- 1:20Speaker 1: Tommy Coda. Welcome guys. What's up? Thanks for coming in today, Tommy.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Haven't seen you here in, well, it's been a few weeks,
- 1:27Speaker 1: at least. You're one
- 1:27Speaker 1: of our regulars.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's all good. It's been, been busy. Uh,
- 1:31Speaker 2: we just got done with our trunk or treat. It
- 1:34Speaker 2: was like our, I think our 3rd annual, um, trunk
- 1:37Speaker 2: or treat event that we had at, at the church.
- 1:39Speaker 2: In the parking lot and man it was, it was
- 1:41Speaker 2: really cool. It was uh
- 1:42Speaker 1: did you bring any leftover candy you know
- 1:44Speaker 2: it's
- 1:44Speaker 2: all at the house, yeah, so all the chocolate and
- 1:47Speaker 2: think of us, you know, actually, you know what we
- 1:49Speaker 2: ran out of candy we had so much candy and
- 1:52Speaker 2: I just couldn't believe we ran out of it. I
- 1:54Speaker 2: was like we're, we're gone like it's gone and, and, um, yeah,
- 1:58Speaker 2: so we went and did another candy run and, and
- 2:00Speaker 2: it was, it was really cool just to see.
- 2:03Speaker 2: The city of Santa Ana, uh, where our church is
- 2:05Speaker 2: located right behind, there's just tons of, of apartments, a
- 2:09Speaker 2: lot of apartments, and so we've just been canvassing that
- 2:12Speaker 2: area with flyers and, and, um.
- 2:15Speaker 2: The the city had come out, you know, a bunch
- 2:17Speaker 2: of kids and, and so it was a lot of
- 2:19Speaker 2: fun and the gospel message just was going out in
- 2:24Speaker 2: each of the, the cars, so our church, we invited
- 2:27Speaker 2: our church family to like decorate their cars and everything
- 2:30Speaker 2: that kind of, you know, um, and just it was
- 2:32Speaker 2: very uh an opportunity for our church just to be
- 2:35Speaker 2: evangelical because every.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Every car that was decorated had like this theme of
- 2:41Speaker 2: of the gospel sharing the gospel and so um yeah
- 2:44Speaker 2: it was really cool just to you know I was
- 2:47Speaker 2: I got to I dressed up well I didn't really
- 2:48Speaker 2: dress up but I I had like a just a
- 2:50Speaker 2: big giant wig like a a Jheri curl wig, you know,
- 2:53Speaker 2: and I put my glasses on and and they're like
- 2:56Speaker 2: hey who are you? I said, man, I'm, I'm the
- 2:58Speaker 2: original Jesus freak from Hope of Life Church just telling
- 3:01Speaker 2: everybody about Jesus, you know, and uh yeah it was,
- 3:04Speaker 2: it was a bunch of fun, you know, um, so.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Yeah, the Lord showed up and did some really cool
- 3:11Speaker 2: things and, and, uh, one of the guys from our church, he, he's, I,
- 3:14Speaker 2: I was told that he said, you know, for sure
- 3:16Speaker 2: someone got saved, people got saved for sure because the
- 3:19Speaker 2: gospel was just continuing to go out and you know,
- 3:22Speaker 2: it was really cool to see the kids as well,
- 3:24Speaker 2: the response of all the kids, you know, a lot
- 3:26Speaker 2: of like, uh, elementary school age kids all dressed up
- 3:30Speaker 2: in their, you know, costumes and, and whatever, and.
- 3:33Speaker 2: When we were giving the gospel at the platform in
- 3:35Speaker 2: the stage, it was just full of little kids, you know,
- 3:39Speaker 2: so we were able to share the gospel to, to,
- 3:42Speaker 2: to kids, you know, and plant that seed so yeah,
- 3:45Speaker 2: it was, it was really fun.
- 3:47Speaker 1: If you ever run out of, uh, chocolate again, you
- 3:50Speaker 1: can pray maybe Jesus will turn broccoli into chocolate the
- 3:53Speaker 1: same way he turned water into wine, you know, you
- 3:55Speaker 2: never know, yeah, that would be a great miracle because
- 3:57Speaker 2: I like chocolate more than broccoli, so.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Let's make it happen. Lord, Brian, what's new? Haven't seen
- 4:03Speaker 1: you in 23 hours. 23
- 4:05Speaker 2: hours, yeah, um, Tommy, so why did you guys do
- 4:11Speaker 2: the date you did, because, of course, the 31st is still.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Couple days away, yeah, it is so, um, we decided
- 4:18Speaker 2: to do that because, um, the 30, it was just,
- 4:22Speaker 2: it made more sense for us as a church, you know,
- 4:25Speaker 2: to do it we've been doing it Sundays after church, uh,
- 4:30Speaker 2: from 5 to 8 and, and so it just made
- 4:32Speaker 2: more sense for us and our team because a lot
- 4:35Speaker 2: of I think.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Well, what is it? Is the 31st on a Saturday
- 4:39Speaker 2: this year? Yeah, it's on a Saturday. So I, I,
- 4:41Speaker 2: I remember we decided, you know what, we don't wanna
- 4:43Speaker 2: do a Saturday and then a full day Sunday less
- 4:45Speaker 2: we're already gonna be here Sunday. And so, uh, it's
- 4:48Speaker 2: been something that we've actually been doing, um, the past
- 4:52Speaker 2: couple of years is like that Sunday before Halloween, you know, um.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it's cool, you know, because I, I, I didn't
- 5:01Speaker 2: realize this, but a lot of other like churches and
- 5:04Speaker 2: parks and, you know, I, I, I believe like the
- 5:06Speaker 2: Santa Ana Police Department did their trunk or treat like
- 5:09Speaker 2: a few days before ours and everything. So yeah, it's
- 5:13Speaker 2: kind of really cool given opportunity for the city to
- 5:16Speaker 2: really enjoy. Yeah, plus I heard what we heard yesterday
- 5:19Speaker 2: from Phil that.
- 5:20Speaker 2: And they had had a big event planned, but they,
- 5:24Speaker 2: I guess they're expecting rain, some pretty serious rain down
- 5:26Speaker 2: in San Diego. So I don't know about the forecast here.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Is it, is it gonna rain?
- 5:30Speaker 1: I haven't looked.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I haven't looked. I
- 5:32Speaker 1: did see,
- 5:33Speaker 2: now I think, you know, yeah, on Saturday it's supposed
- 5:36Speaker 2: to rain Saturday into Sunday morning, yeah.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just curious. I mean, that'll kind of determine
- 5:42Speaker 2: what costume I wear, you know.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Might be Aquaman. It might be Aquaman, I think. There
- 5:48Speaker 2: you go. And if you live down in, uh, you know,
- 5:51Speaker 2: on the Balboa Peninsula or, you know, Long Beach or, uh,
- 5:56Speaker 2: even Sunset Beach, you might get your Aquaman or your, uh,
- 6:01Speaker 2: mermaid thing because isn't that crazy? Like the what the
- 6:04Speaker 2: king tide is just flooding all that whole area right there.
- 6:07Speaker 2: It is wild. I know, yeah, I mean.
- 6:10Speaker 2: You know, it's funny because I've been of course on
- 6:12Speaker 2: the East Coast and you know, you've seen some of
- 6:15Speaker 2: the Instagram pictures and stuff and, and sometimes I'm a
- 6:18Speaker 2: little skeptical because it's like, oh come on, you know,
- 6:21Speaker 2: because they're a king tide and that's 6 ft tide,
- 6:23Speaker 2: it's like there's always been 6 ft tides, but this
- 6:26Speaker 2: unique sort of um
- 6:28Speaker 2: El Nino.
- 6:31Speaker 2: John Kelvin, uh, the, the Calvinist wave, it's coming in
- 6:39Speaker 2: and obliterating everything, but, um, but it's, you know, it's
- 6:42Speaker 2: happening on the East Coast too. Is it really? Yeah, well,
- 6:45Speaker 2: I saw some, uh, footage of Fort Lauderdale. A lot of,
- 6:50Speaker 2: a lot of people walking around. Usually they get a
- 6:51Speaker 2: lot of, uh, uh, hurricanes, and they haven't had that
- 6:55Speaker 2: many hurricanes.
- 6:56Speaker 2: had any. I mean, you know, on that side, yeah,
- 6:59Speaker 2: usually I've already had like 5 or 6. Yes, exactly. Well,
- 7:03Speaker 2: they heard that I was moving there and that I'm
- 7:05Speaker 2: not a big fan of hurricanes, so the Lord just
- 7:08Speaker 2: said we're gonna,
- 7:09Speaker 1: so now South Carolina is gonna get earthquakes.
