- 3:07loaded up. As I said, we got a host of others are going

- 3:14guest co host by talking to our good friend Hannah Gardner from the Candal Charleston,
- 3:17Maine Association with this week's adot me please pet of the week. Hannah,
- 3:22good morning, How are you, Hannah? Are you there here?
- 3:29Okay? Hannah? Andy, Andy, Hannah, Hi, Hannah, nice
- 3:32to meet you all. Are We can barely hear Hannah. I don't know,
- 3:38Hannah. Maybe you need to uh step up a little bit to the
- 3:42to the phone there because we can barely hear you. Shout at us,
- 3:45shout at us. Yeah there you go, there you go? All right
- 3:52now. As always, the picture of of our pet is posted on my
- 3:58Facebook, Dave Allen Radio and also at Dave A seventy on AX the Artists
- 4:01formerly known as Twitter. This week, the story is a story of Blossom.
- 4:06Tell us about Blossom. Yeah, so she is five months old and
- 4:15she's a very very energetic little girl. She has been adulted before, but
- 4:20she was brought back no fault of her own. She just wasn't allowed to
- 4:24be in the apartment complex she was in. And she's very, very very
- 4:29sweet. She would be a very very good family dog. I think maybe
- 4:32for a little bit of older kids, just because of how energetic she can
- 4:36be. She's still puppy obviously, she's five months old, so she still
- 4:43has all of that puppy energy wanting to run around and play. So maybe
- 4:48even even if it's a small yard, but just like a yard that she
- 4:51can run around, then would be great for her. She is stayed already,
- 4:57so she is all ready to go. She has her vaccines and she's
- 5:00microchips and all of that good stuff, so she is ready to go home.
- 5:04She's a beautiful dog for someone who's really energetic like her though, okay,
- 5:10it must has like human like features, like she looks like she has
- 5:13wisdom to share with us, don't you see it in the face. Yes,
- 5:17she's she has that big underbyte too, which is so cute. Well,
- 5:21she's a beautiful dog. Any idea what kind of dog that she is?
- 5:27No, not really, she is about this. She's not going to
- 5:31get big, that's for sure. She's still very very like small to medium
- 5:35sized right now. I wouldn't say she's gonna get much bigger than she is.
- 5:42Maybe she'll get around to be about like forty or so pounds, but
- 5:46I don't think she's going to be any bigger than that. Well, she's
- 5:49an absolutely beautiful dog. It will make a great pet. And as you
- 5:51said, she is good with with with kids and with other dogs. But
- 5:57it's and it's a younger dog. And you said she was back through no
- 6:00fault of her own, so we want to make make sure we put out
- 6:02to put that out there. And in reading the notes that you sent me,
- 6:05Hannah, she was she came in with fishing line wrapped around her neck.
- 6:10Is that right? Yes, So when she came in, she was
- 6:15actually brought in I believed by one of our humane officers found her with fishing
- 6:21wire wrapped around her neck. Now, you know, we don't know if
- 6:26that's intentional or fats accidental or how that happened, but she did have it
- 6:30wrapped around her neck. So We did take that off of her, and
- 6:35she didn't have hair there for a while, but she does now. She
- 6:39looks great. She's beautiful, she's sweet, and she is just ready for
- 6:43a good home. She would be a great one to go on, like
- 6:46hikes and outdoor stuff, take to the dog part, stuff like that.
- 6:51She's a very sweet girl. Glossom is the high energy companion we all need
- 6:56to keep us in line throughout the summer. Right exactly, Well, we'll
- 7:03kind of wrap up with the Blossom here. I'll go back to it.
- 7:05You're in a couple of moments, but a hand of the details are starting
- 7:08to come out now about one of your big events that you do there at
- 7:11the shelter, and that's the Kegs for Canines. It's gonna be at the
- 7:15Red Carpet Lounge on Friday, September the eighth, starts at five thirty.
- 7:16What's this all about. Yeah, So, like you said, September eight,
- 7:23it's at the Red Carpet Lounge. It's from five thirty and nine thirty,
- 7:27and you can go get your tickets on our social media. You can
- 7:30go to our actual social media page. Cannot trust in the main association,
- 7:35and then you can just search up kegs for Canines, or if you scroll
- 7:39down a little bit, you'll see where we've shared and posted about kegs for
- 7:43Canines. It's basically a event that we have every year and you can come
- 7:48and you can drink beer, and you can have your dogs there. You
- 7:51can pet some dogs because we'll have some there, and you can get I
- 7:55think we're gonna have a bunch of stuff to do this year, Like we
- 8:00usually have safe painting, I believe. I'm not sure if we're gonna have
- 8:01that this year, but I know we're gonna have some hair tenseling, and
- 8:05we're gonna have a bunch of other stuff like friendship bracelets for even kids that
- 8:09they wanted to come and make some friendship blass and stuff like that. So
- 8:13mark your calendars. It's going to be very, very fun. We always
- 8:18say cold beers for Cold Neses. It's really cute. I'll be there,
- 8:22so it's gonna be great. Well that's worth the prise of admission right there,
- 8:24because if people finally get to meet Hannah, she'll be there, So
- 8:28it's going to be great. Friday, September, the age starts at five
- 8:30thirty at the Red Carpet Lounge one of the things I wanted to get to
- 8:33you with. There was something else that kind of caught my attention. I
- 8:35was looking at, well, actually a couple of things that I want to
- 8:37go over with you. I was looking at your Facebook page. You've got
- 8:39a great deal going on with Petco, I understand now through the weekend.
