- 0:04Good morning. This is the Sacramento Brief, your
- 0:08weekday roundup of overnight headlines and what's
- 0:11ahead across the city. I'm Carol. It's Tuesday,
- 0:16March 3rd, 2026. Let's get you caught up. Two
- 0:19people are hospitalized after a stabbing Monday
- 0:22night in downtown Sacramento. The Sacramento
- 0:24Police Department says officers responded just
- 0:27before 9 .45 p .m. to the 400 block of K Street,
- 0:30where they found two victims suffering from stab
- 0:32wounds. Both were taken to a local hospital.
- 0:35One of those victims has died, and suspect information
- 0:38is not available as this investigation continues.
- 0:42And earlier in the evening, a reckless driver
- 0:44led officers on a brief pursuit near 6th and
- 0:47I Street. Police say the vehicle was stopped
- 0:52using a pit maneuver and spike strips before
- 0:55crashing through the Sally Port doors at the
- 0:57Sacramento Canyon Main Jail. The suspect fled
- 1:00on foot but was quickly arrested. A pedestrian
- 1:03was struck during the chase, though no serious
- 1:06injuries were reported. Both incidents remain
- 1:10under investigation. In City Watch, last night
- 1:14at the Sacramento Youth Commission meeting, student
- 1:18leaders shared plans for a hands -on effort to
- 1:20support local youth in need. On March 22nd, youth
- 1:24commissioners will be out in neighborhoods across
- 1:26Sacramento collecting new and gently used backpacks
- 1:30for students who may not have one of their own.
- 1:32The commission is encouraging the community members
- 1:35to plan ahead. If a student comes knocking, have
- 1:38a backpack ready to donate. with making a real
- 1:42difference. I have included a link in the show
- 1:45notes if you'd like to donate through the Sacramento
- 1:47Brief. It's a simple way to support Sacramento
- 1:51youth led by youth themselves. Today's weather
- 1:55will be mostly sunny with a high near 68, calm
- 1:58winds to start around 5 mph by this afternoon,
- 2:01making for a comfortable, classic Sacramento
- 2:03day. Tonight, increasing clouds with a low around
- 2:0646. In events, Tonight at 6 .30, the Enlightenment
- 2:11Salon hosts Should We Have a Wealth Tax? The
- 2:15discussion centers around the California's proposed
- 2:17Billionaire Tax Act, a one -time 5 % tax on residents
- 2:22with over a billion dollars in assets. With Governor
- 2:26Newsom opposed and Senator Bernie Sanders in
- 2:29support, the debate is heating up. Guest experts
- 2:32from UC Davis and Sac State Sacramento State
- 2:35will break down the pros and cons. Tickets are
