- 0:14Speaker 1: This is Kevin Sports Very Daily bringing you my very
- 0:17Speaker 1: very first show of twenty twenty six, and today I'll
- 0:21Speaker 1: be replaying some of the interviews of twenty twenty five
- 0:24Speaker 1: over the next three hours, along with some great music,
- 0:26Speaker 1: So tune in, don't go outside. Is miserable out there.
- 0:37Speaker 1: It's been a great year for sport in the studio,
- 0:40Speaker 1: so let's look back at some of those great times
- 0:43Speaker 1: we've had. So we can't afford to hang about today.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I've got lots to get through, so let's get this
- 0:55Speaker 1: show on the road with a suitable track from a
- 0:58Speaker 1: David Bowie. All the guests that have shared their stories
- 1:02Speaker 1: with me in this studio, you are all heroes, so
- 1:05Speaker 1: we've got to play David Bowie and heroes as all
- 1:22Speaker 1: the heroes that came into the studio in twenty twenty five. Now,
- 1:27Speaker 1: as we recap twenty twenty five, it's a busy sporting
- 1:30Speaker 1: year in the radio folks and studios with myself and
- 1:33Speaker 1: Ad and it's been a job to choose which interviews
- 1:36Speaker 1: to play back. Really, as there were so many took
- 1:40Speaker 1: up the whole show as an hour nearly excuse me,
- 1:43Speaker 1: and I guess once the hate got started talking about
- 1:46Speaker 1: their passionate subject in well, in some cases, to be fair,
- 1:50Speaker 1: it's a job to shut them up, which is a
- 1:52Speaker 1: nice thing. Now, not saying that the ones I chosen
- 1:55Speaker 1: are the best ones or my favorite ones, because that
- 1:57Speaker 1: just wouldn't be fair. There are so many I think
- 2:00Speaker 1: nearly crammed in around. I don't know, there was nearly
- 2:02Speaker 1: thirty interviews I think across the course of the year.
- 2:07Speaker 1: So but if you do, if you want to listen
- 2:10Speaker 1: to them, it's that easy to listen to the to
- 2:12Speaker 1: the whole interview, because I've had to clip these interviews
- 2:15Speaker 1: so that we could get them into three hours and
- 2:18Speaker 1: get annoye interviews in. So you can hear all the
- 2:22Speaker 1: interviews on twenty of twenty twenty five on the radio,
- 2:25Speaker 1: folks on the website. So first up, let's listen back
- 2:28Speaker 1: to Jay Hopkins. She came in and joined myself and
- 2:32Speaker 1: ad This was exactly one week after she jumped out
- 2:36Speaker 1: of her plane with her three sons, Oscar and Milo
- 2:39Speaker 1: and Iva, and she was raising money for breast cancer. Now,
- 2:43Speaker 1: so let's listen back to Jay.
- 2:49Speaker 2: You know you won't remember.
- 2:54Speaker 3: There you go, there's raise a light ten in the morning,
- 2:57Speaker 3: and that was the one before that you had perfect day. Well,
- 3:02Speaker 3: the Folks and Arrows basketball team have left the building
- 3:05Speaker 3: and we've got Jay in.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Good morning, Jay morning.
- 3:09Speaker 5: Ah, I'm very well, thank you. Beautiful day is.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Just a perfect day.
- 3:15Speaker 3: As I just said, yeah, fresh from your charity aeroplane jump.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Yeah we could go today.
- 3:24Speaker 5: We were jumping out of a plane. We also had
- 3:26Speaker 5: a gorgeous stay that day as well. Very lucky.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I mean, that is brilliant. I mean, for those of
- 3:31Speaker 1: you that haven't seen it, check out the video. It's
- 3:34Speaker 1: just it's like vibes are jumping out of the screen
- 3:37Speaker 1: because you just feel the wind in your face when
- 3:39Speaker 1: you're watching, you know the video of it. So without
- 3:43Speaker 1: further ado, it's probably this Jay, if you just runs
- 3:46Speaker 1: through the day. I mean, you all went up there together,
- 3:49Speaker 1: was your big obviously a big excited, a bit nervous.
- 3:51Speaker 1: We were.
- 3:52Speaker 5: I was nervous before that we wouldn't be able to
- 3:54Speaker 5: jump because it's obviously very dependent on the weather. And
- 3:57Speaker 5: we woke up to glorious sunshine. The three boys that
- 4:01Speaker 5: Oscar lives in Folkeston, Milo in London, and Ivor in Somerset,
- 4:05Speaker 5: so they'd all come back down and I just thought, oh, please,
- 4:08Speaker 5: let us be able to do it, and we drove
- 4:10Speaker 5: up to Headcorn and it was gorgeous sunshine the whole
- 4:12Speaker 5: way we got there. Checked in, they wighed us all
- 4:16Speaker 5: to check that we really weighed what we said we would,
- 4:20Speaker 5: you don't want to get that wrong. And then we'd
- 4:23Speaker 5: been given a check in time of ten o'clock. But
- 4:25Speaker 5: they did say we could be waiting around all day
- 4:28Speaker 5: because it's all dependent on who's ready and available when,
- 4:31Speaker 5: and particularly with there being four of us who wanted
- 4:33Speaker 5: to jump out of the same plane, it was quite
- 4:36Speaker 5: dependent on all sorts of other people and what they
- 4:39Speaker 5: were doing. But actually we only sat around for about
- 4:43Speaker 5: two hours, and it was in glorious sunshine watching other
- 4:47Speaker 5: parachutists jump out of the sky and planes and helicopters take.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Off, so it was another wave of planes go up
- 4:56Speaker 1: before you. So they were under the same impression that
- 4:59Speaker 1: they had to, you know, hang around, but they went up.
- 5:02Speaker 1: So the turnover was quite quick.
- 5:03Speaker 5: Yes, some people had been given nine o'clock as an
- 5:05Speaker 5: arrival time. We'd been given ten o'clock as an arrival time,
- 5:08Speaker 5: so they just have people kind of arriving in waves
- 5:10Speaker 5: and get through as many as they can at whatever rate, And.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Did you feel the plane was I know there's four
- 5:16Speaker 1: of you, but was there any other anyway? Was it
- 5:18Speaker 1: just you?
- 5:18Speaker 5: For there was us four and one other person jumping
- 5:22Speaker 5: out of our plane, and then there was also the videographer,
- 5:25Speaker 5: so we were all tandem, so we're all attached to someone,
- 5:29Speaker 5: but there was also a videographer jumping out as well.
