- 0:31Speaker 1: All right, here we are back at the Business Roundtable podcast.
- 0:35Speaker 1: We're here to help you lead your business well. And
- 0:38Speaker 1: I've got a returning guest, Bill Hatch on tonight, and
- 0:41Speaker 1: we were going through and we've thought a perfect topic
- 0:45Speaker 1: to discuss is how do we stay calm in crisis situations?
- 0:50Speaker 1: And I don't know if any of you guys have
- 0:51Speaker 1: been following Southern California. We've had a lot of crisises
- 0:54Speaker 1: of late with fires and all sorts of you know,
- 0:58Speaker 1: I've got literally a flood warning my phone today. We've
- 1:01Speaker 1: got rain coming down here. Those are just the weather conditions.
- 1:03Speaker 1: We're not talking about all the business changes regarding cash flow, challenges, staffing,
- 1:08Speaker 1: you know, folks of change, and numerous challenges or crisises
- 1:13Speaker 1: that come up in a business. And so I thought,
- 1:17Speaker 1: Yil Bill has been seasoned, He's seen a lot, worked
- 1:20Speaker 1: with a lot of businesses and a lot of business
- 1:22Speaker 1: owners and teams as as y. So together are combined
- 1:27Speaker 1: to our powers here are to really help discuss mindset
- 1:30Speaker 1: and strategies that can help you stay calm and make
- 1:32Speaker 1: sound decisions while under pressure. And so Bill, welcome back
- 1:38Speaker 1: to the Business round Table podcast. I'm excited to dig
- 1:41Speaker 1: into this topic with you today. Me too.
- 1:45Speaker 2: It's a it's a great topic and can be used
- 1:48Speaker 2: in all manner of situations.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Mm hmm. Absolutely. I know you've served as a leader
- 1:55Speaker 1: in different organizations, businesses, nonprofit and so you know, can
- 2:02Speaker 1: you share a little bit Bill about your background here?
- 2:06Speaker 1: So those of you haven't heard Bill, he's been on
- 2:08Speaker 1: our podcast since we've started early in twenty twenty three
- 2:11Speaker 1: and we love having him back because he's got so
- 2:13Speaker 1: many different experiences. But just briefly, Bill, just share in
- 2:16Speaker 1: a little bit about your your history and background working
- 2:19Speaker 1: in kind of high stakes and dealing with crisis is
- 2:21Speaker 1: over over time?
- 2:23Speaker 2: Well?
- 2:24Speaker 1: Is it crisises or crises? Crisis? Well, if you're listening
- 2:30Speaker 1: to this, give us their comments, yeah, this is a
- 2:33Speaker 1: crisis what though?
- 2:38Speaker 2: But well, my experience experiences range across a broad a
- 2:47Speaker 2: broad number of industries. Some of my biggest experiences are
- 2:54Speaker 2: with the automotive industry and with the insurance industry. A
- 3:00Speaker 2: lot of sales background going on in there, a lot
- 3:04Speaker 2: of a lot of regulations going on in there, and
- 3:10Speaker 2: so it's really easy to get in those industries to
- 3:14Speaker 2: get into a into a crisis with just having to
- 3:18Speaker 2: do with the what the government decides it's going to do.
- 3:24Speaker 2: You know, auto industry has not just the automotive regulations,
- 3:29Speaker 2: but also also banking regulations to go into that as
- 3:34Speaker 2: as you know. And with insurance you've got FINRA, which
- 3:38Speaker 2: can be oh that can be a bear, you know.
