- 2:25Speaker 4: It's Brian Hughes.
- 2:26Speaker 5: How you doing man, I'm doing great this morning.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Little cold out there, little you think you do something
- 2:30Speaker 4: about that?
- 2:31Speaker 5: You know you would think.
- 2:32Speaker 4: First of all, I want to say, if you were
- 2:33Speaker 4: tuning into your Attorney General J. B. McCuskey, we apologize.
- 2:37Speaker 4: The Ag was trying to squeeze in a call or
- 2:39Speaker 4: visit with me this morning. Unfortunately his flight to somewhere
- 2:42Speaker 4: got delayed and sent me attached a couple hours ago.
- 2:45Speaker 4: Said he's setting on a tarmac somewhere right now, so
- 2:48Speaker 4: we'll get the rescheduled for a later time. In the meantime,
- 2:51Speaker 4: the part of Attorney General JB. McCuskey will be played
- 2:53Speaker 4: by meteorologist Brian Hughes.
- 2:55Speaker 5: Listen, I've become an expert in law of late.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Okay, there you go, there you go. So what was
- 3:00Speaker 4: going on up in the sky that I missed last night.
- 3:03Speaker 5: Well, it actually happened the CME, the coronal mass ejection,
- 3:07Speaker 5: That's exactly what I thought it was.
- 3:09Speaker 6: Yes, that.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Actually hit Earth about six hours earlier than was initially forecasts,
- 3:17Speaker 2: which we knew that was a possibility. So you could
- 3:20Speaker 2: only truely see the northern lights like right at sunset. Now,
- 3:25Speaker 2: if it had happened six hours later, you would have
- 3:27Speaker 2: seen a glow in the night sky like we haven't seen.
- 3:31Speaker 6: Listen.
- 3:31Speaker 2: This was actually going to be better than the last
- 3:33Speaker 2: one that we had back that was back in the summer,
- 3:37Speaker 2: I think. So that happened last night yesterday evening last night,
- 3:42Speaker 2: and then slowly faded away. But you know, that was
- 3:46Speaker 2: the first thing of many things to come.
- 3:48Speaker 4: All right, all right, So we started off, as you
- 3:50Speaker 4: alluded to, with a lot of cold. It's still pretty
- 3:54Speaker 4: cold out there.
- 3:55Speaker 5: Yeah, Listen.
- 3:55Speaker 2: We've had temperatures in the single digits. We had wind
- 3:58Speaker 2: hills that were down below zo Row this morning, and
- 4:01Speaker 2: we're not gonna warm up above freezing. We're gonna go
- 4:03Speaker 2: for temperatures the EF for twenty today, but we've got
- 4:05Speaker 2: mostly sunny sky, so it's a deceptive cold. You look outside,
- 4:09Speaker 2: you go, it can't be bad out there, and you
- 4:10Speaker 2: step outside and you go, it's a bad out.
- 4:12Speaker 5: It's bad out there. So maybe you can.
- 4:15Speaker 4: Help me understand something here. And in the words of
- 4:17Speaker 4: my brother what he was from the beat, make it
- 4:19Speaker 4: make sense. Okay.
- 4:21Speaker 5: I know that school systems, you.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Know, Brian, want to do the right thing in cold
- 4:25Speaker 4: weather mornings. I get that. But some in the area,
- 4:27Speaker 4: some in our listening area, opted to go with a
- 4:31Speaker 4: two hour delay this morning, not because it's snow, we
- 4:33Speaker 4: don't have anything like that, but simply based on low temperatures,
- 4:36Speaker 4: And like, I get that, but in most cases, does
- 4:40Speaker 4: two hours really make that big of a difference. I mean,
- 4:42Speaker 4: when a lot of kids went to the bus stop
- 4:46Speaker 4: on whom my kid and kids don't ride the bus anymore,
- 4:48Speaker 4: we at least they don't where I live in Putnam County,
- 4:51Speaker 4: they seven o'clock or so.
- 4:53Speaker 5: This morning.
- 4:54Speaker 4: When I got into the building, it was like twelve
- 4:56Speaker 4: degrees okay, So right now, it is.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Fourteen degrees right exactly.
- 5:02Speaker 4: So now from a two hour delay standpoint, and again
- 5:05Speaker 4: I know not all areas you know had them, and
- 5:07Speaker 4: I get that nod ever, but someone are listening there
- 5:09Speaker 4: you did, so right now it's nine to twelve, which
- 5:12Speaker 4: is the same as being seven twelve.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Okay.
- 5:14Speaker 4: For those county school systems that did go on a
- 5:16Speaker 4: two hour delay, it warmed up a grand total of
- 5:19Speaker 4: two degrees.
- 5:20Speaker 5: It doesn't make any difference on.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Cold weather mornings if you're delaying two hours because of
- 5:25Speaker 2: the cold, it makes zero sense. In the old days,
- 5:28Speaker 2: it was the excuse was we got to get all
- 5:31Speaker 2: the buses warmed up, and we want to make sure
- 5:33Speaker 2: they're warm so that way when the kids get on
- 5:35Speaker 2: they're not freezing to death. That's not the case anymore.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I mean, listen, the heaters are working in a heartbeat.
- 5:41Speaker 2: It's not a big deal. But there is no difference
- 5:44Speaker 2: because once you once we get past around eight thirty
- 5:48Speaker 2: in the morning, then the temperatures start to come up.
- 5:51Speaker 2: But the only thing that you have that's benefiting you
- 5:54Speaker 2: is the sunshine, and that's if it's sunny. So you know,
- 5:57Speaker 2: if you had clouds and it's still a cold weather
- 5:59Speaker 2: day that you're delaying more.
- 6:01Speaker 5: It makes zeerra sense.
- 6:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean yeah, and again not there were just
- 6:05Speaker 4: a few, you know, but I saw going across the
- 6:07Speaker 4: screen this morning that did op for a two or
- 6:08Speaker 4: three hour delay. And I've never quite now if the
- 6:11Speaker 4: roads are icy whatever, I understand, but I mean there
- 6:13Speaker 4: could be there's done maybe some icy spots out there
- 6:15Speaker 4: this morning, because that's gonna happen, but nothing there the snow,
- 6:18Speaker 4: and we're going to talk about that because that's what
- 6:20Speaker 4: everybody wants to talk about coming up a little bit
- 6:22Speaker 4: later on.
- 6:22Speaker 5: I just I guess when I saw that.
- 6:24Speaker 4: There that some areas were delaying school because of cold
- 6:28Speaker 4: and it warmed up a grand total of two degrees,
- 6:31Speaker 4: you know, I just I just didn't quite understand. All right,
- 6:34Speaker 4: So everybody's talking about this weekend, and particularly I guess
- 6:39Speaker 4: Saturday it's gonna be Snowmageddon or not. And I know
- 6:46Speaker 4: it's well in advanced and you know, you can't put
- 6:49Speaker 4: a number on it at this point. Some people do
- 6:51Speaker 4: and it'll be changed, but overall, and again we're days away.
