1:36
Speaker 5: It could be as big as a boxes that you
1:40
Speaker 5: get a at a whole like a Sam's kind of
1:42
Speaker 5: a place, boxes of boxes of cereal, or it could
1:45
Speaker 5: be one box of cereal. It could be anything as
1:47
Speaker 5: long as a non perishable food item. And so we'll
1:50
Speaker 5: be doing that on our parking lot tomorrow. We'll also
1:53
Speaker 5: take cash or checks and our places eleven eleven Virginia

2:00
Speaker 5: Don't even have to get out of your car and
2:01
Speaker 5: go back out the other side. All of our staff
2:03
Speaker 5: members will be out there throughout the day. It's going
2:05
Speaker 5: to be hot, so if you want to bring us
2:07
Speaker 5: a water or two, that would be fine. Not for
2:10
Speaker 5: the kids, that's for us. I'm just saying full disclosure,
2:12
Speaker 5: that's for us. But seven adel six pms when we'll
2:15
Speaker 5: be doing that tomorrow.
2:16
Speaker 3: I have more in that.
2:17
Speaker 5: A little bit later on, Rob Reel from her sister

2:22
Speaker 5: us to talk about that. Also a little bit later on,
2:25
Speaker 5: Susseie Salisbury from the Charlestonnry Alliance will be stopping by

2:44
Speaker 3: Welcome to the show.
2:45
Speaker 5: Kelly, good morning, first time that you've been in our
2:48
Speaker 5: new place here.
2:49
Speaker 6: Yeah, it's beautiful.
2:51
Speaker 3: I worked hard on this.
2:52
Speaker 6: I'm sure you did.
2:53
Speaker 5: You believe that you've known me for a long time,
2:55
Speaker 5: so you know how much manual labor that I do.
2:58
Speaker 5: But we're very happy with our place. I'm happy to
3:01
Speaker 5: have you here in our new studio as well. We
3:04
Speaker 5: got some big things going on this weekend in Winfield.
3:07
Speaker 6: That's right, talk about them. It is Windfield Watersports Weekend,
3:10
Speaker 6: the Triple W. So we are looking forward to that.
3:13
Speaker 6: Starting Friday evening at five thirty, food trucks open and
3:18
Speaker 6: then at six pm there are free stand up paddle
3:21
Speaker 6: board lessons and then following that at seven thirty free rentals,
3:25
Speaker 6: all sponsored by the City of Winfield.
3:27
Speaker 5: And I tell you, I was in Winfield last week
3:29
Speaker 5: with her sister Station ninety eight seven the Mountain for
3:32
Speaker 5: the Pause and Pistons car show that they did, and
3:37
Speaker 5: a big shout out to Cody into Haley for putting
3:41
Speaker 5: that show on.
3:41
Speaker 3: Of course Mayor Randy Barrett as well. You. I mean,
3:44
Speaker 3: that was a huge, huge event.
3:46
Speaker 5: And I talked to the Mayor who wanted to join
3:49
Speaker 5: us today, but he's got some things going on with
3:50
Speaker 5: this family right now he couldn't join the same. But
3:52
Speaker 5: Mayor Randy Barrett is just really excited about a lot
3:56
Speaker 5: of these things that are going on in Winfield. I mean,
3:58
Speaker 5: they're not all related to the fun stuff you and
3:59
Speaker 5: I are to talking about, but Winfield is about to
4:02
Speaker 5: get a whole lot bigger with I mean, they're the
4:04
Speaker 5: major development going on there. But anyway, I say that
4:06
Speaker 5: to say, Winfield, Putnam County is an exciting place to
4:09
Speaker 5: be right now, and it will be this Friday and Saturday.
4:11
Speaker 6: Yeah it will. And you know it's a great time
4:13
Speaker 6: to come out. There's also live music I forgot to
4:15
Speaker 6: mention that on Friday night from the Sled Dogs, and
4:19
Speaker 6: then on Saturday there'll be a DJ and we'll have
4:21
Speaker 6: the food trucks out again. Free lessons again begin at
4:27
Speaker 6: eleven am and then sorry at noon, and there are
4:31
Speaker 6: free lessons at noon, and then there are races that
4:34
Speaker 6: you can sign up for either Friday night or Saturday,
4:36
Speaker 6: and then we do a.
4:37
Speaker 7: Rubber duck race.
4:38
Speaker 6: So it's a fifty to fifty pot and the other
4:39
Speaker 6: fifty percent that doesn't go to the winter goes to
4:42
Speaker 6: support Putnam's the Backpack Buddies program there that helps feed
4:46
Speaker 6: students over the summer.
4:47
Speaker 5: I just had Dougar went on the show on Monday
4:50
Speaker 5: talking about there they're going to be packing the backpacks
4:53
Speaker 5: on Saturday at the Nazarene church there In days Valley
4:57
Speaker 5: Kelly talk about the growth of that area as it
5:02
Speaker 5: pertains to really working with the river there, working with
5:06
Speaker 5: the water. I mean, I did a little interview that's
5:08
Speaker 5: going to air later this week with Mayor Barrett. Then
5:10
Speaker 5: that's going to air on the news programs. And this
5:13
Speaker 5: is a community that is really really rallying around the
5:16
Speaker 5: river and this stand up paddle boarding thing, which I
5:18
Speaker 5: knew absolutely nothing about ten years ago.
5:20
Speaker 3: It's huge. It is.
5:22
Speaker 6: You know, it's an unusual location on the river. You
5:25
Speaker 6: think of the Kanal River and it's heavily trafficked in
5:28
Speaker 6: a lot of places, but this is right upstream from
5:31
Speaker 6: the lock and dam, so you get more lakelight conditions.
5:33
Speaker 6: It's a great place to learn to paddle, especially on
5:36
Speaker 6: the weekends where you don't have quite as much barge traffic.
5:40
Speaker 6: It's really like being on a lake. And I paddled
5:43
Speaker 6: for the first time probably I think eight years ago.
5:45
Speaker 6: I had gone out when I first got this job
5:49
Speaker 6: and was just watching and there were some folks twenty
5:52
Speaker 6: or thirty years older than me out there paddling, and
5:54
Speaker 6: I thought, well, if they can do it, I can
5:55
Speaker 6: do I can.
5:56
Speaker 7: Do it, surely.
5:57
Speaker 6: And it's really a lot of fun and more accessible
6:01
Speaker 6: than you might imagine if you've never done it.
6:03
Speaker 5: And I have learned a lot from our mutual friend
6:05
Speaker 5: Evian Young about this. He's been on the show in
6:07
Speaker 5: the past and this is this is just a passion
6:10
Speaker 5: of his. The whole being on the water thing and Windfield,
6:14
Speaker 5: I think is to be congratulated because they've done a
6:17
Speaker 5: great job of trying to just wrap themselves up up
6:22
Speaker 5: in this. Got to talk about the weather because there
6:25
Speaker 5: is rain in the forecast, so how does that affect thinks?
