Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: And I was just speaking with someone who was visiting
- 0:02Speaker 1: here from from England and they were actually visiting the
- 0:07Speaker 1: Empire State Building.
- 0:08Speaker 2: When this occurred. And I want you to hear from her.
- 0:12Speaker 1: In one moment, she says that there was actually a
- 0:14Speaker 1: proposal going on while this climb to the top was happening.
- 0:19Speaker 1: And I want to bring her in now. Julie, tell
- 0:22Speaker 1: me what was going on at the Empire State Building
- 0:24Speaker 1: when you were visiting.
- 0:26Speaker 3: We were right up the top and I could see
- 0:29Speaker 3: two people open the gates of the mesh, the mesh gate.
- 0:34Speaker 3: They opened the gate and they went up up to
- 0:37Speaker 3: the top. So somebody said, oh, are you allowed at
- 0:40Speaker 3: the top, and he said this commuity guard said that no,
- 0:44Speaker 3: nobody's allowed at the top. But because i'd seen them
- 0:48Speaker 3: go out, I just assumed that they were allowed up there.
- 0:52Speaker 1: So And were they wearing masks at the time, No, No,
- 0:55Speaker 1: they were wearing no, okay. And after they went up,
- 0:58Speaker 1: did you see the security guard chain after them.
- 1:00Speaker 3: No, No, because he didn't know they've gonea he didn't know. No,
- 1:04Speaker 3: nobody knew they went.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Out, okay.
- 1:06Speaker 1: And you said this at your second day in New York,
- 1:08Speaker 1: you were celebrating.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Your husband's birthday.
- 1:11Speaker 1: When did you realize that they had gone to the top.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Well, when we come out and we could see everything
- 1:17Speaker 3: corn it off. Plus when we realized that they hadn't
- 1:20Speaker 3: there was somebody. They've gone up the top and I
- 1:22Speaker 3: haven't seen them go.
- 1:24Speaker 2: What do you think about all of this?
- 1:27Speaker 3: Well, people are saying he's proposed him, but I don't think.
- 1:30Speaker 3: You know, it's a very risky thing to do.
- 1:33Speaker 2: And when did they evacuate you?
- 1:36Speaker 3: They didn't we come out to selves.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Okay, So as this was going on, the no one
- 1:40Speaker 1: from the Empire State Building told you to leave.
- 1:42Speaker 3: No, no, because only then the police came and they
- 1:45Speaker 3: were corning and everything off.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Okay, And Julie tell us your name again.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Jumie Morris, and you're visiting from South Wales.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Yes, okay, thank you so much.
- 1:52Speaker 1: What an interesting time to be visiting here in New
- 1:55Speaker 1: York City.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Thank you so much for your time.
- 1:57Speaker 1: And I want to draw your guys attention back to
- 1:59Speaker 1: the front of the Empire State Building. You can see
- 2:02Speaker 1: the ambulance stores are open. I don't know if they're
- 2:05Speaker 1: getting ready to do something, but everyone here is keeping
- 2:08Speaker 1: a close eye as we.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Wait for these two people.
- 2:12Speaker 1: To come down out of the Empire State Building. Lots
- 2:15Speaker 1: of police here, lots of emergency vehicles. They've closed off
- 2:18Speaker 1: the sidewalk right in front of the Empire State Building,
- 2:21Speaker 1: and you heard her say they went past security. The
- 2:25Speaker 1: security guard told them no one is allowed up there.
- 2:28Speaker 1: So we're waiting to learn more about how this happens.
- 2:31Speaker 2: We've reached out to the Empire State Building.
- 2:33Speaker 1: For comment and we're waiting to hear back.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I'll send it back to you guys for now.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Is sure is the person you interviewed, Julie still there?
- 2:41Speaker 4: I'm curious. I had a question for her if she is.
- 2:45Speaker 1: She is here, but she is doing another interview now
- 2:48Speaker 1: because her account was very captivating.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Yes, she seems like she saw firsthand. When she's done,
- 2:54Speaker 2: all right.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Very popular among the crowds because she saw something a
- 2:58Speaker 1: lot of people didn't see.
- 2:59Speaker 5: Yeah, talk back in with you in a bit. I
- 3:01Speaker 5: want to come back to John Cleary quickly. John, I'm
- 3:04Speaker 5: not sure if you were able to hear Lisa's live
- 3:07Speaker 5: report and the witness who just wighed in on seeing
- 3:10Speaker 5: these two climbers bypass security asking are we able to
- 3:15Speaker 5: go up here? And the security guard says no, she says,
- 3:18Speaker 5: they climbed through a hatch. From what we heard from
- 3:21Speaker 5: you earlier, though, it sounded like there were multiple layers
- 3:24Speaker 5: of security that they were somehow able to breach.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Is that correct.