- 6:55Speaker 4: What are we looking at this week?
- 6:56Speaker 2: Uh, let me start by saying this there will be
- 6:59Speaker 2: a sharp off north of US. So you listen the
- 7:05Speaker 2: range right now. So let me explain all the forecast models.
- 7:08Speaker 2: The American forecast model is sometimes a joke. It's just
- 7:12Speaker 2: called the GFS. It's a global forecasting system, but it's
- 7:15Speaker 2: American model. It has a bias on southern streamstorm systems
- 7:20Speaker 2: in the winter, and that bias is it sends them
- 7:23Speaker 2: way too far south. Now, we know that over time
- 7:27Speaker 2: that it will correct to the north, but you have
- 7:30Speaker 2: to know about what time you about when you stop
- 7:33Speaker 2: looking at it correcting to the north, because it also overcorrects.
- 7:37Speaker 4: So when you've done it, as long as you and
- 7:39Speaker 4: others have right, you kind of get that, Okay, it's
- 7:41Speaker 4: not you know, it's not accurate at this point. It
- 7:44Speaker 4: will be accurate in forty eight hours or whatever the case.
- 7:46Speaker 6: Make right.
- 7:47Speaker 2: It's caught it and it's it gives a general idea
- 7:50Speaker 2: of what's going to happen. But the detail you if
- 7:52Speaker 2: you looked at the details yesterday and you looked at
- 7:55Speaker 2: them right now, they're wildly different. But what we have
- 7:59Speaker 2: seen in the last twenty four hours is now forecast
- 8:02Speaker 2: models starting to move everything to the north, which for
- 8:05Speaker 2: US means we get better snow chances. But boy, let
- 8:08Speaker 2: me tell you something. Where that freezing rain snow line
- 8:12Speaker 2: is going to be where the Arctic boundary is going
- 8:14Speaker 2: to set up, which could be in far southern West Virginia,
- 8:17Speaker 2: it could be down in Virginia, most likely in Virginia.
- 8:19Speaker 2: There's going to be catastrophic, you know, a situation that's
- 8:23Speaker 2: going to be developing because of significant.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Ice ice ice, more southern snow down.
- 8:28Speaker 5: There, right and most and right now.
- 8:31Speaker 2: You know that could even be further south into parts
- 8:33Speaker 2: of North Carolina, southern Tennessee, northern Georgia, northern Alabama.
- 8:37Speaker 5: But let me tell you something.
- 8:38Speaker 2: It is going to be a catastrophic ice storm where
- 8:41Speaker 2: it sets.
- 8:42Speaker 7: Up where it sets up, which is not us, not us,
- 8:44Speaker 7: And that's that's a good part. Could we see a
- 8:46Speaker 7: little sleet or maybe if here's a rain slip into
- 8:48Speaker 7: maybe McDowell, McDowell County and stuff down there, maybe, But
- 8:53Speaker 7: for us, we're going to be on the snow side
- 8:55Speaker 7: of it, and we could have we could see in
- 8:57Speaker 7: southern West Virginia and the mountains of West Virginia significant snow.
- 9:01Speaker 7: But as far as the kanav Valley is concerned. Right now,
- 9:04Speaker 7: the average the national blend of models. It's called the MBM.
- 9:08Speaker 2: So that's where the National Weather Service has a forecast
- 9:11Speaker 2: model where it takes all the models and averages them
- 9:14Speaker 2: together and gives and is understands the forecast model bias
- 9:20Speaker 2: it has. Right now, it's getting about six inches of
- 9:22Speaker 2: snow Saturday into Sunday, and Saturday night is when it
- 9:26Speaker 2: will be going gang Bucks gangbusters. But as this continues
- 9:31Speaker 2: to trend further north, our snow totals could increase. Forecast
- 9:35Speaker 2: models yesterday we're looking at anywhere from six all the
- 9:39Speaker 2: way up to I'm not even getting eighteen inches of
- 9:42Speaker 2: snow for the Charleston area. Now that's a wide range.
- 9:47Speaker 2: We know that the higher end is not where we look.
- 9:49Speaker 2: We look at what is the middle to lower end
- 9:52Speaker 2: of that to start, And right now the American model
- 9:57Speaker 2: is starting slowly to come in line with the European model,
- 10:00Speaker 2: which is a superior model as far as snow is concerned.
- 10:03Speaker 2: And when you look at the Canadian model as well
- 10:06Speaker 2: as many other forecast models that look at the long
- 10:09Speaker 2: range of what we call the ensembles, they actually have
- 10:12Speaker 2: a whole different bunch of versions of the forecast model
- 10:15Speaker 2: that all mix together and they're called the ensembles. So
- 10:18Speaker 2: there's the European model actually has about twenty so mid
- 10:22Speaker 2: different runs that it does simultaneously, and then it blends
- 10:26Speaker 2: all those together and gives us a general idea of
- 10:29Speaker 2: what's happening. And it looks like, listen, we got snow
- 10:31Speaker 2: coming and it's going to be significant. But the critical
- 10:35Speaker 2: part about this is not just the snow that we
- 10:37Speaker 2: get Saturday Sunday, but it's a fact that all next
- 10:40Speaker 2: week we barely have an opportunity to get above freezing.
- 10:45Speaker 2: And then there's a couple of waves of snow that
- 10:47Speaker 2: will be possible maybe Tuesday and then maybe late next
- 10:51Speaker 2: week again. So what we're doing is laguering up, and
- 10:55Speaker 2: then it takes us all the way to the end
- 10:57Speaker 2: of January, which could be you know, quite the cold
- 11:00Speaker 2: time period where we have temperatures that barely get above
- 11:03Speaker 2: freezing and we're gona have a lot of low twenties
- 11:05Speaker 2: for highs.
- 11:06Speaker 5: Nine to eighteen. We're talking to b d.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Roaldis's Brian Hughes the Dave Alan Show on five eighty
- 11:10Speaker 4: line brought to you a part by Morgan Morgan If
- 11:11Speaker 4: you're injured higher Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm.
- 11:14Speaker 4: All right, now, it's Tuesday now, and you said this
- 11:16Speaker 4: time twenty four hours ago it was vastly different from
- 11:19Speaker 4: what we're going to be looking at. Could be vastly
- 11:22Speaker 4: different tomorrow. Right by what Thursday, That's when we'll start
- 11:27Speaker 4: getting a better feel of Okay, this is going to happen,
- 11:31Speaker 4: and this is how much is it?
