- 0:57Now, here are the host of The United, We scan podcast.
- 1:04Welcome back, everybody. I am actually here.
- 1:07Today, we are what episode, 24, Mike is on vacation.
- 1:14So, we wish him well and safe travels.
- 1:17When he does come home from Hawaii, and how you doing this
- 1:21week, Josh, I am doing pretty good.
- 1:25Yep, finally got the new car My wife says except like the
- 1:32console and couple years not being in the right spots, quote
- 1:36unquote, she's loving it. So I guess that's making me a
- 1:41happy camper. be a happy camper to, I still have to wait until
- 1:47this next couple days to find out what's going on with my car
- 1:55James house this week treated you Oh, loads of fun.
- 2:00Loads of fun dealing with people upset and trying to figure out
- 2:04this dispute form and all the other things that need to go
- 2:07along with it and it's just been a fun fun week over all other
- 2:12than that, Ralph been pretty easy.
- 2:15Had a couple of very, very short days of mail which is a little
- 2:19unnerving but otherwise, it's been pretty good.
- 2:23I can hear you. It was light all week in my
- 2:26office. I think some of that I heard was
- 2:28Because of that mercury, spill in Lake.
- 2:31I think they ended up having to close down.
- 2:33Part of the plant, is what I heard through the grapevine.
- 2:36Yeah, it was a mercury spill. Yes.
- 2:38Yes. So, and it's actually one of my
- 2:41friend's dad's who ordered a bunch of old blood pressure,
- 2:46cuffs and they broke in transit. That's what it was.
- 2:50All right? Yeah.
- 2:53So they closed that down and it was going to the lake post
- 2:56office and they close that one down because it was in their
- 2:59stuff. Yes.
- 3:01And yeah, it was on the news. So anybody wants to read up on
- 3:06that, I know 9:00 and 10:00 news out of Northern Michigan.
- 3:09Had some of that info on there and Bill.
- 3:12How was your week, dear? Oh, it's lovely.
- 3:16Our supervisor was on vacation. We were short of Clerks.
- 3:20We were short of We were short of alcohol.
- 3:23No, we're never short of back or I'm sorry that's a, that's a
- 3:27falsity short tempers, but, you know, other than that, you know,
- 3:31good weather and moderate male lots of parcels and my Amazon
- 3:36drivers must be on vacation because I have two or three
- 3:39across every day and they were nowhere to be seen.
- 3:43We took the full brunt of it for the whole week.
- 3:46Yeah. Sounds like I know my week
- 3:49Monday was kind of heavy. I was on the 47k, the biggest
- 3:53route in the office Monday through Thursday and Monday.
- 3:57I did it right at evaluation but Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday.
- 4:03I was I did have to run the double on Wednesday Tuesday one
- 4:08of those days. Anyways but I was running it in
- 4:11just under five to five and a half hours.
- 4:14So yeah I get it. It was actually kind of nice.
- 4:19But it's definitely been an interesting week.
- 4:22My postmasters been out. My supervisor was out, we've had
- 4:26our former supervisor, oh, I seeing and our 2004 be at the
- 4:31desk, but that it was a pretty light week for us.
- 4:35Anyways, I think tonight, we were going to touch on this new
- 4:42dispute process that they finally release and it dig into
- 4:48some mapping DPM LTM stuff. And at the end I know we have a
- 4:56few listener, comments and questions, that will be touching
- 4:59on. So do we want to start off with
- 5:02this dispute form process tough guys.
- 5:05We can do that. The reason why we're doing a
- 5:08dispute form instead of Grievances and stuff like that
- 5:12is the first step in any issue with post office that you have
- 5:18is to talk it out with management.
- 5:21And because your manager doesn't have the ability to fix this at
- 5:26the office level, they needed something that they could use.
- 5:30To move it up to where it could be fixed, which is at the
- 5:33national level and the district level.
- 5:36So we have to do a dispute form. It management can either agree
- 5:41or disagree with whatever it goes with that can move up the
- 5:45chain. And this is a standardized form
- 5:48for everybody to use to get it to that point.
- 5:52And remember I'm that form. It is one dispute per sheet, so
- 5:58if you have multiple Puetz from your 4241 A's and Adams.
- 6:05Each dispute is on a separate sheet and it's actually a really
- 6:09simple process. You know, it's only for this
- 6:14dispute forms only for issues with your 4241, a but you also
- 6:19can use your 42 41 m in the process of disputing the
- 6:23problems with your 4241. A and of course, they did put
- 6:27out an mou and if you don't have access to it, talk to your
- 6:32designated local union representative.
- 6:35To get it or one of your colleagues that work is part of
- 6:39the Union, if you're a non dues-paying member so you can
- 6:41get a copy of the mou because it's on the inner LCA website
- 6:46and disputes need to be turned in by the 31st.
- 6:53Yes. The end of this month so you
- 6:56don't have a lot of time but hopefully have enough a week
- 7:02from Wednesday. So Wednesday May 31st.
- 7:05So making sure I was looking at the right month there.
- 7:10And there are some things you can dispute that are aside from
- 7:14your 4241 a other than errors in the fields themselves and that
- 7:20is your office. Walk distance is you're supposed
- 7:24to have measured those with your postmaster or designated
- 7:27supervisor. To be able to measure how far it
- 7:32is to each location. You can dispute the route
- 7:35length, if it's lower than what you're certified, odometer said
- 7:41you can argue that because it still says in our contract that
- 7:44our routes are to be measured with a certified odometer.
- 7:48This LTM mapping is only digital and it may be wrong.
- 7:53So you can always ask for a certified.
- 7:55Odometer to measure your route. you can argue the number of
- 8:00boxes active or total You can argue your daily Dismounts.
- 8:08Dismount distances. If your manager did not go out
- 8:11with you to measure your Dismount, distance is on your
- 8:15route or didn't ask you to measure your distances on your
- 8:17route, your daily activities. Your miscellaneous time.
- 8:24And your option election. If you had 10 years in at the
- 8:28post office, you could choose High option.
- 8:30And if they didn't give you the high option that you asked for,
- 8:32you can dispute that. Now, some of these things they
- 8:37can adjust at the office. That would be like your Dismount
- 8:41distances, your office walk distances that sort of stuff.
- 8:46That's why they want the dispute process to start with talking
- 8:50with your manager when you have these disputes because some of
- 8:53these connection, we be changed within the office but not
- 8:56everything. Bill question for you.
- 9:03How do we get information for our dispute with the 4241 A's?
- 9:09Where do we get that from your supervisor?
- 9:13Yeah, you can ask for your Parcel tracking report the radar
- 9:17reports or your end of run your dealer.
- 9:22Your Rex MDD, scan review. Hmm, your LTM print out.
- 9:28Out and rims. So that's been the hot debate
- 9:31I've seen on the social webs as rims reports because there are
- 9:37numerous rims reports So, yeah, that one's a big one, but we
- 9:44also have a manager. Yes, and if management is
- 9:51failing to print those out for you upon request, there is a
- 9:55forum for that. File.
- 9:59Another reason and supposedly your manager has access to all
- 10:04this information. Supposedly, How do we fill this
- 10:10out, guys? We want to help us fill these
- 10:13out. So what you're going to do is
- 10:18you're going to have a dispute form for each error on your 4241
- 10:23a whether it's your DPS is low your collection boxes collection
- 10:30apartments or missing things like that.
- 10:33Each one needs a separate form for each slot on your 4241.
- 10:37A that you believe is missing. The first thing you're going to
- 10:41do is fill out the date. Your name, your route.
- 10:47Number be if effective evaluation date which is the
- 10:51six. And you zip code.
- 10:57That's right. At the top of the form, your
- 10:59manager, whoever working with you on this is going to fill out
- 11:04their name, their position, the finance number for the office
- 11:09things like that. Then in the first in dispute you
- 11:14would write which box you're disputing.
- 11:18For instance, if your radar report has a lot of zeros in it
- 11:23for DPS, when you should have had a normal amount then you
- 11:27would put in dispute, DPS letters carriers reason for
- 11:34dispute radar report and end of run reports show multiple lines
- 11:40of zero DPS when DPS was received each day.
- 11:45Therefore, the value in this slot is artificially low. oh,
- 11:52another example I would have is if you have a 0 in one of your
- 11:55slides like blue box collections that would be in your in dispute
- 12:02and you would right I'm missing two blue boxes that are on my
- 12:06route that could that could also be included in your daily
- 12:10discounts as well. The biggest one that a lot of
- 12:15people don't see and don't look, for is the withdrawal status in
- 12:20the lower right corner. If you are a withdrawal office,
- 12:25and means you go and get your DPS, you go and get your hot
- 12:28case, you go and get your Flats. Any of those, any one of those,
- 12:33you are a withdrawal office. That should be a why if it's not
- 12:38a why and you're doing withdrawal, you can dispute
- 12:42that. Any other?
- 12:48Yeah, any entry that is a zero or questionable in any data
- 12:52field that would otherwise you would expect to have a credit.
- 12:57You can dispute those. So I don't really that's the
- 13:01thing as is nobody, my office is going to dispute anything.
- 13:05At this point, one of them may dispute the route length.
- 13:09That's really his only biggest one right now because it's well,
- 13:14when I first got on that route was 98 miles.
- 13:17They did a fish. I'm gonna are quote, official
- 13:21remeasure and we lost five miles.
- 13:24It was 93 miles. And then when we, First did the
- 13:27mapping for the route and and everything.
- 13:30It was down to 91 Point 83 miles.
- 13:35The only reason he's hesitating at this point on that, it's
- 13:38because he did add a new box when area that will we haven't
- 13:42traveled down in a long time, but there was already male
- 13:46established in the past so he had them put the new box for
- 13:50that new build up at the end of the road, so that did not give
- 13:53up to ninety. Two point, three eight miles.
- 13:5992.3 5. But yeah.
- 14:05But those of you that had huge huge losses, I would definitely
- 14:11be double checking and going through those just to double
- 14:16verify. I mean a lot of losses that we
- 14:19had like I said automatically was the Box Factor loss and the
- 14:24drive speed Matrix. I know that was the big one on
- 14:26my POV route. Just those two alone is what hit
- 14:30that route hard. Only lost three hours but still
- 14:34it was all do no thumb lost volume over time of 2018 we've
- 14:41explained that in previous episode.
- 14:43So there are some people that even though they lost a big ton
- 14:47of their route may have legitimately lost that amount on
- 14:51their route but check your 4241 A's Check and make sure your
- 14:594241 Elms, have everything that's supposed to be on them
- 15:03because the union, put out, how to decipher your 4241, a, and
- 15:09how it matches with your 4241 M. So, if there's a value that's
- 15:14wrong in your 40 to 41, M, you can dispute that slot or slots
- 15:22on your 4241. A To get that corrected.
- 15:27All right, so we're kind of going to dive into some mapping
- 15:29here guys. I know CB use and mapping.
- 15:33I'm just going to say aye. I worked with my carriers this
- 15:37past week since I had some shorter days due to the heat low
- 15:40mail volume. And so we were able to update
- 15:44get some updates, done a little out of the time frame but needed
- 15:49to be done. So we are able to do it and I
- 15:51will tell you right now, if your manager tells you, You that they
- 15:55did your mapping, it'll hold it. If your District rep ASAP
- 16:00because roic tried to take it upon herself to add some boxes,
- 16:05where she thought they needed to go on the mapping and I had to
- 16:11fix them. When one particular, we have two
- 16:15routes and this one area where you have one row, you have two
- 16:21roads that run perpendicular to each other.
- 16:24And or parallel again, right? I don't know.
- 16:29Anyways, they're the exact same road name.
- 16:32Only one is West. And one is not, and when she
- 16:36went to go add this box to the one route, she actually put it
- 16:41on the other route in the mapping.
