Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 0:10defending biblical Christianity.
- 0:13No topic off limits.
- 0:16And now, here's your host, David Fierazzo.
- 0:19Hey, family and friends, as I was going to say, family and Christ, but I guess that's
- 0:24absolutely accurate.
- 0:25God bless you.
- 0:26Thank you for tuning in.
- 0:27Thanks for sharing the podcast.
- 0:28It's growing.
- 0:29Thanks to you.
- 0:30Can't wait to talk to our guest today, Brent Hansen.
- 0:34He's an author nationally syndicated radio host advocate for healing children through
- 0:39Kier International.
- 0:40We'll talk a bit about that.
- 0:42He's got a radio show that airs on more than 200 stations.
- 0:45His podcast with his friend and radio producer Sherry Lynn is called the Brent and Sherry
- 0:51Oddcast.
- 0:52It's been downloaded more than 10 million times.
- 0:54He leverages his radio platform to advance the healing work of Kier, which provides life-changing
- 1:01surgeries for children with treatable conditions.
- 1:04And his first book was unoffendable, prompted a national discussion actually on the idea
- 1:09of forgiveness and our culture's embrace of self-righteous anger.
- 1:14A second book, Blessed are the misfits, followed by the truth about us, the very good news
- 1:20about how very bad we are.
- 1:22He also wrote the men we need, and he's got to follow up coming out.
- 1:25But we're going to talk about his recent book today.
- 1:27It's called Life is Hard, God is Good, Let's Dance.
- 1:32Now, I went to his website and his actual bio on his website, which it says actual bio,
- 1:37it starts off like this.
- 1:40Brent Hansen has no idea what he's doing.
- 1:42He keeps showing up, and people keep asking him to do stuff, and he keeps saying yes.
- 1:48Well, Brent, thank you for saying yes to coming on World View Matters.
- 1:51God bless you.
- 1:52I'm honored.
- 1:53Good to see you too.
- 1:54Thank you.
- 1:55Yeah.
- 1:56Yeah.
- 1:57Thanks for your time.
- 1:58Let's start with Cure International.
- 1:59That's something you've been involved with for many years, and that's obviously one of
- 2:02the drivers of your current odd cast.
- 2:05So tell us about Cure.
- 2:07Well, it's like, it's going to sound like hype.
- 2:10This is one of the few things that's not hype.
- 2:12It's like the most beautiful thing in the world.
- 2:15Like it's healing kids, giving them top notch surgeries for free.
- 2:20These are kids, and Cure has eight different surgical hospitals.
- 2:25They're full on permanent hospitals, and the kids, they treat, they can be 15 years old
- 2:31having neglected club foot or something like they could have been treated if they were
- 2:35in a, because they would have been, or they, or they had earned contractures from when
- 2:39they were three years old, and now they're 12, and they can't walk.
- 2:42Like it's all done in the name of Jesus.
- 2:46Last year, Cure did 18,000 surgeries.
- 2:49There's nothing else like this in the world.
- 2:51Wow.
- 2:52And it's both healing and proclaiming the Kingdom of God, which is exactly what Jesus actually
- 2:58told us to do.
- 2:59So like, it's so profound, it's hard to get your head around, but I help people, like
- 3:05if you visit one of these hospitals, it's like, it's like an embassy in the Kingdom of
- 3:10Heaven.
- 3:11It's, it's doing Jesus stuff.
- 3:14It's like an advanced trailer of Heaven to see these kids be able to play and they've
- 3:19been told their curse to their entire lives because they have a disability, and we, we
- 3:23fix it.
- 3:24We tell them about Jesus, share the gospel, follow up with them, get them, get them involved
- 3:28in churches.
- 3:29It's, it's absolutely phenomenal.
- 3:31And it's just cure.org if anybody wants to look it up.
- 3:34Mm-hmm.
- 3:35Yeah, we'll talk about that because you've got some stories in your book about that.
- 3:37I like to part about when you were in Afghanistan.
- 3:40I saw the video just amazing.
- 3:43I mean, you're right.
- 3:44It's the hands and feet of Christ, doing God's work.
- 3:47I did want to ask you, though, because I've been in radio for quite a few years and now
- 3:50in, you know, podcast video and all that stuff.
- 3:54But how did you connect with Sherry Lynn?
- 3:56I want a partner that has a book called, I want to punch you in the face, but I love
- 4:01Jesus.
