- 0:00So today I have a question for you: Which marriage covenant
- 0:04are you standing in? The first covenant
- 0:08marriage was brokered by Moses at Mount Sinai
- 0:13through the giving of the Ten Commandments, the giving of
- 0:17the law. The second or new marriage
- 0:21covenant was brokered by Jesus Christ
- 0:26at the cross. And by His death,
- 0:30Him taking the penalty for our sins,
- 0:33we could step into a New Covenant, a new marriage covenant
- 0:38where we are betrothed to Christ.
- 0:44This is a day to do a heart check. Have you gradually
- 0:48slid over to standing at Mount Sinai and Is
- 0:52Moses now your head, or are you standing
- 0:55at Mount Zion with Jesus as your head,
- 1:00as your betrothed? Listen in as we unpack this today.
- 1:05Welcome to the One Year Audio Bible Podcast.

- 3:54Naphtalites, clan by clan. Persons enrolled: 45,400.
- 4:00This is the enrollment of the Israelites.
- 4:06601,730. Hashem spoke to Moses, saying, Among these shall the land
- 4:10be apportioned as shares according to
- 4:14the listed names. With larger groups increase the share,
- 4:18with smaller groups reduce the share. Each is to be assigned
- 4:22its share according to its enrollment. The land,
- 4:25moreover, is to be apportioned by lot. And the allotment shall be
- 4:30made according to the listings of their ancestral tribes.
- 4:35Each portion shall be assigned by lot, whether for larger
- 4:39or smaller groups. This is the enrollment of the Levi'im by their clans:
- 4:43of Gershon, the clan of the Gershonites; of Kehath, the clan
- 4:47of the Kohathites; of Merari, the clan of the Merarites.
- 4:51These are the clans of Levi: the clan of the Libnites; the
- 4:55clan of the Sheverites; the clan of the Mahlites; the clan of the Mushites; the
- 4:58clan of the Korahites; He had begot Amram.
- 5:03The name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, daughter of Levi, who was
- 5:07born to Levi in Egypt. She bore to Amram Aaron
- 5:11and Moses and their sister Miriam. To Aaron
- 5:15were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
- 5:19Nadab and Abihu died when they offered alien fire before
- 5:23Hashem. Their enrollment of 23,000 comprised
- 5:27all males from a month ago. They were not part of the regular
- 5:31enrollment of the Israelites, since no share was assigned to them among
- 5:36the Israelites. These are the persons enrolled
- 5:40by Moses and Eleazar the Kohen, who registered the Israelites on the steps
- 5:44of Moab at the Jordan near Jericho. Among these
- 5:49there was not one of those enrolled by Moses and Aaron the Kohen when
- 5:53they recorded the Israelites. In the wilderness of
- 5:56Sinai. For Hashem had said of them,
- 6:00they shall die in the wilderness. Not one of them survived
- 6:04except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua
- 6:08son of Nun.
- 6:162 Chronicles 4:1-6, 11.
- 6:21He made an altar of bronze, 20 emote long,
- 6:2520 emote wide, and 10 emote high.
- 6:29He made the Sea of cast metal, 10 emote across from
- 6:32brim to brim, perfectly round. It was 5
- 6:36emote high and its circumference was 30 emote. Beneath were
- 6:41figures of oxen set all around it, of 10 emote.
- 6:44Encircling the Sea, the oxen were in 2 rows,
- 6:48cast in one piece with it. It stood upon 12 oxen:
- 6:523 faced north, 3 faced west,
- 6:553 faced south, and 3 faced east, with the sea resting upon
- 7:00them, and their haunches were all turned inward.
- 7:04It was a tefak thick, and its brim was made like that of
- 7:08a cup, like the petals of a lily. It held 3,000
- 7:12batim. He made 10 bronze lavers for
- 7:16washing. He set 5 on the right and 5 on the left.
- 7:20They would rinse off in them the parts of the burnt offering, but the
- 7:24sea served the Kohanim for washing. He made
- 7:2810 menorahs of gold as prescribed and
- 7:31placed them in the Great Hall, 5 on the right and
- 7:355 on the left. He made 10 tables and placed
- 7:39them in the Great Hall, 5 on the right and 5 on
- 7:43the left. He made 100 gold basins.
- 7:47He built the Court of the Kohanim and the Great Court and doors
- 7:51for the Great Court. He overlaid the doors with bronze.
- 7:56He set the Sea on the right side at the southeast corner.
- 8:00Huram made the pails, the shovels, and the basins.