- 5:32Speaker 1: That's amazing.
- 5:33Speaker 3: And you know you said you had to have waked
- 5:35Speaker 3: around for two hours before.
- 5:38Speaker 4: How nervous were you? You get?
- 5:40Speaker 3: You know, you're there and you're thinking, you don't know
- 5:42Speaker 3: when you're going to jump, And obviously it's a big
- 5:44Speaker 3: deal jumping out of an aeroplane anyway, but you know,
- 5:47Speaker 3: the longer you wait, so I'd imagine it's the the
- 5:50Speaker 3: nerves and everything all kicking.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Did they or do you know?
- 5:52Speaker 2: We're all so logical.
- 5:54Speaker 5: We were all super excited and really ready for it,
- 5:58Speaker 5: but I kind of feel like we all felt we'd
- 6:00Speaker 5: risk assessed it already. We knew we were going to
- 6:02Speaker 5: be attached to someone. In fact, the guy who was
- 6:05Speaker 5: my tandem instructor had done twenty eight thousand parachutes, so
- 6:12Speaker 5: we felt really confident. Actually, and a lot of people
- 6:15Speaker 5: have said when they've watched that video that in that
- 6:16Speaker 5: little plane where you're going up quite slip steeply and
- 6:20Speaker 5: you're sat on benches pointing backwards in the plane, so
- 6:23Speaker 5: it all feels quite unnatural, to be honest. But we
- 6:26Speaker 5: were all smiling and laughing because we were just dead
- 6:29Speaker 5: excited it was about to happen.
- 6:31Speaker 4: I was going to say that.
- 6:32Speaker 3: I mean, I've not watched the video as well, and
- 6:33Speaker 3: the photos that you had taken, and the thing that
- 6:39Speaker 3: to me is the big smiles on all your faces.
- 6:41Speaker 3: You look really really happy. That didn't look no nervously
- 6:45Speaker 3: is there at all. It just looks like you really
- 6:47Speaker 3: enjoyed it.
- 6:48Speaker 2: We really did. It was so much fun.
- 6:50Speaker 5: It was just it's such a wild thing to be
- 6:52Speaker 5: able to do anyway, and to be able to do
- 6:53Speaker 5: it with all three sons, and for them to do
- 6:56Speaker 5: it with their brothers.
- 6:56Speaker 2: They really enjoyed it.
- 6:58Speaker 4: It's something you were you know, obviously you wouldn't. You
- 7:00Speaker 4: never forget absolutely, and you did it for good calls
- 7:03Speaker 4: as well.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Yes, So how we did the fundraising go which is
- 7:05Speaker 1: probably still open? Is it's still open?
- 7:07Speaker 2: It is still open.
- 7:07Speaker 5: We've raised well over three thousand pounds. I'm super tough.
- 7:12Speaker 5: And do you know, Breast Cancer Now, which is the
- 7:14Speaker 5: charity we've been raising money for, have been so lovely
- 7:18Speaker 5: about it. They sent us a handwritten card from a
- 7:21Speaker 5: girl called Pearl who works at Breast Cancer Now saying,
- 7:24Speaker 5: you know, written with our names and saying well done,
- 7:26Speaker 5: I'm meeting your target and go and enjoy it. Left
- 7:30Speaker 5: us a little voicemail message. They've been They've made us
- 7:32Speaker 5: feel really appreciated, which is a lovely thing.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Actually, that's nice to know that you're appreciated. You know
- 7:39Speaker 3: you're raising the money for that particular charity, and yeah,
- 7:42Speaker 3: I think that's that's great.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I mean, you probably lost all track of time, but
- 7:47Speaker 1: how long does it take from the jumping out the
- 7:50Speaker 1: plane to landing?
- 7:51Speaker 2: You're absolutely right.
- 7:52Speaker 5: If I hadn't been told how long it was going
- 7:53Speaker 5: to take, I would have had no idea that the
- 7:55Speaker 5: first bit the skydive, So that's when you're kind of
- 7:58Speaker 5: horizontal with your arms out in front of you probably
- 8:00Speaker 5: seen it on the telly before. That's about thirty to
- 8:03Speaker 5: forty seconds. We jumped from twelve thousand feet, which is
- 8:07Speaker 5: about two point two miles, so you're really a long
- 8:10Speaker 5: way up. And the weirdest thing about it is what's
- 8:13Speaker 5: happening is you're free falling through the sky. But because
- 8:16Speaker 5: that's such an unusual kind of concept, your brain doesn't
- 8:20Speaker 5: really think that's what's happening. Your brain just think there's
- 8:23Speaker 5: lots of.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Air coming up at you.
- 8:25Speaker 5: So you're falling at one hundred and twenty miles an hour,
- 8:27Speaker 5: but it just feels like you're being blown upwards almost
- 8:30Speaker 5: because there's the so much wind coming up in your face.
- 8:34Speaker 5: You can see on the photographs. There's photos of me
- 8:36Speaker 5: with my cheeks.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I'm trying.
- 8:43Speaker 5: And then suddenly the parachute opens after about thirty to
- 8:47Speaker 5: forty seconds, and it feels like you're going upwards, which
- 8:51Speaker 5: of course you're not.
- 8:51Speaker 2: It's just slowing the quickly.
- 8:54Speaker 4: You'll be catapulted.
- 8:56Speaker 5: It feels like you're going upwards as well, and then
- 8:59Speaker 5: you're from then on you're sort of hanging vertically, so
- 9:02Speaker 5: it's a very different feeling, and the instructor sort of
- 9:05Speaker 5: loosens a few bits and pieces because then you're in
- 9:08Speaker 5: a much more sort of comfortable position and that you
- 9:11Speaker 5: don't need to be strapped quite as hard to them,
- 9:13Speaker 5: so they loosen things and everything feels a little bit
- 9:16Speaker 5: more like normality and reality. But also by then you're
- 9:20Speaker 5: near enough to the ground that it feels like the
- 9:22Speaker 5: ground's coming up towards you, so you can you can
- 9:25Speaker 5: see what's happening. We could see across to London. We
- 9:28Speaker 5: could see it was this beautiful patchwork quilt that we
- 9:31Speaker 5: could see.
- 9:31Speaker 2: It was absolutely wonderful.
