- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome, everyone, to the post-World Series edition of Fair Territory.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I am Ken Rosenthal, here with my friend Alana Rizzo,
- 0:18Speaker 1: and we're ready to talk about all things World Series,
- 0:21Speaker 1: and as well, all things entering the off-season.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Ooh!
- 0:26Speaker 1: Ooh! How you doing? I'm good.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Good to be with you. It is spooky. What's really
- 0:32Speaker 3: spooky is no more baseball, at least Major League Baseball
- 0:34Speaker 3: for the foreseeable future. We'll see what happens in terms
- 0:38Speaker 3: of the lockout and the deadline and all of that.
- 0:40Speaker 3: But Ken, let's talk about something that is awesome in
- 0:42Speaker 3: our sport. And it is the scene right now in
- 0:45Speaker 3: the greater Milwaukee area, the parade, the fans. And this
- 0:48Speaker 3: is just one of the reasons, Ken, why we found
- 0:51Speaker 3: out exactly why this team has become so endearing.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Absolutely, Alana. And The fan support they've received, not just
- 0:58Speaker 1: in Milwaukee, but at Tropicana Field was something that I
- 1:02Speaker 1: don't recall ever experiencing in a championship event in any sport,
- 1:06Speaker 1: seeing the road fans come in those kinds of numbers.
- 1:09Speaker 1: And then to see today the parade and just the
- 1:12Speaker 1: joy in Milwaukee. Remember, they had not been to a
- 1:15Speaker 1: World Series in 44 years. The Milwaukee Brewers had never
- 1:18Speaker 1: won a World Series. And there's just an outpouring for
- 1:22Speaker 1: this team and Obviously, it's a lot of civic pride
- 1:25Speaker 1: in Milwaukee, but around the country, it seems to me,
- 1:30Speaker 1: and this is just an opinion and maybe it's not
- 1:32Speaker 1: entirely accurate, but people enjoyed watching the Brewers play baseball.
- 1:37Speaker 1: They had that old school throwback style. They played the
- 1:41Speaker 1: game in a way that we would call fondly from,
- 1:43Speaker 1: I don't know, the 80s and even before that. Didn't
- 1:46Speaker 1: necessarily hit a lot of home runs, but they did
- 1:49Speaker 1: a lot of little things correctly. Not everything, but a
- 1:51Speaker 1: lot of them. And defense, base running, all of these
- 1:55Speaker 1: elements that the Brewers incorporated and emphasized under manager Pat Murphy, well,
- 2:01Speaker 1: they were a joy to watch. And they've got a
- 2:04Speaker 1: cast of characters that was kind of a joy to follow.
- 2:06Speaker 4: The Miz and William Contreras, Yelich and all that he
- 2:10Speaker 4: has meant to the team, Woodruff, what he has meant
- 2:12Speaker 4: to the team, Bryce Turan, Churio, what he did in
- 2:15Speaker 4: the World Series, on and on and on, Cooper Pratt.
- 2:18Speaker 1: So, Obviously, any time a team wins a championship, they're
- 2:23Speaker 1: going to be beloved for many reasons. But this team
- 2:26Speaker 1: really seemed to capture the imagination of baseball fans. Again,
- 2:39Speaker 1: not just in Milwaukee, but around the country.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Ken, it was so great to talk to Christian Yelich
- 2:43Speaker 3: before the World Series. He said, we are honestly all
- 2:46Speaker 3: best friends in that locker room, in that clubhouse, in
- 2:49Speaker 3: the dugout. We truly enjoy playing for each other and
- 2:52Speaker 3: for one another. And the fact that they did this
- 2:56Speaker 3: after 44 years, the last time they went to the
- 2:58Speaker 3: World Series, as you mentioned, they won it in 57
- 3:00Speaker 3: as the Milwaukee Braves. but never as the Milwaukee Brewers.