6:27
Speaker 5: It looks like from listening to my buddy Brian Hughes,
6:29
Speaker 5: this morning looks like some rain Friday, almost like what
6:32
Speaker 5: we had last week, and rain on Friday evening, but
6:34
Speaker 5: then it clears up about midday Saturday.
6:36
Speaker 3: How might that impact your activities on Friday?
6:38
Speaker 6: You know, we want to make sure first and foremost
6:40
Speaker 6: that folks are safe. So if there is lightning, we
6:43
Speaker 6: won't be having people out on the river. That would
6:45
Speaker 6: not be wise. But otherwise, if it's just a light result,
6:48
Speaker 6: like I put a rain jacket on, come on out.
6:50
Speaker 6: There is a picnic shelter pavilion, bring your umbrella. You
6:54
Speaker 6: can still enjoy some music. But as long as it's
6:56
Speaker 6: safe to be out We'll still be out there.
6:58
Speaker 3: And you know you mentioned the group the Sled Dog.
7:00
Speaker 3: This is gonna be for me.
7:01
Speaker 5: You know a little bit of something about that group here,
7:03
Speaker 5: like you're you're a groupie there.
7:04
Speaker 6: We have a groopye and and I sing a few
7:06
Speaker 6: songs sometimes. My husband's in that band. I did not
7:09
Speaker 6: know that, you saying, yeah, surprise.
7:11
Speaker 3: Okay, I don't know.
7:13
Speaker 5: Yeah, So okay, Yeah, they're they're a fantastic group.
7:16
Speaker 3: I mean that they really are. And uh uh.
7:18
Speaker 5: And and that that guy you're married to is not
7:20
Speaker 5: bad either, He's pretty good.
7:22
Speaker 3: You should Slid Dogs are a great group.
7:24
Speaker 5: By the way, The Dave Allen Showing five eighty Live
7:26
Speaker 5: is brought to you part by your hometown baseball team,
7:28
Speaker 5: the Charleston Dirty Birds. Birds are at High Point tonight
7:31
Speaker 5: and back at Gomart Ballpark on Tuesday, June tenth. For tickets,
7:34
Speaker 5: promotion schedules, and more, visit dirty Birds baseball dot com.
7:37
Speaker 5: We'll get back to the water sports weekend coming up
7:39
Speaker 5: here momentarily.
7:40
Speaker 3: We'll go over with the schedule and things of that nature.
7:42
Speaker 3: But I want to talk about uh.
7:44
Speaker 5: Your the executive director of Putnam County Tourism uh, exciting
7:48
Speaker 5: time this summer.
7:49
Speaker 3: A lot of things going on at Putnam County.
7:51
Speaker 6: That's right. We have not only is Whinfield water sports
7:54
Speaker 6: going on this weekend, but the Cares Sensory Circus, the
7:57
Speaker 6: fundraiser and community event for CARES. I believe Joe was
8:00
Speaker 6: on here recently. I'll talking about that. And then later
8:04
Speaker 6: in the month we have the West Virginia Coffee Festival,
8:06
Speaker 6: first first ever coffee festival, which sold out in a day.
8:10
Speaker 6: So sold out for vendors or no, they sold out
8:14
Speaker 6: their tickets.
8:14
Speaker 3: They sold out the tickets. Yeah, so okay.
8:16
Speaker 6: You know, maybe you can buy one on the on
8:18
Speaker 6: the on the second hand market. I don't know how
8:20
Speaker 6: that works.
8:21
Speaker 5: If we're scalping coffee festival tickets. You know, when Justin
8:24
Speaker 5: Williams there told me about this idea that they had
8:27
Speaker 5: to do a coffee festival, and he and I talked
8:29
Speaker 5: about this, he said, look, I put something up online
8:31
Speaker 5: about it, and he said, and immediately people were.
8:33
Speaker 3: All about this. I didn't realize though, that it was
8:35
Speaker 3: sold out to the public.
8:37
Speaker 6: Yeah, they sold out nine hundred tickets in about a day.
8:40
Speaker 3: And it's going to be at Valley Park.
8:41
Speaker 6: It will be at Valley Park.
8:42
Speaker 8: That's right.
8:43
Speaker 3: And when is that again?
8:44
Speaker 6: It's at the last I believe, the last Saturday in June.
8:47
Speaker 3: Okay.
8:47
Speaker 6: Then we have Putnam County Fair every every July coming up,
8:51
Speaker 6: and it's just they're always. You know, you can check
8:54
Speaker 6: our events calendar at visit PUTNAMWV dot com. But we
8:57
Speaker 6: have so many things going on all summer throughout Putnham County,
9:00
Speaker 6: regardless of whether you want to be outside or inside,
9:04
Speaker 6: if you have kids, there are lots of fun activities
9:06
Speaker 6: for young, young families and people of all ages really.
9:11
Speaker 5: And I think sometimes people look at Putnam County and I'm
9:13
Speaker 5: a little bit biased because you know, I've lived there
9:15
Speaker 5: for the last eleven years. But people look at Putnam County, well,
9:18
Speaker 5: there's nothing.
9:18
Speaker 3: It's a bedroom community.
9:19
Speaker 5: Everybody either commutes into Charleston, and trust me, I'm one
9:22
Speaker 5: of them. There's a lot of people that come into
9:23
Speaker 5: Charleston and a lot of people go to Huntington as well.
9:26
Speaker 5: But Putnam County has got a lot of stuff, a
9:29
Speaker 5: lot of stuff going on. And I talked about what's
9:31
Speaker 5: going on in Winfield. There are some major housing developments
9:34
Speaker 5: going in there. There's a couple of subdivisions being played
9:37
Speaker 5: there and people this is like what they said Putnam
9:40
Speaker 5: County was like I wasn't there, but what they said
9:42
Speaker 5: Putnham County was like in the nineteen nineties when all
9:44
Speaker 5: these people used to be nothing but farmland, and all
9:47
Speaker 5: these people are coming in and we're seeing that again,
9:50
Speaker 5: I mean with it. I mean, it's just unbelieviad. The
9:53
Speaker 5: joke is, and our listeners have heard me say this
9:55
Speaker 5: on the air more than once. If you take your
9:57
Speaker 5: curtains or you're blind down to clean them, somebody's trying
9:59
Speaker 5: to buy your house. That's what it's like in Putnam
10:02
Speaker 5: County right now.
10:02
Speaker 3: That's right.
