- 0:17Speaker 1: Everett Palmer join us on the radio right now. We're
- 0:20Speaker 1: going to talk about an event that's coming up next Tuesday,
- 0:23Speaker 1: and there's an opportunity for you to be involved in
- 0:25Speaker 1: this event. It's the showing of a documentary called 24
- 0:28Speaker 1: Hours on 8th Street. And first of all, you guys
- 0:32Speaker 1: were at the State Theater for like eight different showings
- 0:34Speaker 1: that were all sold out. I'm excited for this event
- 0:37Speaker 1: that's coming up on Tuesday at the University of Sioux Falls.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Great working with the State Theater, but we've pivoted to
- 0:43Speaker 2: having our next public event show and to be at
- 0:45Speaker 2: the University of Sioux Falls. So Tuesday, September 22nd, 530
- 0:51Speaker 2: doors open, six o'clock, the show begins and starts. It's
- 0:54Speaker 2: our biggest venue to date. The state theater was 155 seats,
- 0:59Speaker 2: and we sold out of that eight times. That's awesome. Yeah,
- 1:03Speaker 2: we're not expecting that at all. We're very grateful to
- 1:05Speaker 2: see the public kind of buy-in. But from there, we're like, okay,
- 1:08Speaker 2: let's partner with the University of Sioux Falls. And so
- 1:11Speaker 2: that's going to be our next one on Tuesday. Very nice.
- 1:13Speaker 1: That's this coming Tuesday. 5.30 is when the doors open.
- 1:16Speaker 1: The documentary begins at 6 p.m. And if you'd like
- 1:19Speaker 1: to get tickets, you can get those right now. I'm
- 1:21Speaker 1: going to throw a link to make it easy to find.
- 1:23Speaker 1: You can find them at facebook.com slash 24 hours on
- 1:27Speaker 1: 8th Street. And again, I'm going to throw a link
- 1:29Speaker 1: on our pages to make it really, really easy to find.
- 1:31Speaker 1: So how did you get involved in this, Everett?
- 1:33Speaker 2: Well, really, it's that classic Sioux Falls story of first
- 1:38Speaker 2: showing up to those 8 a.m. networking meetings, and you
- 1:41Speaker 2: meet people, and you get plugged in, and so... Rudy
- 1:44Speaker 2: came up with this idea and he was looking for
- 1:47Speaker 2: a film crew. He's not a part of the media world.
- 1:49Speaker 2: And it just so happened that we collided at a
- 1:52Speaker 2: networking meeting. It was called bridging humanity. And he heard
- 1:56Speaker 2: me talking about doing video and he was like, well,
- 1:58Speaker 2: I got an idea for you. And it happened to
- 2:01Speaker 2: be the 24 hours on a street idea. And so
- 2:04Speaker 2: we kind of paid homage to keeping the name that way,
- 2:07Speaker 2: even though it's expanded to a much larger project, but,
- 2:11Speaker 2: He was like, I need somebody to actually stay the
- 2:14Speaker 2: full 24 hours with your camera following me around. And
- 2:17Speaker 2: I love that kind of stuff. And so it was
- 2:19Speaker 2: a great mashup from the beginning. But yeah, I didn't
- 2:21Speaker 2: know Rudy before the beginning of last year. And now
- 2:24Speaker 2: we talk to each other almost on a daily basis.
- 2:26Speaker 2: So it's been a really cool journey.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I love this. And the event that's coming up on Tuesday,
- 2:30Speaker 1: you'll learn a whole lot more by watching this documentary.
- 2:33Speaker 1: But this is not just something they're doing just to,
- 2:36Speaker 1: you know, part of it is to get a little
- 2:38Speaker 1: more exposure and for people to understand what's going on.
- 2:40Speaker 1: But there's a lot of good that's coming from this.
- 2:42Speaker 1: There's an opportunity for people to give and contribute and
- 2:45Speaker 1: hopefully help as well. And that, I think, is the
- 2:48Speaker 1: magic of this entire thing is people actually helping people.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, really, you know, he set out some guidelines
- 2:54Speaker 2: of what he wanted this film to be. And the
- 2:56Speaker 2: rest of the story just unraveled and told itself. But
- 2:59Speaker 2: he didn't want fingers pointing because when you have that
- 3:02Speaker 2: kind of happen, people just pointed at the next person
- 3:05Speaker 2: down the line, and you really don't accomplish anything. And
- 3:07Speaker 2: then also, whenever you talk about homelessness, it's a lot
- 3:09Speaker 2: of doom and gloom and people kind of just shut
- 3:12Speaker 2: down is just such a heavy kind of crisis topic.
- 3:15Speaker 2: And so With the film, we didn't want people to
- 3:17Speaker 2: leave the room feeling that way. We wanted them to
- 3:20Speaker 2: feel empowered of, like, you yourself can make a difference. Like,
- 3:23Speaker 2: if we can get together and use art to tell
- 3:27Speaker 2: a documentary, then, you know, it's whatever you want to
- 3:30Speaker 2: get plugged in, you can find a way to get
- 3:32Speaker 2: plugged in. But, yeah, with the USF showing, we chose
- 3:35Speaker 2: to partner with St. Francis House because they're actually, in springtime,
- 3:39Speaker 2: they're building a healing home campus right here in Sioux Falls. Nice.
- 3:43Speaker 2: But that's a $ 10 million project, and they've accomplished getting
- 3:47Speaker 2: $ 1 million out of the $ 10 million. But we were like, okay,
- 3:50Speaker 2: let's partner with St. Francis House for our biggest show.
- 3:52Speaker 2: And because they're really, in a current moment, they're doing
- 3:56Speaker 2: a lot of good. And we want to just help
- 3:58Speaker 2: get them across the finish line with that big project
- 4:00Speaker 2: that will help the whole community. I love that.
- 4:02Speaker 1: And again, the event that's coming up on Tuesday at
- 4:05Speaker 1: the University of Sioux Falls. How much space is there?
- 4:08Speaker 1: Once again, how many people can get squeezed into that facility?
- 4:11Speaker 2: It's a big upgrade from the state theater. It's 800 seats.
- 4:14Speaker 2: The University of Sioux Falls will hold some of those
- 4:16Speaker 2: for their students and staff, but that leaves several other
- 4:19Speaker 2: seats still available for people to get plugged in. And
- 4:22Speaker 2: so if you go to our Facebook page, you'll see
- 4:24Speaker 2: how to buy tickets. I'm sure you can show up
- 4:27Speaker 2: the day of and still squeeze in if you need
- 4:29Speaker 2: to as well.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I love that. So if you'd like to go, all
- 4:31Speaker 1: of the details are right on their Facebook page, facebook.com
- 4:35Speaker 1: slash 24 Hours on 8th Street. And like I said,
- 4:38Speaker 1: I'll throw a link to that as well. Everett, thank
- 4:40Speaker 1: you for what you're doing and thank you for taking
- 4:41Speaker 1: the time to chat with me about it. Of course.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Really appreciate you giving me the call.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Absolutely. Again, 24 Hours on 8th Street is the name
- 4:48Speaker 1: of the film. It's a documentary filmed here in Sioux Falls.
- 4:51Speaker 1: It's a wonderful mission. A bunch of great people with
- 4:53Speaker 1: just very kind hearts doing a really good thing. So
- 4:57Speaker 1: you can help by going with your spouse, with your girlfriend,
- 5:01Speaker 1: with your boyfriend, whoever. Go on a date. Bring somebody with.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Bring somebody else that can also help. And show up
- 5:06Speaker 1: on Tuesday. Get all the details right now about the event.