- 4:02So about five years ago, that book came up.
- 4:04How did you connect with Sherry Lynn?
- 4:05What a great chemistry you guys have.
- 4:07Well, see you applied for my producer job when I was at this one radio network.
- 4:12I could she didn't think I was serious about hiring her, but I just she's obviously got
- 4:18so much personality.
- 4:19It's crazy.
- 4:20Yes.
- 4:21Yes.
- 4:22She's theologically astute.
- 4:23She's hilarious.
- 4:24Like, we, we, it's such a great chemistry because we're both focused the same direction
- 4:30in terms of the kingdom.
- 4:33And we have similar sisters humor, this major overlap.
- 4:38Like, you know, she's a black lady from Pittsburgh.
- 4:41I'm a white nerdy guy from small towns in Illinois and there's so much, there's so much
- 4:47there.
- 4:48So it has, we've been working together for 11 years now.
- 4:51It's wonderful.
- 4:52Awesome.
- 4:53Were you based now, Brent?
- 4:55Jupiter Florida is where I am.
- 4:57And for people on video that are looking at my books here, this is actually like a curtain.
- 5:02It blocks the trash cans.
- 5:06So if you're wondering why it looks like there's folds in the books, that's why it was like.
- 5:12Thanks.
- 5:13Thanks for pointing that out.
- 5:14Pay no attention to the garbage behind the curtain.
- 5:16Don't worry.
- 5:17Yeah.
- 5:18Yeah.
- 5:19So Brent, let's talk about the followership conference.
- 5:23This is coming up in a few weeks and it sounds wonderful.
- 5:27I've heard you talk about it in the videos and on the podcast.
- 5:31And man, it's just the simplicity of following Jesus.
- 5:35Why are you putting this on and just tell us more about it?
- 5:38Yeah, a couple of things.
- 5:39Number one, it's just like an idea.
- 5:40Like somebody ought to do this instead of a leadership conference.
- 5:44How to actually follow Jesus.
- 5:46How to actually do it would be really refreshing.
- 5:48So I've talked about that for a while.
- 5:50And at one point, we're just like, well, we got to do it.
- 5:53We may never do it again because it's tough when you've got a radio schedule and you're
- 5:57doing other stuff to make time for, but we're having it at Grace College in Indiana, beautiful
- 6:03little town in mid April, just Friday night through Sunday morning thing.
- 6:08But literally, we're just talking about how to actually love our enemies, how to actually
- 6:12forgive people, how to live a less anxious life, all sermon on the mouse stuff.
- 6:18But part of it too is like Dallas Willard, he wrote, why don't churches just put a sign
- 6:24out front that say, you know, Tuesday night to 630,
- 6:27we will teach you how to follow Jesus.
- 6:30I mean, it's called making disciples, right?
- 6:32Like this is supposed to be central, but for some reason, if it's not, so we just thought
- 6:38to be good and maybe spark some thoughts for people about how to actually do this that
- 6:43they can share with people when they go home and how to, it's, it's discipling.
- 6:48It's going to be really fun.
- 6:50We have some musical guests, Mike Dunney from 10th Avenue North, it's going to be their
- 6:53Josh even, the afters and Lance Ford and author and I'm going to speak and share you
- 6:58in and we're going to have a blast, but yeah, that's what, that's what that is.
- 7:03So I hear this is not going to be very polished.
- 7:06No way.
- 7:07It can't be.
- 7:08Nothing.
- 7:09Just polished is my bookshelf here.
- 7:14But we love that like, we, Sherry and I both have been through church stuff where it's
- 7:21big, there's a big show sometimes and I'm not interested.
- 7:25I'm just, I'm done with it.
- 7:26That's one of the, one of the reasons I'm so drawn to cures is like, with all the goofy
- 7:31stuff in the Christian subculture in this country, being able to actually see Jesus stuff
- 7:38is so refreshing.
- 7:39Yeah.
- 7:40They could just, yeah.
- 7:44So we love that.
- 7:45Yeah.
- 7:46Well, my goodness, a follower ship, I, yeah, you hear a lot about leadership, but what
- 7:50are we supposed to be doing following Jesus, not putting someone up on a pedestal?
- 7:54And by the way, worship attainment, I think is what you're referring to.
- 7:57The entertainment you see at some churches that's, I'm thinking that's the world.
