- 0:17On this special occasion, we pause to honor the
- 0:21values that unite us. Faith, freedom, service,
- 0:26family, and the enduring spirit of America. From
- 0:31the Church of Life. This is the Voices of Life
- 0:35podcast. And now, please welcome your host, Pastor
- 0:44David, bringing encouragement, truth, and inspiration
- 0:50for today's world. This is the Voices of Life
- 0:59podcast. Voices of Life podcast, a ministry of
- 1:10the Church for Life. I'm Pastor David, and today,
- 1:13on this Memorial Day, we pause as a nation to
- 1:18remember, to honor, and to give thanks. Memorial
- 1:26Day is more than a long weekend, more than barbecues
- 1:31and family gatherings. It is a sacred moment
- 1:34in our national rhythm. A day set apart to honor
- 1:40the men and women who gave their lives in service
- 1:43to our country. Columbia Stellar Quartet from
- 4:591915 singing Onward Christian Soldiers. This
- 5:04was retrieved by the Library of Congress. Today
- 5:09we speak their names in our hearts. We remember
- 5:13their courage, we honor their sacrifice, and
- 5:18we acknowledge the families who carry the weight
- 5:21of their absence. Scripture reminds us in John
- 5:2815 verse 13, greater love has no one than this,
- 5:35that someone lay down his life for his friends.
- 5:41Today, we remember those who lived that truth.
- 5:50Memorial Day invites us to slow down, to breathe.
- 5:54to reflect on our freedoms that we enjoy because
- 5:59others stood in the gap. It reminds us that freedom
- 6:06is never free. It is carried on the shoulders
- 6:09of those who believed in something greater than
- 6:13themselves. There's a feeling comes a -stealing
- 6:36and it sets my brain a -reeling when I'm listening
- 6:38to the music of a military band. Any tune like
- 6:42Yankee Doodle simply sets me off my noodle. It's
- 6:45a patriotic something that no one can understand.
- 6:49Way down south in the land of cotton, melody
- 6:51untiring. Ain't that inspiring? Hurrah, hurrah,
- 6:58we'll join the Jubilee And that's going some
- 7:01for the Yankees by gun Red, white, and blue,
- 7:05I am for you Honest, you're a grand old flag
- 7:09You're a grand old flag, you're a high -flying
- 7:14flag And forever in peace may you reign You're
- 7:18the emblem of the land I love The home of the
- 7:23free and the brave Every heart beats blue under
- 7:27red, white, and blue when there's ever a boast
- 7:30or brag. But you all, the greatest people, don't
- 7:37keep your eye on the grand old brag. I'm no Frankie,
- 7:48Hanky, Panky, I'm a dead square honest Yankee,
- 7:50and I'm mighty proud of that old flag that flies
- 7:53for Uncle Sam. Though I don't believe in raving,
- 7:56every time I see it waving, there's a chill runs
- 7:58up my back that makes me glad I'm what I am.
- 8:02Here's a land with a million soldiers, that if
- 8:05we should need them, we'll fight for freedom.

- 8:39beats two on the red, white, and blue when they
- 8:42never oppose the rank. Watch your load and wait
- 8:48and see for one. Keep your eye on the grand old
- 8:52track. That was the G .M. Cohen American Quartet.
- 9:08in 1917 singing your grand old flag taken from
- 9:14the Library of Congress. Lord, today we lift
- 9:21up every fallen hero. We thank you for their
- 9:25courage, their devotion, and their willingness
- 9:28to serve. Comfort the families who grieve. Strengthen
- 9:34the hearts that still feel the ache. of loss
- 9:37and teach us to live lives worthy of the sacrifices
- 9:43made on our behalf. Amen. As we honor the fallen,
- 9:52we also look forward with hope. Hope for a nation
- 9:57united. Hope for peace in our world. Hope rooted
- 10:02in the God who heals, restores, and renews. Every
- 10:11name etched on a memorial, every folded flag
- 10:16handed to a grieving family, every empty seat
- 10:20at the dinner table represents a story. A story
- 10:27of courage, a story of conviction, and a story
- 10:30of sacrifice. Some were young. Some were seasoned.