- 3:04Speaker 3: And to see the camaraderie, and I tell you what,
- 3:06Speaker 3: whether social media is anything of an indicator, I had
- 3:09Speaker 3: posted a couple of days ago on threads about, I've
- 3:12Speaker 3: had the privilege of covering this great game for two
- 3:14Speaker 3: plus decades. And if you're not a Milwaukee Brewers fan base,
- 3:17Speaker 3: or you're not in the race fan base, are you
- 3:19Speaker 3: interested in this World Series? If so, why and where
- 3:23Speaker 3: are you watching from? And Ken, the engagement on that
- 3:25Speaker 3: post was so unbelievably interesting because it was more response
- 3:29Speaker 3: than I had ever gotten before. And people were beloved
- 3:33Speaker 3: in terms of they just loved the World Series. Everybody
- 3:36Speaker 3: said the old style of baseball, bringing me back to
- 3:39Speaker 3: the way that it used to be played the right way,
- 3:41Speaker 3: those types of things. It was just really neat to
- 3:43Speaker 3: see not only just this country, but the world kind
- 3:47Speaker 3: of contributing to the. To the responses, there are only
- 3:50Speaker 3: four home runs in the World Series, which is crazy, right?
- 3:53Speaker 3: And you think that's the way that the game is going.
- 3:55Speaker 3: And I'm surprised, and I want to know your opinion, too.
- 3:58Speaker 3: The ratings were not particularly bad. We weren't sure what
- 4:01Speaker 3: we were going to get. It was actually very impressive.
- 4:04Speaker 1: No, you're right, Alana. And certainly working for Fox, I
- 4:08Speaker 1: am sure there was concern among our executives about what
- 4:10Speaker 1: the ratings might be. But you're right. They were not bad.
- 4:13Speaker 1: They were not at L.A.-Toronto level from last year, but
- 4:15Speaker 1: we didn't get seven games. And the Dodgers, the Dodgers,
- 4:18Speaker 1: star-driven and all that. But you see the numbers right
- 4:21Speaker 1: there from Richard Dyche. Those are, I would say, presentable,
- 4:25Speaker 1: respectable numbers. Now, game three was a blowout, so of
- 4:28Speaker 1: course that was going to be the low one. But
- 4:30Speaker 1: people did enjoy watching these teams play. And it raises
- 4:33Speaker 1: the question, honestly, if you're talking about an entertainment product,
- 4:38Speaker 1: which of course any sports league is, should more teams
- 4:41Speaker 1: adopt this style? Should we get away from three true
- 4:44Speaker 1: outcomes baseball and launch angle baseball and maybe get back
- 4:48Speaker 1: to some of this strictly from an entertainment standpoint? Now,
- 4:52Speaker 1: the answer to that is yes, but teams are going
- 4:54Speaker 1: to do what they feel is best to win. And
- 4:56Speaker 1: the Brewers pivoted in an offensive sense because in this
- 5:02Speaker 1: era of high velocity and spin, they felt they had
- 5:05Speaker 1: to not hit home runs the way other teams did
- 5:08Speaker 1: because they couldn't afford players who did that. They had
- 5:10Speaker 1: to win offensively in other ways. That's a simplified version
- 5:13Speaker 1: of what they've done. But they zigged when others zagged.
- 5:17Speaker 1: And it'll be interesting to see if other teams follow
- 5:20Speaker 1: suit now. And it's not just the Brewers. The Rays
- 5:23Speaker 1: really were the same kind of offense and same kind
- 5:25Speaker 1: of construction, same kind of team. So, yeah, it'll be
- 5:29Speaker 1: interesting going forward should we have a next season, whenever
- 5:32Speaker 1: baseball resumes. to see just the effect of this long-term
- 5:36Speaker 1: if teams do try to go back to more of
- 5:39Speaker 1: this style. Obviously, home runs win. We all know that.
- 5:43Speaker 1: You hit more home runs than the other team, yeah,
- 5:45Speaker 1: you're going to be in a really good spot. But
- 5:47Speaker 1: it's not so easy to hit home runs in this era,
- 5:49Speaker 1: and maybe then, in that sense, you change it up
- 5:53Speaker 1: a little bit.
- 5:53Speaker 5: This is the call of the Australian rubber bird.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Snap!
- 5:57Speaker 1: Snap!
- 5:59Speaker 5: This is the call of the Alaskan chili bird. And
- 6:06Speaker 5: this is the call of the marathon mascot bald eagle, Max.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Hi, it's Max. Hello.
- 6:11Speaker 5: Did you know you could save up to a dollar
- 6:13Speaker 5: a gallon with the Marathon Rewards app?
