- 0:00Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and welcome to another episode
- 0:05of the United Church of Tonga Youth Devotion.
- 0:10Our Bible passage for today is taken from 2 Chronicles 7, verse 14.
- 0:17It says, if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray
- 0:25and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways,
- 0:30then I will hear from heaven,
- 0:32and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
- 0:38The theme is a call for revival.
- 0:42The book of 2 Chronicles is a guidebook for revival.
- 0:47As we read through it, we learn about spiritual awakenings that happened one
- 0:55after another. In this time and age, we hear so much about the word revival.
- 1:02But what does it really mean?
- 1:04Revival is an improvement in something or someone's condition, strength or fortune.
- 1:12Revival is needed individually and in the church today.
- 1:18Today's passage is God's spoken words to King Solomon, a message to the people of Israel.
- 1:26It is a call for revival.
- 1:28To revive God's people, they needed to do three things.
- 1:34One, to humble themselves and pray.
- 1:38Two, to seek God's face. And three, to turn away from their wicked ways.
- 1:46When God's people do this, the Lord says, then he will hear from heaven and do two things.
- 1:55One, he will forgive their sin, and two, he will heal their land.
- 2:03We see here how revival must happen for the nation's awakening.
- 2:09When a nation is awakened, many people are aware of their need for God's salvation.
- 2:17We see multitudes come to Christ because he draws them to himself.
- 2:24But for this kind of movement to take place, God tells King Solomon that my
- 2:30people who are called by my name must go through revival.
- 2:37They must humble themselves and pray.
- 2:41Humility is knowing who God is.
- 2:44He is holy and all-powerful. We are, on the other hand, a sinful people.
- 2:52Humility is knowing that we only exist because of God.
- 2:58With that knowledge, we pray without ceasing and turn away from our wicked ways.
- 3:06We seek God's face daily.
- 3:10We cannot serve two masters.
- 3:13We must let go of our sinful ways and humble ourselves before God.
- 3:21We see so much darkness in this world.
- 3:25Sin is increasing. It is getting worse.
- 3:29But what do we do about this as God's children?
- 3:33The answer is found in today's passage. We need revival in our individual lives and in the church.
- 3:43When genuine revival occurs individually and collectively, it flows out to the rest of the community.
- 3:53People will see this light and want the same for themselves.
- 3:58Let us allow the Holy Spirit to come in and revive us and his church today. Let us pray.
- 4:08Dear Lord Jesus, here I am. I humbly come to you today.
- 4:14Revive me. Please give me the desire to seek your face daily and turn away from my wicked ways.
- 4:25Let it be for our church too.
- 4:28In your holy name I pray. Amen.