- 8:45Now on the page, there's a coupon that is good at Petco for twenty
- 8:48five percent off of a purchase. There be a nice gift for an existing
- 8:52pet or My mind goes to this, maybe it would be good that you
- 8:56could go use that Petco coupon to buy some applies to donate to the shelter.
- 9:03Yes, you could do that. We is the pictures of it is
- 9:07on our social media, So if you just want to go screenshot that or
- 9:11show them that, you can just show them that as a register. But
- 9:15it is usable online as well, so it's very, very very handy.
- 9:20We are excited to be having that to get out to just anyone. But
- 9:24also if you adopt from us, we also give you a twenty percent off
- 9:28coupon to Petco, even if it's not related to this week and so coup
- 9:35all right, absolutely a matter of fact, I got a text of the
- 9:37show that says please donate to the shelter, and they sent me. This
- 9:41is somebody who obviously keeps tabs on what's going on the shelter, because they
- 9:45sent me a picture of some of the things that that you could really use.
- 9:48Purina dog chail, don dish soap, treats for dogs and cats of
- 9:52any kind, laundry detergent that's to keep the blankets fresh, posable gloves,
- 10:00paper towels, and linens including blankets and towels and use linens are welcome here,
- 10:05we understand. And also they wanted to throw in this person, did
- 10:09this person knows what you're talking about? The chief was placed to buy bleach
- 10:11is dollar general. It's one dollar a gallon, So there you go,
- 10:16there you go. Yeah, we do definitely need all of those things.
- 10:18I know that dog food and linens and soap are a big thing right now.
- 10:24We could also always there's never a time that we don't need dog colors.
- 10:28We put a collar on every dog to walk through the door just as
- 10:33a safety precaution, so we definitely could use some of those. But just
- 10:39any anything that helps at all. Yeah, absolutely, something else that kind
- 10:43of caught my attention. We'll close with this and this. There was a
- 10:46family, Hannah, that had lost a loved one, someone in their family
- 10:50had passed, and they asked instead of flowers or something like that, that
- 10:52people make donations to the shelter in that person's name. That is quite common.
- 10:58That goes on a lot, right, Yes, that actually actually happens
- 11:03quite often. We have a lot of people donate in memory of people.
- 11:05So if you or a loved one wanted to have that happened, you could
- 11:11definitely do that. It's a very nice thing. It's a very it's a
- 11:16very great option to have as well. Indeed, all right, Hannah,
- 11:18it's always a pleasure to talk to you. And we won't talk to you
- 11:20next week. I understand you're gonna be away, but we have somebody that's
- 11:24going to be a subbing for you next week. We'll still have the adopt
- 11:26me please put of the week next week. So thank you so much for
- 11:30joining us. Enjoy your time. Awful talk to you here in a couple
- 11:31of weeks. Thank you as sea there. All right, Sannah Garden from
- 11:35the Canal Charles and New made association with this week's adopt Me. Please pet
- 11:39of the week and Andy, I mean, what a beautiful dog, right,
- 11:43I love the dogs. Such a cutie and I'm telling you the human
- 11:46face is uncanny. Go look at the picture. It's it's a Dave Allen
- 11:50radio on Facebook or at Dave a seventy on X if you've gotten used to
- 11:52say an X yet or do you? Are you a Twitter person? I
- 11:54keep saying Twitter, but I'm trying to get with the trend. It's just
- 11:58Twitter to me, Blossom. It's five months old, microchip spade and ready
- 12:01to join your home, vaccinated, loves kids and other playful dogs. She
- 12:07was adopted and then got sent that they brought her back, but nothing that
- 12:11she did. It's just the person adopted could not have the dog in her
- 12:13apartment facility. Perfect high energy companion and she's five months old, meaning that
- 12:20again, like you said, there's going to be some energy there. So
- 12:22this is not last week we had a dog that said it was just that
- 12:24he didn't say, but somebody said that the dog was just perfect to be
- 12:28a companion to lay around to watch Netflix or whatever. This is not that
- 12:31dog. This is a high energy dog. But there's nothing wrong with that
- 12:35and with the dog being so young, this is one that could really grow
- 12:37with your family. Dog absolutely loves kids. From what we understand, normal
- 12:41puppy energy and then they start to mellow out. You want the puppy energy
- 12:45though, Yeah, absolutely so. Go check out Blossom again available for adoption
- 12:48with the Canal Charles Remain Association. Blossom with five months old, microchip,
- 12:52Spade vaccinated checks, all the boxes ready to go to your home. Five

- 16:38tonight? So fest of all it is going to be set up as part
- 16:41of back to School night at Live on the Levee. We're gonna have a
- 16:44ton of people on the boulevard all the way down doing free haircuts, doing
- 16:48backpack giveaways, doing face painting, character meet and Green's charcature is. So
- 16:52it's gonna be a big night at Live on the Levee on top of the
- 16:55amazing music that we're gonna have to all right, Jim, you talk about
- 16:57the amazing music, the amazing music the unit have. They've been on the
- 17:02shown Bomb stage in the past. They're going to take that center stage at
- 17:04six thirty tonight. A wonderful six piece band just a good groove, just
- 17:10a good vibe, just a good kind of soulful dancing music. The unit.