- 6:15Speaker 1: No.
- 6:16Speaker 5: Thanks for the call.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Marathon, where fun runs on full.
- 6:20Speaker 5: Available at participating marathon locations. Terms and conditions apply. See
- 6:22Speaker 5: MarathonRewards.com for details.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Ken, it's funny that you said they zigged when they
- 6:28Speaker 3: thought they should have zagged or vice versa. It's almost
- 6:31Speaker 3: like we kind of all did that, too, because we've
- 6:32Speaker 3: all been kind of critical of the Brewers. But, you know,
- 6:35Speaker 3: you've written about it at length and you kind of
- 6:38Speaker 3: finally gave up your words, not mine. What do you
- 6:40Speaker 3: mean by that?
- 6:41Speaker 1: Well, all right. I'm going to go back, Alana, to
- 6:44Speaker 1: the spring of 2025. And I had written at various
- 6:48Speaker 1: points before that about their trades of Josh Hader and
- 6:51Speaker 1: other things that they have done. And I was critical
- 6:55Speaker 1: of some of the things they did. And I was
- 6:56Speaker 1: critical of the owner, Mark Atanasio, for not spending. And
- 7:00Speaker 1: in the spring of 25, I wrote something along those lines.
- 7:03Speaker 1: You can see it right there. The Brewers, led by
- 7:06Speaker 1: owner Mark Atanasio, clamped down on spending and keep winning,
- 7:09Speaker 1: but for how long? And once again, I was asking, okay,
- 7:12Speaker 1: they've just made another trade of another veteran. Is this
- 7:15Speaker 1: going to be the end? Kept asking that for a
- 7:17Speaker 1: lot of years. And every year I was proven wrong.
- 7:20Speaker 1: So that July... The deadline's approaching. This is last year.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Brewers are hot. They're a really good team, one of
- 7:26Speaker 1: the best teams in the National League. And I wrote
- 7:28Speaker 1: saying that they should trade for Eugenio Suarez, who at
- 7:31Speaker 1: the time was in the middle of that great season. Ultimately,
- 7:34Speaker 1: he went to Seattle. So I eventually, in this column
- 7:39Speaker 1: that I wrote, it was kind of a notes column,
- 7:41Speaker 1: led off with basically a mea culpa. saying that Atanasio
- 7:45Speaker 1: obviously could be cackling right now at what he's seeing
- 7:49Speaker 1: because everything I've written has been proven to be wrong
- 7:52Speaker 1: regarding his team. Let's see if we have that. We
- 7:54Speaker 1: can show it right here. Maybe we don't have the
- 7:57Speaker 1: board that I was thinking of. But anyway, I essentially
- 8:00Speaker 1: wrote in spring, hey man, this is going to catch
- 8:03Speaker 1: up with them. They eventually did sign Jose Quintana and
- 8:06Speaker 1: he helped in that year. But then in July, when
- 8:09Speaker 1: I wrote they should get Suarez, I essentially said, hey,
- 8:12Speaker 1: why should Marc Atanasio listen to me? He obviously knows
- 8:15Speaker 1: what he's doing. And the point of my column after
- 8:17Speaker 1: the World Series, after the triumph was, hey, they have
- 8:21Speaker 1: done it their way. And their title, more than anything,
- 8:25Speaker 1: is a fitting outcome for a franchise that marches to
- 8:28Speaker 1: its own beat, effectively daring the rest of the industry
- 8:32Speaker 1: to match its verve and savvy. And the Brewers have,
- 8:35Speaker 1: in every sense of the way, done it in their
- 8:41Speaker 1: particular style. That's going to the ownership and the way
- 8:45Speaker 1: they've approached things, keeping the budgets relatively small. That speaks
- 8:48Speaker 1: to the front office in the efforts and the success
- 8:52Speaker 1: that they've had internationally in the draft, in trades. And
- 8:56Speaker 1: of course, it speaks to their style of play, which
- 8:58Speaker 1: was different. It was a way they adopted because they
- 9:01Speaker 1: felt it was the way they could best succeed. So
- 9:04Speaker 1: hats off to them. Because it's not just a triumph
- 9:07Speaker 1: of skill and heart and all of those things. It's
- 9:09Speaker 1: kind of a triumph of ingenuity and resourcefulness and all
- 9:13Speaker 1: of those qualities that they have shown in every aspect
- 9:17Speaker 1: of their operation. And I greatly admire them for it.
