- 1:03Speaker 2: Roll with us.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Chad, Kentucky's improved, but they're not one of those teams
- 1:08Speaker 1: that should be coming back trailing by double digits on
- 1:11Speaker 1: the road in the SEC. And that's exactly what happened
- 1:14Speaker 1: this week as South Carolina loses again. And yet again,
- 1:19Speaker 1: South Carolina's up like 17-0, right?
- 1:22Speaker 2: And then we see the comeback.
- 1:25Speaker 1: That can't happen, but I believe it did Based on
- 1:30Speaker 1: the locker room starting to just kind of... If they're
- 1:33Speaker 1: not throwing in the towel, they're not all the way
- 1:35Speaker 1: bought in. When Beamer's talking about, man, just an excellent practice. Man,
- 1:40Speaker 1: this locker room, we're tight. If you don't want to
- 1:42Speaker 1: be with the group that's all together, then we're going to.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Show you the door. Whatever.
- 1:47Speaker 1: You can't speak things into existence if things are starting
- 1:51Speaker 1: to deteriorate. I believe he had it. I don't think
- 1:55Speaker 1: he's got it now. And ultimately, that's going to doom
- 1:58Speaker 1: any chance... of saving what is a death march right now.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yeah, South Carolina has blown double-digit leads in three of
- 2:06Speaker 2: their last four conference games, Hutton. They had a 30-3
- 2:09Speaker 2: lead a year ago at A & M, lost 31-30,
- 2:13Speaker 2: 16-0 lead over Mississippi State. They lost 41-34, 17-0 over
- 2:19Speaker 2: Kentucky at home, and lost 35-34. It felt like when
- 2:24Speaker 2: that two-point conversion was called, by the way, credit the
- 2:27Speaker 2: balls of Will Stein, To say, yeah, we're going to
- 2:29Speaker 2: go for two in the win. And to have a
- 2:31Speaker 2: play drawn up where you get a guy wide open
- 2:32Speaker 2: in the back of the end zone. Beautiful job by him.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Really like what he's done with that Kentucky program quickly.
- 2:38Speaker 2: But it did feel like not necessarily the passing of
- 2:42Speaker 2: the torch, but the torch being extinguished from one coach
- 2:45Speaker 2: to the next. I agree. Take your torch and leave.
- 2:50Speaker 2: You now may extinguish your flame. That's what it felt
- 2:52Speaker 2: like Will Stein was saying to Shane Beamer in that moment.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I like Shane Beamer. He's done some really nice things
- 2:58Speaker 2: in South Carolina. There is some speculation for people that
- 3:01Speaker 2: cover the program that he's going to be safe because
- 3:03Speaker 2: they don't have the money for the buyout they're going
- 3:06Speaker 2: to owe him and to pay another coach. So he may,
- 3:09Speaker 2: by default, get another year just based on this. There's
- 3:13Speaker 2: a lot of talk about just the nature of the
- 3:15Speaker 2: sport now, too, where it feels like the pressure's always
- 3:19Speaker 2: been there, but it feels like the toxicity of a
- 3:23Speaker 2: fan base is can sour even quicker now because of
- 3:27Speaker 2: the knowledge of money that's at hand for players and
- 3:30Speaker 2: everything else and coaches. And you create this system where
- 3:34Speaker 2: the conference is so good and so deep and there's
- 3:36Speaker 2: so much parity that fans are having a hard time understanding.
- 3:40Speaker 2: You might take it on the chin from one weekend
- 3:42Speaker 2: to the next. Florida is a great example. The way
- 3:44Speaker 2: they looked against Ole Miss, now the way they come
- 3:46Speaker 2: back and get just housed on the road at Missouri.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Ole Miss the week before, national story. beats Lane Kiffin
- 3:52Speaker 2: in LSU, goes to Florida and gets rocked. Then suddenly
- 3:56Speaker 2: they don't look nearly as good. This is going to
- 3:58Speaker 2: be a week-to-week story in really not just the SEC
- 4:02Speaker 2: but across the country too. I just don't see any
- 4:06Speaker 2: way the way this thing is trending now for Shane
- 4:09Speaker 2: Beamer in South Carolina that as an administration they could
- 4:13Speaker 2: with a straight face say, yeah, we're going to keep
- 4:15Speaker 2: this guy for another year. Yeah, so the toxicity from.
- 4:19Speaker 1: The fan base, it's not just, hey, the conference is
- 4:23Speaker 1: really good, so week to week you may win some lose.
- 4:26Speaker 1: They've been up by double digits now in their conference games,
- 4:30Speaker 1: and this is now the fourth time we've seen them fall.
- 4:33Speaker 1: You just lay that out there. They're on an eight-game
- 4:34Speaker 1: losing streak there. Right now, sure, I can't find the money.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Considering buyouts, this is a low buyout, considering buyouts. They'll
- 4:46Speaker 1: find the money if this continues. Because someone will step
- 4:49Speaker 1: up and be like, I'm tired of doing this. Because
- 4:55Speaker 1: where we are right now, if you don't have the
- 4:57Speaker 1: buyout money for a low buyout, Chad, you don't.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Have a chance to compete.
- 5:03Speaker 1: And it's not like they've got a terrible roster. They
- 5:05Speaker 1: have a talented roster. Because they continue to have players
- 5:10Speaker 1: that are NFL worthy. That are not just NFL worthy,
- 5:14Speaker 1: that are... number one, number two off the board at
- 5:17Speaker 1: their position. So with that in mind, the results have
- 5:22Speaker 1: to be there. And I respect Shane Beamer. I really
- 5:25Speaker 1: like the guy because he takes it on the chin.
- 5:27Speaker 2: He's honest.
- 5:28Speaker 1: He doesn't mind a tough question. He'll answer it honestly.
- 5:32Speaker 1: And he's at the podium postgame just going, yeah, look,
- 5:34Speaker 1: I understand this is not good enough, but no, I
- 5:38Speaker 1: haven't heard anything from the administration. I, If it's happening now,
- 5:43Speaker 1: it's not going to get any better. They've got Florida
- 5:45Speaker 1: coming up now. When you're dropping games to Mississippi State
- 5:50Speaker 1: and Kentucky, it's not like you look at the horizon
- 5:52Speaker 1: and be like, oh, we have a chance to turn
- 5:54Speaker 1: this around.
- 5:55Speaker 2: We've got Mississippi State and Kentucky coming up. No, no, no, no.
- 5:57Speaker 1: You've already dropped those games. Up next is the juggernaut.
- 6:03Speaker 2: If South Carolina was Vandy this year, if they were
- 6:06Speaker 2: starting a talented, true freshman quarterback, If it felt like
- 6:10Speaker 2: a reset, even after a disappointing last year, I think
- 6:13Speaker 2: you could easily sell that to the fan base and
- 6:15Speaker 2: everyone else and say, look, we like we have a quarterback.
- 6:17Speaker 2: We got some young pieces are going to be really
- 6:19Speaker 2: good a year from now. This is a growing season.
- 6:22Speaker 2: That's going to be tough at times. We're going to
- 6:24Speaker 2: stick with our guy. We believe in his mission. We
- 6:26Speaker 2: believe in the message, the team. We believe in what
- 6:28Speaker 2: he's done and what he will do. You could sell
- 6:30Speaker 2: it at that point. Problem is they're coming off a
- 6:32Speaker 2: disappointing year and they convinced Lenora Sellers to not transfer.
- 6:37Speaker 2: They convince Nick Harbour to not transfer. They convince Dylan
- 6:40Speaker 2: Stewart to not transfer and stay and come back for
- 6:43Speaker 2: another year, who's currently not even with the team, who's
- 6:45Speaker 2: suspended indefinitely after just outward disrespect towards the entire coaching
- 6:50Speaker 2: staff on the sideline in front of everyone. You mix
- 6:54Speaker 2: it with all those things together, and it's a tough
- 6:56Speaker 2: sell because this looks like the year where South Carolina,
- 7:00Speaker 2: coming in, they were a dark horse. Hey, this team
- 7:03Speaker 2: could be what I thought Mississippi State could be. This year, right?
- 7:06Speaker 2: The Dark Horse, they're very talented. They're veteran. They've got
- 7:10Speaker 2: three dudes that are going to be high NFL draft
- 7:12Speaker 2: picks possibly. This is what this team could be this year.
- 7:15Speaker 2: And now falling to 0-3 in conference, staring down the
- 7:21Speaker 2: barrel of a trip to the swamp, and you're going
- 7:23Speaker 2: to have an angry Florida team based on John Sumrall's
- 7:26Speaker 2: postgame comments after he said it was an embarrassing performance.