- 7:11Speaker 2: God's grace, yeah, yeah, earthquakes. Now here's a crazy thing, um,
- 7:16Speaker 2: because you don't think too much of the East Coast
- 7:18Speaker 2: having earthquakes, but
- 7:21Speaker 2: Uh, Charleston, the city of Charleston was wrecked by an
- 7:23Speaker 2: earthquake back in the late 1800s, like knocked the buildings down.
- 7:28Speaker 2: So if you go into Charleston today, you'll see these
- 7:31Speaker 2: old buildings and you'll see that all of them have.
- 7:34Speaker 2: A big, uh, like a bolt, uh, with a big
- 7:38Speaker 2: like a giant screw. Well, it's a rod. When they rebuilt,
- 7:42Speaker 2: they ran these rods all the way through these houses
- 7:45Speaker 2: to protect them from earthquakes, but they did that in
- 7:48Speaker 2: like 18, you know, the late 1800s. So yeah, I
- 7:51Speaker 2: was shocked. It's like, wow, earthquake in South Carolina. OK, hm,
- 7:56Speaker 1: I guess there's
- 7:56Speaker 2: a, what
- 7:57Speaker 1: learn something new every day, earthquake
- 7:58Speaker 2: fault over there, yeah, must be,
- 8:00Speaker 1: yeah.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Not the San Andreas fault.
- 8:03Speaker 1: No, no, for sure. So looking at the forecast for Saturday, yeah,
- 8:07Speaker 1: starting at, uh, 56 o'clock, that's when, as of now, it's,
- 8:12Speaker 2: that's right when the little trick
- 8:13Speaker 1: or treaters, that's when they are, yeah, yeah. So maybe
- 8:15Speaker 1: they'll trick or treat in the daytime or who knows,
- 8:17Speaker 1: just prepared. They might show up on Friday, have the
- 8:20Speaker 1: door open so that in case they show up.
- 8:22Speaker 1: 888-564-6173 is our number. And let's go to the phones now.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Here's Dolores listening to K Wave and Riverside. What's your
- 8:32Speaker 1: question for Brian and Tommy, Dolores?
- 8:36Speaker 1: Thank you for taking my call.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I really, really need prayer for my daughter. It, it
- 8:43Speaker 1: seems like the more I pray, it seems like the
- 8:46Speaker 1: enemy just full force. I don't know if that makes
- 8:50Speaker 1: any sense.
- 8:51Speaker 1: But it seems like the more I pray for her,
- 8:54Speaker 1: she gets more animosity and hate, and she just complains
- 8:58Speaker 1: and blames me for all the wrong that's happened in
- 9:01Speaker 1: her life, and I try and I stay quiet because
- 9:05Speaker 1: the Lord says, just be silent, you know, just I
- 9:09Speaker 1: got this, but it seems like then I noticed that
- 9:12Speaker 1: I start smelling marijuana.
- 9:14Speaker 1: And I'm thinking, OK, now, now I got it, now,
- 9:17Speaker 1: now the enemy's really coming full force at me. So
- 9:21Speaker 1: the Lord put it into my heart for you to
- 9:23Speaker 1: pray for my daughter Laura. She is just, she's, I'm
- 9:28Speaker 1: trying to reach her, but God can only do that.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So I need prayer for her. I don't want to
- 9:34Speaker 1: lose her to the enemy. I don't want her to, yeah,
- 9:38Speaker 1: I need help. How old is your daughter, Dolores?
- 9:41Speaker 1: She's 42. OK, so she lives with you.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Yes, she does, and I don't know any of what
- 9:48Speaker 1: she's going, none of that is here. I used to
- 9:51Speaker 1: talk about her. I say, read the Bible. Now I
- 9:53Speaker 1: ain't going to read the Bible. God, if God's real,
- 9:57Speaker 1: why is all this going on in the world and
- 10:00Speaker 1: she's got so much.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Animosity and everything, and I don't know what's going on
- 10:07Speaker 1: with her heart.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Yeah, Dolores has, has,
- 10:11Speaker 1: you know, you need God. You need Jesus. She just
- 10:15Speaker 1: storms out of the room.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Yeah, Dolores, has your, has, did your daughter at one point, um,
- 10:22Speaker 2: believe in the Lord? Is she, is she backslidden? Is
- 10:24Speaker 2: that what's going on? Or what, what's, you know, her, OK,
- 10:28Speaker 2: so she, she grew up knowing.
- 10:31Speaker 2: She is, so she at one point confessed Jesus as
- 10:34Speaker 2: her Lord and Savior, and now she's just in a
- 10:36Speaker 2: backslidden kind of a state.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I don't know if she confessed to her Lord and
- 10:41Speaker 1: Savior that part. God only knows, but it seems like
- 10:45Speaker 1: because the enemy's got such a grip on her.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Well, I think what you're doing, Dolores, uh, by calling
- 10:53Speaker 2: and asking for prayer is the best thing that that
- 10:56Speaker 2: you can do is not just for you but to
- 10:59Speaker 2: to share with others, you know, um, to, to agree
- 11:02Speaker 2: with you in prayer and intercede for your daughter Laura
- 11:05Speaker 2: that God would, um, capture her life, you know, and
- 11:08Speaker 2: intervene in her life because God is certainly able to
- 11:12Speaker 2: do that even in the midst of, of like rebellion and,
- 11:15Speaker 2: and everything. I, I think of.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Saul of the story of Saul of Tarsus that we
- 11:20Speaker 2: read about in the in the book of Acts in
- 11:22Speaker 2: chapter number 9, he was, you know, he was on
- 11:25Speaker 2: this journey, like on this, this, uh, like personal mission.
- 11:29Speaker 2: He actually thought he was doing some, you know, good
- 11:31Speaker 2: things for God by, by imprisoning and even killing Christians,
- 11:36Speaker 2: people of the way, people who follow Jesus.
- 11:38Speaker 2: And it was on that road where, where God like
- 11:43Speaker 2: had this holy interruption. God, like Jesus invaded his life
- 11:47Speaker 2: in that very moment and revealed, revealed himself to, to Saul,
- 11:52Speaker 2: who became Paul, uh, who wrote, you know, most, uh,
- 11:56Speaker 2: many of, you know, I think over 2/3 of, of
- 11:59Speaker 2: the New Testament, you know, he ended up writing and
- 12:01Speaker 2: so God is definitely able to intervene into your daughter's
- 12:05Speaker 2: life and.
- 12:06Speaker 2: And I would encourage you to keep on praying and
- 12:08Speaker 2: ask and ask people to, to intercede, um, and to
- 12:12Speaker 2: agree with you in prayer for your daughter Laura.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Brian,
- 12:16Speaker 1: wanna pray?
- 12:17Speaker 2: Uh, yeah, and I would just say, um, because I
- 12:20Speaker 2: was talking to a friend today about, um.
- 12:23Speaker 2: His, his daughter actually and
- 12:25Speaker 2: He was telling me that, you know, it's a bit
- 12:27Speaker 2: of a struggle right now and then, but then he
- 12:29Speaker 2: mentioned another friend and um he mentioned his daughter and
- 12:35Speaker 2: he said an interesting thing. He said that the other
- 12:37Speaker 2: friend was telling him like, man, for like a year
- 12:40Speaker 2: I just totally thought that I'd lost my daughter, you know,
- 12:43Speaker 2: she just seemed distant, disconnected, didn't wanna, you know, even
- 12:49Speaker 2: be close to the family or church.
- 12:52Speaker 2: And, and he, and then he said just, you know,
- 12:54Speaker 2: just suddenly she changed, just boom, just like a light switch,
- 12:58Speaker 2: and she, you know, started following Jesus and everything turned
- 13:02Speaker 2: around and, um, and he didn't do anything except, you know,
- 13:06Speaker 2: just pray during that time that God would work so
- 13:09Speaker 2: I think that is and you know there's those times
- 13:12Speaker 2: where that's really.
- 13:13Speaker 2: You don't wanna say that's all you can do because prayer, uh,
- 13:16Speaker 2: prayer is way more powerful than we give it credit
- 13:19Speaker 2: for a lot of times. But, but, you know, you
- 13:21Speaker 2: can't talk to them. You can't reason with them. You
- 13:24Speaker 2: can't force them to do the right thing. So you
- 13:29Speaker 2: do have to pray. And that was, that was my,
- 13:31Speaker 2: that was my experience, you know, uh, Dolores, and, and
- 13:34Speaker 2: that my experience was for many years I was, you know, Brian,
- 13:38Speaker 2: you know this, I, I was a, a drug addict,
- 13:40Speaker 2: you know, in and out of prison.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Uh, you know, just chaotic life, you know, for 15 years,
- 13:47Speaker 2: you know, um, from the time I was a, a
- 13:49Speaker 2: teenager up until I was 29 years old, and, um,
- 13:53Speaker 2: it was my wife who got saved and she started
- 13:56Speaker 2: praying and, as a matter of fact, I.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Kind of when we look back at this timeline is
- 14:01Speaker 2: the moment she got saved and started praying and things
- 14:05Speaker 2: didn't get better for her, you know, my life actually
- 14:08Speaker 2: I started living, you know, very, uh, rebelliously and, and
- 14:12Speaker 2: wickedly and, you know, very devious in, in my behavior and,
- 14:17Speaker 2: and everything, um, so, you know, it didn't get better
- 14:20Speaker 2: for her. It actually, it, it did get worse and I,
- 14:24Speaker 2: and Diana, my wife, and her, her testimony, she, when
- 14:27Speaker 2: she shares her testimony.
