- 0:00Very broadcast radio, the station that's giving veterans a
- 0:03voice find us on the. Web at MB radio dot.
- 0:09Think of all that time, every wait in the winter, all those
- 0:15hours no one else. Think of all that time.
- 0:18Think of every sacrifice in the summer, every wait in the
- 0:22mornings on the levee, late nights in the film, bus rides to
- 0:26playoff games, every bump in the road, every moment of ecstasy,
- 0:35every moment of doubt, years wondering, is it all worth it?
- 0:46It's all led to this. It's a 60 minute drive for a 60
- 0:54minute game. After all the miles we've
- 0:58traveled, we're almost there. After all the hours we've
- 1:03worked, one more can make us legends.
- 1:08After all that time, this is our time.
- 2:02That's not a football now. 2, Tigers 11123.
- 2:13Opinions expressed in this program are those of the
- 2:15speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views or positions
- 2:20of any entities they represent. Here we go all right, what's up
- 3:29everyone, welcome into inside the Who's Your mind, brought to
- 3:31you in part by military broadcast radio, helping give
- 3:33veterans a voice, helping teach veterans on a podcast, and most
- 3:35importantly, letting veterans voices be heard.
- 3:38Having a little bit of technical difficulties.
- 3:40My Internet sucks. I'm going to be the 1st to 1st
- 3:42to formally admit that with no issues.
- 3:46But we are back to discuss a little bit about about the NBA
- 3:49playoffs and whatnot. We've had a little bit of
- 3:51shockers with LeBron and Luka Doncic's both getting the boot
- 3:54with the Lakers. As Karl Anthony Towns kind of
- 3:57symbolizes, it's it's his NBA. Now the Pacers of course get an
- 4:01upset over the Cavs and whatnot, but believe it or not, the NBA
- 4:04is not my strongest suit when it comes to talking about it.
- 4:08So I luckily have a partner in crime that's going to be joining
- 4:11me on the show today. This will be first time in a
- 4:13long time he's been on this show.
- 4:15Gentlemen by the name Jay, he's actually president and owner of
- 4:19the All Sports, All Plays Network, which I was a part of
- 4:23for a really long time. Still work with pretty closely
- 4:25with Jay. He was actually on last week.
- 4:28He kind of came on last second because we had a little bit of a
- 4:31ASAP reunion with with our show with Mike and whatnot.
- 4:35But we'll go ahead and bring him in because Jay is actually poor.
- 4:40Jay is a Suns fan and his sons had a rough season this season
- 4:46and whatnot. So we will bring him in and
- 4:50we'll talk some NBA, we'll talk some NFL draft and whatnot.
- 4:56The interview of the week is brought to you by Jersey Mike's,
- 5:01a sub above. What up Jay?
- 5:05How are you, good Sir? What's going on, Tony?
- 5:09How you doing man? Good.
- 5:10How are you? Wait a minute, wait a minute.
- 5:11I I hear I hype you up as a Suns fan.
- 5:13You got bulls head on. What?
- 5:14What did you change? Allegiances.
- 5:17I did not. I just had to show a little bit
- 5:18of love, Mike, you know? OK.
- 5:20I say you're gonna make Mike so happy.
- 5:22Although Mike has kind of questioned his his Bulls fan
- 5:25over here lately. You know he has, you know, hey,
- 5:28but you know, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm hoping, I'm hoping for both of
- 5:33our sake next year we can wear these hats and have playoff
- 5:38teams. Hopefully, hopefully they say
- 5:40before before we get too deep into the into the NBA playoffs
- 5:44and what not so far, 'cause they've been pretty interesting.
- 5:46I mean, we've only really had one series kind of cut it close
- 5:49with the Warriors and the Rockets and whatnot.
- 5:52Obviously that just took place a couple nights ago.
- 5:56Honestly, it looked like Steph Curry was shut down pretty,
- 5:58pretty effectively, but for whatever reason, the Rockets
- 6:00could not get it together And you know, Steph and the Warriors
- 6:03and what not show that they're still to do it.
- 6:07What, what was kind of your thoughts initially though about
- 6:09the Suns not making it 'cause I mean, realistically on paper,
- 6:14you got all the talent, you got KD, you got Devin Booker, you've
- 6:17got Bradley Beal. Like you got, you got 3 All
- 6:22Stars. Like yes.
- 6:23But you know, I think what a lot of people, a lot of NBA fans and
- 6:27myself included, cause again, I, I don't really watch the NBA.
- 6:30I'm looking at them like man, y'all probably don't have much
- 6:32depth left on that roster, which which to me, I feel like it's
- 6:36probably what hurts y'all more than anything.