10:03
Speaker 6: It is growing quite a bit. I mean we have
10:05
Speaker 6: both growth and business, both growth and folks wanting to
10:08
Speaker 6: move there. Our schools are fantastic. I'm very thankful my
10:11
Speaker 6: kids are both in Puttnam County schools. And so it's
10:14
Speaker 6: just an area. It's a thriving community. We have great
10:17
Speaker 6: outdoor recreation. It's a good place to live and so
10:21
Speaker 6: I don't see that slowing down anytime soon.
10:23
Speaker 5: All right, let's get back to the activities. The schedule
10:26
Speaker 5: again for the water sports weekend.
10:28
Speaker 6: Yeah, so sorry, not tomorrow. This is Wednesday. On Friday
10:32
Speaker 6: evening things kick off at five point thirty with food
10:35
Speaker 6: trucks opening, and then at six pm you can get
10:37
Speaker 6: your free step, your stand up paddle board lessons, and
10:41
Speaker 6: then there's a sunset float in rentals for those if
10:43
Speaker 6: you don't have you can bring your kayak or your
10:45
Speaker 6: paddle board out if you have one, but if not,
10:47
Speaker 6: we'll have rentals available for free. I call them rentals.
10:49
Speaker 6: You can just take take your the thing out on
10:53
Speaker 6: the water. And then Saturday there I also failed to
10:56
Speaker 6: mention there as a paddle swap that begins at nine.
10:59
Speaker 6: So if you have stuff, if you have old if
11:01
Speaker 6: you like went on a COVID buying spree for paddle
11:05
Speaker 6: paddle stuff, bring it out and you can sell it,
11:08
Speaker 6: you can swap it. And if you don't sell it
11:09
Speaker 6: and you want to donate it, we're coordinating a donation
11:12
Speaker 6: to Camp Appalachia for kids to use out there. And
11:16
Speaker 6: so that is from nine to noon. There's a five
11:18
Speaker 6: K paddle and float at ten am, and then the
11:22
Speaker 6: food trucks and everything kicks off really at eleven and
11:26
Speaker 6: then there's a safety training and the rentals and the
11:28
Speaker 6: races and all that really kicks off at noon, so
11:31
Speaker 6: you want to be there at noon. And you can
11:34
Speaker 6: buy your ducks for the Rubber Duck race on our website.
11:37
Speaker 6: You do not have to be present to win, so
11:38
Speaker 6: folks can check those out now, all right.
11:40
Speaker 5: And where is the best place to get that information
11:43
Speaker 5: that you just put out there?
11:44
Speaker 6: Yeah, you can go to Winfieldwatersports dot com. Or you
11:46
Speaker 6: can find Puttnham County Tourism on Facebook and we've got
11:49
Speaker 6: the Facebook event there. It's probably the you know people,
11:51
Speaker 6: people don't remember that you are. I'll just come find
11:53
Speaker 6: us on Facebook, all right.
11:55

Speaker 5: Who's Salisbury from the Charleston Airy Alliance is going to
14:59

15:03
Speaker 5: the day that we are going to ask you, the
15:05
Speaker 5: greatest listeners in the world, to show up as you
15:08
Speaker 5: always have, as we are asking for people to drop
15:11
Speaker 5: us off some snacks Tomorrow seven am to six pm
15:14
Speaker 5: on our parking night eleven eleven, Virginia Treaty Charleston the
15:17
Speaker 5: brainchild of one rob.
15:19
Speaker 10: Real, doesn't one have to have a brain to be
15:23
Speaker 10: to create a brain child? I if anybody sorry about that?
15:29
Speaker 10: If anybody, I'm trying to get to the list is
15:32
Speaker 10: what I'm trying to have in front of me.
15:34
Speaker 5: The I've actually got it. Oh good, good for you.
15:37
Speaker 5: You're you're better. You're better at this whole radio thing.
15:40
Speaker 5: Well somewhere you can't keep talking. I'll find it.
15:42
Speaker 3: I got it now.
15:44
Speaker 10: So seventy thousand West Virginia kids are in food insecure situations.
15:49
Speaker 10: One in five two thirds of West Virginia school kids
15:53
Speaker 10: qualify for free or reduced lunch and guess what school's
15:57
Speaker 10: out for summer. There are kids who certain won't eat
16:00
Speaker 10: enough and some who won't eat at all because their
16:04
Speaker 10: schools aren't able to do breakfast and lunch programs during
16:08
Speaker 10: the summer. So we've filled in some other gaps before
16:12
Speaker 10: with our drop events. We do the Turkey drop to
16:14
Speaker 10: feed families during the holidays around Thanksgivings. When we do that,
16:18
Speaker 10: mid January is our Drop your Socks drive through for
16:23
Speaker 10: collecting socks to keep folks warm over the winter. So
16:27
Speaker 10: is there something we can do in the summer is
16:28
Speaker 10: there in need we can fill, and we stumbled onto
16:31
Speaker 10: this pretty big one. And so with the help of
16:34
Speaker 10: Jason and Mighty Joe and everybody at Union Mission, we
16:37
Speaker 10: are going to collect non perishable snacks all day tomorrow,
16:40
Speaker 10: seven in the morning till six in the evening here
16:42
Speaker 10: on Virginia Street East.
16:43
Speaker 3: And thank kind of things we are looking for.
16:45
Speaker 10: We're looking for I mentioned goldfish crackers are a.
16:48
Speaker 3: Big, big deal.
16:50
Speaker 10: Individual boxed cereal orange juice and grape juice cups G
16:55
Speaker 10: two that's the sugar free gatorade, oatmeal, chips, ramen kind bar,
17:00
Speaker 10: prepackaged cheese and crackers, prepackaged cookies.
17:03
Speaker 3: These are all on the I don't want to.
17:06
Speaker 10: Say approved list, the appropriate list, Yes, yeah, yea, that
17:09
Speaker 10: we got from Union Mission.
17:11
Speaker 3: We're not going to turn stuff away. That's that's not
17:12
Speaker 3: who we are.
17:13
Speaker 10: And we're definitely not going to turn away cash and
17:15
Speaker 10: check donations because there's the power of buying in bulk.
17:18
Speaker 3: I mean, you do it when you go to.
17:19
Speaker 10: Whatever club store that you go to, So why not
17:22
Speaker 10: take advantage of that with Union Mission as well.
17:24
Speaker 5: Yeah, and again, the thing about collecting the cash is
17:28
Speaker 5: and it's great that we can have people to drop
17:30
Speaker 5: off their snacks.
17:31
Speaker 3: As you said, we're not going to turn anything down.
17:32
Speaker 5: But the great thing about the cash is is that
17:34
Speaker 5: we can give it directly, I mean on site. The
17:37
Speaker 5: people from Union Mission are going to be here, so
17:38
Speaker 5: we give it to Jason and the folks there and
17:41
Speaker 5: they they do this. Yes, they're a lot better at it.
