- 0:34Speaker 1: most requested guests that we've ever had.
- 0:38Speaker 2: And that's the truth.
- 0:39Speaker 1: They're out of New Orleans, Louisiana, baby. You know that.
- 0:43Speaker 1: And that's where we came to spend time with them,
- 0:45Speaker 1: down here on Carondelet Street at the Maison de la
- 0:49Speaker 1: Luz Hotel. They have a new album called New World Depression.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Nobody's done it like they have. Nobody's fan base is
- 1:00Speaker 1: like theirs is. Grateful today to spend time with the
- 1:04Speaker 1: Suicide Boys.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Shine that light on me. I'll sit and tell you
- 1:13Speaker 3: my story. Shine on me and I will find.
- 1:23Speaker 2: A I've been waiting to bust these out. You picked
- 1:36Speaker 2: a good day to do it.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I might retire them after today, too. No, man. Them,
- 1:40Speaker 2: you got to do that. For you, brother, yes. For you, yes.
- 1:44Speaker 1: For Christmas or something, you got to bring them bitches back.
- 1:47Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Christmas or... Where you spend Christmas normally? You come back
- 1:51Speaker 4: to Louisiana?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Yeah. Family stuff? Yeah, every time.
- 1:54Speaker 1: My family still lives over in Mandeville.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Oh, do they? Big Mandeville. So was it Covington or Mandeville?
- 2:01Speaker 1: I grew up in Covington and I moved over to Mandeville.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I got you. Where at? Should we save this? This
- 2:06Speaker 2: stuff we want to save.
- 2:07Speaker 1: This part of the chat? We are?
- 2:09Speaker 4: Oh, we are?
- 2:10Speaker 2: Roll it up, baby.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I grew up in Covington, down by Lee Road
- 2:15Speaker 1: or whatever, by this street.
- 2:17Speaker 2: It was down there. Lee Road, boys. Oh, bro.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Woo! A lot of people, dude. A lot of homemade tattoos,
- 2:23Speaker 1: body work.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yeah. Where they.
- 2:26Speaker 2: They'll handle business and they'll bury you. You know what
- 2:29Speaker 2: I'm saying?
- 2:29Speaker 1: Oh, dude, they got kind of BYO chiropractor shit going on,
- 2:34Speaker 1: like that kind of shit.
- 2:34Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 2:36Speaker 1: They'll hook like a winch to your leg and try to,
- 2:40Speaker 1: like a truck, you know?
- 2:42Speaker 2: My dad was in jail.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Like they're pulling you out the mud. They'll try to
- 2:44Speaker 1: fix your hip like that.
- 2:45Speaker 4: My dad was in jail with a Leroy boy and
- 2:48Speaker 4: it was his roommate and that's, I got it. He
- 2:51Speaker 4: took care of him, bro. You know what I'm saying?
- 2:53Speaker 4: Like he knew the ropes. He took care of him, but.
- 2:56Speaker 4: that's uh blair you remember blair did you ever meet
- 2:58Speaker 4: blair oh yeah i did flooring with him and shit
- 3:01Speaker 4: when we first started tile down yeah yeah oh.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Yeah oh flooring is a gateway drug i feel.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Like bro i went to that job sober one day
- 3:15Speaker 4: i went to that job sober for one day just
- 3:18Speaker 4: because i didn't have shit bro and i was asked
- 3:20Speaker 4: out so i went there sober for one day and
- 3:22Speaker 4: uh By lunchtime, I was willing to suck some dick
- 3:26Speaker 4: for something. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Some female dick, let's say that.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that's cool. So 2024 dick. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:36Speaker 5: My friend had a joke of how people in Louisiana,
- 3:39Speaker 5: like blue-collar guys, workers, they'll verbally express their resume to
- 3:43Speaker 5: you to hire them, but their resume is like, oh,
- 3:45Speaker 5: I don't do pills no more. I do good work,
- 3:47Speaker 5: like whatever. And that's how they get the job.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I'd rather hire you if you do do pills. They
- 3:51Speaker 2: do better work.
- 3:51Speaker 1: 90 degree angles only, bro. One dude told me once. Yeah,
- 3:56Speaker 1: that's what we expected.
- 3:57Speaker 2: When I was off that shit, bro, I was on it, bro. Really?
- 3:59Speaker 2: Employee of the month. Nuh-uh. Depends on which specific one
- 4:03Speaker 2: it was.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 4:04Speaker 5: When I was managing a restaurant, Xanax was not my friend.
- 4:06Speaker 5: I let them do whatever they wanted.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I think that's where me and you differ. They were
- 4:11Speaker 2: all my friends.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Really?
- 4:13Speaker 2: Yeah, some were better friends than others. Well, if you
- 4:15Speaker 2: want to get into that.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I mean, who was a better, I don't know if
- 4:18Speaker 1: there's a term for better drug user. I wasn't good
- 4:21Speaker 1: at it. I think I was too sensitive with drugs.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Scott and I were both way too good at it.
- 4:28Speaker 4: He started young. I started young. I started young. And
- 4:33Speaker 4: then basically by 16, by 16, I was- I had
- 4:40Speaker 4: my first pain pill. I was drinking before that. And
- 4:42Speaker 4: every time I drank, I blacked out. Like, you know
- 4:45Speaker 4: what I'm talking about. I couldn't help it.
- 4:47Speaker 1: So you would do it every time.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Oh yeah. Every time it wasn't like, Scott was balls
- 4:50Speaker 2: to the walls, balls to the wall every time. Yeah.
- 4:53Speaker 4: I had no control whatsoever, but I took my first
- 4:55Speaker 4: pain pill at 16. And then from then I was like, fuck,
- 4:59Speaker 4: I want to, I want to feel like this every day.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Like I get it now.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Cause I grew up the way I grew up. I
- 5:06Speaker 2: hated all that shit from just growing up. I did.
- 5:08Speaker 4: And I was like, I, I'm never going to touch
- 5:11Speaker 4: any of that shit. And I didn't for a long
- 5:12Speaker 4: time until I did. And then once I did, you.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Know, it's like, I get it. I get it now.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I get why.
- 5:19Speaker 4: So from 16 on to 2019, every day, yeah, it
- 5:25Speaker 4: was everyday balls to the wall. It started with pain pills,
- 5:28Speaker 4: went to stronger pain pills, went to heroin. Then the
- 5:33Speaker 4: worst it got was toward the end where I was
- 5:36Speaker 4: just speedballing all day like, 20 Adderall a day, 20
- 5:41Speaker 4: Xanax a day to calm me down from that.
- 5:44Speaker 5: That's the Louisiana speed bump.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:47Speaker 2: And then, you know, whatever, opiates, we can get fentanyl patches, whatever, dude. Oh, yeah.
- 5:52Speaker 1: People will do pickleback heroin in Louisiana. People will be like,
- 5:57Speaker 1: what are you doing, bro?
- 5:58Speaker 5: Shit, that drug's always been super prevalent down here, especially
- 6:02Speaker 5: in New Orleans, you know?
- 6:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:04Speaker 1: What about your, like, do you remember taking your first
- 6:07Speaker 1: pain pill ever or no?
- 6:08Speaker 2: I do.
- 6:08Speaker 4: I do.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Wow.
- 6:10Speaker 2: I had surgery when I was 13.
- 6:11Speaker 5: I had two screws put in my ankles for a
- 6:16Speaker 5: skateboarding injury that I got into when I was 13.
- 6:18Speaker 5: And they did surgery. And then I was prescribed Vicodin.
- 6:21Speaker 5: And I would just lay in my bed. The Vicodin
- 6:24Speaker 5: pill bottle would be above on my headboard. And every
- 6:26Speaker 5: few hours, I was supposed to take one. And I
- 6:30Speaker 5: got hooked. And after I got recovered and I started
- 6:33Speaker 5: being a teenager and being social and all that stuff,
- 6:35Speaker 5: that's what I wanted to find was painkillers.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I remember once I took a couple of somas, bro,
- 6:40Speaker 1: and I didn't, I felt like I didn't have any
- 6:42Speaker 1: arms for almost half a day.
- 6:43Speaker 5: Well, like the Trinity is supposed to be a Percocet,
- 6:47Speaker 5: a Soma, and a Xanax. You ever seen the pharmacist
- 6:49Speaker 5: that like documentary on that?
- 6:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:51Speaker 4: That was the thing, bro.
- 6:52Speaker 2: It was like 200, 200 lower tabs, 180 Xanax and
- 6:54Speaker 2: 120 Soma. It was like the Trinity that they prescribed
- 6:57Speaker 2: to everyone.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Yeah, oh, I remember they busted a mall Santa in
- 7:07Speaker 1: Tarrytown with like 100 somas on him or something.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Shout out big Tarrytown.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Yeah, bro. A town full of so many Terrys, they
- 7:15Speaker 2: named it after them. It's crazy, bro.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Hey, Terry will get you flooring, bro. Some dudes, they
- 7:21Speaker 1: were so fucked up, they put flooring on the ceiling, bro.
- 7:24Speaker 1: You're like, damn, bro, this dude put flooring on everything.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Oh, my God, dude. They'll floor your yard in Louisiana, bro.
- 7:31Speaker 2: They don't give a fuck, dude. They'll floor a baby crib.
- 7:34Speaker 2: They'll floor it, damn, bro. New tile for the baby crew.
- 7:36Speaker 2: They'll floor your grandfather, bro.
- 7:38Speaker 4: You'll leave him sitting.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Around long enough. The mausoleum's got new tiles. Yeah, fucking right.
- 7:42Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 7:43Speaker 1: You guys, that's crazy. You remember your first pain pill. Oh, yeah.
- 7:47Speaker 1: That's crazy to think of how strong they are and
- 7:49Speaker 1: how powerful they are, that that's like a core memory.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Bro, it's like a very euphoric, it's almost like a
- 7:55Speaker 2: coming to Jesus moment. It's like this, ah. Mine happened
- 7:59Speaker 2: in a different situation. My papa died.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Had passed away when I was 16, and he was
- 8:06Speaker 4: like my dad. Me and him were super tight.
- 8:11Speaker 2: I loved that man.
- 8:12Speaker 4: And when he passed away, I came across a pain pill.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Coping with the sadness?
- 8:17Speaker 4: Yeah, and at that point, I was just like, this
- 8:20Speaker 4: is too painful. I can't deal with this.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Fuck it.
- 8:25Speaker 4: And he had his funeral that day. For me, it
- 8:28Speaker 4: had the opposite effect. I didn't get sick. I didn't
- 8:31Speaker 4: get tired. I felt great.
- 8:35Speaker 2: I know. I felt euphoric. You know what I'm saying?
- 8:38Speaker 2: I was running around the funeral home. I gave a eulogy.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Everybody stand.
- 8:43Speaker 5: You'll get a goddamn emancipation proclamation.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Look, I will say to this day, I've heard it's
- 8:49Speaker 1: the only eulogy with a trap beat behind it. So
- 8:53Speaker 1: I am saying that that's the rumor.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Going around, bro. DJ Scream with that eulogy. Dang, that's crazy.
- 9:00Speaker 1: So do you think you would have been able to
- 9:01Speaker 1: get that eulogy if you weren't on the pills?
- 9:03Speaker 4: No.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Wow. I was too hurt.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I wonder if that's how, like, I wonder if that,
- 9:09Speaker 1: was that like the first time you ever, like, kind
- 9:10Speaker 1: of spoke?
- 9:11Speaker 2: It was the.
- 9:12Speaker 4: First time in my life that I was comfortable in
- 9:16Speaker 4: my skin. That I felt like my whole life, like,
- 9:20Speaker 4: there was something off. Like, I didn't belong here. You
- 9:23Speaker 4: know what I'm saying?
- 9:23Speaker 2: Like, I could never be comfortable in my own skin.
- 9:27Speaker 4: That was the first time where that happened to me.
- 9:30Speaker 2: I felt good. I didn't have a care in the world.
- 9:34Speaker 4: And I was like, I made it a point. I
- 9:38Speaker 4: told myself, I remember, I'm going to feel like this
- 9:41Speaker 4: every day for the rest of my life. And that's
- 9:43Speaker 4: what I set out to do from the time I
- 9:45Speaker 4: woke up to the time I went to sleep.
- 9:49Speaker 1: So how does music even get started then by you
- 9:52Speaker 1: guys if y'all are already... Well, It's hard to get
- 9:57Speaker 1: a pillhead to finish painting the bassboards, dude.
- 9:59Speaker 2: I'm probably the most productive.
- 10:01Speaker 5: If you hold pills above their head, you can get
- 10:03Speaker 5: them to do anything you want. Anything you want, they'll
- 10:05Speaker 5: do it. I don't know.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Our paths started differently.
- 10:10Speaker 5: Yeah, and it wasn't like we were so fucked in
- 10:13Speaker 5: the beginning. It was very much a fun thing, and
- 10:16Speaker 5: we were ignorant and thinking like, That story that you
- 10:19Speaker 5: hear about death and jail, that's not going to happen
- 10:21Speaker 5: to us. Because we're smarter than that. We know how
- 10:23Speaker 5: to do this the right way. But give it 10 years,
- 10:26Speaker 5: and we're at that point. So the music always came first.
- 10:31Speaker 5: It was never drugs first. The music was always first.
- 10:33Speaker 5: And then at some point, the lines got blurred a
- 10:36Speaker 5: little bit.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Yeah, so then who starts the music first, man? Because
- 10:40Speaker 1: one thing that's crazy about you guys' music, I was
- 10:42Speaker 1: listening to so much of it over the past month,
- 10:44Speaker 1: trying to decipher, like, OK, is there certain people Like,
- 10:49Speaker 1: where did some of the sounds come from? Like, little things.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Sometimes I hear a little bit of, like, Bone Thug
- 10:54Speaker 1: maybe I would hear.
- 10:55Speaker 2: You used to get that so much when we first started.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Did you really?
- 10:58Speaker 2: We used to get it compared to Bone Thugs all
- 10:59Speaker 2: the time.
- 11:00Speaker 1: But then sometimes I would be watching, I would almost
- 11:02Speaker 1: think of that movie Gummo or something a little bit.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Did you ever see that movie?
- 11:06Speaker 2: I've never seen Gummo. He's seen a lot of movies.
- 11:07Speaker 1: It's super artistic and, like, bizarre. It's very bizarre. And
- 11:13Speaker 1: kind of, like, off-violent kind of, like, Yeah, I mean,
- 11:18Speaker 1: even just looking at that picture.
- 11:19Speaker 2: It's disturbing. Like, it's a disturbing movie.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And I was like, this shit, it's like, it feels,
- 11:25Speaker 1: it's music, but it feels like a disturbance. That's what
- 11:30Speaker 1: you guys start, like, some of y'all's stuff feels like
- 11:32Speaker 1: that to me. Yeah. Like, I want to disturb shit.
- 11:35Speaker 5: Yeah, we want to disturb shit. We want to make
- 11:37Speaker 5: people feel weird. We want to make people feel, I
- 11:39Speaker 5: don't know, at first we were super edgy, like, just
- 11:41Speaker 5: saying crazy shit just to see reactions out of people.
- 11:44Speaker 4: Going for the shock factor.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Shock value, all that thing. Yeah.
- 11:48Speaker 1: But you must have liked that. Like, there's a thing
- 11:50Speaker 1: that you, you know what I'm saying?
- 11:52Speaker 2: I like pressing buttons.
- 11:53Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah. For me, I grew up on, like, 3-6.
- 11:56Speaker 4: That was my biggest influence in old Memphis.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Which is like the spine of suicide. Yeah, yeah, like
- 12:03Speaker 2: old Memphis music from, like, the 90s.
- 12:05Speaker 4: And my uncle put me on that when I was, like,
- 12:07Speaker 4: eight years old, and I just got obsessed. But other
- 12:11Speaker 4: than that, I came from more of, like, a trap.
- 12:14Speaker 4: music background, like trap house dope deal and all that shit.
- 12:19Speaker 4: And then him from the punk background.