- 6:37Yeah, you can have three stars, but it's hard to keep all of
- 6:40them out there for that long for like 82 games this season.
- 6:44Well, it's, it's one of those personnel things.
- 6:47It wasn't, it wasn't necessarily depth.
- 6:51It wasn't necessarily that we didn't have other players
- 6:55because we had Grayson Allen, we had Royce O'Neill, You have
- 6:59Titus Jones, Ryan Dunn, which was one of the breakout rookies
- 7:03of this year. You, you had also Ichero,
- 7:07another breakout dude, big man, we went and got a nickels for
- 7:12Nurkic. So it wasn't necessarily depth
- 7:18or anything like that. What it was was it's like this,
- 7:22you go in the kitchen, you go in the cupboard and you grab flour,
- 7:26you grab sugar, you grab hot sauce, you grab all these
- 7:28ingredients and throw it in a bucket.
- 7:30It's going to taste like shit because.
- 7:33You don't have the. Right personnel.
- 7:35I thought you're making, like, a marinade.
- 7:36I was like, OK, sugar, a little bit of sweetness, hot sauce.
- 7:39Like, OK, You doing like, some type of breading?
- 7:40Like, OK, OK. I mean, you can make it work.
- 7:43What? You try to go after right, you
- 7:46know, and I, I, I think that was more of it.
- 7:49It was the, it was the wrong ingredients in the pot together
- 7:54for what we were trying to do and see.
- 7:57And if you look at the two years, I'm gonna put it in the
- 7:59in the the last two year window. Fuck it, we'll go 3.
- 8:05You went from Frank Vogel, who just came out of winning the NBA
- 8:09championship. Defensive minded wasn't doing
- 8:13much on the offensive end. They were upset about that.
- 8:16We get rid of him, we come in. I forgot who we who was our one
- 8:20last year we had they. Say it was it was another big
- 8:24name. It wasn't.
- 8:26Fuck, why can't I get his name off the top of my head?
- 8:29I'm going to have to look it up, damn it.
- 8:39Phoenix coaches Monty Williams. Monty was before Frank.
- 8:47I thought we had one more after Frank, before Mike Bullhouser.
- 8:51Bullhouser. But the point is then you bring
- 8:55in Mike, who if you, if you ask me before we signed him, I'm
- 9:00like, why are we bringing in Mike?
- 9:02We get rid of Frank, who's a defensive minded coach.
- 9:04And the reason why we get rid of Frank is because we weren't
- 9:07utilizing Kevin Durant to his full potential in the offense.
- 9:12We bring in Buttho Butthouser. And let's be honest with
- 9:16Giannis. He didn't fucking have to do
- 9:18much on the offense in excuse my French.
- 9:20He let he he let them go out there.
- 9:22And then you had Drew Holiday, who's on the floor coach.
- 9:29You got Drew and you got Giannis on the offensive end.
- 9:32So you're not doing much coaching.
- 9:33The only thing you're doing is making defensive adjustments.
- 9:36Right. So you bring him in and and
- 9:39again you're stuck in the same situation.
- 9:42So you had Bonnie, you had Frank, then you had Mike
- 9:45Budenholzer. So your money, Frank, and then
- 9:48Mike. Yeah, Yep.
- 9:50OK, so money, Frank and Mike. So yeah.
- 9:52And, and out of those three, money would have probably been
- 9:55the best for offensively so. And he'd been there for a while,
- 10:01too. And I think a lot of that was
- 10:04just Ishvia coming in and saying I want out with the old and with
- 10:07the new. Right, right.
- 10:09Well, that's kind of the crazy part too 'cause you look at it
- 10:12and again, I'm looking at it from kind of an outside
- 10:14perspective. And I would say this for really
- 10:16any sport, not even just basketball.
- 10:18Like Monty was there from 2019 to 2023.
- 10:21Like you gave him enough time. Like, OK, I can, I can build a
- 10:25culture. I can pick the guys that I want.
- 10:27I can get guys in the locker room that I feel can be bought
- 10:29into the system and he can actually build something while
- 10:33he's there. To me, when I when I heard about
- 10:37the Frank Vogelhire, I was like, OK, you got to think about where
- 10:40Frank really got like his money from.
- 10:42Like you got you got LeBron when it was still, you know, LeBron
- 10:47was still kind of at, I'm not going to say the peak of his
- 10:49career, but kind of towards the end of his prime, like he still
- 10:51had a lot in him. You get AD on top of it, which
- 10:55was a huge blockbuster deal. And then you have just enough
- 10:58other pieces there on that rock that Lakers roster be able to
- 11:01make it work. Plus, you know, the whole COVID
- 11:03thing, which is, you know, obviously a lot of people put
- 11:05the asterisk on it because they got the break and then they came
- 11:07back, but they came back just as hot as they did when they left.