- 9:33Speaker 1: There's one absolutely lovely bit in the video where the
- 9:37Speaker 1: camera focused on you and you just said, it's so beautiful.
- 9:41Speaker 5: And you get about five minutes of that stage hanging
- 9:45Speaker 5: from a parachute until the bottom, and they make the
- 9:48Speaker 5: one thing they make you sort of practice in training
- 9:50Speaker 5: in advance is that you can lift your legs up
- 9:53Speaker 5: really high. Because however the tandem instructor decides to land,
- 9:58Speaker 5: whether they decide to land on their feet or they
- 10:00Speaker 5: kind of skid in on their bum which they do
- 10:02Speaker 5: a lot of the time, what they need is not
- 10:04Speaker 5: to have your.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Legs at the way.
- 10:06Speaker 5: Basically, so once you get quite close to the ground,
- 10:08Speaker 5: they make you prove you can do that hanging off
- 10:10Speaker 5: a strap in advance, and then when you get quite
- 10:12Speaker 5: close to the ground, they say, right, legs up now,
- 10:14Speaker 5: and keep those up, keep them up, don't put them
- 10:16Speaker 5: down whatever happens.
- 10:18Speaker 1: And what was your first feeling when you got down,
- 10:20Speaker 1: Apart from amazement? How did you want to go back
- 10:24Speaker 1: up again?
- 10:25Speaker 2: No?
- 10:27Speaker 5: I mean the first thought was are the three boys
- 10:30Speaker 5: all all right enough? Because I jumped before them they
- 10:32Speaker 5: were all behind me. But there was also someone who
- 10:35Speaker 5: was doing that video who was in my face going.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Did you enjoy it?
- 10:39Speaker 5: So I was trying to sort of smile and say
- 10:41Speaker 5: hello and yes to them, but also check that the boys,
- 10:46Speaker 5: which of course they were.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Yeah, when you all jumped out, was it like five
- 10:51Speaker 3: ten seconds after each bad? Did you meet everybody in
- 10:55Speaker 3: We're all four of you in the air at the
- 10:56Speaker 3: same time.
- 10:57Speaker 5: No, so we were we didn't see each other at
- 11:01Speaker 5: the kind of skydive section, and then I could see
- 11:04Speaker 5: them as I was parachuting. I could see them above me,
- 11:08Speaker 5: but quite a long way above me coming in, and
- 11:11Speaker 5: then obviously as we as I came down, they all
- 11:13Speaker 5: sort of started landing around me. But yeah, it was
- 11:18Speaker 5: just the most extraordinary experience.
- 11:20Speaker 2: It really was.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And what about when the after after effects? I mean,
- 11:27Speaker 1: was you buzzing for a day that a it was?
- 11:33Speaker 2: It was huge.
- 11:33Speaker 5: We were all kind of high fiving, just stead excited,
- 11:37Speaker 5: and so what we did actually was jump into the
- 11:40Speaker 5: take off for all the kind of suit that you
- 11:43Speaker 5: have to wear, jumpsuit type thing, and then we were
- 11:46Speaker 5: also starving by this point, so we all went to
- 11:49Speaker 5: a local pub not not too far from Pluckley and
- 11:53Speaker 5: sat down and just kind of post mortemned you know
- 11:56Speaker 5: how we all felt about it all, which was a
- 11:58Speaker 5: really good thing to do, and had huge burgers.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Did the boys enjoy it as much as you did?
- 12:05Speaker 5: Yeah, they all absolutely loved it, and they're super thrilled
- 12:08Speaker 5: that they have done it. I think they are probably
- 12:11Speaker 5: more inclined to do it again in the future. I
- 12:13Speaker 5: kind of feel like I absolutely would if it was,
- 12:16Speaker 5: you know, I needed to do it for charity, or
- 12:18Speaker 5: it was going to.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Save a life.
- 12:18Speaker 5: I suppose it could save my life potentially, then I
- 12:21Speaker 5: would absolutely do it. But I don't think I would
- 12:24Speaker 5: choose to do it again. I'd do something else another time.
- 12:27Speaker 2: But the boys all loved it, Yeah.
- 12:29Speaker 3: I mean when you came in earlier with the boys
- 12:30Speaker 3: as well, I mean you were all really keen to
- 12:33Speaker 3: do it.
- 12:33Speaker 4: So it's nice to hear that you really enjoyed it
- 12:36Speaker 4: as well.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, because you know you sometimes you might think, well, yeah,
- 12:40Speaker 3: i'll do this for charity, and then you've got to
- 12:42Speaker 3: actually do the thing that you're going to do, and
- 12:45Speaker 3: then you don't quite enjoy it. But oh and you
- 12:48Speaker 3: really looked as it did.
- 12:49Speaker 5: When I've run marathons and things before, you know the
- 12:51Speaker 5: amount of training that you have to do, you start
- 12:53Speaker 5: to think, oh goodness, I mean that's much harder to
- 12:56Speaker 5: do that kind of thing than this. This is turn
- 12:58Speaker 5: up and do it your old and smile really but yeah,
- 13:02Speaker 5: it was.
- 13:02Speaker 2: It was absolutely brilliant fun.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Like jeah, there's anything else you want to add before
- 13:06Speaker 1: we go? I think we just want to recap on
- 13:09Speaker 1: your just give in because the page is open. You know,
- 13:12Speaker 1: you've all done the deed, you've been through and have
- 13:16Speaker 1: your emotional side of it, so it's really time to
- 13:20Speaker 1: take a step backwards and see, yeah, they've just giving
- 13:22Speaker 1: is going.
- 13:23Speaker 5: Yeah, well, just a huge thank you to everyone who's
- 13:27Speaker 5: supported us. I'm really really grateful and breast Cancer Now
- 13:31Speaker 5: for being so kind to us, Skydive Headcorn for looking
- 13:34Speaker 5: after us and making sure that we all got down safely.
- 13:37Speaker 5: I think there was one particular moment where I was
- 13:39Speaker 5: on the edge of the door about to go out. Well,
- 13:42Speaker 5: I'm not even on the edge of the door because
- 13:43Speaker 5: you're instructors on the edge of the door, so you're
- 13:45Speaker 5: really out of the plane. And all three boys were
- 13:49Speaker 5: just watching their mother about to fly out at two
- 13:52Speaker 5: and a half miles.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Yeah, And the thing I will say is that I
- 13:55Speaker 1: was looking at the video and if you look closely
- 13:57Speaker 1: on some of the inside, there's like some in in
- 14:00Speaker 1: tape yea, even the drafts coming in. I suppose it was. Yeah,
- 14:03Speaker 1: I thought, my goodness, they don't see that andy thing.