- 11:32Speaker 5: Generally forty eight hours out.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Forty eight hours is when you can say this is
- 11:35Speaker 2: about what we're gonna have. Yeah, And then and then
- 11:38Speaker 2: as you get closer to then you look at the
- 11:40Speaker 2: fine tune details, that's when people get upset. Well, they
- 11:42Speaker 2: get all listen. I said on Facebook number of times yesterday. Listen, folks,
- 11:48Speaker 2: this is not the forecast and it will change, but
- 11:50Speaker 2: please understand this is a mass Listen.
- 11:52Speaker 6: This is this goes.
- 11:53Speaker 2: My dad is going to have on Saturday in Loveock, Texas,
- 11:57Speaker 2: a high twenty two degrees that's gonna beat the record
- 12:01Speaker 2: of twenty nine degrees by seven degrees.
- 12:04Speaker 6: That they're going to beat the record.
- 12:05Speaker 2: And what we have, you know, the forecast model data
- 12:09Speaker 2: is showing that we have from literally west Texas all
- 12:12Speaker 2: the way back up here into the Northeast, across the
- 12:14Speaker 2: mid Atlantic here area, and then back up into the Northeast.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Record cold records upon records will be falling for cold temperatures.
- 12:24Speaker 2: And that doesn't even account for you know, that doesn't
- 12:27Speaker 2: count for the fact that there's also going to be
- 12:28Speaker 2: snow from West Texas all the way back up here
- 12:31Speaker 2: into into the Northeast. So it's a multi pronged system
- 12:35Speaker 2: with record cold, wind, ice and heavy heavy.
- 12:39Speaker 5: And again we're not talking.
- 12:41Speaker 4: Everybody calmed down, We're not We're not talking about Cystonville
- 12:43Speaker 4: right now.
- 12:44Speaker 6: Right, so we're talking.
- 12:45Speaker 4: We're talking about all right, because that's what that's what
- 12:48Speaker 4: you know, you guys I think run into sometimes because
- 12:50Speaker 4: I follow you know, you and others on social media, well,
- 12:53Speaker 4: you know, and it's got to drive you crazy, you
- 12:55Speaker 4: know of otherwise nice people saying well what about that?
- 12:59Speaker 5: What about what about this? Holler? What about this? And
- 13:01Speaker 5: what about that?
- 13:02Speaker 4: And we saw last week with the system that we
- 13:04Speaker 4: had here early last week, basically nothing in Charleston, ten
- 13:08Speaker 4: miles up the road. It was that we're shutting down
- 13:11Speaker 4: the interstate, right you.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Know, listen, Brent Webster, who takes care of all the
- 13:16Speaker 2: city streets.
- 13:16Speaker 5: He's in charge of it all.
- 13:18Speaker 2: I text him and the mayor and I said, hey,
- 13:20Speaker 2: this snow squall is produced, has produced two to five
- 13:24Speaker 2: inches of snow in one hour. I said, you got
- 13:27Speaker 2: to be you know, on the lookout, heads up. Now
- 13:30Speaker 2: it got here and guess what gone. I mean, we
- 13:33Speaker 2: just barely had a dusting. But you know, it's one
- 13:35Speaker 2: of those things you've always got to be prepared for
- 13:38Speaker 2: the next thing. And it could be the minutest detail
- 13:41Speaker 2: that could change the snow. Listen, you could get a
- 13:44Speaker 2: river effects snow that is going to lay down three
- 13:47Speaker 2: to four inches of snow in the upper parts of
- 13:49Speaker 2: the Canal Valley and you're gonna have nothing everywhere else, right.
- 13:52Speaker 4: I mean, this is this is what makes I think
- 13:54Speaker 4: weather forecasting kind of interesting for what you folks do
- 13:58Speaker 4: in this part of the world, because it it can
- 14:00Speaker 4: be vastly different, even within a county, it can be
- 14:04Speaker 4: vastly different. What you know, what as Systemville gets is
- 14:08Speaker 4: not what Tornado gets, you know all the time, right,
- 14:11Speaker 4: And that's that's what makes it, I think kind of interesting.
- 14:14Speaker 2: And for those people who get so upset about well,
- 14:17Speaker 2: I didn't get what you said we're gonna get. Yeah,
- 14:18Speaker 2: I'm but guess what your neighbor about half a county
- 14:21Speaker 2: over got exactly what we said. Ye, there are differences
- 14:24Speaker 2: we can't. If we could forecast down to your city block,
- 14:28Speaker 2: I would be I would not be sitting here today.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I'd be making all kinds of money.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Well, and these people that say, you know, you know,
- 14:34Speaker 4: you've heard all the jokes, you know, weather forecasters the
- 14:36Speaker 4: only job where you can get paid for being right
- 14:38Speaker 4: fifty percent of the time. That is so far from
- 14:40Speaker 4: the truth.
- 14:41Speaker 5: Our numbers now are over ninety percent. Well, accuracy's well.
- 14:45Speaker 4: Over, yes, well over ninety percent.
- 14:47Speaker 2: And just so you know, back about twenty years ago,
- 14:51Speaker 2: I was actually I had my five day forecast and
- 14:54Speaker 2: I was looking at eighty three percent accuracy.
- 14:57Speaker 5: And that was about twenty years ago. Now we're up
- 15:00Speaker 5: plus all right.
- 15:01Speaker 4: Well again, so how much snow we getting when we
- 15:03Speaker 4: get Sorry, I'm sorry, I just had to throw it
- 15:05Speaker 4: right here.
- 15:05Speaker 2: So I'll say, right now, right now, if we were
- 15:08Speaker 2: looking at everything right now, we're going to get about
- 15:10Speaker 2: six inches of snow Saturday into Sunday. But there will
- 15:14Speaker 2: be changes and it could go down.
- 15:16Speaker 6: It could go up.
- 15:17Speaker 5: If it does go up, it could go up by
- 15:18Speaker 5: a chunk.
- 15:19Speaker 4: Okay, And and it all depends on the timing too
- 15:22Speaker 4: as well, because we at this point it's way too
- 15:24Speaker 4: early to say, Okay, it's going to hit at two
- 15:26Speaker 4: o'clock Saturday afternoon. It could be a little bit before then,
- 15:28Speaker 4: it could be a little bit after that. And I
- 15:30Speaker 4: say that because I know a lot of people have
- 15:32Speaker 4: got their eyes on the Hunting and Fishing Show this.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Weekend, right exactly, and listen, Friday, go to the Hunting
- 15:37Speaker 2: Fishers Saturday, you can go, but know that maybe Sunday
- 15:40Speaker 2: is probably probably not going to be the best day.
- 15:42Speaker 2: But I can tell you this, the temperature profile for
- 15:46Speaker 2: the entire region here, most of West Virginia is snow
- 15:50Speaker 2: from the bottom of the atmosphere to the top of
- 15:52Speaker 2: the atmosphere. And it's going to be so cold, and
- 15:54Speaker 2: we're gonna have snow ratios that are going to be
- 15:55Speaker 2: incredibly high. It's going to be a very fluffy, fine
- 15:59Speaker 2: snow that's going to be around, and it's gonna be fun.