- 9:20Speaker 1: And I've already written my mea culpa, but I'll say
- 9:23Speaker 1: it once more. I was wrong. And they were right
- 9:26Speaker 1: for sticking to their philosophy, sticking to their beliefs, and
- 9:30Speaker 1: doing what they felt were the right things to do.
- 9:33Speaker 3: And Ken, sometimes we questioned, really, you're going to let
- 9:35Speaker 3: Craig Council go just down the road to the bigger market,
- 9:38Speaker 3: the Chicago Cubs? Obviously, I do not blame Craig Council
- 9:42Speaker 3: getting that deal, $ 8 million a year. Anybody is going
- 9:45Speaker 3: to take that. But then David Stearns goes to the
- 9:47Speaker 3: big market, right? Has all kinds of money with the
- 9:49Speaker 3: New York Mets. So Council's gone. Stearns is gone. And
- 9:53Speaker 3: then they win. What do you make of that?
- 9:55Speaker 1: Well, it speaks to their infrastructure and it speaks to
- 9:58Speaker 1: the people who remain, of course, Matt Armisen. and his
- 10:00Speaker 1: staff in the front office. And it speaks to Pat
- 10:03Speaker 1: Murphy and what he accomplished as manager. I don't know
- 10:05Speaker 1: that anyone expected he would be this successful a manager.
- 10:09Speaker 1: In fact, I'll tell you a story. At the GM
- 10:11Speaker 1: meetings in, let's see, 23 or 24, whenever Murphy got hired,
- 10:17Speaker 1: he was interviewing there. And I was speaking with the
- 10:20Speaker 1: writer from The Athletic and I said, hey, Murph's interviewing
- 10:23Speaker 1: for that Brewers job. I wonder if he'll get it.
- 10:25Speaker 1: And the writer said, there's no chance he gets that job.
- 10:27Speaker 1: No chance. Well, he got the job. Back-to-back manager of
- 10:31Speaker 1: the years. And now it's won a World Series. Could
- 10:35Speaker 1: win his third manager of the year, though I suspect
- 10:36Speaker 1: Walt Weiswold because it's going to be voter fatigue and
- 10:39Speaker 1: people are going to vote for Pat Murphy again. But
- 10:41Speaker 1: he's very deserving of that award. So they had great
- 10:46Speaker 1: people in place. They had structures in place, and they
- 10:49Speaker 1: were able to carry on without Stearns and without counsel.
- 10:52Speaker 1: What is equally impressive to me is Corbin Burns, Freddie Peralta,
- 10:58Speaker 1: Devin Williams, Josh Hader, all these pieces they kept taking off.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Willie Adamas left as a free agent, and yet they endured.
- 11:06Speaker 1: They got even better.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Yeah, Freddy Peralta on the other side. I felt badly
- 11:10Speaker 3: for him as he watched his former club that he
- 11:12Speaker 3: was traded away from take home the crown. Well, cheers
- 11:15Speaker 3: to the Brewers. Celebrate their historic title with the sweet
- 11:19Speaker 3: threads from FoulTerritoryShop.com. Shop, show, merch, and MLBPA license looks
- 11:25Speaker 3: of your favorite players dressed like a champ at FoulTerritoryShop.com.
- 11:37Speaker 3: It is time for the Inside Dish presented by Fox One.
- 11:41Speaker 3: A bit of an off-season primer for us. Ken Rosenthal,
- 11:44Speaker 3: yesterday I was like, oh my goodness, here we go.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Nate Eaton on the move already. The Boston Red Sox
- 11:49Speaker 3: making the first move of the off-season. Obviously that is
- 11:51Speaker 3: not a splash, but let's talk about the coaching jobs
- 11:54Speaker 3: available first. And it seems like one division in particular
- 11:57Speaker 3: has a lot of openings.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Well, yes, there are three managers still to be hired. Mariners, Astros,
- 12:03Speaker 1: and Angels. And I would expect the Mariners will be first.