- 8:01That's not Christian.
- 8:02We're not supposed to conform to the world, but a lot of churches are trying to do this
- 8:05to try to attract people.
- 8:07Go ahead and comment on that, Brent, we will dive into the book.
- 8:10Well, you can do the same thing with, with waving the Bible around too.
- 8:14I know this from my own background, I don't like, I grew up in a fundamentalist background.
- 8:18My dad was a preacher and my goodness, our home was just trauma, just traumatic.
- 8:24We were terrified.
- 8:25We went through a couple of divorces and whatnot.
- 8:29But anybody can look good on stage.
- 8:32Yes.
- 8:33And then you'll, you'll say, oh, what a great man of God.
- 8:35He's really preaching the, but you have no clue if you don't know this person like.
- 8:42So I went through that growing up where it's like, well, your dad's such an amazing man
- 8:45of God.
- 8:46You're terrified to go home.
- 8:48You have no idea.
- 8:49Anybody can put up a, a front.
- 8:54But seeing people healed in the name of Jesus, seeing people pray, being in the operating
- 9:00room and seeing people gather around a child who's been nothing but rejected her entire
- 9:04life or his entire life, like, that I needed to see that.
- 9:09Like it's so obviously the kingdom of God, it's just so refreshing.
- 9:13And it just feels like we're on missions, you know?
- 9:16I love it.
- 9:17Well, let's start with the book, a life is hard, God is good, let's dance.
- 9:24I really love your focus on just showing people the simplicity about the Bible and talking
- 9:31about dealing with anxiety in everyday life and having the joy of the Lord that's in
- 9:36our lives and joy is not dependent on circumstances.
- 9:39It says, learn to replace anxiety with gratitude.
- 9:42It's one of the things you'll get in the book, Brent, talk a little bit about that because
- 9:46there's a, yes, you've said in interviews and on your podcast, there's a lot of people
- 9:50dealing with anxiety because there's so much going on in the world today.
- 9:53Oh, totally.
- 9:54And I feel like even with some of the believers, I talk to, when I talk about anxiety or
- 9:58Jesus saying, we should be like the birds of the air, the lilies of the field and not
- 10:02worry.
- 10:03They're like, yeah, that's, that's great.
- 10:05But realistically, I mean, we are going to be worried about like, well, Jesus is very
- 10:09realistic, I think.
- 10:12His way of life that he's giving us is a less anxious life.
- 10:16And on that gratitude thing, it's interesting because modern psychology will tell you gratitude
- 10:21chases out anxiety.
- 10:23True.
- 10:24The grateful thing we're supposed to be giving thanks all the time.
- 10:28Why?
- 10:29Because God needs to be thanked.
- 10:30No, he doesn't need anything.
- 10:33It's good for us.
- 10:35That's why he's telling us to do this.
- 10:39In Paul, he's writing to the Philippians, he says, be anxious for nothing.
- 10:45And then he says two things.
- 10:46He says, tell God what you need and be thankful for all he has done.
- 10:52And then the piece of God will guard your heart, a piece that exceeds our experience will
- 10:56guard your heart and Christ Jesus like, so literally tell him what you need.
- 11:02And then thank him for what he's done.
- 11:04And then you're going to experience this piece that exists regardless of circumstances.
- 11:10And that is such a deep thing.
- 11:12You can still go through grief.
- 11:14You still go through troubles in life.
- 11:15You can still hurt.
- 11:17But even then you've got this deep sense of well-being that doesn't change.
- 11:23So this is a way of life and gratitude in particular is absolutely instrumental in
- 11:27becoming a sort of person who's less anxious.
- 11:30It's something cultivating an attitude of gratitude.
- 11:34And we are to be thankful in all circumstances, right?
- 11:37That's what the Bible says.
- 11:38I think that's 1st Thessalonians 5.
- 11:39But if the Bible says it, we're supposed to be able to do it.
- 11:42God doesn't tell us anything.
- 11:44Give us any instructions.
- 11:45We are not able to carry out, right?
- 11:47Right.
- 11:48And again, it's so wonderful.
- 11:50He's not just telling us that randomly.
- 11:52In fact, like when the Bible says praise the Lord over and over and over and over and
- 11:56over, give him your prayer, like a billion times, right?
- 12:00That's not because God is on an ego trip and he needs us to tell him how great he is.
- 12:06He doesn't need that.