- 14:29Speaker 2: About maybe about 6 months, um, before I got saved,
- 14:33Speaker 2: like when I paroled, came out of prison, um, her
- 14:36Speaker 2: prayer because of my behavior was God, take him out
- 14:40Speaker 2: of my life because I can't handle it or change him,
- 14:43Speaker 2: but I, I just don't know what else to do.
- 14:45Speaker 2: That was her prayer, you know, and for the next
- 14:48Speaker 2: 6 months, you know, um, God was working in my life.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I didn't know it, but there came a point in
- 14:53Speaker 2: time where, where, you know, it just.
- 14:56Speaker 2: That day June 11th of 2000 when I, it, it
- 14:59Speaker 2: things changed, you know, it was a very radical experience
- 15:02Speaker 2: and so, you know, Dolores, I, I get it, you know, um,
- 15:05Speaker 2: well I think my wife would totally understand more from
- 15:07Speaker 2: your standpoint of like things don't seem to be getting better, um,
- 15:11Speaker 2: and sometimes maybe that's when things seem to be getting worse.
- 15:15Speaker 2: God's getting closer to knocking down some barriers, you know,
- 15:19Speaker 2: that's causing your daughter Laura to just be rebellious towards
- 15:23Speaker 2: the things of God. So don't give up, that's for sure.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Isn't it hard to believe that Tommy could ever be
- 15:30Speaker 2: rebellious or, you know, any of those things he described.
- 15:34Speaker 2: He's just the nicest person and pray, praise the Lord.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Praise God. That's all Jesus. It is. It
- 15:41Speaker 1: is all God. We don't want to know BC
- 15:43Speaker 1: Tommy. No, no,
- 15:44Speaker 2: yeah, but we did, we, you know, years ago we
- 15:47Speaker 2: made a film together that kind of talked about, you know,
- 15:50Speaker 2: not just Tommy's life, but a few of the other guys.
- 15:53Speaker 2: And um so we got a little glimpse into that
- 15:55Speaker 2: that previous some of those realities and that God is
- 15:59Speaker 2: able to just deliver people from so don't ever give
- 16:02Speaker 2: up yeah so Father, we pray for uh Dolores just
- 16:06Speaker 2: give her hope, Lord, and maybe even as Tommy shared
- 16:10Speaker 2: his own story a bit, maybe that will encourage her.
- 16:13Speaker 2: We pray that it will and others too that are
- 16:16Speaker 2: listening that are maybe feeling similarly that, you know, everything just.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Seems to be going from bad to worse. And even
- 16:24Speaker 2: though they're praying, nothing's changing. And God, we thank you that, um,
- 16:28Speaker 2: like Tommy said, he didn't even know that you were working.
- 16:32Speaker 2: And then boom, one day you just showed up and
- 16:34Speaker 2: changed everything. So we thank you that you can do
- 16:37Speaker 2: that and do do that. And we pray for Dolores's daughter,
- 16:40Speaker 2: Lourda she, you know, just that description of her, you know,
- 16:44Speaker 2: not wanting to hear anything, getting up and leaving the room,
- 16:47Speaker 2: you didn't care what the Bible says.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Uh, she just seems like a great candidate for like
- 16:51Speaker 2: a Saul of Tarsus experience, Lord, that she would just
- 16:55Speaker 2: meet you on this road. And so we pray that
- 16:59Speaker 2: for her, that you bring her to yourself and that
- 17:01Speaker 2: there would be a great story that would come out
- 17:05Speaker 2: of this, uh, difficult season. So encourage Dolores, give her,
- 17:11Speaker 2: give her hope and give her peace. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Amen. You guys can find out or find this movie.
- 17:20Speaker 1: It's called The Neighborhood Our Side of the Story. It
- 17:22Speaker 1: came out in 2015 and might be streaming online. I
- 17:26Speaker 1: don't know. Uh, I know we had DVDs available years
- 17:30Speaker 1: ago at the chapel.
- 17:31Speaker 2: I believe it's it's available on iTunes. iTunes,
- 17:33Speaker 1: OK, check that out again called The Neighborhood Our Side
- 17:37Speaker 1: of the Story. There's another movie that came out a
- 17:39Speaker 1: few years ago also called The Neighborhood. That's not the
- 17:41Speaker 1: one you want, um, but anyway, thanks you guys for
- 17:45Speaker 1: praying for Dolores.
- 17:47Speaker 1: 888-564-6173 is our number and here is Greg in Huntington Beach.
- 17:52Speaker 1: You are on with Pastors Brian Broderson and Tommy Coda.
- 17:55Speaker 1: What's your question, Greg?
- 17:58Speaker 2: Oh,
- 17:58Speaker 1: hi and thank you
- 17:59Speaker 2: for taking my
- 18:00Speaker 1: call. Um, I, and I,
- 18:02Speaker 2: I wanna be careful because I'm not very articulate and
- 18:04Speaker 2: I don't wanna confuse people, but I have a really
- 18:08Speaker 2: strong belief in Jesus.
- 18:11Speaker 2: And I've had it for, I've had it for my
- 18:14Speaker 2: whole life, and I know that, um, when I think
- 18:18Speaker 2: about them, um, my insides just, they like expand where
- 18:23Speaker 2: I know that there's a God. And I just wonder
- 18:26Speaker 2: if other people,
- 18:27Speaker 2: People with other religions, um, feel that way about their
- 18:31Speaker 2: God because those kind of feelings are what make me
- 18:35Speaker 2: never believe in anything other than Jesus. And if somebody
- 18:39Speaker 2: was to try to pull me towards their religion, that's
- 18:44Speaker 2: what keeps me in my own religion, um, believing in
- 18:47Speaker 2: God and Jesus. And I was just curious if people
- 18:51Speaker 2: that believe in other gods.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Feel that way about their God and how would it
- 18:57Speaker 2: be possible to bring them to Jesus if that were
- 19:00Speaker 2: the case, Brian.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that, that's a, that's a good question. And, and
- 19:06Speaker 2: I think, um.
- 19:10Speaker 2: When you understand other religions outside of the biblical faith
- 19:16Speaker 2: in Jesus, what you begin to realize is that the
- 19:21Speaker 2: idea
- 19:22Speaker 2: Of a personal God that you have a personal experience
- 19:26Speaker 2: with who your experience with Him is is love and
- 19:30Speaker 2: mercy and, you know, compassion and kindness and guidance and provision.
- 19:37Speaker 2: There's no God outside of Jesus, the God in the
- 19:41Speaker 2: Bible like that. So, you know, of course, we can
- 19:45Speaker 2: talk about Islam for a moment. So you know, Islam,
- 19:47Speaker 2: you have Allah is God in Islam.
- 19:52Speaker 2: But what Allah is not is he's not accessible to
- 19:57Speaker 2: the average Muslim. It's not like the average Muslim just goes, oh,
- 20:00Speaker 2: I just love Allah. I just have such a deep
- 20:03Speaker 2: relationship with him. Oh, I just experience his love and
- 20:05Speaker 2: his peace and joy. That's not even an option. It's
- 20:08Speaker 2: not even offered in the context of what Islam is.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Islam is submission. You just, you submit to the rules
- 20:15Speaker 2: and basically, you know, hope for the best.
- 20:18Speaker 2: And um so there's when you do find, and you
- 20:22Speaker 2: do find occasionally some, you know, Muslim people who will
- 20:25Speaker 2: talk more like kind of personally about God, but it's,
- 20:30Speaker 2: it's really fascinating that a lot of that is borrowed
- 20:32Speaker 2: from Christianity. A lot of it is borrowed from Christian
- 20:35Speaker 2: testimonies even, you know.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Um, so, so, OK, so there's Islam. Uh, in Judaism,
- 20:42Speaker 2: you have a similar thing, you know, Judaism's a little
- 20:44Speaker 2: bit different, but the average Jewish person doesn't think in
- 20:47Speaker 2: terms of, um, you know, a personal relationship with God.
