- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome to pick Up and Deliver the podcast, where I
- 0:06Speaker 1: pick up my audio recorder as I step out for
- 0:07Speaker 1: a walk and deliver an episode two while I stroll around.
- 0:10Speaker 1: I'm Brendan Riley. Well, greetings, listeners. It's a chilly day
- 0:23Speaker 1: here in suburban Chicago. The weather is up and down
- 0:26Speaker 1: and all over the place. Two days ago, it was
- 0:28Speaker 1: so hot I was wearing a T shirt on my
- 0:30Speaker 1: walk home and I was still sweating up a storm.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Now I've got hat and gloves on and a windproof jacket,
- 0:36Speaker 1: and I suspect I'm going to be cold by the
- 0:37Speaker 1: time my walk is done. Yoicks. But it is Wednesday,
- 0:41Speaker 1: so I'm working from home today. I need to get
- 0:43Speaker 1: a little bit of exercise, and so I thought I
- 0:45Speaker 1: would get out, walk around a little and talk to
- 0:47Speaker 1: you about board games. I also noticed it's April first,
- 0:50Speaker 1: and so that means it's time for a Top of
- 0:52Speaker 1: the Stack. For those of you knew to the podcast,
- 0:55Speaker 1: Top of the Stack is a segment episode in which
- 0:58Speaker 1: I talk about the games I play last month, talk
- 1:00Speaker 1: about the games I'm hoping to play next month, and
- 1:03Speaker 1: generally it's the sort of most what I've been playing
- 1:07Speaker 1: kind of episode of course, the Board Game Espress episodes
- 1:10Speaker 1: also do that some, but this one is a lot
- 1:12Speaker 1: more lists and such, so if you're in the mood
- 1:14Speaker 1: for lists, let's go. I also would love to hear
- 1:18Speaker 1: what you've been playing. You can share that information with
- 1:20Speaker 1: me over on Board Game Geek and Guild three two
- 1:22Speaker 1: sixty nine and the pick Up and Deliver Guild. We
- 1:25Speaker 1: do usually have a little bit of activity each month
- 1:28Speaker 1: on the at the beginning of the month, and it's
- 1:31Speaker 1: fun too hear from everybody. We had a new listener
- 1:34Speaker 1: that I haven't seen comment before on the reading Roundup conversation.
- 1:38Speaker 1: So lovely to see you there, sir or madam. I
- 1:42Speaker 1: guess I apologize I've forgotten the name already, dang it. Anyhow,
- 1:46Speaker 1: so I am talking about what I played in March.
- 1:49Speaker 1: So in March I here are my stats. I played
- 1:53Speaker 1: one hundred and four plays of sixty two different games.
- 1:56Speaker 1: My year total thus far is two hundred and forty
- 1:58Speaker 1: three plays of one hundred and nine team games. At
- 2:01Speaker 1: this pace, I'm looking at one thousand plays in a year,
- 2:05Speaker 1: give or take. If I had been at two fifty,
- 2:06Speaker 1: that would be exactly on pace for one thousand. So
- 2:09Speaker 1: I'm a little behind, but I usually get some more
- 2:11Speaker 1: plays in in other months my sholf of opportunity. I
- 2:14Speaker 1: am not doing great at the reducing my shelf of
- 2:17Speaker 1: Opportunity mandate. It was eighty six going in or it
- 2:21Speaker 1: was eighty nine going into March, and it came out
- 2:24Speaker 1: at eighty nine, So I guess I'm not doing bad either.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I'm right in the middle. My collection size has grown, however,
- 2:30Speaker 1: It's gone from six hundred and nineteen to six hundred
- 2:33Speaker 1: and twenty three games. I acquired a couple of games
- 2:35Speaker 1: this month, a couple for free and a couple at
- 2:37Speaker 1: discount from thift stores, so the collection grows. My most
- 2:42Speaker 1: played game this month was Strike with five plays in
- 2:45Speaker 1: real life and on a zuor online with four plays.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I'm starting to get the hang of it better, chasing
- 2:51Speaker 1: Gabriel's superior play as I start to understand the systems
- 2:56Speaker 1: a little better. Hopefully soon I shall be even matched. Okay,
- 3:00Speaker 1: so top of the sack the top of the stack itself,
- 3:03Speaker 1: like I call the whole episode top of the stack.