- 16:47I was like, where is this? No, no, that's not even the
- 16:49right route. So um know if management has
- 16:55done your mapping and they're not letting you do any updates,
- 16:58you need to contact your Dr, right away.
- 17:03That is incorrect, carrier. Should be sitting down with the
- 17:06facilitator to do the mapping. On that note, we'll start with
- 17:12the D p.m. the delivery point management.
- 17:15When you are mapping your delivery point management?
- 17:18Yes, your breadcrumbs will place a lot of things already on
- 17:21there. However, they're not always in a
- 17:24correct spot. Oh yeah, thanks Josh.
- 17:26Perpendicular crosses. So they run parallel.
- 17:28Okay? Ha ha.
- 17:29Anyways, back up to DPM. Oh, you're going to make sure
- 17:33those mailboxes are in the right spot.
- 17:35You're going to mark your part point, which is the purple.
- 17:39And you're going to Mark the yellow door as to where you
- 17:42deliver that package. So if you're delivering that Age
- 17:45on a daily basis, to the front door where they want it.
- 17:48That's where you go to market, if you drop it off at the garage
- 17:52because that's where they want their stuff dropped off.
- 17:54That's where you're going to point a door, if they have a
- 17:58tote to put out somewhere, and that's where they want packages
- 18:01dropped. That's where you're going to
- 18:03Mark. Is to the door.
- 18:07And you're going to do that in your mail.
- 18:09Stop and mailbox are normally one in the same.
- 18:14Green one is your mailbox. The blue with a little truck is
- 18:17your mail stop. Those are normally one in the
- 18:21same. The difference with those are if
- 18:23you have BB use centralized boxes, hardship boxes, And I
- 18:31think that's the three different ones, correct?
- 18:32James. Where your, where your part,
- 18:35where your mail stop and your mailbox may be in different
- 18:39locations correct? Also you're all wrong.
- 18:44Yes. Yes yeah.
- 18:45Businesses and schools and things like that.
- 18:48Where you have to get out of the truck to deliver the mail and
- 18:51into the building itself, which in the DPM, or at a book would
- 18:56be under other. Oh, yeah.
- 18:58Going by those three things, it would be Central centralized.
- 19:02See. BU and other Yep. and, The big
- 19:09point to all of this is your mail stop where you deliver the
- 19:14mail to the mailbox, then measures to your Park point on
- 19:19the drive speed Matrix. as out of Route miles, And then, your
- 19:26delivery to the door is a straight line from your Park
- 19:29point to the door, and that's your out of Route footage on
- 19:36your map, on your 4241. So, make sure you're as accurate
- 19:43as possible. For instance, they talked about
- 19:47getting out for businesses. I'll have an example.
- 19:51We have a business on a route here that has a mailbox, but
- 19:56their park point is up by the building, so we can go in and
- 20:00deliver Parcels to them. You put the park point, where
- 20:05you park the truck normally and then you put the door delivery
- 20:10where you deliver it in the building.
- 20:12If you can remember it from Sky View approximately.
- 20:17So if you go into the building and drop it off at the, for
- 20:22instance, of a car dealership, you drop it off as the cashier
- 20:26desk in the back by the service department, which is where they
- 20:28want you to drop it off, you would mark it at the back
- 20:31cashier desk. So, you get that footage.
- 20:35You don't want to just at the door and then put the front door
- 20:41right? At that door where you park
- 20:43because you're going to be walking further than you're
- 20:45actually getting paid for and that would go the same for
- 20:48apartment complexes condos. Any multi-unit building.
- 20:54If you are going in that building to deliver a package,
- 20:58you kind of want to place those doors and a relative area that
- 21:03it's going to be. Unfortunately they don't Don't
- 21:06do vertical measurements. For those of us that may have to
- 21:08climb some stairs here and there, but you kind of want to
- 21:11get it at least in that right area on top of the building.
- 21:17Thanks for pointing that out because a lot of people don't
- 21:19realize that, you know, they don't recognize stairs.
- 21:24Yeah, they don't. Unfortunately, my wife, my walk
- 21:29does. But the post office doesn't
- 21:31exactly my knees recognize it. But yeah, I'm trying to think.
- 21:43Also, when you are doing such relies Dorsey, Use.
- 21:49You are going to each key turn is going to be a mailbox,
- 21:53grouping all of your boxes that are in within that unit.
- 21:59Whether it's a CPU or centralized perky turn.
- 22:02So when you have put that key in that one box.
- 22:05So if you're in a like apartment complex and you've got apartment
- 22:081 through 16 in one box and you're going to do your mailbox
- 22:14grouping as 1 through 16. And then if you've got more than
- 22:19one unit then, you know, Seventeen through, twenty nine
- 22:23or whatever. The next one is, you know,
- 22:26that's what you're going to do there.
- 22:28But and then when you're done with that, you're going to do
- 22:31all in. If that's one stop one Dismount,
- 22:34then you're going to take from that first one to that.
- 22:36Last one, and that's all going to be under your mail, stop
- 22:39grouping. And again, make sure you're
- 22:44marking your Park point, where you park your truck every day to
- 22:48deliver that mail or approximation.
- 22:49If you if unfortunately that parking spot taken by somebody
- 22:52who doesn't see the sign thing US?
- 22:55Postal Service. Only then also marks where that
- 23:01Mark, where's that CB you is in that building?
- 23:08Even though, you're even though you're going to actually measure
- 23:11that distance, make sure you mark where that CD you is in
- 23:15that building. So that way they could say, well
- 23:18you wrote down 150 feet but our mapping only shows 30 feet from
- 23:24where you park the truck to where the mailboxes supposedly
- 23:26located. Don't don't put yourself into a
- 23:30headache, like that, and do, remember that CB use are
- 23:35Standalone units in centralized would be built into like a wall
- 23:39or a building. I have one route that has the
- 23:42old apartment centralized boxes, where you put the key in and you
- 23:46kind of pull the thing down and it's got the long little slots
- 23:49up on top. Um, that would be centralized
- 23:54and then the Standalone units, they usually have their own
- 23:56little pedestals. Those would be your CB, you
- 23:58shoes. And I see. when you go in, after
- 24:05you've done all the mapping and you have to go in and do your
- 24:07Dismounts, if there is not footage.
- 24:11So on one route, we have Quite a few CB use that we can actually
- 24:17pull up to in service, right from the truck, there has to be
- 24:21a value in every box. So if you don't actually have a
- 24:25Dismount you and you can pull right up to the box and you're
- 24:30going to put zeros now, there's also a spot for collection and
- 24:35parcel lockers So if you have a collection slot in each
- 24:41individual, CB you or your centralized boxes in for that
- 24:48Dismount, you're going to put the total number of collections
- 24:51slots that you have. And then if you have to parcel
- 24:56Lockers in each unit or 1 or 3, if you have for CBU units, and
- 25:01they each have two, parcel Lockers in each of the key turn
- 25:04units, then you're going to put 8 parcel lockers Do you want
- 25:08your total parcel lockers as well as your total collection
- 25:11slots and then your Dismount distance if there is no
- 25:16collection slots or there is no parcel lockers, you're going to
- 25:20put zeros in there because you have to have a value, it will
- 25:24not let you finish it out. If it's just blank.
- 25:28And then also your Dismount distance.
- 25:31There's also a thing for your Dismount distance in there, too.
- 25:34So that's where you would put your Dismount distance.
- 25:39Kristen, I just wanted to put the caveat to what you're saying
- 25:44or about with the for example, the you put the number of slots
- 25:50to like you said if it's extinct 1216, you put those as your
- 25:56first one, then the second one is like 17 to 30, so on and so
- 26:02forth. I believe there is a cap of 24.
- 26:10Thermal X grouping. Right.
- 26:14So in my case at my condos they are the old NBC be use and they
- 26:22are either 27 or 30 for mail slots. so, I had to wear, I have
- 26:30eight actual key turns You know, for the doors, I had to actually
- 26:37break it down to 10. To accommodate that cap.
- 26:46And I have heard though, I don't have experience with it because
- 26:49I don't have any areas in my office that have more than 9.
- 26:55CB, you units? I heard it.
- 26:56There was a cap when you're doing the mail stop as nine
- 26:59units but I don't know. Because I personally don't have
- 27:04experience with that one. Well, because I reached out to
- 27:12because I'm friends with our the world Ops person or whatever the
- 27:16actual title is now, who is the guru in my area, for all things
- 27:23Rex and he said, you can You could potentially anchor.
- 27:35If you have 1,000 addresses in your edit book, you could
- 27:40anchor, the stop point for all thousand.
- 27:43Okay. Yo I'm saying, yeah, no, I know
- 27:47exactly what you're saying. All the actual delivery point is
- 27:51capped at 25. Was it the 24, the mailbox
- 27:56grouping, right? So I'm able to Anchor my stop
- 28:02point. For all hundred and ninety
- 28:06something addresses of the condos.
- 28:10Because if you try and have your stop Point match, the each door,
- 28:18it requires a minimum of five feet apart.
- 28:22Yep, from the park for the stuff point.
- 28:27So yeah, so we were 8 you know so the stop you know, my stop
- 28:32point where I park and Dismount the vehicle is all 190 but
- 28:38because their units of 20:27 mail slots were 34 because it's
- 28:47seven down by either four or five across and then you have to
- 28:51subtract the one out for where the arrow key OS to actually
- 28:55open it up. So I had to reduce them instead
- 28:59of 27 or 30 for. I had to I just did 20, 20 20,
- 29:0320 20, until whatever the last one, what, you know, 18 or
- 29:09whatever, the last one was gotcha.
- 29:13All right. So the mailbox groupings on
- 29:14Central and CB use is 24 Max. So if you have one of those
- 29:20older Units that holds more than 24.
- 29:23You will have to split those up a little bit more.
- 29:27There's one one more piece to. There are some that have
- 29:32Standalone parcel lockers next to their CB use.
- 29:37Hmm. Those ones you tie to you can
- 29:42either tie them to one ear CPUs or you can break them up between
- 29:47the CB use as long as they're attached to that set of see be
- 29:51used as part of those distances are usually attached, are
- 29:56usually attached it to the one. It's next to so that way you get
- 30:01the same Dismount distance with it.
- 30:04If you do that. That's that's the one caveat.
- 30:12There's another, that's another one that they have there.
- 30:15The other one of stand-alone parcel lockers is your Amazon
- 30:21parcel lockers, hmm. I we, I've never dealt with
- 30:27that. We don't have those so I
- 30:31consider those. To be the mail room at the
- 30:38place, you go to, okay? And I would put a door marker
- 30:41there so when you deliver you technically get credit to the
- 30:45door but you're delivering it to that parcel locker and I do
- 30:49believe because it's it was a muscular lanius timed event
- 30:53because you got codes or something you got to put in,
- 30:57okay? Yeah.
- 30:58I'm now those are completely out of my knowledge base at all.
- 31:02No. No experience.
- 31:04I am in a very rural area. Yeah, you should measure measure
- 31:08the time, it takes you four, good men, email survey time the
- 31:12two weeks that you do it. Everyone that you get to deliver
- 31:15to that. Start a stopwatch and then take
- 31:18each parcel that you have to deliver to that.
- 31:22Parcel of the Amazon. Parcel Locker.
- 31:25Then go back to your truck and in the stopwatch.
- 31:28So you get the timed event for that under miscellaneous time,
- 31:31that should be something that's approved by your Local
- 31:34management as a part of your miscellaneous time and it should
- 31:38be automatically approved by District because that's what
- 31:41they've said on all the paperwork for it. all right, and
- 31:44your curbside boxes if they are 5 feet or less a part on
- 31:51individual posts, So each there, each mailbox is on its own post
- 31:58and it's, they are within five feet of each other.
- 32:01That would be a mailbox grouping.
- 32:04Now, to mail, stop a mailbox grouping.