- 3:45Speaker 2: But yeah, I had one once where I was creating
- 3:50Speaker 2: the YELP page for an insurance agent and all I
- 3:54Speaker 2: did was copy the information that was on the business
- 3:58Speaker 2: card that was already approved by Finnron cease and assist letter.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Oh geez that.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Yeah, so so I had to take it down.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Oh my goodness. So multiple industries I come and you
- 4:15Speaker 1: and you know, so you just hit transportation, banking, automotive,
- 4:20Speaker 1: you know, I I cover environmental also regulations, but you
- 4:24Speaker 1: know a lot of thingseering, engineering, right, I worked with
- 4:29Speaker 1: engineering and see some engineering crises as well. So so
- 4:35Speaker 1: you know, you're you're you're hearing from seasoned experts, folks
- 4:39Speaker 1: that have been in the in these multiple fields for years.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Between Bill and I, and you know, we don't want
- 4:45Speaker 1: you to make the same mistakes that we did, right Bill,
- 4:47Speaker 1: or fall into the traps of uh being fearful and
- 4:52Speaker 1: and and not and making poor decisions in the midst
- 4:56Speaker 1: of of that. And so Bill has a lot of expertise,
- 5:00Speaker 1: you know, in his background, and I wanted to have
- 5:02Speaker 1: on here from psychology and just understanding oneself. And and
- 5:07Speaker 1: so I just thought, Bill, wait, let's be if we
- 5:09Speaker 1: could start with just mindset, uh just literally how do
- 5:13Speaker 1: we stay calm? Because some people don't haven't even practiced,
- 5:17Speaker 1: are not intentional about this about stay in calm. So
- 5:20Speaker 1: could you talk maybe about the idea of the psychology
- 5:24Speaker 1: or background between panicking and having composure and remaining calm,
- 5:30Speaker 1: because you know how we react unto this stress.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, actually, I've got a saying from from my
- 5:39Speaker 2: favorite YouTube meteorologist, and he said, Ryan Hall, y'all. He says,
- 5:46Speaker 2: don't be scared, be prepared. And that's where that's where
- 5:52Speaker 2: you get your mindset from, is the preparation.
- 5:57Speaker 1: You know.
- 5:59Speaker 2: My my favorite, I guess example to use is when
- 6:06Speaker 2: I was in an industrial fire. And that's a situation
- 6:11Speaker 2: when panic can really set in and do you a
- 6:14Speaker 2: lot of damage. You know, I I got I got
- 6:19Speaker 2: burns to the backs of both of my hands, second
- 6:23Speaker 2: and third degree, and and I after removing myself from
- 6:30Speaker 2: the fire, of course, while being on fire, my first
- 6:35Speaker 2: instinct was to pray, and then after that I finally
- 6:42Speaker 2: got somebody's attention to let me inside, and everybody else
- 6:47Speaker 2: was panicking and I had to stay calm, and I
- 6:51Speaker 2: definitely believe the Lord was helping me with that. But
- 6:54Speaker 2: a lot of it comes from preparation, you know, from
- 6:58Speaker 2: from things that you learn and set up in advance
- 7:02Speaker 2: to to deal with these kinds of situations, so that
- 7:06Speaker 2: everybody else is panicking. You can say, okay, you find
- 7:09Speaker 2: the first aid kit, you find out where the where
- 7:13Speaker 2: where we're supposed to go after this, you find out,
- 7:16Speaker 2: you do this, you do that, and uh and keep
- 7:19Speaker 2: everything moving in the right direction. Uh, you know, and
- 7:24Speaker 2: then you can you know that that mindset applies to
- 7:29Speaker 2: just about any kind of situation that you can find
- 7:31Speaker 2: yourself in. You know, go, uh go, you know, prepare, learn,
- 7:35Speaker 2: learn all the things we're going to talk about and uh,
- 7:39Speaker 2: and then you'll when the situation happens, whether it's a
- 7:43Speaker 2: fire or a flood, or an earthquake or a tornado.
- 7:49Speaker 2: You know, I know some people in the South tonight
- 7:51Speaker 2: are having or having tornadoes, but uh, yeah, then you'll
- 7:57Speaker 2: be in the right mindset to be effective. Yes, and
- 8:03Speaker 2: you'll effectively be the leader because everyone else will be panicking.