- 7:29Speaker 2: And like a man, they've got to own the performance
- 7:32Speaker 2: and admit it and move forward. It's not going to
- 7:34Speaker 2: be pretty. in the swamp this week for Shane Beamer.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Then the talk becomes they get a bye week after that,
- 7:40Speaker 2: then they host Tennessee. So will Tennessee be facing an
- 7:44Speaker 2: interim coach because the bye week's going to be in
- 7:47Speaker 2: between both of them for that October 24th game? That's
- 7:52Speaker 2: a big question mark. I don't know. These buyouts are extreme.
- 7:56Speaker 2: He re-upped recently after that good year before last year's
- 7:59Speaker 2: bad year. So it's going to cost South Carolina a
- 8:01Speaker 2: ton of money.
- 8:03Speaker 1: But in regards to the ton, it's a lot of money,
- 8:05Speaker 1: but it's $ 24 million.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:08Speaker 1: You know, it's not the, what is it, for Lincoln Riley,
- 8:13Speaker 1: who got a nice win, like 70. But it's the
- 8:17Speaker 1: extreme of the opposite. If you can't afford the 20,
- 8:19Speaker 1: if you're waiting on the buyout to go down by
- 8:20Speaker 1: $ 2 million, then don't give the large buyouts. But it's
- 8:24Speaker 1: going to happen. You know, does he make more than Vrabel?
- 8:27Speaker 1: He's going to when he gets fired. We used to
- 8:30Speaker 1: play that game. Does this coach make more than Braywell?
- 8:32Speaker 1: Shane Bieber will. That's nuts, man. Bama, meanwhile, how about
- 8:41Speaker 1: the Crimson Tide, who took care of business?
- 8:46Speaker 3: 56-23.
- 8:47Speaker 2: They put up 56 points on the road. This Kalen
- 8:51Speaker 2: DeBoer offense with Keelan Russell, is the best in the
- 8:54Speaker 2: conference right now. I'm calling it. We're over a third
- 8:59Speaker 2: of the way through the season, and based on what
- 9:01Speaker 2: we've seen, Alabama has the best offense in the SEC.
- 9:05Speaker 2: They are going to be difficult for everyone. They are
- 9:07Speaker 2: a problem for this entire conference. I think, Hutton, right
- 9:10Speaker 2: now you've got three teams that have separated themselves in
- 9:12Speaker 2: the SEC. Alabama, Georgia, who will play this week, Texas
- 9:16Speaker 2: is the third with that win over Ohio State, and
- 9:19Speaker 2: then the win on the road in Knoxville. Those are
- 9:22Speaker 2: the three teams that look different and better than everyone else.
- 9:26Speaker 2: LSU will have something to say about that, I think,
- 9:28Speaker 2: as the year goes on. By the way, LSU at
- 9:31Speaker 2: Kentucky this week, sneaky, top-notch game, and a big-time problem
- 9:37Speaker 2: for LSU going on the road with what we've seen
- 9:39Speaker 2: from Will Stein and Kentucky recently. I think LSU handles
- 9:42Speaker 2: business in that one, but I'm putting that upper echelon.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Those three, to me, are in a different league. right
- 9:47Speaker 2: now than everyone else in the conference based on what
- 9:50Speaker 2: we've seen so far. But also what we've seen so
- 9:52Speaker 2: far is it's week to week. We really don't know.
- 9:55Speaker 2: It's going to be a different story every single week,
- 9:57Speaker 2: even for those teams. And of course, Oklahoma gets a
- 9:59Speaker 2: chance to say their season this weekend in the Red
- 10:02Speaker 2: River shootout against Texas. So a big opportunity for them.
- 10:06Speaker 1: And Tennessee's will come up in a week from now,
- 10:08Speaker 1: as long as they take care of business against Arkansas. Chad,
- 10:10Speaker 1: just thoughts on Bama. The defense with the turnovers that
- 10:14Speaker 1: they were able to take advantage of set up that
- 10:17Speaker 1: offense in that game.
- 10:18Speaker 2: That was.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Man, just not meeting the moment. Mississippi State doesn't meet
- 10:22Speaker 1: the moment right there. The way going into the game
- 10:28Speaker 1: is how we would feel probably this week about Kentucky, right?
- 10:32Speaker 1: And again, it's South Carolina. Well, Mississippi State is getting
- 10:36Speaker 1: the win over Missouri. And then you have, now you're
- 10:41Speaker 1: hosting LSU.
- 10:43Speaker 2: And there's going to be some hype behind Will Stein.
- 10:44Speaker 2: That's great.
- 10:46Speaker 1: But, yeah, I'm with you. I think LSU will get
- 10:48Speaker 1: that done. But the whole deal with Mississippi State is
- 10:53Speaker 1: just they came out flat. They look confused. Quarterbacks throwing
- 10:56Speaker 1: right to defenders. Credit Alabama's defense. Offense is very efficient.
- 11:02Speaker 1: And you're not going to beat Bama whenever you're turning
- 11:04Speaker 1: it over as often as they were.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Keelan Russell, 16 for 22, 285, three touchdowns, no interceptions.
- 11:12Speaker 2: QBR of 96.8. It is his ability to run. I'll
- 11:17Speaker 2: say this because he didn't really run in this game.
- 11:18Speaker 2: He had like 17 yards rushing. It's his threat of
- 11:21Speaker 2: running mixed with his precision accuracy deep down the field
- 11:26Speaker 2: that makes him such a threat. Because when he gets
- 11:30Speaker 2: loose also, it's not just, oh, he's going to take
- 11:33Speaker 2: off and get seven yards. This guy could put it
- 11:35Speaker 2: on a dime for a gain of 45 down the
- 11:37Speaker 2: field with guys streaking open. So he's a problem. He's
- 11:41Speaker 2: only a redshirt freshman. He's going to be a problem.
- 11:44Speaker 2: for everyone in the SEC. Super impressed with Alabama. And
- 11:47Speaker 2: with this tropical storm coming up through the Gulf this week,
- 11:50Speaker 2: I'm looking at radar, and right now it looks like
- 11:53Speaker 2: an absolute monsoon in Tuscaloosa on Saturday. So that could
- 11:57Speaker 2: be a grounded-out type game and really hurt. I think
- 12:01Speaker 2: that helps Georgia in that situation with Alabama's offense if
- 12:04Speaker 2: they can be grounded because of really bad weather. We'll
- 12:07Speaker 2: continue to monitor the weather situation all week in that game,
- 12:10Speaker 2: but can't wait for this one on Saturday, Hutton. Again, Alabama, Georgia,
- 12:13Speaker 2: Texas to me have separated from the rest of the conference.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Coming up, coaches gone wild. We've got plenty to discuss.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Coaches gone wild. Weekly segment now.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Weekly segment as we'll get the best press conference footage
- 12:26Speaker 2: and we'll have our coaches gone wild every single week.
- 12:28Speaker 1: It's our version of the coaches white t-shirt contest coming
- 12:31Speaker 1: up here.

- 13:39Speaker 1: Man, We are seeing coaches, we mentioned coaches gone wild,
- 13:46Speaker 1: whether they're telling it like it is in an interview
- 13:49Speaker 1: chat or reacting in a certain way. Deion, we haven't
- 13:54Speaker 1: heard from old prime in a while. We haven't heard
- 13:57Speaker 1: from prime time. And, well, that's because they're not playing
- 14:02Speaker 1: in prime time. Neither is the offense. Here's Deion Sanders
- 14:06Speaker 1: discussing Colorado's offensive efforts.
- 14:09Speaker 2: In just within these last few weeks, what is the
- 14:11Speaker 2: main contributor on why the offense is not producing?
- 14:15Speaker 3: You know what it is. I said you're going to
- 14:17Speaker 3: run with it. You know darn well what it is.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Just say it right at yourselves. You know what it is.
- 14:23Speaker 3: It ain't no– it's blatant. It ain't no ifs, ands,
- 14:27Speaker 3: buts about it. I would respect you all a lot
- 14:30Speaker 3: more if you all just said it yourself.
- 14:33Speaker 2: So that Hutton is a coach who is, without saying it,
- 14:37Speaker 2: because he doesn't want to be the one who rolls
- 14:39Speaker 2: one of his players under the bus, saying that the
- 14:41Speaker 2: issue is quarterback play and the quarterback is the issue
- 14:44Speaker 2: with the offense. And how do I know, Hutton, that
- 14:47Speaker 2: that's what he's saying? Because when asked about why he
- 14:50Speaker 2: benched Juju Lewis, here was his response.
- 14:55Speaker 4: Hey, Coach. Brian Howe from buffblitz.com. Obviously, you benched Juju
- 14:59Speaker 4: from first to third string, it looks like. Then Isaac
- 15:02Speaker 4: didn't play well.