- 3:05Speaker 1: But the narrower idea is that you pick a couple
- 3:08Speaker 1: games that you're gonna try to play that month and
- 3:11Speaker 1: then report on whether you played them. My particular formula
- 3:14Speaker 1: is to pick four games in a month that I
- 3:16Speaker 1: want to try to play, and if I play three
- 3:18Speaker 1: of them, I consider that a success. By that logic,
- 3:20Speaker 1: the one game I played this month does not make
- 3:23Speaker 1: for success. Wiener dogs are barking at me. Fun fact,
- 3:27Speaker 1: wiener dog. The formal name of it is Docksund, which
- 3:31Speaker 1: is German for badger hound. They were bred to be
- 3:34Speaker 1: short and squat like that so they could go into
- 3:36Speaker 1: badger holes and hunt badgers, dangerous little dogs. There were
- 3:40Speaker 1: four games that I picked out to try to play
- 3:42Speaker 1: this month, Hanset Tutonica, Lost, Ruins of Arnak, Root, and
- 3:46Speaker 1: Core Worlds, and I only played one of those, Hanse Tutanica.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I've not done an episode about that, a board Game
- 3:52Speaker 1: Espresso episode about that, but I will do that soon. Hey,
- 3:54Speaker 1: here's a question that I'd love to see some conversation
- 3:57Speaker 1: about in the forums. I tend to do the Board
- 4:00Speaker 1: Game Espresso episodes on a delay, so I just when
- 4:04Speaker 1: it's time to do the next one, I look at
- 4:05Speaker 1: the next few games I played and produce it that way.
- 4:08Speaker 1: But that means that I'm usually about a month behind
- 4:10Speaker 1: what i've played. Another approach could be when I go
- 4:14Speaker 1: to do the board game Espresso episodes, I just pick
- 4:17Speaker 1: like three of the most recent games I haven't talked
- 4:19Speaker 1: about yet and do those, and so then if there's
- 4:22Speaker 1: a leg where I don't play any new ones, that's
- 4:24Speaker 1: when I'm going back and covering some older games. But
- 4:27Speaker 1: most of the time I'm talking about the most recent plays.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Which do you think works better? On one hand, I
- 4:33Speaker 1: like the most recent plays idea, because they're fresh in
- 4:35Speaker 1: my mind, I'm probably able to talk about them a
- 4:37Speaker 1: little bit better. But I feel like then when I
- 4:39Speaker 1: am reaching back for those old ones, some of them
- 4:41Speaker 1: are going to be very old, and maybe the coverage
- 4:43Speaker 1: is worse. I'm not sure. I'm keen to hear what
- 4:46Speaker 1: you think. Just let me know. I played hans Atsutanka,
- 4:48Speaker 1: did not play the other three. At one point I
- 4:51Speaker 1: was I was going to play Lost Ruin's Varnek, but
- 4:53Speaker 1: I gave in to other people wanted to play other stuff,
- 4:56Speaker 1: and I'm like, okay, well I don't need to play that.
- 4:59Speaker 1: So I did not get that played. It was a
- 5:01Speaker 1: good month, though, I did get to try some new games.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Coming into this month, I had nineteen New to Me
- 5:07Speaker 1: games tried this year and I managed to try another
- 5:11Speaker 1: eight of them, so here they are. I played the
- 5:14Speaker 1: game of forty nine Hansea Tutanica You Knew That One Mantis,
- 5:18Speaker 1: which is a game from the Exploding Kittens People, Hot Streak,
- 5:22Speaker 1: Can't conbin ev Epona, Inc. And the Marshmallow Test That
- 5:27Speaker 1: brings me to twenty seven new to me games tried
- 5:29Speaker 1: this year. Happy to talk about those in upcoming episodes.
- 5:34Speaker 1: I tried out two expansions this month that I'd never
- 5:38Speaker 1: played before, Dice Thrown Barbarian Versus Moon Elf and Underwater
- 5:42Speaker 1: Citi's Data Era. That brings me up to four new
- 5:45Speaker 1: to Me expansions tried this year. The Dice Thrown Barbarian
- 5:49Speaker 1: one is a game that's sort of in my collection,
- 5:52Speaker 1: but it doesn't belong to me. It belongs to my son.