- 14:05Speaker 1: It's all together by blastos.
- 14:07Speaker 5: Well. At one point Bilo said he could feel his
- 14:09Speaker 5: instructor pushing the tape back into place on the side
- 14:12Speaker 5: of the plane. But yeah, it all felt very safe
- 14:16Speaker 5: and it was absolutely wonderful. Big, huge thank you to
- 14:18Speaker 5: everyone who's supported us, including you guys Aiden keV for.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Having us in.
- 14:22Speaker 5: We really appreciate it more and welcome and if anyone
- 14:25Speaker 5: does want to support us there. I think we've got
- 14:29Speaker 5: about another week before the fundraising closes, and the easiest
- 14:33Speaker 5: way to do it is to find me. I'm Jae
- 14:36Speaker 5: Hopkins either on LinkedIn or on Facebook and you'll find
- 14:39Speaker 5: links to our just giving page there.
- 14:43Speaker 1: So there we go. That was the first of a
- 14:44Speaker 1: nine interviews coming up, and what a way to start.
- 14:47Speaker 1: You know. Jay came in, as I said, just a
- 14:50Speaker 1: few days after she'd done the jump, but probably about
- 14:54Speaker 1: a month before she managed to get her boys in
- 14:57Speaker 1: and that was a magnificent morning as well. But we
- 15:00Speaker 1: had to get back in and one of awesome achievements.
- 15:03Speaker 1: How close are that family and what have they done?
- 15:06Speaker 1: You know, they've raised thousands of thousands of pounds for
- 15:08Speaker 1: breast cancer now and also remembering that they had to
- 15:12Speaker 1: fund the skydives themselves, So I mean that is that's
- 15:16Speaker 1: a double whammy, isn't it. You know, there's this well,
- 15:18Speaker 1: what a great morning that was, and it's so nice
- 15:20Speaker 1: to play the first of nine interviews back. So time
- 15:24Speaker 1: for a bit of music now, And there's only one
- 15:26Speaker 1: song we've got to play, really and this is this
- 15:28Speaker 1: one points to Sister's nineteen eighty four and they aptly
- 15:55Speaker 1: named jump that was that was for Jay and the boys.
- 16:04Speaker 1: And I'm looking for the music and I don't think
- 16:06Speaker 1: I'm going to be able to find a track for
- 16:07Speaker 1: every single interview. But this was one of my favorite
- 16:10Speaker 1: groups and it's quite suitable for Jay and the and
- 16:13Speaker 1: the three boys actually Oscar, Milo and Either because they
- 16:17Speaker 1: were hanging on at the end of the line, at
- 16:33Speaker 1: the end of the line. By the end of the
- 16:45Speaker 1: line there, that's what they would do. They were all
- 16:47Speaker 1: dangling on the end of the line. And what a
- 16:50Speaker 1: great start to the show. Okay, let's move on now now.
- 16:53Speaker 1: In this clip, local football physio Ellis Stewart tells us
- 16:57Speaker 1: how in her first season at Whitstable Town she was
- 17:00Speaker 1: part of a team for the FA was final at
- 17:02Speaker 1: Wembley and what a fantastic day she had. And she'd
- 17:06Speaker 1: only been there a season and there she goes trotting
- 17:08Speaker 1: out at Wembley. So, without further ado, sit back and
- 17:12Speaker 1: listen to Ellis.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Wembley and how you know your journey to the stadium
- 17:16Speaker 3: and yeah, okay.
- 17:18Speaker 6: So we went up on the Saturday.
- 17:20Speaker 7: So we went up the day before, which was very nice,
- 17:22Speaker 7: sort of spread it out a little bit and we
- 17:24Speaker 7: actually had a tour of Wembley the day before.
- 17:26Speaker 4: I did see these.
- 17:27Speaker 7: Yeah, you got to go in the changing room sort
- 17:30Speaker 7: of bring all the kit in, which was quite nice.
- 17:31Speaker 6: So we didn't have to rush to it in the morning.
- 17:34Speaker 6: But yeah, no, so we got there on Saturday.
- 17:35Speaker 7: We had a tour round, we all walked out together,
- 17:38Speaker 7: we took loads of pictures, sort of soaked up a
- 17:40Speaker 7: little bit before sort of Sunday, and then Sunday morning.
- 17:43Speaker 7: It was an early start because it was a twelve
- 17:45Speaker 7: to fifteen kickoff.
- 17:46Speaker 4: You tell us about it. I think we left there
- 17:48Speaker 4: just after eight.
- 17:49Speaker 7: Yeah, so I think we I think we actually got
- 17:51Speaker 7: to the stadium at half ten, so it was an
- 17:54Speaker 7: early start for everyone.
- 17:55Speaker 6: We were sort of at breakfast at eight.
- 17:57Speaker 7: Everyone was like fueling themselves, bricking as well as you
- 18:01Speaker 7: can imagine.
- 18:01Speaker 6: Everyone was really.
- 18:02Speaker 7: Talking to each other, but everyone was buzzing at the
- 18:03Speaker 7: same time. And then, yeah, it's strange because you want
- 18:09Speaker 7: to just walk to Wembley because from the hotel you
- 18:10Speaker 7: can just see it. You've got to get in the
- 18:12Speaker 7: bus and drive under Wembley and it's amazing. It's an
- 18:16Speaker 7: experience and I was like, I don't think we're going
- 18:18Speaker 7: to get this again. Touch with a dores once in
- 18:21Speaker 7: a lifetime. And when we got there, we sort of
- 18:24Speaker 7: went in the change room. All of the players tops
- 18:26Speaker 7: are up with their names and they've got their their
- 18:28Speaker 7: sort of plaques with their sponsors and their photos and
- 18:31Speaker 7: messages from families, which was really really nice. And then
- 18:34Speaker 7: it was like, oh my god, like that's going to
- 18:36Speaker 7: see the pitch on game day and there was already
- 18:38Speaker 7: sort of people starting to come in, and it was
- 18:41Speaker 7: like this is this is massive. Like you don't realize
- 18:44Speaker 7: until you walk out on the pitch and you see
- 18:46Speaker 7: that there's people already arrive in that sort of quarter
- 18:48Speaker 7: to eleven. Ye, we've got a long time to wait
- 18:50Speaker 7: until a kickoff, and they're abody there and sort of
- 18:53Speaker 7: getting ready for the warm up. Go out for the
- 18:55Speaker 7: warm up, and there was probably two thousand people already
- 18:58Speaker 7: there for the warm up and it was really really nice.