- 15:03Speaker 3: I would love Juju to come here and he tell
- 15:05Speaker 3: you what happens.
- 15:07Speaker 2: So don't you.
- 15:08Speaker 3: Bench Juju first to third string?
- 15:09Speaker 2: No, that's not how it went down.
- 15:12Speaker 4: Well, that's what it looked like, so I'm just asking.
- 15:15Speaker 3: It didn't happen like that.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Okay.
- 15:17Speaker 4: But you benched Juju, and then Isaac doesn't play well.
- 15:20Speaker 4: As you go into this bye week, is it an
- 15:21Speaker 4: open competition at quarterback?
- 15:22Speaker 2: It's always open competition.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Every darn day is open competition. That's the position that
- 15:26Speaker 3: is somewhat disabling us and disarming us.
- 15:30Speaker 4: Every day is like that.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Do you feel that? Well, derd. Gosh, derd. And I'm
- 15:36Speaker 2: going to start referring to things as that's what's somewhat
- 15:38Speaker 2: disabling us and disarming us right now. That's a very
- 15:42Speaker 2: nice way of saying the quarterback sucks, and that's why
- 15:44Speaker 2: we can't do anything on offense. It's a position that's
- 15:47Speaker 2: somewhat disabling us and disarming us right now, as I
- 15:51Speaker 2: say this. Deion Sanders is the king of... Instead of
- 15:55Speaker 2: just directly answering a question or not answering a question,
- 16:00Speaker 2: of saying an answer that I find enjoyable every time
- 16:04Speaker 2: that brings about 15 more questions into play. I mean,
- 16:08Speaker 2: he did this earlier when he said, hey, there's some
- 16:10Speaker 2: guys back there who are no longer on the team.
- 16:12Speaker 2: I just kick some guys off the team. And then
- 16:14Speaker 2: the week of, everybody's back in practice. No one's kicked
- 16:17Speaker 2: off the team. I don't know what he's talking about.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Everyone's asking questions about who's still on the team, who's not,
- 16:22Speaker 2: and he doesn't answer after that. He loves postgame to
- 16:25Speaker 2: just start throwing things out there that bring on more questions.
- 16:29Speaker 1: So he tells the media, you go and write it.
- 16:32Speaker 1: If I say it becomes a story, are they allowed
- 16:34Speaker 1: to write it? They're not allowed to report on practice.
- 16:37Speaker 1: They can't report on anything, stretch, nothing. Absolutely no detail.
- 16:44Speaker 1: You can't write. You can't transcribe. You cannot voice message.
- 16:47Speaker 1: You cannot video. You can't use sign language. They listed everything.
- 16:55Speaker 1: You can't sew these letters into a report. I have
- 16:59Speaker 1: no idea what the media policy is in Colorado because
- 17:04Speaker 1: the media is not allowed to tell us. So are
- 17:07Speaker 1: they allowed to just go ahead and say it? Also, man,
- 17:12Speaker 1: go ahead and say it because you've always done that.
- 17:15Speaker 1: You kicked how many players off when you arrived? Beating
- 17:18Speaker 1: your chest about it. Whenever you win, you want the
- 17:21Speaker 1: media to, are you guys going to ask a question now?
- 17:23Speaker 2: Now what? You know, like, Ed Werner, go ahead.
- 17:28Speaker 1: You know, like, be fair with what this is. And
- 17:34Speaker 1: they're back at practice, Chad, because Dio's the one that brought.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Those dudes in. He also said, that's not what happened.
- 17:40Speaker 2: When they said, you benched Juju and went to, he's like,
- 17:43Speaker 2: I didn't say that. Well, you need to get, let's
- 17:46Speaker 2: get Juju in here. You can ask him what happened.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Did he take himself out of the game? Did he quit?
- 17:50Speaker 2: I mean, what exactly happened? Because we've got another example
- 17:53Speaker 2: in our Coach Has Gone Wild segment. Yes, we do.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Of a coach who quit after being told something that
- 17:58Speaker 2: he didn't like. He wasn't fired. Let's make a distinction here.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Jim Mora Jr., first year at Colorado State, had a
- 18:05Speaker 2: new defensive coordinator and a new defensive play caller during
- 18:08Speaker 2: the game, and here was his explanation as to why
- 18:10Speaker 2: it happened. We didn't see Tyson on the sidelines in
- 18:14Speaker 2: the second half. Did you elect to make a change there?
- 18:17Speaker 5: Tyson was relieved of his play-calling duties. He left the field,
- 18:22Speaker 5: and he's no longer with this football program. That's a
- 18:27Speaker 5: permanent thing.
- 18:28Speaker 2: That is a permanent. So can he take over SDC then?
- 18:30Speaker 5: Kenny will be the primary play-caller. He was put in
- 18:36Speaker 5: a very difficult situation tonight, and he responded well, and
- 18:39Speaker 5: the players responded well. The very first play he called
- 18:43Speaker 5: as a defensive coordinator his entire life was a sack-cause fumble.
- 18:46Speaker 5: So we're going to get better.
- 18:48Speaker 2: We're going to get a lot better.
- 18:49Speaker 5: He's a good football coach.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Did you anticipate that he would leave the field when
- 18:53Speaker 2: he was relieved?
- 18:54Speaker 5: That wasn't anything that I would ever consider. I just
- 18:58Speaker 5: relieved him of his duties as a play caller. He
- 19:00Speaker 5: made the decision on his own to leave the field,
- 19:02Speaker 5: and he is no longer with the program.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Yeah, so they take play calling away duties from him,
- 19:08Speaker 1: and he says– See you guys.
- 19:11Speaker 2: I'm headed home. I'm out of here. GTFO. You think
- 19:14Speaker 2: he handed over his binder and his play sheet to
- 19:17Speaker 2: the other guy and said, yeah, have fun, man. Enjoy
- 19:19Speaker 2: working with this guy. You're going to have a blast
- 19:22Speaker 2: after he relieved him of his duties. Crazy, crazy weekend
- 19:26Speaker 2: in the state of Colorado for college football between Deion
- 19:29Speaker 2: Sanders and Jim Mora Jr. That guy, by the way,
- 19:32Speaker 2: is wild. Jim Mora Jr. He is. People who work
- 19:36Speaker 2: for him and The way he behaves at times, he's
- 19:39Speaker 2: a wild man.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Yes, to say the least. Also, same thing for P.J.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Fleck.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Check out the celebration. They get the job done. Minnesota
- 19:49Speaker 1: beats Michigan. And he's drinking and chugging out of the jug. Well,
- 19:56Speaker 1: it's definitely earned. Look at this guy.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Row your boat, man.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Man, for all of the messages and all the cheesy
- 20:05Speaker 1: slogans and stuff, this dude is all in.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Look at this guy. It looks like he's at a rave.
- 20:14Speaker 2: I feel like he's in a full body cast on Sundays.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Just from the amount of effort he puts forth to
- 20:19Speaker 2: celebrate and be on the sideline.
- 20:21Speaker 1: The amount of steps he gets in on the sideline.
- 20:23Speaker 2: He's not a young guy anymore. And he is strong.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Look at the leap up in the arms of players.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Look at him scream here. We need some neon lights
- 20:34Speaker 1: to glow in the dark here. This guy is just...
- 20:37Speaker 1: What's he like on a normal day? You think he
- 20:40Speaker 1: goes to Burning Man? When it's not game day. Imagine
- 20:43Speaker 1: this guy drunk. That's how crazy he would be.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Yeah, he's wild. He rubbed blood on his face last week.
- 20:50Speaker 2: And one of his players was bleeding. He grabbed the
- 20:52Speaker 2: blood and smeared it all over his face when he
- 20:55Speaker 2: was celebrating with one of his players. Hey, I'll say
- 20:58Speaker 2: this too, man. P.J. Fleck. an example of just stick
- 21:02Speaker 2: with it with somebody and you get good results based
- 21:05Speaker 2: on the program you're at, which that, that, uh, that
- 21:08Speaker 2: level of patience isn't going to exist in college football
- 21:10Speaker 2: right now. And I know a part of it is
- 21:12Speaker 2: he's not gotten the job that he wants to leave.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Minnesota probably would have left at some point if he
- 21:18Speaker 2: had a great opportunity, but he's getting it done. And
- 21:21Speaker 2: he's been there for a while now at that program.
- 21:23Speaker 2: So good for him, bad, bad for Michigan. Um, They
- 21:27Speaker 2: need to consider doing what Josh Heupel did on Saturday.
- 21:30Speaker 2: I mean, it's time to go with somebody else other
- 21:32Speaker 2: than Bryce Underwood, regardless.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Of what they're paying him. I felt like they tried to,
- 21:36Speaker 1: and then they won against Oklahoma. They were looking for
- 21:41Speaker 1: that move early, because the coach was certainly willing to
- 21:44Speaker 1: say it publicly. Imagine P.J. Fleck in a job interview, Chad.
