- 0:23chickens, Hey everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:28coop. So today I want to talk to you
- 0:31about cameras, huh? Probably saying why are we
- 0:33talking about cameras on this? Well, any of you who know me and
- 0:37have followed me for any period of time, know that I'm a little
- 0:39obsessive, we're taking pictures, whether it's my iPhone
- 0:42or my Canon, I really am into my cameras and taking pictures with
- 0:47them, because it's part of a mindfulness practice for me
- 0:51where I use them to notice small things.
- 0:53And I look for great shots and Things, whether it's in my
- 0:55chickens flowers, the plants we grow out here on the farm,
- 0:59whatever it is that we're doing. There's always part of me that's
- 1:02very focused on that. But today, I want to talk to you
- 1:07about what you can learn from focusing on the attributes.
- 1:12The camera can bring to you. And I know that sounds really
- 1:15strange but when you start to think about it cameras, teach
- 1:18you so much. And in the process of being, you
- 1:23know, aware of the The camera aspects, the camera actually
- 1:27gives you this ability to focus on what's important, right?
- 1:33So think about this, you have your camera, you don't focus on
- 1:36what's unimportant. You focus on what's important,
- 1:38you focus on what's in your line of sight.
- 1:41What you want to hone in on and isn't that what we do when we're
- 1:46talking about our life and our goals, we want to focus in on
- 1:49something that's important to us.
- 1:50So You have to choose carefully what you focus on and what your
- 1:56intent of the subject is. And most of the time, we are
- 2:01trying to capture a good stuff. We're trying to take pictures of
- 2:04great things. We're trying to get just that
- 2:06right shot. Most of us, unless we're news
- 2:09photographers, I'm not looking for the bad things.
- 2:12We're trying to capture great pictures of our family.
- 2:15We're trying to capture great pictures of what's going on
- 2:17around us memories, you know, and this is so important in our
- 2:21lives. Like if we're focused on this
- 2:25think about that. You want to focus on the good
- 2:27stuff you want to say to yourself.
- 2:28Wow I want to be like the camera today I'm going to focus on the
- 2:31good stuff. Inevitably, you're going to take
- 2:34a crappy shot. There's no question about it.
- 2:37I take lots and lots and lots because having a digital camera,
- 2:41you can take a ton and you don't have to worry about it.
- 2:45You have to take those pictures and take film in have it
- 2:48developed like you did in old school days and you can just
- 2:52trash those pictures and start all over again.
- 2:54The beauty of digital art, it's just, you know, there's
- 2:57something to be said for old-school art and there's
- 2:59something to be said for digital art because it is fun to be
- 3:02able. Just take hundreds of pictures
- 3:04and I do that with my chickens. I mean people look at pictures
- 3:07and they'll say, wow, that's an amazing shot.
- 3:09Well you're seeing one of many hundreds that I took in order to
- 3:12get that one shot in that right position with the right lighting
- 3:16across their eye or their face. So, you know, you've got to be
- 3:19willing to sit there and say to yourself.
- 3:21Yep. I I'm very aware of the fact
- 3:24that I'm going to have Shots that just don't work.
- 3:28I'm going to have things that are just bad shots and that's
- 3:32okay because I'm still going to continue to take another shot
- 3:37and wow what an important lesson in life, right?
- 3:39Take another shot. Don't try to complicate things.
- 3:43Just take another shot and at some point you're going to get
- 3:47exactly what you're looking for out of them.
- 3:49And if it means that you have to move over a millimeter and take
- 3:53that shot, you do it. The I mean, that's what I do
- 3:55constantly. Because that one little shift,
- 3:58that one little different perspective.
- 4:00I can tell you one of the things that I learned when I was in art
- 4:03school that really like elevated.
- 4:06My photography, not that this is a photography lesson, but it was
- 4:09hey, don't just stand up from your own perspective, whatever
- 4:12height you are, squat down, get low on the ground.
- 4:15Stand on top of something else, take a different angle and isn't
- 4:18that true in life about perspective and general?
- 4:21Don't just take it from one point of view, look around, try
- 4:24to find multiple perspectives that you can see something from
- 4:27because that's the power in changing, your view about
- 4:31whatever is happening in your life and it's the lesson in the
- 4:34camera to get a good shot, change your perspective because
- 4:38God knows the moment. You do that, you get an amazing
- 4:41amazing outcome from it. And you know, here's the thing,
- 4:47no matter how many bad shots, you take, no matter what is out
- 4:52there, when you're dealing with the, you know, art and your
- 4:56Creating with a camera. The fun thing is that sometimes
- 5:01those mistakes shots actually turn out to be really silly,
- 5:04especially when you look at them in a series.
- 5:06So the lesson is when you're too in life, when you're looking at
- 5:10all of this and you're saying, wow, that that seemingly was a
- 5:14bad shot but that led to this and that led to this and that
- 5:16led to this. And you can see how it leads up
- 5:20to the good shot. So those bad shots in a lineup
- 5:23when you have the perspective to look at it in a line, Changes
- 5:27everything and that's what you need to do for yourself.
- 5:30So today's lesson be like the camera and I will add this in.
- 5:36If you do not have a mindfulness practice that includes taking
- 5:39pictures with your phone, add this one in because I promise
- 5:42you it will absolutely thrill you to walk around and say what
- 5:45are the cool things that I can take pictures of today that no
- 5:48one else notices? I spend all my time on the phone
- 5:52during the day walking around talking to clients.
- 5:55And I'll tell you, I'm Probably on average, take about 25 shots
- 5:59a day of different things. That I notice as I'm walking
- 6:02around, it could be something as simple as my shoes.
- 6:05It could be something as Fabulous As a blooming flower.
- 6:08It could be anything that I see, but the great part is I'm always
- 6:13looking and honing in on something creative and it really
- 6:16does make your brain become more attuned to that creative
- 6:20process. So I'm going to throw down that
- 6:22challenge. I hope you guys have an amazing
- 6:25day, and I remember be A camera and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 6:28Have a great day. Bye.