- 19:00Speaker 7: And I did a little sneaky run over and spoke
- 19:03Speaker 7: to my family and.
- 19:05Speaker 4: That's what it's all about, isn't it.
- 19:07Speaker 7: Yeah, it was just it's a once in lifetime and
- 19:10Speaker 7: I still can't believe that I've sort of had it.
- 19:12Speaker 1: It's amazing stems from you right into football clubs, isn't
- 19:16Speaker 1: it placement?
- 19:18Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 19:18Speaker 1: And Whista Ball replied, So it just shows you that,
- 19:21Speaker 1: you know, you just got to try these things.
- 19:22Speaker 7: You just got to put yourself out there. Yeah, sending
- 19:26Speaker 7: that one emails made my career.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Well.
- 19:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, like you say, you've had the experience
- 19:32Speaker 3: of going to Wembley, which you would probably never have
- 19:35Speaker 3: had if you hadn't.
- 19:36Speaker 7: No, no, exactly that everything happens for a reason, exactly.
- 19:41Speaker 3: There is one thing I would like to ask you
- 19:43Speaker 3: when you get to Wembley. I'm going to see Wembley's.
- 19:46Speaker 3: Normally two teams play at Wembley, but of course on
- 19:49Speaker 3: this particular day there was four teams playing.
- 19:51Speaker 4: How does the changing rooms work?
- 19:53Speaker 7: So there's four change Well, as far as I'm well,
- 19:55Speaker 7: there's four changing rooms so much so.
- 19:57Speaker 3: We didn't know that, Yeah, because I thought, you know,
- 20:01Speaker 3: the fa vas is over, Whitstable and.
- 20:04Speaker 4: Whiteleaf have to get out quick.
- 20:06Speaker 7: Yeah, so there is four changing rooms. So all Jean
- 20:10Speaker 7: Spennymore had changing rooms one and two, and then.
- 20:14Speaker 6: White Leaf had room three and.
- 20:16Speaker 7: We had four, so we technically had like the worst one.
- 20:20Speaker 7: But it was amazing. I thought it was great. I'd
- 20:22Speaker 7: love to have that change room every week.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I saw the pictures inside. You know,
- 20:26Speaker 3: you've got the Whitstable town named him on the floor
- 20:29Speaker 3: and yeah, a bit surreal, isn't it. I mean, you're
- 20:33Speaker 3: non league club, you don't ever expect. You hope to
- 20:35Speaker 3: get to Wembley, but you never expect to get to Wembley.
- 20:39Speaker 3: I mean I've been there for the last six or
- 20:43Speaker 3: seven non league day finals and this was the second
- 20:45Speaker 3: one I commentated on. But I could honestly say the
- 20:49Speaker 3: two sets of supporters for the FA VARs, there were
- 20:52Speaker 3: so many people it was unbelievable.
- 20:54Speaker 4: I mean I looked over and.
- 20:57Speaker 3: One whole section was just red and the other whole
- 21:00Speaker 3: half a section was green and from where where obviously
- 21:03Speaker 3: you could see from the bench we got a little
- 21:05Speaker 3: bit better of you, probably, but I've never seen any thing.
- 21:11Speaker 3: I mean, it just looked amazing, and you both sits
- 21:14Speaker 3: and supporters did their their clubs proud.
- 21:16Speaker 6: Definitely. I think Whitstable must have been empty. I think
- 21:19Speaker 6: everyone who lives in was at Wembley normally.
- 21:23Speaker 3: I mean I think you had like four or five
- 21:25Speaker 3: sections normally one, two, two and a half if you
- 21:31Speaker 3: were lucky.
- 21:32Speaker 7: Really, I think I was speaking to the board the
- 21:35Speaker 7: other day and I think they said they sold nearly
- 21:37Speaker 7: nine thousand tickets in the.
- 21:38Speaker 6: Witsible section, waving them on. It was. It was great
- 21:41Speaker 6: tearing up the crowd.
- 21:42Speaker 1: They went, I'm not actually sure, but one of them
- 21:48Speaker 1: around thought, yeah, I'm.
- 21:52Speaker 6: Not sure who it was.
- 21:53Speaker 7: But by the time we'd sort of all like, once
- 21:55Speaker 7: the final whistle blue, everyone just ran ran towards the vans,
- 21:59Speaker 7: And by the time I got over there, I was thinking,
- 22:01Speaker 7: hang on a minute, you've got your shirt on the
- 22:03Speaker 7: wrong way around.
- 22:03Speaker 6: You know, you're just like, what's going on? It? So
- 22:06Speaker 6: I don't know who started it.
- 22:08Speaker 3: The first half, I mean went down. They scored a
- 22:12Speaker 3: really really good goal fifteen to twenty minutes in.
- 22:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I thought it was going to be a long game. Yeah,
- 22:17Speaker 6: when that went in. But it was a long game
- 22:18Speaker 6: for the right reasons.
- 22:21Speaker 4: The player that came off at halftime.
- 22:22Speaker 6: What was his name, O'Connor Wilkins.
- 22:25Speaker 4: No, he was there.
- 22:27Speaker 3: If he hadn't been substituted or injured, I think he
- 22:29Speaker 3: might have. He was going around. He was like a
- 22:31Speaker 3: headless chickety, but he likes to run. He was like running.
- 22:34Speaker 3: He was making some challenges share we say that were
- 22:37Speaker 3: exactly Yeah, a bit borderliner, and I think you know,
- 22:42Speaker 3: if you're listening, yeah, I'm sure you're a good player.
- 22:45Speaker 3: But I think on the day him coming off at
- 22:48Speaker 3: halftime changed everything with the whole game change.
- 22:52Speaker 6: The whole game change.
- 22:53Speaker 4: I think we were just talking off. I mean the
- 22:55Speaker 4: gentleman that came on, Yeah thirty two, did you say that?
- 22:59Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 22:59Speaker 6: I think he's the one thirty two and.
- 23:01Speaker 4: He was running like a teenager. And that's a big pitch.
- 23:04Speaker 7: He didn't leave anything like, he left everything on the pitch.
- 23:08Speaker 7: Nothing was in the changing room.
