- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's a Monday, it is the first
- 0:16day of the last month of the year, 1st of December.
- 0:20Happy Monday to you. I hope you're going well.
- 0:22I hope your brain is plugged in more securely than mine because
- 0:26I was searching the house trying to find my glasses so I could
- 0:29sit down and start recording. And Iman said, Sean, aren't they
- 0:33hooked on the front of your shirt?
- 0:35And sure enough, there they were.
- 0:37Who knows how long I would have searched for them if it wasn't
- 0:40for clever people who can see things like that.
- 0:43And Speaking of clever people who can see things that we
- 0:46can't, we come and sit before God and hear these words with
- 0:51these ideas that Paul shares with the church in Galatia to
- 0:55help them open their eyes and see the truth.
- 0:58And that is what we get to experience today as well.
- 1:03Holy Spirit, open us up to Your truth that we may be blind to so
- 1:07that we can learn more about You and align our heart and our
- 1:11lives more closely with You. Well, friends, what more is
- 1:16there to do other than to unwrap this very last chapter of
- 1:20Galatians and read it together? Galatians, chapter 6.
- 1:34Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by
- 1:38some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help
- 1:43that person back onto the right path and be careful not to fall
- 1:47into the same temptation yourself.
- 1:50Share each other's burdens and in this way obey the law of
- 1:55Christ. If you think you are too
- 1:57important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself.
- 2:01You are not that important. Pay careful attention to your
- 2:05own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well
- 2:10done and you won't need to compare yourself to anyone else,
- 2:14for we are each responsible for our own conduct.
- 2:20Those who are taught the Word of God should provide for their
- 2:23teachers, sharing all good things with them.
- 2:28Don't be misled. You cannot mock the justice of
- 2:31God. You will always harvest what you
- 2:34plant. Those who live only to satisfy
- 2:37their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from
- 2:41that sinful nature. But those who live to please the
- 2:45Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.
- 2:50So let's not grow tired of doing what is good at just the right
- 2:54time. We will reap a harvest of
- 2:57blessing if we don't give up. Therefore, whenever we have the
- 3:01opportunity, we should do good to everyone, especially to those
- 3:06in the family of faith. Notice what large letters I use
- 3:12as I write these closing words in my own handwriting.
- 3:17Those who are trying to force you to be circumcised want to
- 3:21look good to others. They don't want to be persecuted
- 3:24for teaching that the cross of Christ alone can save.
- 3:29And even those who advocate circumcision don't keep the
- 3:32whole law themselves. They only want you to be
- 3:35circumcised so they can boast about it and claim you as their
- 3:39disciples. As for me, may I never boast
- 3:44about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 3:50Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been
- 3:54crucified and the world's interest in me has also died.
- 4:00It doesn't matter whether we have been circumcised or not.
- 4:03What counts is whether we have been transformed into a new
- 4:07creation. May God's peace and mercy be
- 4:11upon all who live by this principle.
- 4:14They are the new people of God. From now on, don't let anyone
- 4:20trouble me with these things, for I bear on my body the scars
- 4:24that show I belong to Jesus. Dear brothers and sisters, may
- 4:29the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
- 4:35Amen. Lord, thank you for your truth
- 4:47that you communicate to us through Paul's words in this
- 4:50letter. Thank you that it just lays out
- 4:54so clearly for us that the only thing that matters isn't what we
- 4:59do on the outside and isn't those signs and traditions that
- 5:03we live in and follow, but it's whether or not we are being
- 5:07transformed in you into a new creation.
- 5:12And Lord, as we are transformed, we're transformed not for our
- 5:15own good, but for the good of your community and your Kingdom,
- 5:20so that we can love each other and we can serve each other and
- 5:24not having to worry about our own needs, we can care for those
- 5:28around us. And the beauty of that, Lord, is
- 5:31then others will care for our needs at the same time.
- 5:37Lord, I pray that our communities would reflect your
- 5:40will for us, that we would love and care, that we would uphold,
- 5:45unselfishly share and encourage, and that as we do this, living
- 5:54according to your plans for us, when the world sees the way we
- 5:59are, may they be convicted of something wonderful about the
- 6:03way that we are. And that something wonderful is
- 6:06You. Jesus, you are wonderful, and we
- 6:09thank you for your love, and we praise you from the bottom of
- 6:13our hearts. And we pray all of this in your
- 6:16name, Amen.