- 16:01Speaker 5: It's gonna be the one stuff.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Listen, thirty years ago, this earlier this month, we had
- 16:08Speaker 2: a huge snowstorm. And this September there are gonna be
- 16:12Speaker 2: all kinds of people that are turning thirty years old.
- 16:15Speaker 5: And I can tell you this Southern.
- 16:17Speaker 2: West Virginia, Virginia in thirty years in October, there will
- 16:21Speaker 2: be a whole bunch of kids at the Heaven Birthdays.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Well, they said we need to get more people in
- 16:27Speaker 4: West Virginia. Apparently you just need a few snowstorms to
- 16:29Speaker 4: make it happen.
- 16:29Speaker 2: That's what we That's why the population has decline, not
- 16:32Speaker 2: enough snowstorms.

- 19:32Speaker 5: single Hoosier fan I know at some point, either late
- 19:35Speaker 5: last night or there were a few who waited to
- 19:38Speaker 5: get me this morning, knowing that my rooster crows at
- 19:40Speaker 5: oh four hundred. But everybody from first wife to Nie
- 19:45Speaker 5: to my IP attorney, all the IU people hollering at
- 19:48Speaker 5: me today.
- 19:49Speaker 4: So as somebody who is a native Hoosier, Yeah, we
- 19:52Speaker 4: learned that on the show yesterday. From Indiana is Indiana football.
- 19:56Speaker 4: Because you have other universities, I mean in West Virginia.
- 19:58Speaker 4: You know, we have WVU, we have Marshall, and we
- 20:00Speaker 4: have some great MEC schools. But most people, and I'm
- 20:04Speaker 4: speaking as a son of Marshall, would say that overall
- 20:06Speaker 4: West Virginia has the biggest overall fan base in West Virginia.
- 20:10Speaker 4: I would, I would, I would concede that is Indiana
- 20:15Speaker 4: as far as sports go, like the official university as
- 20:20Speaker 4: far as sports go in the state of Indiana, because
- 20:21Speaker 4: you do have others. A ball state, you got, I
- 20:23Speaker 4: mean it is today, if it's football, it's Notre Dame. Okay,
- 20:26Speaker 4: I mean, if if there is that that place I
- 20:28Speaker 4: forgot about. Note frankly, if and you know, full disclosure,
- 20:32Speaker 4: my master's degree is from Notre Dame. If if they
- 20:35Speaker 4: put a bowl game on Mars and they they invited,
- 20:40Speaker 4: like Michigan and Notre Dame, it would sell out in
- 20:43Speaker 4: fifteen minutes. Okay, That's that's how big those sorts of
- 20:47Speaker 4: schools are. IU is still, if not number one, a
- 20:52Speaker 4: close number two to Butler in basketball. But this is
- 20:57Speaker 4: this is remarkable for IU. Most of the time, IU is.
- 21:01Speaker 5: Fourth in college football in Indiana, behind Notre Dame, Purdue,
- 21:06Speaker 5: and Ball State. Okay, so there's a lot of celebrating
- 21:09Speaker 5: going on. Yeah, this is extraordinary. Couches are burning all
- 21:11Speaker 5: over Bloomington.
- 21:12Speaker 2: You know.
- 21:12Speaker 4: I read an interesting article over the weekend in the
- 21:14Speaker 4: Wall Street Journal about John Mellencamp. Mellencamp is a big
- 21:18Speaker 4: IU fan. Of course, he's from Bloomington and Seymour.
- 21:21Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, he told. That's right, You're right about that,
- 21:24Speaker 5: he told.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Actually, they told the story about, man, I'm a huge
- 21:27Speaker 4: John Mellencamp fan, about when he was, like I guess,
- 21:31Speaker 4: a young man his brother and attended Indiana University and
- 21:35Speaker 4: they went to a lot of games. Well, now you know,
- 21:38Speaker 4: Mellencamp's got more money than you know what.
- 21:40Speaker 5: To do with.
- 21:41Speaker 4: So they actually at the stadium, he has a wood
- 21:45Speaker 4: shed built somewhere and he has that because he can
- 21:49Speaker 4: go in and smoke, yes, because he's a five packa
- 21:51Speaker 4: day smoker and has said he's never going to stop
- 21:54Speaker 4: smoking whatever. And he goes into this shed at the stadium.
- 21:58Speaker 4: What's the name of the stadium? Where are you play?
- 22:00Speaker 5: Memorial State?
- 22:00Speaker 4: Okay, didn't have a corporate name in Okay, you will,
- 22:03Speaker 4: but but he goes. But actually he donated like over
- 22:05Speaker 4: a million dollars for a practice facility there, and they
- 22:08Speaker 4: were interviewing some of the players and they were saying,
- 22:11Speaker 4: what do you think about John Mellencamp.
- 22:12Speaker 5: They said, oh, the guy the practice facility is named after.
- 22:14Speaker 4: They had no idea who John Mellencamp was, but I
- 22:17Speaker 4: just thought that was kind of interesting.
- 22:18Speaker 5: So he's a pretty happy guy. Maybe he smokes six
- 22:20Speaker 5: packs y And one of one of John's bits, his
- 22:23Speaker 5: incognito bit, is he pretends to be his cousin Roscoe,
- 22:26Speaker 5: and so I don't ever go to the games. It's
- 22:29Speaker 5: it's Roscoe who's always at the IU games. And it's funny.
- 22:31Speaker 5: He looks and sounds exactly like John. But they do
- 22:36Speaker 5: a good job of leaving John alone. Say what you
- 22:40Speaker 5: want about. One of the things about who's your hospitality
- 22:44Speaker 5: is if if you're famous, they kind of just give you.
- 22:47Speaker 5: West Virginians are good at this too, Like when Jennifer
- 22:49Speaker 5: Garner comes back to town. I'll see it. I'll see it.
- 22:52Speaker 5: Ellen's all the time, and folks will just give it.
- 22:55Speaker 5: Hey good to see it, and that's it. Folks are
- 22:58Speaker 5: good about that, you know.

- 23:24Speaker 4: Big shout out to my wife, who's who sent some today.
- 23:28Speaker 4: She's all into helping out those in need. Rob But
- 23:30Speaker 4: she's been married to me for thirty three years, so
- 23:32Speaker 4: we'll talk about giving to the needs. So she already
- 23:35Speaker 4: is all about helping the needy. But she's also a
- 23:37Speaker 4: competitive shopper, yes, and she took the holiday off yesterday
- 23:41Speaker 4: to do some other things. And you just happened to
- 23:43Speaker 4: be the beneficiary of some socks yesterday.