- 21:50Speaker 1: I mean, it would be too much. I mean, it
- 21:54Speaker 1: would be the opposite end of the spectrum of Mike McDaniel.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Well, and Kyle Whittingham is saying, I've been in this
- 22:00Speaker 2: profession for 41 years, I think he said. He's like,
- 22:02Speaker 2: this is the most challenging team I've been around.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Because of what they were allowed to get away with.
- 22:09Speaker 1: There's no telling what that dude walked into in that
- 22:11Speaker 1: football program.
- 22:12Speaker 2: I think you also, the idea is you hire Kyle Whittingham.
- 22:17Speaker 2: He's going to replicate Utah with better resources and with
- 22:20Speaker 2: a better program and a better fan base and all that, right?
- 22:23Speaker 2: Bigger everything. And he's going to do what he did
- 22:26Speaker 2: at Utah. The problem is what you can do at
- 22:29Speaker 2: Utah with the players you recruit, oftentimes it's got to
- 22:32Speaker 2: be a different approach at a Michigan with guys and
- 22:35Speaker 2: what they're promised and what they're getting paid and what's
- 22:38Speaker 2: going on within that roster. So not every job, it's
- 22:42Speaker 2: not just as easy to say, let's take Utah and
- 22:44Speaker 2: Salt Lake City and pick it up, pull the roots
- 22:48Speaker 2: down and put roots down in Ann Arbor and do
- 22:51Speaker 2: it the exact same way we did at Utah, but
- 22:52Speaker 2: with better players. It would work that way. If he
- 22:56Speaker 2: can do that, it's going to work and work very well.
- 23:00Speaker 2: I believe that with him at Michigan. But it's easier
- 23:04Speaker 2: said than done based on what you're inheriting, the situation
- 23:08Speaker 2: of the players on that roster and everything else. We're
- 23:09Speaker 2: seeing that at Michigan this year because they look very
- 23:12Speaker 2: average as a football team. They're a very average Big
- 23:15Speaker 2: Ten team right now. Nothing better, nothing worse.
- 23:17Speaker 1: He inherits a total mess, but I said at the time,
- 23:20Speaker 1: that's the guy they had to go after because he
- 23:22Speaker 1: comes in, he can stabilize things, do it his way.
- 23:26Speaker 1: But you have to allow him to build things and
- 23:29Speaker 1: cut your losses. I'm with you on the quarterback play, man.
- 23:34Speaker 1: The question is, is he going to have full autonomy
- 23:38Speaker 1: to do it? My guess is yes, just based on
- 23:41Speaker 1: how things have gone and probably what he was asked
- 23:44Speaker 1: to do whenever he was hired. Man, there's a viral
- 23:51Speaker 1: thing going around about Ursae, the owner of the Colts.
- 23:55Speaker 1: And what she's doing on the sidelines. But I would
- 23:59Speaker 1: ask the question, is it anything we haven't seen before
- 24:02Speaker 1: on the sidelines for Indianapolis? It just happens to be
- 24:05Speaker 1: something that someone picked up on again. With the notepad
- 24:08Speaker 1: and much more. That's straight ahead. Is it fair or foul?
- 24:11Speaker 1: Here on Hutton and Withrow. Chad, I'm jealous because you've
- 24:14Speaker 1: got Crockett Coffee in front of you. Crockett Coffee, started
- 24:18Speaker 1: by Clay Travis, Buck Sexton, and Buck's brother, Mason.
- 24:21Speaker 2: There it is. There's the Crockett Coffee. Delicious.
- 24:24Speaker 1: David Crockett. David Crockett. Storyteller, patriot, backwards legend. And the logo, yeah,
- 24:29Speaker 1: he's surfing the backs of Crockett out. That tells you
- 24:32Speaker 1: everything about the attitude here. 100% pure Arabica, high altitude beans,
- 24:36Speaker 1: small batch roasted right here in America, Tennessee, the heart.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Of the country.
- 24:40Speaker 1: It ships fresh roasted. It's not sitting on the warehouse
- 24:42Speaker 1: shelf for six months. Light, medium, dark, decaf, organic, even
- 24:46Speaker 1: a mushroom blend, whole bean ground or K-cups, however you
- 24:49Speaker 1: make it in the morning.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Engelmorton had a real problem with the photo, the depiction
- 24:53Speaker 2: of David Crockett surfing on the back of a crocodile
- 24:56Speaker 2: because it wasn't historically accurate. David Crockett would know you
- 25:01Speaker 2: don't let facts get in the way of a good story.
- 25:04Speaker 2: And he's a narrative guy. That big narrative guy was
- 25:06Speaker 2: that David Crockett. Big narrative guys at Crockett Coffee. Free
- 25:10Speaker 2: shipping on orders for $ 59 or more. There's a discount
- 25:12Speaker 2: for veterans. Set up a subscription at the website also.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Makes it really easy to make sure you're never out.
- 25:18Speaker 2: of Crockett Coffee. Crockett partners with Tunnel to Towers, building
- 25:20Speaker 2: mortgage-free homes for the families of fallen service members and
- 25:23Speaker 2: for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. Good coffee, made
- 25:27Speaker 2: in America, doing some good. CrockettCoffee.com. That's Crockett, C-R-O-C-K-E-T-T-Coffee.com.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Carly Ursae Gordon is the owner of the Colts, Chad.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Fair or foul for her to be on the sideline,
- 25:43Speaker 1: and she's wearing a headset, she's taking notes.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Why is this a story... Well, it's a story because
- 25:49Speaker 2: she's talking to coaches and asking them questions mid-drive for
- 25:53Speaker 2: the first time that I've seen. I've seen her note-taking.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I've never seen her. I haven't seen her do that.
- 25:59Speaker 2: I've seen her note-taking on the side with the headset
- 26:01Speaker 2: up and listening to what they're saying and just kind
- 26:03Speaker 2: of silently in the background. But here is her actually
- 26:06Speaker 2: talking to coaches and asking questions during the game about
- 26:11Speaker 2: decisions they're making and what they're doing. This is her
- 26:14Speaker 2: in the game at Tottenham Hotspur. But she's coming over
- 26:17Speaker 2: asking for clarification on different things.
- 26:22Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know who that person is right there,
- 26:24Speaker 1: but if he's a coach, he's not doing very much. Yeah.
- 26:29Speaker 1: I mean, I'm just saying, like, she's been on the sideline. Like,
- 26:34Speaker 1: I don't think it's a distraction for them anymore because
- 26:35Speaker 1: she's been on the sideline for over a season now.
- 26:39Speaker 1: I wouldn't particularly like it if I'm a coach or
- 26:43Speaker 1: a player.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Oh, I think the coaches hate it. I would, too.
- 26:47Speaker 2: I mean, they absolutely hate it. Like, if you gave
- 26:50Speaker 2: any coach their choice of, you could have Carly Ursae Gordon.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Is it Gordon Ursae or Ursae Gordon?
- 26:55Speaker 1: I believe it's Ursae Gordon.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Yeah, there it is. Ursae Gordon. I flipped it in
- 26:58Speaker 2: my mind for some reason. Carly Ursae Gordon, or you
- 27:01Speaker 2: could have an owner who never shows up to the
- 27:04Speaker 2: games and just watches from somewhere else. They would take
- 27:07Speaker 2: the owner who never shows up to games. Certainly not
- 27:09Speaker 2: one that's on the sideline doing that. Nope.
- 27:12Speaker 1: We spoke with Dockage about this back then. And it
- 27:16Speaker 1: was explained that at first it was explained that she's
- 27:19Speaker 1: trying to learn about the job itself, inheriting the team,
- 27:22Speaker 1: all that stuff, right? Well, she still claims that she
- 27:26Speaker 1: doesn't use the headset to tell the team or the
- 27:29Speaker 1: coaches what to do, but more to just communicate and
- 27:33Speaker 1: organize and feel with what she's doing and what she's
- 27:37Speaker 1: looking at, why it is what they're doing and why
- 27:40Speaker 1: it doesn't or does match up. with her assessment. Look,
- 27:44Speaker 1: I mean, we can agree, disagree. I mean, I think
- 27:47Speaker 1: it's foul because I want to get out of the
- 27:49Speaker 1: way of my coaches to let them do their job.
- 27:52Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Is she really going over there saying, like, we're going
- 27:56Speaker 1: to hand off here.
- 27:57Speaker 2: What are you doing?
