Smart Bricks That Know Their Shape | Science News
Scientists have created smart bricks that act like living cells—communicating locally to collectively identify complex shapes like boats, chairs, or guitars without a central controller. Inspired by biological systems, these self-organizing blocks can even detect and replace missing pieces, proving robustness in real-world tests with up to 197 physical units. The breakthrough paves the way for adaptive educational toys and future self-assembling robots that build themselves from simple parts.