- 12:22Speaker 5: And like hip hop. I was on the hip hop tip.
- 12:25Speaker 5: I was like an old head at like 25 years old.
- 12:27Speaker 5: I was bringing like boom bap. I was like, this
- 12:31Speaker 5: isn't philosophical enough for me. That's where we differ also.
- 12:36Speaker 5: He made me realize that I was taking myself way
- 12:38Speaker 5: too seriously. as far as like my taste in music goes.
- 12:41Speaker 5: And I think a lot of people from New Orleans
- 12:43Speaker 5: have like this elitist taste in music because you know,
- 12:45Speaker 5: the city's pretty like, you know, there's music everywhere, every day,
- 12:48Speaker 5: every night, there's music all over the place. So I
- 12:51Speaker 5: think growing up here, you kind of like, at least
- 12:53Speaker 5: I did develop this elite taste and he's the one
- 12:55Speaker 5: that kind of knocked me down a couple pegs. And
- 12:57Speaker 5: I realized, oh, some music is just fun. It doesn't
- 13:00Speaker 5: have to be so serious like with a message and shit.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. That's the vibe I get from like, and
- 13:05Speaker 1: even getting a, go to a, Go to one of
- 13:08Speaker 1: y'all shows, just like, there's this legion of people that
- 13:12Speaker 1: wanna just have this experience. They wanna be in this
- 13:18Speaker 1: disturbing moment. They like the song, but it's almost like
- 13:22Speaker 1: they're anthems too to them. To feelings that they have.
- 13:26Speaker 1: It's interesting.
- 13:27Speaker 2: That's a good way to put it, bro.
- 13:28Speaker 5: Dude, it's a lot of, a lot of these kids
- 13:30Speaker 5: are like misfits and outcasts and weirdos. And like he said,
- 13:33Speaker 5: never felt comfortable in his own skin. I can relate
- 13:34Speaker 5: to that very well, myself. So I think we provide
- 13:39Speaker 5: a place for these kids to feel like they're surrounded
- 13:41Speaker 5: by their people.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Yeah. And they come and they like, yeah.
- 13:45Speaker 5: And that's like this, this emotional, like, um, they can
- 13:48Speaker 5: like get their emotions out by getting in the pit
- 13:52Speaker 5: or yelling lyrics or like, you know, maybe you'll meet
- 13:54Speaker 5: a girl there.
- 13:54Speaker 2: You might meet your best friend there.
- 13:56Speaker 5: I always like to think that after these shows, like
- 13:58Speaker 5: these kids stay in touch and like, yeah, it's like
- 14:01Speaker 5: whole community.
- 14:02Speaker 2: And they do. I've seen it. They do.
- 14:04Speaker 4: And, I think they share a connection with us, which
- 14:08Speaker 4: I love because I don't ever want them to look
- 14:13Speaker 4: at us as, I want us to be humanized to them.
- 14:17Speaker 4: For sure.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Oh, it felt like it did.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I remember even going from backstage and being around the
- 14:21Speaker 1: people that the night I was there, I think you
- 14:23Speaker 1: guys had Shakewell.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Nashville? Yeah, Nashville.
- 14:27Speaker 1: And who else? Tall Black Dude.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Germ.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Nyle Lavelle. Nyle Lavelle was there. Shakewell Cheddar was there.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Cheddar was there. He had Turnstile. No, not that. Pouya? Pouya, no.
- 14:41Speaker 2: And he wasn't there. Yeah, Cheddar was there.
- 14:45Speaker 1: But I remember from even just the people that were backstage,
- 14:48Speaker 1: the people working with y'all. To the crowd, I couldn't
- 14:52Speaker 1: tell the difference between who the fuck was who anyway.
- 14:54Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? I accused seven people of
- 14:56Speaker 1: being the damn Shakewell and Chet. I met two girls
- 15:01Speaker 1: that looked like Chet. And look, Chet is a handsome guy.
- 15:05Speaker 4: He's a good looking dude.
- 15:06Speaker 2: And they were pretty girls.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I'm just saying, it felt like all the same people.
- 15:12Speaker 1: It just feels like... It doesn't feel like there's a...
- 15:16Speaker 1: It's uniform.
- 15:17Speaker 2: It's like.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:18Speaker 1: It doesn't feel like you guys are in a superior place.
- 15:21Speaker 4: I don't ever want anyone to feel like I think
- 15:25Speaker 4: I'm better than them.
- 15:27Speaker 2: I don't like that. You know what I'm saying? I
- 15:30Speaker 2: don't like that at all.
- 15:31Speaker 4: I never want to be looked at as if I
- 15:32Speaker 4: punched down or anything. Yeah, no. I hope I would
- 15:38Speaker 4: never put myself out there to be looked at in
- 15:40Speaker 4: that light because I don't feel like I'm better than...
- 15:42Speaker 4: even the people that come to the show, I don't
- 15:44Speaker 4: feel like I'm better than any of them. The people
- 15:46Speaker 4: that are helping us at the shows and working and
- 15:49Speaker 4: putting the sets together and security.
- 15:51Speaker 2: I mean, we thank them every night.
- 15:52Speaker 5: We thank the security and then the venue workers because
- 15:54Speaker 5: it's true, without them, you know, it takes a lot
- 15:57Speaker 5: of people to throw a show and to throw a
- 15:58Speaker 5: tour and it's not just all about the glitz and
- 16:01Speaker 5: the glamour because we, people know our names and our faces.
- 16:04Speaker 5: You know, a lot of people put hard work into
- 16:06Speaker 5: this and, you know, Scott and I have been able
- 16:08Speaker 5: to remain humble throughout all of this and, We love
- 16:12Speaker 5: meeting the fans and talking with them, but we do
- 16:16Speaker 5: have our boundaries. And we've never been a dick to
- 16:19Speaker 5: the fans except if they deserved it. You know, I
- 16:22Speaker 5: use that word loosely, but, you know, kind of crossing
- 16:24Speaker 5: that boundaries and posing on our personal space a little
- 16:27Speaker 5: too much to where we have to say something.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:29Speaker 4: I got into it with a commie in my comments
- 16:32Speaker 4: the other day. You know, like shit like that.
- 16:33Speaker 2: A communist guy? Yeah.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 16:35Speaker 2: He said he was going to come take all my shit.
- 16:38Speaker 2: I had to let him know. Come try.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Dude, to take all somebody's shit, that would take two
- 16:44Speaker 1: or three days, bro.
- 16:45Speaker 2: You can't. He told me I was outnumbered. I don't know.
- 16:48Speaker 2: He had an ex-girl.
- 16:49Speaker 5: I'm sorry this is too much, but he had an
- 16:50Speaker 5: ex-girl take all his shit out of his house in
- 16:51Speaker 5: a couple days.
- 16:52Speaker 2: That was possible. It's possible. I was in rehab with
- 16:57Speaker 2: a bag of.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Underwear, some shirts from H & M that Kyle bought
- 17:00Speaker 4: me for rehab and like fucking 10 grand left in
- 17:04Speaker 4: my name, which sounds like a lot to some people,
- 17:06Speaker 4: but You know, I mean, at the time, bro, I probably,
- 17:09Speaker 4: I had like a million dollar house and what, a
- 17:13Speaker 4: million dollars, you would say?
- 17:14Speaker 2: And I was, that's what I was down to.
- 17:16Speaker 4: Wow. Yeah, dude.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Well, it's funny because sometimes when you go to rehab
- 17:21Speaker 1: and shit, people will pack a bag and the most
- 17:23Speaker 1: thing they put in there the most, bro. underpants bro
- 17:26Speaker 1: it's almost like it's important but it's like bro at
- 17:29Speaker 1: least help me i was like i'll figure the rest
- 17:31Speaker 1: out yeah you know what i'm saying you'll see somebody
- 17:33Speaker 1: in rehab wearing like underpants as a shirt oh bro
- 17:35Speaker 1: i went to i went to like target before i
- 17:37Speaker 1: went to rehab and just bought all cozy comfortable clothes
- 17:41Speaker 1: ruby's in a bunch of onesies that is something he
- 17:45Speaker 1: would do i mean at that you can't go anywhere
- 17:48Speaker 1: you can't do anything you don't have a phone so
- 17:50Speaker 1: what's the point in like trying to dress to impress
- 17:52Speaker 1: like Ruby's.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Got one of those portable fireplaces. Yeah. They had Roku's
- 17:57Speaker 2: in the, um.
- 17:59Speaker 1: So when you guys first start putting the tunes together,
- 18:01Speaker 1: then how does that kind of happen? I mean, I
- 18:03Speaker 1: know there's a lot of lore out there, but I
- 18:04Speaker 1: just want my fan base to know too, man, that,
- 18:06Speaker 1: you know, you guys are out of Louisiana. You guys
- 18:07Speaker 1: have created this universe. That's really super unique, man. Like
- 18:11Speaker 1: you guys, this thing is, um, it's its own thing.
- 18:15Speaker 1: It's its own fan base. It's its own, I never
- 18:19Speaker 1: know who will be a Suicide Boys fan.
- 18:21Speaker 2: That's a good point, bro.
- 18:23Speaker 4: It trips me out, too, bro. I don't think we
- 18:27Speaker 4: haven't gotten used to any of this either, bro.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Like, even coming.
- 18:31Speaker 4: Here today, it was, like, really nerve-wracking. You know, we're
- 18:33Speaker 4: really introverted. But as far as the music, I mean,
- 18:36Speaker 4: when you say, like, how does it get created, are
- 18:38Speaker 4: you talking about, like, from a creative standpoint when we
- 18:41Speaker 4: get together and actually make the song or like, how
- 18:44Speaker 4: did we get together and get to this point?
- 18:46Speaker 2: Yeah, you mean like the origin or like?
- 18:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I know you guys are cousins, right? I know
- 18:49Speaker 1: you guys have that family. I mean, I even think
- 18:50Speaker 1: that you guys look alike. People tell you that a lot?
- 18:52Speaker 2: Our moms are sisters. Oh, yeah? He looks kind of
- 18:55Speaker 2: like my brother, but I don't think we've ever gotten
- 18:56Speaker 2: compared personally. Maybe when we were younger.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:59Speaker 2: When we were younger.
- 19:00Speaker 1: But it's just, it's the kind of wildest sound or
- 19:03Speaker 1: feeling or thing to come out of New Orleans. It's
- 19:06Speaker 1: really interesting because you wouldn't think it. Say if you
- 19:09Speaker 1: played you guys' music for People from, you know, and
- 19:11Speaker 1: they were like, where do you think this came out of?
- 19:13Speaker 1: I don't know if they would say New York, you know?
- 19:15Speaker 1: I don't know if they wouldn't.
- 19:16Speaker 4: Right.
- 19:16Speaker 2: I agree.
- 19:17Speaker 1: But it's just, what you guys have is so unique.
- 19:19Speaker 1: It's not mainstream. It's your own thing. It's huge. I mean,
- 19:22Speaker 1: you guys play, you guys are playing arenas, you know?
- 19:24Speaker 1: It's like, it's fucking crazy.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it is.
- 19:27Speaker 1: And it's kind of, it's all you and your fans thing, right?
- 19:31Speaker 1: That's what I think is, feels like it's y'all's thing.
- 19:34Speaker 1: It almost feels I almost feel like an outsider even
- 19:36Speaker 1: getting to spend time with you in a way. Right.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I mean, you and I are close and and I'm
- 19:42Speaker 1: grateful to, you know, we're both from Louisiana. But and
- 19:46Speaker 1: so I'm grateful for it. But still, I know that
- 19:48Speaker 1: that's y'all's world.
- 19:49Speaker 4: Right.
- 19:50Speaker 1: And, um, so I guess what I'm asking, yeah. Like
- 19:53Speaker 1: how does that first thing start to kick off and
- 19:55Speaker 1: how do you know you're making something that you feel
- 19:58Speaker 1: brave enough to put out there?
- 19:59Speaker 2: Or were you just wait? Were you just kind of?
- 20:01Speaker 2: So he started off, like he used to rap, and
- 20:06Speaker 2: you were in a lot of bands growing up.
- 20:09Speaker 4: My path was different. I started off DJing when I
- 20:13Speaker 4: was 13. I was listening to Q93. You know Q93.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, bro. And DJ Ro was on there, and it.
- 20:19Speaker 4: Was the first time I ever heard someone blend two
- 20:22Speaker 4: songs together, and it tripped me out. So my parents
- 20:25Speaker 4: got me like this little $ 100 CD. DJ set up
- 20:29Speaker 4: for Christmas. I started from there. Fast forward, you know,
- 20:32Speaker 4: I'm DJing parties, all that, throughout high school. Oh, that
- 20:37Speaker 4: was some fire, huh? Friday, yeah, it went down. It
- 20:42Speaker 4: went down. Kyle knows.
- 20:43Speaker 2: It went down. People needed you then, bro. We had
- 20:45Speaker 2: some good times, bro. It was wild. Legendary times.
- 20:50Speaker 4: And then 19, fast forward, I'm about 19, and that's
- 20:54Speaker 4: when I got into producing. and engineering, like recording people
- 20:59Speaker 4: and mixing. I never really wanted to rap. I would
- 21:01Speaker 4: do it for fun, but I never, I thought it
- 21:04Speaker 4: was whack to be white and be a rapper. I
- 21:07Speaker 4: didn't see too many out there that pulled it off good.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Yeah, you got to really know you can do it.
- 21:11Speaker 4: Yeah, so I was like, I always felt like my
- 21:14Speaker 4: place was more behind the scenes. And then I'd made
- 21:18Speaker 4: a couple mixtapes for fun while on like my off
- 21:22Speaker 4: days when I was working at the furniture store.
- 21:24Speaker 2: He reaches back out to me. He was selling furniture, bro.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Winer Court, bro.
- 21:27Speaker 4: Signing used furniture out there.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Yeah, bro. Who was it for, bro? What furniture? Winer Court. Yeah,
- 21:33Speaker 2: Winer Court, bro.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Dude, I rented some shit for a fucking Winer Court
- 21:38Speaker 1: one time. During Katrina, I had an apartment or something,
- 21:41Speaker 1: and we put some furniture in there, some Winer Court, bro.
- 21:44Speaker 1: And somebody, yeah, some dude stole, like, we had three
- 21:47Speaker 1: Ottomans in that bitch, bro. Some dude took just the Ottomans.
- 21:50Speaker 1: That was a crazy thing, you know. You don't see
- 21:53Speaker 1: a lot of just solely Ottoman theft.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I don't. You can take the love seat, bro.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Because who's going to lay on the floor and just
- 22:00Speaker 1: put their feet up?
- 22:01Speaker 2: He must have been desperate, bro. So that guy's a
- 22:04Speaker 2: real adventure guy. Yeah, I like it. I like his style.
- 22:07Speaker 4: I wouldn't even be mad at him, you know what
- 22:09Speaker 4: I'm saying?
- 22:10Speaker 2: If you're just taking an ottoman, I ain't even.
- 22:11Speaker 1: So when people came in the door, you was showing
- 22:13Speaker 1: the furniture?
- 22:14Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, bro.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Oh, my. Well, if I could, fuck it, that would
- 22:17Speaker 1: be my dream, dude, if I showed up and you
- 22:19Speaker 1: got to show me furniture.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I had to fade back then. My face had to
- 22:23Speaker 2: be shaved.
- 22:24Speaker 4: I had to wear makeup on my hands at one
- 22:26Speaker 4: point because I got my hands tattooed, which ultimately got
- 22:29Speaker 4: me fired. But I worked there for like three years.
- 22:34Speaker 4: And then we were like, we would keep in touch
- 22:37Speaker 4: with each other. He would hit me up. And I
- 22:40Speaker 4: think it was around, yeah, it was when I got fired.
- 22:44Speaker 4: I don't know if you had just graduated from Loyola,
- 22:47Speaker 4: but he wanted to come and film a music video
- 22:50Speaker 4: for one of my songs, which I thought he was
- 22:53Speaker 4: trolling me the whole time.