- 8:07Speaker 2: So no matter what your situation is, whether you whether
- 8:10Speaker 2: you're officially a leader or not, you'll suddenly find yourself
- 8:13Speaker 2: thrust into the position. So definitely be prepared.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Yeah, so you hit on a few different things, and
- 8:23Speaker 1: as you're talking about being prepared, I you know, I
- 8:28Speaker 1: don't know why this this vision comes on my mind,
- 8:31Speaker 1: but I'm thinking of the Titanic movie, you know, where
- 8:34Speaker 1: there's people literally panicking, they're feeling filling out, the lifeboats
- 8:38Speaker 1: half full, and they didn't figure out how to plan
- 8:40Speaker 1: all this. And then you have people, you know, you
- 8:42Speaker 1: hear the stories of you know, the people that they
- 8:46Speaker 1: stayed back, we're playing music, try and keep everybody calm,
- 8:49Speaker 1: even though they knew they were going down, but they
- 8:52Speaker 1: remained composure because they knew how that would affect everybody
- 8:56Speaker 1: else's brain. And so it's like we can either go
- 8:59Speaker 1: to the panic and everybody panics and you see, you
- 9:02Speaker 1: see unfortunately terrible things like you know, where people in
- 9:05Speaker 1: concerts where people have been crushed or something like that,
- 9:08Speaker 1: and they're already instead of understanding this, instead of maintaining
- 9:11Speaker 1: the composure and working together. One thing I will say
- 9:16Speaker 1: it is practicing this we have here in California, what
- 9:19Speaker 1: is it the great shakeout where they have like a
- 9:21Speaker 1: earthquake and they go through the days, or I've done
- 9:24Speaker 1: in buildings where we do like you know, fired rills
- 9:28Speaker 1: and it seems kind of silly at some point you're like,
- 9:30Speaker 1: what are we doing? But in reality, when you realize that,
- 9:32Speaker 1: we're training our brains to experience, like go through it.
- 9:37Speaker 1: The composure. So if you've never contemplated right like this,
- 9:40Speaker 1: like you just said, build some of these things, and
- 9:42Speaker 1: it's like completely brand new to you, you're definitely probably
- 9:45Speaker 1: gonna panic because it's all brand new. But if you've
- 9:47Speaker 1: like at least contemplated and recognize, okay, this could happen,
- 9:51Speaker 1: these are the scenarios that might might occur. The more
- 9:55Speaker 1: that we can do that, you know, we can't be
- 9:58Speaker 1: one hundred percent prepared, but that definitely, in my experience,
- 10:01Speaker 1: helps minimize panic and helps you stack in the composure
- 10:05Speaker 1: call And what well has that been your experience? Yeah?
- 10:09Speaker 2: Absolutely, and uh yeah, just knowing knowing your business inside
- 10:14Speaker 2: and out, knowing what what can happen in the and
- 10:18Speaker 2: the consequences of things happening. Well, that will help you
- 10:23Speaker 2: right in those situations when those situations come up, you know,
- 10:27Speaker 2: you need your own your own fire drill, if you will,
- 10:30Speaker 2: for for various types of situations that can happen in
- 10:34Speaker 2: your business. M like uh, like like an audit coming
- 10:39Speaker 2: through or uh or the fire marshal coming in and saying, Okay,
- 10:44Speaker 2: we need to review all of this.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Right, you know, you're you'll.
- 10:49Speaker 2: You'll be uh, you'll be in a good situation.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Yeah. I think we need to be intentional and mindful.
- 10:55Speaker 1: There are practical, very real classes and courses that you take,
- 11:00Speaker 1: Like sexual harassment is another one. You don't want to
- 11:02Speaker 1: be surprised by that, Like how do you have emotional
- 11:04Speaker 1: intelligent resilience if you have somebody to come up and
- 11:06Speaker 1: talk to you or share with you that so you
- 11:08Speaker 1: don't say the wrong thing or do the wrong thing.