- 5:55Speaker 1: And we played that. We played best of three? Did
- 5:58Speaker 1: we play best with No? We were gonna play best three,
- 6:00Speaker 1: but we only had to play Oh what did we
- 6:02Speaker 1: play the best? I think we just played two, but
- 6:05Speaker 1: both times the person who was playing the Barbarian one,
- 6:09Speaker 1: so like we switched sides and just the Barbarian one
- 6:12Speaker 1: both times. The moon Alf just proved a little harder
- 6:16Speaker 1: to make work, and the Barbarian hits really hard, So
- 6:19Speaker 1: it'll be interesting to see over the long term it
- 6:21Speaker 1: is one of these in balance with the other, or
- 6:24Speaker 1: is there a problem there. I don't know. I don't
- 6:27Speaker 1: know if I'll play enough Dice Throne to have that
- 6:29Speaker 1: decision made. I also tried the Underwater Citi's Data Era expansion.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna save that conversation for a board Game Espresso episode.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I will talk about that expansion there. I did get
- 6:43Speaker 1: to dust off a number of titles this month. I
- 6:46Speaker 1: seemed to be doing something in an orderly fashion because
- 6:49Speaker 1: coming in to March I had fourteen games dusted off,
- 6:53Speaker 1: which comes to roughly seven a month, or exactly seven
- 6:56Speaker 1: a month, and you'll never guess what the total is
- 6:59Speaker 1: for this one seven more. I'm at twenty one now,
- 7:02Speaker 1: so part of me thinking like, oh, I'm gonna have
- 7:04Speaker 1: to start aiming for seven, and or holding back like ooh,
- 7:07Speaker 1: can we play that? Not until next month? It's dusty
- 7:10Speaker 1: and I don't want to get eight games. We'll see anyway.
- 7:14Speaker 1: The seven that I played were Access and Allies Guadalcanal.
- 7:18Speaker 1: It's been two years, five months and twenty five days
- 7:20Speaker 1: since I played that one Quest for El Dorado one year,
- 7:23Speaker 1: nine month, eleven days Dusty. I'm kind of sad that
- 7:25Speaker 1: one got Dusty. I like it a lot. It's really fun.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I wish that I had purchased the expansion when they
- 7:32Speaker 1: were widely available and in print in a way that
- 7:35Speaker 1: matched the currents that I have. I have the original printing,
- 7:38Speaker 1: and I think the reprints they changed the design slightly,
- 7:41Speaker 1: so I don't know if the expansion mixes with it.
- 7:44Speaker 1: That is a game I wouldn't mind having the expansion for,
- 7:46Speaker 1: but I may have missed my boat on that. Via
- 7:48Speaker 1: Nebula three years, nineteen days, Dusty Hughes and Q's one year,
- 7:52Speaker 1: one month, nineteen days, Dusty Point Salad one year, six months,
- 7:56Speaker 1: nineteen days Dusty Woodcraft two years, seven months, seen days Dusty,
- 8:01Speaker 1: and Rhino Here Hero five years, five months Dusty. Although
- 8:05Speaker 1: I will say it's a little misleading because I have
- 8:08Speaker 1: a number of times played Rhino Hero super Battle and
- 8:11Speaker 1: that game is very similar. It's sort of an upgraded version.
- 8:14Speaker 1: It's like if you said I played Dune Imperium and
- 8:16Speaker 1: then I played Dune Imperium Uprising, Well, did you when
- 8:19Speaker 1: you played Uprising, Did you play Dune Imperium or not?
- 8:21Speaker 1: And that's kind of what's going on with Rhino Hero.
- 8:23Speaker 1: But I have not played Rhino Hero Regular one in
- 8:26Speaker 1: several years, so it was fun to get that dusted off.