- 32:08Now, if you have a big long Shelf type thing, post signage
- 32:16and you've got several mailboxes that are on this big long line
- 32:20and they're all linked together now an individual posts.
- 32:25Then that would be a mailbox grouping in mail stop grouping.
- 32:33It's include your two boxes on a to post one box on each side of
- 32:37the post. This could be a long two by six
- 32:40with 20 boxes on it. Yep.
- 32:43It would be grouping, both the mail stop and the mailboxes
- 32:48whereas if they're individual post it would be male.
- 32:52Stop grouping only. Now if you have it where they're
- 32:56intermixed, you have several that are on a one post and then
- 33:00you have several that are And alone.
- 33:02And then another set of post you'd have to group the
- 33:07mailboxes that are on each post. But you could group the mail
- 33:13stop all together. As one know, you would do the
- 33:16mailbox groupings, it would be a mailbox grouping.
- 33:20All is 1 and then, the mail stops would be the one grouped
- 33:23feelings their shell. It's the mail stops that get
- 33:27grouped the mailboxes on the post, get grouped as mailbox.
- 33:32Has grouped the mail, stop itself.
- 33:35Is that. But once you get outside of the
- 33:39five feet, then you can get the creep distance on that.
- 33:43Because it's you get creeped distance for every box.
- 33:46That's in the mailbox group. Hmm.
- 33:49Then you get if you have them in the mailbox set, technically,
- 33:54you stop at that but I believe it's still the three boxes to
- 33:58creep on that one if I'm not mistaken.
- 34:03Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong on that, though.
- 34:08Individual post is mailbox grouping.
- 34:13All on the same post is the mail stop grouping.
- 34:20Well, they're both. It would be under both.
- 34:22Excuse me, mailbox and mail stop.
- 34:25If they're on the same post whether it's again like that.
- 34:29T post or a big long 2x4, I'm just throwing some out there.
- 34:35Yeah. If they're on individual posts,
- 34:38then they're going to be mailbox group with or within 5 feet and
- 34:40it'll flag you within five feet across me in the mail stop being
- 34:44together. Yeah, yeah and if you know those
- 34:46boxes are not five are further than five feet apart.
- 34:50Art. Then you need to go in and move
- 34:52those little pins. Just enough the little bit.
- 34:55Yeah. To where it will stop doing
- 34:56that. You gotta wiggle it.
- 34:59Just a little bit supposedly. And I'm trying to think of the
- 35:09next one under DPM. If you are a government vehicle,
- 35:15you will then be putting your preferred gasps stop in whatever
- 35:21gas station that you prefer to go.
- 35:25It doesn't necessarily mean you have to go to that one all the
- 35:28time, but that is your preferred one.
- 35:31When you're going to get measured to for your hundred
- 35:34miles or fuel, stop him. So if it's about ninety eight
- 35:39point, six miles is what it is. But yeah, who's counting, they
- 35:44say honored. So yeah.
- 35:48And then If you have an interoffice stop lat lock pouch.
- 35:57Oh yeah, you have a lock pouch or interoffice stop.
- 36:02You'll put that in there. You'll designate whether it's
- 36:04high or low. And then, yes, if you have any
- 36:10Blue collection boxes, you will be putting those in as well.
- 36:13I don't have any of those on my rule side, so I haven't had to
- 36:16worry about that. I'm just going on here.
- 36:21This Mount distance on those to measure the Dismount distance,
- 36:25almost 2 and yep. And then went under your your
- 36:29Dismount tab that's or where you would put your just smoke
- 36:32footage, any collection boxes, any parcel lockers, any of that
- 36:37type of stuff would all go under your Dismount so information and
- 36:44don't forget that you can't have anything blank if there is no
- 36:47distance or no parcel, Crews are collection boxes.
- 36:50You would put a zero and is there anything else that I am
- 36:56forgetting on the DPM portion? And then make sure you check
- 37:02your threshold warning. Yes, an alert because sometimes
- 37:08you have a have a minor alert. I could tell you, hey, you
- 37:12didn't actually put this in the right place.
- 37:15So make sure you check them a time, especially a trailer park,
- 37:20where your mail stop and your Park Point are going to be more
- 37:24than 500 feet apart. That's going to happen.
- 37:28We get a half a mile technically but in a trailer park you know
- 37:32it's going to be within a half a mile say what's your distance?
- 37:36Just a little the door. Yeah it'll flag is anything over
- 37:40500 feet for the park point and 150 feet for the walking part.
- 37:45The door distance. Yep.
- 37:47Yeah. So that may be something to
- 37:50check but if you know it's correct, you could skip over it.
- 37:53That one's not a big issue, the ones that that Better are
- 37:57missing points are hard warnings.
- 38:03Things like that and errors in your mapping also for you.
- 38:09Yes, it will also when you are mapping if you're going to go
- 38:14and do a point for the next thing and it is not letting you
- 38:18give especially with updating your going to try, you see you
- 38:22got some updates and you're going in there and it's not let
- 38:24you move any points. You need to scroll up through
- 38:27that, electronic edit book. And make sure there isn't any
- 38:30boxes that have a red X. Everyone has to be completed
- 38:35with the blue, the green, the yellow, and the purple.
- 38:40Before you can continue to the next one.
- 38:42If you have one with a red X, then you need to go up in
- 38:45either, put that pin point in or if that box is saying it's
- 38:49active and it's inactive, you need to change that.
- 38:52Make sure it is correct in your edit book because AMS talks to
- 38:57mapping, but mapping, as of right now does not talk to AMS.
- 39:02So that's where it's important to make.
- 39:04Sure your edit books are updated prior to doing any mapping
- 39:08updating. When you do go in and update
- 39:11after your edit book has been returned back to you, from doing
- 39:14updates, you want to redownload. Now, if you start updating and
- 39:19you don't finish, you do not want to read, download the next
- 39:24time. You want to resume is then.
- 39:26If you re download, then you're re-downloading the last one and
- 39:30you're having to do anything that you had started all over
- 39:32again. But you can resume it up until
- 39:36you submit it and all your errors and warnings need to be
- 39:40Cleared out and definitely go will double-check those
- 39:43threshold warnings and you can submit it with the threshold
- 39:48warnings. Just I would like James said,
- 39:52just go ahead and double check them and make sure they're
- 39:54correct. And then once it's submitted,
- 39:56then it takes a few minutes for it to transfer to the line of
- 40:00travel management system. The LT m We also, one thing I
- 40:06tell everybody when you're mapping, even if it's vacant
- 40:10right now map, it map, everything for that vacant
- 40:15address, because later on when you go to activate that address,
- 40:19you won't have to put it in on the mapping later.
- 40:22Unless you just have to up, do update a parking or delivery
- 40:26point, because the new people want something different than
- 40:29what was done in the past. You can update that.
- 40:33So if you have people that moved out, you did your original
- 40:36mapping. You got everything set and then
- 40:38they move out new people move in and they don't want their
- 40:42packages at the door. They want them at the garage or
- 40:44they have a tub or something, or a receptacle of some sort.
- 40:48Then. Yes, you can go in and update
- 40:50where they want that to be done. All right.
- 40:53Line of travel. In your line of travels where
- 40:57you're going to put your traffic control points.
- 41:00This would be your stop lights or stop signs, go or yield signs
- 41:06are row tracks. If you have a gated area that
- 41:10you need to pass through a gate to get to the mailboxes school
- 41:16crosswalks, if you have a school on your route, where you have
- 41:20to, you're driving through the school crossing.
- 41:24Yep, there it is. I do p.m. data the school
- 41:27crossing then, that's where you would Mark that railroad.
- 41:30Crossings you had Mark, those yield signs traffic signals,
- 41:35stop signs. And normally those will kind of
- 41:40flag it. If it's a routine area where you
- 41:42normally stop while you're doing it, if it doesn't flag it, then
- 41:48you're just going to hit pause real quick and go to that spot.
- 41:50And enter in that icon you're just going to drag it down from
- 41:53the little box that will be up in the left hand corner.
- 41:56This will also for some reason if you'll see would breadcrumbs
- 41:59when you're doing your LTM, that maybe you have somebody that you
- 42:04deliver a lot of packages to. So it automatically Kind of has
- 42:07you going in their driveway? You can actually pause it,
- 42:11right? Click on that.
- 42:12And a lot of times, it'll give you the option, an optional
- 42:16path, but you can choose the next option and some it'll be
- 42:19just straight through. And you can click on that,
- 42:22doesn't always do that. But more times than not, it
- 42:24will. Now I have a question for
- 42:28Carrier. Discretion, I have a townhome
- 42:32development which doesn't have stop signs or you.
- 42:36Yields at certain intersecting points of the road where I have
- 42:41to make a left or a right hand turn, but I do stop there.
- 42:46Under carrier discretion. Should I put that as a traffic
- 42:49control point for safety issues? Unfortunately, according to the
- 42:54paperwork, if there's not a sign, you don't put one there.
- 42:58So my recommendation to any carrier that goes into these
- 43:01subdivisions speak with the HOA because, you know, these new
- 43:06bills, all have HOAs and speak with them to get stop signs put
- 43:10up. Are the road commission or the
- 43:13road commission or whatever. Governing body covers that area
- 43:17to get stop signs there for safety.
- 43:21And once those stop signs are there, you can put them in your
- 43:23mapping. So but carrier discretion to do
- 43:28that I guess I won't get that completed because me and the HOA
- 43:33president of already crossed paths and yeah.
- 43:37Yes, yes you know how that works out.
- 43:40Talk with your talk, with your sub to do it.
- 43:45See if your sub would be willing to do that if you'd be willing
- 43:48to step up to help raise your evaluation so he makes more
- 43:50money or she she he or she makes more money.
- 43:55See if they're willing to do that.
- 43:59Or whatever they identify as oh. Oh my God.
- 44:05Political correctness to the hilt.
- 44:09Oh, you know, we have to after our fan mail.
- 44:13No, I don't. It's very urgent.
- 44:18Supposedly. This is Bill May and I'm proud
- 44:21to say it loud and clear. All right, take care of your
- 44:28depression. So you know, when you're doing
- 44:31your LTM, you'll watch the little car or the truck,
- 44:35whatever icon comes up, and I'll be driving your route.
- 44:38You can make it faster. So if you have like in my one
- 44:42office has my one route, has all two of my routes have ten and
- 44:46thirteen, mild deadheads. Going out to the route.
- 44:49You can skip to that first box to.
- 44:52If you don't have any traffic control points, this is all
- 44:55under the initial mapping when you're going into do updates.
- 44:59After you've updated Did a few of reactivated boxes that were
- 45:03inactive prior or seasonals come back and you've reacted boxes,
- 45:08you will have to go in under the LTM and it will update each
- 45:14stop. So even if you don't do the
- 45:16whole entire route and you just do it under the changes, I'm
- 45:21trying to remember the word that it has up there, but it's the
- 45:23right one. Not the left one, partial route.
- 45:26That's what it is. You want to At least do those
- 45:31and it basically will take you from point A to point from that
- 45:34and inactive to the next one. And then you click and do the
- 45:37next one. You just want to make sure
- 45:38verify that that line of travel is correct between those points.
- 45:43You can't always tell when the breadcrumbs are catching and
- 45:46carriers have had to turn around for Miss packages because she
- 45:49allow you turns in there. I've had that a few times.
- 45:53Oh look, they missed something that day.
- 45:55They were caught these breadcrumbs and they're turning
- 45:57around. To happen but it does it does.
- 46:02I will raise my hand on that one the other day, as a matter of
- 46:06fact, few times and then I had three carriers that four
- 46:12carriers, that add a whole neighborhood to their route.
- 46:16It may take up to two months for it to show up on your LTM,
- 46:23especially if the, it came in in the middle of edit book season
- 46:29when you're doing When you've already turned in the edit books
- 46:31and then you get these new addresses put on your route.