17:45
Speaker 5: You know, they know what to do, they know where
17:47
Speaker 5: the deals are, things.
17:48
Speaker 3: Of that nature.
17:49
Speaker 10: There's part of me that wants to say they'll put
17:51
Speaker 10: that money to work the next day on Friday. I
17:53
Speaker 10: think I know them well enough to know that they'll
17:56
Speaker 10: put it to work that day, like somebody will do
17:59
Speaker 10: a midday Collie election of what we've got on cash
18:01
Speaker 10: and start filling in gaps in the midday tomorrow. So
18:06
Speaker 10: this is maybe the fastest turnaround we're going to have
18:10
Speaker 10: on any of these events, because they're kids out of
18:13
Speaker 10: school and they are kids who need to eat.
18:14
Speaker 5: Yeah, Kaddon County schools ended over the last couple days.
18:17
Speaker 5: And think Putnam Counties later is later this week. I
18:19
Speaker 5: think it's I think it's tomorrow. I think for some
18:22
Speaker 5: reason I got that in my head. So yeah, and
18:25
Speaker 5: you're you're right. I mean and there are various programs
18:28
Speaker 5: out there that do this, but you really can't do enough.
18:31
Speaker 5: Because I had the folks from the Backpack Buddies program
18:33
Speaker 5: on the show on Monday. They're a fantastic organization and
18:37
Speaker 5: there I'll give them a little plug there. But they're
18:39
Speaker 5: packing event is Saturday at the Church of at the
18:44
Speaker 5: Nazarene Church there in Taye Valley, and I mean they
18:46
Speaker 5: mail out thousands of boxes of food to get to
18:49
Speaker 5: these kids. And that's a wonderful program. Yes, and there
18:51
Speaker 5: are others that are doing similar things, but there's always
18:54
Speaker 5: a need and you can't have enough. It's it's almost
18:57
Speaker 5: a Swiss cheese sort of map of places that have
19:01
Speaker 5: organizations like Backpack Buddies who are already filling this need
19:05
Speaker 5: that is terrific.
19:06
Speaker 10: Thank you for doing that work. We're now trying to
19:09
Speaker 10: come along and fill in as many of those holes
19:11
Speaker 10: where communities can't or don't have the resources to do
19:15
Speaker 10: this sort of thing.
19:16
Speaker 5: Doctor to Rob Real again from a sister station ninety

Speaker 5: episodes wv metronews dot com or the podcast menu and
19:36
Speaker 5: start your journey towards better health today. And this is
19:39
Speaker 5: another one of those events too, that all of our
19:41
Speaker 5: stations are involved. You know, we're gonna have you know,
19:44
Speaker 5: obviously you kind of spearheaded this thing, but ninety eight
19:46
Speaker 5: seven a Mountain V one hundred debat CHS Charleston's ESPN
19:51
Speaker 5: Radio KAZ We're gonna be out there all day on
19:55
Speaker 5: the parking lot. And again, just like on of these
19:58
Speaker 5: other things that Rob talked about, you don't have to
20:00
Speaker 5: get out of your car. So if you're and tomorrow
20:03
Speaker 5: it's going to be you know, we've gone from one
20:05
Speaker 5: extreme to the.
20:05
Speaker 3: Other with the weather.
20:06
Speaker 5: It's going to be like one hundred and eighty eight
20:08
Speaker 5: or something like that on the pavement there tomorrow, So
20:11
Speaker 5: you don't have to get out of that nice air
20:13
Speaker 5: conditioned car. All you gonna do is just pull up
20:15
Speaker 5: and pull out.
20:16
Speaker 10: For those of you playing our home game, I live
20:17
Speaker 10: close enough that I walked to and from work, and
20:21
Speaker 10: I had took a little break to run back and
20:23
Speaker 10: forth because I've got some things coming up later today.
20:26
Speaker 10: And it's already sweltering, and it's nine thirty in the morning,
20:31
Speaker 10: and I'm somebody who served in the sandbox in full uniform.
20:34
Speaker 3: It's hot today and it fitting to be tomorrow.
20:37
Speaker 10: So crank the ac up and roll through our oblong
20:41
Speaker 10: elliptical parking lot and roll down your window long enough
20:44
Speaker 10: to say, hey, radio monkey, grab the stuff out of
20:48
Speaker 10: the back.
20:48
Speaker 3: I'll pop the hatch.
20:50
Speaker 10: And it's and it's going to be a truckload of
20:52
Speaker 10: West Virginia Radio Hall of Famers too, Steve and Jenny,
20:55
Speaker 10: and you got Jeff Jenkins bumping around, and Gorse Woody
20:59
Speaker 10: Woods and then me.
21:01
Speaker 3: And yeah and me and Steve Animal.
21:03
Speaker 10: Oh yeah, Steve Animal. He's not even allowed in the
21:06
Speaker 10: Hall of Fame for lunch.
21:07
Speaker 5: No, no, but but again, and this is not something
21:11
Speaker 5: that's got to be very expensive if people don't want
21:13
Speaker 5: to take the their route of buying things, because you could,
21:15
Speaker 5: you could. And I don't want to promote any one
21:17
Speaker 5: story of the other, but I'll just throw it out
21:19
Speaker 5: there as an example. You can hit up your dollar
21:21
Speaker 5: general you can hit up your dollar tree. You can
21:23
Speaker 5: hit up if you're somebody that does as you mentioned,
21:25
Speaker 5: buying bulk, you know you can. You can get things
21:27
Speaker 5: from Sam's, but we don't. You could bring us an
21:30
Speaker 5: entire box like that you would see at a restaurant,
21:35
Speaker 5: or you can bring us two.
21:37
Speaker 3: Bags of chips.
21:38
Speaker 10: I am somebody who budgets within my finances to do
21:42
Speaker 10: this sort of thing, and I have the wherewithal that
21:44
Speaker 10: I can. You know, this afternoon, I'm going to go
21:46
Speaker 10: drop about two hundred bucks on snacks, because that's that's
21:49
Speaker 10: who I am, and I've kind of built my life
21:50
Speaker 10: to be able to do these sorts of things. Not
21:52
Speaker 10: everybody can do that, to be sure. You know, if
21:56
Speaker 10: if you've got like a five in your wallet and
21:58
Speaker 10: that's all you can spare, believe me, it will be
22:00
Speaker 10: put to work. If you're doing your grocery run at
22:03
Speaker 10: you know, walmartin Southridge, good luck with the traffic, bless
22:06
Speaker 10: your heart, and you get goldfish crackers, you get like
22:10
Speaker 10: one of those twelve things snack things for the kids,
22:12
Speaker 10: and you can afford like one more of those, Grab
22:15
Speaker 10: that and we will take that. If you know you're
22:18
Speaker 10: doing the two for five dollars bags of chips, and
22:20
Speaker 10: you want to keep one and bring us, we will
22:22
Speaker 10: do that.