- 17:14They'll play for sixty minutes until seven thirty. We'll take a much needed
- 17:18break. We have a few speakers tonight. We'll they'll weigh some, throw
- 17:21out some away, we'll throw out some T shirts and then at seven forty
- 17:25five, taking center stage down at Haddad river Front Park on season nineteen,
- 17:30week number ten, our final Friday of the of the year. I'll get
- 17:34through this. I'll be fine. Slim will take center stage and he'll play
- 17:37for two forty five minute sets. He's been on the stage before. He
- 17:41brings a lot of rappiness to the audience. Yeah, as you well know,
- 17:44it'll be a great night. You guys are involved tonight, aren't you
- 17:45as well? Thirteen News and we have a special announcement to my understanding one
- 17:51you're not gonna want to miss. Yep, it should be good. I
- 17:52think I know what's coming. W WKS our TV media sponsored tonight. Our
- 17:56charities will be there, kbc's our charity of choice tonight. I just want
- 18:00to put out thanks to all the audience members, everybody that's come down and
- 18:03supported our fifty fifty drawings. We're about one hundred and seventeen thousand dollars that
- 18:08we've raised the full nineteen season. So it goes to help our fellow brother
- 18:14and sister who may need a bite, eat in the place to lay their
- 18:17head at night. So thanks for that. Voters, come down, skateboarders,
- 18:21come down, bicyclists. I don't care if you walk, route a
- 18:22car, how you get down there, but it should be the place to
- 18:26be tonight Hadad Riverfront Park. The weather looks per superb. It's going to
- 18:30be great, and we just want to thank all the sponsors and everybody that's
- 18:33been involved. Of course it's brought to you by the City of Charleston,
- 18:37but Moses is obviously our title sponsor, so many other great sponsors. It
- 18:41does take a village to put this thing together. Tonight, As Mackenzie said,
- 18:44back to School Night, really really encourage the students and the kiddos to
- 18:48come on down. We are really catering to the kids tonight. It should
- 18:52be a blast at Hadad Riverfront Park now, and I think some of our
- 18:56folks from the Beat they're gonna be there as well. I think they're gonna
- 18:57be hanging out there tonight as well. We love to bet we just give
- 19:02away five hundred backpacks out here on this parting lot yesterday. Speaking if you're
- 19:06back feeling it, mind does today because of those who have to get out
- 19:07there one way or the other, and we all had to carry those out
- 19:11there yesterday and set up tents and so on and so forth. But I
- 19:12think the Beat's gonna be there as well. Yeah, absolutely, yeah,
- 19:15the BEA It's gonna be there. And I mean, honestly, such a
- 19:17great community partner, such a great community like engagement just at all times.
- 19:22But again tonight, we're gonna have so many things for the community, for
- 19:26the kids. You know, We've got the foam garage is going to be
- 19:30there, the Charles and Fire departments bringing their big fire safety house, the
- 19:33inflatable down there. There's gonna be some giveaways with Canal County's Sheriff's Office,
- 19:38uh CPD CFD, the FBI, they're all gonna come together to do the
- 19:42initials. They're there. Yeah, they're all there tonight, you know,
- 19:47exactly everybody's there. But they're gonna do fingerprinting with the kids and also give
- 19:51away helmets for bikes. So there's gonna be stuff for everybody down there,
- 19:55and I mean magicians. The public library is gonna be down there signing people
- 19:59up for library cards, so little bit of everything, even some sensory friendly
- 20:03activities with West Virginia Cares. Yeah, and we would schedule to have somebody
- 20:07here with us and I don't think that worked out, so but they are
- 20:11going to be They're going to be there tonight as well to have some sensory
- 20:14sensitive activities. The Fun Fitness Kids bus, so the whole bowl of art
- 20:18is going to be lined up with fun things for your kids to do.
- 20:21So bring the whole family. And it's again back to school. And again
- 20:23we've kind of explained to people because I get text about a gym about why
- 20:26it's ending earlier because it used to go through Labor Day. But school starts.
- 20:30Yeah, we talk about that last week and the City of Charleston says,
- 20:33hey, you know what, we think the attendance is a little lower
- 20:37the lex last couple of weeks we have school. You know, schools used
- 20:41to start, as we talked about before day, the day after Labor Day
- 20:44when we were growing up. Now school starts, you know, all kind
- 20:47of started and here we are. So yeah, we're just gonna let the
- 20:51kids get back to school. We're gonna let folks enjoy the Friday night lights,
- 20:55and we're just gonna call it a season. We'll reconvene, we'll reevaluate
- 21:00the Live and Levy season number twenty. We'll be back next Memorial Day weekend.
- 21:03I'm already looking forward to that. By the way, Dave, what
- 21:06am I gonna do without you on Friday? Well, maybe I would just
- 21:07sneak in. We continue to have a what do you call it? The
- 21:11fun house Friday? Maybe we can continue this. Yeah, we did that
- 21:14last year for a few months and then you finally just said okay, Jim,
- 21:15enough, okay, Well Jim. Jim always says something going on to
- 21:19promote I'll be in. I'll be in, brother. And did I see
- 21:22on your social media that you're gonna be up at at ELK you tomorrow for
- 21:26the Herbert I'll be there. I'm Elk River strong, brother, I'm a
- 21:29proud alum. Yeah, I will be there. I'm looking forward to being
- 21:33on the field and I'm I really just want to say thanks to the leadership
- 21:37that happened up at ELK River the last seven years, from Mike Kelly down
- 21:41to the Mayor of Clinden and Mayor Summers and everyone that's had a hand in
- 21:45this whole project. It's going to be I told McKenzie in the green room,
- 21:48there'll be a few tiers flowing. I'm taking my eighty five year old
- 21:52mother with me and so I'll just probably cried. Is holding her hand as
- 21:56we watched the ribbon cutting for the new Herbert Hoover High School. I'm very
- 21:59proud day. Have you had a chance to walk through the school yet,
- 22:02because I've only been on the outside. I've not been inside just yet.
