- 0:00Speaker 1: We're back with Jim Mora. The Yukon Huskies now eight
- 0:02Speaker 1: and three on the season, wrapping up a six to
- 0:05Speaker 1: oh slate at home, first time Huskies have been undefeated
- 0:10Speaker 1: at home since twenty ten. That's fifteen years. I had
- 0:14Speaker 1: one other undefeated home slate that was in two thousand
- 0:16Speaker 1: and seven. Huskies at that point, we're riding high, struggled
- 0:21Speaker 1: for several years, Jim Moore on the scene and the
- 0:23Speaker 1: Huskies back at it at eight and three. Coach, We've
- 0:27Speaker 1: been talking offense all year because this offense with Joe
- 0:29Speaker 1: Finnano and Cam Edwards and Skyler Bell all vying for
- 0:34Speaker 1: awards as the season progresses here, and we'll get to
- 0:37Speaker 1: that in the second. But your defense has come up
- 0:40Speaker 1: with some big plays. Last play against Duke won the game.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Brian Palm all year has been fabulous, the linebacker Umar Diamonde.
- 0:49Speaker 1: These guys have over one hundred tackles each.
- 0:53Speaker 4: In a season.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I know that you're a defensive guy, and as you
- 0:57Speaker 1: look at that, you're the head coach. Obviously got to
- 1:00Speaker 1: be appreciating what those two guys are doing.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I am, and the people around them that support them,
- 1:07Speaker 2: you know, and the guys up front that take up
- 1:08Speaker 2: blocks so they can make plays. But those two guys,
- 1:11Speaker 2: you know, they're fifth and eighth in the country and tackles,
- 1:13Speaker 2: so there's their impact that's been significant. You know, Brian
- 1:17Speaker 2: is one of the believe he's thirred in the country
- 1:19Speaker 2: in sacks and eighth and tackles for loss, So.
- 1:23Speaker 3: You know, those are big plays.
- 1:24Speaker 2: And you have to have dependable guys in the middle
- 1:26Speaker 2: that are equally adept at defending the run, in the pass,
- 1:29Speaker 2: that are leadership guys that are tough, guys that are
- 1:32Speaker 2: violent that tackle well, those guys do it. You know,
- 1:35Speaker 2: our defense and as a whole, you know, Yeah, there's
- 1:39Speaker 2: been some real challenges. We had a ton of a
- 1:42Speaker 2: ton of changes in the offseason, but just impressive the
- 1:45Speaker 2: way they've come together, their commitment to getting better, which
- 1:49Speaker 2: been has been on display since we started, really since
- 1:52Speaker 2: we started in January. It's nice to just see the
- 1:57Speaker 2: payoff for the hard work and the commitment these young
- 1:59Speaker 2: men have made.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Yeah, Malachi mc McLain the dB and Cam Chadwick also
- 2:05Speaker 1: been impressive. Malachi seventy three tackles. He had some injury
- 2:10Speaker 1: things set them back a little early in the year.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But he looks to be back in.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Full full swing.
- 2:15Speaker 1: And Cam Chadwick got beat up a little bit on Saturday,
- 2:18Speaker 1: but he's got four interceptions, three breakups. Having DB's that
- 2:22Speaker 1: can come up and be sure tacklers. How important is
- 2:25Speaker 1: that to what defense is? Overall success?
- 2:28Speaker 3: Big?
- 2:28Speaker 2: It's actually important to the team. One thing that we
- 2:31Speaker 2: say here is that the toughness of your team can
- 2:34Speaker 2: be identified by the way your wide receivers block and
- 2:37Speaker 2: your corners tackle. And our wide receivers are tremendous blockers,
- 2:42Speaker 2: and our corners will you know, they'll they'll put their
- 2:45Speaker 2: face in the fan, they will go tackle.
- 2:49Speaker 1: And those guys who were banged up a little bit
- 2:52Speaker 1: on the weekend. I know you had your press conference Tuesday.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Any updates. Do you feel good about everybody being available
- 2:59Speaker 1: for the weekend or do you have to wait and
- 3:00Speaker 1: see as your practice this week?
- 3:02Speaker 3: No, I think we're in really good shape physically.
- 3:05Speaker 2: I think everyone would be back and we'll be ready
- 3:07Speaker 2: to roll.
- 3:09Speaker 4: I was looking at the rush stats.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Jim Yukon this year has run for almost two thousand
- 3:14Speaker 1: yards three hundred and forty four times five point one.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Again a run the opposition is run for more yard
- 3:22Speaker 1: is but they've also run one hundred and fifteen more
- 3:26Speaker 1: times than your team has.
- 3:27Speaker 4: You've held the opposition.
