- 0:00What's up everyone, it's friendly.
- 0:03Thanks for joining me for another episode on the pod.
- 0:06Happy Friday. It is beautiful weather here in
- 0:10Dallas. You can definitely feel the
- 0:12Friday vibes and I think everyone is glad that it's the
- 0:16weekend. I personally AM and I hope that
- 0:19y'all are all in an awesome spot right now.
- 0:22We are going to be circling back to Matthew 24.
- 0:26Yesterday was our reminder not to let deception distract us or
- 0:31keep us from being on guard for Jesus's return and fully living
- 0:36out our purpose. Now today that will continue and
- 0:41we will see Jesus explaining what his return will look like
- 0:45with the reassurance that we will not be confused or unsure
- 0:48when it happens. And yes, we are seeing
- 0:51prophecies unfold in this very moment, which naturally can make
- 0:56us wonder how close we really are.
- 0:59But I do believe that there's a tension that we have to live in
- 1:03and address. Jesus is making His way, but we
- 1:07cannot let time passing by just make us sleepy.
- 1:11So let's go right into what Jesus says next.
- 1:15We're going to be in verses 26 through 35.
- 1:21So if anyone tells you there he is out in the wilderness, do not
- 1:25go out or here he is in the inner rooms.
- 1:29Do not believe it. For as lightning that comes from
- 1:33the east is visible even in the West, so will be the coming of
- 1:37the Son of Man. Wherever there is a carcass
- 1:41there, the vultures will gather. Immediately after the distress
- 1:46of those days, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not
- 1:49give its light. The stars will fall from the
- 1:52sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.
- 1:56Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven, and then
- 2:00all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son
- 2:03of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great
- 2:08glory. And He will send His angels with
- 2:11a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the
- 2:14four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
- 2:19Now learn this lesson from the fig tree.
- 2:22As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you
- 2:26know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these
- 2:30things, you know that it is near right at the door.
- 2:34Truly, I tell you, this generation will certainly not
- 2:38pass away until all these things have happened.
- 2:42Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass
- 2:46away. OK, so going into Jesus
- 2:51teaching, he uses several metaphors here that I want to
- 2:54break down for you all. First of all, we see an image of
- 2:58vultures circling a dead body. It says a carcass that is
- 3:03representing spiritual decay in a world that is marked by sin
- 3:09and disobedience and ultimately the rejection of God.
- 3:13So where the decay is obvious, judgement is coming and it is
- 3:17near. Then Jesus goes into the sun,
- 3:20moon, and stars going dark. Now, this isn't just astronomy.
- 3:25It's not just an image. It's actually a Hebrew metaphor.
- 3:29And we see this in several other scripture references like Joel 2
- 3:34and Isaiah. It means that earthly lights are
- 3:38being turned off. So think of earthly lights like
- 3:42the governments and human authority and other systems.
- 3:47All of it starts failing. And what replaces it?
- 3:52A new order is coming in a new glory.
- 3:55Heaven's light. And then Jesus coming on the
- 3:59clouds. I thought this was cool.
- 4:01Clouds represent God's presence with his people.
- 4:05And the trumpet blast. That is a universal PSA.
- 4:09Everyone will hear it, and we see that the response is divided
- 4:14because there will be mourning those who realize that it's too
- 4:17late and that they miss their chance.
- 4:20But there will also be rejoicing for the beloved ones, His elect,
- 4:25who waited and prepared and endured till that day.
- 4:30For them, every ounce of suffering will have been worth
- 4:33it. So that's why Jesus's return.
- 4:36It should produce eager expectation, not fear, anxiety.
- 4:41So don't lose heart. I want that to be an
- 4:43encouragement for y'all who are following Jesus today.
- 4:47Now we see in verse 35 it says that heaven and earth will pass
- 4:52away, but my words will never pass away.
- 4:56And that's kind of like a mic drop because it just ends there.
- 5:00But the reality is that everything fades except for His
- 5:04Word. And it's actually echoing
- 5:07Jesus's prayer in John 1717 when he asks the Father, sanctify
- 5:12them by the truth. Your word is truth.
- 5:16And why does this really matter? Well, strong believers will be
- 5:23tested in these end times. It doesn't matter how strong
- 5:27your faith is. You are going to experience all
- 5:31of the heaviness and the weight of what Jesus is saying.
- 5:34Paul warns us of this. First Corinthians 10/12 through
- 5:3713. If you think you are standing
- 5:40firm, be careful that you don't fall.