- 12:06Speaker 1: But the Astros, they're going to pick their GM and
- 12:09Speaker 1: then they're going to obviously pick their manager after that.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And then the Angels are in the same position. They
- 12:13Speaker 1: need to pick a new head of baseball operations like
- 12:16Speaker 1: the Astros and then find a manager. So you can
- 12:19Speaker 1: see there the tweet from John Becker. He's mentioning all
- 12:21Speaker 1: the different coaching positions that are open as well. But
- 12:24Speaker 1: it starts with the head of baseball operations in certain
- 12:27Speaker 1: cases and then goes down to the managers and the
- 12:30Speaker 1: coaching staffs.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Should we expect a flurry of activity, Ken, between now
- 12:35Speaker 3: and midnight on December 2nd or December 1st? I believe
- 12:38Speaker 3: it's December 1st, right, when the lockout actually begins?
- 12:41Speaker 1: This is a great question, Alana. And Dan Shaughnessy of
- 12:44Speaker 1: the Boston Globe had an interesting point about the Red
- 12:47Speaker 1: Sox in particular this morning. But it applies to all teams.
- 12:51Speaker 1: And what Dan was saying is that he's betting that
- 12:53Speaker 1: the Red Sox will sit on the sidelines in November
- 12:55Speaker 1: waiting for the lockout to begin tomorrow. They explain to
- 12:57Speaker 1: their fans that their hands are tied because of the
- 12:59Speaker 1: work stoppage. It's perfect cover for doing nothing to add
- 13:03Speaker 1: to the payroll. A number of other teams might take
- 13:05Speaker 1: the same approach. They can easily say, we don't know
- 13:09Speaker 1: what economic system will be in place in the next CBA.
- 13:12Speaker 1: We don't know what we're dealing with, what the landscape
- 13:14Speaker 1: will look like. We're just going to wait. That's one
- 13:18Speaker 1: way to look at this. And yet the other way
- 13:21Speaker 1: is the economic landscape, let's say it includes a cap,
- 13:25Speaker 1: which is the extreme end of what the owners want
- 13:27Speaker 1: and might get. Well, it's not going to take effect
- 13:30Speaker 1: right away. So if you're a team trying to improve,
- 13:34Speaker 1: you're going to want to get players. And we saw
- 13:36Speaker 1: before the last lockout, there was a flurry of activity. Now,
- 13:39Speaker 1: there was no threat of a salary cap then. So
- 13:42Speaker 1: it's a little bit of a different environment. But I
- 13:45Speaker 1: do expect that we're going to have a busy November
- 13:48Speaker 1: as teams try to get players in place. There will
- 13:50Speaker 1: be teams saying and using the excuse, we're not so
- 13:54Speaker 1: sure how everything is going to look. But I expect
- 13:57Speaker 1: there will be other teams, probably a bigger number of
- 14:01Speaker 1: teams that are actively looking to improve.
- 14:04Speaker 3: There's a couple of guys, Ken, four, in fact, that
- 14:06Speaker 3: have already chosen to stay in in terms of opting
- 14:09Speaker 3: into their current contracts. I'll list the names for you.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Beau Bichette, Tatsuya Amai, Corbin Burns, and Ryan Helsley. No
- 14:15Speaker 3: big surprise on any of those?
- 14:17Speaker 1: Not at all. In Bichette's case, he's not coming off
- 14:20Speaker 1: a great year. Amai is not coming off a great year.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Bichette had a good second half and Obviously, he's a
- 14:25Speaker 1: really good player, but he's got a great contract. So
- 14:28Speaker 1: he's not opting out of that so quickly. Burns and Helsley,
- 14:31Speaker 1: injury-marred seasons, and they didn't produce the kinds of platforms
- 14:35Speaker 1: that they would like going back into the open market.
- 14:38Speaker 1: So no surprises on any of those.
- 14:41Speaker 5: All right.
- 14:41Speaker 3: So looking at the key free agents, the one that's
- 14:43Speaker 3: at the top of everybody's mind is obviously Tarek Skubal.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Besides Tarek Skubal, who should we be paying attention to?
- 14:50Speaker 3: Second part of the question, Ken, Freddy Peralta. Did he restore...