- 23:10Speaker 4: I mean, that's what we got to do, isn't it we.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Now you were back in Whistable and I'm sure I
- 23:18Speaker 1: saw you on the top of the bus he did, indeed,
- 23:23Speaker 1: So I mean runners through there? Did you start from
- 23:26Speaker 1: from the football club? Yes? That was that was a
- 23:28Speaker 1: really Yeah.
- 23:30Speaker 7: That was an amazing day as well. So it was
- 23:33Speaker 7: quite an early start. I think we were on the
- 23:35Speaker 7: bus by about half nine, and it started in the
- 23:38Speaker 7: harbor and then we got some oysters in the harbor.
- 23:42Speaker 1: I saw some some of the local oyster suppliers were
- 23:46Speaker 1: at the ground, weren't they.
- 23:47Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, yeah, So we had some oysters in the harbor,
- 23:50Speaker 7: got on the bus and then we drove from the
- 23:54Speaker 7: Harbor all the way down sort of like the main
- 23:56Speaker 7: high Street back to the club with the with the
- 23:58Speaker 7: cup hanging off the side of the bus.
- 24:00Speaker 6: It was making me a little bit nervous. It was
- 24:03Speaker 6: just amazing.
- 24:03Speaker 1: And so what was it turn out like then?
- 24:05Speaker 6: So many people, so many people.
- 24:07Speaker 7: Yeah, there was people hanging out their bedroom windows, people
- 24:09Speaker 7: standing on the roofs. It was it was crazy, really
- 24:12Speaker 7: really crazy. But you'd think at ten o'clock in the
- 24:14Speaker 7: morning and it wasn't.
- 24:16Speaker 6: It wasn't the.
- 24:16Speaker 7: Greatest door weather. It was dry, but it was really overcast.
- 24:19Speaker 7: I thought, did you really quiet?
- 24:22Speaker 1: Did you think then would turn out for you?
- 24:25Speaker 6: I didn't expect that many people.
- 24:26Speaker 7: I thought there'll be people there because everyone sort of
- 24:29Speaker 7: everyone came to Wembley, so everyone wants to celebrate going on.
- 24:32Speaker 4: Now which to turn? Will you be there next season.
- 24:35Speaker 7: Or yeah you are staying? I can't leave after this?
- 24:39Speaker 6: Can I be somebody? Wembley are coming for me in England?
- 24:47Speaker 4: Oh brilliant.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Once again, As kept said earlier, thank you very much
- 24:50Speaker 3: for coming in the stuff this morning.
- 24:52Speaker 6: Thank you for having me.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Oh no, it's been a pleasure.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Great journey. Really is Elis from the London Landmarks from
- 24:58Speaker 1: the London Marathon last year. You know you've been coming
- 25:01Speaker 1: into the show and it's been a great journey and
- 25:04Speaker 1: we'd love to have you on board. So they go.
- 25:07Speaker 1: That was Elis stir with myself and aid as she
- 25:10Speaker 1: came in one Saturday morning, excuse me, and oh she's
- 25:14Speaker 1: so excited about the whole journey. I mean, I don't
- 25:18Speaker 1: blame her. It's only a second or third season in football,
- 25:23Speaker 1: I think as a physia and they've got got to
- 25:26Speaker 1: Wembley and then not many people can say that, can they.
- 25:29Speaker 1: So there's only one song we can play for Elis,
- 25:31Speaker 1: and this is it.
- 25:36Speaker 8: Time after time, I've done my sentences.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Sad go on, I bet you saying, oh the world.
- 26:04Speaker 1: You always think it's going to finish like that, doesn't it?
- 26:05Speaker 1: But it shuts off early. Anyway, that was for Elis.
- 26:08Speaker 1: What a great morning that was when she came in
- 26:10Speaker 1: and she came in with all the medals and badges
- 26:12Speaker 1: and it was great. And it was a double whammy
- 26:15Speaker 1: really because a co presenter, Adrian was up there as well.
- 26:20Speaker 1: He was commentating were for Sea Size of us Radio,
- 26:24Speaker 1: which is the local football radio that's LinkedIn with Folks
- 26:26Speaker 1: and in Victor. But they do get to they just
- 26:29Speaker 1: got to write and ask for permission to go to
- 26:31Speaker 1: other grounds. And they've done the non league finals for
- 26:35Speaker 1: a few years now, so they both had so much.
- 26:39Speaker 1: They were both so excited. It's really really a great morning. Okay.
- 26:43Speaker 1: So and now our next person in the hot seat, Well,
- 26:46Speaker 1: that was Zoey Zoey Monde from the Folks and Rowing
- 26:50Speaker 1: Club who told us about a new format when it
- 26:53Speaker 1: comes to rowing. It's called a beach sprint regatta. So
- 26:57Speaker 1: let's sit back and listen to this one.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Made in Folkston one five point nine Radio, Fogston.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Well from nineteen eighty eight Circle in the Sand from
- 27:13Speaker 1: Belinda Carlisle. And I don't think the rowers will be
- 27:16Speaker 1: doing circles in the sand, from what I can gather,
- 27:18Speaker 1: They'll be running in straight lines. But we've got joined
- 27:23Speaker 1: once again by Zoey. Hello, Zoe, thanks for coming in right.
- 27:26Speaker 1: So we're going to talk about beach sprint regatta. Now,
- 27:30Speaker 1: I watch all the social media's and I do pick
- 27:33Speaker 1: up on stuff, and this immediately my radar went up.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Beach sprint regatta. Now I learned a little bit about it.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I did talk about it on the show a few
- 27:42Speaker 1: weeks ago, and but basically, would you like to tell
- 27:47Speaker 1: me what is beach sprint regatta?
- 27:50Speaker 9: Oh, it's exciting new formats which is going to be
- 27:53Speaker 9: at the LA Olympics. So it's all that British roaring
- 27:57Speaker 9: and getting excited about.
- 27:59Speaker 2: So basic.
- 28:00Speaker 9: You start on the sand and you run ideally fifty
- 28:04Speaker 9: meters straight down to the water.
- 28:06Speaker 8: You jump into your boat, you row.
- 28:08Speaker 9: Out, and you then slalom around a course straight out
- 28:13Speaker 9: two hundred and fifty meters. Then you row straight back,
- 28:16Speaker 9: you jump out of your boat, you run up the
- 28:18Speaker 9: beach and hits a buzzer.