- 22:54Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? He said no the first time. Yeah,
- 22:57Speaker 2: he's fucking with me.
- 22:58Speaker 4: He said no. He's the one. That convinced me. He's like, nah,
- 23:02Speaker 4: you're actually pretty good at rapping, bro. You should take
- 23:04Speaker 4: this serious. And then from there, that's how we linked up.
- 23:08Speaker 2: We did that video. And then.
- 23:13Speaker 4: G59 came about because that was like our little clique back.
- 23:17Speaker 2: In high school. And even a little bit after high school,
- 23:19Speaker 2: we thought we were thugs, bro.
- 23:21Speaker 4: We thought we were gangsters and shit. And everybody on
- 23:25Speaker 4: the east side of Highway 59 and our color was gray.
- 23:28Speaker 4: We thought we were banging and shit.
- 23:29Speaker 2: We thought we were bad.
- 23:31Speaker 4: And a lot of those guys either died from drug
- 23:35Speaker 4: overdoses or got in trouble or some shit. So, but
- 23:39Speaker 4: we kept the name alive by like, we got together,
- 23:42Speaker 4: we're like, all right, you know, let's.
- 23:44Speaker 2: The name was already there. Yeah. He was, yeah. Adi
- 23:47Speaker 2: was the one that pointed that out. Like, this is,
- 23:49Speaker 2: let's roll with this.
- 23:50Speaker 5: Well, I just thought G59, Gray59 was a hard ass
- 23:53Speaker 5: fucking name and he was already repping it.
- 23:55Speaker 2: So I figured we linked up. Why not just run
- 23:57Speaker 2: with that? Yeah. You know. Anything I missed? Like.
- 24:00Speaker 5: I was actually going to say, I was going to
- 24:03Speaker 5: say it's funny because when he started making beats back
- 24:06Speaker 5: in like 2008, 2009, he bought a Mac book, started
- 24:09Speaker 5: making beats. And around that time I was getting really
- 24:11Speaker 5: into like hip hop and currency and stuff like being
- 24:14Speaker 5: from down here. And I, he was telling me he
- 24:16Speaker 5: was making beats and I was like, yo, can you
- 24:18Speaker 5: show me how you do this? Like I would be
- 24:20Speaker 5: interested in learning. He's like, yeah, I got you. And
- 24:23Speaker 5: he's like, show me how he does it. And I,
- 24:24Speaker 5: he taught me how to make beats. It's just so
- 24:26Speaker 5: funny that now we're still doing the same shit.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know? Yeah.
- 24:30Speaker 1: So it just kind of evolved from there and then
- 24:32Speaker 1: you start putting on shows locally?
- 24:33Speaker 4: Yeah, we would use, we would book shows on like
- 24:35Speaker 4: the North Shore and Baton Rouge or whatever because, all right,
- 24:38Speaker 4: let me be real with you. We knew no one
- 24:40Speaker 4: was going to come. No one knew who the fuck
- 24:41Speaker 4: we were. We were just starting out.
- 24:43Speaker 5: So we knew, we didn't expect anybody to come and
- 24:45Speaker 5: we would use those live shows as practice to see
- 24:49Speaker 5: what is going to work, what's not going to work.
- 24:51Speaker 5: the things we can do to fuck with the crowd
- 24:52Speaker 5: and all that stuff.
- 24:53Speaker 2: And at first.
- 24:54Speaker 4: We did a lot of open mics, too.
- 24:55Speaker 2: A lot of open mics.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Wow.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Open mic. We actually won one of them.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Performing or just as comedy or as music?
- 25:00Speaker 2: As music.
- 25:01Speaker 4: It was like bands and rappers and all sorts of shit.
- 25:03Speaker 2: To win like $ 1, 000. Right, right.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Win $ 1, 000 unlimited or waste.
- 25:06Speaker 4: And on our third time we did it, we finally won.
- 25:09Speaker 5: We won and we just took all that money and
- 25:11Speaker 5: bought T-shirts, like blanks, and then we just printed all
- 25:14Speaker 5: our own T-shirts.
- 25:16Speaker 2: We would literally.
- 25:17Speaker 5: text people, like, want to buy one? And then Scott would, like,
- 25:19Speaker 5: drive it to them and deliver it.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Bro, that's still what you guys, this whole thing feels
- 25:23Speaker 1: like to me. It doesn't feel small like that, but
- 25:26Speaker 1: it feels like that.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Well, dude.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Because I'll see, like, fonts and things, and it's like,
- 25:31Speaker 1: I don't understand it because I haven't known the music
- 25:33Speaker 1: from the beginning, right? Yeah. So I'm like, oh, this
- 25:35Speaker 1: is their world, but it's just beloved in that space,
- 25:38Speaker 1: you know?
- 25:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:39Speaker 5: And it's interesting that you say that because, fuck, what
- 25:43Speaker 5: did you just say?
- 25:44Speaker 2: Remind me what you just said.
- 25:45Speaker 4: About the.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Yeah, you drove, you would drive over the delivery.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Oh, right. So it is, in a way, it still
- 25:51Speaker 2: feels the same. It is the same.
- 25:53Speaker 4: Our roots.
- 25:53Speaker 5: You know, obviously we're not driving t-shirts to people anymore,
- 25:56Speaker 5: but Scott and I are still very much involved, very hands-on.
- 25:59Speaker 2: And I think we fucking care, dude.
- 26:02Speaker 5: This is our baby and we love it and it's
- 26:04Speaker 5: loved us back and we want to take care of it.
- 26:06Speaker 5: And distancing ourselves from it because we've gained money and
- 26:10Speaker 5: egos is not.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Really something that we're interested in doing. We're very aware
- 26:14Speaker 1: of that too, you know. Yeah, this shit has saved
- 26:17Speaker 1: our lives, bro.
- 26:18Speaker 4: I don't know any other force or consequence that might
- 26:22Speaker 4: have been powerful enough to make us even consider to
- 26:27Speaker 4: go get help and get clean.
- 26:29Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 26:30Speaker 4: Because we had something to live for. We had something
- 26:32Speaker 4: to lose. Not just the business, not just the label,
- 26:35Speaker 4: but each other.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:37Speaker 2: It's bigger than us, dude. We employ people.
- 26:39Speaker 4: It's way bigger than me, him, and it's bigger than
- 26:42Speaker 4: any of us, bro.
- 26:43Speaker 5: I think that's something, like he just said, that we
- 26:45Speaker 5: tell ourselves constantly to just keep ourselves down to earth.
- 26:50Speaker 5: Because it's easy, dude, to be successful and get caught
- 26:53Speaker 5: up in yourself. It's easy because if anything, you have
- 26:56Speaker 5: to fight that shit off.
- 26:57Speaker 2: I'm sure you know, bro.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a battle I've dealt with, and some days
- 27:02Speaker 1: I win, some days I lose. Over time, it's gotten better. Yeah,
- 27:06Speaker 1: and especially if you're hands-on, you're doing things, and that
- 27:09Speaker 1: becomes a part of it because you want everything to
- 27:11Speaker 1: be perfect. Learning to let other people help you. And
- 27:15Speaker 1: then your ego can build without you even noticing it.
- 27:18Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 27:18Speaker 1: You think like, oh, I'm just proud of myself, but
- 27:20Speaker 1: 95% of that cup could be ego.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Oh, yes, bro.
- 27:24Speaker 1: It's interesting, man.
- 27:25Speaker 2: It is. It is.
- 27:26Speaker 1: I think it's funny you say that, though, Scott, like
- 27:28Speaker 1: about something saving you. Yeah, there's a lot of times
- 27:31Speaker 1: where if I didn't have to apply, I'm like, there's
- 27:34Speaker 1: some temptation that'll happen the night before and be like,
- 27:36Speaker 1: I got a podcast tomorrow. Or I have a show
- 27:38Speaker 1: to do. I have some responsibility. I got to get
- 27:40Speaker 1: an edit for my producers or one of them's waiting
- 27:43Speaker 1: on an email from me or something or I'm waiting
- 27:45Speaker 1: from them and it keeps me going.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Yeah, bro.
- 27:48Speaker 4: I would have been, you know, for a long time,
- 27:51Speaker 4: I would argue that drugs kept me alive because I just,
- 27:57Speaker 4: I didn't know how to live in this world.
- 27:58Speaker 2: I didn't want to live in this world at all.
- 28:00Speaker 4: But at the same time, didn't quite, have the balls
- 28:04Speaker 4: to take myself out.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Oh yeah. So I'd say that drugs kept me alive
- 28:10Speaker 2: for a long time.
- 28:11Speaker 4: I mean, uh, you know, what made you.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Have so much pain? You think like, what was the,
- 28:15Speaker 1: what was the tough part for you? You think, well,
- 28:17Speaker 1: I think it was a mixture, dude. I think it was, um,
- 28:20Speaker 1: like I said, just, just being born. Like I, I
- 28:23Speaker 1: just feeling out of place, like always, like something wasn't right.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Um, Which is like a common theme with addicts. Yeah.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Like I'm a large in the world of fucking media. Yeah.
- 28:33Speaker 2: The world of 7XL.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm wandering around in my own shirt. I'm trying
- 28:38Speaker 1: to find a neck hole, bro.
- 28:39Speaker 4: So I think it's a, and they've, they've done a
- 28:41Speaker 4: lot of, I mean, they've done a lot of work
- 28:43Speaker 4: on this and they know it's like genetics. I won't
- 28:45Speaker 4: get into all that, but you know, part of that.
- 28:48Speaker 4: And I think also, you know, the way I grew
- 28:50Speaker 4: up and, When I say this, dude, I love everyone
- 28:54Speaker 4: in my family. I'll go above and beyond for any
- 28:58Speaker 4: one of them. But everybody was doing the best they
- 29:02Speaker 4: could with what they knew how to do.
- 29:05Speaker 2: But it was still tough. It was some tough shit
- 29:08Speaker 2: to grow up in. So that didn't help.
- 29:11Speaker 4: But I'll tell you the biggest thing, and I'll shut up.
- 29:13Speaker 4: That way I don't get too overwinded with this because
- 29:15Speaker 4: I have a tendency to do that. But I always
- 29:19Speaker 4: thought like this thing, Like, okay, the drugs are not
- 29:22Speaker 4: working anymore. They're not doing it for me. But this thing,
- 29:27Speaker 4: this thing's going to do it for me. Once we
- 29:29Speaker 4: get to that place, whatever that place is in my head,
- 29:32Speaker 4: whenever I get that thing, that's gonna do it for me.
- 29:36Speaker 4: And then I got really suicidal when we got there,
- 29:41Speaker 4: wherever there is.
- 29:43Speaker 2: And nothing changed.
- 29:44Speaker 4: And nothing changed. Now I feel worse, because if this
- 29:50Speaker 4: don't work, what's gonna do it? And that's when I
- 29:54Speaker 4: really started to spiral. And for me, and I'll end
- 29:58Speaker 4: it with this, The answer for me has been getting
- 30:02Speaker 4: involved in the 12-step programs. It's been more of a
- 30:06Speaker 4: spiritual answer rather than the material.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 30:11Speaker 1: I remember I was in my garage probably two years ago, man.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I was talking to my brother on the phone. I
- 30:16Speaker 1: was like, nothing will save me. It was like I
- 30:21Speaker 1: got people that are like me. I thought that's what
- 30:23Speaker 1: was my problem. same if enough people like me i'll
- 30:25Speaker 1: like me yes yeah yeah yeah and it was like
- 30:28Speaker 1: fuck man yeah one day it.
- 30:30Speaker 5: Makes me emotional i it's ass backwards because you have
- 30:33Speaker 5: to like yourself first and then yeah the other stuff but.
- 30:35Speaker 1: It's crazy to think man you know that that's kind
- 30:38Speaker 1: of the way that it that it could kind of
- 30:39Speaker 1: process and and um yeah but i see you in
- 30:43Speaker 1: the rooms man it gives me a lot of hope
- 30:44Speaker 1: every time i see you same with you bro dude
- 30:46Speaker 1: i was going you know i was in the way
- 30:48Speaker 1: you run your rooms bro and not to over talk you,
- 30:51Speaker 1: but it's like, you know, you have a lot of
- 30:52Speaker 1: respect of a lot of people in there and it's, um,
- 30:55Speaker 1: it's cool, man.
- 30:56Speaker 2: I've been blessed, bro.
- 30:57Speaker 4: And, and to, for you, bro, I was, I was, yeah,
- 31:02Speaker 4: they taste kind of shitty.
- 31:05Speaker 2: You want a fresh one? All right. Come on, brother.
- 31:08Speaker 4: Let me at least do you that service.

- 33:43Speaker 4: No, but Theo, I was three months sober, bro. Just
- 33:48Speaker 4: living on my own, just got to where I was
- 33:50Speaker 4: living on my own in California, where I went and
- 33:53Speaker 4: got sober. And I came across your video on YouTube.
- 33:56Speaker 2: That was my introduction to you. And it was why
- 33:59Speaker 2: I got sober. It was that video.
- 34:01Speaker 4: And then from there, you know, I watched that video
- 34:04Speaker 4: and you inspired me, bro.
- 34:06Speaker 2: And you gave me hope.
- 34:07Speaker 4: And then That's when I did a deep dive on
- 34:09Speaker 4: you and started watching all, like, your greatest hits and
- 34:12Speaker 4: highlights and shit, laughing my ass off.
- 34:14Speaker 2: That's funny, bro.
- 34:14Speaker 4: That's how I came to know you. But, yeah, before
- 34:17Speaker 4: we even knew each other, bro, you gave me a
- 34:19Speaker 4: little bump when I needed it, too, with that video.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Gang, man. Thanks, bro.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it's crazy kind of, I think, the connection that
- 34:25Speaker 1: people get going through, like, if they're using or if
- 34:29Speaker 1: they're recovering. It's like on both sides of that, it
- 34:32Speaker 1: seems like there's probably a lot of connection. You guys
- 34:34Speaker 1: could probably speak to that, huh?
- 34:36Speaker 2: You think? What you mean?
- 34:37Speaker 1: Like even on the using side, there's like a level
- 34:39Speaker 1: of connection that that keeps people.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 34:42Speaker 5: I mean, that'll keep you in, in the act of
- 34:45Speaker 5: addiction by, you know, you kind of almost, when I
- 34:48Speaker 5: was buying pills and shit and snorting Roxy's, I never
- 34:51Speaker 5: wanted to do them alone. So I would share with
- 34:53Speaker 5: everybody and I was making money so I could buy
- 34:55Speaker 5: a bunch and I would share with people that were
- 34:58Speaker 5: my friends that didn't make as much money and they
- 35:00Speaker 5: were glad, happy to get free pills. And I could
- 35:02Speaker 5: like be in my dark shit, but not alone. I
- 35:06Speaker 5: think a lot of addicts are chasing loneliness. They're chasing...
- 35:10Speaker 5: They're having trouble with self-acceptance. And I think finding your
- 35:13Speaker 5: little group of similar drugs that you want to do
- 35:16Speaker 5: together definitely makes you feel like you're safe and at home.
- 35:19Speaker 2: And then the exact opposite happens when you get off
- 35:20Speaker 2: of them too.
- 35:21Speaker 5: You find your people that want to stay away from
- 35:23Speaker 5: that shit and it kind of strengthens your little community
- 35:26Speaker 5: that you're in.
- 35:29Speaker 1: What were some of the... What have been some of
- 35:30Speaker 1: the highlights? Because you guys have a success that I think.
- 35:35Speaker 1: A lot of people don't really know it in a
- 35:37Speaker 1: lot of ways. A lot of people do, but y'all
- 35:39Speaker 1: aren't a mainstream thing. Is that offensive to say to you?
- 35:42Speaker 2: No, not at all.
- 35:43Speaker 5: If anything, I kind of take offense to the opposite,
- 35:46Speaker 5: that people do consider us mainstream, and I don't think
- 35:48Speaker 5: we are. We are in maybe how popular we are
- 35:51Speaker 5: or how many people listen to us, but you're not.