- 12:08He needs nothing.
- 12:10It's for us.
- 12:12We know that when you remind yourself of God's goodness and you praise and you extol his,
- 12:18like his, his characteristics, who he is, remind yourself of how good he is.
- 12:23Rehers be thankful for what he's done.
- 12:25So you can remember how good he is.
- 12:27You remind yourself of this stuff.
- 12:29It's good for us to do that.
- 12:32So David, even in Psalms, he's writing and he'll say, why are you so downcast all my soul?
- 12:36He's talking to his own soul and he says, put your trust in God or he says, I will praise the Lord.
- 12:43Like he knows I can get down, I can get depressed, I can go through stuff.
- 12:47I can be anxious.
- 12:49What do I need to do?
- 12:50He talks to his own soul and he talks about I'm going to actually praise God.
- 12:54Yes.
- 12:55Thank him for what he's done.
- 12:56I'm going to change, like I'm going to speak to my mindset and remind myself of what's true.
- 13:01What's your admirable, like this is stuff we can actually do.
- 13:05And it turns out we're told this stuff because it's remarkably healthy.
- 13:10It's a healthy way to flourish as a human being instead of anxiety.
- 13:14Take his toll on your body.
- 13:16I mean, this is this is a genius way to live.
- 13:18Amen.
- 13:19Bless the Lord, oh my soul.
- 13:20And all that is within me, bless his holy name.
- 13:23He's speaking to his own soul.
- 13:25I love that.
- 13:26Right.
- 13:27Like we can do that too.
- 13:28It's actually a marker of mental health because you're able to say, okay, I'm feeling anxious
- 13:33or I'm feeling down, that's that's part of being human.
- 13:37Let me remind myself of what's true.
- 13:40Let me remind myself that Jesus actually said, Jesus said this, like God took the form
- 13:45of flesh and thought it was important to tell us in this world, you will have troubles.
- 13:52Not wink wink, nod nod, you have be of good cheer because I've overcome the world.
- 13:59You're going to have trouble.
- 14:02This ends really well.
- 14:04You're going to wonder why this stuff is happening.
- 14:08You may not have all the answers, but be of good cheer.
- 14:11I know how this ends and it ends really well.
- 14:14Praise God.
- 14:15Yes.
- 14:16Yeah, I mean, this is this is a strong hand we're playing with and we forget that with
- 14:19just as nervous as everybody else, we shouldn't.
- 14:21Yeah, right before that in John 1633, he started that by saying, in me, you will have peace
- 14:28in this world.
- 14:29Here's the contrast.
- 14:30Yeah.
- 14:31You will have trouble.
- 14:32Anyway, we've got to take a brief pause with Brant Hansen.
- 14:34The book is called Life is Hard.
- 14:36God is Good.
- 14:37Let's dance.
- 14:38We'll be right back.
- 14:39Today's show is brought to you by Harbinger's Daily.
- 14:42The world news biblically understood, stay informed at Harbinger's Daily.com.
- 14:49Hey, friends, if you're listening via audio podcast, apples, Spotify, please leave us a
- 15:01five star review.
- 15:02I've heard it helps the show rise in the rankings.
- 15:05And also, we would love to get new sponsors on board.
- 15:08If you're interested in sponsoring world view matters, just contact our producer, Mike
- 15:11Menzel.
- 15:12Go to the website worldviewmatters.tv Brant Hansen is our guest today.
- 15:18I love this book.
- 15:19It's an easy read.
- 15:21It flows and it just he really has a way of drawing you in writing with language even
- 15:27I can understand you know, because some theological books are pretty pretty deep.
- 15:30This one is really, really a great way to just dive into some of these topics and really
- 15:35understand the simplicity of concepts in the Bible.
- 15:38Brant, I wanted to get back to anxiety for a minute.
- 15:41Page 31, I just want to quote you and let you elaborate a little bit more.
- 15:45It says, but what if you could know that even the worst case scenarios happen and you'd
- 15:51somehow be okay?
- 15:53That sounds crazy, but I'm convinced this is exactly what Jesus is telling us.
- 15:58There is seriously nothing in this world that can ultimately endanger you.
- 16:03If we could just grasp that no matter what happens, who's still in control, right?
- 16:09Right.
- 16:10Imagine the fun you could have when you're not racked by anxiety, imagine how compelling
- 16:17that would be.
