- 0:01Speaker 1: And Slumdog Millionaire is one of my favorite movies like
- 0:04Speaker 1: of the last 20 or 25 years about an Indian
- 0:07Speaker 1: kid who goes on jeopardy and miraculously plows through things
- 0:10Speaker 1: and suspicions arise, but also takes place against the backdrop
- 0:14Speaker 1: of Bombay, Mumbai, excuse.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Me, whatever.
- 0:16Speaker 1: And I'm going to tell you one of the, one
- 0:18Speaker 1: of the effects it had on me as I became
- 0:20Speaker 1: pretty fascinated as I am with every culture around the world.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I'm fascinated with Indian culture. Always have been.
- 0:26Speaker 1: So against this backdrop, If, let's say, all of a
- 0:29Speaker 1: sudden you go to Costco in Southlake and it's like
- 0:31Speaker 1: 70 percent Indians in there, whatever.
- 0:33Speaker 2: I don't care. People want to come here. Fine.
- 0:36Speaker 1: It seems distinct from, shall we say, the Muslim issue
- 0:40Speaker 1: where we may have some religious teaching issues. I don't
- 0:43Speaker 1: think the Hindus are a big risk to us. And yet,
- 0:46Speaker 1: I don't know if you've caught wind of this. There
- 0:48Speaker 1: was our Railroad Commission candidate, Beau French. With a picture
- 0:52Speaker 1: of the celebrating kids at UT after the big win
- 0:54Speaker 1: over Ohio State. Section contained just a swath of Indian kids.
- 1:00Speaker 1: And there's Bo saying, they told me graduation looked like this.
- 1:04Speaker 1: The problem is bigger than we thought. So is that
- 1:08Speaker 1: straight up racism, as some people say? I'll flat out
- 1:11Speaker 1: tell you, I don't think it is. I think it's
- 1:14Speaker 1: a concern over H-1Bs, mass migration, Americans getting shunted aside
- 1:18Speaker 1: in education and workplaces. As with a few other things
- 1:21Speaker 1: Beau has said and done, he might phrase it a
- 1:23Speaker 1: little more delicately. I offer it to you.
- 1:26Speaker 3: What are your thoughts, Mike Gallagher? It's a problem for me,
- 1:29Speaker 3: to tell you the truth. I like the fact that
- 1:32Speaker 3: we are a diverse nation. I don't mind it. I
- 1:35Speaker 3: don't like the fact that we allow illegal immigrants in here,
- 1:38Speaker 3: you know, and we have under the Biden administration. Trump
- 1:40Speaker 3: has put an end to that. But I'll be honest
- 1:43Speaker 3: with you. It's not a good look. I mean, if
- 1:46Speaker 3: you take one section of a football stadium and you've
- 1:51Speaker 3: got a bunch of Indian kids or you've got a
- 1:52Speaker 3: bunch of maybe you've got Hispanic kids or maybe you've
- 1:55Speaker 3: got black kids or maybe you've got white kids because,
- 1:58Speaker 3: you know, when I first saw it, I thought he
- 2:01Speaker 3: was making— I didn't even recognize who it was, and I
- 2:04Speaker 3: thought they were complaining that there were too many white
- 2:06Speaker 3: kids in the stands. So you can paint with this
- 2:09Speaker 3: broad brush, and you start looking at one section, and
- 2:13Speaker 3: you say, look, we shouldn't ever lose sight of the
- 2:16Speaker 3: fact that we are a welcoming nation, provided you play
- 2:21Speaker 3: by the rules, and you dot every I, and you
- 2:23Speaker 3: cross every T, and And you do it the right way.
- 2:27Speaker 3: But that doesn't mean we want a homogenized, all-white society.
- 2:33Speaker 3: And if anything is less than that, then we're going
- 2:35Speaker 3: to bellyache. That's not who we are. That's not who
- 2:38Speaker 3: this country is. My grandparents, not great-grandparents, my actual grandparents
- 2:43Speaker 3: came over on boats by Ellis Island and were processed
- 2:48Speaker 3: at Ellis Island and were legal immigrants. I've got a
- 2:53Speaker 3: friend whose sister is right now working through a green
- 2:56Speaker 3: card process, and it's tough. It's a tough, expensive, harrowing
- 3:01Speaker 3: journey for many of these people. But to make this
- 3:04Speaker 3: blanket condemnation, it gives the left all kinds of ammunition
- 3:09Speaker 3: to say, here we go again. Look at another Republican
- 3:12Speaker 3: taking one picture of one small section of a cheering
- 3:16Speaker 3: section and saying, oh, look at the problem we got.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Look at all those Indian kids. It's just dumb. It's
- 3:24Speaker 3: a self-inflicted wound and it isn't necessary. You can have
- 3:27Speaker 3: these deliberate conversations without that kind of inflammatory rhetoric.