- 14:54Speaker 3: his pre-Mets value going into his age 31 season?
- 14:58Speaker 1: Alana, I think he's the most interesting one outside of
- 15:01Speaker 1: Scooble because certainly in Tampa Bay, he made a number
- 15:04Speaker 1: of adjustments and suddenly was not just fastball Freddie again,
- 15:09Speaker 1: but the best version of fastball Freddie, throwing harder than
- 15:12Speaker 1: he ever had before, incorporating his changeup to a greater
- 15:15Speaker 1: extent than he had, just looked like the best version
- 15:20Speaker 1: of himself He's entering his age 31 season. He's in
- 15:23Speaker 1: a really good spot. Now teams are going to say, well,
- 15:26Speaker 1: maybe it was just Tampa Bay that fixed them, but
- 15:28Speaker 1: all teams think they're smarter than the other ones. They
- 15:31Speaker 1: all think, yeah, we can do it with Freddie too.
- 15:33Speaker 1: So I would expect he does well. I would expect
- 15:35Speaker 1: Michael King entering his age 32 season does well. He's
- 15:38Speaker 1: had a little bit more of an injury history, but
- 15:41Speaker 1: he's still one of the top pitchers. Adrian Morejon, maybe
- 15:44Speaker 1: the top reliever available. Randy Rosarena, maybe the top hitter available.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I don't know if all of them go before December 1st,
- 15:51Speaker 1: but I would not be surprised, again, to see a flurry.
- 15:54Speaker 1: If you remember last time, again, referring back to 22,
- 15:58Speaker 1: Corey Seager and Marcus Simeon signed $ 500 million worth of
- 16:02Speaker 1: contracts with the Texas Rangers on the eve of the lockout.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Max Scherzer signed a big deal on the eve of
- 16:07Speaker 1: the lockout. There's going to be a number of things
- 16:10Speaker 1: that happen along those lines, I would think.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Yeah, say a Suzuki Jazz Chisholm Jr. on a one-year deal.
- 16:16Speaker 3: Teruaki Soto, Hanshin Tigers reportedly approving his post. He won
- 16:20Speaker 3: NPB's triple crown. That's another name to keep our eyes
- 16:24Speaker 3: on as well. The info there. College football and NFL

- 17:00Speaker 6: so many times, so many years. The green light will
- 17:03Speaker 6: let you know when it is time to go and
- 17:05Speaker 6: the best seats available. The red will let you know
- 17:07Speaker 6: if it's not the best. Crassie, tell them how easy
- 17:10Speaker 6: it is.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Todd, I know it's easy, but I'm looking for the
- 17:13Speaker 2: deals because that's what I do. Even so much, like
- 17:17Speaker 2: we're getting such a good deal. I want you to
- 17:19Speaker 2: come across the river. and we'll go to a Sixers
- 17:21Speaker 2: game together. I don't know where to sit in the stadium,
- 17:24Speaker 2: but it'll let me know that it's a perfect view
- 17:26Speaker 2: because I'm not a big NBA fan, but I gotta
- 17:29Speaker 2: go see the Sixers play with LeBron and the boys.
- 17:32Speaker 6: And of course I have a code for you all.
- 17:34Speaker 6: You can use code TERRITORY10 for 10% off your next
- 17:37Speaker 6: set of tickets at SeatGeek. That's 10% of all tickets
- 17:41Speaker 6: with promo code TERRITORY10. Make sure you click the link
- 17:44Speaker 6: in the description to download the app and have the
- 17:46Speaker 6: code automatically added to your account so you can use
- 17:49Speaker 6: it later.
- 17:55Speaker 3: All right, it is time now for our Grill and
- 17:57Speaker 3: Ken segment, where you have an opportunity to ask Ken
- 17:59Speaker 3: Rosenthal what is on your mind in the world of baseball.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Armand is amazing, our resident Met fan. Grill and Ken, Ken,
- 18:05Speaker 3: with the lack of Rays fans showing up at the
- 18:07Speaker 3: Trop during playoffs and the World Series, is there a
- 18:10Speaker 3: cause of concern that will happen when the Rays' new
- 18:14Speaker 3: stadium opens? Interesting question.