- 20:51Speaker 2: They think of a collective relationship with God. You know,
- 20:53Speaker 2: we're part of this collective, we're we're Jews and we're
- 20:56Speaker 2: people of God, but it's not like God is intimately
- 21:02Speaker 2: associated with their lives. I mean, there there are some
- 21:04Speaker 2: Jews who think that way, but mostly they don't.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Um, because again, the presentation of the message of Judaism
- 21:11Speaker 2: or the message of Islam, uh, or, you know, Hinduism
- 21:14Speaker 2: is a whole another story because it's a multiplicity of
- 21:17Speaker 2: gods and then of course Buddhism is really not even
- 21:20Speaker 2: a a theistic religion. Uh, so, but the point is,
- 21:26Speaker 2: what we have in the gospels, you know, Jesus says, um,
- 21:31Speaker 2: I thank you, you know, he's he's praying to the Father.
- 21:34Speaker 2: He says that you have given.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Me authority over all humanity and um.
- 21:42Speaker 2: You know that I may give eternal life to as
- 21:44Speaker 2: many as you've given me, and this is eternal life
- 21:48Speaker 2: that they might know you, the only true God and
- 21:52Speaker 2: Jesus Christ whom you have sent. So this, this idea
- 21:54Speaker 2: of a, of an experiential knowledge of God is exclusively Christian.
- 22:00Speaker 2: So that's, I think, you know, when you're thinking about this, Greg,
- 22:04Speaker 2: you're describing what you have, that's not just based on
- 22:08Speaker 2: feelings or you, you know, you think Jesus is probably
- 22:11Speaker 2: a good idea. But the other factor with Jesus is
- 22:14Speaker 2: he's a historical figure and our, our faith in him
- 22:18Speaker 2: is based upon objective, um.
- 22:22Speaker 2: The objective objective activity of God. So God did this
- 22:27Speaker 2: in history, and he proved that he did this in
- 22:30Speaker 2: history by his miracles, most extraordinarily by his resurrection from
- 22:35Speaker 2: the dead and things like that. So.
- 22:38Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Greg, does this help you?
- 22:42Speaker 1: Yeah,
- 22:42Speaker 2: well, thank you.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I just, I'm just,
- 22:44Speaker 2: I just know I'm very lucky to feel the way
- 22:46Speaker 2: I feel.
- 22:47Speaker 2: And I thank God for that. Thank you guys very much. Thanks, Greg.
- 22:51Speaker 2: You know, and I think that it's also, it's also Greg, the,
- 22:53Speaker 2: the power of the gospel, you know, that's, that's in essence,
- 22:57Speaker 2: that's what the gospel does, you know. It, it, it
- 22:59Speaker 2: brings this relationship that we get, get to now have
- 23:03Speaker 2: with Christ, you know. And so I would encourage you
- 23:06Speaker 2: because I think part of your question was like how
- 23:07Speaker 2: can I share this? How can I live this out?
- 23:10Speaker 2: How can I communicate this, and, and.
- 23:12Speaker 2: I would say, you know, not just by your testimony,
- 23:14Speaker 2: but by sharing the gospel message of Jesus, you know, um,
- 23:18Speaker 2: he who, who, who the sun sets free is free
- 23:20Speaker 2: indeed and you know, just, just look over the, the
- 23:25Speaker 2: gospel messages and, and just what Jesus has done and
- 23:28Speaker 2: the words of Jesus, you know, that you find in
- 23:30Speaker 2: the gospel, specifically I think in the Gospel of John.
- 23:33Speaker 2: You know, uh, uh, you know, there's no, we can't
- 23:36Speaker 2: get to him, right? There's no other way, you know,
- 23:39Speaker 2: Jesus is the only way to the Father, that's what
- 23:42Speaker 2: he tells us, you know, in, in the Gospel of
- 23:44Speaker 2: John chapter 14. So I think it's just sharing these things,
- 23:47Speaker 2: knowing these things, and keep communicating the power of the
- 23:51Speaker 2: gospel because that's what changes people's lives, uh, is, is
- 23:54Speaker 2: the power of the gospel. Yeah, and like, like you, you,
- 23:57Speaker 2: you said, um.
- 23:59Speaker 2: The, the difference in all of those really is simply
- 24:02Speaker 2: that we have a living savior. He's a person who's alive.
- 24:06Speaker 2: So it's not just like it's not a philosophical idea.
- 24:10Speaker 2: It's not something that happened with some human a long
- 24:14Speaker 2: time ago that we're looking back and saying, well, yeah,
- 24:17Speaker 2: you know, like, like a Moses, for example, you know, like, no,
- 24:20Speaker 2: Jesus is the reason you feel things is because Jesus
- 24:25Speaker 2: is real. He's alive and he comes he comes into
- 24:29Speaker 2: your life and he, um, you know, as he said in, uh, Revelation.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Uh, he sups with us, which is a word for supper,
- 24:38Speaker 2: which means he has fellowship, relationship, relationship.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Greg, thanks for calling 888-564-6173. Now here's Sarah in Rancho Cucamonga.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Thank you, Sarah, for calling into Pastor's Perspective today. You're
- 24:53Speaker 1: on with Brian Broderson and Tommy Coda.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Hi, thank you for having me. I really appreciate it. Yeah,
- 25:00Speaker 1: thanks for calling.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Well, I'm calling because uh my family and I are
- 25:08Speaker 1: going through the hardest, the hardest time that we've ever
- 25:12Speaker 1: been through together and it's just
- 25:16Speaker 1: I, I, I don't know what to do. I, I
- 25:19Speaker 1: wanna turn to God. Um, I want, I need Jesus
- 25:23Speaker 1: so much right now. My, we have, um, I have
- 25:27Speaker 1: an 11 year old son and, uh, a 9 month
- 25:31Speaker 1: old baby, and I know this is a lot to
- 25:34Speaker 1: say at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, but my, I
- 25:37Speaker 1: caught my husband having an affair a couple of months
- 25:41Speaker 1: ago and uh it's really torn our family.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Apart really bad, but thank God, thank you Jesus, that
- 25:49Speaker 1: my husband is saying it's, you know, it was the
- 25:53Speaker 1: biggest mistake. He wants to be with me for the
- 25:57Speaker 1: rest of our lives and work on our family, but
- 25:59Speaker 1: it's so hard for me to forgive him, and I'm
- 26:03Speaker 1: still in the thick of it because it was, it's
- 26:06Speaker 1: so fresh and it hurts so much every day. I
- 26:11Speaker 1: sometimes I can't even
- 26:13Speaker 1: Focus and think about anything else and I just, I'm
- 26:17Speaker 1: suffering sometimes from it and I think, should I leave?
- 26:20Speaker 1: What does, what does God want me to do? Um, what,
- 26:25Speaker 1: you know, where, what does the Bible say about dealing
- 26:28Speaker 1: with something like this? I never thought I would experience
- 26:33Speaker 1: this in my life. I, I love my husband so
- 26:36Speaker 1: much and odd oddly enough,
- 26:41Speaker 1: I, I feel like I love him more and because
- 26:45Speaker 1: it hurts so much and I realized I, I wish
- 26:48Speaker 1: he wouldn't have done that. I, I don't want to
- 26:50Speaker 1: be without him, but it hurts. I'm just struggling. Are
- 26:55Speaker 1: you guys doing any kind of marriage counseling or anything?
- 26:59Speaker 1: Not yet. I've, um, I've asked him to, but I haven't.
- 27:05Speaker 1: I've been very scattered and all over the place with
- 27:08Speaker 1: the kids and, and trying to figure everything out, so
- 27:11Speaker 1: I just, I haven't pushed it further, but I, I
- 27:15Speaker 1: think that's necessary or even just for you yourself. But Tommy,
- 27:20Speaker 1: what would you say to
- 27:21Speaker 2: Sarah? Yeah, first of all, Sarah, I'm, I'm so sorry
- 27:23Speaker 2: that you and your family, your children, um, are having
- 27:27Speaker 2: to deal with this. This is a very heavy, heavy thing, and,
- 27:30Speaker 2: and
- 27:31Speaker 2: You know, I, I, there's, there's a whole lot, you know,
- 27:34Speaker 2: like probably a lot, a lot of questions that I
- 27:36Speaker 2: would encourage just what, what, uh, what Brian had shared
- 27:39Speaker 2: to maybe seek some counsel. Um, you know, I, and I,
- 27:43Speaker 2: is your, is your husband a Christian? Does he believe
- 27:46Speaker 2: in the Lord?
- 27:49Speaker 1: He does, but he, I think he's 1 ft in,
- 27:53Speaker 1: 1 ft out because he doesn't wanna let go of
- 27:56Speaker 1: his party life, and he, I mean he has, but
- 28:01Speaker 1: he admitted to me recently that, um.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Yes, he wants to, to be good to me and
- 28:09Speaker 1: our family, but he still wants to go to, um,
- 28:12Speaker 1: like festivals, like music festivals where, you know, that type
- 28:17Speaker 1: of atmosphere is, is not somewhere I don't think a
- 28:21Speaker 1: Christian should be. Him and I, before we became, before
- 28:25Speaker 1: I became a born again Christian, I used to go
- 28:27Speaker 1: to those festivals with
- 28:29Speaker 1: him.