- 28:20Speaker 1: And that's it. Okay, there's a buzzer there. Yeah, start
- 28:22Speaker 1: and finish. So it's timed and so you've got one
- 28:27Speaker 1: person competing against another. So for let's say the first
- 28:33Speaker 1: race is just two boats in the water, and does
- 28:36Speaker 1: it get any bigger than that? Does he get three,
- 28:39Speaker 1: four or five boats in the water.
- 28:41Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 28:41Speaker 9: For the regat that we're doing on Saturday, we're going
- 28:43Speaker 9: to have four boats at once. Right, so for all
- 28:47Speaker 9: against each other at the same time.
- 28:48Speaker 8: It should be quite exciting.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Oh right, And this is this just an internal thing
- 28:52Speaker 1: in the rowing club or has it been put out
- 28:54Speaker 1: to other rowing clubs?
- 28:55Speaker 9: Note we've put out to other rowing clubs. We've got
- 28:57Speaker 9: people coming from Nottingham, coming from Dorset. Oh, we actually
- 29:01Speaker 9: got so many entries we had to shut them.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Earlies, did you?
- 29:04Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 29:04Speaker 1: So how many? How many rowers have you got?
- 29:06Speaker 5: Got?
- 29:07Speaker 8: One hundred and eleven?
- 29:08Speaker 1: Oh well, dear, So that is a day full of races,
- 29:11Speaker 1: isn't it?
- 29:11Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 29:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, excellent. So once again I picked up that
- 29:17Speaker 1: there's sometimes one in a boat, sometimes two in a boat,
- 29:20Speaker 1: Is that right?
- 29:21Speaker 5: Yes?
- 29:22Speaker 8: You can also get four. We won't be doing that.
- 29:24Speaker 1: No, So these are all be single, single races.
- 29:27Speaker 8: Yeah, there wud be singles and doubles and doubles.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Yeah, one minute, I'll get confused. Now doubles, what's the double?
- 29:32Speaker 1: So it's four people? Just say it's one race, right,
- 29:36Speaker 1: and it's doubles that four rowers, is it?
- 29:39Speaker 8: Well that will be eight but four boats?
- 29:43Speaker 1: Yes, right right. I'm sure that I really want to
- 29:47Speaker 1: try and get down there on Saturday, and I'm sure
- 29:50Speaker 1: it'll all. I mean, even even if someone turns up
- 29:52Speaker 1: and as a look over the promenade there, that they'll
- 29:55Speaker 1: pick it up straight away. See what's going on now?
- 29:58Speaker 1: The first thing is brings to mind is doing things
- 30:01Speaker 1: that the Sunny saying it relies on nature and the tides. Now,
- 30:06Speaker 1: was this a difficult one to pin down on a
- 30:10Speaker 1: certain date, you know, on like the tides on Saturday?
- 30:13Speaker 9: Yeah, we picked Saturday because, yeah, the tide is at
- 30:16Speaker 9: half eleven twelve o'clock should be low tide, so we
- 30:19Speaker 9: should have plenty of time either side because we do
- 30:21Speaker 9: need some beach.
- 30:22Speaker 8: If the beach disappears, are in trouble.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Right, Oh yeah, So I mean to make it pretty fair,
- 30:27Speaker 1: You've got to keep the sprint from the start line
- 30:29Speaker 1: into the water the same because as the tide comes in,
- 30:32Speaker 1: you're going to get quicker times, aren't you. So you've
- 30:34Speaker 1: got to find that window and get it all in there,
- 30:36Speaker 1: have you.
- 30:37Speaker 8: Yeah, Well, there'll.
- 30:39Speaker 9: Be heats for some races, so everyone will have a
- 30:42Speaker 9: similar amount, but as a day goes on, so we're
- 30:44Speaker 9: going to have to run more than row.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Okay, so you just mentioned that this is going to
- 30:50Speaker 1: This sort of sport is going to the Olympics. Is
- 30:52Speaker 1: that right?
- 30:53Speaker 8: Yeah, that's amazing.
- 30:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Yeah, And so is there a beach sprint Regatta sociation
- 31:00Speaker 1: or equivalent, you know, a governing body?
- 31:03Speaker 9: Well, British Rowing have really got behind this. Yeah, and
- 31:07Speaker 9: folks of owning club became a sculling academy. There's only
- 31:10Speaker 9: eleven of us in the country, so it's quite amazing.
- 31:13Speaker 9: We're the only one in the southeast.
- 31:15Speaker 8: So yeah.
- 31:16Speaker 1: So because it's new to folks, has it been sort
- 31:19Speaker 1: of and it's that time of year. I mean our
- 31:22Speaker 1: other clubs doing the same sort of thing. They're getting
- 31:24Speaker 1: there their beach sprint. Regattas going No, it's just us,
- 31:28Speaker 1: is it?
- 31:29Speaker 8: Yeah, so they're coming to us.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Really okay, right, yeah, I suppose if you're like Club's
- 31:35Speaker 1: Light in Nottingham, haven't got the beach they no, No,
- 31:39Speaker 1: So that is this is all really good stuff. Really,
- 31:42Speaker 1: it's a sport that is new to the town and
- 31:45Speaker 1: it's new to me. I mean I've been talking about sports,
- 31:48Speaker 1: as some of my listeners will know. I did at
- 31:50Speaker 1: eight as said of sport A started with archery and
- 31:54Speaker 1: zaid finishing with zimba, and I tried to find a
- 31:56Speaker 1: sport in folks, and all the way through the alphabet
- 32:00Speaker 1: I only got stuck with with Q and X. I
- 32:04Speaker 1: think I managed to find the sports. But this is
- 32:07Speaker 1: totally new. It's lovely, it's exciting, and it's great news
- 32:09Speaker 1: for the club, for the town and the fact that
- 32:13Speaker 1: you've you've got one hundred rowers is amazing. So if
- 32:17Speaker 1: this one's a successful, you do a series of them.
- 32:20Speaker 9: Do you think you would like to be great to
- 32:22Speaker 9: do another one in the autumn and set up to
- 32:25Speaker 9: do them much more often because Sunny Sounds is such
- 32:28Speaker 9: an amazing location.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you couldn't do it down in Insanegate yourself,
- 32:33Speaker 1: could you know? Maybe to running on the beach and
- 32:35Speaker 1: stones and what's your role on Saturday?