- 46:34The first time they put it in the computer is going to say,
- 46:37okay, now I'm going to look for these breadcrumbs.
- 46:40And then the next update has to wait until it gets those
- 46:43breadcrumbs to be able to map the next part.
- 46:46I would I would start driving it as soon as you would be driving
- 46:50you. Yeah.
- 46:52You would be driving it. But it may take up to two, to
- 46:55three mapping updates to be able to actually map the route and
- 47:00Fully if it's not a new build in, you're getting something off
- 47:04of somebody else's route because your route that cut or you are
- 47:08somebody's route cut and it got put on yours because you were
- 47:12dropped hard with this. Latest Rex evaluation.
- 47:16Hopefully, they've already mapped all the points correctly
- 47:18and it will it'll be an easy easy peasy little transition
- 47:22over, but we're still waiting for them to announce when they
- 47:25have that system in place to be able to touch and Rebuild routes
- 47:31so that portion of it is still on Holt.
- 47:36The only reason I have experience with that is because
- 47:38of them getting my, my one route and putting it on the other
- 47:41route that didn't come back as a full route even though it should
- 47:44be gotcha. I say I know with my one new
- 47:50neighborhood. When I first mapped 90% of it
- 47:55was inactive. And then after it was complete
- 48:00and everything got activate, you know, was activated.
- 48:05I had to sit down with someone from District because it was
- 48:10flagging those 60 summer dresses.
- 48:14Because they were inactive prior now they and I had activated
- 48:17them in the edit book and had to redo the pin points.
- 48:25For the package delivery. Yeah, the initial mapping when
- 48:31they transitioned over to the latest version of it, it caused
- 48:35a lot of issues in the transition between the two
- 48:40versions of the program. And a lot of things got messed
- 48:44up people's blue boxes. Got moved from one ZIP code, to
- 48:48the primary zip code of the office.
- 48:51Addresses, got marked vacant that we're actually active so on
- 48:55and so forth. When they transitioned over, it
- 48:57was it was a big bun. Ogle.
- 49:03I can tell you, in regards to the methodology of doing route
- 49:10adjustments, As of this past week, there is no official way
- 49:15yet. No, there is not People, people
- 49:21are going to be what some people are really overburdened and want
- 49:24the cuts now, but we'll talk about that a little bit later.
- 49:29On in this episode, it'll be on the lookout for that keep
- 49:33listening, but right now, there is no way to remove that.
- 49:38Overburden from you, the rural route optimization system has
- 49:44not been set up. It should have been set up a
- 49:46long time ago but it hasn't We're still waiting on it, we
- 49:50don't know when they'll ever get it done.
- 49:52If ever, you know, how, here's our I've heard rumors of
- 49:56possibly mid-june because they want it done before the next
- 49:59mini Mill survey. But again, that's just a rumor.
- 50:03So don't hold any credit to that whatsoever.
- 50:08You scarier past week? I was told to finish if we,
- 50:21there is not Anything official yet.
- 50:25There is that they have not and rumor rumor, right?
- 50:30Yes, supposedly Allegedly only if it you didn't see it on The
- 50:38View, it's not real. Again, our LCA hasn't posted it.
- 50:45It hasn't happened yet. So if they have letters in
- 50:52August, but don't discuss it at the convention in September.
- 50:58Oh nevermind, that's an oversight anyway.
- 51:05So just me. So as you finish your, your,
- 51:09your line of travel, when you get back to the office and it
- 51:12ends, it will then have you review it?
- 51:15And then you can go over, it'll give you the little screen will
- 51:20pop up and it'll have all your DPM data your regular boxes.
- 51:25You're just smoke distance or TCP count and then that'll have
- 51:29it broke down between stop signs.
- 51:31Traffic signals yield signs School.
- 51:34Sings railroad crossings gated access, and then it'll have your
- 51:39original LT of mileage, and then your LTM mileage after your
- 51:44route confirmation, and then, as long as that all, looks good
- 51:49supervisor intrusion. Or whoever enters that in puts
- 51:54their little piece ID in there and then they can print it out
- 52:00once that's submitted and then supposedly that is supposed to
- 52:03replace. your 4003 or your line of travel, so That is my
- 52:11understanding 4003 still matters for carriers on EMA.
- 52:20Yes, supposedly supposedly. Yeah, they've locked out.
- 52:24They've locked out the 4000. Threes management can no longer
- 52:27update. On blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 52:31But still in the contract, it still states that EMA is paid
- 52:35based off certified. Odometer mileage of your four
- 52:39thousand three and then and that LTM mileage on the very end.
- 52:46That is, if you know, that is not correct.
- 52:49It doesn't match the mileage on your last four thousand.
- 52:52Three. Then when you want to fill out a
- 52:57dispute sheet on your route mileage.
- 53:01And you want to have a copy of that LTM.
- 53:04And if you have a former copy of your 4003 still, which everybody
- 53:08should have one possibly still at the case, then definitely
- 53:12include that to, to show the discrepancy, unless your manager
- 53:17already took it and shredded it with some managers probably have
- 53:20which they were told to do. They were told also to destroy
- 53:24the previous 4240 ones that were printed out for you guys and so
- 53:29on. So if you kept copies of those,
- 53:31Those you're golden you didn't I hope you have some sort of
- 53:36backup. All right.
- 53:40So that basically is the cliff notes version of mapping.
- 53:47It's really not that difficult, the most confusing part really
- 53:51is the mailbox groupings and mailbox stops knowing the
- 53:56difference with those. And then making sure the yeah, I
- 54:02think that was probably the biggest thing was the mailbox.
- 54:05Groupings will make one note here.
- 54:09And this is for especially those on postal internet.
- 54:14Wait, there's a little bar that runs across the top of the
- 54:17screen, every time you move a point, wait for that bar to go
- 54:22all the way across and disappear.
- 54:24If you move a point and that bar is moving and you move another
- 54:27point, it can lock up the system.
- 54:30Yes so be patient and times this is still more bogged down and
- 54:37get really super slow in general.
- 54:39And at that point that's when you just close it out.
- 54:42Reopen it Up or refresh it. And this is where you will not
- 54:47redownload, but hit resume. Yes, and that's where you want
- 54:51to go. Yeah, I've had to do that a few
- 54:55times. But I think that is it for now
- 55:02under the mapping and we went over the dispute forms so I
- 55:07think we're kind of what go ahead.
- 55:09If you have any questions about this any questions about mapping
- 55:15any questions about the dispute form, get with your mapping
- 55:19facilitator it was your local designated union representative
- 55:23and ask them questions about it. We're not always the answer
- 55:27here. We may give incorrect advice to
- 55:31what your designated local union representative would give you.
- 55:35They are your resource for this information.
- 55:38Make sure you use them. So like I said, if management
- 55:43said I mapped it for you or I did your updates please please
- 55:47please get a hold of your District.
- 55:49Representative ASAP management is not supposed to do that on
- 55:55their own and like I say case in point they don't know where
- 56:00stuff is. I had to go move a box that was
- 56:05on a completely different Road on a completely different route.
- 56:08Just because the road names Were the exact same with the
- 56:13exception of one was West. And one was not.
- 56:17Oh yeah. It all this attention to your
- 56:22dates for your rural route, AMS at a book updates and
- 56:26maintenance on there because that, you know, that's on our
- 56:29web. But National web page for the
- 56:32natural world that retirees Association.
- 56:34It gives you all the dates where you're supposed to do your
- 56:36Corrections additions. Dates that are supposed to be
- 56:40setting up to AMS the dates that you're supposed to sit down with
- 56:43your supervisor designee and do your delivery point manager.
- 56:48Download, do your changes go into your LTM if they're
- 56:52changes. All of that is supposed to be
- 56:54done according to a formula that is set forth for management to
- 57:01follow. And if you don't have that
- 57:04opportunity, especially, you know, days 2:37 30th of the
- 57:08month, except for February, then, you know, you need to get
- 57:12ahold of your local union representative to get this
- 57:15situation, address does long yet longer you wait to do it the
- 57:21longer. It takes to get paid.
- 57:23Yes. And mapping is your paycheck.
- 57:26Also, it's an end of shift duty. If you can help a week, said
- 57:31this in a previous episode, Mapping is an end of shift duty,
- 57:35if you can help it, yes, there are exceptions to the rule where
- 57:39you get 8127 time as the other option, but try to put it at the
- 57:44end of shift, because then, that becomes part of your overall
- 57:48evaluation your mind. And if you are taking newly
- 57:53taking over a route, you know, routes when up for bed and you
- 57:59switched routes You have every right to go in there and look at
- 58:05the mapping and make sure that is correct for you if that's
- 58:08going to take an all-day thing, then they need to find a sub and
- 58:12they need to put you under a pea coat it for you to be able to do
- 58:16that. But yes, they cannot deny you
- 58:18doing that again. If they deny you going in and
- 58:21double checking, the mapping from taking over the route, it a
- 58:25hold of your designated union rep ASAP.
- 58:30All right, so we're going to start doing, you know, our
- 58:34topics. Like we normally do, we've done
- 58:36a few episodes that have all been rumors stuff.
- 58:39We write in groups and questions, so I think we're
- 58:42going to start doing questions and statements and stuff towards
- 58:46the end after we cover the meat and potatoes of the episode.
- 58:51We've had a couple good ones here.
- 58:54I am going to, let's do the audio.
- 58:56We had an audio message, come in on Spotify if you want to go
- 59:00ahead and play that and it has been edited or an animator.
- 59:08So the name and location has been removed.
- 59:12But if you want to go ahead and play that for everybody, Deliver
- 59:18in a 12-round office in since their new evaluations.
- 59:23From Rex all 12 of our routes are overburdened, which we knew
- 59:29because of the Amazon that we've gotten since before the pandemic
- 59:36Now, we have proof at least. question, I'm getting From my
- 59:43fellow, carriers is how they're supposed to be get compensated
- 59:48because the table, the 48k tops out at 57, 36.
- 59:55Every one of our routes are in the 16th for weekly hours.
- 1:00:01We're at the other end of the spectrum, we're way over burden.
- 1:00:05We are making our evaluations that we've gotten really good at
- 1:00:10doing the packages but they can't leave us like this.
- 1:00:17We would, if they caught us we're gonna go from 12 routes of
- 1:00:22probably 16. So basically 12 carriers are
- 1:00:26doing the work of 16 people for free every day.
- 1:00:31In my mind, we're doing part of another route. 48k, as well.
- 1:00:37We already addressed the getting routes cut a few minutes ago, as
- 1:00:42of right now, there is no procedure in place for them to
- 1:00:46do that. Unfortunately, if they want to,
- 1:00:50as soon as that procedure is laid out because the mou says,
- 1:00:54they will not make any Cuts before October of this year.
- 1:00:58which was agreed upon between the post office and the NRL CA
- 1:01:04with the exception of if a carrier requested, Or in operate
- 1:01:14on the accessibility, which is in the case of overburden
- 1:01:17routes. But if everyone wants to get
- 1:01:19cut, I would recommend everyone writing a statement to that
- 1:01:23effect and say that, you understand that it would that
- 1:01:27you understand that all Rex could negatively affect your
- 1:01:31route. Unfortunately, yet, as you
- 1:01:34mentioned 57, 36 is the highest standard hours that you get paid
- 1:01:40at a point 8 K, which is the top of a scale, anything above that
- 1:01:45is negligible. If you are actually going over
- 1:01:5148 hours in the five days of your evaluation, You can get
- 1:01:57either. Auxiliary assistance.
- 1:02:01Or overtime or the amount of time that you are going over.
- 1:02:07If you because I'm a 48k myself but I average about 45 hours a
- 1:02:13week right now. So I'm I'm actually staying
- 1:02:17under the evaluation. So unfortunately there's nothing
- 1:02:22like you get because I'm doing it within the towers.