22:23
Speaker 3: We will put it all to work to feed West
22:25
Speaker 3: Virginia kids. That's what the whole thing is about it again.
22:28
Speaker 3: Union Mission.
22:28
Speaker 5: Those folks, Jason and the folks just do a fantastic
22:32
Speaker 5: job over there of helping out.
22:34
Speaker 3: I mean, and they've always they've.
22:35
Speaker 5: Been a partner in several different things that we've done,
22:37
Speaker 5: from the Drop your Socks to most I was just
22:39
Speaker 5: kind of joking about the weather because we did the
22:42
Speaker 5: first I think the first drop your Socks event that
22:46
Speaker 5: we did was the first one of the second one
22:47
Speaker 5: that was one that was really really cold. I mean
22:49
Speaker 5: they were both cold, but that this one was the
22:51
Speaker 5: one that was really cold.
22:53
Speaker 10: I don't remember which one it was, but one of
22:56
Speaker 10: them happened between two snowstorms.
22:58
Speaker 3: Yes, so I think that was the first year.
23:01
Speaker 10: Well, yeah, so it had snowed on Monday or Tuesday,
23:03
Speaker 10: and it was all still on the ground in bitter cold,
23:05
Speaker 10: and we're standing out and it's still wet and we're
23:07
Speaker 10: standing out in it, and then it starts snowing later
23:10
Speaker 10: that evening.
23:11
Speaker 3: As we're wrapping.
23:11
Speaker 10: Things up, it's those sorts of things that sort of
23:17
Speaker 10: remind us why we're out there and doing it, so
23:19
Speaker 10: that the heat and being hungry tomorrow is going to
23:22
Speaker 10: remind us why we do it. And I say this
23:25
Speaker 10: all the time. I am continually impressed, astounded, but not
23:30
Speaker 10: the least bit surprised at the way West Virginians come
23:34
Speaker 10: through for West Virginians every single time.
23:36
Speaker 3: It's kind it's kind of what we do. Yeah, it's
23:38
Speaker 3: kind of what we do.
23:38
Speaker 5: And you've seen it in a couple of your things
23:40
Speaker 5: that the different promotions that you've done as well. And
23:42
Speaker 5: I think people do need to realize and there may
23:47
Speaker 5: be people listening to this right now we're saying, what
23:49
Speaker 5: do you mean these kids don't have food? There's a
23:52
Speaker 5: lot of them, and I know, and I know firsthand.
23:55
Speaker 5: Back in the back in the day, our next door
23:57
Speaker 5: neighbor in a former place we lived was a was
24:01
Speaker 5: an elementary school principal, and he was a very sensitive guy.
24:06
Speaker 5: And his thing was, he said, it breaks my heart
24:10
Speaker 5: knowing that when those kids get on the bus at
24:12
Speaker 5: three o'clock on Friday, many of them don't have any
24:16
Speaker 5: food until they come back on Monday. That's the reality,
24:19
Speaker 5: and that that actually happens in the greatest country on
24:22
Speaker 5: God's green Earth.
24:23
Speaker 3: It happens every day.
24:24
Speaker 10: Well, and I'm somebody who has lived I'm the most
24:27
Speaker 10: traveled person here at WVRC Media by far. I've lived
24:30
Speaker 10: in seventeen states and three other countries. And so I'm
24:34
Speaker 10: not just mouthing it when I say West Virginians go
24:36
Speaker 10: that extra mile. We may take that for granted, we
24:39
Speaker 10: kind of velocitize to well, this is just what we do.
24:42
Speaker 10: Believe me, it's what we do. But it's not what
24:44
Speaker 10: everybody does. Taking care of our friends and neighbors this way.
24:48
Speaker 10: And I've had some up close experiences with the foster
24:53
Speaker 10: system and addiction and some of the underbelly of social services,
25:00
Speaker 10: and there are there are situations where kids are having
25:06
Speaker 10: their their parents are taking away food and snacks to
25:09
Speaker 10: fence them to get the next hit. That's that's a
25:13
Speaker 10: harsh thing to have to say out loud, but it's
25:15
Speaker 10: really happening. There are kids who are not eating because
25:18
Speaker 10: of poverty and addiction. And if we can do even
25:21
Speaker 10: a little bit for that, I'm on board.
25:23
Speaker 5: All right, seven am until six pm that's the time tomorrow,
25:27
Speaker 5: and we'll have I think Jay, I'm gonna have Jason
25:29
Speaker 5: come in the studio with this tomorrow and you and
25:31
Speaker 5: whoever else you can drink. That's one of the great
25:33
Speaker 5: things about one of the great things about having this
25:34
Speaker 5: big studio here is.
25:36
Speaker 3: That we can have a lot of people here.
25:37
Speaker 10: The hardest part about what you just said, though, is
25:40
Speaker 10: going to be getting us off the parking lot.
25:42
Speaker 3: Well, that's true.
25:42
Speaker 10: I don't presume to speak for Jason, but I my
25:45
Speaker 10: sense of him is we're a lot of like that.
25:47
Speaker 10: We want to be out there, sleeves rolled up, doing
25:49
Speaker 10: the work. Yeah, so getting us in here just finally.
25:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, you can always call Let's let's go live to
25:55
Speaker 5: the parking calling for the park Let's just run a
25:57
Speaker 5: really long mic cord.
25:58
Speaker 3: Let's see if we can do that. You know, you
26:00
Speaker 3: want to be the first time.
26:01
Speaker 5: You want to know a quick story about that, and
26:05
Speaker 5: you know, you get Robin here and then we'll start
26:06
Speaker 5: telling old radio stories all day. We should get a podcast, idea.
26:11
Speaker 5: It's a great idea. It's a great idea for us
26:13
Speaker 5: to have a podcast. Uh that's an inside joke.
26:16
Speaker 3: But we'll tell you when you're older. Nineteen eighty eight
26:21
Speaker 3: or so. I'm on I'm seventeen years old kid, still
26:24
Speaker 3: in black and white at WLOG.
26:25
Speaker 5: Radio and Logan, which no longer exists, and they used
26:29
Speaker 5: to do a gospel scene every Labor Day on what
26:35
Speaker 5: we called Courthouse Square it really wasn't Courthouse Square but downtown.
26:39
Speaker 5: And we got this bright we meaning the management of
26:42
Speaker 5: this Briday, We're going to broadcast this thing live. So
26:46
Speaker 5: this is before cell phones. We didn't have the proper equipment.
26:49
Speaker 5: I mean I was making three thirty five an hour,
26:51
Speaker 5: and I think all the announcers were at that time.