- 35:53Speaker 4: Going to see us.
- 35:53Speaker 2: People like to gatekeep.
- 35:54Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying?
- 35:55Speaker 2: Yeah, especially our fan base. They love to gatekeep.
- 35:58Speaker 4: What does that mean when people say gatekeep? They feel
- 35:59Speaker 4: like it's their thing.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Oh, bad.
- 36:01Speaker 2: You have to deserve to be our fan.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:03Speaker 2: It feels like that, though.
- 36:04Speaker 5: You know, every fan that we meet, whether it's like
- 36:06Speaker 5: we're just out and about and we run into somebody
- 36:08Speaker 5: that recognizes us, I ask him, and I bet you
- 36:11Speaker 5: he'll back me up, 10 times out of 10, they
- 36:13Speaker 5: tell me that they've listened to us since 2015.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Yeah. Which....
- 36:17Speaker 5: Or they'll say, I've been listening to you guys since
- 36:19Speaker 5: y'all started. I've been a fan since 2012.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Or since I was in seventh grade, and now they're 20-something. Yeah, exactly.
- 36:24Speaker 2: But the 2015 thing is funny.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Someone's still in seventh grade, too, bro.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Yeah. No disrespect, dude. Hey, bro.
- 36:33Speaker 1: I did fifth twice, homie.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:35Speaker 1: We've been in there, bro. We've all done a little sentence, man. Yeah,
- 36:41Speaker 1: it is.
- 36:42Speaker 2: It's their world.
- 36:43Speaker 1: That's why even, like, with talking with you guys, it feels,
- 36:45Speaker 1: since I wasn't there from the beginning, you don't feel
- 36:47Speaker 1: a little bit of, you're like, oh, this is their thing.
- 36:49Speaker 1: Even when I meet y'all's fans, it feels like that.
- 36:52Speaker 1: It feels like they're people that have feelings, and they've
- 36:55Speaker 1: been through something. That's what it kind of feels like.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Y'all's shows are real interesting, man, because it's such a, like,
- 37:03Speaker 1: it's such a kickoff, and then it's almost like running
- 37:05Speaker 1: downfield the whole show.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Yeah. You know, it just feels like a. That's a
- 37:10Speaker 2: good way to.
- 37:10Speaker 1: It's intense, man. And the crowd gets going. I mean,
- 37:13Speaker 1: this is a lot going on. You got the people
- 37:14Speaker 1: up by the front, just like almost like it's like
- 37:17Speaker 1: a big lung up there.
- 37:18Speaker 2: They're just kind of like. He taught me this early on, man.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Like we were doing a show.
- 37:24Speaker 4: We're about to do a show in New York and
- 37:25Speaker 4: only three people were showing up. And me and some
- 37:29Speaker 4: other rappers were like, fuck this.
- 37:31Speaker 2: We ain't doing this.
- 37:32Speaker 4: And he taught me a lesson early. He's like, bro,
- 37:35Speaker 4: it doesn't matter if one person shows up or thousands.
- 37:38Speaker 4: You give that person a show. And ever since then,
- 37:41Speaker 4: I've ran with that. Anytime I'm out there.
- 37:44Speaker 5: You did take to that super well.
- 37:46Speaker 4: If these people are paying to come watch me perform,
- 37:50Speaker 4: then the last thing I want to do is just
- 37:51Speaker 4: sit there.
- 37:52Speaker 2: You know, like I want- Right in your own self, yeah. Yeah,
- 37:55Speaker 2: and just like be still.
- 37:56Speaker 4: I don't know if that makes sense, but I want
- 37:58Speaker 4: to go out there and give them energy, like give
- 38:00Speaker 4: them everything I got.
- 38:01Speaker 5: And like I said, dude, worst case scenario, one person
- 38:03Speaker 5: showed up, it's a fucking practice. Like you keep the,
- 38:07Speaker 5: you don't get rusty. You keep it going because, you know,
- 38:10Speaker 5: we'll tour once a year, really, two, three months at
- 38:13Speaker 5: the end of the year. And the first few shows
- 38:15Speaker 5: we do, it's kind of like forget what to say.
- 38:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Or we'll forget certain lyrics. We're like, fuck, dude, we've
- 38:21Speaker 1: done this for 10 years. How are we forgetting this shit?
- 38:23Speaker 1: You have to get back in the groove. Yeah, you
- 38:24Speaker 1: got to get back in the groove, man. So you guys,
- 38:27Speaker 1: now there's a new album coming out. What is it
- 38:30Speaker 1: like to evolve? Is it scary to evolve? I think
- 38:34Speaker 1: about it even in comedy and stuff. I'm like, what
- 38:36Speaker 1: the heck? Some of your people that listen to you, they...
- 38:43Speaker 1: They listen to you at a certain age, but they're
- 38:44Speaker 1: getting older too. Some of them are all different ages.
- 38:47Speaker 1: So how do you try and apply to everybody?
- 38:50Speaker 2: I'm really glad you asked this. That's a great question.
- 38:53Speaker 1: And how do you try to also apply to yourself
- 38:55Speaker 1: at the same time?
- 38:57Speaker 2: So we might have two different.
- 38:58Speaker 5: I think it'll be, well, at first, I think at
- 39:02Speaker 5: first we were scared to kind of change the sound
- 39:04Speaker 5: up because the formula was working and we were worried
- 39:07Speaker 5: about like introducing new stuff because what if they don't
- 39:09Speaker 5: like it and this and that. And the more successful
- 39:11Speaker 5: you get is like the scarier it gets because you
- 39:13Speaker 5: think one wrong fucking move and it all crumbles, which
- 39:16Speaker 5: isn't true. But we started experimenting, doing some like singing
- 39:19Speaker 5: stuff or whatever, and people seemed to fuck with it.
- 39:23Speaker 5: And then we got to a point to where we
- 39:24Speaker 5: didn't really care if they didn't like it or not.
- 39:27Speaker 5: Scott and I have been making this music for so
- 39:29Speaker 5: long now that if we wanted to try something experimental
- 39:31Speaker 5: or new I think we deserve to at this point
- 39:35Speaker 5: so it can be a scary thing but I think
- 39:37Speaker 5: you know don't fear it and just just do it
- 39:39Speaker 5: and see what happens.
- 39:40Speaker 4: Yeah I think I agree 100% on everything you said
- 39:45Speaker 4: from on a more I don't know if you went
- 39:46Speaker 4: through this too but for me on a more personal level,
- 39:49Speaker 4: when I got sober, it was like I was so scared,
- 39:55Speaker 4: because I thought my drug use fueled all my creativity.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Yeah, that was definitely a thought, for sure.
- 39:59Speaker 4: Yeah, and so for me, once I finally did start
- 40:04Speaker 4: getting back into it, it was literally like learning how
- 40:07Speaker 4: to walk all over again.
- 40:09Speaker 2: It is. Really.
- 40:10Speaker 4: And the sound did kind of change as a result
- 40:13Speaker 4: of that, beat-wise, production-wise. More upbeat, more like less... scary
- 40:20Speaker 4: and sad sounding.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Yes.
- 40:21Speaker 4: So I think the evolution of our music has matched exactly.
- 40:27Speaker 2: The evolution of us. Of us, yeah. That's a great point.
- 40:31Speaker 2: That's how I look at it. What was it like.
- 40:34Speaker 1: If you're on pills and you're deep out on pills,
- 40:36Speaker 1: I never really got that out on them. If you're like...
- 40:40Speaker 1: Huff and Trank or whatever. I don't even know what
- 40:42Speaker 1: some of the.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Names are, you know?
- 40:44Speaker 1: Yeah. Fucking Swamp Pebbles or.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Whatever you're buying now. You can call it anything now.
- 40:49Speaker 2: Looking for a neck hole.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Oh, bro, they'll fucking have a tilapia-flavored perk out here, bro.
- 40:54Speaker 1: In New Orleans, they don't give a shit, bro. You'll
- 40:57Speaker 1: have a fucking pecan-crusted Zandbar.
- 40:59Speaker 2: Out here, bro. You're like, what the fuck? Everybody wants
- 41:02Speaker 2: to be a chef in this motherfucker, bro. That's crazy, dude. Yeah,
- 41:06Speaker 2: praline Adderalls, yeah.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Oh, you'll have a bag of char-grilled somas over here.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Like, damn, this place is crazy, dude. That's pretty funny, bro.
- 41:14Speaker 1: But what was it like making music when you're under
- 41:17Speaker 1: that influence? Is it even possible to make music when
- 41:20Speaker 1: you're like that kind of pill high?
- 41:23Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 41:24Speaker 1: So I'm just curious, like, or is it just possible
- 41:26Speaker 1: to just, like, listen back? Or is it, do you
- 41:30Speaker 1: feel any creative, was there any creativity from the actual
- 41:33Speaker 1: high of that?
- 41:34Speaker 4: I don't know if we worked differently, because I know
- 41:36Speaker 4: sometimes you would wait until after we were done.
- 41:40Speaker 2: To smoke. But this was early on, to smoke. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:42Speaker 4: Weed, it's, I still smoke weed. I couldn't go without it.
- 41:48Speaker 4: Ruby couldn't either, you know what I'm saying? So we
- 41:50Speaker 4: were constantly on it all day. So it's kind of
- 41:52Speaker 4: like just feeling normal. Yeah, I would agree with that.
- 41:56Speaker 2: I was told you doze off and shit.
- 41:58Speaker 4: I mean, that's like, look.
- 41:59Speaker 1: How do you find your time to wake? You're both
- 42:01Speaker 1: awake at the same time to make a try.
- 42:03Speaker 5: When you take a Percocet first thing in the morning
- 42:05Speaker 5: or whatever your oxy, whatever it is, it's going to
- 42:08Speaker 5: give you a boost. Like, I'll come out of that
- 42:11Speaker 5: bathroom snorting something and I'm like, what's up, motherfuckers? Like,
- 42:14Speaker 5: I'm like on one. And then as you keep dosing,
- 42:18Speaker 5: at the end of the day, it's kind of like
- 42:20Speaker 5: when you've, you know, you've done all day it and...
- 42:23Speaker 5: that's when you start to kind of nod off. It's
- 42:25Speaker 5: like your body's like, okay, I'm tapping out. For me,
- 42:27Speaker 5: I was mixing so much stuff, so much speed.
- 42:29Speaker 2: This kid was all over the fucking place. But you
- 42:31Speaker 2: can hear it in the music now.
- 42:32Speaker 4: Sometimes we go back for laughs and we'll listen to
- 42:36Speaker 4: some of the shit I made when I was in psychosis.
- 42:38Speaker 2: What would you say is the most fucked up you
- 42:40Speaker 2: ever were for an album? I want to die in
- 42:43Speaker 2: New Orleans. I think mine is... I hate that album.
- 42:49Speaker 2: Stop Staring is mine.
- 42:50Speaker 4: Really?
- 42:51Speaker 2: I hate that album.
- 42:53Speaker 4: You did phenomenal on it, but I was so far gone, dude.
- 42:57Speaker 4: I was literally in psychosis from doing so much speed
- 43:01Speaker 4: and downers, bro. I thought Southwest Airlines was trying to
- 43:05Speaker 4: kill me.
- 43:06Speaker 2: You told me that story once, bro. Yeah, I thought
- 43:08Speaker 2: Kyle took a life insurance policy out on me for
- 43:10Speaker 2: 70 grand.
- 43:11Speaker 4: This motherfucker.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Bro, that's the most New Orleans shit ever.
- 43:14Speaker 1: Somebody takes a life insurance policy out for $ 700, bro.
- 43:17Speaker 2: Just for what? To make it their truck payment. That's
- 43:20Speaker 2: the fucking most New Orleans shit, bro. I remember that.
- 43:23Speaker 2: We were in New Zealand when he told me that.
- 43:24Speaker 2: He thought that they were putting a hit out on us.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:27Speaker 2: He thought like, what do you say when he sits
- 43:29Speaker 2: you down? I put them through hell.
- 43:31Speaker 5: At one point I was starting to get really impatient
- 43:33Speaker 5: with it because like, I was tired of explaining, I
- 43:37Speaker 5: was tired of explaining that like this insane theory wasn't
- 43:41Speaker 5: actually happening. I would one time, I thought he had
- 43:43Speaker 5: my phone. This was one time where he quit suicide
- 43:46Speaker 5: boys on Twitter.
- 43:46Speaker 2: I don't know if you remember that. Oh, I remember.
- 43:48Speaker 5: And he, I remember where I was at the time.
- 43:50Speaker 5: He had just bought a condo in Bradenton, Florida, outside
- 43:52Speaker 5: of Sarasota. And I can't get in touch with them.
- 43:55Speaker 5: Kyle can't get in touch with them. And, We decide
- 43:59Speaker 5: let's go out there. Let's just press him. Let's be
- 44:00Speaker 5: in person. So long story short, we fly down there,
- 44:03Speaker 5: rent a car, drive to his apartment. And he doesn't
- 44:06Speaker 5: expect us. He doesn't know we're coming. We go upstairs
- 44:09Speaker 5: and I knock on the door and he's like, one second.
- 44:12Speaker 5: I think to myself like, man, I just flew out here.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Fuck that. I'm not waiting a second. I was like, bro,
- 44:16Speaker 2: I'm here. What's up?
- 44:17Speaker 5: Like, what's the problem? And he was like, give me
- 44:19Speaker 5: a second. He had to go to the bathroom, do
- 44:21Speaker 5: his little thing, catch my drift. And then we came outside.
- 44:24Speaker 2: He was ready to talk.
- 44:25Speaker 5: And this long story to say, I was trying to see,
- 44:29Speaker 5: I was like, is he fucking with me? Is he
- 44:31Speaker 5: lying to me? Does he think I'm stupid? Or does
- 44:34Speaker 5: he actually believe this shit? And is he fucking crazy?
- 44:38Speaker 5: So I had to sit him down, and I was like, bro,
- 44:39Speaker 5: this Southwest thing, do you think that the people on
- 44:43Speaker 5: the board of Southwest.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Sit in a boardroom. Southwest Airlines.
- 44:48Speaker 4: Southwest Airlines.
- 44:49Speaker 5: And they discuss how we're going to assassinate Scrim from
- 44:53Speaker 5: Suicide Boys. And he looked at me, dead in the eyes,
- 44:56Speaker 5: the most serious look on his face, and he goes, yes.
- 44:59Speaker 5: And I lost my mind, bro. I took my phone
- 45:01Speaker 5: and I threw it on the, I was trying to
- 45:03Speaker 5: hit the grass, but I hit the sidewalk.
- 45:06Speaker 2: The fucker sparked. And that pissed you off even more.
- 45:10Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah. I thought they were trying to kill me
- 45:12Speaker 4: because my brother had bootlegged one of our tracks. And
- 45:16Speaker 4: cause he was bad off on dope and sold it
- 45:18Speaker 4: to this person for like 800 bucks, but actually didn't
- 45:22Speaker 4: give him the song and just scammed them. And I
- 45:24Speaker 4: thought the person he scammed was the son of somebody
- 45:28Speaker 4: on the board of Southwest and they were just going
- 45:30Speaker 4: to take me out.
- 45:31Speaker 5: To speak on the other side of things. I'm thinking,
- 45:35Speaker 5: what is coming out of his mouth? Is it real
- 45:37Speaker 5: or not? Come to find out, the story of his
- 45:39Speaker 5: brother stealing a song and selling it is true. And
- 45:42Speaker 5: I'm sitting there, and I feel bad because I've been
- 45:44Speaker 5: calling him a liar in my head and all this shit.
- 45:46Speaker 5: And then I find out it's true. So then I'm like,
- 45:49Speaker 5: all right, so is all of this true? I still
- 45:51Speaker 5: refuse to believe that the board of Southwest is meeting
- 45:54Speaker 5: to discuss his assassination.
- 45:55Speaker 4: But I had my brother and my family believe that
- 45:59Speaker 4: I had fucking time.
- 46:00Speaker 2: Bro, I was very convincing.