- 1:02:26Not going over for you. Well, I'm in the same
- 1:02:30predicament, you know, my route comes in at 64 point zero, nine
- 1:02:35hours, which It is kind of funny because it demonstrates the
- 1:02:40burden put on us by the package industry, the business that
- 1:02:45we're approved since the 2018 count.
- 1:02:48So, you know, I haven't been paid for all the parcels from
- 1:02:522018 and now I'm not getting paid for anything over 57 hours
- 1:02:57and I'm basically seven hours over that, unfortunately,
- 1:03:01because I'm a rural carrier, I'm more efficient, and I can
- 1:03:04complete my route underneath. Raishin, the only problem that I
- 1:03:10have and you know, it's probably a good thing that we're not
- 1:03:15being adjusted until October is because some of the numbers are
- 1:03:20just a little out of kilter for me.
- 1:03:23And one of those few side that I have is I have a money order
- 1:03:27application, allowance time allowance.
- 1:03:31I haven't had a money order application.
- 1:03:34Ever. So, how did you come up with a
- 1:03:38time factor for something? I've never done in 25 years?
- 1:03:44I also have on here, gold was the one, the c.o.d.
- 1:03:49Customs do again. Here's another item, I've never
- 1:03:54done in my life but I have time allotted to it.
- 1:04:00So where did they come up with these numbers that this is why
- 1:04:05the the lack of transparency Apparently is soda dismaying
- 1:04:09because of the fact that nobody can give you this information in
- 1:04:13black and white, nobody can sit down there and tell you where
- 1:04:17they got this from because frankly, folks, they just pulled
- 1:04:21it out of there, out of the air them change that walked in the
- 1:04:31region for the Stars. That's okay.
- 1:04:36Yeah, we knew you're going on that but that's what you know.
- 1:04:40So disarming about this is that we can't get these answers and I
- 1:04:45mean we delayed this from September.
- 1:04:47They had six more months to get this system down on top of the
- 1:04:5411 years since they initiated this.
- 1:04:57And we still can't get any Clarity to where these numbers
- 1:05:01are generated. How they're collected, how
- 1:05:04they're formulated you with nothing there.
- 1:05:06Are no answers. There are none from our Union
- 1:05:09who say they've been pressing the post office while I'm sorry
- 1:05:13it. Yeah, you're well beyond the
- 1:05:15full court press time. Folks.
- 1:05:17You know you've had your chance. It's time that, you know, let
- 1:05:20new leadership, take hold and guide this Union.
- 1:05:25Because folks, if you look at any of the social media, there
- 1:05:30are a lot of scared. People out there frustrated
- 1:05:33people, angry people and You know, it's not going to get much
- 1:05:37better. If what comes in October, is a
- 1:05:42complete turn around, and you have more than 66 percent, going
- 1:05:45down to have an argument as to why they still haven't gotten
- 1:05:50it, right? I still haven't found a way to
- 1:05:53get rid of DPS errors or get the DPS to flip the male, the right
- 1:05:57side up. When it's running through it.
- 1:05:59No my God. And then, and then it has that
- 1:06:03process for decades to, yes. There's, there's a problem there
- 1:06:07because it's funny that are local.
- 1:06:13Rural carrier specialist, wanted to have an adjustment on a
- 1:06:17carriers, you know, daily activity, log for upside-down
- 1:06:22DPS, say it was too much. Well if you're stating there's
- 1:06:28too much that you're telling me that you already have a standard
- 1:06:33set forth saying this is enough, this is too much.
- 1:06:37This is acceptable. This is not you can't have that
- 1:06:41standard already set. It because just recently, I got
- 1:06:45a box holder in my DPS and every one of them were upside down.
- 1:06:51Now, if I submit 622 upside down, is that going to trigger a
- 1:06:56red flag is exactly. Get the see how it is.
- 1:07:00Yeah, but the thing of it is I can prove it.
- 1:07:04The problem of it is is that local management also didn't
- 1:07:10prove it, okay? They didn't certify that this
- 1:07:12actually happened. So, you know, you're getting
- 1:07:16screwed both ways because Matt local management again failing
- 1:07:21to do their jobs and, you know, the your rule carrier specialist
- 1:07:24at the district level saying, no, yeah, the this is not
- 1:07:28feasible. This is not possible.
- 1:07:29It doesn't happen like this happens, like this every other
- 1:07:32day, folks. Yes, it does really good get
- 1:07:37really good at reading addresses upside down.
- 1:07:41Alright, I'm gonna go. I got a few things that were
- 1:07:44message to me on my personal side.
- 1:07:46So this one's kind of a three parter They just want to let us
- 1:07:52know. They a couple topics of
- 1:07:54discussion. Based on some recent posts,
- 1:07:57really a social webs. Number one, how we formula
- 1:08:02Office Works in recent posts. Someone said his Saturday's were
- 1:08:05taken away from him and now he has Thursdays often blamed, Rex
- 1:08:10those that are in a formula office.
- 1:08:12I will let you handle this one. Okay, well, let's start with the
- 1:08:18purpose of the Forum Hill office.
- 1:08:20The purpose of a formula office is if they do not have enough
- 1:08:26coverage. To allow everyone off on
- 1:08:30Saturday. They will go through the process
- 1:08:35to change your office from a regular office which allows all
- 1:08:40carriers to have Saturday as the relief day, unless you usually
- 1:08:45agree with management to change its during some time during the
- 1:08:48week to the formula, the formula takes into account, which is a
- 1:08:55computer program that they plug in how many routes total they
- 1:09:00have. How many of those routes are K
- 1:09:03routes J routes H routes auxiliary routes.
- 1:09:07How many RCA's are we've Replacements?
- 1:09:10Do you have and then it'll spit out that you had, you are
- 1:09:16allowed to have so many k routes To be on a Saturday j.j. routes
- 1:09:25which are every other Saturday take precedent for those
- 1:09:30Saturday slots. And then they fill in case after
- 1:09:34that. And that spy seniority, a mic
- 1:09:38hurt my right when you first go at least, when we were converted
- 1:09:44to a formula office. Few years back, they requested
- 1:09:49everybody to put their first second and third choice of
- 1:09:53relief day if you choose and they said they will consider
- 1:09:59those if you get assigned, whatever.
- 1:10:01Your days are of those three choices, That you bought
- 1:10:05quote-unquote volunteered for which they're actually supposed
- 1:10:10to. I'd have to look and see if the
- 1:10:12wording the Berber just change with the new rules from changing
- 1:10:18to where they have to pull for hiring list within six months
- 1:10:23with names on them. Before they can go formula from
- 1:10:27the old rules of where there was a minimum.
- 1:10:31At least three criteria at minimum.
- 1:10:34They had to do one of the first things was S4, volunteer.
- 1:10:38You'll people to volunteer to change their relief day.
- 1:10:41If you choose Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, and
- 1:10:46volunteer for those three days, You get the added benefit.
- 1:10:51If you go over burdened when they cut your route they can
- 1:10:56only cut it to. I'm going to say a 45k but the
- 1:11:00actual standard hours comes to very very, very I weep or I
- 1:11:07forget what the actual standard hours are I don't know if any of
- 1:11:10you guys have that or in front of me, if you choose.
- 1:11:17Friday, as your relief day, you have the option of a rotating
- 1:11:24Friday, Saturday, which means, for example, like I have the
- 1:11:28Friday, Saturday rotation, we one of the pay period I have
- 1:11:34Friday off week 2 of the pay period.
- 1:11:38I have Saturday off, which means that weekend in the middle of
- 1:11:44the pay period when I get my days off.
- 1:11:47Well, I have a three-day weekend, but then the opposite
- 1:11:51weekend the beginning and end of the pay period.
- 1:11:56I work straight through 6 days through if you are lowering
- 1:12:02seniority, and as you mentioned is by seniority, and every time
- 1:12:07you add or remove, A relief. Carrier a an RCA from the roles
- 1:12:15whether it be, they reside, they go regular, come pgf go regular.
- 1:12:23They're supposed to recalculate the formula which means you
- 1:12:28could either gain or lose Saturdays.
- 1:12:35If you, if they recalculate and you lose Saturday's the Junior
- 1:12:41regular. route with a Saturday relief, will lose that Saturday
- 1:12:49and will be put during the week, if You are if they gain
- 1:12:59Saturday's the senior carrier that has a non Saturday relief
- 1:13:07will be asked if they want to switch back to Saturday.
- 1:13:13It's the senior carrier doesn't want to change their release
- 1:13:16day, then they move it down to the next you know.
- 1:13:19Next senior carrier right? Well as I said they ask them if
- 1:13:23they want to change from make me back to Saturday the relief day
- 1:13:29stays with the route. if so, if For example, like I said, I have
- 1:13:38a Friday, Saturday rotation on my route.
- 1:13:42If I, you know, there's the route in the station that I live
- 1:13:48on potentially will be a, I'll be able to bid on that.
- 1:13:53They have a Thursday relief, if I did on that and get that, get
- 1:13:59awarded it. My relief, they will become
- 1:14:03Thursday because the Relief day stays with the route in this
- 1:14:08case. But with this question,
- 1:14:11Unfortunately, they were J which took Saturday prepping a
- 1:14:15preference when they went up to the k. yes, if they were a
- 1:14:26junior carrier, They would have had to loot, you know, go back,
- 1:14:31go to a non Saturday relieved, if they add more, you know, if
- 1:14:39they hire more RCA's into the office when they recalculate,
- 1:14:44they might get that Saturday back if they're seeing your
- 1:14:48carrier. Alright, this is going to bring
- 1:14:51us to the second part if you are not a formula.
- 1:14:58Office. You guys can get together and
- 1:15:03keep yourselves from going to a formula office by offering to
- 1:15:08change your schedule day off and then you don't have the formula
- 1:15:13and all that stuff. You work with your RCA's and
- 1:15:16your regular carriers and you could have like in my office.
- 1:15:20You can have Saturdays and Monday's off with enough RCA's.
- 1:15:25Or in one instance, one of our carriers went from H route to a
- 1:15:30j than a k. He opted for Friday's off on his
- 1:15:34own which actually helped us. So we didn't have to work around
- 1:15:40something and figure out. We had enough Subs to cover the
- 1:15:42routes, you don't have to go formula of people are willing to
- 1:15:46change their day off on their own.
- 1:15:49But that's what I was saying about.
- 1:15:51I wasn't sure of the asking for volunteers first before they
- 1:15:54start to process. If that was still in, you know,
- 1:15:58in effect, the one, the one thing I do want to add with the
- 1:16:03example, I gave, if I did over to this other route for
- 1:16:06Thursday, as I mentioned, if you volunteer for Tuesday, Wednesday
- 1:16:12or Thursday, You get that benefit of that 45k if they have
- 1:16:17to cut your route, if you go overburden.
- 1:16:20Because I'm bidding on to a route that as an existing
- 1:16:24Thursday, I didn't volunteer for it so I don't get that benefit.
- 1:16:30It's only if you volunteered to take that midweek relief day
- 1:16:38that you get that extra benefit. Alright, now we're going to go
- 1:16:43on to the second part of this one.
- 1:16:46And this second suggestion in our office, our supervisor
- 1:16:50redid, the matrix by wiping, the board clean and starting from
- 1:16:55scratch. Yep, that was a No-No.
- 1:16:58Afterwards. We found out that someone was
- 1:17:00bumped from their primary. This has since been corrected,
- 1:17:05thank you. I'm glad it has been corrected
- 1:17:08when you win a, when a supervisor decides to redo the
- 1:17:12Matrix, the primary stay the same Unless the you I mean, if
- 1:17:19they have a vacancy in, somebody wants to move a route whatever
- 1:17:22but you don't, there's no bumping of primaries.