26:55
Speaker 5: We ran a mic cable from our our radio station,
27:00
Speaker 5: which U and I. You're not supposed to mention the
27:04
Speaker 5: other other stations. I get that, But in Charleston in
27:08
Speaker 5: the afternoon on another radio station, there is a there's
27:11
Speaker 5: a guy. He and I worked there together, and we
27:15
Speaker 5: ran mike cable from the top of this mountain all
27:19
Speaker 5: the way down steps through the streets of Logan and
27:25
Speaker 5: we broadcast the event lot. Guess how many trips we
27:28
Speaker 5: had to make down those steps to get down there
27:31
Speaker 5: because somebody because somebody said hey, what's this and unplugged
27:34
Speaker 5: it or they ran over it or something. It seemed
27:37
Speaker 5: like a good idea at the time.
27:40
Speaker 10: The title of his upcoming memoir. It seemed like a
27:43
Speaker 10: good idea at the time. So I'll tell you about
27:46
Speaker 10: I've run Mike Cable before. All right, seven am to
27:49
Speaker 10: six pm tomorrow drop your snacks Union mission. Thank you
27:52
Speaker 10: so much, Rob, Thank you as always my friend, and

31:54
Speaker 5: go check it out.
31:55
Speaker 3: It'll be going on through Friday. All right, So Susie
31:57
Speaker 3: is here from the Charleston Lights. How have you been?
31:59
Speaker 2: What's going on with i' mean going great? We've got
32:02
Speaker 2: a lot of exciting things going on. If you haven't
32:04
Speaker 2: had an opportunity, might drive by our property at eleven
32:07
Speaker 2: sixteen Smith Street. We have a lot of renovation going
32:10
Speaker 2: on and that's very exciting. But I think the first
32:13
Speaker 2: thing I'd like to talk about is our partnership with
32:16
Speaker 2: an organization called the City Center Business Improvement District.
32:21
Speaker 8: Just a little history on it.
32:23
Speaker 2: This is an effort that allows property owners, not the businesses,
32:29
Speaker 2: the property owners in a designated area to assess themselves
32:33
Speaker 2: a fee to make improvements in that area.
32:37
Speaker 8: That's about as simple as I can put it.
32:39
Speaker 2: So, the West Virginia legislature passed enabling legislation like back
32:43
Speaker 2: in the late nineties and Morgantown it was the only
32:47
Speaker 2: one that had actually used this tool for economic development
32:51
Speaker 2: in downtowns, and they used it as a way to
32:55
Speaker 2: provide match money for streetscape improvements. So anytime you draw
33:00
Speaker 2: down a federal grant for streetscape improvements, you have to
33:04
Speaker 2: match it by at least twenty percent. So the property
33:07
Speaker 2: in Morgantown, the property owners got together and said, we
33:10
Speaker 2: want to come up with a match to draw down
33:12
Speaker 2: these federal grants. So they did it block by block,
33:15
Speaker 2: and this is when High Street was being redeveloped and
33:18
Speaker 2: then it expired. They do have a sunset of ten
33:21
Speaker 2: years unless you renew them. So we had property owners.
33:25
Speaker 2: We have talked about business improvement districts for fifteen years
33:30
Speaker 2: in Charleston and then when the new administration came in
33:34
Speaker 2: Mayor Goodwin and she made a real commitment to investing
33:38
Speaker 2: in the Slack Plaza redevelopment, the physical park itself, and
33:44
Speaker 2: the property owners said, you know what the city is investing,
33:47
Speaker 2: maybe we need this is our opportunity to try to
33:51
Speaker 2: form a bid. Bid is the acronym that we use
33:54
Speaker 2: for business improvement district and we'll put our money up
33:58
Speaker 2: since the city has already put their money up, so
34:02
Speaker 2: there's a whole process to do it. It has to
34:04
Speaker 2: be formed by an ordinance through City Council. That's how
34:07
Speaker 2: they enabling legislation was written, and we got a three
34:12
Speaker 2: We worked during COVID, which ended up being the perfect
34:16
Speaker 2: time because it gave us time to really make a
34:18
Speaker 2: lot of contacts with all of the property owners and
34:21
Speaker 2: explain to them what it was how their little bit
34:24
Speaker 2: of money would leverage additional money. So we got it,
34:27
Speaker 2: we got it formed, and we're now in our pretty
34:31
Speaker 2: active third going in fourth year of operation. So we
34:36
Speaker 2: have this group and it is a whole separate organization.
34:39
Speaker 2: They contact with the Charleston Area Alliance for a lot
34:42
Speaker 2: of their grant management, administrative services, and marketing. So the
34:48
Speaker 2: property owners now have agreed if you can believe that
34:52
Speaker 2: that we were charging ourselves and the money runs through
34:56
Speaker 2: City Council. Therefore our work plan and our budget that
35:00
Speaker 2: has to be approved by city council.
35:01
Speaker 8: And that's what happened on Monday night.
35:04
Speaker 2: So they assess themselves and it's a formula based on
35:07
Speaker 2: how much land square footage they have and how much
35:10
Speaker 2: square footage of the improvements on the property basically the
35:14
Speaker 2: building that's on the property.
35:16
Speaker 8: So it's a formula.
35:18
Speaker 2: We have property owners that pay anywhere from two hundred
35:21
Speaker 2: dollars a year up to fourteen thousand dollars a year,
35:26
Speaker 2: but the total budget is only around ninety three thousand dollars.
35:31
Speaker 2: And the whole bid was formed as we want to
35:36
Speaker 2: really focus on cleanliness, safety and activation. And the area
35:45
Speaker 2: is basically several blocks that surround City Center at Slack Plaza.
35:50
Speaker 2: So the biggest part of their budget expenses is they
35:54
Speaker 2: hire a full time what's called a bid ambassador, and
35:58
Speaker 2: that's Sydney Gillis. And if you spend any time down
36:01
Speaker 2: there Monday through Friday, you'll see Sydney out and about.
36:05
Speaker 2: He walks around the bid, he picks up trash, he
36:08
Speaker 2: waters the planters, but what most of his time is
36:11
Speaker 2: spent is getting to know the property owners, getting to
36:14
Speaker 2: know the businesses. And he helps a lot with people
36:18
Speaker 2: that are transitioning through the business Improvement District area, giving
36:23
Speaker 2: them direction. I mean, he's a true ambassador. He gives
36:25
Speaker 2: them directions. He if there's an issue with a tree
36:29
Speaker 2: that's along the streetscape, he knows who to call. It
36:32
Speaker 2: the city to get the tree fixed, but he also
36:36
Speaker 2: helps with some.
36:37
Speaker 8: Of our unhoused community.
36:39
Speaker 2: He has a very close relationship with the care Seam
36:41
Speaker 2: through the City of Charleston, so as people need help,
36:45
Speaker 2: he knows exactly who to call to get them that help.