- 11:12Speaker 1: And so you know, it's it's important, like you're saying
- 11:16Speaker 1: Bill to you know, we're gonna get here in a moment,
- 11:19Speaker 1: some practical strategies you can take, but to you know,
- 11:24Speaker 1: maintain perspective in in these high pressure moments. But I
- 11:29Speaker 1: think it's important that we cultivate calmness. You and I've
- 11:34Speaker 1: talked about you know, we're going to talk about some
- 11:36Speaker 1: things that you can do there. But recognize there's like
- 11:41Speaker 1: you said, the audit's gonna come, uh, the employee is
- 11:44Speaker 1: gonna quit unexpectedly. Perhaps you know these things are it's
- 11:49Speaker 1: not if it's just what it's going to be. And
- 11:51Speaker 1: maybe you don't know every scenario. I get that, but
- 11:54Speaker 1: you've practiced and you've gone through some scenarios that so
- 11:57Speaker 1: that you can be calm in the midst of it.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I have two children now they're older. They challenged me oftentimes,
- 12:04Speaker 1: and so how do I how do I remain calm
- 12:07Speaker 1: and present and not flipping out? Uh and being you know,
- 12:13Speaker 1: uh not really emotionally intelligent, not resilient. In fact, I
- 12:18Speaker 1: crumple if you will. And you know, I think that's
- 12:22Speaker 1: the difference in somebody that's a true leader, is how
- 12:25Speaker 1: are they able to stay composed and have that emotional
- 12:27Speaker 1: intelligence and withstand the pressure right right right.
- 12:34Speaker 2: And yeah, and we'll go through some techniques that, yeah,
- 12:39Speaker 2: more universally.
- 12:41Speaker 1: And yeah, I want to get to something. Yeah, some
- 12:45Speaker 1: practical strategies that you've applied. Bill, We you know, so
- 12:50Speaker 1: if you wouldn't mind just you know, let's just dive
- 12:52Speaker 1: in there here on our podcast. What are some practical
- 12:56Speaker 1: strategies for crisis leadership that you've seen a fact?
- 13:01Speaker 2: Well, you know, one of the one of the things
- 13:06Speaker 2: that that I attribute some of my calmness under pressure
- 13:10Speaker 2: to is actually martial arts. I back when, back when
- 13:16Speaker 2: I was was healthier, I have I have back and
- 13:21Speaker 2: knee problems now, but I studied akito and there's a
- 13:27Speaker 2: lot of mindfulness that it is taught in those in
- 13:33Speaker 2: those types of classes, whether it's a keto or or
- 13:37Speaker 2: one of the other multitude of martial arts, and it
- 13:43Speaker 2: can really help for you, help you to be aware
- 13:46Speaker 2: in whatever situation you happen to be in where panic
- 13:50Speaker 2: might otherwise set in. And you know, you look at
- 13:55Speaker 2: you look back. I watched a couple episodes of the
- 13:59Speaker 2: old Kung Fu show not too long ago, and uh,
- 14:03Speaker 2: and the Master was never excited in everything, no matter
- 14:09Speaker 2: what came along. And uh, you know, of course, uh
- 14:13Speaker 2: quite quite in uh Caine, the main character played by
- 14:20Speaker 2: oh now I've forgotten his name, but anyway, you know,
- 14:25Speaker 2: he never he he never got excited. You know, he
- 14:30Speaker 2: was always present. He no matter what the situation came
- 14:34Speaker 2: upon him, because he was an unarmed man in the
- 14:36Speaker 2: old West, in the old American West, and uh, you know,
- 14:41Speaker 2: he was always calm, cool and collected, and he was
- 14:45Speaker 2: able to think then of the of the solution to
- 14:48Speaker 2: the situation and uh and come through with flying colors,
- 14:54Speaker 2: you know. And that's something that we need to emulate.
- 14:59Speaker 2: And we do that that by studying in advance, just
- 15:02Speaker 2: studying of any kind that anything that builds your brain
- 15:06Speaker 2: will help you have pathways that will help you think
- 15:11Speaker 2: when when you need to think on your feet, uh
- 15:15Speaker 2: and and come across those situations. So I highly recommend
- 15:20Speaker 2: taking up some kind of some kind of martial arts.
- 15:24Speaker 2: It doesn't have to be the more violent ones.
- 15:27Speaker 1: It can be.
- 15:27Speaker 2: It can be something like, uh, what's the one where
- 15:31Speaker 2: they do the movements in in the in the parks
- 15:35Speaker 2: and uh and all what is that one called?