- 23:45Speaker 5: I am glad to be the middleman in that transaction.
- 23:50Speaker 5: I was looking over some recent numbers, and one in
- 23:53Speaker 5: seven folks nationwide is dealing with poverty according to the
- 23:58Speaker 5: Supplemental Poverty measurements. That's that's the bottom line, that's income,
- 24:02Speaker 5: that's taxes, that's that's the cost of actually living. That
- 24:05Speaker 5: number is significantly higher here in West Virginia, we're closer
- 24:09Speaker 5: to one in three. That means, look to your left,
- 24:12Speaker 5: look to your right. One of you is in a
- 24:16Speaker 5: pretty bad financial situation. And so the most requested item
- 24:20Speaker 5: shelters service providers is socks. It's it's a little thing
- 24:24Speaker 5: we can do. It's one thing we can laser focus.
- 24:27Speaker 5: On Thursday, from seven in the morning till six in
- 24:29Speaker 5: the evening, you loop through our parking lot, You stay
- 24:31Speaker 5: in your warm vehicle, You hand us those brand new
- 24:33Speaker 5: socks or a check or cash donation for Union Mission,
- 24:36Speaker 5: and you get to go on your way and you
- 24:38Speaker 5: get the nice, warm feeling of helping our friends and neighbors.
- 24:41Speaker 5: Union Mission is going to do all the work.
- 24:43Speaker 4: We're talking to Rob Reel from a ninety six one
- 24:45Speaker 4: kwus about our sock drop. It is happening this coming
- 24:48Speaker 4: Thursday on our parking lots seven am till six pm.
- 24:50Speaker 4: And again, there's so many places that you can pick
- 24:52Speaker 4: up a few packs of socks, you know, your Allie's
- 24:55Speaker 4: or your Big Lots, Dollar General or whatever the case
- 24:59Speaker 4: may be. And they're not that expensive.
- 25:01Speaker 5: I mean I've easily spotted twelve pair for ten bucks,
- 25:05Speaker 5: so less than a dollar a pair. I have a
- 25:08Speaker 5: sizeable stash already waiting at the real estate to be
- 25:10Speaker 5: brought in on Thursday. Your lovely bride has contributed to
- 25:15Speaker 5: that as well, so we'll get off to a good start.
- 25:18Speaker 5: But I would like to see our third annual Drop
- 25:21Speaker 5: your Socks be our biggest one yet.
- 25:23Speaker 4: And last year, if I remember correctly, it was pretty cold.
- 25:26Speaker 4: I think we had some snow on the ground. It
- 25:28Speaker 4: is going to be a little little on the cool
- 25:30Speaker 4: side on Thursday. But everybody's all jacked up about a
- 25:33Speaker 4: snowstorm this weekend one way or the other. It's not
- 25:36Speaker 4: happening Thursday. We do know that for a fact.
- 25:39Speaker 5: Yes, I think this actually works out well for folks
- 25:41Speaker 5: who want to participate, because you already know you need
- 25:44Speaker 5: to go to the store. You need to make an
- 25:45Speaker 5: extra run, get that French toast kit as I like
- 25:48Speaker 5: to call it, the bread, the milk, the eggs. While
- 25:50Speaker 5: you're there, whether it's the bougie this or the Gucci
- 25:53Speaker 5: that go down, go down the aisle where you can
- 25:55Speaker 5: pick up some socks. Add that to just leave them
- 25:58Speaker 5: in the car, leave them in the bag in the car,
- 26:00Speaker 5: and you can come see us on Thursday, hand them
- 26:02Speaker 5: to us, be on your way, and then when you
- 26:04Speaker 5: hunker down for the snowstorm, know that there are friends
- 26:08Speaker 5: and neighbors in need who will be warm. And maybe
- 26:11Speaker 5: I don't think I don't I don't think I'm overstating
- 26:13Speaker 5: there are people who may survive a snowstorm like Brian
- 26:17Speaker 5: was just talking about, because we were able to provide
- 26:20Speaker 5: this sort of assistance.
- 26:21Speaker 4: And again, one of the questions that we get is
- 26:23Speaker 4: people will say why socks? And I mean why not
- 26:28Speaker 4: jackets or gloves? And look, if you want to drop those,
- 26:31Speaker 4: we'll take those two. But what we want what we
- 26:32Speaker 4: want to focus on socks? Why is it socks? Two reasons.
- 26:35Speaker 5: One so that we can give you a thing, a
- 26:37Speaker 5: singular thing to focus on. We're all busy people. We
- 26:40Speaker 5: have lots of mind traffic. I mean just when something
- 26:43Speaker 5: is out of the ordinary, like dealing with school delays,
- 26:45Speaker 5: think about how much that throws your day off. So
- 26:48Speaker 5: I want to give you just one thing to focus
- 26:50Speaker 5: on so that you don't have to, oh, well do
- 26:52Speaker 5: I need to worry about?
- 26:54Speaker 1: Uh?
- 26:55Speaker 5: You know what can I bring the coats and hats?
- 26:56Speaker 5: What do they need? We need socks. Everybody needs socks.
- 27:00Speaker 5: And the other is that you don't have to worry
- 27:02Speaker 5: about size, you don't have to worry about color. It's
- 27:05Speaker 5: it's as simple as it can be for you to
- 27:07Speaker 5: participate with socks.
- 27:10Speaker 4: Indeed, it's a seven handle six PM on our parking,
- 27:12Speaker 4: not eleven eleven for ginga tretas Charleston. And again, don't
- 27:15Speaker 4: even have to get out of your car, because I
- 27:17Speaker 4: know you guys are going to be out there bright
- 27:18Speaker 4: and early in between doing your morning show. Yes, you're
- 27:21Speaker 4: gonna get your laps in that day for sure, running
- 27:23Speaker 4: up and down whatever.
- 27:24Speaker 5: It won't be one hundred and seventy two miles to Morgantown,
- 27:26Speaker 5: but it's gonna feel like it, with the back and
- 27:28Speaker 5: forth to the to the Walker studio.
- 27:30Speaker 4: For what idiot decided to walk to Morgantown.
- 27:33Speaker 9: I don't know. He's a nice boy, but he's about
- 27:35Speaker 9: as sharp as a bowling ball.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Indeed.
- 27:37Speaker 4: But we have all we have some help out there
- 27:40Speaker 4: for you. Again, all of our stations are involving to
- 27:43Speaker 4: see the folks from v. One hundred and chs. And
- 27:45Speaker 4: we'll bring the sales weasels in and off of staff
- 27:48Speaker 4: the beat.
- 27:49Speaker 5: Well, well, well we'll all be out there. We'll all
- 27:52Speaker 5: be out there. Yes, please make sure if if you
- 27:54Speaker 5: made any sort of gentleman's wager with one Woody Woods,
- 27:57Speaker 5: he would like his money please for last night game.
