- 0:11Hello friends. Sean here.
- 0:14Friday's the day. Well done.
- 0:16The end of the week is upon us once again.
- 0:19Hooray Hooray Hooray for me and for you and for all of those who
- 0:23like Friday's and if you have got exams coming up next week,
- 0:27then well, Friday man, seems like such a happy thing but well
- 0:31done to you and all the best with all the pressure of your
- 0:35challenges that are coming up next week.
- 0:38And for the rest of us, we will tiptoe quietly and do our best
- 0:42to serve the needs of those who have got really, really
- 0:45challenging days ahead. And we friends are covering some
- 0:50territory. It must be exactly 90 weeks ago
- 0:54that you and I started reading through Psalms every Friday, and
- 0:58here we are reaching Psalm 90. This is the beginning of the 4th
- 1:02Book of the Psalms. We have finished the first
- 1:05three, and now we continue with this one.
- 1:09A prayer for Moses or a prayer of Moses, the man of God.
- 1:14How fantastic. So friends, on this Friday, let
- 1:17us put down whatever is bouncing around the side of us, and for
- 1:21the next 17 verses, let U.S. Open our hearts and our minds.
- 1:31To the God of the universe who speaks to us in the words of
- 1:36Psalm 90 Lord, through all the generations you have been our
- 1:46home. Before the mountains were born,
- 1:49before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from
- 1:53beginning to end, you are God. You turn people back to dust,
- 2:00saying return to dust, you mortals.
- 2:05For you, 1000 years are as a passing day, as brief as a few
- 2:11night hours. You sweep people away like
- 2:15dreams that disappear. They are like grass that springs
- 2:19up in the morning. In the morning it blooms and
- 2:23flourishes, but by evening it is dry and withered.
- 2:28We wither beneath your anger. We are overwhelmed by your fury.
- 2:34You spread out our sins before you, our secret sins, and you
- 2:39see them all. We live our lives beneath your
- 2:43wrath, ending our years with a groan. 70 years are given to us,
- 2:50Some even lived to 80. But even the best years are
- 2:54filled with pain and trouble. Soon they disappear and we fly
- 2:59away. Who can comprehend the power of
- 3:03your anger? Your wrath is as awesome as the
- 3:07fear you deserve. Teach us to realize the brevity
- 3:11of life so that we may grow in wisdom.
- 3:16Oh Lord, come back to us. How long will you delay?
- 3:21Take pity on your servants. Satisfy us each morning with
- 3:25your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our
- 3:31lives. Give us gladness in proportion
- 3:35to our former misery. Replace the evil years with
- 3:39good. Let us, your servants, see you
- 3:43work again. Let our children see your glory.
- 3:48And may the Lord our God show us His approval.
- 4:00And make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts
- 4:06successful, Father. You bring it all back into
- 4:10perspective. Our lives, like withering grass,
- 4:15come and go, and what feels so impossibly important and full
- 4:21and long is but a few hours to you.
- 4:25A few nighttime hours, the Psalmist says.
- 4:30Draw us to your eternal truth, our eternal identity, so that
- 4:36it's not this passing exhale of our life, but it's the eternity
- 4:43beyond that. Lived as your children in your
- 4:47presence that may take precedence.
- 4:51Shape our perspective to mirror that eternal truth.
- 4:58You are our God forever and we your children.
- 5:04We love you, our Father and we thank you for Your love and Your
- 5:07forgiveness of us in Jesus name. Amen.