- 11:11So, you know, he kind of gets that.
- 11:13He gets his championship. And then after that, everything
- 11:15goes to crap for the Lakers because eventually, like every
- 11:18team that it happens to you when you go all in, eventually it's
- 11:23going to come. You're going to have to pay dues
- 11:24of now you don't have the depth that you have.
- 11:27You don't have the draft picks, you don't have the salary cap.
- 11:29You're not able to maneuver stuff like you did.
- 11:31You got your ring, which is what you wanted, which is the goal.
- 11:34But now you now it's come up. And so as far as what you know,
- 11:37what you have to owe. So to me is like, I get it.
- 11:41He's a championship winning head coach.
- 11:43He knows how to do it. It's also one of those it's kind
- 11:47of like Mike McCarthy with the whole Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay
- 11:49situation. It's hard for you to not be
- 11:51successful when you have a quarterback of that talent in
- 11:55your prime. Look at Bill Belichick with Tom
- 11:56Brady. Bill hasn't been the same coach.
- 11:59He wasn't that type of coach, you know, pre Tom Brady.
- 12:02He hasn't been that coach post Tom Brady.
- 12:05So I mean that that one player. And for Frank's, you know,
- 12:07Frank's instance, it's you know, LeBron, he comes to Arizona.
- 12:13I'm not saying KD can't be that guy, but to me, KD is one of
- 12:18those. You look at how he won his
- 12:20championship with the Warriors, like the Warriors already had
- 12:23their system set and locked in. And I think for even for KD and
- 12:28I think for a lot of these players, it's hard for you to
- 12:31build that roster of, OK, this guy is talented.
- 12:34And like you said, it's a personnel match up.
- 12:36You can put, like you said, for the kitchen, you can put flour,
- 12:40you can put hot sauce, you can put all this stuff.
- 12:41And on paper it's like, OK, this should work until you do it.
- 12:46And it's like, wait a minute, I don't care how this guy work.
- 12:48I don't like how this guy works. This guy doesn't do stuff the
- 12:51way that I'd want him to. And, and again, when you have 3
- 12:54superstar caliber guys, it's let's be realistic.
- 12:57You take you separate all three of those guys, all three of them
- 13:01are probably going to be the ones on a roster somewhere.
- 13:04Like to to me. You, you see, you're hitting all
- 13:08the nails in the coffin. The thing that I think that we
- 13:13we missed the boat on as as the Suns with the roster was when
- 13:20you look at the like championship teams or even even
- 13:24right now currently in the playoffs, you look at you look
- 13:28at the Nuggets, the Nuggets have a superb superstar in Jokic.
- 13:33Yep. But they have a very, very good
- 13:36floor general in Jamal Murray. You look at La when they won,
- 13:44you had that that super low pros presence on on on both sides of
- 13:49the ball with Anthony Davis. But again, you had a floor
- 13:54general with a great ball handling mine in LeBron James.
- 14:01What the Sun's issue was is our superstars that we picked up at
- 14:07all very similar styles of play. Right.
- 14:12So who's the leader in that case?
- 14:15Yeah. See if you look at.
- 14:18Sorry, I was saying it and it can't be a leadership by like
- 14:20committee thing too 'cause then that cause again, that's where
- 14:23it gets that's where it gets weird because OK, who do we who
- 14:26do we follow if someone tells me to do something like if.
- 14:28Wasn't that Lebron's and Kyrie's issue in Cleveland?
- 14:32Yeah. Who's supposed to take the last
- 14:34shot? Who's supposed to?
- 14:35And that ended up dividing them. Imagine how many how many
- 14:39freaking NBA championships they could have won.
- 14:42Yeah, 100%. Think about how differently the
- 14:45the whole entire future and makeup of Cleveland would have
- 14:48been had they had they been able to get along a lot better.
- 14:51I mean, you look at Boston. Boston was at a pivotal, pivotal
- 14:56point about four or five years ago with the whole Jaylen Brown
- 14:59and Tatum thing, and it got silenced because they accepted
- 15:02Tatum as the number one. Yep.
- 15:06So even. Though even though it's funny,
- 15:07when they won their championship last year you could honestly
- 15:10argue Jaylen Brown was more the leader Jason Tatum was.
- 15:14But they were able to. So like New York right now, New
- 15:19York right now is a very good example of how to utilize stars.
- 15:22Yeah. They they went out and got Karl
- 15:25Anthony on a team that was pretty well-rounded.