- 8:06With that, Huram completed the work he had undertaken for King
- 8:09Solomon in the House of Hashem. The 2 columns,
- 8:13the globes, and the 2 capitals on top of the columns,
- 8:17and the 2 pieces of network to cover the 2 globes of the capitals
- 8:20on top of the columns. The 400 pomegranates for
- 8:25the 2 pieces of network, 2 rows of pomegranates for each network,
- 8:29to cover the 2 globes of the capitals on top of the columns.
- 8:33He made the stands and the lavers upon the stands, one sea with
- 8:37the 12 oxen beneath it, the pails, the shovels, and the bowls.
- 8:41And all the vessels made for King Solomon for the House of Hashem by Hiram
- 8:46his master were of burnished bronze.
- 8:51The king had them cast in molds dug out of the earth
- 8:55in the plain of the Jordan between Succoth and Zeredah.
- 8:59Solomon made a very large number of vessels. The weight
- 9:03of the bronze used could not be reckoned. And Solomon made
- 9:07all the furnishings that were in the House of Hashem, the altar of gold,
- 9:10the tables for the bread of display, the menorahs and
- 9:15their lamps to burn as prescribed in front of the inner sanctuary of solid
- 9:18gold, and the petals,
- 9:21lamps, and tongs of purest gold, the snuffers,
- 9:25basins, ladles, and firepans of solid gold,
- 9:29and the entrance to the House. The doors of the innermost
- 9:32part of the House, the Holy of Holies, and the doors of the great hall
- 9:36of the House of Gold. When all
- 9:40the work that King Solomon undertook for the House of Hashem was completed,
- 9:45Solomon brought the things that his father David had consecrated—
- 9:50the silver, the gold, and the utensils— and deposited
- 9:53them in the treasury of the House of Hashem.
- 10:00Then Solomon convoked the elders of Israel, all the heads
- 10:04of the tribes and the ancestral chiefs of the Israelites,
- 10:08in Jerusalem to bring up the Aron Brit Hashem,
- 10:13the Ark, from the City of David, that is Zion.
- 10:18All the men of Israel assembled before the king at the feast in the 7th
- 10:22month. When all the elders of Israel had come, the Levi'im
- 10:26carried the Aron, the Ark. They brought up the Ark
- 10:30of the Tent of Meeting and all the holy vessels that were in the tent.
- 10:33The Levite Kohanim brought them up.
- 10:37Meanwhile, King Solomon and the whole community of Israel,
- 10:41who had gathered to him before the Ark, were sacrificing sheep and
- 10:44oxen in such abundance that they could not be numbered.
- 10:49Or counted. The Kohanim brought
- 10:53the Ark to its place in the inner sanctuary of the House,
- 10:57in the Holy of Holies, beneath the wings of the
- 11:01cherubim. For the cherubim had their wings spread out over
- 11:05the place of the Ark so that the cherubim covered the Ark and its poles
- 11:09from above. The poles projected beyond the
- 11:12Ark, and the ends of the poles were visible from the
- 11:16front of the inner sanctuary but they could not be seen from the outside,
- 11:20and there they remain to this day.
- 11:24There was nothing inside the Ark but the 2 tablets that
- 11:28Moses placed there at Horeb when Hashem made
- 11:31the covenant with the Israelites after their departure from
- 11:35Egypt. When the Kohanim came out of the
- 11:39sanctuary, all the Kohanim present had sanctified themselves
- 11:43without keeping to the set divisions All the Levite
- 11:47singers— Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, their sons
- 11:51and their brothers dressed in fine linen, holding cymbals,
- 11:54harps, and lyres— were standing to the east of the altar,
- 11:59and with them were 120 Kohanim who blew trumpets.
- 12:03The trumpeters and the singers joined in unison to praise and extol
- 12:07Hashem, and as the sound of the trumpets,
- 12:10cymbals, and other musical instruments and the praise of Hashem— for
- 12:15He is good, where His steadfast love is eternal grew
- 12:19louder, the house, the house of Hashem,
- 12:22was filled with a cloud. The Kohanim
- 12:26could not stay and perform the service because
- 12:30of the cloud, for the glory of Hashem filled
- 12:34the house of Hashem.
- 12:40Then Solomon declared, Hashem has chosen to
- 12:43abide in a thick cloud. I have built for you a stately
- 12:47house and a place where you may dwell forever. Then as
- 12:51the whole congregation of Israel stood, the king turned
- 12:56and blessed the whole congregation of Israel. He said,
- 12:59Blessed is the God of Israel who made a promise to my
- 13:02father David and fulfilled it, where he said,
- 13:06From the time I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I never
- 13:11chose a city from among all the tribes of Israel to build a house
- 13:14where my name might abide. Nor did I choose anyone to
- 13:17be the leader of My people Israel. But then I chose Jerusalem
- 13:22for My name to abide there, and I chose David to
- 13:26rule My people Israel. Now my father David
- 13:29has wanted to build a house for the name of the
- 13:33God of Israel. But Hashem said to my father David, As for
- 13:37you wanting to build a house for My name, you do well to want
- 13:40that. However, you shall not build the house. Your son,
- 13:44the issue of your loins, he shall build the House for My Name.