- 28:29Speaker 2: So you know what they're, you know what they're like and,
- 28:32Speaker 2: and everything. It's just a big giant party scene.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you know, Sarah, I, I think, you know, again, I,
- 28:37Speaker 2: I am very sorry that you're going through all these
- 28:39Speaker 2: things and I would very much recommend, you know, you,
- 28:43Speaker 2: you know, if not with your husband, but you really
- 28:46Speaker 2: connect with your, with your local church, the church that
- 28:49Speaker 2: you go to, um, and, and share, you know, just
- 28:53Speaker 2: let your pastor know, you know, what is, is going
- 28:56Speaker 2: on because.
- 28:58Speaker 2: You know, there is God is able to heal. God
- 29:01Speaker 2: is able to redeem and restore these things, but it's
- 29:04Speaker 2: gonna take a work of the Holy Spirit. Obviously it's
- 29:07Speaker 2: not a work of man and and when that happens,
- 29:10Speaker 2: that means there's there's forgiveness, there's confession, there's true repentance,
- 29:15Speaker 2: and those things don't happen overnight. There is.
- 29:19Speaker 2: You know, there's time that goes by and, and God
- 29:22Speaker 2: reveals the heart, you know, God will reveal the heart,
- 29:25Speaker 2: you know, his heart to you and, and.
- 29:28Speaker 2: And also reveal some things to you, you know, about
- 29:31Speaker 2: yourself perhaps that you can bring into the marriage and
- 29:34Speaker 2: for it to be restored and all that stuff. So
- 29:36Speaker 2: God is truly able to do these things, but I
- 29:39Speaker 2: would really recommend that you get some spiritual counsel in
- 29:42Speaker 2: all of this. Yeah,
- 29:43Speaker 1: we've got to take a break now, but Sarah, stay
- 29:45Speaker 1: on the line and we'll continue our conversation with you
- 29:48Speaker 1: and the phone lines are open for the next 30 minutes.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Call in 888-564-6173 is the number to call. That's 888-564-6173.
- 30:16Speaker 1: All right, we're back on Pastor's Perspective. 888-564-6173 is the
- 30:21Speaker 1: number to call. We've got Pastors Brian Broderson and Tommy
- 30:24Speaker 1: Coda here answering your questions, and we were just speaking
- 30:27Speaker 1: with Sarah, who called. She's asking for advice on what
- 30:32Speaker 1: to do about her marriage. Found out that her husband
- 30:35Speaker 1: was having an affair. I guess your husband was having
- 30:37Speaker 1: an affair during the time you were pregnant because you
- 30:40Speaker 1: said you have a nine month old baby, right?
- 30:46Speaker 1: Sarah, are you there?
- 30:48Speaker 1: Did you press mute on your phone? I'm so sorry
- 30:51Speaker 1: that my phone was on mute. I apologize. I knew it.
- 30:54Speaker 1: That's always what it is.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Yeah, so you're correct, um, his affair was happening, uh,
- 31:02Speaker 1: during the time that I was, well, right before I
- 31:05Speaker 1: was pregnant, while I was pregnant, and, um, during my, um, recovery,
- 31:11Speaker 1: and
- 31:12Speaker 1: Yeah, so that makes it hurt even more and um I,
- 31:17Speaker 1: I just
- 31:19Speaker 1: Some days it's just so difficult. I don't know how
- 31:21Speaker 1: to deal.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Yeah, well, it, it, you know, stuff like this takes
- 31:25Speaker 2: a long time and it's, and it, of course it.
- 31:28Speaker 2: is only going to heal if there is a genuine,
- 31:34Speaker 1: um,
- 31:35Speaker 2: repentance on his part. I'm, I'm curious, Sarah, did, how
- 31:40Speaker 2: did you find out about this? Did he confess it
- 31:43Speaker 2: to you? Did it get exposed some other way?
- 31:47Speaker 2: Uh, how is it that
- 31:48Speaker 1: you know?
- 31:51Speaker 1: I wish that he had confessed it to me, um,
- 31:55Speaker 1: but he didn't. I had, uh, he came home from, well,
- 31:59Speaker 1: it was supposed to be work at about
- 32:02Speaker 1: 2 in the morning and was acting a little strange
- 32:06Speaker 1: and then when I woke up to take our oldest
- 32:07Speaker 1: son to school at 6 o'clock I had a feeling
- 32:11Speaker 1: to look at his phone and I did and I
- 32:14Speaker 1: saw a message from the other woman thanking, thanking him
- 32:18Speaker 1: for that night and so I decided to speak with
- 32:22Speaker 1: her and I messaged her and that's pretty much how
- 32:26Speaker 1: it all started and so I
- 32:28Speaker 1: She admitted to me um what was going on. They've
- 32:32Speaker 1: been doing it for almost 2 years and
- 32:36Speaker 1: Then I, I told him after I took my son
- 32:39Speaker 1: to school that I read the messages and he denied
- 32:43Speaker 1: it up until he realized there was no denying it anymore.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Then he admitted it to me and it's been a
- 32:49Speaker 1: very
- 32:50Speaker 1: Long process of trying to get information out and um
- 32:55Speaker 1: it's all out in the open, but uh something I've
- 32:58Speaker 1: also been concerned about is I think she might possibly
- 33:02Speaker 1: be pregnant. So um that also is like a
- 33:07Speaker 1: Big, a big kick to my heart.
- 33:11Speaker 2: So, well, that, that makes a, that makes a huge
- 33:14Speaker 2: difference of, you know, just finding out that way rather than, um,
- 33:19Speaker 2: confessing it.
- 33:21Speaker 2: I, you know, and, and like you said, I mean,
- 33:24Speaker 2: you know, you started off by saying he had an affair, but,
- 33:27Speaker 2: you know, thankfully he wants to stay together and, and
- 33:30Speaker 2: work through it. But does he really? and is he really, um,
- 33:35Speaker 2: you know, willing to take the steps, and I think
- 33:37Speaker 2: when he's saying things like, yeah, but I, I still wanna,
- 33:40Speaker 2: you know, go to my parties and I wanna.
- 33:42Speaker 2: You know, that doesn't sound to me like a person
- 33:44Speaker 2: who really wants to see a change in their situation.
- 33:48Speaker 2: So
- 33:49Speaker 1: is he just afraid of having to pay you alimony
- 33:52Speaker 1: and pay child support and all that other stuff?
- 33:55Speaker 1: That's what I was wondering too, but he has
- 34:00Speaker 1: He told me, um, a few times that he hates
- 34:04Speaker 1: seeing me hurt and he's, he hates that he hurt
- 34:07Speaker 1: me so much and he was being selfish and he
- 34:11Speaker 1: just wanted something on the side and, and, uh, and he,
- 34:16Speaker 1: he should have cut it off a long time ago and,
- 34:19Speaker 1: you know, things like that and, and he said um
- 34:22Speaker 1: he wants to grow old with me and make me happy,
- 34:26Speaker 1: but it scares me. I
- 34:28Speaker 1: I told him, you know, these are just things that
- 34:31Speaker 1: you're saying, but it's going to require you to take action,
- 34:35Speaker 1: some sort of action for me to see you making
- 34:39Speaker 1: a
- 34:39Speaker 1: change.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. I mean, you know, he could sweet talk
- 34:42Speaker 2: you all day with that stuff, and it doesn't necessarily
- 34:45Speaker 2: mean anything. It's only going to mean something if you
- 34:47Speaker 2: see that there really is change, which obviously the first
- 34:51Speaker 2: thing is that he's completely disassociated from this woman.
- 34:55Speaker 2: And from other women too. So, uh, and I, I
- 34:58Speaker 2: just want to say this too, you know, you're from
- 35:01Speaker 2: a biblical standpoint, you are free to make the decision
- 35:05Speaker 2: that you feel is best for you. So there's nothing
- 35:07Speaker 2: in the Bible that binds you to
- 35:10Speaker 2: You know, well, I have to stay in this marriage. Um,
- 35:12Speaker 2: so I'm not saying to get out of it, but
- 35:15Speaker 2: I'm just saying don't, don't think that that isn't a
- 35:17Speaker 2: possibility or that if, if you decided to do that,
- 35:21Speaker 2: that you would somehow be, you know, falling out with
- 35:24Speaker 2: God or displeasing God, you know, that's a lot of times,
- 35:27Speaker 2: you know, especially with, I, I think with women, more,
- 35:30Speaker 2: more sense, uh, more women have this kind of a
- 35:34Speaker 2: feeling like, you know, husband has been doing this, been
- 35:37Speaker 2: cheating and behaving this way, but
- 35:40Speaker 2: I can't divorce him because that's, you know, it's going
- 35:43Speaker 2: to break God's heart or I'm going to be sinning
- 35:44Speaker 2: against God. And, and that's not the case, you know,
- 35:47Speaker 2: from a bib biblical standpoint, that's not the case for you, Sarah,
- 35:51Speaker 2: you know, and, um, you know, it is, it is
- 35:53Speaker 2: hard just, just to hear what you're going through, you know, uh,
- 35:56Speaker 2: it sounds like he's very sorrowful for the consequences, you know,
- 36:00Speaker 2: rather than, um, you really being upfront, you know, um, so.