- 46:02Speaker 4: I had fans tweeting at Southwest Airlines on Twitter.
- 46:07Speaker 2: I did. Yeah. That's crazy.
- 46:10Speaker 4: But that was toward the end. That was like when
- 46:12Speaker 4: I was really spiraling.
- 46:15Speaker 2: Fuck, dude.
- 46:17Speaker 1: It's interesting, though, that you guys were at least had
- 46:19Speaker 1: a close enough connection, because a lot of bands fall
- 46:21Speaker 1: apart from that kind of stuff. A lot of groups,
- 46:24Speaker 1: a lot of teams fall apart. Everything falls apart.
- 46:26Speaker 4: We're family.
- 46:26Speaker 2: I'm glad you brought that. I don't know you know that,
- 46:28Speaker 2: but we're family. Right, but for you to.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Go there and want to actually just to think, let
- 46:31Speaker 1: me see what's really going on with him.
- 46:33Speaker 4: Dude, we've never even hit each other. Like, we've gotten
- 46:35Speaker 4: in each other's faces, ready to fucking beat the shit
- 46:37Speaker 4: out of each other, and we've both been able, like,
- 46:40Speaker 4: you're my cousin, and I don't want to do that.
- 46:41Speaker 2: I don't want to hit you. I fucking hate you
- 46:43Speaker 2: right now, but I'm not going to touch you.
- 46:44Speaker 4: Like, and.
- 46:45Speaker 2: It's gone both ways.
- 46:46Speaker 5: And I say that the family thing, which obviously doesn't
- 46:49Speaker 5: apply to everybody, but we've been able to look at
- 46:51Speaker 5: the fact that we're cousins and the fact that we
- 46:53Speaker 5: provide for our families, which is a shared family, as
- 46:56Speaker 5: a reason to never give up on each other. If
- 46:59Speaker 5: this was just one of my friends, I don't think
- 47:01Speaker 5: it would have been the same.
- 47:02Speaker 2: No. No way.
- 47:03Speaker 4: That's good that you brought that up because a lot
- 47:07Speaker 4: of groups just don't make it in general. And doing
- 47:10Speaker 4: business with family is usually not a smart way to go.
- 47:14Speaker 4: But for us, I mean- It's the only time it
- 47:15Speaker 4: worked out. Yeah, I think it's just a unique situation. Bro,
- 47:18Speaker 4: we both got the same granny to answer to, and
- 47:21Speaker 4: she ain't nothing nice.
- 47:22Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? She done FaceTimed me before.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Scary woman.
- 47:26Speaker 4: She done FaceTimed me before being like, you making music
- 47:30Speaker 4: without your cousin?
- 47:31Speaker 2: Oh, that's too much. Pressing me.
- 47:33Speaker 4: And I'd have to call her and be like, granny,
- 47:35Speaker 4: I got it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. She's going to think
- 47:36Speaker 4: that I'm fucking venting to you.
- 47:38Speaker 1: Does she stay up late or no?
- 47:40Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 47:41Speaker 4: Granny?
- 47:41Speaker 2: She's almost 80 now.
- 47:42Speaker 4: She was a bus driver for the parish, Jefferson Parish,
- 47:47Speaker 4: pretty much her whole life.
- 47:48Speaker 2: Yeah, bro. Drove me to school from kindergarten to high school. Dang, brother.
- 47:53Speaker 2: Real working woman, bro. And Wagaman. Shoot, may handle like grown...
- 47:58Speaker 2: Like seniors in high school.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Oh, bro, yeah.
- 48:00Speaker 2: I watched her. I'm telling you, you don't want to
- 48:01Speaker 2: fuck with that lady. She's from Wagman, bro. Oh, come on.
- 48:04Speaker 2: Don't throw down.
- 48:05Speaker 1: The first seat, they'll have a crock pot going.
- 48:07Speaker 4: In that bitch. Yeah, bro.
- 48:10Speaker 2: They got lunch going in there. I made you a
- 48:12Speaker 2: pot of gumbo.
- 48:14Speaker 1: That's back when the bus, and I'm going to just
- 48:15Speaker 1: pick up a strange on that.
- 48:17Speaker 4: Yeah, bro.
- 48:18Speaker 1: You'd have two raccoons in the fourth row, bro.
- 48:21Speaker 2: Fucking Nutria.
- 48:22Speaker 1: Anything in that bitch, bro. Dude, the bus people used
- 48:26Speaker 1: to cut. It used to be like the green seat cover.
- 48:30Speaker 1: or sometimes they were green and sometimes they were black,
- 48:32Speaker 1: people would cut a little slice in there and people
- 48:34Speaker 1: would put dope all, the bus, they didn't even realize
- 48:36Speaker 1: the bus the whole time was just driving dope around
- 48:39Speaker 1: the fucking city. Damn.
- 48:40Speaker 2: I never thought of that.
- 48:41Speaker 4: Yeah, for real.
- 48:42Speaker 1: People would keep everything. They would slice it and the
- 48:45Speaker 1: inside of the seat was hollow. People would keep all kind.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Of shit in there. I was too busy. Crafty motherfuckers, bro.
- 48:49Speaker 4: I was too busy fingering girls in the back of
- 48:50Speaker 4: the bus.
- 48:51Speaker 2: Hey, bro. Oh, you was in the 11th row.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Yeah, bro.
- 48:55Speaker 1: That was a red light district of the bus.
- 48:57Speaker 2: Randy, put it on Q93.
- 48:58Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:59Speaker 4: Q93.
- 49:00Speaker 2: Wild Wayne. Yeah, dude. Remember Wild Wayne, bro?
- 49:04Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. What were some of the things they would say
- 49:06Speaker 1: on there?
- 49:07Speaker 4: Q93, boys.
- 49:10Speaker 5: I remember when the Saints were going to the Super Bowl,
- 49:13Speaker 5: Q93 hosted like some show at the Holland Wolf and
- 49:16Speaker 5: they had like every, that year, because the Saints were
- 49:19Speaker 5: doing so well, everybody came out with a Saints song.
- 49:21Speaker 2: You remember that shit? You remember that shit?
- 49:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:23Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 49:23Speaker 2: Wild Wayne hosted this show. It was like all these
- 49:26Speaker 2: Saints rappers out there. Yeah, yeah.
- 49:28Speaker 1: I'm trying to think. Look up Wild Wayne, Q93. See
- 49:30Speaker 1: if we can play even their intro.
- 49:34Speaker 4: I remember DJ Row would come on either four or
- 49:37Speaker 4: five o'clock every day.
- 49:39Speaker 2: DJ Ro in the mix.
- 49:42Speaker 4: Yeah. I pitched the idea to Wyner Court that they
- 49:51Speaker 4: need to advertise on Q93.
- 49:53Speaker 2: And they did it. They did it? They did it.
- 49:54Speaker 2: Wild Wayne, all them came in. Nuh-uh.
- 49:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:57Speaker 2: Yeah, we was bumping, bro. That's touching. This is 2002, bro.
- 50:02Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 50:03Speaker 2: We were selling the shit out some furniture after that.
- 50:06Speaker 1: Did y'all... Was there some moments where you guys got
- 50:10Speaker 1: to connect with some local artists when y'all started coming
- 50:12Speaker 1: up or how did that kind of go?
- 50:14Speaker 2: Man, I'm going to say it. This city fucking hates us, bro.
- 50:17Speaker 2: They do. We don't get no love.
- 50:18Speaker 5: We don't get any love from the city, not from
- 50:20Speaker 5: people in the city, artists, nothing.
- 50:23Speaker 1: It's interesting.
- 50:24Speaker 5: We're not even doing a show this year in New
- 50:25Speaker 5: Orleans because we don't feel the love and we're kind
- 50:27Speaker 5: of a little annoyed.
- 50:28Speaker 4: Yeah, we got out of every arena we went to
- 50:31Speaker 4: last year, New Orleans absolutely treated us the worst.
- 50:34Speaker 2: Like garbage, dude. Like they were doing us a favor. Yeah,
- 50:37Speaker 2: I was actually, like, mind-blown by it.
- 50:40Speaker 1: And what is it you think? Yeah, what do you
- 50:42Speaker 1: think some of that is? You guys are something so different.
- 50:47Speaker 4: Right, right.
- 50:48Speaker 1: I don't know if that has something to do with it.
- 50:49Speaker 5: I think people get turned off by the name Suicide Boys,
- 50:53Speaker 5: and I know that, like, Mickey Loomis doesn't fuck with
- 50:56Speaker 5: us because of that. But what a lot of people
- 50:58Speaker 5: don't understand is it's not, you know, it might have
- 51:02Speaker 5: started off as, like, a way to say stupid shit,
- 51:05Speaker 5: but it's definitely become a thing that, people relate to,
- 51:08Speaker 5: and it's become an important part of some kids' lives.
- 51:11Speaker 5: And Scott and I want people to do well. We're
- 51:13Speaker 5: not trying to tear people down. So it's funny how
- 51:17Speaker 5: people get the wrong idea. I'm glad you said that,
- 51:18Speaker 5: because we never intended. We never had this grand idea
- 51:23Speaker 5: or intention for it to turn into this community and
- 51:26Speaker 5: turn into what it's... Or have kids being like, yo,
- 51:29Speaker 5: you saved my life, or like the emails that Kyle
- 51:32Speaker 5: and them get.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Through fan letters, all sorts of shit.
- 51:36Speaker 4: So I think if people were to dig past the surface,
- 51:41Speaker 4: they would see, but I think that also goes into like,
- 51:44Speaker 4: this is bigger than us, dude.
- 51:46Speaker 1: It's real interesting, man. I get more requests for you
- 51:48Speaker 1: guys than anybody ever. Really?
- 51:51Speaker 2: Oh, dude. I feel like kind of the same, bro.
- 51:54Speaker 2: Everybody's been like, yo, y'all got to.
- 51:56Speaker 1: Go on Theo. When the money sign to be when
- 51:58Speaker 1: they send it. At first, I thought it was people

- 52:02Speaker 2: I didn't know... Sending money to OB.
- 52:05Speaker 1: Yeah, the first thousand I got, I'm like, who the
- 52:07Speaker 1: fuck is this guy? Dude, they must really, they running
- 52:11Speaker 1: a GoFundMe group. Yeah, be hurting. But then I was like, oh, damn,

- 54:43Speaker 1: the Poirier fight?
- 54:44Speaker 2: You guys watch UFC?
- 54:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I did this weekend. Did you catch it?
- 54:48Speaker 2: I didn't see it. I caught it. I was struggling
- 54:50Speaker 2: to stay up, bro. I go to bed. I'm like
- 54:51Speaker 2: a grandpa now ever since I got sober. I mean,
- 54:54Speaker 2: it was late as hell. We were there.
- 54:55Speaker 1: We didn't go on stage or whatever until 1230.
- 54:57Speaker 2: I watched it, man. Yeah, I was rooting for him, bro.
- 55:01Speaker 2: Lafayette boy? Yeah. I think he did great, bro. Me too.
- 55:04Speaker 2: He did great. I don't even know. Islam one? Yeah,
- 55:08Speaker 2: Islam won. What was in it? By a chokehold?
- 55:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but it was so close. It was in the
- 55:12Speaker 1: fourth round. But if this was a crawfish eating competition,
- 55:15Speaker 1: you know who would have won.
- 55:16Speaker 2: Yeah, all day.
- 55:17Speaker 1: Look, he's almost shaped like a crawfish right there.
- 55:19Speaker 2: He is.
- 55:21Speaker 1: Dustin didn't win, but I really didn't feel like he lost.
- 55:24Speaker 1: I mean, this dude, everybody thought this dude was going
- 55:26Speaker 1: to roll.
- 55:27Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't want to say that. Safe to say, Nick, huh?
- 55:30Speaker 2: People thought that Islam.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Was going to beat him because he beats everybody.
- 55:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:34Speaker 1: And Dustin took that dude.
- 55:35Speaker 2: So he put up a good fight. He's a dog, bro. Yeah.
- 55:37Speaker 2: Dustin is a dog, bro. You got to be, bro.
- 55:40Speaker 2: You got to be.
- 55:41Speaker 1: And you could tell, man, it's just interesting the different
- 55:45Speaker 1: ways a lot of people used to express themselves. You know,
- 55:47Speaker 1: like if it's music or comedy or art.
- 55:51Speaker 2: Well, I've gotten in. We've both gotten into it.
- 55:53Speaker 4: Training boxing yeah yeah we've been doing that for the
- 55:57Speaker 4: past couple years and bro that in itself is is
- 55:59Speaker 4: an art and a science and something to be respected
- 56:02Speaker 4: so now when i watch this i have a whole
- 56:04Speaker 4: different i grew up watching it with my papa anyway
- 56:07Speaker 4: he was a boxer but like i watched these guys
- 56:11Speaker 4: bro and and the amount of respect i have for
- 56:13Speaker 4: them just in the little training that.
- 56:15Speaker 2: We do you know what i'm saying i'm like it.
- 56:17Speaker 5: Seems like these guys are built different anything you watch
- 56:19Speaker 5: skateboarding boxing whatever it is it seems easy then once
- 56:22Speaker 5: you actually get in it, you realize, oh, this is
- 56:24Speaker 5: not easy.
- 56:25Speaker 2: You throw four.
- 56:26Speaker 5: Punches and you're winded, and you're like, how the fuck
- 56:27Speaker 5: these dudes do this for nine rounds?
- 56:30Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. This is him at the end, I think.
- 56:32Speaker 2: We can play this.
- 56:34Speaker 4: And I'm not 100%, but if this is my last fight,
- 56:38Speaker 4: I wanted to dedicate this journey to the people who
- 56:40Speaker 4: may be the man I am, and that's the women
- 56:42Speaker 4: in my life.
- 56:43Speaker 2: To my grandmother, I.
- 56:44Speaker 4: Miss you every day.
- 56:46Speaker 2: And I know I'm still protected.
- 56:49Speaker 4: By your prayers. Oh, yeah.
- 56:51Speaker 2: Wow. That is so funny, dude.
- 56:52Speaker 4: What a beautiful moment, man. Really cool. You say that's
- 57:16Speaker 4: his last fight?
- 57:17Speaker 2: Hold on. I'm not sure. He's a fighter, man.
- 57:19Speaker 1: I think the thing about him, he just like, even
- 57:22Speaker 1: if you don't get the W, it's like he just,
- 57:25Speaker 1: there's something about him, he shows up to fight. Yeah.
- 57:27Speaker 1: And that's what I think everybody can relate to. It's like,
- 57:30Speaker 1: all right, I can go fight, you know, I can
- 57:31Speaker 1: fight through another day in my life, whether it's just
- 57:33Speaker 1: feeling okay or.
- 57:35Speaker 2: Well, when he was talking in the post-conference.
- 57:39Speaker 4: Interviews, he was, you know, bringing up the uncertainty of
- 57:43Speaker 4: his future and, Any time lately people bring that up,
- 57:47Speaker 4: it makes me think about us. What we would do. Yeah,
- 57:51Speaker 4: and what's next.
- 57:52Speaker 5: I think we just give up music, train for 10 years,
- 57:55Speaker 5: and then we can put on our own headlining fight.
- 57:58Speaker 2: I'm buying it.
- 57:59Speaker 5: Me versus you. I don't want to do that. We
- 58:01Speaker 5: can pull a Sopranos, and right as the fight's about
- 58:04Speaker 5: to start, it fades to black. Like their money.
- 58:06Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 58:07Speaker 2: Now, that's brilliant. That's brilliant.
- 58:09Speaker 4: I'm not going to hit you, bro.
- 58:10Speaker 2: I just told him I'm not going to fucking hit you.
- 58:11Speaker 2: That's brilliant.
- 58:12Speaker 1: Y'all can fight somebody. Maybe the Yin Yang Twins.
- 58:14Speaker 2: How old are they?
- 58:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:16Speaker 5: Bro, they have one of the best Cribs episodes ever,
- 58:19Speaker 5: the Yin Yang Twins. They're just like shouting random noises
- 58:22Speaker 5: like the whole time.