- 15:37Speaker 1: Oh yeah, sorry, you got me. But I know there's
- 15:40Speaker 1: a whole host of different but martial art techniques. Find
- 15:43Speaker 1: out there.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Find out what's uh, find out what's being taught in
- 15:45Speaker 2: your local area and uh and and look into it.
- 15:49Speaker 2: You know, it can it can definitely help, especially for
- 15:52Speaker 2: those leaders just starting out and you want to build
- 15:56Speaker 2: a good foundation for.
- 15:58Speaker 1: For I definitely I think some physical exercise or movement
- 16:03Speaker 1: is good because it puts you, you know, in a
- 16:06Speaker 1: way of like, don't freak out, especially with people that
- 16:08Speaker 1: like lifting weights. I've done that too, if somebody is
- 16:10Speaker 1: helping with you, like, oh my gosh, this is too
- 16:11Speaker 1: much just going through the feelings of what I call
- 16:15Speaker 1: the fight or flight. You know, my biology is my
- 16:17Speaker 1: background is a biology and there's that kind of the
- 16:19Speaker 1: lizard brain where we're like, hey, we're gonna run for
- 16:21Speaker 1: it or we're gonna fight because we're scared, we don't
- 16:24Speaker 1: know what to do. I use a technique called the
- 16:28Speaker 1: Stacking tool, which has helped me, which I've talked about before.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Literally it's an app where I go through this process
- 16:33Speaker 1: of stopping what I'm doing, struggling through whatever the challenge is.
- 16:37Speaker 1: And again depends on how much time you have with
- 16:39Speaker 1: the crisis of what's going on, but this is the
- 16:41Speaker 1: one where you have a little more time to literally,
- 16:44Speaker 1: you know, break it down. It's like, okay, something, Let's
- 16:46Speaker 1: just give you an example out of an employee that's given
- 16:48Speaker 1: their notice today and I was expecting them to help
- 16:50Speaker 1: me and then on a big project. Okay, well, I've
- 16:52Speaker 1: got to figure out how to handle that. So stopping struggling,
- 16:56Speaker 1: if you will, in getting perspective and then ultimately taking action.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Or you could also reframe this in this idea of
- 17:05Speaker 1: kind of a pause and then process and then take action.
- 17:10Speaker 1: It's basically slowing down intentionally versus oh my gosh, oh
- 17:14Speaker 1: my gosh, this is a mess. I don't know what
- 17:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna do. And you're catastrophizing things. If you've ever
- 17:19Speaker 1: met anybody like that that just catastrophizes it make things
- 17:22Speaker 1: even worse than they were, versus slowing it down and calming,
- 17:27Speaker 1: becoming more calm. And I know, Bill, you have experience
- 17:32Speaker 1: with like breathing techniques too, write or maybe meditation. You
- 17:36Speaker 1: speak to that meditation, and.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's generally pretty simple stuff.
- 17:43Speaker 1: You know.
- 17:44Speaker 2: You just learn to to breathe. I actually got one
- 17:47Speaker 2: of my main, my main breathing techniques out of out
- 17:51Speaker 2: of the martial arts. But where you you breathe in
- 17:56Speaker 2: through the nose for however many seconds, the usually thirty seconds,
- 18:01Speaker 2: and then to breathe out through the mouth for an
- 18:03Speaker 2: equal thirty for an equal amount of time, and you know,
- 18:07Speaker 2: it just kind of helps clear the it helps clear
- 18:11Speaker 2: the mind and puts you into a into a stable,
- 18:16Speaker 2: steady state, you know, where everything's kind of balanced out
- 18:21Speaker 2: and you know, so that's a that's a good one.