- 8:30Speaker 1: It's a good game as always, and as usual I
- 8:33Speaker 1: will talk about those games more in Bordium Espresso episodes
- 8:37Speaker 1: and or in the Emptying the Dustbin sequence when I
- 8:40Speaker 1: get to the point where I have missed a number
- 8:42Speaker 1: of those. So as you know, I am trying. I'm
- 8:45Speaker 1: making an effort to play every game on my top
- 8:49Speaker 1: fifty list before the end of this year. I started
- 8:51Speaker 1: that two years ago. I always I give myself a
- 8:53Speaker 1: two year cycle to play all fifty games again, and
- 8:56Speaker 1: I am not doing great at it. I played on
- 9:00Speaker 1: Rotter Cities this month. The thing is it has to
- 9:01Speaker 1: be on the table. Like a number of these games
- 9:03Speaker 1: I have played digitally a lot, but to meet the
- 9:07Speaker 1: requirement of playing it on my Top fifty, I have
- 9:09Speaker 1: to play it on the table. So Underwater Cities is
- 9:11Speaker 1: a game I play a bunch on Yukata dot Dee.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Invite me to a game. Wombat nine two nine is
- 9:16Speaker 1: my username there. If you'd like, but I hadn't played
- 9:18Speaker 1: it on the table in a while, so it was
- 9:20Speaker 1: good to get it out. So I have sixteen games
- 9:22Speaker 1: left to play on the table, which means that if
- 9:26Speaker 1: I were to seventeen excuse me, there's a typo seventeen games,
- 9:30Speaker 1: which means that if I'm gonna get all these played,
- 9:32Speaker 1: I need to be playing two a month from now
- 9:34Speaker 1: on or more. That's gonna be tricky. I want to
- 9:37Speaker 1: do it, but it's gonna be tricky, and a lot
- 9:40Speaker 1: of them are big games. So here's the games I
- 9:42Speaker 1: have left to play. Tra carry On, Terraforming, Mars Through
- 9:45Speaker 1: the Ages, Glory to Rome, Vampire, The Eternal Struggle, Star Wars, Rebellion, Pandemic, Legacy, Agricola,
- 9:52Speaker 1: Matainai Cerebria, Anacrony, Mosaic, Lost, Ruins, Varnak, If I let Imperium,
- 10:01Speaker 1: Dungeon Pets, Messina thirteen forty seven on eighteen hundred and Evacuation.
- 10:05Speaker 1: That's a lot of game. I would be surprised if
- 10:07Speaker 1: I get them all done, but I'm not going to
- 10:09Speaker 1: give up on the goal my ten for ten. On
- 10:11Speaker 1: the other hand, I think I am making progress. We
- 10:13Speaker 1: have done I've done fifty one plays from my ten
- 10:17Speaker 1: for ten now, so I'm over halfway done and we're
- 10:19Speaker 1: a quarter the way through the year. As anyone who's
- 10:21Speaker 1: done a ten for ten knows, though, the first half
- 10:24Speaker 1: is way easier than the second half. The reason you
- 10:26Speaker 1: do them quickly is because they're easier to resolve. Now
- 10:28Speaker 1: that's I mean, that's true for me because I put
- 10:31Speaker 1: together these weird ten for ten. It's really one hundred
- 10:33Speaker 1: game challenge. It's not reasonable to call it a ten
- 10:35Speaker 1: for ten. I'm not playing ten games ten times, which
- 10:37Speaker 1: is the original goal of the ten for ten. But anyway,
- 10:41Speaker 1: so here are my progress so far. Challenge one, this
- 10:44Speaker 1: is maybe the easiest challenge. I want to play ten
- 10:47Speaker 1: different player colors over the course of the year. I
- 10:49Speaker 1: am up to nine now. I played Orange and Spirit
- 10:52Speaker 1: Island Brown in Vietnabula, so I'm up to nine different
- 10:55Speaker 1: player colors. I've not made a progress on player count.
- 10:59Speaker 1: I have play mad games at every player count from
- 11:02Speaker 1: one to seven, but I still have eight, nine and
- 11:04Speaker 1: ten to go continents. I've still played only four games
- 11:08Speaker 1: out of the ten I need as a reminder for continents.
- 11:11Speaker 1: The idea is that I want to play two games
- 11:14Speaker 1: that take place on each continent that is not Europe
- 11:17Speaker 1: or North America. The other five continents two games each
- 11:21Speaker 1: games that are that take place there. I also am trying.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I don't know if I've made it a firm rule,
- 11:27Speaker 1: but I think I'm leaning toward that, not to replay
- 11:31Speaker 1: games that I used for those continents in previous years,
- 11:36Speaker 1: trying to do something different. So no progress on that
- 11:38Speaker 1: this month. The worst category I'm on is games that
- 11:43Speaker 1: have been on my shelf of opportunity since before twenty
- 11:46Speaker 1: twenty five. There are roughly forty five of those games.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I need to play ten of them. I've only played one. Unfortunately.
