Transcript
- 0:00Hey, y'.
- 0:01All.
- 0:01You were listening to another episode of the Spiritual Homegirl podcast where we better self in spirit and make peace with the day through wisdom, education, and practical, easy to follow tips.
- 0:09I am your host, Maria, your spiritual homegirl, who's also a mental health professional.
- 0:14And today I want to give some encouragement to those who might be feeling like there's a lot of crowdedness in the things that they want to do in life, whether it's personal hobbies, whether it's professional or entrepreneurial aspirations.
- 0:28As your homegirl who loves you and wants to see you win, I want to remind that similar doesn't always equal same.
- 0:35Sometimes there are people that I talk to that are in similar fields or they are in a field where there's a lot of supposed competition.
- 0:46And the reason why I say supposedly competition is because a lot of times we are taught to look at people as comp.
- 0:54And not as people who are people that we could learn from or collaborate with or just good people that are just doing their thing.
- 1:02They have nothing to do with us.
- 1:04Sometimes we make villains in our.
- 1:06In our stories.
- 1:07And I always say we because I'm never above what I say.
- 1:09Of course, as y' all know, but sometimes we have to have a adversary in order to feel motivated to do things and to be successful.
- 1:19But what if I told you that that adversary that really matters the most is the one within yourself?
- 1:25Your greatest competition is going to be your.
- 1:27You.
- 1:29Somebody could be doing a bunch of stuff and they could be successful or moderately successful or super successful, but that really has nothing to do with you.
- 1:39Unless, of course, it's a caveat, unless they're trying to steal your whole sauce.
- 1:45And even then, similarities, they're not cool when it comes from dishonest places like biting and copying and things like that.
- 1:53But it's never going to be the same.
- 1:56The same way you could give somebody the sauce and it still might not ever taste the same as yours because you have something special and unique about yourself to where no matter how many times people think they can
- 2:07replicate it, it'll never be as good as yours.
- 2:10And I want you to remember that.
- 2:12I also want you to remember that.
- 2:13Again, going back to the adversary within yourself.
- 2:17Embrace your uniqueness.
- 2:18Everybody on this earth is special.
- 2:21And special means they're talented in their own way, they're gifted in their own way.
- 2:25Whether we see it or not, we all have something awesome to add to this world positively.
- 2:30So hone in on what you got going on and stop worrying about what everybody else is doing.
- 2:36Are there people that we could probably work alongside?
- 2:40Yes.
- 2:42Are there people that probably don't want us to succeed?
- 2:44Potentially?
- 2:46Are there people that can smile on our face and act like they're happy for us but really don't want us to win?
- 2:51Or see, secretly wish something negative could happen?
- 2:55Potentially.
- 2:55But why do we worry about that?
- 2:58And we've all been guilty of that, myself included.
- 3:01But at some point we have to stop worrying about other people.
- 3:04Yeah, somebody might do something, but until they come to you directly, who cares?
- 3:08Live your life.
- 3:09Get your peace, get your joy, get your success, get your abundance.
- 3:13Defeat the competition within.
- 3:15Defeat the lack of discipline.
- 3:18Compete against the lack mindset that you might have.
- 3:22Knock that down, destroy that, reframe it, rebuild it.
- 3:28What are we reprogramming our mind to be that's going to help us?
- 3:32How can we actually utilize others in a way where we don't automatically have to have hate as fuel all the time?
- 3:38Now, don't get it twisted.
- 3:39I love transmutation.
- 3:41I love it.
- 3:42That's one of my greatest superpowers.
- 3:43I can transmute the finest of chaos and whatever and make it work in my favor, but I don't go seeking it out to be motivated.
- 3:52And that is the difference.
- 3:54Now, again, like I said, people need that, okay?
- 3:57But it would probably better suit us to look at ourselves too, because we're not all perfect and we all could use a little bit of fine tuning in different areas of how we operate and how we show up,
- 4:10whether it is personally or professionally.
- 4:12So again, I'm employing you just to look at what you got going on before you look to the next person and worry about what they doing, and especially worrying about what they're doing with you.
- 4:19If they're not copying you, they're not copying your intellectual property, then don't mind them.
- 4:24And if they are, shut them all the way down.
- 4:26Y' all know I love me a good IP shutdown.
- 4:30Shut them down, get their pages next, do whatever you got to do.
- 4:33But if that's not happening, let's self examine.
- 4:38What do I do that gets in the way of what I want to be or who I want to be or what I want to do?
- 4:44What type of issues with being consistent do I have?
- 4:48What people do I have around me that actually don't champion me the way I need?
- 4:52And when I say champion, I'm not saying always saying yes to what you got going on, because that's a yes person.
- 4:57And we don't like those.
- 4:58Because sometimes yes people don't keep it real with us like we need them to.
- 5:01But people that are good for your soul and good for where you're going in life, that will always speak life into you and also catch you when you tripping so that you can get back grounded and get back
- 5:11to who you want to be.
- 5:14Who's your village?
- 5:16Are these village folks healthy for you?
- 5:19Do you need to make adjustments?
- 5:21How are you fueling your body?