- 18:25Speaker 2: But but yeah, breathing, always remember to breathe. As a
- 18:30Speaker 2: mister said, breathing very important.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Yeah, but being intentional in your breath work. And there's
- 18:37Speaker 1: people that coach on this. You know, if you're dealing
- 18:40Speaker 1: with a lot of crisises regularly, like it's like part
- 18:43Speaker 1: of your life, like almost daily, get help. Because there's
- 18:47Speaker 1: people that we're talking some just general you know, challenges
- 18:50Speaker 1: and stress. But if you're under constant, like really regular
- 18:53Speaker 1: stress and you're not getting out underneath that, I definitely
- 18:56Speaker 1: know people that specialize in breath work or meditation in
- 19:00Speaker 1: as well if you need to go deeper. Because there
- 19:02Speaker 1: are some things here that I think we're just we're
- 19:05Speaker 1: just touching the surface on and we could have a
- 19:07Speaker 1: whole episode strictly on you know, one of these things.
- 19:10Speaker 1: And the other thing I would add bill to these
- 19:12Speaker 1: things that we're talking about is, you know, when we
- 19:16Speaker 1: have good systems or processes and on one of our contributors.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Uh DOC season not on here. But you don't always
- 19:23Speaker 1: thok about systems. And if you have good systems, if
- 19:26Speaker 1: you have things that you know you can rely on,
- 19:31Speaker 1: that will help you uncertainty. So, you know, we have
- 19:33Speaker 1: a lot of fires out here in California recently. Now
- 19:36Speaker 1: not all of them will always work, but we have
- 19:38Speaker 1: a fire department, We have fire you know, we have hydrants,
- 19:42Speaker 1: we have systems, we have things in place to help
- 19:46Speaker 1: minimize the crisis. If we don't have that, and it's
- 19:49Speaker 1: like just for free for all, you know, who's got
- 19:52Speaker 1: a bucket, who's got a hose? You know that's going
- 19:55Speaker 1: to be much more challenging. So having systems in teams
- 19:59Speaker 1: in place intentionally and cultivating them, that's my passion, particularly
- 20:04Speaker 1: as teams, make sure your team is in alignment, ready
- 20:07Speaker 1: to face the challenge together, right versus everybody.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Just constantly working to improve those systems, right, tweaking them
- 20:17Speaker 2: and adjusting them so that when that panic time comes,
- 20:21Speaker 2: you're not going to be found wanting absolutely the people
- 20:25Speaker 2: know what to do and you'll sail through it. Yeah,
- 20:29Speaker 2: even if the system is not entirely prepared for it.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Exactly if you if you no systems perfect, No systems perfect.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Nobody's than this perfect. But if you're intentional about this,
- 20:44Speaker 1: you could make it through. I know we're hitting you
- 20:46Speaker 1: guys all with kind of a fast and furious here,
- 20:49Speaker 1: with a lot of different ideas or topics in this,
- 20:52Speaker 1: but the point is we want you to be mindful
- 20:56Speaker 1: and really be able to maintain compose us. You're under
- 21:01Speaker 1: stress or under under stress. It's again like we were saying,
- 21:07Speaker 1: future crisis is are going to come and uh, you know,
- 21:12Speaker 1: the reason why we have this whole business Roundtable podcast,
- 21:14Speaker 1: Bill and I is that we want to help business
- 21:17Speaker 1: owners and teams in their particular area make it make
- 21:22Speaker 1: it through another day. Uh, live to tell another tale
- 21:27Speaker 1: of success and and and overcoming these challenges. And so Bill,
- 21:33Speaker 1: I know you're you're working on some things with ethics.