- 18:16Speaker 1: It's an interesting question, and I would say the answer
- 18:18Speaker 1: is no. I would say when the new stadium opens,
- 18:21Speaker 1: it will be in Tampa and not St. Petersburg. And
- 18:24Speaker 1: Tampa is more accessible to fans in a larger number
- 18:27Speaker 1: of regions in that area of Florida than the Trop is.
- 18:31Speaker 1: The Trop is just a difficult place to get to
- 18:33Speaker 1: for people from Tampa and Orlando, which is further east.
- 18:37Speaker 1: So that's going to be part of it that helps.
- 18:40Speaker 1: I don't know that the Trop itself is the problem
- 18:42Speaker 1: because it's what it is. It's a dome stadium. It's
- 18:45Speaker 1: not great, but it looked a lot better this year
- 18:48Speaker 1: after the redoing of the roof. It's really the location.
- 18:51Speaker 1: So yeah, That was disturbing, I would say, from the Rays'
- 18:55Speaker 1: perspective to see what happened there. That last game in particular,
- 18:58Speaker 1: it was just like a home game for the Brewers.
- 19:01Speaker 1: But at the same time, the new ballpark should help
- 19:03Speaker 1: a lot.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Milwaukee South, if you will. Jim Jim Huerta, another question
- 19:07Speaker 3: for you, Ken. I think there should be some conversation
- 19:10Speaker 3: about Craig Council. I don't believe they win if he stays.
- 19:13Speaker 3: There's something so endearing about Pat Murphy. It felt like
- 19:17Speaker 3: he was a missing piece.
- 19:20Speaker 1: I would agree that Murphy has.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Been transformative for that team. They were really good under council.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Let's not forget, they went to an NLCS under council
- 19:29Speaker 1: and they did some really good things. But Murphy has
- 19:32Speaker 1: set and established a standard that the players have to meet.
- 19:37Speaker 1: And he's also had two guys that I described as
- 19:39Speaker 1: his sergeants of arms, Christian Jelic and Brendan Woodruff, who
- 19:44Speaker 1: basically carry his message forward to the players. They named
- 19:47Speaker 1: Jelic the captain in part because he does that. And
- 19:51Speaker 1: we have seen what happens when Milwaukee Brewers players do
- 19:54Speaker 1: not do what Pat Murphy wants. They get chastised. They
- 19:58Speaker 1: get benched. They get criticized in other ways. So Murphy
- 20:03Speaker 1: has this bar that he keeps at a very high level.
- 20:06Speaker 1: And it's that whole win tonight thing. We are going
- 20:08Speaker 1: to do what we can. To win tonight in every
- 20:10Speaker 1: detail must be attended to. And certainly that has worked
- 20:14Speaker 1: well with this team. As I wrote in my World
- 20:17Speaker 1: Series wrap-up column, would it work in other cities, with
- 20:20Speaker 1: other veteran teams, in other markets? I don't know. But
- 20:24Speaker 1: it works in Milwaukee, and it's been great for that.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Yeah, Pat Murphy's incredible. Cooper Pratt gets called up in
- 20:28Speaker 3: the middle of the season. He doesn't run a ball out.
- 20:30Speaker 3: He gets benched, and then he ends up having an
- 20:32Speaker 3: unbelievable World Series. Pat Murphy is a great leader of men.
- 20:37Speaker 3: All right, thanks for the questions. We appreciate it. We're
- 20:39Speaker 3: going to be right back with our Dude of the Week.
- 20:42Speaker 1: I'm the dude, so that's what you call me.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Ken, this is a great segue. Who's your Dude of
- 20:51Speaker 3: the Week?
- 20:52Speaker 1: It happens to be Pat Murphy. Honestly, we could have
- 20:56Speaker 1: chosen any number of brewers. The Miz, who had a
- 20:59Speaker 1: 1.89 ERA in his four postseason starts and was brilliant
- 21:03Speaker 1: in the clincher. Cooper Pratt, what a series he had.