- 28:00Speaker 5: He was on about that already. He's going to be
- 28:02Speaker 5: insufferable today. I mean that in the best way, the
- 28:04Speaker 5: best possible. With the way Indiana sports has gone with
- 28:07Speaker 5: people getting hurt over the past year, it's about time
- 28:10Speaker 5: Hoosiers had to win, and they got a big one
- 28:12Speaker 5: last night. But even the folks from Union Mission, so
- 28:16Speaker 5: Jason and Brian and Mighty Joe as I like to
- 28:19Speaker 5: call him, are always out there with us. They're really
- 28:22Speaker 5: doing the heavy lifting literally and figuratively, with gathering up
- 28:26Speaker 5: the socks and sorting and taking them back and then
- 28:28Speaker 5: doing the distributing. They're really doing all the work. We're
- 28:31Speaker 5: just big mouthpieces in this.
- 28:32Speaker 4: And our listeners, I say this all the time, rob
- 28:34Speaker 4: Our listeners are the greatest listeners in the world. They
- 28:38Speaker 4: come through, whether it's this, whether it's Turkey Drop, whether
- 28:42Speaker 4: it's the snack Drop that we organized, whether it's your
- 28:45Speaker 4: walk to Morgantown for WVU Children's I mean, our listeners
- 28:49Speaker 4: always come through for us.
- 28:51Speaker 5: It was almost exactly ten years ago when I left
- 28:55Speaker 5: Charleston the first time and it made an impression on me.
- 28:59Speaker 5: Then the West Virginians take care of West Virginians. So
- 29:02Speaker 5: when I had the opportunity to come back three years ago,
- 29:05Speaker 5: that was one of the reasons that topped my list
- 29:08Speaker 5: that I wanted to be here because I know we
- 29:11Speaker 5: will reach out and take care of our friends and neighbors.
- 29:15Speaker 4: Indeed, indeed, and it's gonna be a busy week because
- 29:18Speaker 4: we're over at the Hunting and Fishing Show, you know,
- 29:21Speaker 4: this weekend. That's I'll have more of that coming up
- 29:23Speaker 4: a little bit later on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at
- 29:25Speaker 4: the Contal Seeming Conventions.
- 29:26Speaker 5: And we've got a concert going on too, Jason Alden
- 29:29Speaker 5: is on Saturday night. The Winter Jam is Friday night,
- 29:31Speaker 5: so the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center is going to
- 29:35Speaker 5: be packed the whole weekend. Of course, the Elvis of
- 29:37Speaker 5: the Outdoors himself, Chris Lawrence. He's the big rock star
- 29:40Speaker 5: this weekend.
- 29:41Speaker 4: I they'll we're doing his West Virginia Outdoor Show live
- 29:43Speaker 4: from there Saturday morning, as he traditionally does. Yep, I
- 29:46Speaker 4: get to be a show runner. Yes, that's what my
- 29:49Speaker 4: job is with Chris is hey, go go, go and
- 29:51Speaker 4: get so and so. And you know, and I love
- 29:53Speaker 4: Chris because and I'll say, well, who am I looking for?
- 29:55Speaker 5: Oh he's the guy in the camo. Oh okay, I
- 29:57Speaker 5: got it. He's a fella with the orange hat. Yeah,
- 30:00Speaker 5: got it. So, yeah, you'll be the the van of
- 30:03Speaker 5: White the Barker's Beauties that Carol Merrill. If one is
- 30:06Speaker 5: of a certain age. So and I'll be hanging out too.
- 30:11Speaker 5: But folks aren't coming to the Hunting and Fishing show
- 30:13Speaker 5: to see me. They are coming to seecres Low. All right.
- 30:15Speaker 4: We had a text here when somebody ask it or
- 30:17Speaker 4: everybody need thought doing these type of drops for the winter,
- 30:19Speaker 4: maybe over a couple of months in summer, a couple
- 30:22Speaker 4: of weekends to have a greater supply. I mean, maybe
- 30:24Speaker 4: get them ahead of time. I mean, the thing about it,
- 30:25Speaker 4: and I appreciate the text, Rob, But to think about
- 30:27Speaker 4: it is we do so much here. I don't want
- 30:30Speaker 4: to really cross the sword, so to speak. Yes, because
- 30:32Speaker 4: we you know, we have our times that we do
- 30:35Speaker 4: certain things, and and we don't want to ask too
- 30:37Speaker 4: much of our listeners either, because they are the greatest
- 30:39Speaker 4: listeners in the world. They always come through for us.
- 30:41Speaker 4: But it's a good it's a good idea in theory.
- 30:43Speaker 4: But I mean during summer we're collecting at beginning of somewhere,
- 30:46Speaker 4: collecting snacks. Ye, we are of course with you know,
- 30:49Speaker 4: we have the backpack attack that we do on the
- 30:52Speaker 4: beat and all these other things too, So.
- 30:54Speaker 5: We have we have four days a year where we
- 30:57Speaker 5: are laser focused on a particular thing. It's socks in January,
- 31:01Speaker 5: it's snacks in June, it's backpacks at the beginning of
- 31:04Speaker 5: school in August, and it's turkeys in November. And it's
- 31:08Speaker 5: not that those things aren't needed year round, you're the
- 31:10Speaker 5: texture is right, It's that we can hit the hardest
- 31:14Speaker 5: at the time of greatest need for those particular things.
- 31:18Speaker 5: So we that's what we focus on in those moments.
- 31:21Speaker 5: And I wouldn't I wouldn't want to spend our time
- 31:25Speaker 5: and effort in June also collecting socks, knowing that that
- 31:30Speaker 5: could be at the expense of more snacks, if that
- 31:32Speaker 5: makes sense.
- 31:33Speaker 4: I understood and understood text said, what's behind door number three?
- 31:36Speaker 4: This is a texture.
- 31:37Speaker 5: Beoh, it is a real Monty Hall problem. So all right.

- 32:19Speaker 5: I laugh because I spent a couple of years in

- 36:14Speaker 4: You're officially filing I mean the you know you now

- 36:22Speaker 4: more than that coming up a little bit later on.
- 36:23Speaker 5: But I want to talk.
- 36:24Speaker 4: About your current roles current as a county commissioner. I
- 36:27Speaker 4: want to talk about getting water to the people.
- 36:29Speaker 9: Now.
- 36:30Speaker 4: You have more than one project up and running now.
- 36:33Speaker 6: Right, oh, absolutely.