- 3:28Speaker 1: To four point four on the grounds as numbers go,
- 3:33Speaker 1: how does that fit? Is that a pretty good number
- 3:35Speaker 1: for a defense to hold an offensive running a game
- 3:38Speaker 1: to four and a half a carry.
- 3:41Speaker 3: It's okay, it's not up to our standard. You know.
- 3:44Speaker 2: One of the things that's affected that is that we've
- 3:46Speaker 2: given up some big plays on defense, and so that
- 3:52Speaker 2: you know, has a tremendous impact.
- 3:53Speaker 3: On your yards per carry.
- 3:56Speaker 2: But you know, no, we're not good enough there yet,
- 3:59Speaker 2: and well we're not good enough anywhere yet. That's if
- 4:02Speaker 2: you start thinking you're good enough in anything, then.
- 4:05Speaker 3: You start going and reverse.
- 4:06Speaker 2: So it's just a constant quest for us every day,
- 4:10Speaker 2: whether it's run defense, runoffense, past defense, pass offense, special teams,
- 4:15Speaker 2: it's just like we're never there, there's no finish line.
- 4:17Speaker 3: We're just gonna keep going.
- 4:19Speaker 1: And you've got to do that all the time with
- 4:21Speaker 1: your team.
- 4:22Speaker 4: You gotta psychologically, you got to build.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Them to feel that way and think that way. Tell
- 4:29Speaker 1: me about that. Is that something you've got to do
- 4:31Speaker 1: every day when you walk into practice and for you
- 4:34Speaker 1: I'm talking about verbally expressed to the team, or is
- 4:37Speaker 1: it something you see on the practice field that tells you,
- 4:41Speaker 1: wait a minute, we're getting sloppy.
- 4:42Speaker 4: We're getting lazy, we're doing this, we're doing that. Whatever.
- 4:45Speaker 1: How do you view that when when you do sense
- 4:48Speaker 1: it when you're on the practice field that the team
- 4:50Speaker 1: might be sliding a little bit in their prep.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Not often, and when I do, I address it, and
- 4:56Speaker 2: I call it being demanding encouraging. So yeah, I'm gonna
- 5:04Speaker 2: be very very demanding, but try to do it in
- 5:07Speaker 2: an encouraging way. You know, point out that you know
- 5:11Speaker 2: you're better than that, that's not your best. We need
- 5:14Speaker 2: more from you. You're capable of more. That wasn't up
- 5:18Speaker 2: to our standard. Live our standard, you know, said with
- 5:24Speaker 2: different voice inflections all the time and different levels of volume.
- 5:29Speaker 2: But I'm grateful that I get to coach a team
- 5:34Speaker 2: of young men that is driven, and so I don't
- 5:39Speaker 2: have to say I don't have to remind them a lot.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Now I do because I think the consistency of the
- 5:44Speaker 2: message is really important.
- 5:46Speaker 3: They need to keep hearing it, they need.
- 5:48Speaker 2: To have somebody that reinforces it all the time, and
- 5:50Speaker 2: that's my job. But I'm lucky to have a bunch
- 5:52Speaker 2: of guys that that take the message and then they
- 5:56Speaker 2: put it into action.
- 5:58Speaker 1: To that point, We're gonna talk to ar Diamonde in
- 6:01Speaker 1: a few minutes on the show and he mentions playing
- 6:04Speaker 1: for Matt Brock like he's the same every day, and
- 6:08Speaker 1: we know Brock.
- 6:09Speaker 4: You know Matt Brock. I mean that guy.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I mean, if I had the ability to put the
- 6:14Speaker 1: pads on and go out there, I'd run through a
- 6:15Speaker 1: wall for that guy. But he's his his you know,
- 6:18Speaker 1: his guy's on his unit. To a man say the
- 6:22Speaker 1: same thing, and that's got to be one of the
- 6:24Speaker 1: great assets for you as a head.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Coach without a doubt, and coach Samus is the same
- 6:30Speaker 2: way that we all know who they're going to be
- 6:33Speaker 2: every single day. They don't deviate from their their beliefs,
- 6:37Speaker 2: from the standards that they set.
- 6:39Speaker 3: They just refuse to deviate.
- 6:41Speaker 2: They keep the message tight, they keep it in alignment
- 6:43Speaker 2: with what we want to be as a football program.
- 6:47Speaker 2: You know you're not going to sneak one by him.
- 6:50Speaker 2: You know they're not going to criticize you if if
- 6:52Speaker 2: if it's not uh a situation where it's warranted and Uh.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Players like consistency, Coaches like consistency. Players want to be
- 7:04Speaker 2: held to a high standard. Coaches want to live a
- 7:07Speaker 2: high standard. So it's just a nice mix that we've got.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Jimora willis ukon Football Coaches Show continues to take a
- 7:15Speaker 1: time out here on liar Field
