- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's a Monday, it's the 19th of
- 0:16May and I don't know about you, but I had a fantastic weekend
- 0:21with a family wedding, everyone together celebrating.
- 0:25Oh so good. But I guess if we did this.
- 0:28Every weekend it'd drive us. Crazy but but boy, so good to be
- 0:32able to celebrate like that. I wonder.
- 0:33What your weekend was like. Hopefully you had a moment to
- 0:37stop, get to do something that filled you up, filled up your
- 0:40bucket ready for the next week. And here we are on a Monday,
- 0:44ready to empty our buckets on the.
- 0:46Good things that we're going to achieve in the world.
- 0:49Well, maybe you're on holidays and this is just a moment to
- 0:52chill and continue filling your bucket or wherever you are,
- 0:55whatever's going on, great to have your company because we are
- 0:59going to peel open our Bibles once again.
- 1:02Yes, the bookmark is still there in the book of Hebrews as we are
- 1:07working through this crackerjack of a book, discovering the
- 1:10depth, the power and the implications of everything that
- 1:14Jesus has done for us. Oh, I'm keen to keep on going.
- 1:17Do you want to join me? Oh, you.
- 1:19Betcha, let's do it. Let's.
- 1:21Read together Hebrews chapter 6. So let us stop going over the
- 1:36basic teachings about Christ again and again.
- 1:39Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding.
- 1:43Surely we don't need to start again with the fundamental
- 1:46importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith
- 1:50in God. You don't need further
- 1:52instruction about baptism, the laying on of hands, the
- 1:56resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgement.
- 1:59And so, God willing, we will move forward to further
- 2:03understanding. For it is impossible to bring
- 2:06back to repentance those who were once enlightened, those who
- 2:10have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy
- 2:13Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the Word of God and
- 2:17the power of the age to come, and who then turn away from God.
- 2:23It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance.
- 2:28By rejecting the Son of God. They themselves are nailing him
- 2:32to the cross once again and holding Him up to public shame.
- 2:38When the ground soaks up the falling rain and bears a good
- 2:42crop for the farmer, it has God's blessing.
- 2:46But if a field bears thorns and thistles, it is useless.
- 2:50The farmer will soon condemn that field and burn it.
- 2:54Dear friends, even though we are talking this way, we really
- 2:59don't believe it applies to you. We are confident that you are
- 3:03meant for better things, things that come with salvation.
- 3:08For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you
- 3:12have worked for Him and how you have shown your love to Him by
- 3:17caring for other believers, as you still do.
- 3:20Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as
- 3:25long as life lasts in order to make certain that what you hope
- 3:30for will come true. Then you will not become
- 3:34spiritually dull and indifferent.
- 3:36Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going
- 3:40to inherit God's promises because of their faith and
- 3:44endurance. For example, there was God's
- 3:48promise to Abraham. Since there was no one greater
- 3:51to swear by, God took an oath on his own name saying, I will
- 3:56certainly bless you, and I will multiply your descendants beyond
- 4:01number. Then Abraham waited patiently,
- 4:05and he received what God had promised.
- 4:09Now when people take an oath, they call on someone greater
- 4:12than themselves to hold them to it, and without any question
- 4:16that oath is binding. God also bound himself with an
- 4:21oath so that those who received the promise could be perfectly
- 4:25sure that he would never change his mind.
- 4:28So God has given both His promise and his oath.
- 4:32These two things are unchangeable because it is
- 4:36impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to
- 4:41Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the
- 4:45hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and
- 4:50trustworthy anchor for our souls.
- 4:53It leads us through the curtain into God's inner sanctuary.
- 4:58Jesus has already gone in there for us.
- 5:01He has become our eternal High Priest in the order of
- 5:06Melchizedek. Oh, what a gift this is to us.
- 5:19We read here that the hope that you give us, Jesus, is a strong
- 5:24and trustworthy anchor for our souls.
- 5:28What a beautiful image that it's in you and everything that you
- 5:33have achieved for us that we can rest in and that we can have
- 5:37hope IN and we can drop anchor the strong and trustworthy
- 5:44anchor for our souls to sit in the sure knowledge of all that
- 5:49you've done for us. Jesus, that it's through you
- 5:53that we are forgiven. It's through you that we are
- 5:57members of your family. It's through you that we know
- 6:02that we are loved intimately. Oh, we're so grateful for this.
- 6:09Help us today as we go about the busyness of whatever it is that
- 6:12we face, to be able to rest and to drop the anchor of our soul
- 6:18into those promises and not the shifting tides and currents of
- 6:24this world. We love you and we're so
- 6:28grateful for you and all you've done for us, Jesus.
- 6:31And we pray all of this in your name, Amen.