- 3:32Speaker 1: So that's what I say. And you've got a lot
- 3:34Speaker 1: of company. What should– and I don't know if I'm
- 3:37Speaker 1: in that company, but I am at least partially because
- 3:40Speaker 1: through everything I look at the lens. And this is
- 3:42Speaker 1: very much a lesson I've learned from you. is you
- 3:44Speaker 1: can talk about things on their merits and talk about
- 3:46Speaker 1: the nuts and bolts of an issue, but the one
- 3:49Speaker 1: most important thing at all times is, does anything make
- 3:52Speaker 1: it easier or harder for us to attract voters on
- 3:55Speaker 1: November 1st?
- 3:56Speaker 2: That's it.
- 3:56Speaker 1: It is the Mike Gallagher lesson. You can be right
- 3:58Speaker 1: about something, you can be passionate about something, but if
- 4:01Speaker 1: it freaks people out or drives people away, not helpful.
- 4:04Speaker 3: And it's going to freak people out. I mean, that's
- 4:06Speaker 3: definitely going to freak people out to see that. Now
- 4:09Speaker 3: you've got John Cornyn piling on. Shocker. Oh, yeah. Who
- 4:14Speaker 3: also compared J.D. Vance with Zoran Mamdani over the weekend.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Yep.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Oh, boy, we dodged that bullet in Texas. You talk about,
- 4:23Speaker 3: I mean, he's exactly what people feared he was. And
- 4:26Speaker 3: now his true colors are coming out. He lied to
- 4:29Speaker 3: you on air. Oh, I'm MAGA. You're MAGA? He literally
- 4:34Speaker 3: painted MAGA as being a bunch of extremists. And he's
- 4:40Speaker 3: doubling down. That's who he is. That's who these guys are.
- 4:44Speaker 3: That's at the core of it, Mark. They hate the
- 4:47Speaker 3: America First movement. They hate everything about it. And John
- 4:50Speaker 3: Cornyn is right there in the middle of it. Right
- 4:52Speaker 3: there along with probably John Thune, you got the Paul Ryan,
- 4:58Speaker 3: Jeb Bush, Mitt Romney kind of a cabal of establishment
- 5:02Speaker 3: Republicans who loathe what Trump has turned the Republican Party into.
- 5:07Speaker 3: And as a result, look, the voters of Texas, it's
- 5:12Speaker 3: not a newsflash here, Ken Paxton wasn't appointed. There was
- 5:17Speaker 3: some committee behind back rooms. Voters voted for him. He
- 5:22Speaker 3: was elected. And by the way, it wasn't even close.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Cornyn was thumped. So guess what? Fade off into the
- 5:29Speaker 3: sunset with a little bit of dignity and leave MAGA alone.
- 5:32Speaker 3: But thank you for proving. And Mark, I feel bad
- 5:35Speaker 3: for you. Because you stuck your neck out with John Cornyn.
- 5:39Speaker 3: I saw the interview. I watched. I listened to it.
- 5:41Speaker 3: You asked him, and you held him to that. Oh,
- 5:43Speaker 3: I'm MAGA, Mark. I'm MAGA first. I'm going to put— he lied.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Look what he is now. Look what he said. You're
- 5:50Speaker 3: going to compare J.D. Vance to Zoran Mamdani? You're going
- 5:54Speaker 3: to equate MAGA with these lunatics on the left? And
- 5:58Speaker 3: right now, Mark, on the left, make no mistake, it's
- 6:00Speaker 3: a horror show. It's a— Talarico is a horror show. These
- 6:05Speaker 3: are the extreme of the extremists.
- 6:08Speaker 2: There are clips all over the place.
- 6:11Speaker 1: The most recent Tallarico clip over the weekend was him
- 6:13Speaker 1: at a House hearing in 2019 saying that if a
- 6:16Speaker 1: parent does not go along with a freshly discovered contrarian
- 6:22Speaker 1: gender identity for a son or daughter, that that's child abuse.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Oh, I mean, look, Bernie Sanders wants to put people
- 6:28Speaker 3: in jail that are running these AI companies. And we've
- 6:33Speaker 3: got to get to this. I need your wisdom on this.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Let's go. Because all of a sudden, here we go.
