- 0:00Speaker 1: No one wants to see your feet. It's one more thing.
- 0:03Speaker 1: I'm strung and getty. We'll get to that in a moment.
- 0:10Speaker 1: As I did a little traveling over the weekend, which
- 0:12Speaker 1: turned out to be not the best idea since I
- 0:15Speaker 1: was sick and Sam was sick. I just thought we
- 0:17Speaker 1: would power through it or get over it or something,
- 0:19Speaker 1: and it did not work out that way, and we
- 0:21Speaker 1: ended up not doing a lot and coming back early.
- 0:24Speaker 2: So it was very kind of a surprise when the
- 0:26Speaker 2: standard a little cough, little sniffle turns in something nasty.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Ended up spending a tremendous amount of money to
- 0:32Speaker 1: feel horrible in an exotic locale. Anyway, Our friend you
- 0:37Speaker 1: don't know, our friend Dave Katie. It's too bad. He's
- 0:39Speaker 1: one of the best people I've ever met in my life.
- 0:41Speaker 1: He was our boss in San Diego. He lives on
- 0:44Speaker 1: a boat. H Yeah. He had been carrying around a
- 0:47Speaker 1: card in his wallet for years. Live on a boat
- 0:51Speaker 1: by age sixty a goal setting and he did it.
- 0:55Speaker 1: He pulled it off by like a week.
- 0:57Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Goal setting is important, you really, I was talking with
- 1:00Speaker 1: him about that over the weekend. You can't just like
- 1:03Speaker 1: think about things occasionally that you actually want to do.
- 1:06Speaker 1: You got to commit to him like that, like I'm
- 1:08Speaker 1: going to do this by this date, and then you know,
- 1:10Speaker 1: lay the work to actually make that happen. Anyway, Henry
- 1:17Speaker 1: and I slept on his boat two nights in the
- 1:20Speaker 1: marina in San Diego, and he was at his girlfriend's house,
- 1:23Speaker 1: so Henry and I had to boat to ourselves. And
- 1:24Speaker 1: then we went out in the dinghy in San Diego Bay,
- 1:28Speaker 1: which is absolutely awesome. For whatever reason, there was just
- 1:31Speaker 1: no boat traffic. I guess because people love God and
- 1:33Speaker 1: Jesus and care about that more than boating or something.
- 1:36Speaker 1: But on Easter Sunday there was nobody out there but us,
- 1:40Speaker 1: and we were cruising around the bay in this little boat.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I didn't know you could do this until Dave told me.
- 1:48Speaker 1: We went under the Midway. The Midway is an aircraft carrier,
- 1:51Speaker 1: an old aircraft carrier from World War Two that they
- 1:53Speaker 1: have docked in some museum now, but you can go
- 1:55Speaker 1: under it, like around it really close, and the underneath
- 2:00Speaker 1: the anchors which are the size of you know, several
- 2:02Speaker 1: cars and stuff like that. Very very cool.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Yeah wow.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And then we saw one of those giant Disney cruise
- 2:08Speaker 1: ships take off right next to us, which was stunning
- 2:11Speaker 1: to watch up close. Also just oh, it's mind blowing
- 2:15Speaker 1: that anything could be that big and float. Were you
- 2:17Speaker 1: in the water in the dinghy at that point or Oh,
- 2:20Speaker 1: that had to be like awesome slash almost scary. It
- 2:23Speaker 1: was almost scary. I mean it was very obvious then
- 2:27Speaker 1: crazy how fast those things go. It doesn't look like
- 2:30Speaker 1: they're going that fast until you're like in front of
- 2:32Speaker 1: it and trying to get out of the way of it. Yeah,
- 2:34Speaker 1: they're going way faster than it looks. I've never been
- 2:36Speaker 1: on a cruise. Have you been on a cruise?
- 2:37Speaker 3: Giddy?
- 2:38Speaker 1: I have not. I've never had a desire to be
- 2:40Speaker 1: on a cruise.
- 2:41Speaker 2: River cruise. The river cruise was fantastic. That's that's a
- 2:46Speaker 2: very different experience. Yeah, exactly.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Oh, it's been afraid of cruises that like norovirus, being
- 2:51Speaker 4: stuck on a ship like that.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Oh, many thousands of people, Like I was telling Henry
- 2:56Speaker 1: that there are more people on that boat than live
- 2:57Speaker 1: in my hometown, which I looked up and is actually true.