- 13:48Now Hashem has fulfilled the promise that He made.
- 13:53I have succeeded my father David and have ascended the
- 13:57throne of Israel as Hashem promised. I have built the
- 14:01House for the Name of God of Israel, and there I
- 14:04have set the Ark containing the Covenant that Hashem made
- 14:09with the Israelites.
- 14:18Romans 7:1-13.
- 14:26Know you not, brethren— for I Paul speak to them that know
- 14:30the law— how that the law has dominion over a man as
- 14:34long as he lives? For the woman which has a
- 14:39husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he
- 14:43lives. But if the husband be dead, she is
- 14:46loosed from the law of her husband.
- 14:50So then if, while her husband lives, she be married
- 14:54to another man, she shall be called an adulteress.
- 14:58But if her husband be dead, she is free from that law.
- 15:03So that she is no adulteress, though she be married to
- 15:07another man. Wherefore, my brethren, you also
- 15:11have become dead to the Law by
- 15:15the body of Christ, that you should be married to
- 15:18another, even to Him who was raised
- 15:22from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto
- 15:26God. For when we were in the flesh,
- 15:30the motions of sins which were by the Law did work
- 15:34in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
- 15:38But now we are delivered from the Law, that being dead
- 15:42wherein we were held, that we should serve in newness of spirit,
- 15:47and not in the oldness of the letter.
- 15:51What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? God forbid!
- 15:55No, I had not known sin, but by the
- 15:58Law: for I had not known lust, except the Law had said,
- 16:02Thou shalt not covet. But sin,
- 16:06taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me
- 16:09all manner of concupiscence: for without the Law sin
- 16:14was dead. For I was alive without
- 16:17the Law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I
- 16:21died. And the commandment, which was ordained to life,
- 16:25I found to be unto death. For sin,
- 16:28taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me,
- 16:32and by it slew me. Wherefore the law is
- 16:35holy, and the commandment holy, and just,
- 16:38and good. Was then that which is good made death
- 16:42unto me? God forbid! But sin,
- 16:45that it might appear sin working death in me, that by
- 16:49which is good, that sin by the commandment might become exceedingly
- 16:54sinful.
- 16:58Psalm 17:1-15.
- 17:02Hear the right, O Lord, attend unto my cry, give ear
- 17:06unto my prayer that goes not out of feigned lips.
- 17:10Let my sentence come forth from your presence, let your
- 17:14eyes behold the things that are equal. You have proved my heart,
- 17:18You have visited me in the night. You have tried me and shall find
- 17:22nothing. I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
- 17:27Concerning the works of men, by the word of the lips, I have
- 17:30kept me from the paths of the destroyer. Hold up
- 17:35my goings in Your paths, that my footsteps slip not.
- 17:39I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God. Incline Your
- 17:43ear unto me and hear my speech. Show Your marvelous lovingkindness,
- 17:48O You that save by Your right hand them which put their
- 17:51trust in You from those that rise up against them. Keep me
- 17:56as the apple of Your eye, hide me under the shadow of
- 18:00Your wings from the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies
- 18:04who compass me about. They are enclosed in their
- 18:08own fat, with their mouth they speak proudly. They have
- 18:12now compassed us in our steps. They have set their
- 18:15eyes bowing down to the earth, like as a
- 18:19lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking
- 18:23in secret places. Arise, O Lord, disappoint him,
- 18:27cast him down. Deliver my soul from the wicked,
- 18:30which is your sword, from men which are your hand,
- 18:34O Lord, from men of the world which have their portion in this
- 18:38life. And whose belly you fill with your hidden treasure.
- 18:41They are full of children and leave the rest of their substance to
- 18:45their babies. As for me, I will behold
- 18:49your face in righteousness.
- 18:52I shall be satisfied when I awake with
- 18:57your likeness. Proverbs 19:22-23.
- 19:03The desire of a man is his kindness, and a poor man
- 19:06is better than a liar. The fear of the Lord tends
- 19:10to life, and he that has it shall abide satisfied.
- 19:14He shall not be visited with evil.
- 19:19I want to speak to you today from our reading from Romans chapter 7.
- 19:25And Paul opens up this chapter with an illustration
- 19:29about marriage, and he talks about if a woman has
- 19:33a husband, she is bound by the law or
- 19:36the Torah, to her husband so long as he lives.