- 27:57Speaker 1: Like, let's do what Akron did and allow a fan
- 28:00Speaker 1: to come down here, like the owner, like me, to
- 28:02Speaker 1: come down here and call plays. I don't know if
- 28:04Speaker 1: she's doing that. It's absolutely a distraction, though. And by now,
- 28:08Speaker 1: you should have a great assessment on what you're doing
- 28:13Speaker 1: what those guys are doing on the sideline as the
- 28:15Speaker 1: owner of the team. How about go up in the
- 28:17Speaker 1: box and see what your GM's doing during the game?
- 28:19Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to say the obvious fact here, too.
- 28:23Speaker 2: She's a woman. And a lot of people are going
- 28:26Speaker 2: to respond to that and react and say she's a
- 28:28Speaker 2: woman in football. And because she's a woman, she looks
- 28:30Speaker 2: like a little girl running around and doesn't know what
- 28:32Speaker 2: she's doing, asking all the guys what's going on. And
- 28:35Speaker 2: that becomes more of a distraction. I don't think that's fair.
- 28:37Speaker 2: I would say this about any owner doing that. She
- 28:40Speaker 2: clearly knows football. and she's trying to understand more of it.
- 28:43Speaker 2: So that part of it to me is unfair, but
- 28:46Speaker 2: that is a big part of the response from a
- 28:48Speaker 2: lot of people. Now, you could do what another female
- 28:50Speaker 2: owner in the league does, an Amy Adams-Strunk, and just
- 28:53Speaker 2: have someone who's your eyes and ears that reports back
- 28:55Speaker 2: on everything they're seeing and hearing on a sideline, in
- 28:58Speaker 2: a conference room, or wherever those meetings take place. I
- 29:02Speaker 2: believe there's a better way to accomplish what Carly Ursae
- 29:05Speaker 2: Gordon is trying to accomplish without being on the sideline
- 29:09Speaker 2: talking to staffers and being right there in the middle
- 29:11Speaker 2: of a huddle the entire game or right behind the coaches,
- 29:15Speaker 2: you could do this from your owner's box. You can
- 29:18Speaker 2: have an ear into what's going on and what's being
- 29:20Speaker 2: said and what's being called, and you can jot notes
- 29:22Speaker 2: down based on how the coaches are talking to each other.
- 29:25Speaker 2: You can have someone that says, hey, vibes are really
- 29:28Speaker 2: good on the sideline during this game, or vibes are
- 29:30Speaker 2: really down, or we had this player yell at this
- 29:32Speaker 2: position coach, or we had this position coach yell at
- 29:35Speaker 2: this player. You could do it a different way without hovering.
- 29:39Speaker 2: And I think the hoveriness is what becomes a distraction
- 29:43Speaker 2: for an NFL franchise when your owner is there around
- 29:47Speaker 2: everything because it's like when the teacher's there or the
- 29:50Speaker 2: substitute teacher is there. You're going to behave differently as
- 29:53Speaker 2: a middle schooler when the actual teacher's there versus the sub. Well,
- 29:57Speaker 2: when your owner is there, You know, this is like
- 30:00Speaker 2: undercover boss. When your owner's there or your boss, you're
- 30:03Speaker 2: going to behave differently or say things differently as opposed
- 30:06Speaker 2: to when they're not there. So I don't know that
- 30:08Speaker 2: you're getting a true read on everything if you're her also. Well,
- 30:11Speaker 2: I mean, she's seen the good and the bad.
- 30:14Speaker 1: They started out last year hot, had one of the
- 30:17Speaker 1: best offenses in the NFL, then they get injured. She
- 30:20Speaker 1: keeps the staff around. I will say this, two things.
- 30:25Speaker 1: She's a woman, yes.
- 30:25Speaker 2: She's the owner. She can do whatever the hell she wants.
- 30:29Speaker 2: She's the owner. Let's say that.
- 30:30Speaker 1: And number two, she's also an Ursae. Her father was
- 30:35Speaker 1: as eclectic as they come. And aside from that, it's
- 30:39Speaker 1: so straight. He had to be the guy that tweeted
- 30:41Speaker 1: out the inactives every week. He had to be the
- 30:44Speaker 1: guy that teased whether or not they were going to
- 30:46Speaker 1: open or close the roof every week. And he had
- 30:50Speaker 1: to break that news. Or if they signed a player
- 30:52Speaker 1: or if they're bringing a guy in for a trial.
- 30:55Speaker 1: It was from his personal account. I don't mind the fact.
- 30:59Speaker 2: That she's interested. I think she's also a fan.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Because they're getting $ 500 million every August win or lose
- 31:08Speaker 1: as an NFL owner. I mean, you can be successful
- 31:10Speaker 1: and not have wins on the win-loss record as an
- 31:14Speaker 1: NFL owner. You're going to be very successful. It's a
- 31:16Speaker 1: very lucrative business. But she's taking the time to invest
- 31:21Speaker 1: into what she owns as her business and I mean,
- 31:25Speaker 1: I respect it. I also think like, man, it's a distraction.
- 31:29Speaker 1: If you're willing to learn and assess what's going on,
- 31:33Speaker 1: surely you would realize that you're one of one here.
- 31:38Speaker 1: You're one of 32, but you're one of one. There's
- 31:39Speaker 1: not another owner. Even Jerry Jones isn't coming down there
- 31:42Speaker 1: with a headset on on the sidelines.
- 31:46Speaker 2: And let's flip it and say, to a division rival
- 31:50Speaker 2: in the Titans. The knock on the Titans is, well,
- 31:52Speaker 2: the ownership and the front office only concerned about a
- 31:54Speaker 2: new stadium, new uniforms, marketing, this and that. And they
- 31:57Speaker 2: need to be serious about football. I will give her
- 32:00Speaker 2: credit and that there is no denying her commitment to
- 32:03Speaker 2: football and to understanding football as an owner. The optics
- 32:07Speaker 2: of it are bad. It's annoying to the coaches. It's
- 32:09Speaker 2: probably annoying to the players too. I don't like that
- 32:12Speaker 2: part of it, but if you're a Colts fan, I mean,
- 32:14Speaker 2: I think what you want to know, if you're a
- 32:16Speaker 2: fan of any pro team, uh, Is that owner, are
- 32:20Speaker 2: they committed to winning at the highest level? And are
- 32:23Speaker 2: they utilizing their resources that they're given from whatever market
- 32:27Speaker 2: they're in or whatever tax subsidies they're given or whatever's
- 32:30Speaker 2: happening to the best of the ability that affects winning
- 32:33Speaker 2: and or the experience of a fan? All those things
- 32:36Speaker 2: are important. That's all I want to know about an owner.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Are you committed to winning? Are you willing to spend?
- 32:41Speaker 2: Do you care about the actual sport of it? There's
- 32:44Speaker 2: no denying she cares about the actual sport of it.
- 32:47Speaker 2: There's no denying that she's not fully invested in football
- 32:50Speaker 2: and getting the football part of it right. I just
- 32:52Speaker 2: think that the messaging could improve. The optics of it
- 32:56Speaker 2: could improve with how you're going about it. Again, you're
- 33:00Speaker 2: the owner, as you said, Hutton. You can do whatever
- 33:02Speaker 2: the hell you want. Get your headset up in the
- 33:05Speaker 2: owner's box. Go sit in the tunnel. Go sit in
- 33:07Speaker 2: your own private suite, locker room, whatever you want, inside
- 33:11Speaker 2: of the stadium. Watch everything going on and listen closely.
- 33:14Speaker 2: The entire time. I can understand wanting to be a
- 33:17Speaker 2: part of it and all of that, but it's just
- 33:20Speaker 2: not the place for owners. It's just not. That's not
- 33:24Speaker 2: your spot on game day of where you should be.
- 33:26Speaker 2: But she's breaking the mold. She's one of one in
- 33:30Speaker 2: how she's doing it. Yeah, yes.
- 33:32Speaker 1: And I would say now it's just kind of what
- 33:35Speaker 1: it is in Indy. To me, it would have been
- 33:38Speaker 1: a very big distraction last year. And They started off
- 33:43Speaker 1: playing very well. The injuries happened. They ended up not
- 33:47Speaker 1: doing great at the end of the season. They were
- 33:50Speaker 1: in the middle of the pack in the NFL. Now
- 33:54Speaker 1: they're not starting well, but I don't think it's because
- 33:56Speaker 1: she's on the sideline. Had they started slow last year,
- 33:58Speaker 1: I think I would have leaned towards, like, the owner
- 34:01Speaker 1: needs to get out of the way and let them
- 34:03Speaker 1: do their thing. Right now, because there was no talk
- 34:06Speaker 1: about her interfering with anything last year, I seriously doubt
- 34:10Speaker 1: she's doing much more this year, more than clarifying things.