- 15:29So now they say, all right, Jalen, you're probably the one
- 15:32of the best closers in the game. We want you to do that.
- 15:36Yeah. Don't worry about everything
- 15:38else. Let let OG, let Miles, let Carl,
- 15:43let let these other guys, Josh Hart, let these other guys eat.
- 15:49Have a couple points here and there.
- 15:50Stay in the game, keep your rhythm going.
- 15:53When it's fourth quarter, you get the.
- 15:55Ball right? And, and, and, and that's a way
- 15:59to see we had to figure out and there was no coaching on
- 16:03offense. There was no coaching on offense
- 16:05these last two years that I see. Right.
- 16:08You know, we would have. It should have been.
- 16:10Hey, Booker Carrier score 30 points through 3/4.
- 16:15Kevin Durant close score 20 points in the fourth.
- 16:19Yeah, there we go. Now, Bradley Bill's not an
- 16:23issue. Right.
- 16:27No, I, I definitely get it. We are going to take a real
- 16:30quick commercial break when we come back.
- 16:31We'll we'll, we'll actually dive deeper into the NBA playoffs as
- 16:35as Jay was talking about. We'll dive in, see, see what
- 16:38Jay's thoughts is as far as the most interesting ones.
- 16:39We've had a little bit of upsets and surprises so far within the
- 16:43first round of the semi finals as we move on to the conference
- 16:46finals and whatnot. But we'll take a quick
- 16:48commercial break and when we come back.
- 16:51Tune into Clado's cacophony of sound every Saturday night from
- 16:559:00 PM to 12:00 AM Eastern on military broadcast radio at MB
- 17:01Radio dot US or on Twitch at DJ under score.
- 17:05Clado MBR giving veterans a voice.
- 17:24All right, we are back to military broadcast radio and
- 17:27Inside the Hoosier Mind brought to you in part by MBR Helping
- 17:29Give Veterans Voice back with Jay to talk a little bit about
- 17:32the NBA playoffs and whatnot. So Jay, we like I said, we had a
- 17:35little bit of some upsets and whatnot.
- 17:37Obviously, the Grizzlies got absolutely swept by the Thunder.
- 17:41Surprisingly enough, the Nuggets and the Clippers actually went
- 17:44down to a pretty interesting series.
- 17:45Nuggets end up pulling away with a win on that one.
- 17:48The Timberwolves and Ant Man absolutely dominate LeBron and
- 17:52Luca, which is probably the most surprising things that they not
- 17:55only won, they dominated in their wins against them.
- 17:58And obviously the Rockets and Warriors came down to a four
- 18:01three stretch. The warriors kind of proving
- 18:03that that playoff experience is still helping them.
- 18:07But even even the last couple days we've had a lot of upsets.
- 18:09You know, the the Nuggets end up actually getting a win over the
- 18:12Thunder in OK C The Pacers end up stealing a win against the
- 18:17Cavaliers and the Knicks, probably the biggest surprise,
- 18:21get a win over the Boston Celtics.
- 18:23And then tonight we have the Timberwolves and the Warriors
- 18:26playing as well as the Cavaliers and Pacers will play Game 2.
- 18:30So we get the first game of that Timberwolves and Warriors
- 18:33series. Jay, what?
- 18:35What's probably been the biggest surprise to you so far out of
- 18:39this? The timber?
- 18:43Are you talking about just the Timberwolves warrior situation?
- 18:45Now the the whole the whole thing.
- 18:47If it can, it could be either one.
- 18:49You know, even though the Clippers lost, the Clippers
- 18:53played extremely well. Extremely well, to the point
- 18:59that Denver is battle tested after that first round.
- 19:05I think out of all of them, they're probably the most battle
- 19:09tested. I don't.
- 19:10I don't. I think Golden State.
- 19:14Golden State being a 7 is crazy. That's crazy.
- 19:20Well, it's even crazier the fact that the like the two, at least
- 19:23in the West, you've got the one seed and the four seed and the
- 19:26Thunder and Nuggets playing, which it's like, OK, that that's
- 19:29you know, a little bit to be expected.
- 19:31The fact that on the other end you have the 6th and the 7th
- 19:33seed playing each other, in the next one the second and the
- 19:36third seed are both eliminated. It is also kind of crazy to me
- 19:40because it's like wait a minute, the the 2 lower seeds in the
- 19:43West are doing better than than the two higher, You know, two of
- 19:47the higher seeds. Well, I was talking about this
- 19:50all year and and This is why I wasn't surprised the Suns didn't
- 19:54make the play offs. The West was separated by like 2
- 19:58games. The whole final stretch, the
- 20:01whole final stretch. And let's look at the, if you
- 20:04look at the one through 8 and you say, well, what changed at
- 20:09the end? The Lakers got Luca, they moved
- 20:12up to third. Is that a true 3rd place?