- 36:34Speaker 12: You know. This is something that when I came in
- 36:36Speaker 12: in twenty twenty one as county commissioner five years ago,
- 36:38Speaker 12: I took a roll in because I noticed how there
- 36:41Speaker 12: were areas that needed clean, potable water. They were whether
- 36:46Speaker 12: it was a well that they were getting from their
- 36:48Speaker 12: own property, maybe it was a tank a bladder that
- 36:52Speaker 12: they would have to fill up from Westerngin American water.
- 36:54Speaker 12: Now remember they're paying West Virginia American water prices, but
- 36:59Speaker 12: they have to go and fill up a bladder just
- 37:01Speaker 12: so they can have water at their house. I thought
- 37:03Speaker 12: that was unacceptable, and so we have made a huge
- 37:06Speaker 12: push within the last five years with our Regional Development
- 37:09Speaker 12: Authority that I am a board member of and me
- 37:11Speaker 12: as a County commissioner, getting clean potable water delivered to
- 37:15Speaker 12: citizens in Kannall County. And we've had tremendous success. I mean,
- 37:18Speaker 12: let's talk about Creswood right in the Mink Shoals area
- 37:21Speaker 12: where we had a during the County Commission meeting when
- 37:25Speaker 12: we were talking about giving him money. One of the
- 37:27Speaker 12: residents came and was crying because she has been wanting
- 37:30Speaker 12: water for so long. That project finished, Relation Road out
- 37:33Speaker 12: near Cross Lanes, got that project finished.
- 37:36Speaker 6: Pink Creek. You remember pant Creek.
- 37:38Speaker 12: Oh yeah, when there was a huge chemical spill because
- 37:42Speaker 12: a drunk driver and a tractor trailer spilled chemicals into
- 37:45Speaker 12: the Pint Creek area and it contaminated potentially contaminated everyone's wells.
- 37:51Speaker 12: We got them clean potable water that's being delivered to
- 37:54Speaker 12: their house.
- 37:55Speaker 6: Now.
- 37:55Speaker 12: That's what the Kannaal County Commission has done. And we
- 37:58Speaker 12: recognize how important clean water is and we've been making
- 38:00Speaker 12: that push and we're right now working on six active
- 38:05Speaker 12: water projects. That is Leatherwood, Upper Rambling Hills all Caught,
- 38:10Speaker 12: dutch Ridge, Laurel Fork, and another one that I just
- 38:12Speaker 12: added to the list, like not that five is enough, Dave.
- 38:15Speaker 12: Another one that had just added to the list because
- 38:17Speaker 12: I had somebody call me and say, hey, we have
- 38:20Speaker 12: fifteen people out here near Browns Creek on Russell Road.
- 38:23Speaker 12: We would love to have water. We've been wanting it
- 38:24Speaker 12: for a long time. And I said, let me see
- 38:26Speaker 12: what I can do, and immediately within two weeks. This
- 38:28Speaker 12: is holiday season. By the way, none of my staff
- 38:31Speaker 12: I try not to bother them at this point, but
- 38:33Speaker 12: you know, we worked really hard and we're already getting
- 38:36Speaker 12: the engineers.
- 38:36Speaker 6: With Potesta to look into this and getting them water.
- 38:39Speaker 9: Now.
- 38:39Speaker 12: It's going to take time, but these are six active
- 38:41Speaker 12: projects that we're working on. And these just these six,
- 38:44Speaker 12: not the ones we've already completed, but just these six
- 38:47Speaker 12: total forty miles forty miles of pipe that we would
- 38:52Speaker 12: have to put in. Now, we're going to continue to
- 38:54Speaker 12: work on that funding and get these across the line.
- 38:57Speaker 6: But the big one, Dave.
- 38:58Speaker 12: Is Leatherwood is something that we've been working really hard.
- 39:01Speaker 12: So why do you say it's the big one, Well,
- 39:03Speaker 12: that's because there's over one hundred customers, one hundred households,
- 39:06Speaker 12: not customers. I don't like saying customers. What I like
- 39:08Speaker 12: to say is households because sometimes this is a family
- 39:11Speaker 12: of four, maybe it's just an elderly couple. There's two there, right,
- 39:14Speaker 12: Those people count too, But there's one hundred households and
- 39:18Speaker 12: they've been waiting for this water for years and years.
- 39:21Speaker 12: We were able to work with US Senator Shelley Moore Capito.
- 39:23Speaker 12: I want to thank her and her office for getting
- 39:25Speaker 12: federal funding to get this moving forward. We're going to
- 39:29Speaker 12: be across the finish line, but there's going to be
- 39:31Speaker 12: twelve miles of that forty twelve miles of pipe was
- 39:35Speaker 12: going to be laid with the Leatherwood Project. Again, this
- 39:38Speaker 12: is making sure that we here in Kannall County have
- 39:41Speaker 12: clean potable water and getting as many people that clean
- 39:46Speaker 12: potable waters as quickly as possible. That's what this Kannall
- 39:48Speaker 12: County Commission has done. This is what we're doing, and
- 39:51Speaker 12: this is what we're going to continue to do. With
- 39:52Speaker 12: Commission President ben Zelango, Commissioner Tenant, and myself.

- 40:11Speaker 4: I want to talk about fire for a moment. We've
- 40:12Speaker 4: gone from water. Now we're going to go to fire
- 40:14Speaker 4: Systemville Fire and Rescue School.
- 40:16Speaker 12: Well, this is not just water and fire, this is
- 40:18Speaker 12: essential services.
- 40:19Speaker 6: Yeah, rightactly. I mean we talk.
- 40:21Speaker 12: About supporting our first responders and getting them all the
- 40:24Speaker 12: resources they possibly can, and I think the Kenaw County
- 40:27Speaker 12: Commission has a track record of doing that. Well, there's
- 40:29Speaker 12: something that I actually was at the Sistinville Volunteer Fire
- 40:32Speaker 12: Department and talking to their chief and their members, and
- 40:35Speaker 12: one of the things they brought up to me was, Commissioner,
- 40:37Speaker 12: we have our fire school coming up. And I said, well,
- 40:40Speaker 12: tell me a little bit about that. And what I've
- 40:41Speaker 12: learned is that there's not a lot of fire schools
- 40:44Speaker 12: going on in this valley, and these are necessary for promotions.