- 5:23What do you put in your body?
- 5:24Are you powered on foods that aren't the healthiest for you?
- 5:27Are there ways that you could maybe fit other things into your budget or swap things out so that we're fueling ourselves with good foods or foods that can actually help our brain and feel good, mind, body and spirit?
- 5:39Are we sleeping enough?
- 5:40How's our sleep schedule?
- 5:41What sleep schedule are we on?
- 5:43Do we need to make some adjustments?
- 5:46Because sometimes we don't make the best decisions and don't have the clearest of minds because we don't have enough sleep.
- 5:52These things sound very simple, but they're not.
- 5:55Believe it or not, there's a lot of us that running on fumes and burnout is only around the corner when you're on fumes.
- 6:01Think about it like a car.
- 6:03When you have a thing of gas, a tank of gas that's full, you're like, yeah, all right, I got X amount of miles until I'm empty.
- 6:10Now we're on half a tank.
- 6:11You could go to the gas station, but you don't go so much.
- 6:14You're like, I could probably drive another hour, two hours.
- 6:17Next thing you know, you're on quarter tank.
- 6:18You're like, I'll stop at some point.
- 6:20Now you're on the light.
- 6:22The light is telling you, baby, get some gas, or else we're going to be done here.
- 6:26After that, you're 30 miles or 20 miles, 10 miles, 5 miles, 0 miles.
- 6:31Now you are on fumes.
- 6:33Whatever is left in that little gas tank is.
- 6:35And I say little because that's really a little amount you.
- 6:39You getting by.
- 6:39And at some point the car is going to stop.
- 6:41So we have to look at how do we fuel what we got going on, and also who's in the car with us.
- 6:49It's very important.
- 6:50Before we start looking at what lane everybody else in, let's just focus on what we got going on.
- 6:55And again, like I said, there's nothing wrong with transmuting the negativity you get, but it's a difference with seeking it out.
- 7:01And so I'm going to always maintain that.
- 7:03Please don't seek that out.
- 7:04Remember that you're special.
- 7:06Remember that you're unique.
- 7:07Remember that you're talented and gifted in your own way.
- 7:10And that sometimes the biggest competition, most times I would say that we don't like to admit is ourselves and we have things within ourselves that we need fixing before we start looking and pointing fingers at everybody else.
- 7:21Who cares what they got going on, do you?
- 7:24If I spent my time worrying about all the other homegirls that popped up or worrying about other spiritual or self development or mental health podcasts or platforms that were coming out, I would never have gotten to 10 years.
- 7:39I would have never gotten to 600 episodes.
- 7:41I would have never been able to go back to school.
- 7:43I would have never been able to do a cross country move twice.
- 7:47I would have never been able to impact as many people as I have.
- 7:50And I never.
- 7:50I would not have been able to grow the way I wanted to grow and be so much better.
- 7:57Not better than them, but better than who I was when I started, better than who I was in 2018-2020-2021-2024, 2025.
- 8:07Like I'm in such a better place.
- 8:09Growth, focusing on growth has helped me so much in destroying the competition within has been more beneficial than worrying about anybody else that has some type of motion or trying to get some motion for themselves.
- 8:23So stick to your emotion and keep on.
- 8:27Homegirl got your back, but keep going.
- 8:29Sometimes we need a little bit of encouragement because it's easy to get caught up in other people, especially when you live in a society that likes to compare.
- 8:38We get very individualistic on the West.
- 8:40It's always about, you know, me and not a we.
- 8:44And in this case focusing on the me to better show up for the we could actually be beneficial versus just me, me, me, me.
- 8:51And I'm not worried about y' all and y' all this and y' all ain't as dope as me and y' all in it.
- 8:55Like, let's cut all that noise.
- 8:57So again, don't forget what makes you special and keep riding with that.
- 9:03So that's all I wanted to put on you all's heart this week.

- 9:15I'm slowly going to be making changes for the next year.
- 9:18It's not going to be some super duper oh, I'm doing this big ten year.
- 9:22No, it's not like Homegirl Week where I did a week of free programming.
- 9:27And that was dope too.
- 9:29If you missed out, man, it was amazing.
- 9:31But I did a bunch of free programming for that week during my fifth year.
- 9:35But I want to spend year number 10 just slowly making some very big changes and you will see what I mean sooner than later.
- 9:45But I'm looking forward to doing some things behind the scenes.
- 9:49Also, shout out to the trainings and the things that I've done for other people, those that allowed me to do trains for other people.
- 9:56I'm really excited to continue doing those.
- 9:58If you want me to do any type of workshops or trainings or anything that you have heard me speak on this podcast over the last 600 episodes, don't forget to hit me up.
- 10:06Maria spiritualhomegirl.com maria@spiritualhomegirl.com and we can talk about what you want to do and figure out what the budget is and go from there.
- 10:15I've spoken at schools, I've spoken at for sales teams.
- 10:18I've spoken with professionals in the helping space, educators as well.
- 10:24So I have a pretty wide audience.

- 10:28So with that being said, y' all know I cannot do any podcast episode without thanking you all for listening.
- 10:32So thank you for listening.