- 11:53Speaker 1: The reason they've been on the list is there bottom
- 11:56Speaker 1: of the barrel in terms of easy to get played
- 11:58Speaker 1: or attractiveness. There's some games on there that I have
- 12:01Speaker 1: there because I want to own them for various reasons,
- 12:04Speaker 1: but they're hard to get to the table. All of
- 12:05Speaker 1: the games in that list are hard to get to
- 12:07Speaker 1: the table, so it's a challenge. I'm making great progress
- 12:10Speaker 1: on the Vladimir Succi list. I want to play ten
- 12:13Speaker 1: different games on the table by Vladimir Succi before the
- 12:16Speaker 1: end of the year. I played three this month. Epona,
- 12:18Speaker 1: Underwater Cities, and Woodcraft Martin Wallace. I want to play
- 12:22Speaker 1: ten of his games as well. I've only played two
- 12:24Speaker 1: London previous month and via Nebula this month. Now Here.
- 12:28Speaker 1: This is one I have retconned. My original seventh challenge
- 12:32Speaker 1: was I wanted to play ten new games from the
- 12:35Speaker 1: top two hundred and fifty on board game Geek. Well,
- 12:38Speaker 1: I got about two months in and I played a
- 12:41Speaker 1: game that I was sure was going to be on
- 12:43Speaker 1: that list in February and it wasn't on the list,
- 12:46Speaker 1: and I was thinking about it March. I'm like, if
- 12:48Speaker 1: this game wasn't in the top two fifty, I'm what
- 12:51Speaker 1: games am I going to play? So I went and looked,
- 12:52Speaker 1: actually looked at the top two fifty of what games
- 12:55Speaker 1: are there that I have not played that I'm interested
- 12:58Speaker 1: in playing? Not very many. I mean there were I
- 13:01Speaker 1: certainly could find ten, but it's a difficult ten and
- 13:05Speaker 1: I've given myself a number of difficult challenges. I wanted
- 13:07Speaker 1: this challenge to be a little easier. The whole point
- 13:09Speaker 1: is to play well regarded games that I haven't played before.
- 13:12Speaker 1: So I reconfigured it to say games in the top
- 13:16Speaker 1: five hundred so I'm trying to buy ten new games
- 13:19Speaker 1: in the top five hundred on board game Geek, so
- 13:23Speaker 1: that's a much more manageable approach. Under that light, I
- 13:26Speaker 1: have played one more and actually this was in the
- 13:30Speaker 1: top two fifty. This is hansa Teutonica. But looking back then,
- 13:33Speaker 1: I'm actually I have played four so far this year.
- 13:36Speaker 1: That may be a little bit of a cheat. Sorry.
- 13:39Speaker 1: And then finally, the last three challenges are alphabet challenges
- 13:43Speaker 1: along with four numbers, and I've made great progress. In
- 13:45Speaker 1: the beginning of the alphabet. I played Fantasy Realms, Escape,
- 13:49Speaker 1: Curse of the Temple, and Just One, which means that
- 13:51Speaker 1: in the top the first third of the alphabet, I
- 13:54Speaker 1: am done. I've played all ten letters up through J.
- 13:58Speaker 1: I played Mantis for M, so I'm up to eight
- 14:01Speaker 1: letters in the next part of the alphabet. And then,
- 14:03Speaker 1: as always, the numbers and the late letters in the
- 14:06Speaker 1: alphabet prove challenging. I really need to make an effort
- 14:10Speaker 1: to play those numbers earlier. Last year, I got kind
- 14:13Speaker 1: of screwed by waiting as long as I did, so
- 14:15Speaker 1: not gonna happen this year, he says, as he actively
- 14:19Speaker 1: doesn't do anything to expand his work there, so I'm
- 14:22Speaker 1: making fun making advances on the ten per ten challenge.
- 14:25Speaker 1: I'd love to hear over on Board Game Guild three
- 14:27Speaker 1: T six nine what challenges you're facing. We have a
- 14:31Speaker 1: number of members who post in the top of the
- 14:33Speaker 1: sack who have challenges of various kinds. I love hearing
- 14:37Speaker 1: how you're making progress on that, or if you don't
- 14:39Speaker 1: like to do that sort of thing, that's okay too.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Just post about like how do you decide what games
- 14:43Speaker 1: you want to play? Do you put any thinking into like, okay,
- 14:47Speaker 1: I want to get this kind of gameplay soon. How
- 14:49Speaker 1: do you decide or do you drift along like a
- 14:53Speaker 1: balloon and you bounce off of whatever runs into you?