- 22:04So I'm I'm looking forward to a little tour. I'm looking forward to a
- 22:07little football. I'm looking forward to seeing a country music artist who people know
- 22:11very well. We suppose you will be there and he's he's had a little
- 22:15hand in our resurgence, and he was there when we when we flooded,
- 22:18so he had to come back to see the finished product. So I'm looking
- 22:21forward to tomorrow. It's gonna be a big, big, big day up
- 22:23here. We'd like to have everybody out there, but if something happens that
- 22:26you can we are going to be broadcast are streaming it right or broadcast yet
- 22:30with Jared Lewis and Chris Lawrence and Jeff Jay and I'll actually have it on
- 22:33the air tomorrow, so that is good. So I'm gonna leave you with
- 22:36this. I'm glad we're getting all this video and audio of this ceremony and
- 22:41this momentous time in our canal valley because I think this is a national story
- 22:45waiting that needs to be told. The resiliency of the Elk River people and
- 22:49this whole project. I think it's a national story and I'm waiting for it
- 22:52to be told. I'm glad we're getting some footage in some audio because we're
- 22:56gonna need that for the documentary. And what these kids, you know,
- 22:59and the staff went through the last couple of years doing their class room work,
- 23:03you know, from these modular buildings or whatever. Their test scores actually
- 23:06went up the seed in the classroom. They've excelled on the athletic arena,
- 23:11and now they're getting the tools that they deserve. So I'm looking forward to
- 23:15it. Dave, I got to run, Andy, have a good weekend.
- 23:17We'll see tonight maybe, Okay, all right, I'm looking forward McKenzie
- 23:19I take care my guys, all right, Jim Sean, I see,
- 23:23I feel like we should be playing like you know, I can't smile without
- 23:26you by very manelow or something. Don't don't really play that, Coop.
- 23:29That was just a joke. Okay, that was just a joke. Really
- 23:30not serious about that. But Jim is Jim has gone. McKenzie, thank
- 23:33you for stopping by. I appreciate you as always. Keep doing what you
- 23:37do. Thank you guys so much. And I'll be talking every racing all
- 23:41right. It's so McKenzie Spencer again. I appreciate They're a big part of
- 23:42what's going on live on the level night. So many big things going on.
- 23:45Thank you very much. See what Fridays are like around here, Andy,
- 23:49It's crazy. I love it though. It's very entertaining, in and
- 23:52out, in and out. This is the one day that the show's entertaining
- 23:56the rest of the weekend so much. Five. Andy lives in a department

- 24:11as the craziness continues. Your Summerfest and South Charleston's continuing tonight, Vicky Vaughan.
- 24:17It's with the South. Yeah, with the South Charleston Convention and Visitors
- 24:21Bureau. She joined us now, Vicky, good morning, How are you?
- 24:22Good morning? I'm fun. How are you? I'm doing fine.
- 24:26My co host this week is Andy Bernhardt, who I know you've seen on
- 24:29TV on WWK TV thirteen. I love watching the Summer Fest. We've had
- 24:33so many clips and we saw one this morning of this kid doing the best
- 24:37dance. Did you see it? I don't know what the move was,
- 24:41but it was something we need to take notes on. Yeah, how everyone
- 24:44enjoys our dance contests every night at seven thirty, one for children and one
- 24:48for adults, and it's just so entertaining. I love seeing the kids out
- 24:52there. Now, this has actually been going on. When what did it
- 24:55start? Twenty two years ago? Okay, I meant, I meant this
- 24:59week, but at that that's a good point too. That's a great point
- 25:03to twenty two years? When did it starts? Twenty two? Uh?
- 25:06It started on Wednesday. It's always Wednesday Saturn. Okay, And how's it
- 25:10been so far? It's been very good. We had a really good turn
- 25:12out Wednesday night. Last night was a little bit lower because the I get
- 25:17it, kids getting ready to go back to school. But we had the
- 25:21Tams last night and the fourteen Carrot Gold and they were wonderful, really good
- 25:26performance, so we enjoyed that. And then also uh, Kevin and d
- 25:30Twoig came out with the Charleston Shags Society and they offered lessons uh to go
- 25:37with the Tams and uh and they shagged on the you know, we have
- 25:42the dance floor in front of the mounds, so it's so much fun.
- 25:45So that was entertaining just watching the Shaggers last night. Indeed, it was
- 25:49anytime you get a good shag, I mean, that's that's that's what the
- 25:52prize remission right there and you and you know, the weather has been absolutely
- 25:56fantastic, and you know, we just talked to the folks that live on
- 25:59the levy. They'd get their their final event of the year going on.
- 26:03I understand. I think Jenny Murray was down there last night for Summerfestiman V
- 26:06One night was she was. She was down there last night. There's a
- 26:10radio station each night at Summerfest, so she was down there last night and
- 26:15we just really enjoy her. She's so much fun now. So musically,
- 26:18what do we have to look forward to for the rest of the weekend.
- 26:22So tonight, back by popular demand, we have Seven Bridges, the Ultimate
- 26:29Eagles Experience, and we usually have a really really large crowd for that.