- 20:15I don't think so. You just now you 'cause you got
- 20:18to think of it two different ways.
- 20:20Yeah, they got to become familiar with each other.
- 20:24But we're talking about Luka Donkic and we're talking about
- 20:26LeBron James. Great.
- 20:29They're going to figure it out pretty quick even if they're not
- 20:32used to each other. But on the other end, to play
- 20:34defense on Luka and LeBron, it's going to take you a lot longer
- 20:38to figure that out than it is for them to figure out how to
- 20:40score. So you're going to win a couple
- 20:43of extra games there that you may have not won if there was
- 20:47already tape and familiarity on the defenders end.
- 20:50So I don't believe that as a true 3rd place team, I think
- 20:54they would have, they should be like 6 or 7.
- 20:57So that makes sense. The Warriors, the Warriors fell
- 21:01off that that three weeks before they made that Jimmy Butler
- 21:05trade. It was rough for them rough.
- 21:09And then the Jimmy Butler came and they had a a decent ending
- 21:14which kept them in there. But so, I don't know, man, I
- 21:19think it it it's going to backfire for the teams like the
- 21:21Thunder and we're already seeing it backfired for the Lakers.
- 21:26Yeah, say for for you, and I mean, I know it's been a topic
- 21:31for probably years now, ever since honestly, probably ever
- 21:36since they won that last championship.
- 21:39Do you think after this season, depending on if the Warriors can
- 21:42make, I'm not going to say a deeper playoff run, but at least
- 21:46keep the series close with the Timberwolves.
- 21:48Say they, you know, say they take it to a Game 7 or say, you
- 21:51know, it's like a, you know, they start down to, but then
- 21:54they fight back 2 and then maybe they, they end up losing it, you
- 21:57know, 4-2. If they if they keep it close,
- 22:01do you think that will officially mark the end of the
- 22:04dynasty? Because I mean, they, they
- 22:05already got rid of Clay. You know, Clay's gone.
- 22:08You still got Steph and you still got Draymond.
- 22:10Draymond's had issues for forever, but it seems like it's
- 22:14really been highlighted the last, what, three years or so.
- 22:18And then, you know, Jimmy Butler, the whole drama with
- 22:20that. He's getting older.
- 22:22He'd still perform really well, but he's getting older.
- 22:25And at what point does Jimmy say, OK, now I, you know, now I
- 22:28won at a Golden State, you know, do you, do you think that
- 22:31dynasty in the Warriors time is is starting to come to an end?
- 22:36No, no, I think they, I think they extended their window an
- 22:40extra two to three years by picking up Jimmy Butler.
- 22:46I think that Clay was Clay's on the down downhill and Jimmy is
- 22:54still kind of right here. I don't think he's hit his
- 22:59decline yet and that has a lot to do with with playoff Jimmy
- 23:03and his heart. Any time that you can still up
- 23:07your performance, this count this this many levels just
- 23:10because it's playoff time, right, bro?
- 23:14So now see, the the thing about Golden State, and this is
- 23:20something that a lot of these other teams gotta look at Golden
- 23:25State drafts really fucking well.
- 23:27Yeah, really freaking well, bro, really well.
- 23:31So they didn't picked up that the big man, you know, they
- 23:35didn't picked up. Oh, boy.
- 23:36Nick, what's his name? The shooter.
- 23:41Aw, forget his name. What's his name?
- 23:48So I'm trying to pull it up. My Internet just hates me.
- 23:53I want to pull. I got to pull it up too, but
- 23:56Psis, Psowski, Polski, Pulaski, he's really good.
- 24:02Let. Me say, of course about the time
- 24:08I of course about the time I pull it up on my it comes up.
- 24:14Yeah, it'll, it'll come up on my computer.
- 24:16So Brandon Pudzinski, he's really good.
- 24:20You still got Moses Moody. You know, Trace Jackson Davis,
- 24:26he's really good. If I say I remember watching him
- 24:29IU, not last year but year before last, he was.
- 24:33He was solid for IU. He helped keep them, keep them
- 24:35in contention for a long time. A long time, you know, And then
- 24:39you picked up Buddy Hill. You still got Kamung Kaminga, so
- 24:43you got guys that cause the thing about Steph, unlike
- 24:47LeBron, unlike some of the other guys, Kevin, the Steph is a
- 24:52shooter shooter. Steph doesn't need to drive to
- 24:55the hole if you don't want to. Steph doesn't and he can dribble
- 24:58really well. So Steph could still play for
- 25:00another five years, right, If you really want to put it down.