- 19:40But if the husband is dead, then she is loosed from this law of her
- 19:44husband. And then while her husband lives, she be married to another
- 19:48man, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband be
- 19:52dead, she is free from that law, so that she is no longer
- 19:55an adulteress, though she be married to another man.
- 20:00Now there is something very deep and profound about this that I really want to
- 20:04unpack with you. The question I want to ask you is,
- 20:08which marriage covenant are you standing in in
- 20:12your faith walk? So one
- 20:16of the marriage covenants that we'll unpack is the one
- 20:20that was given at Mount Sinai through Moses.
- 20:25When Moses received the Ten Commandments and he brought them down
- 20:29to the people and he read them to the people and he said, will you
- 20:32obey these commands? The people said,
- 20:36yes, we will, and in effect, that was the—
- 20:40like the bride saying, I do. Now,
- 20:43how do we know that this was a marriage covenant that the God of Israel
- 20:47was inviting these people into? Well, in Jeremiah
- 20:52chapter 31, verse 31 and 32,
- 20:55there's a direct comparison to a marriage covenant
- 20:59there. Where it says, behold, the days
- 21:03are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant
- 21:06with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not according
- 21:10to the covenant that I made with their fathers in
- 21:14the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of
- 21:18the land of Egypt, my covenant which
- 21:21they broke, though I was a husband to
- 21:26them. Says the Lord. Well, how did the children of Israel break
- 21:31the covenant? Well, recall when Moses came down from the mountain,
- 21:34they had built a golden calf and they were worshiping it.
- 21:38This was, in the eyes of God,
- 21:41spiritual adultery. They immediately
- 21:45broke the marriage covenant. So it was a marriage covenant,
- 21:49and the broker of that marriage covenant was Moses.
- 21:54And it was like a marriage
- 21:58unto Moses, a marriage to the law. I promise
- 22:03to obey and to keep and to follow the
- 22:06law. And the people couldn't do it. Their hearts
- 22:10were made of stone like the stone tablets,
- 22:14and they weren't able to, to keep it.
- 22:18So now there's another marriage covenant.
- 22:21And what we just read in Romans chapter 7 gives
- 22:25us an illustration of it. It talks about, well, as long as the husband
- 22:29is alive, she's not permitted to marry somebody else.
- 22:33But if that husband, that first husband, dies, then she's loosed,
- 22:38she's released, she's free to remarry.
- 22:41So when Jesus died on the cross,
- 22:47then the members of God's household, His people,
- 22:51were free to step into a new marriage,
- 22:56a New Covenant marriage.
- 23:00And that New Covenant marriage was unto Jesus Himself,
- 23:06not to Moses, not to the law, but to Jesus.
- 23:11And so when a person repents and
- 23:15they turn from their sin and they confess their sin and they turn
- 23:18to Christ, they are basically now betrothed
- 23:22to Him. And so the question I ask,
- 23:27sometimes what happens is people fall
- 23:31in love with the Old Testament or with the Torah,
- 23:35with the Sabbath, with the feasts, And it's
- 23:39not intentional or purposeful. It just sort of happens over time.
- 23:44People who are involved in the Hebrew Roots Movement,
- 23:48they tend to drift away from Jesus, from that
- 23:53marriage covenant that we have with Jesus. And they tend to go
- 23:57back to Mount Sinai and under Moses,
- 24:00and I'm gonna follow the law. I'm going to keep kosher,
- 24:04and I'm not gonna eat any unclean food, and I'm gonna keep the Sabbath and
- 24:07keep the feasts. And slowly over
- 24:11time, there's a tendency to drift away from the
- 24:15true husband, the second covenant, the new covenant with
- 24:20Jesus as your husband, as your betrothed. And instead,
- 24:24now you're going back to Mount Sinai and Moses is your
- 24:27head. And you're simply trying to obey the law and
- 24:31perform and do works and earn your
- 24:35way to heaven through good works. Through performance.
- 24:39So the question I ask you today is, what marriage covenant
- 24:43are you standing in? Are you married to
- 24:47Christ? Are you trying to be married
- 24:51to Mr. Law, to Moses, the broker of the law,
- 24:55the Torah? We are called to walk
- 24:59in the New Covenant, the new marriage. Covenant in
- 25:04Christ and let His Holy Spirit who
- 25:08dwells within us lead us and guide us day by day.
- 25:13Don't go back to Mount Sinai.
- 25:16Don't go back into the works and the performance mode because
- 25:21our flesh is weak and we are not
- 25:26able to keep the law apart from Christ.
- 25:30We want to be married and walk in the marriage covenant,
- 25:34the new one, the one with Christ,
- 25:38not the one that was brokered at Mount Sinai through
- 25:41Moses. Have a blessed day and we'll see you tomorrow.