- 26:33Plus it's Friday Night and it'll start out with the Danly Band, which is
- 26:37country, but then we have the Seven Bridges, So we're totally excited about
- 26:41that tonight. And they're great. I mean I actually had a chance to
- 26:45work I Am Seed one of their shows h several years ago, and those
- 26:48those guys. If you love the Eagles, and I mean, let's face
- 26:51it, who doesn't love the Eagles. I Mean they're one of those those
- 26:53groups that just everybody knows, if you don't like this song, we're gonna
- 26:56like the next one. And they do it. They do a fantastic job.
- 27:00So if you're an Eagles fan, you show up on Friday's great great
- 27:03party music for the Friday night and you got your ballads and your love songs
- 27:06and whatnot. On there as well. So seven Bridges is fantastic who we
- 27:10got the rest of the weekend, and then on Saturday we have Non Friction,
- 27:17which is a local band that they're going to be the first band at
- 27:19six o'clock. They're a local band and they played like some eighties and nineties
- 27:25music, and then Rick Kay in the road Trip. Rick Kay has been
- 27:30popular with Summerfest for years and years. He puts on a fantastic show and
- 27:34he plays a variety of music, so it's a show along with really good
- 27:38dance tunes. Rick Kay is I mean, he's become sort of an institution
- 27:44in West Virginia. I mean he's been doing it for a long time,
- 27:47and he's had different variations of his band over the years, of course,
- 27:49going back to the Rick Kay and the All Eighters and just a fantastic and
- 27:52Andy. I'll tell you if you've never seen Rick Kay, the guy is
- 27:56absolutely fantastic. I mean he really isn't his band. If you like party
- 27:59music, you can be in the worst mood possible and you go out to
- 28:03a show and you will not be in a bad mood for very long.
- 28:07Well, it sounds like I know where I'm going to be Saturday now and
- 28:10I heard there's fireworks too, right, Yes, at ten pm we will
- 28:15have fireworks and that will conclude Summerfest. So it's really going to be a
- 28:19wonderful. It's always a really good fireworks display. And if you're somewhere along
- 28:25Seventh Avenue there where where the mound is, well, you can see the
- 28:29fireworks anywhere, but that's a really good spot to be well Dale Cooper my
- 28:33production. Now we want to know about the food. We have some food
- 28:37trucks and we have, you know, several We probably have about ten different
- 28:45food trucks and they have a variety of food. So you know, there's
- 28:49strawberry shortcake, there's barbecue, there's loaded mac and cheese. The Woman's Club
- 28:56of South Charleston has homemade ice cream. So and then also the city of
- 29:02South Charleston provides free snow cones for kids, so that's pretty popular. There
- 29:07you go, There you go, all right, So give us all the
- 29:10details again, Where can people learn more? I know you do a great
- 29:11job on your social media. Is that the best place to check out for
- 29:15schedules? We would hope that you would like us on the South Charleston Convention
- 29:19of Visitor Bureau on Facebook. We would love for you to do that because
- 29:23we're always putting events on there also are it's really easy. Our our website
- 29:30is visit south Charleston, w V dot com, so that's easy. Visit
- 29:36South Charleston, WV dot com and you'll have a lineup of the information there.
- 29:41And we're really we're super excited about tomorrow. We have a car show.
- 29:45Awesome. I mean, people, we love our cars here and this
- 29:48part of the world, and so we do things for everyone. I mean,
- 29:51you can't be boy, that's for sure. And the food sounds delicious.
- 29:55Is it too early for all that? Andy told us he gets up
- 30:00at two am, you know, to do the morning news, so she's
- 30:02already told us that this is this is her one or two o'clock PM right
- 30:06now. So yeah, well maybe we could swing down there. I'm already
- 30:08ready to party. Just remember everything at Summerfest starts around six pm. The
- 30:15food trucks usually open around five, but everything, you know, the first
- 30:18entertainers start at six pm, so it's an evening event. And we when
- 30:22we also have back this huge ferrist Will this year and so that's also very
- 30:27popular and it's not going to be a secret, because I'm going to tell
- 30:30it right now. Any kid who is in the dance contest gets a free
- 30:37ticket to ride the Ferris Wheel. Well, that kid makes sense now because
- 30:41he was given it his own. It was off for the free ticket.
- 30:42Was I had just got up this morning and turned the TV on and I
- 30:47saw it and I thought, okay, what you know? My eyes weren't
- 30:49focused you at the coffee head and kicked in. I though, is this
- 30:52what's going on with this kid here? I mean, is he okay?
- 30:55And he did a fantastic job. Quick text here for you, Vicky from
- 31:00a text line that says the Shag is the official South Carolina State Dance s
- 31:06C for South Carolina, s C for South Charleston. Maybe the city should
- 31:10make it an official city dance. Oh that's a good idea, It really
- 31:15is. And I'm gonna tell you something funny. I get a lot of
- 31:18calls from people thinking that we're Charleston, South Carolina. You know, as
- 31:23long as they show up, it don't matter. Yeah, as long as
- 31:27they show up. But I'm sure we can get shrimp and grit somewhere.
- 31:30So yeah, Vicky, you folks do a fantastic job, and I appreciate
- 31:33you. You and Mary Mullins and Randy and all the folks there with the
- 31:37South Charleston CVB. We'll see you. We'll see you the last couple of

- 35:13A couple of quick notes here before we get to our guest host today,
- 35:15Andy Bernhardt. First of all, thank you to everybody who made the
- 35:17sixteenth Annual Beat Backpack Attack such a huge success. Woody would g money everyone
- 35:22one of the seventh three to Beat just killed it again for the sixteenth Annual
- 35:27Backpack Attack. Of course, a big shout out Tod, Judy Motors and
- 35:30all of our sponsors for making it all possible. I pulled back Andy under
- 35:34Virginia Street. I'd run some errands and whatever, and I came back into
- 35:37Virginia Street about two o'clock yesterday afternoon. The people were already lined up all
- 35:43the way down the street. Didn't start till three, and they were lined
- 35:45up all the way down the street. We gave away about five hundred backpacks.