- 10:39All. We're brave. Today we honor their stories.
- 10:50Freedom is a beautiful word, but it also is a
- 10:55costly one. Every freedom we enjoy today, the
- 11:04freedom to worship, the freedom to speak, the
- 11:09freedom to gather, The freedom to dream was purchased
- 11:15by the courage of those who were willing to stand
- 11:19in harm's way. Some never returned home. Some
- 11:27returned changed forever. But all paid a price.
- 11:37Across our nation today, There are empty chairs
- 11:40at kitchen tables, chairs that once held a son,
- 11:43a daughter, a husband, a wife, a friend. These
- 11:49chairs remind us that the cost of freedom is
- 11:52not abstract. It is personal. It is emotional.
- 11:58It is deeply human. And for many families, Memorial
- 12:06Day is not a holiday. It is a wound, a memory,
- 12:11a story that still aches. Throughout scripture,
- 12:19we see God honoring those who stand in the gap
- 12:22for others. In Isaiah 6, the Lord asks, Whom
- 12:28shall I send and who will go for us? And Isaiah
- 12:34responds, Here I am. Send me. Many of our fallen
- 12:42heroes answered that same call. They stepped
- 12:46forward. They stood up. They said, Send me. Lord,
- 12:56today we pray for our nation. We pray for the
- 12:59unity in a time of division. We pray for the
- 13:04compassion in a time of conflict. We pray for
- 13:08the wisdom in the time of uncertainty. Teach
- 13:13us to honor the sacrifices made for us. Teach
- 13:15us to value the freedoms we often overlook. Teach
- 13:20us to walk humbly, gratefully, and responsibly.
- 13:25Amen. who came before us. On this Memorial Day,
- 13:39we inherit the legacy of courage, the legacy
- 13:43of sacrifice, the legacy of freedom. And the
- 13:48question becomes, what will we do with it? To
- 13:55honor the fallen is not only to remember them,
- 14:00but to live in a way that reflects the values
- 14:04they died to protect. to live with integrity
- 14:09to love our neighbors to serve with humility
- 14:14to stand up for what is right and to cherish
- 14:19the freedoms we have been given this is how we
- 14:26honor their sacrifice this is how we carry their
- 14:31legacy forward Let your mind reflect on the cost
- 14:40of freedom. And let your spirit be strengthened
- 14:44by the courage of those who gave everything.
- 14:48This is Memorial Day. This is a remembrance.
- 14:52This is an honor. Every story of sacrifice carries
- 15:01a spiritual weight. A weight that touches families,
- 15:09communities, and the heart of a nation. And in
- 15:16the midst of that weight, faith becomes more
- 15:20than belief. It becomes an anchor. Faith holds
- 15:26us steady when loss shakes the ground beneath
- 15:30us. There are moments when grief feels overwhelming.
- 15:38Moments when the silence in a home is louder
- 15:40than any sound. But scripture reminds us in Psalm
- 15:4734 verse 18, The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
- 15:53and saves those who are crushed in spirit. God
- 16:00does not stand far off when hearts are hurting.
- 16:04He steps into the valley with us. He sits with
- 16:08us as we grieve. He strengthens the weary. He
- 16:13comforts the wounded. Throughout history, men
- 16:20and women of faith have stepped into danger.
- 16:24Not because they sought glory, but because they
- 16:28believed in something greater. Some prayed in
- 16:32foxholes. Some carried scripture in their pockets.
- 16:38Some whispered the name of Jesus as they ran
- 16:41toward the sound of battle. And even in the darkest
- 16:47moments, faith lit a path forward. Lord, today
- 16:58we pray for every man and woman who continues
- 17:00to serve our nation. We pray for courage in the
- 17:04face of danger. We pray for wisdom in the moments
- 17:07of uncertainty. We pray for protection over every
- 17:13step they take. Surround them with your presence.