- 34:14Speaker 2: On a sheet.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Again, I don't know who that guy was, but if
- 34:17Speaker 1: he's a coach, he's not very invested in his players
- 34:21Speaker 1: in the game if he's standing on the sideline next
- 34:24Speaker 1: to some security officer, the owner, without a headset. That's all.
- 34:29Speaker 1: I don't know who he was. I don't know who
- 34:30Speaker 1: that is, Chad.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, he could have been the get-back coach,
- 34:34Speaker 2: for all we know. Or a PR guy. I don't know.
- 34:37Speaker 1: He had great hair.
- 34:38Speaker 2: I know that. Did you see, speaking of the get-back coach,
- 34:42Speaker 2: Luke Fickle's get-back coach when they were coming back to
- 34:44Speaker 2: beat Penn State, and he was, like, tugging his cord
- 34:47Speaker 2: from him on his coach's headset, and Fickle just snapped
- 34:51Speaker 2: at him and said, I know, but he said it
- 34:54Speaker 2: with a lot more cuss words than that when he
- 34:55Speaker 2: kept trying to grab him to pull him back, and
- 34:57Speaker 2: he swatted at him. as this guy was trying to
- 34:59Speaker 2: pull him off the field, terrific.
- 35:01Speaker 1: A bigger win for the coach, you believe it was Fickle,
- 35:06Speaker 1: or do you think Lincoln Riley?
- 35:11Speaker 2: Oh, I think Fickle, the way they've looked so far,
- 35:14Speaker 2: which is competent, which is an improvement from what they've been,
- 35:17Speaker 2: it's probably a bigger win for him. I mean, it
- 35:19Speaker 2: was a good win, and they did it with defense,
- 35:21Speaker 2: and the defense came up with a big play late,
- 35:23Speaker 2: so that was a nice change for Lincoln Riley and USC.
- 35:28Speaker 2: but I just don't, Washington's not been very good. I
- 35:30Speaker 2: don't know how good of a win that Washington win
- 35:33Speaker 2: is right now in the big 10. It's not some
- 35:36Speaker 2: unexpected thing that they beat. It was a must win.
- 35:39Speaker 2: It was, but they got it full, full credit. But
- 35:41Speaker 2: I mean, it's not, it's not some great win for them.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Uh, yeah, I w I was going to leave USC. I,
- 35:49Speaker 1: I do think it's more about fickle now. I, I,
- 35:53Speaker 1: we're talking about Lincoln Riley getting the.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Bio if he wants it.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Uh, I think last year there were so many jobs
- 36:00Speaker 1: open that Fickle got to stay because they didn't want
- 36:03Speaker 1: to jump in and get the 15th.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Best coach to arrive at Wisconsin.
- 36:08Speaker 1: They liked what they had based on who was going
- 36:11Speaker 1: to be remaining after the SEC hired 10 or whatever
- 36:15Speaker 1: it was. Yeah, so this year maybe not so much.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Maybe he's helping himself some.
- 36:21Speaker 2: This week, or sorry, they're off this week, and then
- 36:24Speaker 2: it's a matchup of unbeatens in the Big Ten at UCLA.
- 36:27Speaker 2: UCLA ranked 21st. Nebraska undefeated. UCLA undefeated. Wisconsin unbeaten in
- 36:32Speaker 2: conference at 2-0 right now. So they get a week
- 36:35Speaker 2: off to prepare for their West Coast trip. And it's
- 36:39Speaker 2: not a brutal schedule for Wisconsin. They're at UCLA. They
- 36:43Speaker 2: get USC at home. They're at Iowa, which is probably
- 36:45Speaker 2: the toughest game they have left. Then Hutton, it's Rutgers, Maryland, Purdue,
- 36:49Speaker 2: and Minnesota.
- 36:51Speaker 1: At home at the end of the season. So they
- 36:53Speaker 1: need to win those. But I think the USC game
- 36:56Speaker 1: at Wisconsin, that's the game for him to just automatically
- 37:02Speaker 1: keep the gig. I get the sense that they'd love
- 37:07Speaker 1: to get rid of Lincoln Riley regardless at USC.
- 37:09Speaker 2: This is the 20, you get so many teams in
- 37:13Speaker 2: your conference, the definition of imbalanced scheduling from team to
- 37:17Speaker 2: team in a conference. This is a joke.
- 37:20Speaker 4: I know.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Conference schedule. They won at Penn State to open. They're done.
- 37:26Speaker 2: With that win, they got Michigan State, who's awful, and
- 37:29Speaker 2: they blow them out. They got UCLA. We'll see how
- 37:31Speaker 2: good they are. But, okay. You get USC at home
- 37:35Speaker 2: at Iowa. Not easy, but doable. But you close out
- 37:39Speaker 2: the month of November with... Here's the November. In conference.
- 37:43Speaker 2: Big Ten. League of Champions. Conference of Champions. Whatever they
- 37:47Speaker 2: want to call it. Rutgers... At Maryland, at Purdue, who
- 37:52Speaker 2: just got their first Big Ten win in two and
- 37:54Speaker 2: a half years, and Minnesota at home. Give me that schedule.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Show me an SEC team that has that schedule. At
- 38:02Speaker 2: any point in their conference schedule.
- 38:05Speaker 1: I don't want that schedule because that means I'm not
- 38:07Speaker 1: getting any media rights money. You're getting it, but you're
- 38:10Speaker 1: about to be lapped with what we're seeing with the numbers, Chad.
- 38:14Speaker 2: That's what I mean.
- 38:15Speaker 1: We discussed that on Friday. Meanwhile, like Ohio State. Ohio
- 38:18Speaker 1: State remaining. They've played Texas, but in conference they had Iowa.
- 38:26Speaker 1: They have Maryland coming up this week, but they have Indiana.
- 38:30Speaker 1: They have USC. They have Oregon. They have Northwestern. They
- 38:33Speaker 1: have Nebraska. They have Michigan. There's your imbalance. That's why
- 38:37Speaker 1: Ohio State's on Fox every week. Big new kickoff every week.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Where are you going to go? Those are the big
- 38:43Speaker 1: games of the conference.
- 38:45Speaker 2: It's Ohio State. It's the Buckeyes. It's JT's team. how
- 38:49Speaker 2: about Dave Portnoy no longer allowed on big noon kickoff?
- 38:54Speaker 2: And they completely pulled Barstool Sports off of it. And
- 38:56Speaker 2: he just took to social media and said, yeah, I'm
- 39:00Speaker 2: going to tell you why it happened. It's because Ryan
- 39:03Speaker 2: Day is a P word and said it over and
- 39:05Speaker 2: over again. And he said to all the thousands of
- 39:08Speaker 2: Ohio State fans that aren't that, I apologize to you,
- 39:11Speaker 2: but your coach is a complete wuss. And he has
- 39:14Speaker 2: been complaining to the league office about Portnoy being on
- 39:18Speaker 2: And he said, I don't blame Fox for how much
- 39:21Speaker 2: money is at stake for listening to Ohio State eventually
- 39:24Speaker 2: and pulling us off.
- 39:25Speaker 1: But that's the whole reason. But think about that. Therein
- 39:28Speaker 1: lies the whole thing right there. You know, you, you,
- 39:31Speaker 1: you have a conference where you, you've got a coach
- 39:36Speaker 1: that doesn't want Portnoy on because he's a Michigan guy, right?
- 39:40Speaker 1: And he's talking trash all the time. Meanwhile, you've got
- 39:42Speaker 1: McAfee who knows how to have fun with it. You've
- 39:45Speaker 1: got Saban who can go to all these different places
- 39:47Speaker 1: and knows how to have fun with it. Um, There's
- 39:51Speaker 1: a difference with game day and big noon just based
- 39:53Speaker 1: on that alone. With how all that started and walking
- 39:57Speaker 1: down the streets. Right after the whole Connor Stallions thing.
- 40:05Speaker 2: It's the difference. Your whole business is based on inciting people.
- 40:09Speaker 2: That's Dave Portnoy's whole thing. He's going to yell and
- 40:12Speaker 2: scream and be angry. It's a total like Pat McAfee's
- 40:15Speaker 2: more joy. You know, he does get angry at times,
- 40:17Speaker 2: but it's more about the joy of doing what he
- 40:19Speaker 2: does and the joy of college football and hyping teams up.
- 40:22Speaker 2: He's a WWE heroic hype man. Right. Portnoy's just on.
- 40:27Speaker 2: It just doesn't work on network television. I mean, that's
- 40:30Speaker 2: always been my take with him. It's a misplaced thing.
- 40:33Speaker 2: It works with what he does. With Barstool, absolutely works.
- 40:37Speaker 2: But when you put him on a network show, it
- 40:39Speaker 2: just is never going to work. Well, it works in bits,
- 40:44Speaker 2: in small doses, not every single week. Like when he
- 40:47Speaker 2: first debuted, the numbers were very respectable. We touched on that, right?