- 36:04Speaker 2: I would encourage you, Sarah, for, for you and, and
- 36:06Speaker 2: if he's willing to get some, you know, biblical counsel and,
- 36:10Speaker 2: and really have this discussion about confessing and repenting and
- 36:14Speaker 2: healing and and redeeming and really allowing the Lord and,
- 36:18Speaker 2: you know, just a life transformation where there's no other
- 36:21Speaker 2: desire to go out, but just really to be the
- 36:24Speaker 2: husband that God wants him to be.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Um, to really seek that counsel, whether he wants to
- 36:29Speaker 2: join you or not. I think even if it's just
- 36:31Speaker 2: going to be you, I, I would encourage you with
- 36:33Speaker 2: your local church and your pastor that, you know, that
- 36:36Speaker 2: you have, you know, prayfully you have, you know, a
- 36:38Speaker 2: local church that you have a relationship with, you know, um,
- 36:41Speaker 2: that you can connect with so that.
- 36:43Speaker 2: You can get the good biblical insight from, uh, you know,
- 36:47Speaker 2: a faith community that you're a part of to help
- 36:50Speaker 2: you with this journey because this is a very hard
- 36:52Speaker 2: thing to deal with, you know, over a phone call
- 36:54Speaker 2: like this. Yeah, absolutely, yeah,
- 36:56Speaker 1: yeah.
- 36:57Speaker 1: There's a radio program that airs here on KWave on
- 36:59Speaker 1: the weekends on our AM station. It's called New Life Live, and, uh,
- 37:04Speaker 1: that ministry has a, uh, program. They have one coming
- 37:08Speaker 1: up in a couple of weeks. In fact, it's called
- 37:09Speaker 1: Restore Healing After Betrayal. It's just for women who have
- 37:15Speaker 1: been through something like this, and the next one is
- 37:17Speaker 1: happening in Washington DC. It begins in a couple of weeks.
- 37:20Speaker 1: You can find out more about it online at newlife.com/restore.
- 37:25Speaker 1: But uh Sarah, we're gonna be praying for you. Everybody
- 37:27Speaker 1: watching and listening is gonna be praying for you as well.
- 37:30Speaker 1: In fact, Brian, would you pray
- 37:31Speaker 2: for her? Yeah, we happily, Lord, we pray for Sarah
- 37:34Speaker 2: and our hearts break over this story and we just
- 37:39Speaker 2: pray that you would just somehow meet her where she's at,
- 37:44Speaker 2: that you would comfort her, and that you would give
- 37:47Speaker 2: her wisdom, Lord, on what the future does look like.
- 37:51Speaker 2: And we pray for her husband that he would really turn.
- 37:55Speaker 2: Away from sin and turn away from self that he
- 37:59Speaker 2: would turn to you, Lord, and we know, you know, yeah,
- 38:02Speaker 2: he feels bad about it right now, but there needs
- 38:06Speaker 2: to be more than just feeling bad about it. There
- 38:08Speaker 2: needs to be change and Lord, so we pray for
- 38:12Speaker 2: deep conviction. We pray for the conviction of the Holy
- 38:15Speaker 2: Spirit to bring him to.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Uh, a place of repenting, turning away from sin and
- 38:22Speaker 2: turning to you. And because Lord, we know that his,
- 38:26Speaker 2: you know, even his best intentions are, are not gonna
- 38:29Speaker 2: be sufficient for, uh, what, what the need is ahead. So,
- 38:34Speaker 2: but for Sarah too, as she daily, like she said,
- 38:37Speaker 2: you know, just the thoughts come to her mind and
- 38:40Speaker 2: she struggles with that and.
- 38:41Speaker 2: That's totally understandable. We, we pray that you would shield
- 38:44Speaker 2: her and, um, just watch over her and, um, we
- 38:49Speaker 2: pray that you would bless her. Jesus' name. Amen.
- 38:52Speaker 1: Amen. 888-564-6173. Let's talk to Isaiah in Whittier. Hi Isaiah,
- 39:00Speaker 1: thanks for downloading the Kwave app. Thanks for calling in today.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Hey, how's it going, guys?
- 39:05Speaker 1: Good. I had a question. Um, what's the best way
- 39:10Speaker 1: to defend the faith, um, in a non-combative way, um,
- 39:17Speaker 1: and just for a little bit of context, um,
- 39:20Speaker 2: I
- 39:20Speaker 1: kind of
- 39:20Speaker 2: bumped
- 39:21Speaker 1: into some Jehovah Witnesses,
- 39:23Speaker 2: and they were speaking to me and I was speaking
- 39:25Speaker 2: to them, and, uh, a scripture I had mentioned was, well,
- 39:28Speaker 2: why did Thomas call Jesus my God and my Lord?
- 39:33Speaker 2: But that was as far as I can go, um,
- 39:36Speaker 2: comfortably and from my memory, so I just was hoping
- 39:39Speaker 2: maybe you guys can give a little bit better.
- 39:42Speaker 2: Um, advice or context on what's the best way to
- 39:46Speaker 2: You know, and talk to people that are either not
- 39:48Speaker 2: of the faith or trying to dispute that this is God.
- 39:52Speaker 2: What, what, what did they say when you said that
- 39:56Speaker 2: to him?
- 39:57Speaker 2: Um, shoot, I have a, sometimes I have a bad memory,
- 40:01Speaker 2: but I, when I was speaking to her, um, and
- 40:04Speaker 2: her husband, they were bringing up like different scriptures from
- 40:07Speaker 2: like the book of John where you say if you
- 40:09Speaker 2: believe in the Father, you believe in the Son, she's like, see,
- 40:12Speaker 2: he's the son, but I'll, I, my response was like,
- 40:16Speaker 2: you know,
- 40:18Speaker 2: Us as humans, why is it that we try to
- 40:20Speaker 2: put God in a box, you know, who, who are
- 40:22Speaker 2: we to say that, you know, God can't become a
- 40:26Speaker 2: human and, and Jesus can't be God either, you know? And, um,
- 40:30Speaker 2: you know, she was just, she was going on her
- 40:31Speaker 2: phone looking up different Bible verses, trying to dispute it,
- 40:35Speaker 2: and then I just asked her, you know, like, well,
- 40:38Speaker 2: why did, why did he say to the Pharisees, um,
- 40:40Speaker 2: before Abraham was, I am, and then they were just kept,
- 40:44Speaker 2: you know, sticking to their, you know.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Yeah, sticking to their, their point. I was like, oh man,
- 40:51Speaker 2: I gotta get better at this. Yeah, well, that, you know, that's,
- 40:54Speaker 2: that's kind of the way they operate. I mean, they,
- 40:55Speaker 2: you know, they have their scriptures that they lock into
- 40:58Speaker 2: and then that's just where they go and they take
- 41:02Speaker 2: refuge in that. And even if you're showing them scriptures
- 41:05Speaker 2: that say something different, they, you know, they, they tend
- 41:09Speaker 2: to hold on. I, I think, you know, there really
- 41:11Speaker 2: is a spiritual blindness there, and that's why they just
- 41:16Speaker 2: can't see.
- 41:17Speaker 2: But the best, the best bet is just what you did.
- 41:21Speaker 2: And I, I think the Gospel of John, I just
- 41:25Speaker 2: read John chapter 18 this morning. So that's I've been
- 41:27Speaker 2: on my journey for the last, I don't know, a
- 41:29Speaker 2: week or whatever, uh, reading through John's Gospel and it's like,
- 41:32Speaker 2: oh my gosh, I mean this, this gospel is just,
- 41:35Speaker 2: it's written. John says that he wrote it, that you
- 41:38Speaker 2: may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God,
- 41:40Speaker 2: and that believing you may have life in his name.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Um, John highlights the divinity of Jesus in.
- 41:49Speaker 2: In more and clearer ways than any of the other
- 41:54Speaker 2: gospel writers. They all do it, but John does it
- 41:57Speaker 2: like in a way where he's just, you know, putting
- 41:59Speaker 2: it out there over and over and over again, beginning
- 42:02Speaker 2: with the very first verse of the Bible.