- 25:04And then with guys like Kaminga and Moody and, you know, Jackson
- 25:10Davis, these youngsters, Buddy Hill's still there.
- 25:13So their window can kind of linger for another three, I
- 25:20think 3 solid years if you keep Jimmy there.
- 25:23And Draymond's a question mark. Yeah, as I say, I, I feel like
- 25:30out of the out of the big three that are there, I to me, I feel
- 25:34like, I feel like Draymond's the next to go.
- 25:38Like to me, I feel like because Steph has been there for so
- 25:41long, because Steph has been there with them through the good
- 25:44times, through the bad, through all of it.
- 25:46It to me, it's kind of Steph's decision when he wants to leave.
- 25:51I feel like and I, yeah, and I don't, I don't see Steph leaving
- 25:54for anything. I mean, you realistically, you
- 25:56look at it, Steph's got four rings.
- 25:59You know, he's he's tied with LeBron.
- 26:01You know, he's a part of one of the one of the greatest
- 26:03dynasties we've seen as far as the NBA goes.
- 26:05He's he's beaten LeBron multiple times head to head.
- 26:08So he's got that over him when it comes to like championships
- 26:12and when it matters most. So really for Steph, not a whole
- 26:15lot more you have to do for your, you know, your legacy or
- 26:17your career as far as cementing that you're one of the best
- 26:21players or one of the best warriors.
- 26:22And like you said, when it comes to perimeter shooting, you know
- 26:25if you need a three shot at the last part of the game to
- 26:28potentially win it, Steph 9 times out of 10 is probably
- 26:31going to be the man to go do it. The only thing that I could see
- 26:38is if Steph wanted to beat him in longevity.
- 26:43Oh, OK, because I mean, he could still do that with Golden State.
- 26:49Yeah, no, because bro, Steph is not LeBron.
- 26:54He's not Kobe, he's not Jordan, he's not Shaq.
- 26:58None of the he's not going to have the wear and tear on his
- 27:01knees, his back and he is as these other guys that we just
- 27:06talked about. I mean, you think about Vince
- 27:08Carter. Vince Carter had he he went
- 27:11through a time period of some decent sized or some real
- 27:15injuries. Hey, hey, I appreciate I.
- 27:21Appreciate that, MJ Yeah, MJ. Petition.
- 27:25Yeah, MMJ knows me because I I typically pull all the stats out
- 27:29whenever it comes, like the NFL and in my in my takes and
- 27:33whatnot. I appreciate that.
- 27:34MJ is actually a huge Penn State fan.
- 27:36So usually she comments saying the whole we are but I
- 27:40appreciate MJ tuning in. Real quick MJ, was Abdul Carter
- 27:44justified for asking for those two retired numbers?
- 27:48I know he'd asked for Lawrence Taylor's 50, which I'm going to
- 27:51be honest, don't know if you were able to ask Lt. for the
- 27:55number. Phil Sims.
- 27:57Phil Sims. I'm like, OK, you could maybe
- 28:00ask Phil now. And and his defense.
- 28:03Phil did say yes. Phil's family outvoted him and
- 28:07said no. To in the defense of asking for
- 28:16for for Phil's. So you think he was justified?
- 28:20OK, OK. In the defense of asking for
- 28:23Phil's, not many people know who Phil is, and I feel bad for Phil
- 28:27because he's a legend. Well, it's really bad.
- 28:29I think. I think it's hurts too, because
- 28:31he's no longer like the the color commentator where Tony
- 28:35Romo is because it hit that was him and Jim Nance forever.
- 28:38And then I remember, I remember, you know, he he got in some
- 28:41trouble. He said something I can't
- 28:42remember what he said that kind of got him in trouble with CBS.
- 28:45And so they were like, it's time for you to move in studio,
- 28:47buddy. Here's here's Tony Romo and and
- 28:51she does have a point. If you don't ask, you never
- 28:53know. I I was, I was always raised a
- 28:56closed mouth doesn't get dunked. I mean it it it, it done hurt to
- 29:00ask just to see. I just stated Lawrence Taylor
- 29:04when I was a little. Yeah, like I said, LTI don't
- 29:07know about Lt. You can't you can't be you can't
- 29:10be asking one of the greatest, one of the greatest of all time
- 29:13when it comes to, you know, not just Giants, but NFL history be
- 29:17like, hey, brother, can you you under?
- 29:18Time come up off that for me. Like, like, look, man, if if
- 29:23you're four years in, if you're in your first part of the
- 29:26contract and you just absolutely dominate, like you're, you know,
- 29:30sack leader four years in a row, then you can go to Lt. and be
- 29:33like, hey, man, I'm a, I'm producing what he should have.