- 3:00Speaker 1: You know, many many thousands of people on a floating
- 3:02Speaker 1: hotel and everything like that, and I just I don't know.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I got really deterred at the beginning of COVID when
- 3:08Speaker 3: all of those people got trapped on that boat and
- 3:10Speaker 3: it was docked like right at the base of the
- 3:12Speaker 3: Bay Bridge in the Bay Area, and every day when
- 3:14Speaker 3: I was driving home, because we're essential workers, right, I
- 3:18Speaker 3: would see that and go, oh, my gosh, these people
- 3:21Speaker 3: are just trapped and they have no idea when they're
- 3:23Speaker 3: getting off, and yep, I'm good.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Anyway, I've never been on a cruise and I've never
- 3:28Speaker 1: been that close to a giant cruise ship, and I
- 3:30Speaker 1: didn't realize it was moving. We were out in the
- 3:32Speaker 1: water and Henry said, I think it's leaving, and I said,
- 3:34Speaker 1: are you sure? And I started paying attention. It was like, yes,
- 3:37Speaker 1: it was coming our way. And we cruised around that
- 3:41Speaker 1: for a while. He went out in the water, and
- 3:42Speaker 1: then these giant tug boats turned it around and then
- 3:45Speaker 1: it headed out to see. Very very fun and Henry
- 3:48Speaker 1: got to drive the boat around, which is highly cool
- 3:50Speaker 1: but very fun. But so I was talking to her
- 3:55Speaker 1: headed back to the hotel and I ended up talking
- 3:57Speaker 1: to the sort of person in tourist towns who has
- 4:00Speaker 1: a tent set up in a high traffic area and
- 4:03Speaker 1: sells little things. You know, We've all seen these sorts
- 4:05Speaker 1: of people. I'd never had a conversation like I had
- 4:08Speaker 1: with this guy, though, and he sold these little things
- 4:10Speaker 1: that my kids were super interested in. So I ended
- 4:12Speaker 1: up being there for a while and talking to him
- 4:14Speaker 1: when he sold a variety of little things, like all
- 4:17Speaker 1: those kind of tents do. He actually sold miniature collectible
- 4:22Speaker 1: tennis shoes. My son's super into sneaker world and like
- 4:27Speaker 1: knows all the hot sneakers and what are the most
- 4:30Speaker 1: popular throughout the years and what's coming out next year
- 4:32Speaker 1: and blah blah blah blah blah. And he and this
- 4:34Speaker 1: guy bonded on that. But he sells miniature ones and
- 4:38Speaker 1: like they're really detailed with actual laces and look exactly
- 4:43Speaker 1: like and have the hangtags on him and my son
- 4:45Speaker 1: thought they were so cool, and so they talked about
- 4:46Speaker 1: it for a long time. Anyway, and they're made in China,
- 4:48Speaker 1: and the tariffs are gonna end his business and make
- 4:52Speaker 1: it almost impossible to sell these things. And we talked
- 4:54Speaker 1: about all that. But the guy made when he was
- 4:58Speaker 1: set up by the Midway with his hint. He said
- 5:01Speaker 1: last year he made a half a million.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Dollars wha selling these little mini shoes total sales.
- 5:07Speaker 1: How much he got to keep I don't know, but
- 5:09Speaker 1: I know his mark up on these things was like
- 5:11Speaker 1: three times. And I'll bet he pays practically no taxes,
- 5:15Speaker 1: so he's certainly making I would assume he's making a
- 5:18Speaker 1: couple hundred thousand dollars a year doing that. Wow. Wow,
- 5:21Speaker 1: I just said, I said, I admire people like you
- 5:23Speaker 1: because he was very knowledgeable about his product. I mean,
- 5:26Speaker 1: he is a guy who clearly put in a tremendous
- 5:28Speaker 1: amount of effort, not to mention the hours to figure
- 5:31Speaker 1: out how to make a living, compared to some people
- 5:33Speaker 1: who have no interest in putting any effort into making
- 5:35Speaker 1: a living and just live off of you. Well, that's
- 5:39Speaker 1: something I know. You know, It's funny how people.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Get crazy into something Like a friend of mine or
- 5:47Speaker 2: I'm sorry, my neighbor's son is like encyclopedic about bourbon.
- 5:55Speaker 2: He knows everything about all the big names in the
- 5:58Speaker 2: history and how this bought by this and that, and
- 6:01Speaker 2: the original distiller was actually the guy who blah blah blah.
- 6:06Speaker 2: But now they're under the label of and I'm like dude,
- 6:08Speaker 2: it's corn liquor. I mean, it's it's it's fine. I
- 6:12Speaker 2: drink it and I forget my problems for a little bit.