- 1:17:25When you redo a matrix. Plain, and simple if that
- 1:17:30happens and it offered a choice. if a primary bump happens,
- 1:17:37Contact your designated union rep right away.
- 1:17:44But yes, it's basically going in and changing the secondaries and
- 1:17:49the third judge the second thirds.
- 1:17:51And that's it should be offered up by seniority on what and down
- 1:17:56on down the line to the junior RCA, which basically gets what
- 1:18:03slaughtered only happen when there is a change in relief
- 1:18:08carriers areas right. Yes, whether whatever goes one
- 1:18:13regular. One becomes a PT F, The Matrix
- 1:18:20should be redone in the PT F can only take routes that do not
- 1:18:26have RCA's on them. All right, so don't like
- 1:18:32mayonnaise, right? Contact your local designated
- 1:18:37union representative because that's not right.
- 1:18:39That you cannot take your primary without your permission,
- 1:18:42all right? Hey when is simple Matrix, there
- 1:18:48is a 20-page matrix guidelines out there it is available on the
- 1:18:55NRL see a site under the steward reference guide, it the letter,
- 1:19:00M for Matrix and there's all sorts of info on how a matrix
- 1:19:05should be done. All right, this last one from
- 1:19:10this person, retention Return to Sender.
- 1:19:14Certified mail should have customer signature upon return.
- 1:19:18Yes, some are just scanning Return to sender and putting in
- 1:19:22mailbox, some others, including a moderator sign it themselves
- 1:19:27and place and mailbox recently had a challenge of postmaster on
- 1:19:31this and she agreed after a meeting with somebody wink,
- 1:19:34wink. Okay.
- 1:19:37Yes, certified mail at time of delivery, no matter who it goes
- 1:19:42to, whether it's the recipient or the sender gets a signature
- 1:19:45line and simple. Anything else guys?
- 1:19:49On that one. Yeah, and that's extra credit on
- 1:19:53your yeah you can that accountable valuation, you get
- 1:19:57that accountable credit. If you get there the the sender
- 1:20:01to sign for it as the same with the the green card on the back
- 1:20:06scan that prepaid acceptance. I'm going to apologize.
- 1:20:10Are your depression to the person that sent this one to me
- 1:20:14on May 13th. I was out running a primary in
- 1:20:19my Ox route that day so I didn't get it.
- 1:20:21Really a chance I was going to get back to her and I didn't I
- 1:20:24apologize but we're going to address it now.
- 1:20:27She starts off by saying that I love your podcast, there's so
- 1:20:30much good for information. I'd like to point out that I
- 1:20:33feel like sometimes too much. Blame is placed on the carrier
- 1:20:37and not enough is placed on the extremely flawed system.
- 1:20:40Yes, we can't agree in most instances but that being said,
- 1:20:44I'd like to get your guy's opinion on something just to
- 1:20:47help me. Clarify what happened to and how
- 1:20:50I might fix my route. If it's at all possible.
- 1:20:53I've been doing most of the wreck scans for the last year on
- 1:20:56my route though, I've only fairly recently learned about
- 1:20:59the Rover. Each scan, my route started as
- 1:21:02an ox that was created after the 28th count. 2018.
- 1:21:06Scuse me, as of October of 2021, it was made a full row after
- 1:21:11taking pieces off of other of overburden routes, I was awarded
- 1:21:16the route became regular in January of twenty, twenty two
- 1:21:19graduations. It was also the sub on the route
- 1:21:22when it was the ox since mid 2020.
- 1:21:25So I know the proper scans have been done on parts of it that I
- 1:21:28have had. Since I've had them, I fairly
- 1:21:30recently November at a new apartment complex, Go Active and
- 1:21:34start moving people in. It is not yet at full capacity
- 1:21:38but it's getting close at this point.
- 1:21:40Maybe three-quarters full. Am I correct?
- 1:21:43That I will not get full credit for delivery until the count
- 1:21:46after the one year, mark of the full delivery of this place?
- 1:21:50All Also, with those boxes being considered active on my route
- 1:21:54since November are not having full residency.
- 1:21:56Yet could be hurting my coverage Factor, this have something to
- 1:22:01do with my route. Going from being a massively
- 1:22:03overburden, 48k 61 .2. 6 standard hours.
- 1:22:08We'll have 40 K that I just barely scraped into my route is
- 1:22:13also a very heavy CBU route out of 840.
- 1:22:17Act of boxes is 460 or CB you it cannot make my new eval time.
- 1:22:23So I want some hope that this will get straightened out
- 1:22:25because I love my job. I've always felt like I was
- 1:22:27pretty good at it, but now I just feel like I'm terrible at
- 1:22:30it. Sorry for the long message.
- 1:22:33All right, couple things in there, guys to use first thing
- 1:22:39off right off the bat. She said CB use.
- 1:22:41And that's the biggest biggest hurting thing in this whole
- 1:22:45evaluation system. It's the most flawed part of
- 1:22:48this evaluation system for starters.
- 1:22:52One of the things that we've been told is that if the first
- 1:22:55address in a CBU is vacant, the entire CPU is considered vacant,
- 1:23:00even if you have active addresses in it.
- 1:23:03Which shouldn't be happening. We group our mailboxes together
- 1:23:07out on the street for curbside delivery and it doesn't do that.
- 1:23:11But yet it's doing it's all the CPUs and that is hurting a lot
- 1:23:14of routes. That's part of the reason why
- 1:23:16you went to a 40K and yes you are.
- 1:23:19Also correct that not having a year worth of data for those
- 1:23:24apartments, perch your route. Because it goes back to all the
- 1:23:29data for the past 52 weeks supposedly.
- 1:23:33I've heard that some of its 13 13 weeks, some of its 52 weeks,
- 1:23:38depends on who you ask use carrier discretion.
- 1:23:42But the biggest biggest flaw in this entire system, has been the
- 1:23:47CB use and that has hurt more routes than anything else.
- 1:23:52Even the lower box volume even the mileage system, CD Jews have
- 1:23:57killed the rural route, big time, and I'm sorry that it
- 1:24:03happened to you. Yes, you're going to be going
- 1:24:05over your evaluation. It's going to happen
- 1:24:08unfortunately because you have a route that is bigger than what
- 1:24:13it was evaluated for. But as your volume goes, along
- 1:24:18in this apartment complex fills up, especially if they're
- 1:24:22long-term tenants, it's going to benefit the route in the long
- 1:24:25run and hopefully, By the count. In this October, you'll see an
- 1:24:30improvement in the numbers. And hopefully if they fix the
- 1:24:32CBU issue, it'll really raises the numbers for everybody.
- 1:24:37We hope supposedly Things like that.
- 1:24:42And if you said you started getting deliveries in November
- 1:24:44by the September count, October evaluation, you'll have nearly
- 1:24:53awful year. Yeah, almost 52 weeks worth of
- 1:24:56data for that least the first unit.
- 1:25:03So, And I don't know what with the new system, what they have
- 1:25:13in play for activating new addresses in the interim.
- 1:25:22Like, with the old system, you add them to your edit book, Adam
- 1:25:25to your portable three. It would give you credit, I
- 1:25:30would presume by activating made.
- 1:25:36Way that there's something that would start giving you credit
- 1:25:39for the new addresses. But again, I haven't heard
- 1:25:42anything one way or another about that.
- 1:25:46Anybody else? Alright, one more thing we're
- 1:25:52going to touch on before we wind down, this was another message.
- 1:25:55I received this morning, could you please remind everyone to
- 1:25:58vote for the national delegates in to stop voted for very, very
- 1:26:03old retirees, Alabama, just mailed out their delegate
- 1:26:07ballots, by the way, people And we have twin evaluated to
- 1:26:14Pennsylvania did to Illinois's are dropped in the mail.
- 1:26:17Michigan should probably be going out soon, is going out
- 1:26:21this week. Please, please vote for
- 1:26:25delegates. If you're in our Facebook group,
- 1:26:27under the featured post, you will find information about
- 1:26:31people police names anyways. Yes please please put their name
- 1:26:36their if you don't Nuys names on there. 90% of people have social
- 1:26:44media, you could even do a Google search, do a little
- 1:26:48research, ask co-workers, ask somebody, you may know, you
- 1:26:53know, That may know them on down the line.
- 1:26:57I social media, obviously, people are going to ask
- 1:27:01questions, they're no use your discretion on that but please
- 1:27:07vote for your National delegates.
- 1:27:09I'm not going to tell you who to vote for who not to vote for,
- 1:27:12that's your own personal choice, but please vote.
- 1:27:19And remember the people you vote for are the ones that are going
- 1:27:24to make the choices at the national level for you, are
- 1:27:27going to make the choices for you at the state level.
- 1:27:29If you had State voting for that.
- 1:27:31So you want to put people vote for people that may think like
- 1:27:36you do. So if you can do your research,
- 1:27:39do your research. See how check out previous
- 1:27:43meeting things like that? See how people voted.
- 1:27:47There's a lot of Records out there of stuff that anybody can
- 1:27:52find pretty easily in a lot of places.
- 1:27:55So, if you get that ballot, only vote the names you want to go to
- 1:28:01Nacional, There are people that are paid to go to National
- 1:28:05already. So, make sure you know who that
- 1:28:10is. That's going to National on a
- 1:28:11paid trip, whether it be State members or national like your
- 1:28:17District reps. People like that, that are paid
- 1:28:20to go already. Vote for people, if you know an
- 1:28:25RCA that you like that's running for National delegate vote for
- 1:28:31them. Let's get some younger people
- 1:28:35appear to look even new people even if you don't know them.
- 1:28:41But you know, there are new RCA help them up, get them up there.
- 1:28:47And again, I am not bashing my retirees in any form, I have
- 1:28:52utmost respect for my retirees, you've done your time.
- 1:28:55There are some really awesome retirees that are still out
- 1:28:58there, fighting the good fight for the carriers are in the
- 1:29:00trenches today. Those guys are awesome.
- 1:29:04We also have retirees that have never handled a scanner have
- 1:29:08never handled DPS have never handled Amazon that are clueless
- 1:29:14to what the carriers are going. What we are going through today.
- 1:29:21So please keep in mind of that as well when you're voting
- 1:29:26either get their retirees are just as important.
- 1:29:29Because Guess what at some point you too, could be a retiree.
- 1:29:34And they exactly are going to have the opinions for
- 1:29:37retirement. And what retirement should be
- 1:29:40for you is our retirees will have that opinion.
- 1:29:44So they need to go just as much as regular carriers RCA's arcs.
- 1:29:50anybody on the real craft they have just as much say as the
- 1:29:55person next to them in this Union because we're all in this
- 1:29:58together, We're all one team here.
- 1:30:03Well, you got anything to add on that.
- 1:30:05Dear. Okay.
- 1:30:06On a personal note in the state of Pennsylvania, we're allowed
- 1:30:11to vote up to. I believe it's 44 candidates.
- 1:30:15That does not mean you have to vote the 44.
- 1:30:18So like the ones that you feel are aligned to your interest in
- 1:30:22regards to the union and the post office from the retirees
- 1:30:27again, there are some very good ones that attend there.
- 1:30:30We have one in Pennsylvania, I'll give a shout-out Out to
- 1:30:33Wild Bill who usually gets a sweet and then has a flip chart
- 1:30:39in his room with a magic marker. And he's got, oh God, gazillions
- 1:30:45a tons of information, he does. He used to do the Eagle Fest and
- 1:30:50it was a big information, you know, tight, get together.
- 1:30:54And let me tell you again, the resolutions that man pumps out,
- 1:30:57you know, from, from that eagle vest.
- 1:30:59And at the National Convention, which stupid by that is, Goodbye
- 1:31:04a good carrier, knowledgeable in the union, huh?