- 16:18But I think that's what Jesus is saying, like when he takes his friends, his disciples
- 16:22out on the boats to cross the lake and they hit that storm and he's sleeping on a cushion
- 16:29and it says, everybody else is freaking out.
- 16:31Like we are going to die.
- 16:33That was his idea to go out on the boat.
- 16:36That's right.
- 16:37He knew he's not surprised by the storm.
- 16:39He knew that it was a test.
- 16:42They failed, but he's like, where's your faith?
- 16:46What happened to it?
- 16:47Like even if the ship goes down, you're going to be okay.
- 16:53I mean, this is again, the strong hand, I keep saying it, but that we're playing with.
- 16:59We're genuinely at a very deep ultimate level.
- 17:01We're safe in this world because of him.
- 17:05So that changes everything.
- 17:08I like it too.
- 17:09We get really anxious about stuff.
- 17:11We don't know where it's headed.
- 17:12We worry about next week or next year, what could happen to these elections and this
- 17:15other thing.
- 17:16It's like our lives.
- 17:20I think we're going to look back and we're actually going to think, you know what?
- 17:26I didn't have to actually be anxious about anything.
- 17:30I could have trusted God the entire way, regardless of the chaos in the world.
- 17:36He's ultimately good.
- 17:39And I could have had that attitude.
- 17:42I like it too.
- 17:43Like the NCAA tournament.
- 17:44My favorite team was playing at the time of this recording, playing in a couple hours.
- 17:50The University of Illinois.
- 17:51I'm an alum.
- 17:52They played a game years ago in the tournament.
- 17:54It was the elite eight and they were down 15, I think, with three minutes left to Arizona.
- 18:00And I told my son, he was a boy at the time.
- 18:03I'm like, it's over.
- 18:04He might as well shut it off.
- 18:05I had a terrible attitude, but I was so frustrated.
- 18:08Like, we've lost.
- 18:10Life said, would you let him have fun?
- 18:12Like, you don't have to be Mr. negative and like, okay, but it's all right.
- 18:15It's over.
- 18:16They came back and won that game and went to the final four.
- 18:19Wow.
- 18:20That's come back.
- 18:21Okay.
- 18:22I've watched that on YouTube.
- 18:25I don't get anxious when I watch that game on YouTube.
- 18:29Why?
- 18:30Because I know how it ends.
- 18:35If you know how it ends and it ends well, the refs can make terrible calls.
- 18:40We can miss easy shots.
- 18:43Frustrating things can happen, but your higher outlook is different.
- 18:49We're playing from a really strong hand where death itself has been disarmed for us.
- 18:57Right.
- 18:58He's got.
- 18:59Yes.
- 19:00Right.
- 19:01So this does have to change.
- 19:02But we have to keep reminding ourselves of these true things.
- 19:03That's why like memorizing scripture, committing things to heart that you can draw on, to
- 19:08replace anxious thoughts.
- 19:10Like you can, you're going to be anxious sometimes.
- 19:13It's human, but you become less and less anxious.
- 19:15You become a different sort of person because you're like marinating in the truth all the
- 19:19time.
- 19:20But change is everything.
- 19:23You had me at the very beginning of what you just shared and amen to all of that brand
- 19:28because you had me at we're going to, I have a feeling some of us are going to look back
- 19:31someday and realize we didn't have to worry.
- 19:36And I like some of these points in the material I got for the book.
- 19:40It says, honestly, how can people possibly be joyful in a world this messed up?
- 19:46And then the interesting question, do you have to be naive or unaware of what's going
- 19:51on in the world?
- 19:53Does that mean we can't keep, we can't watch the news.
- 19:56We can't, maybe we can't go outside, they can't watch, and you know what I mean?
- 20:01You've got to shelter yourself.
- 20:02How can we do that?
- 20:03So share your thoughts on that because I know you go much deeper on this.
- 20:07Well we do pay too much attention to cursory events.
- 20:10We do that and that does change us.
- 20:14What we pay attention to does matter, but it's not about ignorance.
- 20:17We can watch the news.
- 20:18We can't be aware.
- 20:20And if you're not, if you're not anxious in this culture or angry, people think you're
- 20:24nuts.
- 20:25Like you just don't understand what's really going on.
- 20:27Did you see what they're doing in these schools?
- 20:29Did you see about this ward?
- 20:30Did you know about this?