- 35:49I mean, you had to get it while it was hot. We
- 35:50s I saw the line four and O I was like, okay, get
- 35:52it together, people, And you know, this is a this is a
- 35:55Beat thing. But all of us are out there, of the different departments
- 35:59of the station, you know, from the sales department to engineering to you
- 36:02know, office staff whatever, out there just kind of connecting with the but
- 36:06this is all the Woody Woods came up with this thing sixteen years ago and
- 36:09it's just been absolutely fantastic. So again thanks to Todd Becky and everyone at
- 36:13Todd Judy Motors and all of our all of our sponsors for making it all
- 36:19possible. So we speaking of which, if you look over to your immediate
- 36:23left, Miss Bernhardt, on the table, you have your own beat backpack.
- 36:31That is your It's the tradition I started last year because last year,
- 36:36the day after we did the backpack attack. The day after Amanda Baron was
- 36:42our guest host. What are the chances me and her joke were the two
- 36:45abs, So it's only right, and so I gave her one. She
- 36:49actually asked for one. She actually she said can I have one? And
- 36:51I said no, but but but no, you have your own beat backpack
- 36:55attack. Now I'm back pack I should say, not backpack attack. I'll
- 36:59put it on and wear it back into the office today. So everyone else's
- 37:01got some cool stuff in it. So so there you go, enjoy enjoy
- 37:05your backpack, all right, Andy, So you're starting to see the way
- 37:08we do the things right here on Friday Funhouse from the Parmar stores to do.
- 37:13It's a thrill a minute here. But I want to hear about Andy
- 37:15Bernhardt. Where does your story begin? Originally, well, on a dark
- 37:19and gloomy to not just kidding. Well, I'm from Kenosha, Wisconsin,
- 37:22and then I went to college at Illinois State. And then I worked at
- 37:27a news station in Peoria, Illinois for a year, and then I came
- 37:30out here, worked in our Huntington Bureau, moved down to Saint Albans and
- 37:34now I'm in Charleston and here we are. And so you've been here for
- 37:37how long? Just over two years now? I think I hit my two
- 37:42years like a month or two ago. Well, obviously you must. You
- 37:45must like what you're doing here. I love it. I love the people
- 37:47here. That's been the number one favorite thing, like going out on stories.
- 37:51Everyone is just so nice and you never know what you're gonna get when
- 37:53you go out there. What is it about the area other than the people
- 37:57that you like? I mean, because there's a world of difference tween Kenosha,
- 38:00Wisconsin in Charleston, West Virginia. When I tell you when I got
- 38:04here and I saw mountains because I went to college Flatland, Illinois, it's
- 38:07just cornfields, and I saw the mountains and my jaw was on the floor.
- 38:09And then my mom was in the car next to me. She hates
- 38:13heights, and we were driving up the mountain. She was like, Andy
- 38:15Bernhard, you slowed on right now. So the mountains have been gorgeous,
- 38:17the scenery. I've gone up to New River gorge too. Great time,
- 38:21so much to do. Okay, So now have you always been Andy?
- 38:23I mean, is that that your neighbor, Because a lot of people they'll
- 38:25say it's it's Andrey Air. It's something now, So I mean, is
- 38:28that Andy the name? Yes, it's just Andy and a lot I think
- 38:30Andrew. It's from Pretty in Pink the movie. If you've seen it,
- 38:34yeah, I have. When you're a Generation X person, you know,
- 38:38I was sure if you heard of it. I was in high school when
- 38:40that movie came out. Actually very much so. So you're named after Andy
- 38:44for Pretty and Pink. See there's something you didn't know there. You go
- 38:46lunch up with meats with Andy Bernhard, and of course you got a great
- 38:50crew over there, Manda Baron. As I said, it's been one of
- 38:52my closest friends for probably twenty years. Brian Hughes, Nicky Walters, Cassidy
- 38:57Spencer, the whole gang. I think I've had just about all of them
- 39:00on the show at one time or another. They're all great. A Man
- 39:02has been a really great mentor. And then of course my morning crew they're
- 39:06great as well. They keep me entertained throughout the times. Well, any
- 39:08time me around Brian Hughes, you're gonna be entertained. Yeah, that's for
- 39:12sure. You never know what's gonna come out. That's true. Was doing
- 39:15TV news was it something you always wanted to do growing up? It actually
- 39:19was. I always just kind of thought it looks really cool, and I
- 39:22was just really into journalism and I was thinking about print. But I was
- 39:24like, I just like how TV it's more visual. You can kind of
- 39:28get all the senses with TV. Yeah, it's so much goes into it
- 39:32that people don't don't realize. And even probably as you and I were talking
- 39:37off the air, you know, radio is one thing, and I've done
- 39:39radio now for thirty five years, and but there's a difference when you have
- 39:44a camera on you and they tell me that when they redo the studios that
- 39:46they're supposed to be doing around here, that I'm actually gonna have cameras and
- 39:50you're much like Hoppy has on talk line. But I don't know how I
- 39:52feel about that. I'm gonna be really honest with you because, like you
- 39:54know, a couple of days ago, we had a little computer issue.