- 5:43No temptation is overtaking you except what is common to
- 5:48mankind. And here's the thing that I
- 5:50really want us to sit with for a SEC.
- 5:54Satan does not attack those who already belong to him.
- 5:58The people in this world, non believers who are not on God's
- 6:02team are not threatening his power.
- 6:05He attacks those who are challenging him.
- 6:08So I just want us to ask ourselves, are you threatening
- 6:12the enemy or are you an easy target?
- 6:17Because like I mentioned in last episode, Ephesians 612, we
- 6:22wrestle not against flesh and blood, not against each other,
- 6:25but against the spiritual forces of evil.
- 6:29So this isn't just about temptation.
- 6:32It's about allegiance. Who are we committed to and
- 6:36scripture is so, so clear. There is no middle ground.
- 6:41James 44. There can be divided loyalty
- 6:46because when we cozy up to the world's values and seek approval
- 6:50from man, we place ourselves at odds with God.
- 6:54AKA friendship with the world is not neutral.
- 6:58That's us actually choosing a side and moving forward.
- 7:03As I sat with this passage, the Lord actually brought me to a
- 7:07different angle. So I read those lines about the
- 7:11sun, moon, and stars. And to me, the Lord wasn't just
- 7:15speaking to the world. It spoke to more like the inner
- 7:19condition of our heart and our spiritual health.
- 7:22Because think about it, for light to actually matter and to
- 7:26be significant, the darkness must be acknowledged.
- 7:30Like we must have an awareness of the darkness because light is
- 7:33the absence of darkness. So if we plot, if we apply that
- 7:38inward into our hearts, some believers wonder why they feel
- 7:42distant from God or why their fire feels put out in kind of
- 7:48dim. But ask yourself, have you asked
- 7:52God to reveal the darkness that he has saved you from?
- 7:56Because it's possible that you've become desensitized in
- 8:00certain areas, that you have become desensitized to sin.
- 8:04And this is so dangerous. I don't think people talk about
- 8:08it enough because culture slowly blurs the truth.
- 8:13It clouds our vision. It fades our conviction.
- 8:17And before you know it, you are caught up in darkness all
- 8:20around. I fully believe that complacency
- 8:25is winning over so many Christians today, so many people
- 8:30that go to church and go to Bible study.
- 8:33Y'all complacency is stealing the intimacy with God and it's
- 8:37dulling the spirit of truth. I saw this quote from Francis
- 8:41Chan, who's an author and speaker.
- 8:44He said lukewarm people call radical what Jesus expected of
- 8:51all of his followers. Let me say that one more time.
- 8:54It is so powerful lukewarm people call radical what Jesus
- 8:59expected of all of his followers.
- 9:02So I just want to bring a few questions to you all right now.
- 9:06One, are you living lukewarm in any area of your life?
- 9:122. Are you being swayed by earthly
- 9:15lights like politics, relationships, pop culture,
- 9:20Hollywood 3 If Jesus returned today, would you be mourning or
- 9:28would you be rejoicing and running into the arms of your
- 9:31Savior unashamed, knowing that you have lived for him and gone
- 9:35all out for him? Because God's Word is clear, it
- 9:40has been fulfilled. It has been sustained.
- 9:43Y'all, Jesus is making his way. Are you preparing by living all
- 9:50in or are you halfway in? So as we consider these things,
- 9:55I'm going to go ahead and close this out in prayer.
- 9:59Dear Jesus, we thank you for truth, Your words that never
- 10:06fade. They are consistent and they are
- 10:12so powerful and meaningful. God, would you bring to light
- 10:18and reveal any darkness in our lives, in our hearts that we've
- 10:22grown comfortable with? Would you wake us up where we
- 10:26have become numb or complacent? Father, help us to live ready,
- 10:32faithful, and undivided. We want to rejoice at your
- 10:38return. We want to just run freely into
- 10:41your arms knowing that we gave you our everything.
- 10:46We love you. We are here to serve You, and we
- 10:50eagerly await your return. Prepare us, Lord, as an
- 10:55undefiled bride ready for their bridegroom.
- 11:00We praise you and we ask this all in your name, Jesus.
- 11:02Amen. OK, well that is all I have for
- 11:06you guys today, and I just hope that you'll have an awesome
- 11:10weekend and that you can continue going to the Lord and
- 11:14prayer, seeking Him out in His Word, and growing in a personal
- 11:18relationship with Him. I'll talk to you all soon.