- 40:52Speaker 2: But it gets old. Like it's the same thing every week.
- 40:56Speaker 2: So at least with game day, you've got something that
- 41:01Speaker 2: changes up at least every week or so. Uh, Caitlin Clark,
- 41:05Speaker 2: I thought did a pretty good job on air this week. Chad,
- 41:07Speaker 2: you probably missed that. She did. I actually went back
- 41:10Speaker 2: and watched and thought she did a good job. It
- 41:12Speaker 2: was cool. She was up in the children's hospital too.
- 41:14Speaker 2: And they did the wave. Oh, that was cool. The
- 41:15Speaker 2: whole feature on the children's hospital was neat, but she
- 41:18Speaker 2: came ready. She was ready to go back and forth
- 41:20Speaker 2: with McAfee. I think they're buds there in Indianapolis. Uh,
- 41:23Speaker 2: So they had a nice rapport going into it. And, yeah,
- 41:25Speaker 2: I thought you did a good job.
- 41:27Speaker 1: I thought about you whenever they picked the UMass game.
- 41:29Speaker 2: UMass. UMass. UMass got their ass kicked. Did they? I
- 41:34Speaker 2: didn't see the final. Oh, yeah. Eastern Michigan whipped them.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Because I went to watch because everybody picked UMass. Except
- 41:41Speaker 2: for Stanford Steve.
- 41:42Speaker 3: UMass.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Yeah, everybody picked UMass. Eastern Michigan. It was like 38-17
- 41:47Speaker 2: or something like that. The UMass story. Not quite as
- 41:51Speaker 2: good today as it was last week.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Hey, stay tuned. We're coming here. Hutton and Withrow presented
- 41:56Speaker 1: by Hard Rock Bet. Hey, it's Hutton and Withrow for

- 42:09Speaker 1: And so she started XXXY Athletics instead. Their mission, in

- 43:27Speaker 1: and much more. We'll get to that in a moment.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Here's what we want. Let's take a look here with
- 43:32Speaker 1: our locks.
- 43:34Speaker 2: I went with the.
- 43:36Speaker 1: My lock of the week was Tennessee and Auburn under 55.5. Chad,
- 43:41Speaker 1: you hit on the Northwestern money line, called that from
- 43:44Speaker 1: the jump.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Well done.
- 43:47Speaker 1: We did well this past week going out and saying, hey,
- 43:51Speaker 1: this is where we're confident, and we backed it up.
- 43:54Speaker 2: I've got to do a better job of organizing my
- 43:57Speaker 2: level of confidence on each one because I tend to
- 44:00Speaker 2: just go with my first one first. And I need
- 44:03Speaker 2: to go with the Thursday lock. We have the lock
- 44:06Speaker 2: segment on Thursday. I'm not making excuses here. John Sumrall's
- 44:09Speaker 2: not going to be mad at me. I'm going to
- 44:10Speaker 2: be accountable for it. My lock did not hit. I
- 44:13Speaker 2: lost my first lock of the year. The first one
- 44:15Speaker 2: of the year, though. I mean, you're plus money. Yeah,
- 44:19Speaker 2: Louisville was we asked this weekend at NC State. NC
- 44:23Speaker 2: State's not a good football team. And now I'm convinced
- 44:25Speaker 2: that Louisville's also not a good football team. So that
- 44:28Speaker 2: one really crept up and killed me. But I would
- 44:31Speaker 2: have gone– Northwestern was my highest confidence on the money
- 44:34Speaker 2: lot last week. I should have made that my lock,
- 44:37Speaker 2: but instead, because we parlay on Wednesday first, I went
- 44:40Speaker 2: with my first thought, put that on our three-leg parlay,
- 44:44Speaker 2: got that one, and I would have been undefeated still
- 44:47Speaker 2: in my locks had I just gone with my brain
- 44:50Speaker 2: and my gut. Northwestern was not going to lose opening
- 44:53Speaker 2: that new stadium. That new stadium looked fantastic.
- 44:56Speaker 3: No.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Looks futuristic. Looked awesome. They had RG3 there eating hot
- 45:01Speaker 2: dogs and popcorn and showing the new concessions at one point. Also,
- 45:05Speaker 2: it was like half full. There was hardly anybody there.
- 45:08Speaker 2: And I got home after our high school football game.
- 45:11Speaker 2: We went to DCA Friendship and had that call. And
- 45:13Speaker 2: I'm watching the end of that game, Hunt, and it's like,
- 45:15Speaker 2: I mean, it was like 60% full. There were tons
- 45:18Speaker 2: of empty seats in the stadium. Was there terrible weather? Like, what? No,
- 45:23Speaker 2: not to my knowledge. And maybe everyone left. Because it
- 45:26Speaker 2: was a blowout. Because I'm watching in the start of
- 45:29Speaker 2: the fourth quarter, and maybe a lot of people left.
- 45:31Speaker 2: The first game. Northwestern's not the biggest fan base going
- 45:35Speaker 2: to the Big Ten. I understand that. But I figured
- 45:37Speaker 2: for game number one, they would ensure they had a sellout,
- 45:41Speaker 2: even if they had to give tickets away for people
- 45:43Speaker 2: to go to the game.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Not the biggest fan base, but they had the donations
- 45:47Speaker 1: and stuff that made this happen. Man, that's crazy to me.
- 45:51Speaker 2: Well, they have the city of Chicago, too. I mean,
- 45:53Speaker 2: you would think you would get that area of Chicago
- 45:55Speaker 2: that would come out and support. So I was surprised
- 45:59Speaker 2: to see the crowd, but not surprised to see my
- 46:03Speaker 2: Northwestern Wildcats take it to Penn State. Penn State is
- 46:07Speaker 2: very mid to below this year. You know what's not mid?
- 46:10Speaker 2: Chip Kelly's offense. Holy cow. I mean, he is running
- 46:14Speaker 2: like a shotgun version of a Navy or Army offense
- 46:18Speaker 2: mixed with big shots down the field. And I think
- 46:21Speaker 2: in terms of creativity– In the run game, Chip Kelly
- 46:24Speaker 2: and Buster Faulkner at Florida are doing things that not
- 46:28Speaker 2: many other teams are doing with how they get creative
- 46:30Speaker 2: with how they run it. Kudos to Chip Kelly. He's
- 46:33Speaker 2: getting a coach ball now. That's what he's always wanted
- 46:35Speaker 2: to do. And he's just the offensive coordinator at Northwestern.
- 46:38Speaker 2: But that offense looked really good on Friday night.
- 46:41Speaker 1: I will say, though, Chip Kelly, wherever he leaves, the
- 46:47Speaker 1: team ends up being at least a little bit better overall, oftenly.
- 46:53Speaker 1: It looks like it's worked out okay for both. Now,
- 46:55Speaker 1: there is a coach in between that. But, you know,
- 46:59Speaker 1: things are looking up and up at UCLA, okay.
- 47:03Speaker 2: Hutton, we got to go home team tonight, right? Saints, Falcons.
- 47:06Speaker 1: I'll be honest with you. I don't trust the Saints defense.
- 47:11Speaker 1: They've given up their average, I think, 27 points per game.
- 47:15Speaker 1: I'm leading Atlanta. We can split it. You go with
- 47:17Speaker 1: your gut. I'll go with mine. But I'm going to
- 47:20Speaker 1: take Atlanta Moneyline here. They've got the starting quarterback now
- 47:24Speaker 1: in Pennix Jr. They have the talent on offense to score.
- 47:28Speaker 1: They've got a running back who just went off last week.
- 47:31Speaker 1: They're coming off a 10-day rest with the Green Bay
- 47:33Speaker 1: Thursday night football game. They got their first win of
- 47:37Speaker 1: the season. I think they ride that momentum. I think
- 47:38Speaker 1: they're feeling pretty good. I think Atlanta's defense is better
- 47:41Speaker 1: than New Orleans' defense. That's my gut.
- 47:47Speaker 2: How can you convince me? I can be easily influenced,
- 47:49Speaker 2: and that was a great sales pitch. We are going
- 47:51Speaker 2: Atlanta Falcons money line.
- 47:55Speaker 1: Let me also say, this was around three or two
- 47:59Speaker 1: and a half yesterday.
- 48:01Speaker 2: It's one and a half right now.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Yeah, we're seeing it at one and a half now.
- 48:04Speaker 1: Over under 47 and a half. You could also take
- 48:07Speaker 1: the over here, because I think both offenses will put
- 48:10Speaker 1: up some points. The Saints are known for getting down early.