- 39:57Well Coop is in here kind of over top of my shoulder working. Well,
- 40:00you couldn't do that if you were on television, or probably you shouldn't
- 40:02anyway, I'll say that. And so I don't know necessarily how that's going
- 40:06to translate to television. You won't be able to get away with much.
- 40:08Yeah, that's true. They have some of the facial expressions and I have
- 40:12and whatever. You know, I don't have to have to have to work
- 40:15on that. And as someone who did morning as I did morning radio for
- 40:20twenty straight years at one station, then went away for a while too.
- 40:22Yeah, then I came back and did the mornings at a station here in
- 40:27the Charleston area for a while. My wake up time was three am and
- 40:32be in bedtime was around eight thirty or so. What about you? Because
- 40:37I know this is the question that you because people automatically when you say what
- 40:40you know, you you're on the air, because you guys go on at
- 40:43four thirty, right, Yeah, and people that's a question. You get
- 40:45that Kroger and everywhere you go into and people say what time do you go
- 40:49to bed? Yes, everybody's very curious about it. Well, so I'm
- 40:52known as like the responsible early sleeper on the crew. A lot of them
- 40:54can go on short hours, but I can't do that. I need my
- 40:57eight hours. So I try to go to bed by like six or seven,
- 41:00and then I wake up at two in the morning. Yeah. I
- 41:02mean, it's really it's just whatever you get used to. Yeah. I
- 41:06mean. I did one stint at a radio station, some filling work where
- 41:09I was doing midnight to six am. I absolutely hated it. That was
- 41:14the worst possible shift for me because I am a morning person. I even
- 41:17as a kid, my mother never had a hard time getting me out of
- 41:21bed to go to school. I just I just I was up in the
- 41:22summer. I was up at six or six thirty every morning. I mean,
- 41:25just who I am. I did a shift like that too, it
- 41:28was twelve to seven or eight, and I did horrible on that shift.
- 41:30I felt sick because I was like, oh, it's so late. It's
- 41:32a different world. It's a different kind of people that can do, you
- 41:37know, the midnight shift, or they can do the morning the morning shifts.
- 41:38It's you need the motivation when you wake up. Yeah, and then
- 41:42if you go away and you take off because I know, like you know
- 41:45Carrie Whoda Sex that does the morning news for us, carries on vacation this
- 41:47week, she'll come back next week. If you take time off, if
- 41:51you're on vacation or whatever, do you have a hard time getting back into
- 41:52the rhythm or if you're at the beach or wherever you are. You said,
- 41:55well, at six o'clock, I'm going to bed. No funny,
- 41:59I was, I'm vacation. So this week has been a little humbling,
- 42:02But it's just you kind of when you come back, you're like, you're
- 42:05just going to be sleep deprived the first day and then you'll find the rest
- 42:07of the week because you're so tired from not sleeping. Yeah. Yeah,
- 42:09it's a different world what we do. Yes, and I'm you know,
- 42:14traveling two or three other careers at the same time too, But we have

- 45:32be one of them tiktoks? Are you going to do the dances too?
- 45:36On the TikTok's absolutely not? No, no, no no. If you
- 45:38see me doing a dance, call nine to one because I'm having a seizure.
- 45:42Okay, that's not That's pretty much what it looks like. Uh okay.
- 45:49So we'll get back to Andy Burnhardt here and just a couple of moms
- 45:52getting to know her. But I want to do ten questions right now.
- 45:53These are ten totally at random questions. You have not seen the questions I'll
- 46:00all give. My producers and my rather extensive staff of the show have come
- 46:02up with these ourselves. Answer them as quickly as possible, first thing that
- 46:07comes into your mind. And as always for those listening at home, no
- 46:12wagering. Andy Barnhardt, are you ready to play ten questions? I think
- 46:15so? All right, here we go. Being that you are from Wisconsin,
- 46:21do you Wisconsin people like cheese as much as the stereotype would lead you
- 46:24to believe, and if you do. What does Andy Bernhardt's go to cheese?
- 46:30We love it more? Actually I love cheese and I love all cheese,
- 46:34but I love cheese Kurd's the best. So okay does that count?
- 46:37Yeah? Okay, sure, there's no right or wrong? Okay, okay.
- 46:42I also know by following you on social media that you're a huge Taylor
- 46:45Swift fan. Favorite Taylor Swift song? Hey, how could you do this
- 46:51to me? How am I supposed to? Fay? I can't name one?
- 46:52So so you're ahead of Maid, So go ahead. I love them
- 46:55all my favorite favorite album's reputations. I'll do off there. I like,
- 47:00are you ready for it? That's a good one. Okay, all right,
- 47:02you're in a grocery store. What is your biggest pet peeve from the
- 47:07other shoppers. I don't like when people walk solo. I'm trying to like,
- 47:10speed around grab stuff, but people are talking pulling over. I can't
- 47:15do it. Yes, I'm right there with you. Beach, Mountain or
- 47:20City. Oh, I love the Beach. The Beach. This is the
- 47:24television show that I could watch for hours or days at a time and never
- 47:30get tired of it. The Office. I think i've watched that three thousand
- 47:34times and I was like, you're done watching it? I just restarted it
- 47:37again. It's okay. Side question, favorite character in the office. See,
- 47:42that's a hard question too. I mean, Dwight's a classic, but
- 47:44I really I just love Michael. He's iconic. You never know what's going
- 47:47to come out of his mouth. I go with two of the of the
- 47:50of the more non prominent character, Stanley. Great choice, Stanley and Todd
- 47:54Packer. Oh, Todd Packer. I also love Kelly Kapor too, She's
- 47:58a good one. I've actually called Todd Packer a couple of times a thing.