- 32:39Speaker 8: I'll be the one with a megaphone. Yeah, I just
- 32:42Speaker 8: hoping it's all going well. Yeah, the clipboard.
- 32:45Speaker 1: I've been down and watched the regattas actually, and when
- 32:48Speaker 1: they start the I don't know. I suppose you call
- 32:51Speaker 1: it the starter. He's quite assertive, isn't he? Get back?
- 32:54Speaker 1: Get up, get back?
- 32:55Speaker 8: You're you're two inches too high or something?
- 32:59Speaker 1: Would that be your job? Well not quite, but you'd
- 33:01Speaker 1: be doing on your marksk and let it go, will you.
- 33:03Speaker 9: Yeah, Well we've got some of those umpires will be
- 33:05Speaker 9: there on Saturdays.
- 33:06Speaker 8: Yeah, they'll be making sure everyone back.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Oh that's really good. And now I think we need
- 33:15Speaker 1: to just touch on the Rowing Club. Now, is is
- 33:17Speaker 1: there anything you want to want to say or want
- 33:19Speaker 1: to add or think or where can people get in
- 33:21Speaker 1: touch with you or the rowers if they've been listening
- 33:25Speaker 1: to this and watching rowing on the telly and thought,
- 33:27Speaker 1: oh whatever, go what do they do? How can I
- 33:30Speaker 1: get in touch?
- 33:31Speaker 9: The best thing is go to our website is folks
- 33:34Speaker 9: at Rowing Club dot com and you can fill out
- 33:36Speaker 9: a form there then we'll get in touch. So if
- 33:38Speaker 9: you've rowed before, you can come along and we'll get
- 33:42Speaker 9: you out of the boat. But if you're new, we'll
- 33:44Speaker 9: put you through a learn to row program?
- 33:46Speaker 1: What program?
- 33:47Speaker 4: Sorry?
- 33:47Speaker 8: Learn to row?
- 33:48Speaker 1: Oh? Learn to row? Yes, yeah, and.
- 33:50Speaker 9: We'll take you from never rowing before through to being
- 33:54Speaker 9: comfortable in the boat.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, okay, And there's anything else you want
- 33:57Speaker 1: to add at all about the club?
- 34:00Speaker 9: We have our own Our normal regatta is on the
- 34:02Speaker 9: twenty fifth of May. It's a little bit of sandgate
- 34:05Speaker 9: that's in the bigger boats. That's your two k course. Yes,
- 34:09Speaker 9: no running in.
- 34:09Speaker 1: That one, just just swimming. If you fall out of
- 34:13Speaker 1: the boat. The regatta that is just so crucial about
- 34:19Speaker 1: the weather. We did speak about that just now, but
- 34:22Speaker 1: you have you actually traveled to a venue and it's
- 34:25Speaker 1: been canceled right the last minute?
- 34:27Speaker 9: Is that sort of I haven't, but usually people make
- 34:31Speaker 9: the call on the morning. Yeah yeah, all the night before, right,
- 34:35Speaker 9: so I haven't, but it is fairly common.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, Okay, right, Well, I think we've covered
- 34:40Speaker 1: about everything. I mean, I'm amazing and it's if anybody's
- 34:44Speaker 1: really interested in just watching this, this is uh they
- 34:48Speaker 1: brought it in I think because it's a spectator sport
- 34:51Speaker 1: as well, So get yourself down. Just tell us briefly again,
- 34:55Speaker 1: where and when and what sort of time, as Zoe
- 34:57Speaker 1: before we close. What's going on Saturday?
- 35:01Speaker 9: So from nine o'clock the first rate starts at Sunny
- 35:04Speaker 9: Sands and it will probably go on till about two thirty.
- 35:09Speaker 9: And it's yeah, it's the whole point of the sport
- 35:11Speaker 9: was to bring rowing to the spectators. That really exciting
- 35:14Speaker 9: short format. It's great to watch, brilliant.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Okay, Well, Zoe, thanks for coming in, and it's been
- 35:20Speaker 1: really really nice to talk to you. And I know
- 35:23Speaker 1: quite a few of the rowers down there, and I'm
- 35:25Speaker 1: looking forward to trying to get down there on the
- 35:27Speaker 1: Saturday and enjoying this new sport that's come to folks
- 35:32Speaker 1: and thanks to the folks and Rower Club.
- 35:33Speaker 8: Thank you very much, Zoe, thank you, well.
- 35:36Speaker 4: That was Zoe.
- 35:36Speaker 1: They're telling us about a beach sprint regatta and I
- 35:39Speaker 1: did manage to get down there actually, and it was
- 35:41Speaker 1: very interesting because the biggest factor on the day was
- 35:43Speaker 1: the weather. And now I do believe I didn't get
- 35:46Speaker 1: there at the start, but I do believe they did
- 35:47Speaker 1: try it and put, if you like, three three boats
- 35:50Speaker 1: out there, one, two, three, all starting at the same time.
- 35:53Speaker 1: But the weather, they were like crashing into each other,
- 35:56Speaker 1: so they ended up with sort of two boats row
- 36:00Speaker 1: against each other and they could push them further apart.
- 36:03Speaker 1: But it wasn't all about the sprint either. I mean,
- 36:06Speaker 1: it just depended on your luck as well, or how
- 36:08Speaker 1: you could control the boat around the round the beacon
- 36:12Speaker 1: if you like, and get back. But it was exciting
- 36:16Speaker 1: and you could see that it was very competitive as well.
- 36:19Speaker 1: So that was a real big coup for folks and
- 36:22Speaker 1: the rowing club there. So once again, let's turn the
- 36:24Speaker 1: clock back and have a bit of the beach boys.
- 36:29Speaker 5: Hello, and the Weird Light plays a partner here.
- 36:48Speaker 1: The Beach Boys there, and that was Zoe there from
- 36:51Speaker 1: the Folks and Rowing Club telling us all about Beach
- 36:54Speaker 1: Sprint Regatta. Now, please bear in mind these interviews were
- 36:58Speaker 1: last year, twenty twenty five, so don't go rushing out
- 37:01Speaker 1: and checking your diary for some of the dates that
- 37:04Speaker 1: were quoted. You won't find them. They've been and gone.
- 37:08Speaker 1: But it's been a fantastic year and really ended the
- 37:12Speaker 1: first hour, So we're just going to kind of slow
- 37:14Speaker 1: things down a bit and we're going to play a
- 37:16Speaker 1: bit of the Lighthouse family