- 21:36Speaker 1: You're working on a book there, right, So you know
- 21:39Speaker 1: ethical dilemmas right that people are facing.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Yes, yes, and uh you know and and again, the
- 21:48Speaker 2: the idea is to be fearful of whatever whatever it
- 21:54Speaker 2: is that comes across, because fear can can reduce our
- 21:58Speaker 2: our our risk taking ability, our resilience and all and
- 22:06Speaker 2: most of us, if not all of us, know that
- 22:09Speaker 2: that real growth comes in taking risks, and so if
- 22:12Speaker 2: you're afraid to take risks, then there's really not going
- 22:15Speaker 2: to be much growth for you. You know, they're you know, so,
- 22:21Speaker 2: so you have to be prepared for what comes when
- 22:25Speaker 2: you take the risk and things don't go perfectly.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Right, things, things will happen. As we're getting close to
- 22:32Speaker 1: the end of the episode here today, Bill, you know,
- 22:35Speaker 1: with our hopefully you know, we've given you, guys some
- 22:38Speaker 1: nuggets to help you stay clear and calm and effective
- 22:42Speaker 1: during these times. And you know, we've talked about the
- 22:45Speaker 1: mindset and some practical strategies, but we want to encourage
- 22:50Speaker 1: you to, you know, reflect, how do you react under
- 22:54Speaker 1: stress and what can you do to improve? So Bill,
- 22:59Speaker 1: and a few of them. Bill, maybe pick one that
- 23:02Speaker 1: you would just really impair somebody that's really new to
- 23:04Speaker 1: this perhaps, And what would you say is the you know,
- 23:10Speaker 1: the particular you know recommendation. If I'm new to this
- 23:13Speaker 1: and maybe I'm taking on and just new to risk,
- 23:15Speaker 1: what would you say, Hey, take this strategy, try to
- 23:18Speaker 1: try this one out and and on and see how
- 23:21Speaker 1: this goes for you.
- 23:23Speaker 2: I would say the easiest thing, because you don't need
- 23:26Speaker 2: any training for it is to take a deep cleansing breath,
- 23:31Speaker 2: m and just found, you know, just get yourself, get
- 23:35Speaker 2: yourself you know, stable, you know, and in what is
- 23:40Speaker 2: going on, and go forward because there's a pretty good
- 23:44Speaker 2: chance you know what to do.
- 23:46Speaker 1: You're just in a panic and you know, and.
- 23:52Speaker 2: You need to uh, you need to just get through it,
- 23:55Speaker 2: through that initial step and uh and you'll be on
- 23:58Speaker 2: your way.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Yeah. That's a good just that's a great one. Just
- 24:03Speaker 1: a cleansing breath. The other thing I would add to
- 24:06Speaker 1: that just for my takeaway, and that is, do you
- 24:09Speaker 1: have at least one person in your life, whether it's
- 24:13Speaker 1: a coworker, a friend, or colleague that you could lean
- 24:18Speaker 1: on in the challenge? Bill's one I lean on? Take
- 24:22Speaker 1: Who could I talk to? Who could I process this?
- 24:26Speaker 1: It's going to just be calm? Right? Do you know
- 24:28Speaker 1: somebody not that somebody is going to be excitable, but
- 24:30Speaker 1: somebody that you know, like you were saying earlier, Bill,
- 24:34Speaker 1: like the sense or the master. Right, who do you
- 24:36Speaker 1: have in your life that you could lean on that
- 24:40Speaker 1: is going to just remain calm and that you can
- 24:42Speaker 1: even if you get a little lighty, they're going to
- 24:44Speaker 1: like help you stay grounded. It might even just say
- 24:47Speaker 1: take a cleansing breath, right, Right, And that's part of
- 24:52Speaker 1: the reason why you know, Bill and I are here
- 24:55Speaker 1: is because you know we're resources to you. So if
- 24:58Speaker 1: any of you are like, you know, I'm not sure,
- 24:59Speaker 1: I don't have anybody or whatnot, then reach out to LRI.
- 25:02Speaker 1: We're happy to talk with you or point you in
- 25:04Speaker 1: the right direction, right Bill. Absolutely, Yeah, So I know
- 25:11Speaker 1: this is this is important stuff that we're talking about
- 25:14Speaker 1: and not to take lightly, but we want you guys
- 25:18Speaker 1: to be you know, better equipped and again, like we said,
- 25:24Speaker 1: stay calm, clear, collected, so that you can be really
- 25:27Speaker 1: effective in leading your team, whether you're the business owner
- 25:30Speaker 1: or the individual you know, supervisor, whatever the case might be.
- 25:37Speaker 1: So that even if you're not leading anybody else but yourself,
- 25:39Speaker 1: but you're around others, right Bill, you can have a
- 25:41Speaker 1: direct positive effect on how you remain calm.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Yeah, people, notice the one who's being calm in the uh.
- 25:51Speaker 2: The group's all in a uh.