36:48
Speaker 2: So he's working on beautification, he's working on safety and security,
36:54
Speaker 2: and he's also truly a tourism ambassador directing people throughout
36:59
Speaker 2: our cities. So that he is our biggest budget item.
37:05
Speaker 2: But the nice thing about the way the bit of
37:07
Speaker 2: structured it has allowed us to take those funds that
37:11
Speaker 2: the property owners are putting in and leverage it for
37:15
Speaker 2: additional grants, and that was the big part of our.
37:19
Speaker 8: Discussion on Monday night at City Council.
37:23
Speaker 2: So we have been able to leverage about one point
37:25
Speaker 2: two million dollars in additional funding through federal grants, state grants,
37:32
Speaker 2: and local private foundations to actually begin to implement. We
37:37
Speaker 2: are operating from a master plan that was completed in
37:39
Speaker 2: twenty twenty three and this is our phase one and
37:43
Speaker 2: this is going to be a focus along Summer Street
37:47
Speaker 2: of replacing the lighting and improving the lighting. We will
37:52
Speaker 2: also be doing some kind of pilot projects with some
37:56
Speaker 2: of the parking along that stretch, and then we want
37:59
Speaker 2: to do some activation projects, beautification type projects, I mean
38:04
Speaker 2: things like getting unified trash containers and trash containers. That
38:10
Speaker 2: sounds so simple, but you want them that the city
38:15
Speaker 2: that's going to be maintaining them. You've got to make
38:17
Speaker 2: sure that they're high quality, they're easily accessible. And the
38:21
Speaker 2: other thing that we constantly hear is are current trash containers,
38:25
Speaker 2: which are pieces of art and they're very.
38:27
Speaker 8: Nice, but you can't fit a pizza box in them.
38:30
Speaker 2: So you think about, we've got pizza places right down
38:34
Speaker 2: in the heart of the BD, so we need and
38:36
Speaker 2: it's funny, and I mean we do laugh a lot,
38:38
Speaker 2: but it's true. You got to be able to put
38:40
Speaker 2: a pizza box into the trash container.
38:44
Speaker 8: So that's the main initiative.
38:47
Speaker 2: Now, they're not necessarily set up to like run programming
38:51
Speaker 2: like you would think a typical revitalization type initiative would do.
38:56
Speaker 8: What we do is we partner.
38:57
Speaker 2: There's already so much programming going on on in city
39:00
Speaker 2: Center's black plas. I mean this weekend is the West
39:03
Speaker 2: Virginia Pride Festival and parade.
39:07
Speaker 8: The downtown.
39:07
Speaker 2: We have a very close relationship with the Downtown Association.
39:10
Speaker 2: With Holly Jolly Brawley, we invest in Arts Amplified and
39:16
Speaker 2: they're doing a lot of the city Center lives and
39:19
Speaker 2: they do the art piece of Holly Jolly Brawley. So
39:22
Speaker 2: we're not programming per se, but what we're doing is
39:25
Speaker 2: we are partnering. So these property owners have said, yeah,
39:28
Speaker 2: we love having these events. That keeps people coming to
39:31
Speaker 2: the business Improvement district. And as a property owner, I've
39:35
Speaker 2: got property that I need to lease. So you might
39:37
Speaker 2: be wondering why would they want to pay extra money. Well,
39:39
Speaker 2: they've got property that they need to lease. So if
39:43
Speaker 2: the area looks better and the area is activated, it's
39:47
Speaker 2: a whole lot easier to lease your property or your
39:51
Speaker 2: office or your apartment when you have that going on.
39:55
Speaker 5: Absolutely talking to Susan Salisbury again from the Charleston area line.
39:58
Speaker 5: So Dave Allen showing five eighty Lives brought to you
40:00
Speaker 5: in part by Snap Fitness, with a wide array of
40:02
Speaker 5: professional welded services including customized personal training, license recovery experts,
40:06
Speaker 5: and the staff of dietitians. Five convenient locations Charleston, Hurricane, Winfield, Barbersville,
40:11
Speaker 5: and Milton businessnatfitness dot com for the tails Susie. What
40:14
Speaker 5: has been the response from these business owners and the
40:18
Speaker 5: property owners? What's been their overall response?
40:21
Speaker 2: It's been really good, really really good. We also produced
40:27
Speaker 2: just for the property owners. We produced a little newsletter
40:30
Speaker 2: and every time we produce that, like we did a
40:33
Speaker 2: couple of them leading up to the bike race. Obviously
40:35
Speaker 2: this area was very impacted by the US cycling event,
40:41
Speaker 2: I mean in a great way, but it also required
40:44
Speaker 2: these property owners letting their tenants know that they had
40:47
Speaker 2: to exit the Perking garage before a certain time, especially
40:50
Speaker 2: when the Downtown Criterion.
40:52
Speaker 8: Was going on.
40:53
Speaker 2: So that was a big communication challenge for us and
40:58
Speaker 2: between Sydney gill Us the big Ambassador, and then we
41:01
Speaker 2: did written communication to all the property owners to let
41:05
Speaker 2: them know.
41:07
Speaker 8: We got back a lot of response like.
41:08
Speaker 2: Oh, you all were not gonna let us forget that
41:12
Speaker 2: we needed to move our cars and said.
41:14
Speaker 8: No, that's that's our goal.
41:16
Speaker 3: Put one of the two or.
41:17
Speaker 2: Yes or else you're not removing it till midnight, right,
41:22
Speaker 2: So we it's really.
41:23
Speaker 8: A communication tool just letting them know.
41:25
Speaker 2: So we we send this information to the property owners
41:29
Speaker 2: and then it's their responsibility to get it to all
41:31
Speaker 2: their tenants, so offices, businesses, their residents.
41:38
Speaker 3: Well we let you go.
41:39
Speaker 5: What other exciting stuff have you got going on with
41:42
Speaker 5: the Charleston area lines, Well.
41:44
Speaker 8: We have happening right now.
41:46
Speaker 2: Is that we had a little rainy start with our
41:48
Speaker 2: downtown open Okay, Yeah, we're.
41:50
Speaker 8: So excited it came back again.
41:51
Speaker 2: This is our ninth year and we're going to thank
41:54
Speaker 2: Hendrickson Long for their title sponsorship this year.
41:57
Speaker 8: Just thrilled to have them.
41:58
Speaker 2: We have twenty seven holes that are located on Capitol Street,
42:01
Speaker 2: Hale Street, and a little bit of Choer Street near
42:08
Speaker 2: the library. But we have businesses, we have nonprofit organizations
42:12
Speaker 2: that have created these holes. We provide them in the
42:15
Speaker 2: blank the blank hole and it's either in the I,
42:19
Speaker 2: an L, or a T. And those are made by
42:21
Speaker 2: Ben Franklin students down in Dunbar, which is a great partner. Yeah,
42:26
Speaker 2: so they have to act like a business. The Ben
42:28
Speaker 2: Franklin students working with us give us a quote on
42:33
Speaker 2: what it's going to take to build these, then they
42:35
Speaker 2: order the supplies. Now we go and pay for it.