- 29:36Done what he should have done, was played, paid homage and took
- 29:4065. Right, right.
- 29:43I don't. I don't know if I've ever seen
- 29:45linebacker wear 65 to be honest with you.
- 29:47But hey, I mean, cause 'cause that's what you're saying.
- 29:51You're saying that you're about to be so so.
- 29:56Great. Yeah, so good not.
- 29:58Good, not good 'cause you asked Lt. to on retire.
- 30:02You're about to be so great that this number is gonna be iconic
- 30:08again. That's what you're saying.
- 30:10Yeah, here. So here's the other thing I
- 30:12would say too, because I remember this comment has been
- 30:16brought up whenever I've seen a lot of people when they talk
- 30:18about when you do like numbers one through 100 as far as like
- 30:23any sports goes, like who do you think of when you see this
- 30:26number? Like whenever you see the number
- 30:27one, like who do you think of? Is it, you know, Warren Moon?
- 30:30If you see #2 do you think of yo, Matt Ryan, three Russ for
- 30:35Brett Favre, you know, all you know, if you think of #6 you
- 30:37know, do you think of LeBron James or like he wears 23?
- 30:40Well, the most famous 23 most people are probably going to
- 30:43know is Michael Jordan. Like depending on like, so to
- 30:46me, if I'm Abdul, make it like, I get it. 11 was your number in
- 30:50college. Yeah, maybe you want to pay
- 30:52homage to Lt. Maybe you were 65.
- 30:55Like find your own number and become you.
- 30:58Like you got to think about it. Like when Lt. got 56, it was
- 31:01like, OK, this is my number. Like I'm just going to do what I
- 31:03got to do with it. Like, like make yourself like
- 31:05make your own name. Don't don't try to piggyback off
- 31:08of somebody else's success like because if you were 56 and then
- 31:11you're a bust one, that's disrespectful to Lt.
- 31:15'cause it's like, all right, you kind of ruined L TS legacy of
- 31:17what he did to build that number up.
- 31:19And again, two, unless you truly believe in yourself that much,
- 31:24which I'm not going to, you know, I'm not going to shame on
- 31:27you if you do, But you got to look at a lot of the guys
- 31:30nowadays. How many times are we seeing
- 31:32records broken from guys that, you know, played for years or
- 31:36played for a long time now, like Tom Brady did it, Drew Brees did
- 31:41it, Peyton Manning did it. But you look at how long they
- 31:43did it, you look at the positions that they played when
- 31:45they did it, like they played for, you know, 20 plus years.
- 31:48They're very well protected. How many defensive guys are we
- 31:51seeing break? You know, you know, you know,
- 31:53statistics and stats, records and whatnot?
- 31:56Not a whole lot. We're.
- 31:57We're seeing them just not in the same frequent, like not as
- 32:01frequent as in and there's not, it's not like one year we see
- 32:04three players break, break the sack record.
- 32:06I mean, that's not going to happen.
- 32:08Now, here's the other thing to look at though, Tony.
- 32:13Why? You're kidding.
- 32:15You came from Penn, you're wearing 11.
- 32:20Another guy just came from Penn. He's wearing 11.
- 32:24Also Whirlon? Yep.
- 32:26Why do you want that shadow? Right.
- 32:32You already have it. Yeah, why would you want to be
- 32:34in someone else's shadow of, you know, like, like that's why I
- 32:37said, you know, make, make your own name for yourself.
- 32:40Don't don't worry about, you know, Oh well, I want to be 56
- 32:44and no, make, make your own name, man.
- 32:46Don't, don't try to do that for for someone else.
- 32:49But but that's just me. But real quick for last topic
- 32:53before we, before we get out of here, like I mentioned, so Jay
- 32:56is from and lives in Arizona. So he's not only a Phoenix Suns
- 32:59fan, he's a Diamondbacks fan, but he's also a Cardinals fan.
- 33:04And the Cardinals kind of had an interesting draft.
- 33:06Even when I did my my kind of pre draft show, I was like, I
- 33:10really don't know what the Cardinals need.
- 33:11It was like, I feel like the Cardinals kind of need a lot,
- 33:13but I also kind of feel like they they did supplement quite a
- 33:16bit. You know, they got Hassan
- 33:17Reddick in free agency and whatnot.
- 33:20They draft Walter Nolan. The two other names that to me
- 33:24really stood out in their draft that I feel they got absolute
- 33:27steals on. They got Will Johnson in the
- 33:29second round and then they got Denzel Burke the other corner
- 33:33out of Ohio State. And I watched, I remember
- 33:35watching both of these guys, both at Michigan and Ohio State,
- 33:38both, I feel like those two guys are steals.