- 58:23Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. That show is so entertaining.
- 58:25Speaker 1: Yeah, they got, well, the Saints took their song, wasn't it?
- 58:27Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. Yeah, I always thought that was kind of weird.
- 58:30Speaker 2: You know, some 80-year-old boys. K. Gates took the beat
- 58:34Speaker 2: and made it into the... Oh, really?
- 58:36Speaker 5: Oh, okay. Yeah, but I think there was some copyright issue.
- 58:42Speaker 2: That's them? Yeah.
- 58:45Speaker 1: That's Yin Yang?
- 58:45Speaker 4: So K.
- 58:46Speaker 2: Gates took it and made a version.
- 58:47Speaker 4: He made the hook.
- 58:48Speaker 2: It's like, who dat?
- 58:49Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 58:49Speaker 2: At the game, you'll hear the Yin Yang Twins version. Yeah.
- 58:52Speaker 2: But New Orleans is interesting, man. A lot of unique.
- 58:54Speaker 1: Bro, I was walking down, this is how we even
- 58:55Speaker 1: got this art. I'm walking down the street when I, like,
- 58:58Speaker 1: going next door to get a coffee. I was thinking, man,
- 59:00Speaker 1: it would be cool if we had some neat art.
- 59:02Speaker 1: uh there's a dude sitting outside blazing with his homie
- 59:06Speaker 1: yeah um.
- 59:07Speaker 4: Oh shit it's louis armstrong i think or somebody it's
- 59:10Speaker 4: a jazz player.
- 59:11Speaker 1: This dude tyrell shaw and uh this is his art
- 59:14Speaker 1: man and he's like i was like dude i'm about
- 59:16Speaker 1: to uh chat with the suicide boys you want to
- 59:18Speaker 1: put a piece in that's cool he's like yeah man.
- 59:21Speaker 2: That's fire that you put them on like that i
- 59:23Speaker 2: respect that.
- 59:24Speaker 1: Supporting local art baby yeah It's kind of like what,
- 59:27Speaker 1: that's the thing about New Orleans. I mean, you could
- 59:29Speaker 1: walk half a block.
- 59:31Speaker 2: You'll see talent in the streets.
- 59:32Speaker 1: You'll see talent. You'll either get, yeah. You'll either disappear
- 59:35Speaker 1: in a pothole. Shit, we got no love in the beginning.
- 59:37Speaker 1: You will disappear in a pothole.
- 59:38Speaker 4: We was handing out, we was handing out mixtapes and
- 59:40Speaker 4: them bitches was going in the trash.
- 59:42Speaker 2: Actually, I'm going to tell the LSU story.
- 59:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 59:45Speaker 5: Scott, when we first started like recording and making music,
- 59:48Speaker 5: really first attempting to do this shit, we made a
- 59:51Speaker 5: CD for him, a mixtape for him. We got it printed.
- 59:54Speaker 5: We made 500 of them. I made the cover for him.
- 59:56Speaker 2: La, la, la.
- 59:57Speaker 5: We go, what are we going to do with this?
- 59:58Speaker 5: Let's go to shows and colleges. Let's go hand this
- 1:00:01Speaker 5: shit out.
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: Old school, right?
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: Yeah, put these shades on for this one. And this
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: was also in 2013.
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: So we're going to old school. We go to LSU campus.
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: We're staying with my brother because he's going to school there.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: At the time.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: So y'all didn't go hand shit out?
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: And we go in that big part of the campus
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: where all the traffic, all the people are walking by.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: It's in between classes.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, the quads.
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: Me and Scott hanging out CDs, like, oh, you fucking rap,
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: check this out, whatever. Bro, first of all, all them
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: CDs ended up in the trash. Like every fucking one.
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: We turned around three feet away from us as the
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: CD on the ground. But the funniest thing that happened
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: that day was, I love this part. It was some girl,
- 1:00:39Speaker 5: this like nervous freshman heading to class, bunch of books
- 1:00:41Speaker 5: in her bag. You could tell she's like kind of
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: on edge. She's riding her bike and she comes in
- 1:00:47Speaker 5: front of me and Scott and rolls over his shoe.
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: And Scott, well, we both do, but Scott loves white shoes.
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: You know, the thing with white shoes is don't fucking
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: scuff them.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: Keep them clean. And don't ride a bike over them.
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: Don't ride a bike over them. It's not asking much.
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: He flipped out. And I'm just laughing the whole time
- 1:01:04Speaker 5: because I just thought it was funny. But he was like,
- 1:01:06Speaker 5: what the fuck? And this girl looks so scared, bro.
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: This motherfucker still looked like this.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: Back then.
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: And she took off, bro, to not look back, and
- 1:01:14Speaker 5: I'm just dying laughing.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: The white shoes, man.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: Rob Markman, Jr.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: He's like, I'll floor your whole fucking house, lady.
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: Rob Markman, Jr.: Bro, I lost count of how many
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: fights I got in growing up over stepping on people's shoes, bro.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: Rob Markman, Jr.
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: That's how we met.
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: That's how me and Kyle met.
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: At Fallon Blue, because this dude was cutting the lawn.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: I stepped in his way.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: It was exam week. I was starving. It was chicken
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: tender and macaroni.
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: I'm about to say, it's chicken tender day.
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: Chicken tender day.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: We just had a lunch lady on. That's the biggest day.
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: He's cutting the line with his homies. I'm like, nah,
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: this ain't happening today, bro.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: I step in the way. I step on his shoes.
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: And then, you know, next thing I know, I'm fighting him,
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: both of his sisters who were built like linebackers, and
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: a couple other guys.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: A lot of shouldery women in that area.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: A lot of shouldery women.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: That's how me and Kyle, that's how we got, that's
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: how we met. He was like, yo, come roll with
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: us from here on out. Because when I... You went
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: to Fountain Blue. So check this out. When I first
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: moved up there- I love this.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: I was- Because that's in St. Timony Parish.
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: So look, I grew up on the West Bank.
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: Henry Ford, I'm used to- Go ahead, go ahead.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: I just want to set you up. Yes.
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: You know this, but for our audience- You know, Mandeville
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: is the area of like the families that wear all
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: white and take family portraits at the beach.
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Mandeville, yeah, it's fancy over there. That's
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: the vibe. Yeah, yeah. So, my bad. Continue. No, thank
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: you for that.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: And West Bank is definitely different, bro. There's a lot
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: of places out there. We're doing what we got to
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: do to get by. Yeah, you'll have somebody get buried
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: in an oyster half shell or something over there. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: They got some couple cuties over there in tall Timbers,
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: I know that. But otherwise, you know, it gets a
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: little bit, you never know, bro. You'll have a dude
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: have his eyes taken out of a couple dice put in.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: 100%. Yeah, all day. So Scott's coming from that area.
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: I'm moving, yeah.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: Scott's moving in.
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: Our neighborhood's getting really bad. We just had my youngest brother.
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: My dad's like, all right, I'm getting there. I'm getting
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: the family up out of here. Moved to Lacombe right
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: by Mandeville. So I go to Fountain Blue, right? I
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: show up there. I got cornrows in. I got a
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: big tall tee. Remember tall tees? I had a big
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: tall tee on.
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: I had some jabos. It was about as baggy as
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: these pants. Oh, Lord.
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: And my bus driver was black. And even him, when
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: I walked in the bus, he said, what the fuck
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: are you doing? It's an alien just landed, bro. That's
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: the first thing this man tells me on my first
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: day of school to ever get on the bus, five
- 1:03:33Speaker 4: in the morning.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: He said, what the fuck are you doing?
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: That's a long shirt you was in too. Scott got
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: on the shirt guy. It took a few more seconds.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: The shirt.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: It did.
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: Somebody behind him.
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: So I sit down and I'm like, I get to
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: the school.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: It's 2000 white kids, bro. Oh yeah.
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: So you want to talk about culture shock? I was like,
- 1:03:55Speaker 4: I thought I landed on another planet.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Um, So did they.
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: Good point.
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: Bro, no one talked to.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: Me for a year.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: Oh, I can see that, bro.
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: I was by myself for a year.
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: And it took me getting into a fight for Kyle
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: and them to be like, all right, you good.
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: Come on. Damn. That is a way to prove yourself.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: That's a short version of the story.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: There's something about walking around a school when nobody talks
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: to you that you create this own universe in your head.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. My high school?
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: No, it's like a first-person game. It's like, you know,
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: you're living in a first-person shooter world.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: It's true.
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: I was going to say, he had that experience, my
- 1:04:35Speaker 5: experience in high school.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: I went to Jesuit.
- 1:04:37Speaker 5: It was all boys, Catholic, prep school, whatever.
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: And I definitely did not fit in in that school.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: To this day, if I say that.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: I didn't know you went to Jesuit.
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: See, when I say I went to Jesuit, people are like, what?
- 1:04:47Speaker 5: You went to Jesuit? And I got involved with drugs early.
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: I was like 14. Earlier than me.
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: I was actually going to say that story too.
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: I was like 14 and I started, I was like,
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: I'm going to try it all because I just tried
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: weed and it wasn't as bad as they said it was.
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: So I'm going to try it all. I'm going to
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: fuck bitches. I'm going to do crack, all that shit.
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: I did it all.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I love that. That's the crazy thing about drugs.
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: Fuck bitches and smoking crack. Which is funny because those
- 1:05:11Speaker 5: two things really don't go together actually. But anyway, I
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: like spread this rumor about myself. I was snorting heroin
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: on my desk in geometry class.
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: And I did it because I got off to like
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: how everybody thought I was crazy and I liked it.
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: I liked people thinking I was crazy. So I let
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: the rumors spread.
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: When they got back to me, it was like, oh,
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: Adi slangs crack downtown to pay for his high school, la, la, la.
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: That's like what they were saying about me. And I
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: confirmed all of this. To pay for your own way
- 1:05:41Speaker 5: to private school?
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: Why would I do that, first of all?
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: Second of all, I confirmed it all. I was like, yeah,
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: all that's true. And let me tell you something, bro.
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: No one fucked with me. Like, everyone let me be.
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: They thought I was cool, whatever. And that was my
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: way of like, Getting all those guys to fuck off,
- 1:05:56Speaker 5: you know? It's an entrepreneurial thing, bro. Yeah, that dude is,
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: that dude is.
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: It's always been like that.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: It's also like doing the most for like what?
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: That was a fun time though, bro. Yeah, we used
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: to always hear stories about Lil Wayne driving to school.
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: Did y'all hear that story?
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: Uh-uh.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: That Lil Wayne, like somebody got him a car when
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: he was 14.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: He didn't even have a license. I believe it. And
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: he would drive.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: To school when it was like a Hummer, I don't know,
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: whatever was hot at the time.
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: Fucking Prowler. Yeah, something like that.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: And he would drive in park by the teachers and shit.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: And nobody said nothing. That was like a rumor that
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: we always heard.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Shit, that dude was famous since he was 14. That
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: shit's crazy.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: And in juvenile, they used to have a rumor he
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: chased a woman with an ice pick.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: That wasn't a rumor. I'm pretty sure that was real.
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: On the North Shore. Yeah, in the neighborhood I live in.
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: I remember like... So as a result of that, when
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: I was.
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: At least name a road after him, bro.
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: Check this out. When they found out I was moving in,
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: the whole HOA had a meeting about a rapper. Oh, just... No,
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: when I first moved into that neighborhood a couple years ago,
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: they had a meeting about whether or not we like
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: this rapper moving in.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: But I mean, little do they know that.
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: I mean, dude, I'm so low key, bro. It happened
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: to us too when we had recently moved to Florida.
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: Oh, Florida too.
- 1:07:13Speaker 5: Yeah, and they found out these two rappers were moving
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: into the neighborhood and they threw a fucking fit, bro.
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: They were not having it and then we move in,
- 1:07:19Speaker 5: they realize- We like are quiet, nice, friendly guys. I
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: was like picking up my neighbor's kid from his school.
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: Yeah, bro.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: Well, I think there's been a history of like, I mean,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: you had like, when I was in college, Master P
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: would come over to the rec center and shoot ball.
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: Oh, really?
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: And he would come with Silk. And he would come with.
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: Shout out Silk. Yeah.
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: He would come with. Silk's still in jail.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: Isn't he? No, C-Murder's still in jail. C-Murder, yeah.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: C-Murder would come with him. And they would have all
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: kind of guys over there. But then some of those, yeah,
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: like see, Murder went to jail. You had Juvenile went
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: to jail for a while. Then BG went to jail.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: I think there's so much history of a lot of
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: New Orleans rappers, like Mystical went to jail.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: So you have a lot of that culture. I think
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: it probably- Damn, I didn't even put.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: All that together. How many New Orleans rappers?
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: It gets fearful for a lot of guys. You know,
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: Boosie was in jail for- A long time.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: Like what, five years, four years?
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: Yeah, eight, I think. Maybe seven.
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: Eight? Goddamn.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: Goddamn. I mean, when you think about that. That's crazy.
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: That's why Boosie moved out, bro. That's why he got
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: out of here. BG was in jail for like a decade.
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: I know.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: When my dad was in jail.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: Really?
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: BG was in jail. No way.
- 1:08:22Speaker 5: His dad told us a story about his dad was
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: in St. Tammany and so was BG. Apparently, BG one
- 1:08:28Speaker 5: day just got fed up. Because imagine being a rapper,
- 1:08:30Speaker 5: you go to jail, how many people are trying to
- 1:08:31Speaker 5: freestyle to you?
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: Oh, my God. You know, like, put me on, whatever.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: Put me on and I'm in jail. Yeah, put me on.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: Just walking in here, they were doing it. But go ahead.
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: There you go. Exactly.
- 1:08:39Speaker 5: So apparently, BG one day makes an announcement to everybody saying,
- 1:08:43Speaker 5: If one more motherfucker comes up to me in free size,
- 1:08:45Speaker 5: I'm gonna have a big problem. And they said, okay, bet.
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: And they just beat the shit out of him anyway
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: or something like that.
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: Your dad was in St.
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: Tammany? Yeah, he was in St. Tammany. For like eight months,
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: ten months, something? Six.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: Six?
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: I think six months. It was a... It was a DUI. Oh,
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: he shot your first video. Like, that week he got out.
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: He got out. Yeah. It was so fucking crazy. It
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: was like his first day out video type shit. You being.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: Did you guys' success give him like any cloud in
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: the pan, did he say, or anything like that?
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: That was way after. Yeah, that was before.
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: That was like actually right before we linked.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: Up and stuff. Do y'all see that Rick Ross car show, man? No,
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: I know he's been, yeah, I know he puts one on.
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: He put one on in his front yard.
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: You trying to go?
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: I think it just happened. I saw that Boosie before.
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: Look at this in his front yard. I got to
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: put my prescription on. That's his car's? No, people bring
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: their cars, bro. So they pay to buy tickets to
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: go to this.
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: They probably got some crazy whips out there. Bro, there's
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: a couple. Damn. Was this in Miami? Looks like it. Atlanta, maybe?
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: I think it's, yeah. There's one. Damn. That's pretty wild.
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: I've never seen a shoe like that before.
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: Yeah, that's pretty cool. See, you get the one with
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: the horses, bro. When you roll in, they got horses.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, that's... I think that's a van that Holyfield's
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: house he bought. What is that, a fucking Ferrari? Yep.
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: Just as a horse trough?
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: What the fuck, bro?
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: They got horses eating hay out of Ferraris, baby.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: Out of a horse, yeah. That's crazy. Yeah, that's more horsepower, bro.
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: People would just be thinking how to flex, bro.
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: That's horsepower right there.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: Bro, yeah, that's kind of like a wild, that's a.
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: People would be coming up with the craziest ways to flex.
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: Because you have to now.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: You have to.
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: How much bigger can chains get? How much more expensive
- 1:10:38Speaker 5: can your cars be? You got to start doing crazy shit.
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: Yeah, look at this guy. All these speakers.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: This dude. This is wild looking. Bro, is that that
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: fucking Toyota? You know what I'm talking about? Those SUVs?