- 1:31:09Some of the other retirees, I'll withhold my comments and
- 1:31:13judgment because I don't want to get more fan mail, but the fact
- 1:31:20of the matter is that, you know, some of these people have served
- 1:31:24your time, they've done their Duty.
- 1:31:27Let younger people get involved because we are having a drain on
- 1:31:31our Union. The the number of inquiries of
- 1:31:34how to quit the union is staggering.
- 1:31:37And as last year, they noted, they lost 5,000 members last
- 1:31:42year 5,000 members. And honestly, guys, I'm going to
- 1:31:48bring I'm going to bring this up.
- 1:31:50But D certifying the union is not the answer.
- 1:31:55No is not. You would be left at the mercy
- 1:32:00of the post office. And really do not want that.
- 1:32:07The answer is thing, they would get rid of the first thing they
- 1:32:11would get rid of is the retirement.
- 1:32:15From the post office. Idli would get rid of everything
- 1:32:18they could, they would cut your pay.
- 1:32:22Layoff quality. Sure, hours, increase your hours
- 1:32:26and increase your workload. And decrease your benefits.
- 1:32:31Yes, yes. So it's a double-edged sword.
- 1:32:38Yeah. Or it would be Union completely
- 1:32:42by way of like the highway contract carriers.
- 1:32:45Yeah, exactly Highway contract carrier, what?
- 1:32:52It's like to work for the Postal Service, I have one in my
- 1:32:57office, trust me, he's very opinionated and he is not afraid
- 1:33:00to say it. Very important part of this
- 1:33:10craft. Contractors in my office.
- 1:33:16And if you took the F-bomb out of his language, he wouldn't be
- 1:33:20able to talk, right? But goes out.
- 1:33:26This is where voting for the proper delegates.
- 1:33:31Oh, ouch in general. When you only have 20 percent of
- 1:33:34the membership, voting for anything, whether it's a
- 1:33:36contract or delegates. I mean, that's only 20% that
- 1:33:43you're allowing, yeah, National officers that is voting for
- 1:33:50contract, that's voting for National officers and when
- 1:33:54you're voting the same, and I'm going to repeat myself, like
- 1:33:57I've said on several episodes in the past.
- 1:34:00When you're voting for the same people, you're going to get the
- 1:34:03same results. We don't.
- 1:34:10We don't care whether you like or hate the people that are in
- 1:34:14the office, they're just there, temporarily the union, the union
- 1:34:19is every single one of us, dues-paying and non dues-paying
- 1:34:25Arc. RCA PTF regular carrier retiree.
- 1:34:32We are all the rural carrier Union.
- 1:34:36We are all the NRL CA and our voice.
- 1:34:40Is what propels us through the next contract and your voice is
- 1:34:46either being a delegate or voting for a delegate. being
- 1:34:53involved in the union, is the most important job you have at
- 1:34:58the postal service because the union is you, and the union is
- 1:35:05only as strong as its least, informed member Oh no, we're in
- 1:35:14trouble. Then I had to call you out on
- 1:35:18that one. Conform number.
- 1:35:25But on that note, the key thing is to vote.
- 1:35:28I've already seen a couple people say, well, I didn't
- 1:35:31recognize any names on there, so I threw my bail it out.
- 1:35:35And put your egg research. Exactly.
- 1:35:42And I recognize the names in general just because I am very
- 1:35:47active. I go to everything whether I'm a
- 1:35:50delegate or I'm paid to go or not and I'm paying my own way.
- 1:35:53Yes, as an RCA. I will pinch, I go to
- 1:35:56everything. I mean you could ask well James
- 1:36:00James. He's me at everything that since
- 1:36:02he started to go I go to mid states, I go to all the
- 1:36:05boosters, I started going to my state board meetings because our
- 1:36:08state has opened board meetings. I go and observe those, I go to
- 1:36:14my regional meetings and maybe next year, I may start and do
- 1:36:18regional meeting hopping just just to see.
- 1:36:21I and I that's a goal of mine. and then I go to National It my
- 1:36:28own. What?
- 1:36:29I paid my own way to Nationals last year I wasn't paid to go.
- 1:36:31I was an alternate delegate, you know.
- 1:36:34It's is what it is. Part of that is you went just in
- 1:36:38case they needed you as a delegate to yes.
- 1:36:41But until they actually decide your delegate, your unpaid to go
- 1:36:45for our state. Yes.
- 1:36:46Every state is different how they do that.
- 1:36:48Every case is different, but Michigan actually pays their
- 1:36:51delegates to go. Alternates do not get paid to
- 1:36:54go. However, I do go Norma that.
- 1:36:58I was an alternate last year. I was a delegate in 2019 and
- 1:37:02Grapevine. I got bumped up to delegate like
- 1:37:06the week, just prior to leaving. It was just a matter of days in
- 1:37:102018, which was my first national when it was in Grand
- 1:37:12Rapids, then I was an alternate, I was too far down to get bumped
- 1:37:16up, but that was my first national experience.
- 1:37:19So I had that under my belt, you don't have to be a delegate.
- 1:37:22Or an alternate to attend National any dues paying member
- 1:37:28can attend National. You just have to register ahead
- 1:37:33of time. You can't vote, but you can at
- 1:37:35least see the process. You can see what everybody's
- 1:37:39talking about. You can make those notes on
- 1:37:43who's voting, what down, or who's voting, what up or, you
- 1:37:48know, you can do that process without actually being a
- 1:37:51delegate. But you, again, you Don't have
- 1:37:53the voting, right? As a non delegate, you can be
- 1:37:55there in witness it. And sometimes if something is a
- 1:38:00good point, a may ask to do suspend the rules and allow a
- 1:38:06non delegate to speak at the microphone that does happen even
- 1:38:10on the national level it does happen.
- 1:38:13So you know there is that possibility as well.
- 1:38:16And remember top of that you can learn so much about the union
- 1:38:22through that. Process.
- 1:38:24It is really a mental overload and it's not all the partying
- 1:38:28that a lot of people say. Either everybody sees or yeah,
- 1:38:33everybody sees the photos from the Banquets and people chilling
- 1:38:37out owed on patios or rooms or whatever you guys when you see
- 1:38:43those, that is the unwind after sitting on a convention floor,
- 1:38:4748 hours, For more than 12 hours.
- 1:38:52Yeah, Friday's going, Friday's go until elections are over and
- 1:38:58it can go pretty late caucus. Caucus night will go super late
- 1:39:03as well as it depending on how many people are running for
- 1:39:07office. That go through caucus on how
- 1:39:08long it's going to take. I think it was like 10:30 last
- 1:39:11year when I got done and 30 11:00.
- 1:39:14Yeah, yep. Yep.
- 1:39:17And you know that That's that's for a long night and then Friday
- 1:39:22is elections and that starts in the morning, why they're
- 1:39:26counting ballots in between elections and stuff.
- 1:39:29That's when they're going through resolutions or appeals
- 1:39:32or or whatever else they have on the floor business to business
- 1:39:38and they do, you know? And then once the ballots are
- 1:39:41counted, and they finished that one up, and now it's whoever won
- 1:39:44that one and then they go on to start the next election.
- 1:39:49And then why the teller committee has are counting votes
- 1:39:54and, you know, we're back to doing business again.
- 1:39:57So, Friday's can get pretty long especially if you have a lot of
- 1:40:01people running for like executive committee.
- 1:40:03Men, for example, and if you got 46, people running for one
- 1:40:09position and it's going to keep going until you have a winner
- 1:40:13because it is by a two-thirds majority.
- 1:40:15Am I correct? I believe.
- 1:40:20Oh yes. Oh yes.
- 1:40:25So, and I want to, I want to make this point, is that
- 1:40:30everybody is listening or, you know, here's, here's this
- 1:40:35information on our podcast, please.
- 1:40:37Remember you can't fight for yourself for your rights, for
- 1:40:42your pay for for, you know, let's say Integrity in your
- 1:40:49office, in regards to how you're treated.
- 1:40:52If you're not part of the Union, if you're not in the fight, As a
- 1:41:00union member, you have no fight, you're just a ride-along.
- 1:41:04So please consider that, you know, all these people who are
- 1:41:07considering dropping out of the Union, you will have no.
- 1:41:10Say in what happens down the road, it will be dictated by
- 1:41:14those in the union. So, if you want a dog in this
- 1:41:18fight, stay in the fight, you won't be able to vote for your
- 1:41:22your National delegates. You won't be able to put forth
- 1:41:25resolutions that you're counting meetings or state meetings.
- 1:41:29You won't be able to access the NRL CA website.
- 1:41:35Your local designated Union. Steward is required by law to
- 1:41:41support you to the fullest extent when you have an issue in
- 1:41:45the office but you don't have access to all the information
- 1:41:50unless you get it from your designated union,
- 1:41:53representative, or from a co-worker that is part of the
- 1:41:56inner LCA, otherwise, you'll have to get it through sources
- 1:42:00third party, And that's what you'll be doing by going to your
- 1:42:05designee. Union, rep is you'll be getting
- 1:42:07it through a third party Source because they'll get it from some
- 1:42:11from National and then disperse it to everybody.
- 1:42:16But you won't have any way to say, I want to put a resolution
- 1:42:21fourth to prevent major cuts to people's pee.
- 1:42:28Without being part of the Union. You won't be able to turn around
- 1:42:33and say, I want Bill to be the president of the inner.
- 1:42:37I'll see a. Yeah, or I want Kristen to be
- 1:42:44the president of the state of Michigan.
- 1:42:46Yeah, for example, those are examples.
- 1:42:51I'm not saying whether they're running for those positions are
- 1:42:54not. But first step, any, any member
- 1:42:58should do. Go attend your State Convention.
- 1:43:02Yes, that's the first step you need to do state conventions are
- 1:43:04starting up. If you want to see how the
- 1:43:07business side of stuff works start with a State Convention.
- 1:43:11A Boosters are good there. Informational on the national
- 1:43:16level. Your Regional meetings are
- 1:43:18awesome. They're informational.
- 1:43:20You get more. I'm ask questions.
- 1:43:23Get the information but your state conventional Manner and
- 1:43:28national conventions are our business.
- 1:43:32That's really what they are. They are the business end.
- 1:43:36Of the Union, whether it's the state level, or the national
- 1:43:39level, I, you know, I would start with a State Convention,
- 1:43:44as Josh said, is a first-timer at Nationals last year he goes,
- 1:43:48this is like a State Convention on steroids.
- 1:43:51Oh God. It is, it is, I mean, you think
- 1:43:55about it, when you go to your state conventions, you may have
- 1:43:58a, you know, a couple few hundred people there.
- 1:44:02And you know, you go through the business stuff, but when you get
- 1:44:06to the National end and you're dealing with Eleven Hundred
- 1:44:09delegates, that's just the delegates.
- 1:44:12That's not, you know, oh their union members that are attending
- 1:44:16his guests and guests mean, you're looking at 2,000 people.
- 1:44:21Just wonder I convention in one room.
- 1:44:24Yes, exactly. And yeah, that's that could be a
- 1:44:27bit overwhelming if you're not used to that type of stuff.
- 1:44:31So I know from our space, our State Convention that one night
- 1:44:35we went until 8:30 at night. We started at 8 in the morning.
- 1:44:39Yeah I've been well what was it? Grand Rapids 2018?
- 1:44:43It was what 9:00 9:30 at night when we got out of there.
- 1:44:46Hmm. Yeah.
- 1:44:47And you still have stuff to do, I still had to drive three and a
- 1:44:50half hours back home, you know. Yeah, it's time we were done it,
- 1:44:56you know? And if it goes, until it's gone,
- 1:44:59you have to sit there through it all and make your Also, when
- 1:45:02you're a delegate because it's very important as a delegate, to
- 1:45:07have the voice of your constituents, the people who
- 1:45:11elected, you just like Politics, the people that elected you, you
- 1:45:15have to vote in the way that you think your delegates in your
- 1:45:19state would want you to vote on that stuff.