- 17:18Guide them with your peace. And remind them that
- 17:24they are never alone. Amen. Behind every service
- 17:31member is someone who waits. A spouse who watches
- 17:35the calendar. A parent who prays through the
- 17:40night. A child who counts the days until mom
- 17:45or dad comes home. These families carry a quiet,
- 17:52powerful faith. A faith that trusts God, even
- 17:59when the future feels uncertain. Today, we honor
- 18:04their faith as well. The American flag reminds
- 18:09us of sacrifice. The cross reminds us of redemption.
- 18:15One represents the cost of earthly freedom. The
- 18:19other represents the gift of eternal freedom.
- 18:22And on Memorial Day, these two symbols stand
- 18:26side by side, not in competition, but in harmony.
- 18:32They remind us that sacrifice is sacred, that
- 18:37love is powerful, and that hope is eternal. Let
- 18:46your heart rest in the truth that God is near
- 18:49to the broken, faithful to the grieving, and
- 18:53present in every story of sacrifice. Remember,
- 18:58this Memorial Day is about remembrance. about
- 19:02honor Memorial Day is a day of remembrance but
- 19:11remembrance is not passive it shapes us it humbles
- 19:15us it calls us to gratitude and gratitude is
- 19:21the soil where hope begins to grow our nation
- 19:28is beautiful but it is also wounded. We carry
- 19:34political division, cultural tension, and the
- 19:39weight of loss. But scripture reminds us in Psalm
- 19:43147 verse 3, he heals the brokenhearted and binds
- 19:50up their wounds. If God can heal a heart, he
- 19:55can heal a home. He can heal a nation. Those
- 20:05we honor today did not give their lives for division.
- 20:10They did not sacrifice for bitterness. They did
- 20:14not fall so that we could fight each other. They
- 20:19gave us their lives for unity, for freedom, for
- 20:26peace. And the greatest way we honor them is
- 20:31by living out the values they died to protect.
- 20:39Lord, today we pray for the future of our nation.
- 20:44We pray for the leaders who walk with integrity.
- 20:49We pray for the communities that choose compassion.
- 20:54We pray for the families strengthened by your
- 20:57grace. Let unity rise. Let peace take root. Let
- 21:04hope be restored. And let us become a people
- 21:08worthy of sacrifices made for us. Amen. Hope
- 21:17is not the absence of struggle. Hope is the presence
- 21:22of God in the midst of it. Hope is what carried
- 21:27soldiers through the darkest nights. Hope is
- 21:32what carried families through seasons of uncertainty.
- 21:36And hope is what carries us today. Because our
- 21:40hope is anchored in the one who never fails.
- 21:47Gratitude is more than a feeling. It is a way
- 21:51of life. To live gratefully is to slow down,
- 21:55to notice blessings, to cherish freedom, to honor
- 22:02sacrifice, and to walk humbly before God. Gratitude
- 22:09transforms us. Gratitude strengthens us. And
- 22:15gratitude unites us. Let them go down. Columbia
- 25:39Stellar Quartet under the direction of C. Harrison
- 25:43with Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key.
- 25:49This was in 1917 and this track, which is the
- 25:54full version, was taken from the Library of Congress.
- 26:01As we close this Memorial Day special, may your
- 26:06heart be full gratitude your spirit full of peace
- 26:11and your life full of purpose may the Lord bless
- 26:16you and keep you may his face shine upon you
- 26:19may his grace surround you and may his hope guide
- 26:24you forward let us pray Heavenly Father on this
- 26:33Memorial Day we pause before your grateful hearts
- 26:39We thank you for the men and women who gave their
- 26:43lives in service to our nation. We honor their
- 26:46courage and their sacrifice and the legacy they
- 26:51leave behind. Lord, wrap your arms around every
- 26:55family who carries the weight of loss. Bring
- 26:59comfort to the grieving, strength to the weary,
- 27:02and peace to every heart that still feels the
- 27:07ache. and emptiness of the empty chair. Teach
- 27:14us to live with gratitude. Teach us to walk with
- 27:18humility. Teach us to cherish the freedoms purchased
- 27:23at such a great cost. And as we leave this time
- 27:28together, may your presence go before us, your
- 27:32love surround us, and your hope anchor us. Bless
- 27:37our nation, Lord. Heal our wounds. Unite our
- 27:41hearts. And guide us in your truth. We remember.