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the FJ.
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: FJ, yeah. That's crazy. Damn. With the Dolphins colors.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: Dude, my dad used to have a Cutlass. My dad
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: bought a Cutlass from a couple brothers that live around
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: the corner from us when I was a kid. I've
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: told this story before, but I only have so much stories.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: And my dad was probably 80 years old at the time, right?
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: So he bars this bitch that had 22s in the trunk, right?
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: He has no idea.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: He can't even fucking hear. So, bro, he would take- Uh, yeah.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: 22s? Bro. That's fucking huge. Oh, bro, it was huge, bro.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: He got him. Holy shit.
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: I had the trunk closed, bro.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: The dude had to get rid of it quick, bro.
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: So my dad ended up with it, dude. And he
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: would take us.
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: To school, bro.
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: That thing would just be huge. What the fuck?
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: Bro, my brother got braces and bitches fucking shit.
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: What were y'all listening to?
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: NPR radio.
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: Fuck.
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: The news, bro. Cloudy. 80% chance of what? That thunder hit, though.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: That thunder hit with them 22s, bro.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: Dude, on Q93, though, it would be crazy because even
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: the weather was like, we got them up A fucking
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: 30% chance of them being hot as a motherfucker.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: It would always be like, damn, this is an adventure, bro.
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: It might be raining, bitches. Y'all stay woke.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: It was always like the weirdest weather report on Q93, man.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: A little bounce beat going behind it.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: It would always be something, bro. And B97, that was
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: another one they had before that.
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: B-97 was more like top 40, but because it was
- 1:12:21Speaker 5: New Orleans, they also did some hot boy shit.
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: Wasn't Mark involved in B-97? Kyle's dad was GM.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: Yeah, and who's here with you today? Just so I know,
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: just so we can reference him. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: This is our management, Kyle and Dana. Kyle and Dana. Yeah,
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: nice to see you guys, man.
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: Respect.
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: As much as they try to stay behind the scenes,
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: we always make sure they get seen.
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: At least a couple times.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: But y'all's whole world is like that, man. Everything is
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: what I'm saying. It just feels like it's, y'all, it
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: feels indie. But not in a bad way. It just
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: feels like it's y'all's world.
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: It is.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: Even that little thing right there. It's like a lot
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: of people don't have their man coming. If they do, yeah,
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: they're in a suit or something. It just feels like it's...
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: It's family to us, bro. Everybody around us.
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: We've been through so much with these guys. It's our
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: four-person team right here.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: Yeah, like some people, like Will Smith was going to
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: come on.
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: Come on. But he had some issues.
- 1:13:09Speaker 4: What was it?
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: It was like.
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: It was like a scheduling thing, and he wanted a
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: little more control over it.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: Like we, there was things where like we couldn't, like
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: just you couldn't ask about it, you know, so it
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: was almost like then you're just an advertisement for like
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: a movie or something.
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: If you do not want to ask, like talk about
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: the slap.
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: Yeah, or even you couldn't even ask, and I wouldn't
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: have said like, hey, what do you hit a guy
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: or something?
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: I would be like.
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: Maybe what's been going on in your life that that's been,
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: that's been hectic for you the past couple of years,
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: you know, just talk about like what makes you feel
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: like that. Yeah. I don't need to know like the
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: detail just seemed like he would be having a tough
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: time probably.
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: Unless something was going on between them guys. But, but
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: a lot of times too, it's the agents that'll say
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: that shit and the artists or whatever, don't have any clue.
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: You know, it's just how they want to control and
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: pop and prop.
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: Not us. We talk all the time.
- 1:13:58Speaker 5: Everybody's on the same page because a lot of things
- 1:14:00Speaker 5: didn't happen because of being fucked up from all of us.
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: We all have dropped the ball at some point a
- 1:14:07Speaker 5: little bit with communication, so now the four of us,
- 1:14:10Speaker 5: that is the most important thing is communication and trust.
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: So any fucking relationship. It doesn't matter if it's professional
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: or romantic. It's hard to find people to trust, bro.
- 1:14:20Speaker 4: I have a lot of trust issues. I've been fucked
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: over a lot in many ways. So I'm grateful.
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: That I have him and I got these guys. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: Kyle's my best friend.
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: I mean, we're all brothers now, but me and Kyle
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: were best friends since high school.
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: He helped wash them bike tires off your shoes.
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: But, bro, we wouldn't. I mean, we were doing our thing,
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: and they helped take us to another level. You know
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: what I'm saying?
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: It really is. Only good things can only happen with
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: a group effort. It's definitely.
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: Kanye said something not that long ago, man, where he's like, something,
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: I'm going to mess it up, but something to the
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: effect of like nothing's a solo project.
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: Nothing is a solo project.
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: You know, like nothing's a solo, to your point, you
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: know what I'm saying? Like it takes a team of people.
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: It really does. I believe that.
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: And even then the team of people to absorb it
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: and listen to it and want to feel it.
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: You know, because it's interesting that listeners of things, and
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: even us when we listen to stuff, we get a
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: whole different thing out of it than the creator gets.
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: It's really kind of wild. That's actually a good point, Theo.
- 1:15:26Speaker 5: I don't think that point gets brought up enough either
- 1:15:28Speaker 5: because the listeners or the audience rather is just as
- 1:15:31Speaker 5: important part. of what the fuck we do and what
- 1:15:34Speaker 5: you do. That doesn't get brought up a lot, I think.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: Yeah, because you could be a good chef, but if
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: nobody's enjoying this shit. You know, nobody thought they're licking
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: their lips or whatever. Or putting a little bit in
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: their napkin for the Doberman at home or whatever, bro.
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: Put some Zatarains on it.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: Oh, we used to have a lunch lady, bro. She'd
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: take everything. Bro, you wouldn't even be done. She'd be like,
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: I'm going to get this for my dog.
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: I'd be like. Bitch, I ain't even had one.
- 1:15:55Speaker 5: Can I have my crust back?
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: I'm about to put a fur coat on and fucking
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: hang out on your porch, then I'm fucking starving. Because
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: she come take it off your plate before you even
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: got to eat, man.
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: That's too funny.
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: But you guys love New Orleans. Are you guys featuring
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: a lot of you guys' videos and stuff? You know,
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: it's obviously like a part of your life that you,
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: so even if you haven't felt like as much of
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: a fan base here, you guys still have a lot
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: of love for Louisiana. Yeah.
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:16:21Speaker 5: I mean, dude, I think we both have a lot
- 1:16:23Speaker 5: of love for just the Gulf Coast in general. This
- 1:16:25Speaker 5: is the region we're from. We're comfortable here.
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: Shaped who we are. Yeah.
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: A lot of our personality, style.
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: Sure. All of that. But, yeah, I mean, dude, New Orleans.
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: And someone told us this early on. I remember this.
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: This is when.
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: So basically, if I can give you a visual presentation,
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: we were trying to go like this.
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: Start local, build regional. go like that.
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: Someone informed us, I'm grateful they did. This is when
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: SoundCloud started popping, internet rappers like Young.
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: Lean, Bones, Zay when he was Ethel Wolf, all that
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: was popping off.
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: Someone was like, you basically got to attack the internet
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: because everybody here knows who you are. Johnny sees you
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: at the gas station three times a week buying cigarettes.
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: He ain't really buying what you're selling. Whereas when you
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: go through the internet, and that's what we.
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: Did, we were able to create this thing where we
- 1:17:29Speaker 4: got poppin' in all these other places first, and it
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: literally started from Russia and then came back to New Orleans.
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: New Orleans was the last place.
- 1:17:38Speaker 5: The advice was don't go local to international. Do the
- 1:17:42Speaker 5: internet and attack an international crowd first because your hometown...
- 1:17:45Speaker 5: It's gonna be the last place that fucks with you.
- 1:17:47Speaker 5: And it's true because you sure don't fuck with us.
- 1:17:50Speaker 5: It's true.
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: Deadass. But y'all, it's so interesting because there's a lot
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: of New Orleans in it.
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: There's a lot of New Orleans in it.
- 1:17:59Speaker 5: Dude, it shaped us. Me and him, bro, we worshipped
- 1:18:04Speaker 5: cash money. We loved hot boys. We wanted to be
- 1:18:06Speaker 5: Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne was a huge influence on both
- 1:18:09Speaker 5: of us. And I would argue that Master P is
- 1:18:12Speaker 5: a huge inspiration to me and him. how that motherfucker
- 1:18:15Speaker 5: started a label, had a rapping career, almost made it
- 1:18:18Speaker 5: to the NBA, was putting his son in Nickelodeon shows,
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: he was making movies. This motherfucker's a renaissance man.
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: Oh, he was one of the first kind of black,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: he was kind of an early Tyler Perry to everybody,
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: especially from this area.
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: He's worth like 600 mil, bro. He was a huge
- 1:18:32Speaker 5: inspiration to us. Somebody that could just achieve all that.
- 1:18:35Speaker 5: And especially from being from Calio Projects, you know? If
- 1:18:39Speaker 5: we're not from the Calio Projects, what's our excuse of
- 1:18:41Speaker 5: not making it?
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: You know what I mean? This guy went from literally
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: rags to riches. Big inspiration on us.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: To us.
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: A big reason. A big inspiration behind.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: Doing the label rather than just focusing solely on Suicide Boys.
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: That's a good point. That was why we did G59.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: It was because of Cash Money No Limit.
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: And then how do you get, like, is Cheddar on G59?
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay. Cheddar, Night Lavelle. Germ Shake.
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: Germ Shake, Ramirez. Yeah.
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: Okay. We have about five artists, six including ourselves. Yeah.
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: And so a lot of those guys will tour with you.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: I know Cheddar toured the last tour that I saw
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: he was on.
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: 2021. Yeah. So. This year we're taking Shakewell.
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: Shakewell. We try to switch it up. Every tour, you know.
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: And also set those guys up. They do a great
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: job of setting those guys up on their own tour
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: so they get their own shine.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: Yeah, Cheddar just came out with an album.
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: Yeah. What's it called? Sacrifice and sabotage. Yeah, man, he's great, bro.
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: He's a good dude, bro. I love him, man. He
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: and I have become pretty close. Yeah, he's a good dude.
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: He's a hard worker.
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: He is. He got a big heart, bro.
- 1:19:48Speaker 4: He's the only person besides me that I know that
- 1:19:50Speaker 4: works as much as I do, bro.
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: He gets it in.
- 1:19:54Speaker 5: We try to show the boys love, and we've taken
- 1:19:57Speaker 5: them on Gray Day and stuff, but with the other
- 1:20:00Speaker 5: artists on our label, we try to take them on tour,
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: but also, like he said, set them up on their
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: own tours because it's important to Bro, anything in this
- 1:20:08Speaker 5: world that you get through hard work is going to
- 1:20:10Speaker 5: be yours to keep for a very long time. But
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: anything that was handed to you that you got very easily,
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: it's not going to last very long. So it's important
- 1:20:18Speaker 5: that these guys grind. We're behind them. We support them
- 1:20:21Speaker 5: and push them to grind and make your own audience.
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: You can borrow some of ours, but I don't want
- 1:20:26Speaker 5: that for you because it's not going to last long.
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: I want you guys to have your fans that you earned,
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: and I want it to be as big as it
- 1:20:33Speaker 5: possibly can. And whatever we can do, To do that,
- 1:20:35Speaker 5: we will. I don't think the shortcut of just giving
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: it to you is going to work.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: It's not going to work. Yeah, yeah. And a lot
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: of it's inspiration. No, it won't. That's a good point, too.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: And a lot of it is, even if you're just
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: other artists who are around each other, you inspire each other.
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: You know? Yeah.
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: Like, you're like, oh, I'm learning from this beat or
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: this thing. Or like, oh, this is cool. Or wow,
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: look what he brought in.
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: And that's, you know.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: It's definitely like you guys' own. It's almost your own
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: galaxy or something. Your own solar system you all have
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: going on.
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: Yeah. Thank you. Yeah. It's interesting, man.
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: So yeah, what is gonna be different about the new music?
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: What do you feel like if you had to be
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: specific about it?
- 1:21:10Speaker 4: Bro, I think Scott agrees with me. But sometimes when
- 1:21:14Speaker 4: we make albums or projects and we don't really like... I.
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: Don't know how to explain this.
- 1:21:22Speaker 5: There's been projects that we put out that we thought
- 1:21:25Speaker 5: were great and we wanted to do all these things
- 1:21:28Speaker 5: for it. And they were great projects and they did
- 1:21:30Speaker 5: their thing and they came and went. But there's been
- 1:21:32Speaker 5: a couple... where we didn't even think about it.
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: And I don't know.
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: I have this weird feeling that this album is going
- 1:21:38Speaker 4: to be huge.
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:21:39Speaker 5: And I'm not just saying that to promote it or whatever.
- 1:21:41Speaker 5: I'm not really one for self-promotion. But we both have
- 1:21:44Speaker 5: this weird feeling. It's like when we don't try is
- 1:21:46Speaker 5: what I'm trying to say.
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:21:47Speaker 5: When we don't try, we make a fucking masterpiece. But
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: when we're trying too hard, we make some try-hard shit.
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: That doesn't sound as good.
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: Try-hard shit, that's such a good term, man.
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that is good.
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: Because sometimes we'll work on a clip or something, and
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: it's like after we kicked it, you can just tell like, man, yes,
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: we just try to shine this to her, get it,
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: you know, do something.
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: And then we mess it up. Oh, I was just gonna,
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: you know, it gets like, we never wanted to be
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: in a box.
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: We said that from the beginning, we wanted to be
- 1:22:15Speaker 4: able to make whatever we wanted to make at any time.
- 1:22:17Speaker 4: But as you grow, as you grow a fan base
- 1:22:20Speaker 4: in this community, they get, they have expectations, you know?
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: Um, Luckily, I feel like a lot of them have
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: grown with us.
- 1:22:29Speaker 4: There's still some of those out there that still, Suicide
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: Balls was better in 2015.
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: You were better when you were on drugs, whatever. But
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: to his point, this is my favorite album. I feel
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: like I say that a.
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: Lot, but Kyle always says, he's like, dude, y'all just
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: get better and better and better. I don't understand it either.
- 1:22:52Speaker 4: I'm 35 years old. I'm like, You know what I'm saying?
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: I should be retiring soon. But I do think one
- 1:22:58Speaker 4: thing that has helped, you know, Suicide Boy sometimes can
- 1:23:04Speaker 4: feel like.
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: A job.
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: Because there's deadlines. There's, like, we got to get it done.
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: There's expectations. I think one thing that has helped, like,
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: release the valve a little bit and, like, let some
- 1:23:17Speaker 4: of the pressure off, he's been doing Duck Boy.
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 1:23:21Speaker 4: Which is like going back to his roots and doing
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: his band stuff and experimenting and being able to be free.
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: And same with me. I've been able to experiment with
- 1:23:31Speaker 4: some sound solo-wise.
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: And then when we do that, I feel like we
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: feel refreshed. We feel loose.
- 1:23:38Speaker 4: And then when we come back to SB, you know
- 1:23:40Speaker 4: what I'm saying? You're actually excited.
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: The pressure. I don't know. I don't know how to
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: explain it.
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: Well, you still feel like an individual, I think, because
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: there's something that, I'm sure once you're in a group
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: that part of the individuality is there, but it's partnered
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: with something. So to be able to develop yourself more
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: and then bring it to anything is probably pretty cool.
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: And to still remind yourself that you can develop as
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: an individual.
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: I bet that's interesting. Is there collabs and stuff on this?
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: No. No. No, we never, we never really big on collabs.
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: You guys don't do a lot of it.
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: So is, yeah, I was just wondering, is it, is
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: it something you guys ever think about or do people
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: reach out about it?
- 1:24:21Speaker 5: We were supposed to do something with ski mask recently. Um,
- 1:24:24Speaker 5: but the thing is, dude, if you don't catch us
- 1:24:27Speaker 5: when you catch us, you're going to be waiting another year.
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: Right. Cause we move quick.