- 42:04Speaker 2: The very 1st 3 verses in the beginning, I mean,
- 42:07Speaker 2: of the gospel. Uh, you know, in the beginning was
- 42:09Speaker 2: the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word
- 42:11Speaker 2: was God. Now, the New World translation, the Jehovah's Witness
- 42:14Speaker 2: Bible says, uh, in the beginning was the Word and
- 42:16Speaker 2: the Word was with God and the Word was a God. Well,
- 42:19Speaker 2: they just decided to put the A in there because they,
- 42:24Speaker 2: that's that's their theology. There's no basis for it in the,
- 42:27Speaker 2: there's nothing in the Greek text that allows for it
- 42:30Speaker 2: or there's no Greek text in the world that actually
- 42:33Speaker 2: has that in it.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Um, and then, you know, if you go to verse 18,
- 42:38Speaker 2: verse 18 says no one has ever seen God speaking
- 42:41Speaker 2: of the Father, but the one and only Son who
- 42:44Speaker 2: is also Himself God, He has brought him out into
- 42:47Speaker 2: the open. That's the NIV translation of John 1:18. And
- 42:51Speaker 2: I mean, it's like you can't get any clearer than this,
- 42:53Speaker 2: you know, the only, the one and only Son who
- 42:55Speaker 2: is also Himself God. It's like, OK, well, but.
- 43:00Speaker 2: Again, you know, with Jehovah's Witnesses, and I've been to
- 43:03Speaker 2: Kingdom Hall. I've sat in the Kingdom Hall and debated
- 43:07Speaker 2: with the elders and everything, and
- 43:09Speaker 2: I mean, sometimes it's, it's just unbelievable the, the tenacity
- 43:14Speaker 2: with which they will hold on to the deception. And it,
- 43:17Speaker 2: it is, I, I think it is a spiritual stronghold,
- 43:20Speaker 2: you know, they're just, uh, the, the enemy has truly
- 43:23Speaker 2: blinded them and they are very, I think when they go,
- 43:26Speaker 2: you know, house to house, you know, I, you always
- 43:28Speaker 2: see them early in the morning on Saturdays, right down
- 43:30Speaker 2: the street, you know, and it's like, all right, I'm,
- 43:32Speaker 2: I'm getting ready, they're gonna come.
- 43:33Speaker 2: My house, I think they came to my house twice
- 43:35Speaker 2: and so now they skip my house, you know, I, but,
- 43:39Speaker 2: but the thing is, is like they come, you know,
- 43:41Speaker 2: they come rehearsed. They have, they have like a, a
- 43:45Speaker 2: pocket full of, of, you know, verses to from their
- 43:50Speaker 2: translation and, and, in anticipation of engaging, you know, like
- 43:55Speaker 2: a debate with Christians.
- 43:57Speaker 2: You know, who will say, well, you know, when you
- 44:00Speaker 2: go to these doors they're probably gonna ask you about
- 44:01Speaker 2: this verse, and when they do bring up this, this
- 44:04Speaker 2: and this and say it like this, you know, and, uh, and,
- 44:07Speaker 2: and they always have someone like, you know, kind of like, uh,
- 44:10Speaker 2: an elder that might be with them that, you know, if, um,
- 44:14Speaker 2: for whatever reason.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Uh, they're having a challenge, then the elder will come
- 44:18Speaker 2: and step in and, and usually when that happens, the
- 44:22Speaker 2: conversation gets shut down very quickly and here you want
- 44:24Speaker 2: to take this magazine or not, you know, and, uh,
- 44:27Speaker 2: they move on to the next house, but.
- 44:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it, it is. I think the best thing, Isaiah,
- 44:31Speaker 2: you know, what, what you did is, is, you know,
- 44:33Speaker 2: sharing the word of God and, and, you know, ask,
- 44:35Speaker 2: bringing up these questions because a lot of times, you know, like,
- 44:38Speaker 2: like when you brought up the question to them about,
- 44:41Speaker 2: you know, when Jesus said, I, you know, before Abraham was,
- 44:44Speaker 2: I am, you know, that's, that's a very, there you go.
- 44:48Speaker 2: So now what do you say? And a lot of
- 44:50Speaker 2: times I, I, I wanna believe that a lot of these, um.
- 44:55Speaker 2: People like say with Jehovah's Witness, they'll they'll go home
- 44:58Speaker 2: and maybe begin to wrestle with that question that you
- 45:02Speaker 2: had asked them.
- 45:03Speaker 2: And prayerfully it'll cause them to dig a little deeper.
- 45:07Speaker 2: I've actually come in contact with, and I even think
- 45:10Speaker 2: there's probably a couple of people at our church that
- 45:12Speaker 2: at one point were, you know, looking or we're going
- 45:15Speaker 2: to Jehovah Witness, we're, we're going to Kingdom Hall and had,
- 45:19Speaker 2: you know, some of these thoughts planted in their hearts
- 45:22Speaker 2: and in their minds, you know, and so now, you know,
- 45:24Speaker 2: now because of wrestling with some of these questions, they've
- 45:28Speaker 2: they've come to full faith in Christ Jesus and so.
- 45:30Speaker 2: I think those are great ways to do that and
- 45:33Speaker 2: just keep asking these questions, kind of reverse it, you know,
- 45:36Speaker 2: with them and ask them to think about some of
- 45:39Speaker 2: the passages in the gospels. Yeah, here, here's a great one. I, this,
- 45:43Speaker 2: I would recommend this is a, this is a good
- 45:46Speaker 2: one just to ask them this question. Isaiah, um,
- 45:50Speaker 2: Isaiah 44:6, the Lord says, um, I am the first
- 45:56Speaker 2: and the last, and it's Yahweh speaking, who of course
- 45:59Speaker 2: they would call Jehovah. Um, so he makes this declaration,
- 46:02Speaker 2: he is the first and the last, the beginning and
- 46:04Speaker 2: the end, and so forth. Um, when you go to
- 46:07Speaker 2: Revelation 1:17, Jesus says, I am the first and the last,
- 46:13Speaker 2: and then just so we know who's talking, he says,
- 46:15Speaker 2: I am the one who was dead.
- 46:17Speaker 2: And behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the
- 46:20Speaker 2: keys of hell and death. So it's crystal clear Jesus
- 46:23Speaker 2: is the one talking. He says, I'm the first and
- 46:25Speaker 2: the last. So which is it? Well, could it be
- 46:30Speaker 2: that we have the same person talking here? See, that's
- 46:33Speaker 2: when they give you the magazine and they, and you know,
- 46:38Speaker 2: the problem is, of course, they, they can't envision.
- 46:43Speaker 2: This idea, you know, that there is a tri-unity within
- 46:47Speaker 2: the nature of God. So, you know, um, they, they
- 46:52Speaker 2: just think of a singular person can't be two or three.
- 46:57Speaker 2: It's just a singular person. So it's, it's just there
- 47:01Speaker 2: and you know, the, the, the idea of the Trinity is,
- 47:04Speaker 2: is a little bit hard to get your head around,
- 47:06Speaker 2: but
- 47:07Speaker 2: It's stated in scripture, so it's not necessary to fully
- 47:11Speaker 2: comprehend it. It's what's necessary is to believe what it says,
- 47:16Speaker 2: and there's, there's evidence everywhere that Jesus is, He is
- 47:20Speaker 2: the first and the last. He is God in the flesh.
- 47:24Speaker 1: Isaiah, thanks for calling
- 47:25Speaker 2: us
- 47:25Speaker 1: today. And now we'll talk to Laura in Upland listening
- 47:28Speaker 1: to Kwave. What's your question for us, Laura?
- 47:32Speaker 1: Hi there. Um, well, first I want to thank Tommy
- 47:35Speaker 1: for praying for me weeks ago. It happened the very
- 47:37Speaker 1: next day, so things were cleared up.
- 47:40Speaker 1: And then I also prayed today about something and it
- 47:42Speaker 1: happened right away this morning. And so, but I want
- 47:45Speaker 1: to know about the knowledge back in Genesis with Adam
- 47:48Speaker 1: and Eve before.
- 47:51Speaker 1: They sinned. God said, you know, don't eat from this
- 47:55Speaker 1: tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and then
- 47:59Speaker 1: there's the tree of life. And then, so if they
- 48:02Speaker 1: didn't have any knowledge because they were naked and unashamed,
- 48:05Speaker 1: and they were unknowing, all they had to go on
- 48:07Speaker 1: was just listen to God, which is good, you know, obedience.
- 48:12Speaker 1: How would they know when the serpent came to him,
- 48:14Speaker 1: whether the serpent was lying to him or not? How
- 48:17Speaker 1: would they know anything because they didn't know anything.
- 48:21Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I, I, they, they knew enough from what
- 48:24Speaker 2: God had shared with them because God is the one
- 48:26Speaker 2: who said, you know, do not eat of the tree
- 48:30Speaker 2: of the knowledge of good and evil there because in
- 48:32Speaker 2: the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die.