- 6:39Speaker 3: The panic is here. The clock is ticking. AI is
- 6:44Speaker 3: going to destroy us all in a few years. And
- 6:47Speaker 3: there's a tell here. There's a red flag that everybody
- 6:51Speaker 3: ought to be paying attention to. Hot Air did a
- 6:54Speaker 3: great job in pointing this out. There's now a full-fledged
- 6:58Speaker 3: panic underway about artificial intelligence. And I get it. I
- 7:01Speaker 3: understand worries that we can have about what AI can become.
- 7:06Speaker 3: In fact, you mentioned the Indian kids at the Texas game.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Talk about India. I had an internet issue over the weekend.
- 7:13Speaker 3: This is so funny, and it ties into the AI panic.
- 7:17Speaker 3: So I've got an IT provider that obviously every one
- 7:22Speaker 3: of the techs is in Mumbai, every one of them,
- 7:25Speaker 3: because I had to call about 10 times. I had
- 7:27Speaker 3: this very unique, weird problem, and they couldn't figure it out.
- 7:32Speaker 3: And they could not figure it out. And they were
- 7:34Speaker 3: helpful and they were good. Every single one of them
- 7:37Speaker 3: had the thick Indian accent. Of course, I love, hello,
- 7:41Speaker 3: my name is Danny. I'm Dave from Cincinnati. Yeah, you're Dave.
- 7:47Speaker 3: You're not Danny. You're not Nick. Just help me.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I don't care if you're Zorgon from Mars, if you
- 7:52Speaker 2: can just help me.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Well, and they couldn't. But here's what I was able
- 7:56Speaker 3: to do. And it was just fascinating. And hats off
- 7:59Speaker 3: to the company trying to help me. But every call
- 8:01Speaker 3: I made, the 800 number, every single one of them
- 8:04Speaker 3: were Indians. And I wanted to say to them, you're in.
- 8:07Speaker 3: In fact, I think the email confirmation I got was.
- 8:10Speaker 3: when they were– because they're very good with customer service–
- 8:12Speaker 3: said India. I mean they now own it. They say
- 8:15Speaker 3: we're in India and that's where– and this is what's
- 8:17Speaker 3: going on. Look, Salem's IT department right now, you may
- 8:21Speaker 3: not know this, is in the Philippines.
- 8:23Speaker 1: And here's the thing because these companies– and I want
- 8:25Speaker 1: to get back to your IT story– is that these
- 8:29Speaker 1: companies are desperate to save money. Every American company is
- 8:32Speaker 1: desperate to save money. And if you can get IT,
- 8:35Speaker 1: if you can get customer service, if you can get
- 8:38Speaker 1: some of your outreach– handled in Asia and save a
- 8:41Speaker 1: bunch of money and keep your prices low for American customers?
- 8:45Speaker 2: Is that good or is it bad? So there's that
- 8:49Speaker 2: whole talk show.
- 8:50Speaker 3: There's another talk show. And I will tell you, these
- 8:53Speaker 3: guys in India are good. I mean, they really knew
- 8:56Speaker 3: their stuff, even though this was a problem they couldn't
- 8:59Speaker 3: quite overcome. So you know how I overcame the problem
- 9:01Speaker 3: in my new home? I had to get a router, okay? Now,
- 9:06Speaker 3: If you held a gun to my head and said, Mike,
- 9:08Speaker 3: connect a router, you'd just have to shoot me. Mike,
- 9:13Speaker 3: fly to the moon on wings. Mike, perform a liver
- 9:17Speaker 3: transplant with chopsticks.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Set up a nuclear core reactor in your kitchen.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Couldn't do it. Couldn't do it if my life depended
- 9:23Speaker 3: on it. You know what I turn to? Chat GPT.
- 9:27Speaker 3: You know what ChatGPT did? Made me a router, IT, Wi-Fi,
- 9:32Speaker 3: wireless expert in about 60 seconds. Thanks to ChatGPT, I
- 9:38Speaker 3: had that thing up and running and completely fixed. I
- 9:42Speaker 3: had spent days calling Mumbai to get their help. ChatGPT
- 9:47Speaker 3: fixed it in about a minute. And I started thinking,
- 9:51Speaker 3: my Lord. You think about all of the stuff that
- 9:55Speaker 3: this is going to be able to do. Medical diagnoses.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Oh, totally.
- 9:59Speaker 1: You know how many people have stories where they take
- 10:01Speaker 1: stuff to their doctor and the doctor says, wow, that
- 10:04Speaker 1: technology saw stuff that I would have missed.