- 1:45:22It's not about what you think is, right?
- 1:45:24It's about what you think is best for everybody else.
- 1:45:29The state of Pennsylvania. You must attend all meetings.
- 1:45:34Opening close to get paid as a delegate.
- 1:45:38Yep. Same in Michigan.
- 1:45:39Same in Michigan, you know, and I'm going to say this, you know,
- 1:45:46I've never been one. I am really comfortable talking
- 1:45:49to, like, a smaller group, you know, like my office or my old
- 1:45:53office, you know, maybe a dozen a couple dozen people, whatever,
- 1:45:59you know that to me is not intimidating but last year Going
- 1:46:05up to the podium, my first time up their nominating, bill for
- 1:46:08president last year and you know, and everything happened so
- 1:46:14fast. I didn't even grab my notes off
- 1:46:16of my chair. And I'm standing up there with
- 1:46:19the light shining in my eyes and 2,000 people standing in front
- 1:46:25of me. I admit I was intimidated,
- 1:46:27everybody said I sounded great but to myself, I was such a ball
- 1:46:32of nerves and then when Bill went up and nominated me.
- 1:46:36And I had to go up there and give my my speech for running
- 1:46:39for vice president, and I didn't even have my notes with me and I
- 1:46:44completely Wing this bullshit and did it work?
- 1:46:48No, and did very well. Thank you.
- 1:46:51And then, and then caucus on Thursday night, you know, I had
- 1:46:55an idea of what I want to talk about.
- 1:46:57I literally between convention when we, when we Recess for the
- 1:47:03day and what would the hour hour and a half that we had before
- 1:47:08caucuses started, I literally was sitting at Bill and Ice
- 1:47:12booth. How what I was going to talk
- 1:47:20about during caucus? I was that unprepared but I
- 1:47:28winged it. And by the time that I got done
- 1:47:30and got through Caucasus you know I had to smaller groups
- 1:47:34with a smaller States and then you get back into the main
- 1:47:36convention floor with sack because it's absolutely huge and
- 1:47:40you're dealing with what I had to deal with in there.
- 1:47:43By the time it came down to the elections and Concession speech,
- 1:47:49you know, I went up back up to the podium and I was completely
- 1:47:51comfortable. It was not intimidating to me at
- 1:47:55one point another, I worked through that.
- 1:48:00And the easiest thing to remember is that they're
- 1:48:03carriers, just like you, exactly, exactly.
- 1:48:06Exactly. And, you know, if anybody saw me
- 1:48:09at Mid State, you know, I first thing on our first little,
- 1:48:14someone are things that there I was sitting with my Iowa friends
- 1:48:18and then I'd be out at break time, spent with my Wisconsin
- 1:48:21friends, and then, you know, I'm roaming around talking to my
- 1:48:25Kansas friends, and Ohio, friends.
- 1:48:28And, you know, Do the North Dakota president out on
- 1:48:32cigarette break? I am one of those that.
- 1:48:35So once I've gotten to know more people and talking to others,
- 1:48:39you know, and once you get up there, it's a completely
- 1:48:43different experience. But it's rather humbling.
- 1:48:45And then you just get to realize, you know, what these
- 1:48:47people are just like me and we're all in this together and
- 1:48:53you're just talking on a bigger platform to your family.
- 1:48:58All right, I'm done rambling. So we're going to wind this
- 1:49:01down. We are brothers, brothers and
- 1:49:04sisters and the rural craft. Exactly.
- 1:49:08I have met some. It really your adopted.
- 1:49:12You're adopted. We know.
- 1:49:17I'm not gonna say what I'm thinking right now.
- 1:49:19We might have to edit it out. You can pretty good.
- 1:49:24Not having to edit anything this episode.
- 1:49:26No, we've been good. I was just going to say, Bill's
- 1:49:28my adopted sugar daddy, but I know it's, you know, we are,
- 1:49:35we're one, big family. And I've II love the convention
- 1:49:42and the regional conferences atmosphere because you get to
- 1:49:47connects with your brothers and sisters from all over.
- 1:49:51And you can hear what they're dealing with just as much as you
- 1:49:54are. And when you think your office
- 1:49:57is bad, trust me. There's always somebody up at
- 1:49:59the microphone with something worse than what you're going
- 1:50:02through. I have your mind.
- 1:50:05I have to remind my co-workers all the time going.
- 1:50:08I went through worse at my previous office or I went
- 1:50:11through much better, but, trust me, guys, I've had or he's on
- 1:50:15the national level. That'll make your head spin.
- 1:50:22I got to make a get this coffee. Mugs made up that say, you can't
- 1:50:25make this shit up, you know? Exactly.
- 1:50:29I mean you really can't. Okay, so we're going to wind
- 1:50:35down because we've been on here for a while tonight and James
- 1:50:39and he, your final comments and thoughts for the evening.
- 1:50:45Well, the reminder to everybody is State conventions are coming
- 1:50:49up. So, if you want to attend,
- 1:50:53remember that Union activities are one of the few things that
- 1:50:57can be approved in extreme Advanced beyond the 60 days and
- 1:51:03they should be automatically approved.
- 1:51:05As long as there's relief available, that's the hardest
- 1:51:08part is having relief available, but talk with your local
- 1:51:13designated union. Rep.
- 1:51:14If you want to go to your conventions, See what you can do
- 1:51:19to get yourself to go to the conventions, whether you take
- 1:51:22care of it yourself, or you get paid by your state, or County,
- 1:51:26or whatever, to go try and find a way to get there.
- 1:51:30Because it's a boatload of information that you can use for
- 1:51:34this craft. We're all in this together.
- 1:51:38And like I said, the weakest part of the Union is the least
- 1:51:43informed member. So get yourself, informed.
- 1:51:46Ask questions, get answers, whether your dues paying or not,
- 1:51:53you are our brothers and sisters in the rural craft, and we're
- 1:51:56here for you. Josh, your turn did. to follow
- 1:52:07James a sentiment, you know, like you said, There's a lot of
- 1:52:13good information that comes out of the conventions and seminars.
- 1:52:18There's also you know that to with Christians ramblings.
- 1:52:23There's also in the downtime, go a lot of camaraderie and new
- 1:52:28friendships that are made. I made a lot of good friends,
- 1:52:32you know, a lot of friends met a lot of people that have been
- 1:52:35interacting with the last few years on Facebook at the
- 1:52:40National Convention and got to hang out and talk to them and
- 1:52:44actually put an actual face. to the comments or the one, you
- 1:52:51know, the few that I actually talked to on the phone, you know
- 1:52:55to ask questions here are there you know like my cohorts and
- 1:53:00said earlier Getting out of the Union.
- 1:53:05Isn't the answer getting more getting more involved to the
- 1:53:10extent that you can is even if it's just, Filling out the
- 1:53:17ballot for National delegates voting on the national contract,
- 1:53:23which come February. They're going to start
- 1:53:27negotiations for a next contract.
- 1:53:34Try and have a good week. If you get overwhelmed, take a
- 1:53:39step back, take a deep breath. Get back in there.
- 1:53:44We'll see you next time. Elder you're up.
- 1:53:50Me, it's my turn. Oh boy, yes, you get to talk,
- 1:53:54it's all you. oh, oui We had a association with individual or
- 1:54:07while back and it took a bit of a sour turn because of the fact
- 1:54:13that we were expected to do things that would jeopardize our
- 1:54:17standing in the union and we took the stand that we were not
- 1:54:22going to do that because of the fact that we can't fight if we
- 1:54:25are outside of the Union, if we are no longer members, you know,
- 1:54:31and I do mean members. Because of, you know, the
- 1:54:34position that's individuals taking we wouldn't be here
- 1:54:39podcasting on our own time, giving you information to help
- 1:54:44you do your jobs to help protect yourselves, protect your
- 1:54:47paycheck and that's the type of individuals that we have.
- 1:54:52Here we are. Let me say it morally and
- 1:54:57ethically inclined to be you know the best source possible
- 1:55:04for you to get information to help protect your job to help
- 1:55:07protect your sanity. And I can say that with complete
- 1:55:12confidence and we're entertaining to yes.
- 1:55:16But the thing of it is that, you know, we have an obligation to
- 1:55:21everybody who listens and and We don't know you all, you don't
- 1:55:26know us but we're here for your benefit.
- 1:55:30And the only benefit that we can provide is if we're in the
- 1:55:35Union. And the union like James would
- 1:55:39say is only as strong as its weakest link and you know the
- 1:55:44problem with that statement is that often the weakest link is
- 1:55:48the one that's never heard from. They're the ones who suffer in
- 1:55:51silence and say, oh, well do you you won't do anything or this?
- 1:55:56I filed a grievance. It didn't go my way, keep
- 1:55:59filing. Okay, don't stop.
- 1:56:02Trust me. From a guy who has killed more
- 1:56:04trees than the Brazilian Rainforest, filing grievances.
- 1:56:08File file, file, protect yourself and up for yourself,
- 1:56:12find somebody to stand up for you.
- 1:56:14So find somebody to help you and educate, you learn.
- 1:56:19I have carriers, my office won't spend five minutes that is day
- 1:56:22checking on the resources available to them and they come
- 1:56:25running to me and say, bill bill bill.
- 1:56:28Well, you know, I gladly answer the questions.
- 1:56:31But the fact of the matter is these resources are available to
- 1:56:34you if you're in the Union. So folks, if you want to protect
- 1:56:42your job, if you want to protect your pay, if you want to protect
- 1:56:45your future, then learn about your craft, learn about the
- 1:56:50contract, learn the M38. The LM learn about the National
- 1:56:56Labor Relations Board in regards to, you know, how you're treated
- 1:56:59at work, whether they're withholding pay, any of the
- 1:57:04subject matters that concern you can be l've.
- 1:57:08If you look into it, don't depend on everybody else to
- 1:57:13protect your job. That's not their responsibility
- 1:57:16is falls on the you. Like, I always say, go out
- 1:57:22there, do the best job you can to the best of your ability, be
- 1:57:25safe, go home. Like I say, you're the most
- 1:57:29important delivery today. I don't care about the mail.
- 1:57:33I don't care about the packages, get home to your loved ones.
- 1:57:37That's the most important thing to me.
- 1:57:39Because guess what, folks you can't be replaced.
- 1:57:43Absolutely, and take everything we say with carrier discretion.
- 1:57:49Remember, we are here for entertainment purposes.
- 1:57:52Only Royal to, yeah, I may have dipped into that Crown Royal
- 1:58:00little too much this evening, but it's all good.
- 1:58:06And that note guys, what do you think?
- 1:58:08Kristin? What are my thoughts?
- 1:58:10Oh, I could go on and on, let's not go that far this week.
- 1:58:22And it's spring in full force and I'm loving it though.
- 1:58:28I don't really care for the shorts one day and bundle up the
- 1:58:32next day. Right now, that's going on in
- 1:58:34Northeast Michigan, but goodness again, that is definitely
- 1:58:39Michigan. But yeah, definitely, guys go
- 1:58:43out there. Do the jobs to your fullest and
- 1:58:46best abilities and, you know, get home safely to everyone.
- 1:58:52Inventions are coming up. Delegate ballots are out for
- 1:58:54National, please vote. That's that's all I ask.
- 1:58:59Is that you please vote, even if you only recognize one name on
- 1:59:03there. And, you know, you know what, I
- 1:59:06really like what this person stands for, then just vote for
- 1:59:09the one person. You don't have to vote for
- 1:59:13whatever number of delegates that your state gets,
- 1:59:15everybody's different based on the number of members in the
- 1:59:19state. So, I'm that now everybody have
- 1:59:23a good week and we'll see you back next week.