- 48:35Speaker 2: And so there was an understanding for, for, for Adam,
- 48:38Speaker 2: you know, to, when he received that, like this is,
- 48:42Speaker 2: you know, in a sense, this is, if I eat
- 48:45Speaker 2: of this fruit, this is in complete rebellion and disobedience,
- 48:48Speaker 2: you know, to what the Lord had said.
- 48:51Speaker 2: You know, so, um, and that's, that's what they had,
- 48:54Speaker 2: you know, that's what they had to go off of.
- 48:56Speaker 2: And because of the temptation of the devil, uh, tempting Eve,
- 49:00Speaker 2: and the Bible says she saw the fruit that it
- 49:03Speaker 2: was good, you know, good to eat, and it was attractive,
- 49:06Speaker 2: and so she ate of it and, you know, and
- 49:08Speaker 2: then she also gave to her husband, and when he ate,
- 49:11Speaker 2: that's when their eyes were opened to their sin and
- 49:13Speaker 2: to their shame, just as what God had said.
- 49:16Speaker 2: You know, that sin would come in. Um, in other words, this, this,
- 49:20Speaker 2: you know, you shall surely die. This, this separation, death
- 49:23Speaker 2: was then entered into mankind, humankind, because of this rebellion. Um,
- 49:29Speaker 2: and so the consequence of that, you know, we're all
- 49:32Speaker 2: dealing with now because of that rebellion towards the Lord.
- 49:38Speaker 1: What do you think, Laura?
- 49:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I, I was thinking that. I mean, we only
- 49:44Speaker 1: know from obedience, so we wouldn't have known anything else.
- 49:47Speaker 1: I mean, our eyes are open now, so we get
- 49:50Speaker 1: it now, but I'm just wondering how we wouldn't have
- 49:54Speaker 1: before just a serpent. The serpent really bothers me. Well,
- 49:57Speaker 2: I think you have to understand that, um, you know,
- 50:01Speaker 2: Genesis is not telling us everything that happened. It's not
- 50:04Speaker 2: giving us all the background, the detail.
- 50:06Speaker 2: So it wasn't like this is all that happened and
- 50:09Speaker 2: this is all God said, and the day you eat
- 50:10Speaker 2: of it, you will, you will die. Um, you'll know
- 50:13Speaker 2: good and evil. And they're like, what does that mean? Die,
- 50:17Speaker 2: good and evil. So, obviously we would have to assume
- 50:20Speaker 2: that they had some knowledge of this. So God must
- 50:24Speaker 2: have instructed them, but the text doesn't tell us that
- 50:26Speaker 2: because the text is focusing on, you know, the event
- 50:29Speaker 2: rather than the background of the event.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Thanks for your phone call today on Pastor's Perspective. And
- 50:34Speaker 1: now here's Alisa in Ontario listening to us on the
- 50:38Speaker 1: KWave app. What's your question for us today, Alisa?
- 50:42Speaker 1: Hi, um, I was just wondering, um, in First Timothy,
- 50:48Speaker 1: it says that women should not be teachers but to
- 50:52Speaker 1: be quietly learning and to be submissive.
- 50:58Speaker 1: And if you have any questions,
- 51:01Speaker 1: Um, to ask the, the, their husband. Um, in recent years,
- 51:07Speaker 1: it's been standing out more to me that women have
- 51:11Speaker 1: been teaching.
- 51:13Speaker 1: But there, there's some that aren't, um, rightly dividing God's word,
- 51:21Speaker 1: and there are, uh, women teachers who are rightly diviating
- 51:27Speaker 1: God's word. How does the scripture pertain to today's versus, um,
- 51:38Speaker 1: And, uh, versus the biblical, uh, days.
- 51:43Speaker 1: And if it's
- 51:45Speaker 1: Worth ending a friendship over and if there's great for
- 51:51Speaker 1: the women teachers. Ending a friendship. So are you friends
- 51:55Speaker 1: with a woman pastor, woman teacher, or is a friend
- 51:58Speaker 1: of yours for or in support of women pastors? What's
- 52:03Speaker 1: the story?
- 52:05Speaker 1: Um, I have a friend that's, uh,
- 52:10Speaker 1: Against, um, women teachers, she's more legal, legalistic, legal, yeah,
- 52:22Speaker 1: I wanna say.
- 52:25Speaker 1: Hm
- 52:27Speaker 1: And
- 52:28Speaker 2: yeah, OK, yeah, this, this is a question that comes up, um,
- 52:32Speaker 2: you know, fairly often these days, and, uh, as a
- 52:35Speaker 2: matter of fact, Tommy and I were on a
- 52:38Speaker 2: Uh, Zoom call the other day with some friends and
- 52:40Speaker 2: we were, we were talking about some of this. So
- 52:42Speaker 2: I think that the, the first thing to understand is
- 52:45Speaker 2: that whatever you believe about that passage, uh, you, you don't,
- 52:51Speaker 2: every Christian doesn't have to believe the exact same thing
- 52:53Speaker 2: about it, and you're, you're still a Christian and you're still,
- 52:56Speaker 2: you know, in the good graces of God. You know,
- 53:00Speaker 2: some people wanna make a, a bigger deal out of
- 53:03Speaker 2: certain issues and, and texts and I think is warranted.
- 53:08Speaker 2: In the scripture. So, the question is, um, what is
- 53:12Speaker 2: happening in 1 Timothy chapter 2, where Paul says, I
- 53:17Speaker 2: do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise
- 53:18Speaker 2: authority over men. So, I think the problem a lot
- 53:21Speaker 2: of times is that you, you know, verse 12 is
- 53:24Speaker 2: the only verse that's read without a consideration of the
- 53:27Speaker 2: previous verses and the verses that follow. And when you
- 53:30Speaker 2: look at the context of the statement and remember that
- 53:33Speaker 2: this was written.
- 53:34Speaker 2: Uh, this wasn't written to us. This was written to, uh, Timothy,
- 53:39Speaker 2: who was leading a church in Ephesus, and there's something
- 53:43Speaker 2: very specific that is happening in that church that Paul
- 53:47Speaker 2: is addressing. And I think if we recognize that Paul
- 53:50Speaker 2: is addressing something very specific, then we realize, OK, it's
- 53:53Speaker 2: not just a random like, hey, we don't want women teaching,
- 53:56Speaker 2: we just want men doing it. Um, there's a reason
- 53:58Speaker 2: why he's saying what he's saying. And it seems to
- 54:00Speaker 2: me
- 54:01Speaker 2: That he's saying what he's saying because there is a
- 54:03Speaker 2: group of women in this congregation who are trying to
- 54:07Speaker 2: sort of like hijack the church. That's what they're doing.
- 54:11Speaker 2: And he's telling Timothy, don't let that happen. And then
- 54:15Speaker 2: he goes on and he explains some things that are
- 54:17Speaker 2: still for even scholars today, they don't know exactly why
- 54:20Speaker 2: Paul said some of the things he said at the end,
- 54:23Speaker 2: he talks about women being saved in childbirth, and he
- 54:26Speaker 2: talks about Eve and
- 54:28Speaker 2: You know, so there's like, OK, why, why is he
- 54:31Speaker 2: saying that? And frankly, we don't know for sure. I
- 54:36Speaker 2: wish he would have just said this is why I'm
- 54:38Speaker 2: saying this for you guys 2000 years ago or 2000
- 54:41Speaker 2: years from now. This is, this is what it would
- 54:43Speaker 2: be extremely extreme.
- 54:45Speaker 2: Extremely, extremely clear. And, you know, I also think that,
- 54:47Speaker 2: you know, this is not, this is not something to
- 54:50Speaker 2: lose a friendship over either. You know, this is not
- 54:53Speaker 2: like an essential thing to where you lose a friendship
- 54:56Speaker 2: over and say, OK, you know what, just because you
- 54:58Speaker 2: believe a certain way or, you know, you're you're, you know,
- 55:01Speaker 2: this is your, you know, this is what you believe. Now,
- 55:05Speaker 2: that's it. I can't be your friend no more. That's not.
- 55:08Speaker 2: I don't think that's the right thing either, you know, um,
- 55:11Speaker 2: and there's, and there's two different positions where, you know,
- 55:15Speaker 2: people are OK with, you know, women being pastors and, and,
- 55:19Speaker 2: or women teaching and communicating because they are gifted, you know,
- 55:23Speaker 2: God does gift people and then there's another group, you know, of,
- 55:27Speaker 2: of people who take the position where, no, a woman
- 55:30Speaker 2: is not allowed to preach and to teach, and I
- 55:32Speaker 2: don't think we, there should be any division over those things,
- 55:35Speaker 2: you know, um, because, you know, friendships matter.
- 55:38Speaker 2: And, and, and so I would encourage you to.
- 55:41Speaker 2: To sew into your friendship.
- 55:43Speaker 2: Amen.