- 14:56Speaker 1: Or are you play by what tickles your fancy that day.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I'd love to hear how do you decide? They're all welcome,
- 15:02Speaker 1: all right? So, as you know, I'm as much a
- 15:04Speaker 1: collector as I am a player, so I'd love to
- 15:06Speaker 1: talk a little bit about how the collection is shaping up.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I have acquired two expansions this month. I acquired the
- 15:12Speaker 1: Underwater City's Data Era expansion, which is great and also
- 15:16Speaker 1: doesn't take our shelf room. It's small enough. It all
- 15:18Speaker 1: fit right in the box. Now the box is over
- 15:20Speaker 1: full like it sticks. I have shelflet. I have a
- 15:23Speaker 1: box lift, but I had box lift before as well,
- 15:26Speaker 1: so that's not new. I'm thinking about making an insert
- 15:30Speaker 1: for myself. There are some inserts that you can print online,
- 15:32Speaker 1: but none of them quite do what I want them
- 15:34Speaker 1: to do, so I'm thinking about making one that might
- 15:36Speaker 1: be a project for this summer. And then I also
- 15:39Speaker 1: have the expansion characters for the game Pulp Romance. Pulp
- 15:43Speaker 1: Romance is a game by Todd Sanders, who is an
- 15:46Speaker 1: independent designer, a graphic designer and game designer. His best
- 15:50Speaker 1: well known game, I think is Mister Cabbage Heead's Garden,
- 15:53Speaker 1: but he's got a number of games that I've acquired.
- 15:55Speaker 1: I really like his design sensibility and the games are
- 15:58Speaker 1: pretty interesting. I have a previous game he made called
- 16:03Speaker 1: Pulp Detective, which is really fun. It's hard, very hard,
- 16:08Speaker 1: and really random, so there's a lot of dice rolling
- 16:10Speaker 1: and you know, if the dice come up badly, well
- 16:11Speaker 1: too bad. But it's a fun time. And he's released
- 16:14Speaker 1: a new yer game called Pulp Romance. And in both
- 16:16Speaker 1: of these they have really evocative art using art from
- 16:20Speaker 1: these pulp novels from the thirties and forties, or maybe twenties,
- 16:24Speaker 1: thirties and forties, I don't know. I ended up getting
- 16:26Speaker 1: Pulp Romance, winning it in a contest because mister Sanders
- 16:30Speaker 1: had a thing on his board game geek thread where
- 16:33Speaker 1: he said, if you send me like, write a bio
- 16:35Speaker 1: for one of the characters in pulp Romance and send
- 16:37Speaker 1: it to me, and I'll do a drawing of everybody
- 16:38Speaker 1: who sends it and send a copy of the game
- 16:40Speaker 1: to the winner, and the winner is me. Collection size itself.
- 16:44Speaker 1: I started at six p nineteen and it went up
- 16:46Speaker 1: to six twenty three by the end of the month.
- 16:48Speaker 1: But it's not I'm not as acquisition crazy as it seems.
- 16:52Speaker 1: I got rid of three games through careful editing. Looking
- 16:57Speaker 1: through my collection, I discovered three games that I had
- 16:59Speaker 1: either sold or traded away or put on permanent loans,
- 17:02Speaker 1: so they're not marked in the collection anymore, but they
- 17:04Speaker 1: were still marked in the collection that was Notre Dame
- 17:08Speaker 1: Hanabi and Detective of Modern Crime Story. I also I
- 17:15Speaker 1: acquired one, two, three, three games from goodwill. This is
- 17:20Speaker 1: the Marshmallow Test, pan Am, and Pitt so I've added
- 17:24Speaker 1: those back to my collection. I acquired one. I found
- 17:28Speaker 1: a correction for one game that I added to the collection.
- 17:31Speaker 1: This is Box two. This is a game I bought
- 17:34Speaker 1: a while ago and just never marked that I had it.
- 17:36Speaker 1: And finally I did acquire two new games. This is
- 17:40Speaker 1: Epona and Light Speed Arena, both of which are Epona.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I bought light Speed Arena I won in a contest
- 17:48Speaker 1: last fall on board game Geek, one of those publication
- 17:51Speaker 1: contests they do where you go through and answer questions.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Apparently you actually do win those sometimes. I won one
- 17:56Speaker 1: and they sent me this game. I haven't tried it yet,
- 17:58Speaker 1: but I'm looking forward to. So my collection is at
- 18:00Speaker 1: six hundred and twenty three at the end of this month.