- 21:06Speaker 1: What a postseason he had. William Contreras, the season MVP.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Jackson Chirio, a star in the making, if not a
- 21:13Speaker 1: star already. But Murphy is the glue that brought this
- 21:17Speaker 1: all together. And he's a baseball lifer. He's a guy
- 21:20Speaker 1: who was a college coach. Tom Fiduci detailed his journey
- 21:23Speaker 1: on our broadcast. in game five so brilliantly and just
- 21:27Speaker 1: how far Murphy came to get to this moment. His
- 21:31Speaker 1: leadership was the single biggest reason, in my opinion, why
- 21:36Speaker 1: the Brewers attained what they did.
- 21:38Speaker 3: No doubt about it. I'm kind of with you on this.
- 21:41Speaker 3: You talk about Pat Murphy. I'm giving my dudes of
- 21:43Speaker 3: the week and dudettes of the week to the Brewers fans.
- 21:46Speaker 3: I understand it was very expensive because of the secondary
- 21:48Speaker 3: market to get into American family field. But the way
- 21:52Speaker 3: that they showed up in Tampa Bay, my goodness, it
- 21:55Speaker 3: was so unbelievably impressive to see all of the fans
- 21:59Speaker 3: in Tampa Bay. And not only that, selling out the
- 22:01Speaker 3: watch parties at American Family Field when the team was
- 22:04Speaker 3: on the road, 31,000 tickets sold in a matter of
- 22:07Speaker 3: moments at just 15 bucks a pop. I loved it.
- 22:10Speaker 3: This was a team, a fan base that was absolutely rabid.
- 22:13Speaker 3: living and dying on every single pitch. They showed up.
- 22:16Speaker 3: They showed out. The parade route today was incredible. Good
- 22:19Speaker 3: on them. Congratulations, Milwaukee. You deserve this wholeheartedly. And all
- 22:22Speaker 3: of the Miller-like hands at the Bob Uecker statue, you
- 22:25Speaker 3: know Uecker's excited about what this team has accomplished. All right,
- 22:28Speaker 3: coming back with our Dork of the Week. And who
- 22:37Speaker 3: do you have for your Dork of the Week?
- 22:39Speaker 1: All right, Alana, I'm going to keep it tight, and
- 22:41Speaker 1: I'm not going to get into much of an explanation,
- 22:44Speaker 1: but I'm just going to say this. My Dorks of
- 22:46Speaker 1: the Week are all the people who said a small
- 22:49Speaker 1: market team could not win the World Series. That's one
- 22:52Speaker 1: group of people. And all the people who said a
- 22:54Speaker 1: team that doesn't hit home runs can't win in the postseason.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Milwaukee Brewers defied all of these people who were questioning that,
- 23:02Speaker 1: and Again, as we enter the labor situation when we're
- 23:05Speaker 1: all going to have a lot more to say, I'll
- 23:07Speaker 1: just leave it at that.
- 23:08Speaker 3: Very good. A man of few words, but saying a
- 23:10Speaker 3: lot with those few. Mine are the Rays fans because
- 23:14Speaker 3: of the same reason I gave the dudes to the
- 23:16Speaker 3: Brewers fans. The Rays fans, you should not let an
- 23:20Speaker 3: opposition fan base go and take over your home park.
- 23:24Speaker 3: I understand maybe not traveling to Milwaukee. That I can
- 23:27Speaker 3: understand completely. But letting more than half of Tropicana Field
- 23:30Speaker 3: be the Brewers fans, that's very disappointing. And not only that,
- 23:34Speaker 3: the stuff that I saw on social media that, well,
- 23:37Speaker 3: at least, you know, you may have won the World Series,
- 23:38Speaker 3: but at least we don't live in Milwaukee. Milwaukee is
- 23:41Speaker 3: a fantastic city with a fantastic people with an unbelievable atmosphere.
- 23:47Speaker 3: And it's a very underrated city and a kind place
- 23:50Speaker 3: to be. So raise fans. Dorks of the week for me.
- 23:53Speaker 3: All right, guys, that's going to be it for us.
- 23:55Speaker 3: Foul territory is next. Todd Frazier, Eric Kratz, and Scott Braun.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Ken Rosenthal is going to be on foul as well.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Sahadev Sharma and Corey Knievel. I'm sure he's excited if
- 24:06Speaker 3: he's not at the parade right now. Ken is back
- 24:09Speaker 3: on Monday at 10 a.m. Eastern. Have a great weekend, everybody.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Bye.