- 20:31What about this other thing?
- 20:32Do you know that they, yeah, I do.
- 20:37But it's not about knowing less that makes you at peace.
- 20:41It's about knowing more.
- 20:43It's like I can be aware of all this, but I'm also aware that the kingdom of God is never
- 20:48going to be shaken and that he is good.
- 20:51And when Jesus was telling people they don't need to worry.
- 20:53He was talking to a group of people that didn't have antibiotics.
- 20:56They had food insecurity, they had wars.
- 20:58They were occupied by the Romans.
- 20:59There was, you know, they had plenty of reasons.
- 21:02They could list to be existentially worried every day.
- 21:07And he's telling them they don't need to be worried that God loves them.
- 21:13That this all ends well.
- 21:15Like, so it's not a matter of ignorance.
- 21:17It's actually a matter of knowing more.
- 21:20And that's, that's a very different.
- 21:22But I will say if you're camped out in front of news 24, 7, you're going to be an anxious
- 21:28angry person.
- 21:30Yes.
- 21:31But if you're, if you're dialed into the kingdom, then you're going to become less anxious
- 21:36and you're going to be more apt to love your enemies.
- 21:40I think there's a way to be balanced in that to be informed and yet not overwhelmed.
- 21:44Like Romans 12, 21, do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good brand.
- 21:50We're running out of time and I want to get to talk to us about outsourcing your worries.
- 21:55I found that to be a fascinating concept.
- 21:58Yeah.
- 21:59Well, I did too.
- 22:00It was, um, it was on accident.
- 22:01This guy Tim Ferris, who's like a productivity guru, time management.
- 22:06I listened to part of his book.
- 22:12And he said he was worried about someone.
- 22:14They say he outsources everything to his, his assistant in India has her schedule as appointments
- 22:19and everything to save money and time.
- 22:22And he said he was really worried one day.
- 22:24So he has a joke said to her, Hey, could you worry about this today for me?
- 22:30And she was like, okay, sure.
- 22:34But he said the weird thing is it worked.
- 22:36It's like just knowing somebody was worried about it for me.
- 22:41Freed me up to think about other stuff and I was like, that's off.
- 22:44It is awesome.
- 22:45It's genius.
- 22:46It's genius.
- 22:47That's exactly what we're told to do in scripture to cast our cares on him.
- 22:52Yes.
- 22:53And he can actually do something about it.
- 22:56So it's like next week, tomorrow, next year, not my department.
- 23:02God, can you do something about this because I can't, but you're there.
- 23:07You are already there and you can do something about it.
- 23:10So I'm going to cast my cares on him.
- 23:11I'm going to tell him what I need.
- 23:12Then I'm going to thank him for all he's done.
- 23:15And then the base of God will guard my heart and Christ Jesus.
- 23:18Like that is a fact.
- 23:20We're told to outsource our worries to God.
- 23:23And one other one other fast of that.
- 23:26I actually picture it.
- 23:27The picture I have in my mind when I think about this.
- 23:30I feel like I'm at like a workplace.
- 23:33I got a desk.
- 23:34Somebody brings an envelope to me and says, here's your mail.
- 23:38And it's actually glowing.
- 23:40It's like a vanilla envelope that's glowing inside.
- 23:43I'll be like, no, that's you need to take that down a hall to the
- 23:48nuclear envelopes department.
- 23:49They can handle this.
- 23:50They're equipped for it.
- 23:51I can't handle that.
- 23:53Like I'm not designed for that.
- 23:56It's not my department.
- 23:57So that when it comes to worries, anxieties, next year, whatever.
- 24:00What do they have to think about that?
- 24:01Like God can handle this.
- 24:03Yes, I'm not made for that.
- 24:05Your department, Lord, please take care of this.
- 24:07I can't and then go about my day and just focus on today.
- 24:11That's brilliant, profound, biblical.
- 24:13Thank you.
- 24:14I got to point out something.
- 24:16I the video of you and Sherry holding the different pictures
- 24:21of people holding the book.
- 24:22The most hilarious one was the guy on his knee proposing to his fiancee.
- 24:27He's holding up your book and it's Photoshopped in and she's just like,
- 24:32and she's looking at your book.
- 24:34I thought that was hilarious, man.
- 24:35That was so creative.
- 24:36What a fun video.
- 24:38So good.
- 24:38Good.
- 24:39I was right.