- 48:02But anyways, all right, let's get back to it, all right,
- 48:06since it is back to school time, Andy, what is the name
- 48:09of the one teacher that you absolutely could not stand in school? You're really
- 48:14calling me out right now? Well, hopefully that they're not listening, right.
- 48:16I'm sure it's not list I'm sure your parents are. I'm safe because
- 48:19I'm in West Virginia. Wistunson can't see. I don't think I ever hated
- 48:22a specific teacher, but math teachers and I didn't get along because I'm horrible
- 48:27at math. So just about everybody in media isn't. I don't know why
- 48:30that Cooper you got at math? You know I got better at math in
- 48:35my adult age than I was when I was in school. Oh okay,
- 48:37I just got worse, so did I. Okay, if you weren't a
- 48:40television personality, what do you think you may be doing for your career?
- 48:45Oh that's a good question. I'm not good at answering fast either. I
- 48:50don't know. I would like to think, you know what, I went
- 48:52whitewater rafting lately. I would love to be a whitewater rafter instructor. Okay,
- 48:57why not name a task around the house that you absolutely hate doing?
- 49:00Cleaning, cooking, both. I am most comfortable when I'm wearing my sweat
- 49:07pants and hoodie. There you go, all right. Final question, where's
- 49:09your favorite place to eat in the Canala Valley? Oh? Okay, Main
- 49:14Street Cafe hands down, love me Yeah, best place, the best burgers
- 49:20around. The wings dried pickles, dipped and grilled. You gotta get the
- 49:23wings dipped and grilled. That's the only way to get them dipped and grilled.
- 49:27Is that different than the regular Yeah, they put it, they dip
- 49:30it in the sauce and then then they run it under the grill. Where
- 49:32did you learn this life hat? Why am I not knowing this? When
- 49:37I used to work in Saint Alban's and the people they're just told me.
- 49:40They said when we all went to lunch, he said, you gotta get
- 49:43the wings dipped and grilled. That's the only way to give him on my
- 49:45way. Yeah, you get to I just tried the Carolina barbecue. I
- 49:47think they call it a couple of weeks ago. There. I had never
- 49:50had it before. It's actually pretty good. All right, Well that haven't
- 49:52been said. You have completed ten questions. WHOA you did good? You
- 49:55did all right? So you posted a picture the wanting of you in your
- 50:00school days. Very nice picture, by the way. Were you a good
- 50:04student? And did young Andy enjoyce school? This is not part of ten
- 50:08questions? This is another. This is a bonus question. Yeah, yeah,
- 50:10okay. I would say I'm just was very positive and energetic. So
- 50:15I had a good attitude. But I have ADHD. So teachers didn't love
- 50:19me because I was kind of distracting. I talked too much, if you
- 50:22could believe it. So, but I got d as and b's. So
- 50:25there is a profile that would be absolutely fantastic for people. Look at my
- 50:30wife was a psychology major, even though that's not what she does for a
- 50:32living now, she was a psychology major, and we all pretty much if
- 50:37you set a bunch of radio and television people down and you talk to them,
- 50:39ninety percent of the answers are going to be the same about how they
- 50:43were to go. I was, I got an F and conduct. What
- 50:45I got an F and conduct? My teacher wrote on my report card,
- 50:50talks and talks and in the next ten weeks or whatever, still talking.
- 50:55They put on it. Yeah, that's what I did. And I get
- 50:59a lot of people say, I always knew you would do something like this
- 51:01for a living, because this is this is what we did. It's just
- 51:04kind of our personality. The ADHD is a huge, huge thing. We
- 51:07get yelled at for it, and now we get paid for it. Yeah,
- 51:09so look at it. Well, some of us still get yelled at
- 51:12for its other settings. So, uh so, why Andy said it's put
- 51:16a pleasure heavy on the on the show today, Oh yeah, one of
- 51:20the things I didn't want to ask you and Jim Strong kind of alluded to
- 51:22this. There's gonna be a big announcement coming from w w k TV thirteen.
- 51:28Now you know you care to give us a little hint, a little
- 51:30hint. Okay, what are you allowed to say so I don't get y'alled
- 51:32that for talking, right, so you don't become a permanent co host?
- 51:36Right ahead, I'll say it's a big announcement about a new face who's going
- 51:40to be adjoining Amanda Baron on the evening show. So you're definitely gonna want
- 51:45to be there for it. All right, Well, we'll be looking at
- 51:46the windessy annoucement coming tonight. It's live might be in our five o'clock too
- 51:52tonight. Okay, all right, well, very good way. Andy,
- 51:54it's been fun, it's been a great time. Thanks for having me.
- 51:57Thank you very much. Enjoy your backpack, I will. I'm wearing it
- 52:00out of here. Andy Burnhardt from WWKTV thirteen, thank you so much.
- 52:04Thanks to Jim Strawn and the folks with Live on the Levy Final, Live
- 52:07on the Levy of the Season tonight, the Beat. We'll be down there
- 52:09for that along with w WKTV thirteen, and of course we got Summer fescing
- 52:14on too, coming up on Monday show. It's Mayor Monday. Winfield Mayor
- 52:15Randy Barrett will be here. Allen Allen from the West Virginians for Affordable Healthcare
- 52:20Group will be here, and Ashley offered from the Putnam County Chamber of Ashley
- 52:23offered Glance from the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, Hobbies on Vacation, Dave