- 40:49Speaker 12: Let's say you want somebody to be chief one day,
- 40:51Speaker 12: Well you got to have these fire schools by the
- 40:53Speaker 12: State Fire Board and making sure that these people are
- 40:56Speaker 12: qualified and knowledgeable to be able to be in that
- 40:59Speaker 12: role are very important because we have twenty six volunteer
- 41:02Speaker 12: fire departments here in Kannall County, all doing an important
- 41:05Speaker 12: service of making sure that when seconds matter, they're able
- 41:08Speaker 12: to get an engine or a truck out to you,
- 41:11Speaker 12: whether it's a house fire, whether it's a medical emergy,
- 41:13Speaker 12: whatever it might be. And so making sure that they
- 41:15Speaker 12: have this training is extremely important. But Dave, that comes
- 41:18Speaker 12: at a cost, and some of these smaller volunteer fire
- 41:20Speaker 12: departments who are struggling just even paying the electric bills,
- 41:24Speaker 12: are then deciding how are we going to get our
- 41:26Speaker 12: members to be trained from this extra cost. So this
- 41:30Speaker 12: is something that's emergency management. C. W. Sigmund my office
- 41:34Speaker 12: and the Knanall County Commission. We're working with the system
- 41:37Speaker 12: Ville Fire Department and we're working on a project. This
- 41:39Speaker 12: is breaking news. We're working on a project to where
- 41:42Speaker 12: the Kannall County Commission will pay for the schooling of
- 41:46Speaker 12: any Kannall County Fire department here for the Systemville Volunteer
- 41:50Speaker 12: Fire Department.
- 41:51Speaker 4: Okay, that is breaking news. Explain how that's going to work.
- 41:53Speaker 12: Well, I think what we're going to do is a
- 41:54Speaker 12: we want to make sure it's done correctly. You know,
- 41:56Speaker 12: we don't want to just give out money and it's
- 41:58Speaker 12: not going to the right place. So we're going to
- 41:59Speaker 12: high of what we're working on right now, and it's
- 42:01Speaker 12: all temporaries looking at how can we reimburse some of
- 42:06Speaker 12: these agencies. So what we're going to say is, if
- 42:09Speaker 12: you have a volunteer firefighter, a member that wants to
- 42:13Speaker 12: go and take this class, then you as a station,
- 42:16Speaker 12: as an agency, will pay for it if they complete it,
- 42:19Speaker 12: because that's a big gift. We want to make sure
- 42:21Speaker 12: that they're completing the course. If they attend and complete
- 42:24Speaker 12: the course, we will reimburse you that cost. And I
- 42:27Speaker 12: think what we're going to see is we're going to
- 42:29Speaker 12: see more participation. We're going to see more members interested
- 42:33Speaker 12: because that's not money coming out of their pocket. It's
- 42:35Speaker 12: not coming out of the bank account for the fire department.
- 42:38Speaker 12: This is the Kennall County Commission with our Public Safety
- 42:41Speaker 12: grant funds, which we are grateful for the citizens of
- 42:45Speaker 12: Kennall County to approve that levy. Then making sure this
- 42:49Speaker 12: money is going to support our first responders. We're going
- 42:52Speaker 12: to reimburse them and now it's going to be at
- 42:55Speaker 12: no cost to them. And what's wrong with that, Dave?
- 42:58Speaker 12: I mean, these are firefighters that are coming out to
- 43:01Speaker 12: save your life, save your property, and we're going to
- 43:03Speaker 12: make sure that they're properly trained. We're going to make
- 43:05Speaker 12: sure that they're qualified. We're going to make sure that
- 43:08Speaker 12: they have all the knowledge necessary when seconds matter to
- 43:11Speaker 12: make those very quick decisions that could be life saving.
- 43:15Speaker 6: So I think this is going to be great. I
- 43:17Speaker 6: think we will see more participation.
- 43:18Speaker 12: We're going to see more people joining these classes, and
- 43:22Speaker 12: we're going to maybe even look at maybe going broad
- 43:25Speaker 12: with this. How can we get Kennall County Ambums Authority involved,
- 43:28Speaker 12: How can we get the police departments involved? This is
- 43:31Speaker 12: about getting the necessary training to our first responders in
- 43:35Speaker 12: making sure that they're taken care of, which makes you
- 43:38Speaker 12: taken care of.
- 43:39Speaker 4: Talking with Kennan County Commissioner Lance Sweet, all right, before
- 43:41Speaker 4: we let you go, I know you're headed down the
- 43:43Speaker 4: street because you are going to sign I mean, you
- 43:47Speaker 4: announced it on the show that you're going to run
- 43:48Speaker 4: for state Senate, but you are going to go to
- 43:50Speaker 4: the Capitol and do the whole thing there. Why do
- 43:52Speaker 4: you want to be state center.
- 43:53Speaker 12: Well, I think let's look at the track record that
- 43:56Speaker 12: I've done as a can all kind of commissioner. We
- 43:58Speaker 12: I've worked on multiple projects, whether that's essential services like
- 44:01Speaker 12: our water. I've always supported our first responders, which I
- 44:04Speaker 12: think is something that's crucial that we need to do
- 44:06Speaker 12: on the state level. I've always been there for economic development,
- 44:10Speaker 12: working with the breeze announcement, getting breeze flights, whether it's
- 44:13Speaker 12: New York, Las Vegas, Florida, potentially Texas.
- 44:20Speaker 6: I've worked with businesses, you know.
- 44:22Speaker 12: I come with a conservative principle of let's get government
- 44:25Speaker 12: out of the way so that way we can move
- 44:28Speaker 12: forward and bring jobs here.
- 44:30Speaker 6: To West Virginia.
- 44:32Speaker 12: And so I'm proud to have that track record, that
- 44:36Speaker 12: conservative principal track record for the last five years. And
- 44:39Speaker 12: I think that it's something that I can bring to
- 44:40Speaker 12: the table when I come to the State Senate and
- 44:44Speaker 12: making sure that we are moving our state in the
- 44:46Speaker 12: right direction, making West Virginia a better place to live, work,
- 44:50Speaker 12: and raise a family, and looking at how can we
- 44:54Speaker 12: cut taxes to put money back into your pocket.
- 44:56Speaker 6: As a taxpayer.
- 44:57Speaker 12: And the way we do that is we need to
- 44:59Speaker 12: start finding the waste, abuse and fraud. You can't tell me, Dave,
- 45:03Speaker 12: that there's not one dollar that's being spent that couldn't
- 45:07Speaker 12: be more efficiently spent so we can save that money.
- 45:10Speaker 12: And what my plan would be is, let's start looking
- 45:13Speaker 12: at how we're spending money on the state level. How
- 45:15Speaker 12: can we be more efficient and save that money so
- 45:18Speaker 12: we can continue to do those essential services and then
- 45:21Speaker 12: take those savings and bring it back to the taxpayers
- 45:23Speaker 12: by eliminating the state income town.
- 45:25Speaker 4: And what's your district to gain at your run four season?
- 45:27Speaker 12: So my district will be the eighth senatorial district. It's
- 45:30Speaker 12: part of Kennall County, part of Putnam, part of Jackson,
- 45:33Speaker 12: part of Rome, and then it's also all of Clay County.
- 45:36Speaker 4: All right, kennaughh County Commissioner and Canada for State Senate Lanceweel.
- 45:40Speaker 4: I appreciate you being here, man, Thanks a lot.
- 45:41Speaker 6: Thanks for having me, Dave.