- 24:40Thanks.
- 24:40Well, I'm never been good at promotion.
- 24:42And so I always make a joke out of it.
- 24:44So we have fun.
- 24:46Did a Photoshop job with some stock photos.
- 24:49I was like, insert the book into these situations and go,
- 24:52Hey, look at these people.
- 24:53They love this book.
- 24:54So yeah, that was the idea.
- 24:55Yeah, that was hilarious.
- 24:57I do want to mention real quick.
- 24:59By the way, I don't have time to get to it,
- 25:01but I really found what you shared on page one, ten, one,
- 25:04eleven, those young women, ESPN, the University of Oklahoma,
- 25:08women's softball team, oh my goodness, the faith and the openness
- 25:14about who they are in Christ and that they don't play for man.
- 25:18They play for God and the focus on Jesus and man,
- 25:21that was really impressive.
- 25:22And I love, by the way, young athletes today like CJ Stroud,
- 25:27Houston, Texan, quarterback and so many others that are,
- 25:30they don't care what people think we need more men of God
- 25:33and women of God like that.
- 25:34Let's just let you comment on that real quick if you'd like.
- 25:37Okay, so if people can look this up on YouTube,
- 25:39look up Oklahoma softball players or something, press conference
- 25:42because the ESPN person asked,
- 25:45how do you keep the joy going when you won three national champ?
- 25:48You never lose.
- 25:49Like how does it?
- 25:50How do you keep the joy and they jump in?
- 25:53It's not just like, I just want to thank God for this game.
- 25:55That'd be fine.
- 25:56But with this depth of understanding.
- 25:59Yeah, back to back one player after the other,
- 26:03like writing the last comments, the last person to talk about
- 26:06the nature of joy that's their winner lose.
- 26:11And that frees you up when you, when you feel like you even lose
- 26:14and still have this sense of well-being,
- 26:16it frees you up to play better because your whole identity
- 26:21doesn't rest on winning.
- 26:23It really was amazing.
- 26:24Very profound and just hear young men and women athletes talk
- 26:28like that was like, thank you, Jesus.
- 26:30There's hope for the future.
- 26:32If he doesn't return in the beauty of it, too,
- 26:35was like the ESPN reporter after a while is probably like,
- 26:38holy cow, what did I just like?
- 26:40I didn't expect this exactly.
- 26:42There's all this logical like reflection.
- 26:44They've sent like very older wiser people,
- 26:47not just like 20-year-olds.
- 26:49Yeah.
- 26:50Hey, Brad, before we let you go real quick,
- 26:51do you know if Toby Mac ever showed up for that concert
- 26:54that you were emceeing or introducing him?
- 26:58I don't know.
- 26:59I presume he did at some point.
- 27:01So I had to go down and check and see if the crowd's still there
- 27:04if he ever showed up.
- 27:05I can relate, man.
- 27:06I can relate because in radio,
- 27:08you know, you get up on stage,
- 27:09you're doing a lot of the intros.
- 27:10And how many times did you like two, three times
- 27:13and he didn't come out three times?
- 27:15I was like, you didn't make me welcome to Toby Mac.
- 27:19And it's not his fault.
- 27:21It was lack of communication from the stage, man.
- 27:23Like, so I literally left and got in my car drove.
- 27:26It was so embarrassing.
- 27:27It was like an introverts ultimate nightmare, but one.
- 27:30Yeah, I was going to say I know how much you love being up
- 27:32on stage in front of thousands of thousands of people.
- 27:34But anyway, hey, brother, I hope we can do this again.
- 27:37Maybe when you, by the way, oh, we didn't get a chance to talk.
- 27:39You got a brand new follow up book, the young men we need.
- 27:43When does that come out?
- 27:44It's out.
- 27:45It just came out.
- 27:46So awesome.
- 27:47Perfect populations or whatever.
- 27:48But yeah, I'd love thoughts on it.
- 27:51Great.
- 27:51We'll do that Lord willing.
- 27:52God bless you, brother.
- 27:53See how to share and Lord willing.
- 27:55We'll talk to you again soon.
- 27:56Expensive.
- 27:57All right, guys, Brant Hansen.com.
- 28:01God just love his writing and great podcast.
- 28:04Check it out.
- 28:04Thank you so much for sharing this show.
- 28:06God bless you.
- 28:07And as always, keep speaking the truth about things that matter.