- 10:07Speaker 3: My doctor tells me Chad GPT is rarely wrong. It's
- 10:11Speaker 3: almost never wrong. My own doctor seems to be. And look,
- 10:14Speaker 3: I pay a lot of money to him because, you know,
- 10:16Speaker 3: hypochondriac Harry. I got the concierge medicine. I got him
- 10:20Speaker 3: on speed dial. If I need him to come over
- 10:22Speaker 3: and spend the weekend, he does. But he's hurting his
- 10:26Speaker 3: own business because I don't need him anymore. I've got
- 10:28Speaker 3: Chad GPT. What do I need Best Buy's Geek Squad for?
- 10:32Speaker 3: Pardon me. I love Best Buy. What do I need
- 10:34Speaker 3: them for when I can use ChatGPD to show me
- 10:36Speaker 3: how to put up a router? So that leads to
- 10:40Speaker 3: the panic. All right. Ross Douthat last night made his
- 10:43Speaker 3: debut on 60 Minutes. And I'm kind of intrigued by
- 10:46Speaker 3: the new 60 Minutes under Barry Weiss. I think it's
- 10:50Speaker 3: got some hope. It's better than it used to be.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Who knows? He used his debut on 60 Minutes to
- 10:55Speaker 3: deliver this stark... dire warning about artificial intelligence. Okay. Oh,
- 11:01Speaker 3: it's a clock is ticking. They're going to, and the,
- 11:04Speaker 3: and the narrative is they're going to destroy. It's going
- 11:06Speaker 3: to destroy humanity within the next 10 years. This isn't
- 11:10Speaker 3: even a hundred years away, 10 years. We're, we're dead.
- 11:14Speaker 3: You and I talked about this yesterday on the phone
- 11:15Speaker 3: when we were catching up on a Sunday, and we
- 11:18Speaker 3: both agreed. If bad actors get involved or if AI
- 11:22Speaker 3: decides to turn on us, we may all be in trouble.
- 11:25Speaker 3: All right, fair enough. But you know who's leading the
- 11:27Speaker 3: AI panic? AI companies. This AI employee, Jacob Coxon, he's
- 11:35Speaker 3: now a media darling, came out of nowhere, almost literally.
- 11:39Speaker 3: He worked at OpenAI training frontier models. Now he's warning
- 11:43Speaker 3: that AI could kill us all. Mark, aren't you a little...
- 11:47Speaker 3: skeptical that it's the AI companies that are banging this drum?
- 11:51Speaker 2: I am, but I don't know why.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I do.
- 11:54Speaker 3: I know why.
- 11:55Speaker 2: I think we've given birth to a podcast subject.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Well, let me tell you why. Sure.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Why would Anthropic and the other AI companies want to
- 12:03Speaker 1: be putting the brakes on their own stuff?
- 12:06Speaker 3: They want government regulation, and they want the government to
- 12:09Speaker 3: start regulating anti-conservative narratives. Look at J.D. Pritzker. Oh, we
- 12:16Speaker 3: need government to step in. Congress needs it. They want
- 12:19Speaker 3: government regulation.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Once again, why?
- 12:22Speaker 1: Why would these private sector companies want government guardrails?
- 12:26Speaker 3: One of the things is it gives them immunity from
- 12:28Speaker 3: liability if something goes terribly wrong. They get immunity from
- 12:32Speaker 3: the government. I mean, look at Governor J.B. Pritzker, the
- 12:35Speaker 3: worst of the worst. We cannot trust AI companies to self-regulate.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Congress needs to intervene. They want– now, there are some
- 12:45Speaker 3: Republicans who are saying this is a panic time and
- 12:48Speaker 3: a pulling the Luna here in Florida. Oh, we got
- 12:51Speaker 3: a problem here. So it's a little bit bipartisan. Be
- 12:55Speaker 3: very wary. I think this is COVID scare all over again.
- 13:00Speaker 3: This is the latest COVID panic. The panikins are panicking
- 13:03Speaker 3: about AI, and I'm not buying it, Mark. I'm just not.
- 13:06Speaker 1: I crave details in today's M & M Extra. I
- 13:10Speaker 1: got this show that we're doing. Mike has his radio
- 13:12Speaker 1: show about to unfold. Make sure you listen to both.
- 13:14Speaker 1: And then come back to us, YouTube, M & M Extra,
- 13:17Speaker 1: then Apple and Spotify later. Other things in the news.
- 13:19Speaker 1: There's stuff we didn't even get to. That's why I
- 13:21Speaker 1: love the podcast every day.
- 13:22Speaker 3: I know.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Because I have things to ask you on the heels
- 13:25Speaker 1: of 9-11 and the last week's convention. Much more to
- 13:27Speaker 1: cover in M & M Extra.
- 13:29Speaker 2: And I'll be right back.