- 33:41Now. According to ESPN, the the
- 33:44Cardinals had five needs that they needed to address and they
- 33:47addressed 4 of them in the draft.
- 33:49They got the edge rusher, they got Jordan Birch out of Oregon,
- 33:51they got the quarterbacks, you know, the two that I mentioned,
- 33:54Will Johnson and Denzel Burke. They got a guard, they got
- 33:57Hayden Connor out of Texas and then they got Walter Nolan, the
- 33:59defensive tackle out of Ole Miss.
- 34:02The thing that they says that they need, that they didn't
- 34:05necessarily get was a wide receiver.
- 34:07And I'm not going to necessarily disagree because I do feel like
- 34:10Marvin Harrison Junior does need some help because it's it's hard
- 34:14to be like the number one guy in a spot because you know you're
- 34:18going to get double teamed every single time and you're going to
- 34:22get covered. And he did have a pretty good
- 34:24year last year. I felt like he's a little bit
- 34:25under the radar as compared to like neighbors Thomas, a lot of
- 34:30the big guys coming out of LSU. But Jay, what would you like if
- 34:33you had to give the Cardinals like a letter grade like a
- 34:36through F? What would you kind of give them
- 34:38on their draft as far as what they've done?
- 34:40I. Give them a plus and I wouldn't
- 34:43say that just to the Cardinals fans.
- 34:45It's been a long time since you give, hearing me give some
- 34:47grades like that to the Cardinals.
- 34:51Listen, there's a few things here.
- 34:54You can't keep doing the same thing over and over again and,
- 34:59and, and and not grow. Obviously if you keep doing the
- 35:05same thing, you're not growing anywhere 'cause you keep
- 35:07repeating yourself. We went out and got a first
- 35:10round draft pick, wide receiver for, you know what I mean?
- 35:13One of the best, supposed to be a generational player.
- 35:17You know, prestige pedigrees there.
- 35:19All that we got Wilson a year 2 before we got dork still there.
- 35:30We can't, we couldn't come back out and draft another high wide
- 35:34receiver. Right.
- 35:36And I'm not saying do it in the first round.
- 35:37I was just saying maybe like the maybe like fourth or fifth
- 35:40round, like a guy just to kind of add depth that maybe like
- 35:43maybe could be like work his way up to like a two or three
- 35:47because you've already got your one.
- 35:48Like you don't need another one like you.
- 35:50You kind of need the the depth behind that though.
- 35:52Like you need a guy that can be productive but isn't going to
- 35:55try to over shadow Marvin. Well, and, and that's just the
- 35:59thing there. I'm glad we win defense and
- 36:05that's why I give them a plus because if you look at our games
- 36:09last year, the games that we lost, we lost some of the
- 36:11defensive end, not the offensive end.
- 36:13We have one of the better running games in the in the
- 36:15league. Once we get up, we should be
- 36:18able to run the ball out. There was too many times last
- 36:20year we went up two scores and lost the game.
- 36:24So and then look at it, you got Darian Robinson, who was our
- 36:28first pick last year. He ends up getting injured,
- 36:32doesn't play but two games the whole season.
- 36:35You go out and get Josh wet from on the edge.
- 36:40You bring back Kalias Campbell, you you got Nichols, Bilal
- 36:45Nichols, who played pretty decent last year.
- 36:48You got steals who looked really good as a youngster last year.
- 36:52So now you go out and get who is giving you signs of maybe a
- 36:58Warren Sapp, a young Kalias or Darnell Dockett really quick and
- 37:02get to the get to the quarterback plug the run as
- 37:05well. And then you let them sit behind
- 37:08Kalias Campbell and learn. Then like you mentioned, you got
- 37:13the, you got the two late picks, one of them Ohio State.
- 37:17So you got to you got that championship pedigree there.
- 37:20Will Johnson coming from Michigan, which should have been
- 37:23a top three, top five pick if he hadn't got injured at the end of
- 37:26the year. You add that depth at A at a
- 37:28corner position that we really, really, really needed help in.
- 37:32So we added enough tools. We got players coming back.
- 37:37They were injured. I'm glad we went defense.
- 37:41And John Jonathan Cannon is a defensive minded coach, so why
- 37:46not give him all the weapons he needs to be successful on the on
- 37:49the side of the ball that he's the guru in?
- 37:52Yeah, most definitely. But no, I agree they, they got 2
- 37:55championship caliber quarterbacks 'cause I mean, you
- 37:57know, Will Johnson won it with Michigan the year before and
- 38:00Denzel Burke with that last year.