- 48:13Speaker 1: they'll do what Kentucky just did to South Carolina. They
- 48:15Speaker 1: get down early, double digits, they come back and they
- 48:18Speaker 1: make that a game, you know? So, uh, I think
- 48:21Speaker 1: it'll be a very good game. I just, I leaned
- 48:24Speaker 1: Atlanta on the road simply because you've got the dome,
- 48:27Speaker 1: weather's not a factor and better playmakers on Atlanta's offense.
- 48:31Speaker 2: Now I'm going, I'm playing it right now. I'm going
- 48:34Speaker 2: Falcons money line. You've sold me. You convinced me on that.
- 48:37Speaker 1: I'm sure there's going to be a, a bonus bet
- 48:39Speaker 1: or something where, uh, for in-game play only, where maybe
- 48:45Speaker 1: you can hedge this if we get out to a
- 48:47Speaker 1: slow start this evening.
- 48:49Speaker 2: Hey, how about your Bravos?
- 48:51Speaker 1: How should I play this moving forward?
- 48:56Speaker 2: Dodgers? You plan Dodgers to win it? I mean, look,
- 49:00Speaker 2: they still, the Braves are going to have to face
- 49:04Speaker 2: three great starting pitchers. Because of the depth, right? They've
- 49:08Speaker 2: got Yamamoto, Glasnow, and then Scooble will be the Game
- 49:13Speaker 2: 5 starter if it gets to that. The Braves have
- 49:15Speaker 2: Chris Sale left. Now, the Braves, somehow, in a bullpen game...
- 49:20Speaker 2: it looked like they were just saying, all right, we're
- 49:21Speaker 2: going to go down 0-2, and then we're going to
- 49:22Speaker 2: have Chris Sale bail us out in Game 3 and
- 49:25Speaker 2: at least force it to a Game 4. But getting
- 49:28Speaker 2: that win last night with Ray Kerr starting again the
- 49:30Speaker 2: way they did in the decisive game against the Phillies,
- 49:33Speaker 2: and it was the same formula. It went from him
- 49:35Speaker 2: to Grant Holmes with the beautiful curly locks Then it
- 49:39Speaker 2: goes to Didier Fuentes, 20-year-old phenom out of the bullpen.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Braves getting that win was huge because now they get
- 49:46Speaker 2: Chris Sale tomorrow. That's what I'm saying, yeah. Great chance
- 49:49Speaker 2: to push this thing to a five-game series if Chris
- 49:52Speaker 2: Sale can get the win. But, I mean, it comes
- 49:54Speaker 2: at you in waves with not just the Dodgers lineup
- 49:57Speaker 2: but the pitchers they can throw in every single game.
- 50:00Speaker 2: So I would still– that's a big win for the Braves,
- 50:03Speaker 2: and they did turn the series. With that, I would
- 50:05Speaker 2: still probably pick the Dodgers to advance. Yeah.
- 50:08Speaker 1: But great, great win for the Braves. They surprised me
- 50:11Speaker 1: with that one. So, right, it's like it always is.
- 50:14Speaker 1: It's a run and a half on the spread. Over, under,
- 50:17Speaker 1: it's six and a half total runs for game three. And, again,
- 50:22Speaker 1: it's just minus 110.
- 50:23Speaker 2: Straight money line.
- 50:24Speaker 1: I mean, you mentioned the pitching coming up. You've got
- 50:31Speaker 1: sale now. I might roll with Atlanta in game three, Chad.
- 50:37Speaker 2: Yeah, again, I think Chris Sale... I know you're talking
- 50:39Speaker 2: about the gauntlet, but... Yeah, and then they got Chris
- 50:42Speaker 2: Sale versus Yamamoto in this one, which the Braves have
- 50:45Speaker 2: had a hard time with them. And then Tyler Glass now,
- 50:48Speaker 2: and then Scooble again, who just beat the Braves in
- 50:52Speaker 2: Game 1. So I'm not picking the Braves to win
- 50:53Speaker 2: the series. Will they win with Chris Sale? Yeah, I'd
- 50:57Speaker 2: pick that. I think the Braves could go up 2-1
- 50:59Speaker 2: and then lose the next two games to lose the series,
- 51:02Speaker 2: but I do think they got a great shot in
- 51:03Speaker 2: Game 3 back in Atlanta. But kudos to Walt Weiss.
- 51:07Speaker 2: who makes some unorthodox decisions that tends to pay off.
- 51:11Speaker 2: Terrific first year for him as manager of the Braves
- 51:14Speaker 2: and what he's accomplished. And it's clear those guys love
- 51:17Speaker 2: playing for him. I'm all in. Here's my one caveat
- 51:22Speaker 2: to all of this. I didn't watch a second of
- 51:24Speaker 2: the game on Saturday during college football. And I love
- 51:28Speaker 2: the Braves. But if you're going to contend with a
- 51:31Speaker 2: Tennessee football game and all of college football at the
- 51:34Speaker 2: same time, I am watching the score and seeing what's
- 51:37Speaker 2: happening and seeing the score. It is tough, tough, tough
- 51:40Speaker 2: in America. And I know it's America's pastime. But to
- 51:44Speaker 2: get people to turn away from football Saturday or Sunday
- 51:47Speaker 2: to watch Major League Baseball playoff games. I know they
- 51:50Speaker 2: don't want to go into November. I know all these things.
- 51:53Speaker 2: But man, oh man, do I get a lot more
- 51:55Speaker 2: interested in a Yankees game on a Monday night or
- 51:57Speaker 2: a Tuesday or a Wednesday or a Thursday. or even
- 52:00Speaker 2: a Friday, or a Braves game on one of those
- 52:02Speaker 2: nights than I will on Saturday or Sunday. Even last
- 52:05Speaker 2: night with one game as competition, I'm watching Braves-Dodgers versus Panthers-Lions, right?
- 52:10Speaker 2: As a baseball fan, as a Braves fan, it's just
- 52:13Speaker 2: hard to go head-to-head with football in anything.
- 52:17Speaker 1: And I'll say this too, and I agree. Somehow the
- 52:20Speaker 1: NBA and the NHL don't overlap all that much whenever
- 52:24Speaker 1: they're in the same playoff months. You try to avoid
- 52:29Speaker 1: certain things. Now, the NHL is getting– at one point
- 52:33Speaker 1: they were trying to get close to the NBA, the
- 52:36Speaker 1: all-star game and all that stuff. But the Stanley Cup
- 52:38Speaker 1: final isn't anywhere close to what we're talking about this month.
- 52:41Speaker 1: But the NBA will spread things out so far where
- 52:46Speaker 1: you can play a game at home and not play
- 52:48Speaker 1: again at home the very next game of the series
- 52:50Speaker 1: for like two nights just to get the optimal time.
- 52:54Speaker 1: whether that's a Sunday night game or a Saturday night,
- 52:56Speaker 1: they want and they will guarantee they're going to be
- 52:59Speaker 1: in the best spot for them that time of year
- 53:03Speaker 1: on that network. And that's what Major League Baseball should do.
- 53:06Speaker 1: It only helps you grow the game. And so what
- 53:11Speaker 1: if you go into November?
- 53:12Speaker 2: How about this?
- 53:13Speaker 1: Just ease things up a bit in the season. Start
- 53:18Speaker 1: a little bit earlier. You don't have to start earlier.
- 53:20Speaker 1: Just reduce some of the games in these series. You
- 53:24Speaker 1: don't have to have a five game series or a
- 53:25Speaker 1: four game series during the season all the time, reduce
- 53:28Speaker 1: some games and, you know, play a three game series.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Instead of a four. Well, and also, you know, I'm
- 53:33Speaker 2: a huge Braves fan and I follow them all year.
- 53:35Speaker 2: But again, when I wake up on a Saturday morning
- 53:38Speaker 2: in October, I'm thinking about it and there's overcast skies
- 53:42Speaker 2: and it's a perfect day for football. I'm the last
- 53:44Speaker 2: thing I'm thinking about is a 3 p.m. First pitch
- 53:47Speaker 2: between the Braves and the Dodgers to start their series
- 53:49Speaker 2: out on the West coast. I just, And I'm a
- 53:51Speaker 2: huge Braves fan. And I'm saying this. So if it's
- 53:54Speaker 2: hard to pull me in when you have football as competition,
- 53:58Speaker 2: it's hard to pull anyone into those games. And again,
- 54:02Speaker 2: when it's one game, I'm fine with it. It's competition.
- 54:04Speaker 2: I watched last night. But now we're getting into the week.
- 54:07Speaker 2: So we'll watch the Major League Baseball postseason and get
- 54:09Speaker 2: ready for another football weekend.
- 54:11Speaker 1: Chop on. Chop on. Hey, be sure to check out
- 54:13Speaker 1: the next round. Headed your way right here at sportandstate.com