- 6:14Speaker 2: And some of it's better than others. But why would you?
- 6:17Speaker 1: But it doesn't matter.
- 6:19Speaker 2: It makes them happy. And mastery of a topic is
- 6:24Speaker 2: like I read a great, a great refutation of the
- 6:29Speaker 2: notion of that man'splaining ones in which they pointed out
- 6:33Speaker 2: that mastery of a topic or a skill is how
- 6:36Speaker 2: men gain status among other men and frequently how they
- 6:42Speaker 2: land a mate. And it's funny that a woman would
- 6:46Speaker 2: be like disdainful of it, but like, I have a
- 6:49Speaker 2: reasonable mastery of preparing and delivering a talk radio show,
- 6:53Speaker 2: and trust me, my wife's pretty happy about it at
- 6:55Speaker 2: this point. But that's that's how males gain status. And
- 6:59Speaker 2: in the female world world, it's more coalition building and
- 7:02Speaker 2: being a willing and helpful participant in that relationship that
- 7:08Speaker 2: articularly group relationship that is interesting.
- 7:10Speaker 1: And then because we live in a you know, safe,
- 7:12Speaker 1: prosperous society here in America, you become you can become
- 7:16Speaker 1: an expert on something that's just not important. But we
- 7:19Speaker 1: have the evolutionary desire to, like, you know, you know,
- 7:24Speaker 1: you're you're sort of making fun of the guy's knowledge
- 7:27Speaker 1: of whiskeys and whatnot. You know more about rock and
- 7:31Speaker 1: roll trivia than the average person, useless, and not everybody
- 7:34Speaker 1: would be into that. No, No, indeed, yeah I wouldn't.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I wouldn't say I'm making fun of it as much
- 7:40Speaker 2: as I'm intrigued.
- 7:42Speaker 1: By it and don't get it right.
- 7:46Speaker 2: But you know, back in the day, and you trip
- 7:49Speaker 2: something else in my head about back before we were
- 7:52Speaker 2: so safe and affluent and secure, you had damned well
- 7:56Speaker 2: be a really good swordsman or a really good rider,
- 8:00Speaker 2: or a really good farmer, or a really good gesture
- 8:04Speaker 2: for the blacksmith whatever. It had to be relevant. But yeah,
- 8:10Speaker 2: you had to be really good at it and be
- 8:11Speaker 2: an expert at it, or you'd probably starve.
- 8:14Speaker 1: This guy's knowledge of sneakers for these little miniature sneakers
- 8:17Speaker 1: that he gets made. He started hand painting him and
- 8:20Speaker 1: making himself, and then he found a manufacturer in Tijuana,
- 8:23Speaker 1: and then he moved that to China as it grew.
- 8:26Speaker 1: That's just amazing people like that who carve out a
- 8:28Speaker 1: way to make a living like that. Yeah, anyway, the
- 8:33Speaker 1: shoe part or the senior feet part just about my
- 8:35Speaker 1: flight on Southwest. So I flew southwest, and as anybody
- 8:39Speaker 1: who flies Southwest, a lot of times they have people
- 8:42Speaker 1: who try to be funny. Who are the air waitresses,
- 8:46Speaker 1: And this one had a particularly good good one. I
- 8:50Speaker 1: mean she was really good. She had a full on
- 8:53Speaker 1: stand up routine, songs, got applause three different times. I mean,
- 8:57Speaker 1: it was really pretty impressive. I'll be here till the
- 9:02Speaker 1: end of the flight. Thank you. She was really good.
- 9:06Speaker 1: But one thing she mentioned that I had never heard
- 9:08Speaker 1: before on a flight was, uh, do not take off
- 9:13Speaker 1: your shoes. Let me say it again in case you
- 9:15Speaker 1: weren't paying attention. Do not take off your shoes. Nobody
- 9:18Speaker 1: wants to see your feet, nobody wants that. Please, do
- 9:20Speaker 1: not take off your shoes. God, I'd never heard anybody
- 9:24Speaker 1: say that before. And there were a couple of collaps.
- 9:28Speaker 1: There are probably some groans that I didn't hear. I've
- 9:33Speaker 1: never had the slightest desire to take off my shoes
- 9:35Speaker 1: on a flight. By more comfortable shoes are your shoes
- 9:39Speaker 1: that uncomfortable?
- 9:40Speaker 3: There is something about certain people and getting on an
- 9:44Speaker 3: airplane where that is like the first thing they do.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Wow.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like they're in a decliner at home.