- 3:28Speaker 6: I would think so, because that hatch is locked most
- 3:32Speaker 6: of the time. We need to get the building guys
- 3:35Speaker 6: to come up with keys.
- 3:36Speaker 2: And is there a reason it would be unlocked?
- 3:39Speaker 5: Sorry to interrupt, I'm just curious. Is there a reason
- 3:41Speaker 5: that they would leave it unlocked.
- 3:43Speaker 6: I can't see a reason unless somebody was doing work
- 3:46Speaker 6: up there. No, I don't see a reason for that
- 3:50Speaker 6: it should have been locked. Wow.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Well, yeah, you know, we were just seeing that the police.
- 3:56Speaker 4: It looks like they had met up with these folks.
- 3:59Speaker 4: I'm just wondering how long it's going to take them
- 4:01Speaker 4: to come down, because it seems like they just need
- 4:03Speaker 4: to hit the elevator and then come down.
- 4:05Speaker 5: Yeah, but I'm sure they have a lot of questions,
- 4:07Speaker 5: I guess. I'm guessing we're not sure whether they'll do
- 4:10Speaker 5: that there or if they'll take them down to the precinct.
- 4:12Speaker 5: We also saw the ambulance because, as we had been
- 4:15Speaker 5: discussing with Glenn earlier, that radiation is strong they were
- 4:18Speaker 5: up there for thirty six minutes roughly in the heat
- 4:22Speaker 5: and breathing in and absorbing all that radiation. I'm sure
- 4:26Speaker 5: that a medical evaluation will be in order. But again,
- 4:30Speaker 5: two people in custody after climbing the Empire State Building
- 4:33Speaker 5: starting around noon today raising a flag at the very
- 4:37Speaker 5: top of this radio and TV transmission tower, the very
- 4:41Speaker 5: tippy top of the antenna. As you can see Jim
- 4:44Speaker 5: Smith flying there to show you just how far up
- 4:47Speaker 5: in the air that is. They were able, somehow miraculously
- 4:50Speaker 5: to stay up there for about thirty minutes before climbing down,
- 4:54Speaker 5: met by NYPD officers, but.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Not before they had a proposal.
- 4:59Speaker 5: So apparently they are now engaged and they are also
- 5:02Speaker 5: in custody and they.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Get to go to jail.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Yes they did that.
- 5:05Speaker 4: No, but you know, when we were taking a close
- 5:07Speaker 4: up of the top of the spire, I think with
- 5:09Speaker 4: them not there, it's so clear how then that ladder was,
- 5:13Speaker 4: I mean, just like little wires to get to the
- 5:15Speaker 4: very top, and they were hanging out up there for
- 5:17Speaker 4: a long time, waving that flag around and again, the
- 5:20Speaker 4: flag saying when the power of love beats the love
- 5:23Speaker 4: of power, the world knows peace and then coming down
- 5:26Speaker 4: and proposing and doing the whole social media thing, which
- 5:30Speaker 4: just ridiculous.
- 5:31Speaker 5: I think when we first started this coverage, at least
- 5:34Speaker 5: I assumed that this may have been some sort of
- 5:36Speaker 5: an activist y. I don't think that I had any
- 5:40Speaker 5: idea that this would be a proposal.
- 5:43Speaker 2: John, while we have you just one more time.
- 5:45Speaker 5: I know you've climbed to the.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Top of this tower.
- 5:48Speaker 5: You are professionally trained to do so. But that very
- 5:51Speaker 5: tippy top of the antenna, even though you have the harnesses,
- 5:55Speaker 5: how difficult is that to get to the very top
- 5:59Speaker 5: with someone not wearing any sort of security gear. Can
- 6:02Speaker 5: you imagine how they would navigate all of those prongs.
- 6:07Speaker 6: My palms would be pretty sweaty. Yeah, with no safety gear.
- 6:13Speaker 6: It's a pretty strenuous climb right there, because it's just
- 6:17Speaker 6: a free climb. You're out in the open, there's wind,
- 6:21Speaker 6: there's you know, the weather. Like you said before, it
- 6:27Speaker 6: could be hot. You know that metal gets hot. That's
- 6:29Speaker 6: what they were wearing cloves. I didn't really see what
- 6:31Speaker 6: they were wearing, but yeah, it's a strenuous climb. That
- 6:36Speaker 6: last couple of feet up there. I think they're out
- 6:40Speaker 6: of their minds,