- 18:03Speaker 1: At the end of next month it should be pretty
- 18:04Speaker 1: much the same. I don't have any current plans set
- 18:07Speaker 1: up to buy any games. However. The Math, the Chicago
- 18:11Speaker 1: No Ship Math trade is happening this weekend, and I'm
- 18:14Speaker 1: gonna be trading eleven games for eleven games, so I'm
- 18:18Speaker 1: gonna be acquiring a bunch of new games. There are
- 18:20Speaker 1: also four games in the auction that I have bid on.
- 18:23Speaker 1: We'll see whether any of those come through. I'm unaware
- 18:26Speaker 1: of them coming through thus far, but we'll see. Actually,
- 18:30Speaker 1: you know what, I am gonna I will go down
- 18:33Speaker 1: at least one game because one of the games that
- 18:36Speaker 1: sold in the auction sold for cash, so I get
- 18:39Speaker 1: a little bit of cash and one less game that
- 18:42Speaker 1: I'm bringing or in the trade. So finally this brings
- 18:45Speaker 1: a question of next month. I'm looking forward to April.
- 18:47Speaker 1: It's gonna be a fun turn in the weather. It's
- 18:49Speaker 1: gonna be a delightful month for playing games. The schedule
- 18:53Speaker 1: of the month is such that there's going to be
- 18:55Speaker 1: five Wednesdays in the month because April first, that's today,
- 19:00Speaker 1: No Foolin' is a Wednesday, which means that there's gonna
- 19:03Speaker 1: be five Wednesdays, which means five toggle game nights, which
- 19:07Speaker 1: is the highest payout of time I get to play games.
- 19:11Speaker 1: So that's gonna be fun, and I'm looking forward to
- 19:13Speaker 1: trying to the game. So however, the games that I
- 19:16Speaker 1: had in my list this month are the games I
- 19:19Speaker 1: want to play. So I've left all the ones that
- 19:21Speaker 1: I didn't succeed at last month. I've left there. I'm
- 19:24Speaker 1: not gonna do it again. Because Core Worlds. This is
- 19:26Speaker 1: the third month in a Row I've left in there.
- 19:27Speaker 1: I got to get that played, but so Core Worlds, Lost,
- 19:31Speaker 1: Ruins of Arnak, and Root are all still in there now. Root,
- 19:35Speaker 1: I've explained. I picked up a used copy at a
- 19:37Speaker 1: thrift store and my neighbors want to play it, so
- 19:40Speaker 1: I know I'm sort of setting myself up for a
- 19:41Speaker 1: win there. We were gonna play it last month at
- 19:43Speaker 1: last month, last minute, we had to cancel, which was
- 19:45Speaker 1: a bummer because I thought that was a for sure,
- 19:47Speaker 1: a for sure win. It didn't turn out to be.
- 19:50Speaker 1: This month, we may change that. And finally, the other
- 19:52Speaker 1: game I'm putting on the on the list is Light
- 19:55Speaker 1: Speed Arena. This is the card game that I won
- 19:58Speaker 1: from Board Game Geek. I want to put something new
- 20:00Speaker 1: that I just got onto the list and see if
- 20:03Speaker 1: I can get it played. I'm hoping we'll get more
- 20:05Speaker 1: new stuff on the table this month, but those are
- 20:07Speaker 1: the goals. Well, that brings me to the end of
- 20:09Speaker 1: my list and almost the end of the podcast. So
- 20:12Speaker 1: I'd love to hear from you. What have you been
- 20:14Speaker 1: playing this month? What's your top play? What is my
- 20:17Speaker 1: top play? I don't think I said I should get
- 20:20Speaker 1: in the habit of saying my top play. My top
- 20:22Speaker 1: play was Underwater Cities. I like that game a lot.
- 20:24Speaker 1: It's been a while since I've had it on the
- 20:26Speaker 1: table and it was a delight to do. It went
- 20:28Speaker 1: a little slow. We were playing four players and it
- 20:31Speaker 1: had been a while, so we're all a little rusty,
- 20:33Speaker 1: but boy, what a delight. I like that game a lot.
- 20:37Speaker 1: That's Underwater Cities from Vladimir Suci my top play of March. Well,
- 20:42Speaker 1: i'd love to hear what you've been playing. Head over
- 20:44Speaker 1: to board game get Guild three two six nine and
- 20:46Speaker 1: share your plays there with me, please, Otherwise you could
- 20:50Speaker 1: send me an email Brendan at rattleboxgames dot com. Well
- 20:53Speaker 1: that's about it for me. I want to say thanks
- 20:55Speaker 1: for joining me on a walk today. I hope that