- 9:50Speaker 1: I'm really comfortable though. I got comfortable shoes on, and
- 9:53Speaker 1: I'm very comfortable.
- 9:55Speaker 2: It would be often uncomfortable and there's nothing I can
- 9:58Speaker 2: do about it because of getting my foot smashed up.
- 10:01Speaker 1: But yeah, I.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Don't just just just bare feet, especially, I don't know.
- 10:08Speaker 2: I don't want your socked feet either. Your Oh my
- 10:11Speaker 2: my feet are exemplary. Oh my gosh, my socks as
- 10:15Speaker 2: fresh as a daisy.
- 10:16Speaker 1: My shoes.
- 10:19Speaker 4: I take my shoes off, and I asked the passenger
- 10:21Speaker 4: next to me to rub my feet.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Oh yeah, why not?
- 10:26Speaker 1: Got it? So? I was coughing yesterday on this flight,
- 10:29Speaker 1: I mean, just you. I felt so far sorry for
- 10:35Speaker 1: the people who sit next me. Both flights, for some
- 10:38Speaker 1: reason half full, and when they announced that half full
- 10:42Speaker 1: flight today, folks, so spread out, you know, enjoy yourself,
- 10:45Speaker 1: find a row whatever. Very few people are both flights
- 10:48Speaker 1: there and back, I end up with a full row.
- 10:50Speaker 1: I sit, I sit by the window and two people
- 10:52Speaker 1: sit next to me, and I didn't say anything to them.
- 10:54Speaker 1: It's like, what are you doing? This flight's half full?
- 10:58Speaker 1: Go back a few rows and sit by yourself. Why
- 11:00Speaker 1: are you sitting next to me. Why are we in
- 11:02Speaker 1: a four row? That is weird.
- 11:04Speaker 3: You should have been coughing the entire boarding procedure.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Ah, that would have been a good But this nice
- 11:10Speaker 1: lesbian couple, a married couple that sat down next to me.
- 11:13Speaker 1: But I was coughing and sneezing the entire flight, just endlessly,
- 11:17Speaker 1: and I felt so bad for me. I turned toward
- 11:19Speaker 1: the window and try to blow my nose that direction
- 11:22Speaker 1: and cough that direction so it wouldn't be quite as obvious.
- 11:24Speaker 1: But it was an hour and a half of I'd
- 11:28Speaker 1: have gotten the hell away from you, especially with open seats, yes,
- 11:33Speaker 1: many open seats. They could have gone anywhere else, and
- 11:35Speaker 1: they just sat there next to me.
- 11:37Speaker 2: M wow.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like the last person you ever want
- 11:42Speaker 1: to sitting next to. I don't think I've ever heard
- 11:44Speaker 1: anybody sneeze or cough as much as I did on
- 11:46Speaker 1: that flight. You would think I'm gonna die. This is
- 11:48Speaker 1: going to kill me. This is the last thing I
- 11:50Speaker 1: ever do sitting next to this nimrod.
- 11:53Speaker 2: God, drop your pants and take off your shoes before
- 11:57Speaker 2: you coughing sneeze next to me.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I didn't want to, and I try to stifle it.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Which makes it makes it worse than you start thinking
- 12:05Speaker 1: in your head. I got a cough, I have to
- 12:07Speaker 1: cough so bad.
- 12:07Speaker 2: You go.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Just oh, it was horrible and Sam was running one
- 12:13Speaker 1: roll away. My kids don't sit next to me on
- 12:15Speaker 1: the flight. Is that weird? I feel like that's weird.
- 12:18Speaker 1: We do not sit together and they don't want to
- 12:20Speaker 1: sit near me. Three of us get on the plane
- 12:22Speaker 1: and we all sit in through different rows.
- 12:25Speaker 2: That's interesting.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I know, a little odd, but it's a part of
- 12:29Speaker 1: it's because we all like window seats. And I mean
- 12:32Speaker 1: I don't demand I sit in a window seat, but
- 12:35Speaker 1: everybody wants a window seats.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I was picture of Jack like arm wrestling the kids.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Now I get the window seat. Yeah, I'm the dam
- 12:45Speaker 1: get out of my way. Yeah, so sorry to the
- 12:48Speaker 1: nice lesbian couple. I sneezed on. I'm not contagious according
- 12:51Speaker 1: to the doctor, so you're fine. What I had to.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Grab the newspaper, gone into the Truman said I'm here
- 13:00Speaker 4: for the whole flight people, and just hid. Well, I
- 13:05Speaker 4: guess that's it.