42:39
Speaker 2: So it's been a real learning experience, a real life
42:41
Speaker 2: learning experience where the students have been Franklin and they've
42:44
Speaker 2: been with us all nine years and so we love it.
42:47
Speaker 2: We love it, Thank you Kennon County Schools. But it's
42:51
Speaker 2: open really any time of the day. You pick up
42:55
Speaker 2: your powder and your balls that you can borrow at
42:58
Speaker 2: Taylor Books, Adelphius Words Bar and Grill Art and Porium
43:01
Speaker 2: or Tony the Taylor. You can pick it up at
43:04
Speaker 2: Tony the Taylor and return it to Taylor Book so
43:07
Speaker 2: it doesn't have to be returned to the same place.
43:09
Speaker 2: So we have putters of all different sizes and you
43:12
Speaker 2: just you go out and play the course. A little
43:14
Speaker 2: thing we did different this year's We made the scorecard
43:17
Speaker 2: so that you just hit a QR code on our
43:20
Speaker 2: signs on all of the holes and that takes your
43:22
Speaker 2: way up to your scorecard. So we no longer have
43:25
Speaker 2: the scorecards. You know that sometimes will blow around in
43:28
Speaker 2: the wind, and so we've eliminated that issue. So you
43:33
Speaker 2: do it all on and then you can save it
43:34
Speaker 2: on your phone for when you come back again. It's
43:38
Speaker 2: just it's real fun. It's a real team building for
43:41
Speaker 2: the organizations and the businesses that participate because they're coming
43:46
Speaker 2: together as a team to design the hole. We do
43:51
Speaker 2: ask that they do it so that it's bomb proof.
43:55
Speaker 2: That's hard to do because you're dealing with a lot
43:57
Speaker 2: of the elements of weather.
43:59
Speaker 8: Like I said, when we put the US up, it
44:00
Speaker 8: was windy, it was raining and then.
44:04
Speaker 2: But really the biggest bomb proof is children love this
44:09
Speaker 2: event and they will trample all over these holes trying
44:14
Speaker 2: to get the perfect shot. So we we're just thrilled that.
44:20
Speaker 8: We're able to do it again.
44:22
Speaker 2: It will close June to twenty second, So we kicked
44:24
Speaker 2: it off with festival. It'll be up for the Pride
44:28
Speaker 2: Festival this weekend and then we'll take it down June
44:31
Speaker 2: twenty seconds so the city has ample time to get
44:33
Speaker 2: ready for the Charleston Sturn World.
44:34
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, oh yeah, that little thing.
44:36
Speaker 8: Yeah, that little thing's coming right behind, Suzie.
44:38
Speaker 3: We got to leave it there.
44:39
Speaker 5: Where can people learn more about any of the things

49:01
Speaker 5: Well, I've done done it twice because Rich contacted me
49:05
Speaker 5: yesterday and so I put it up yesterday. And I
49:07
Speaker 5: have not talked to mister Klein to know whether it
49:09
Speaker 5: is still on the market or not.
49:10
Speaker 3: I'm presuming he will let me know. They move quick.
49:14
Speaker 3: They definitely moved.
49:15
Speaker 5: And I was talking to Kelly Steele earlier for Putnam
49:18
Speaker 5: County Tourism about the growth in Winfield right now. You know,
49:21
Speaker 5: Tay's Valley has always been the place that was growing.
49:23
Speaker 5: Winfield is awesome as well. They're building more town homes
49:28
Speaker 5: in Winfield. They're building at least that there's plans for
49:30
Speaker 5: a couple of more subdivisions. Yeah, coming into Winfield right now.
49:34
Speaker 5: I mean, there's so much stuff going on at Putnam
49:36
Speaker 5: County right now.
49:37
Speaker 18: Big growth in the Greater Tays Metroplex, in the Greater
49:40
Speaker 18: And I'm the mayor, you know, I know you are
49:41
Speaker 18: the greater the one that gave me that title, the
49:44
Speaker 18: mayor of Tays Valley. Everybody knows you're You're in the community.
49:48

Speaker 3: You deserve it, kiddy.
50:04
Speaker 18: Well, it's on the Big Show today, man, So we
50:06
Speaker 18: got a lot coming up on the quote unquote Big Show.
50:10
Speaker 18: Eric Tarr will join us. He is a senator of
50:14
Speaker 18: course from Putnam County, and we will continue the debate
50:19
Speaker 18: that is a rift in the Republican Party, especially in
50:22
Speaker 18: the Senate, around just how effective we have been with
50:25
Speaker 18: economic development and Republican priorities and how they've changed. But
50:29
Speaker 18: they've not changed for everyone in the Senate. I think
50:32
Speaker 18: it's fair to say Tar is still old school when
50:35
Speaker 18: it comes to a lot of the Republican priorities, lawsuits
50:39
Speaker 18: being one. You know, we talked about that yesterday with
50:41
Speaker 18: Causes of Action with Brian Helton. So we'll continue that
50:44
Speaker 18: debate today with Tar. He has a different I wouldn't
50:48
Speaker 18: call it unique, but a different perspective. Coming up at
50:51
Speaker 18: ten thirty three, Doug has he's an advocate for this
50:53
Speaker 18: disabled He's going to talk about snap cuts. He's going
50:56
Speaker 18: to talk about Medicaid cuts and how that will affect
50:59
Speaker 18: the working disabled. So we want to tell that story.
51:02
Speaker 18: We want to understand it better. Longtime advocate for those folks.
51:06
Speaker 18: We'll talk with him. Mon County Delegate Gino Shiarelli. Methadone
51:10
Speaker 18: clinics and the debate about methadone clinics is back front
51:14
Speaker 18: and center. We want to talk with him about that.
51:16
Speaker 18: He thinks they're effective, so we want to talk about
51:19
Speaker 18: why they have the stigma they do, what challenges come
51:22
Speaker 18: with that, and get into that debate. Jared Halprin on
51:25
Speaker 18: the Big Beautiful Bill All Things Trump, the big you
51:27
Speaker 18: know dust up between Trump and Elon Musk.
51:29
Speaker 5: Elon must pulling no punches on this man, and he's
51:32
Speaker 5: got crad Man, He's got weight, So we're gonna have
51:34
Speaker 5: to see how that goes down.
51:35
Speaker 18: Brad Mack back on the show. That's eleven thirty three.
51:40
Speaker 18: We're happy to have him. It should be a fun show.
51:42
Speaker 3: It always is. Yeah, and I will be listening.
51:45