- 1:24:31Speaker 5: And if, if you, if you pass it up and like, bro,
- 1:24:34Speaker 5: we can't rewind and go back. We still, we have
- 1:24:36Speaker 5: a lot of shit on our own. on our own
- 1:24:38Speaker 5: plates that we have to get done.
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: So. That is the hardest part about collabs. Kind of
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: like how it happens. Is like getting it back in time.
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:24:44Speaker 4: Like getting it done. I think it's best whenever we,
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: like whenever we do joint projects, like we did with Germ, Shakewell,
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: when we all get in a room together. and we're
- 1:24:53Speaker 4: able to just like pound it out for a week
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: or two. Yeah, we just lock ourselves in the room
- 1:24:56Speaker 4: for a week and knock it out. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: I love listening to Shakewell, dude. Shakewell's a very talented fucker.
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: And he's so entertaining, bro. Yeah, bro.
- 1:25:03Speaker 4: I was out watching that. He was in that movie.
- 1:25:06Speaker 4: You and him were in that movie, right? Yeah. I
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: was thinking about that yesterday.
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: Oh, we hung out together for like probably two weeks
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: every day. Bro, that's a solid fucking dude right there.
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: Yeah, he's awesome.
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: Shakewell.
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: So nice.
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: And just so like, I love how excited he gets
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: when he like gets kind of some information.
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: He's kind of telling you something.
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: Yeah. You know, like it's a, he gets that look
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: in his eye. Yeah.
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: It's cool. He's just such a warm guy.
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: Yeah. And very talented.
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: So talented, man. I watched, they have that video. I
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: think it's with Pouya. It's like one, it's all shot
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: in one.
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: Scrubs. Yeah.
- 1:25:39Speaker 5: That was really Shakewell's like kind of coming out to
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: the world right there. It was, that was like his, his, yeah,
- 1:25:42Speaker 5: it's old.
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: It's old.
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: Get you up in the scrubs Since day one The
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: best There's a comment on it too It's like Imagine
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: you just Going in to pay for gas And you
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: get stuck behind Two guys Making a rap video That's
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: funny But it was great man They did.
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: It But all you want is 20 on pump four
- 1:25:59Speaker 4: And the dude's ahead Of you making rap Yeah That
- 1:26:01Speaker 4: was so good Pull that credit card out But.
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: Yeah man When he gets those braids He's got that
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: Native American look In him a little bit Cause didn't
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: he spark Mexican Didn't he?
- 1:26:09Speaker 4: Half Mexican Yeah Fucking He has that it factor to
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: him you know what i'm like you can have all
- 1:26:15Speaker 4: the talent in the world um but it's you got
- 1:26:19Speaker 4: to have that it factor.
- 1:26:20Speaker 5: Shake you can tell it just comes naturally to him
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: yes yeah shake had a background in the hardcore world
- 1:26:25Speaker 5: playing bass in that band betrayal and shit that like
- 1:26:28Speaker 5: metal rock hardcore shit uh so he had experience in
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: music and playing shows and i met him we both
- 1:26:34Speaker 5: met him when we went to la for the very
- 1:26:36Speaker 5: first time we go to fat nick and krez's crib
- 1:26:39Speaker 5: there's like Within, I don't know, a couple hours, it's
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: a party all of a sudden.
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: And in LA, I think that just kind of happens.
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: There's no plans.
- 1:26:48Speaker 5: So we must have met 30 fucking people that night.
- 1:26:50Speaker 5: I don't remember a single one of them until Shakewell
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: was one that was consistent, consistently hanging around Pouya and stuff.
- 1:26:57Speaker 5: And then we were like, oh, you make music too?
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: And when people tell you that and you have a
- 1:27:02Speaker 5: little success with music, you don't really know where the
- 1:27:05Speaker 5: boundary is. Are they going to want me to listen
- 1:27:07Speaker 5: to it? Am I going to like it?
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: His shit was fire, and we kept our eye on
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: him for a long time.
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: Did you guys ever tour in any of the same
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: circles as guys like Mac Miller, Lil Peep, those guys?
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: That's so fucking weird that you bring that up. We
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: were just talking about this yesterday.
- 1:27:21Speaker 5: We did a festival once in Sweden called Bravala back
- 1:27:25Speaker 5: in 2017, our first European run. And that festival's not
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: a festival anymore because too many dudes were groping chicks
- 1:27:31Speaker 5: like sexual assault style.
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: Yeah, watch it, dudes. Yeah, watch it, guys.
- 1:27:34Speaker 5: We actually had to cut the show short a couple
- 1:27:36Speaker 5: times to tell them Back up, stop trying to grab titties, whatever. Anyway,
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: Mac Miller was at this festival, and that was the
- 1:27:43Speaker 5: first time we met him and kind of kicked it
- 1:27:45Speaker 5: with him a little bit. We also met Linkin Park
- 1:27:48Speaker 5: that day, too. Met Chester and Mike, and Chester committed
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: suicide a month after that.
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: It was insane. Met Sway Lee, too. Sway's dope, huh? Yeah.
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: He's a cool guy. He's a guy that- Bro, imagine Jimmy.
- 1:28:01Speaker 4: Nobody fucks with us. And I'm walking, and I hear, hey, scram.
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: And like that high-pitched voice, I turn around and Sway Lee.
- 1:28:09Speaker 4: So I'm just, you know, in that moment.
- 1:28:10Speaker 2: I'm like, what the fuck is going on, dude? It's
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: pretty surreal.
- 1:28:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: It was one of those moments meeting all them people
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: where I'm like, bro, what the fuck is going on?
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: Because we don't get the.
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: Nod from a lot of industry artists or artists in
- 1:28:21Speaker 5: the industry, rather. So we're always curious. But some of you,
- 1:28:25Speaker 5: you enjoy that probably, right? Like it's probably good you're
- 1:28:28Speaker 5: doing our own shit.
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: I still work every day like I'm broke. Yeah. I'm
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: in the studio every day.
- 1:28:35Speaker 4: I got this chip on my shoulder that I can't
- 1:28:39Speaker 4: get off.
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: And that's part of it. What do you think that
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: has to do with sobriety?
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: A little bit? I think so.
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: You're right.
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: 100%.
- 1:28:46Speaker 5: Because I got like that. Dude, I would wake up
- 1:28:48Speaker 5: at 1 p.m. on a Wednesday like it was nothing.
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: I didn't give a shit.
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: And now I can't sleep late.
- 1:28:54Speaker 5: If I'm not cleaning the house or doing something productive,
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: I feel like a fucking piece of shit.
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: I think sobriety is a big good point.
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: Yeah. I think I fell in love with my work.
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: You know, I don't have a wife or nothing yet
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: or anything, but I think my first love is my work.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: It's like, and I remember back to relationships I was in,
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: I would get home with my girl. We'd have gone
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: and done something. And then next thing I know, I
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: always remember I'm on my computer.
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: I'm doing something. Yeah.
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: And she's like waiting to watch a show together, watch
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: a movie or make some popcorn. And then after a
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: while she's gone.
- 1:29:23Speaker 4: Yeah. I've been in a relationship now almost four years. Uh,
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: and it's, To your point, she was like, she respects it.
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: She knows how I am. She knows how I work.
- 1:29:35Speaker 4: She respects it.
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: I can see how it would get frustrating from the
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: female point of view.
- 1:29:38Speaker 4: She was like, can you at least just start taking
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: the weekends off and hanging out with me?
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: And I was like, yeah, you got a point. I
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: can do that.
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: Recently, I had to start cutting off work at 6 o'clock,
- 1:29:50Speaker 5: 7 o'clock for the West Coast. Because with this job,
- 1:29:55Speaker 5: whatever you want to call it, There's no hours. It's
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: not a nine to five. Things can pop up at
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: 1 a.m. Things could pop up any day of the
- 1:30:01Speaker 5: week and you don't know when or where it's coming from.
- 1:30:03Speaker 5: So I kind of for myself had to set something
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: up to where it's like after six, it can wait
- 1:30:07Speaker 5: till the fucking morning.
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: Yeah. Unless it's an emergency. Yeah. But I had to
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: put that limit on myself. Like, yeah.
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: You don't realize.
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: Yeah. You kind of just start to think, oh, I
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: just have to work, but it's not really true. It's
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: your own choice.
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: Then you wonder why am I going fucking crazy? Oh,
- 1:30:20Speaker 5: because I have too much shit on my plate. I'm
- 1:30:22Speaker 5: trying to do too many things at once. And again,
- 1:30:23Speaker 5: I would attribute that to sobriety.
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: But all you guys' stuff is very hands-on. It's like
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: even all your merch, the way it looks, it's like, yeah,
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: it all like, just like the fonts, it's all very
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: specific to you guys' world.
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: Our merch, available next week. You're seeing two exclusive pieces.
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: Really? I want those, dude. This is from the album.
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: I'll give you this one when I leave. Crazy. I
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: got a shirt in the car, too, if you want. Oh,
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: I'll fuck, yeah. What size do you wear? Probably large
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: or XL.
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: High M to XL.
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: Okay. It's a high M. A medium, motherfucker?
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: This is a large.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: It's a big medium.
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: What the fuck's a big medium?
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: Kind of like a Toledo medium.
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: I heard a shmedium. I ain't never heard of a
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: big medium. A big medium. I never heard of a
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: big medium. Let me get them big mediums.
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: Dude, I remember one time, bro, we used to make
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: shirts before the Saints games, right? So it was like
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: we would get them printed. Oh, my sister had made
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: love to some dude or whatever, and that shit fell apart,
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: and he left in the– in the settlement or whatever
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: she got like 350 black t-shirts right and what yeah
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: like what large ones so let's just you know double
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: xls you know i'm saying fucking those brother that's how
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: i rock it yeah yeah yeah brother that's got a
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: fountain blue debut too yeah i still rock it like
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: that yeah that fountain blue uh it's like a fountain
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: blue uh homecoming dress for men or women that's what
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: she got in the settlement Yeah. That's pretty wild. So
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: she got 300 of them bitches. And she and I
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: were living together off of Claver, and so we're like, damn, bro,
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: we got to make some fucking money, you know? And
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: so we got some Saints shirts printed up with the
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: Saints shit on it, so it was illegal.
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: We couldn't have it. Oh, yeah.
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: So we're walking before the Saints games just with ice
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: chests and shit. I quit comedy for about maybe nine months,
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: and we're walking and trying to sell them bitches. And
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: some dude, angry dude, came up and tried to order
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: a couple big mediums.
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: Big mediums. That's what he said? Yeah.
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: We tried to help him, bro, but he wasn't willing
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: to negotiate his perspective of a medium.
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: Right, right, right. Can I put an M in front
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: of this L? You know what I'm saying?
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: Yeah, he was negotiating from a real unique angle.
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: He wanted an X medium. What a guy. I'd like
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: to meet him.
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: My girlfriend would walk around. I know she was so embarrassed.
- 1:32:44Speaker 2: Not embarrassed. She was supportive, but. He was like, this
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: dude's got to get a fucking job. Sounded like my dad, bro,
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: when we were early on. Yeah? He's like, you're running
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: up my fucking AC bill. You're running up it.
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, dude.
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: When this shit's going to work, you need to go
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: get a fucking job. About music, you mean? Yeah, this
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: was early on. Because we were in the studio all
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: the time.
- 1:33:04Speaker 4: So the studio we had was a little, one of those,
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: you know them sheds you can buy at Home Depot?
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:33:09Speaker 4: And set up, it was that.
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: Especially this is back in 2002.
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: The brand with the plywood and what's the house?
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: This was like, what's the... fake plywood paneling or whatever.
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: Rob Markman, Yeah, something like that. Rob Markman, A plastic
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: looking wood.
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: Rob Markman, My mom did hair in there and then
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: she quit doing it. We turned it into a studio.
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: So I was living there on the couch. We were
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: working in there. He'd come up like three, four days
- 1:33:27Speaker 4: out the week and sleep over there. Rob Markman, Everything
- 1:33:29Speaker 4: before I Want to Die was made in there.
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: Everything. Rob Markman, Yeah.
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: Even some of I Want to Die was.
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: Rob Markman, Some of it, yeah. Rob Markman, Yeah, some
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: of it was made in there. Rob Markman, Fucking King Tulip.
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: Rob Markman, That place is legendary. But yeah, he was
- 1:33:38Speaker 4: bitching at me, bro. He's like, bro, you got to
- 1:33:39Speaker 4: go get some fucking money, dude. You running my shit
- 1:33:43Speaker 4: up or you got people eating my fucking pantry out
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: and shit.
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, bro. Moms would always say that. Well, you
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: know how it's coming from here, bro. They think of Hollywood.
- 1:33:53Speaker 4: They're like, man, this fucking pie.
- 1:33:55Speaker 2: Like, go to the shipyard, bro. Get a job. Yeah,
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: go to the shipyard.
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: Yeah. My mom used to always tell us to get
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: a paper route or whatever. I'm like, everybody goes missing
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: in this neighborhood. But yeah, I'm trying to think of
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: the jobs we would get, man.
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: I would just work at my dad's restaurant. Oh, Snowball Stand, bro.
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: How many families in New Orleans have fallen apart over
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: joint-owned Snowball Stand?
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: I don't know, bro.
- 1:34:22Speaker 5: Someone should look into that. People down here take them
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: things fucking seriously, bro. Depending on the style of shaved
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: ice it is, the quality of the syrup. People take
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: that shit mad serious down here. Yeah, like we get
- 1:34:33Speaker 5: the syrup fresh from Italy. People saying all kind of
- 1:34:35Speaker 5: bullshit or whatever.
- 1:34:37Speaker 4: You'll have somebody out of state being like, oh, a
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: snow cone. And people are like, uh-uh, it's a snowball.
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: They get very defensive. It's a snowball, bruh.
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, bro.
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: My buddy Thomas Macaluso used to go to Jesuit Ibrahim.
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: That sounds so familiar.
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: He used to make fake IDs and he was always
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: selling those.
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: Macaluso's like a big New Orleans name, I think. Yeah.
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: His brother's a cop. Fucking T-Mac, he's the best, bro.
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: Damn, I just.
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: And he had a snowball stand and he opened up
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: an Italian restaurant, bro.
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: That's the Holy Trinity, bro. Right there. Snowball stand, there
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: you go. Snowball stand, an Italian restaurant.
- 1:35:10Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, bro.
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: That also does po'boys.
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: Oh, for sure, bro. You know? Get a snow cone
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: on French bread if you want, bro. They'll do it
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: like that. They do pickle juice in the snowballs. Like,
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: that's a flavor. Yeah, it's a West Bank thing.
- 1:35:22Speaker 2: They'll do pickle juice. Sounds like it.
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: People do everything, dude. Bags, shrimp on the side of
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: the road, strawberries.
- 1:35:28Speaker 5: I can't tell you how many crawfish shells I see
- 1:35:31Speaker 5: just scattered.
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: I thought we were going to do this.
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: Chicken bones. Do this shit in the woods. I know
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: you talked about it. I thought about it.
- 1:35:36Speaker 4: It's too hot, bro.
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: It's too hot, bro. And the sounds, too. Yeah.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: We'll have to catch it. But we got the streetcar
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: going by. This is a- Oh, yeah.
- 1:35:42Speaker 4: This is good. We were in here last night for
- 1:35:44Speaker 4: a couple hours. These guys were in here.
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: The vibes are right. We wanted to make it nice
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: for you guys, man.
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: Fuck yeah. So this tour, where will you guys go?
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: I know you guys would go abroad and stuff like that,
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: but are there new places you add? Are there hot pockets?
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: You said Russia was one of the places that- One
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: of the first.
- 1:36:00Speaker 2: That was one of the first places we ever went.
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: That's crazy. What?
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: Yeah, bro. From fucking Laplace to Russia, bro?
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty much.
- 1:36:08Speaker 4: We like- brought my dad with us because... He was
- 1:36:10Speaker 4: our DJ.
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: He was our DJ, bro.
- 1:36:14Speaker 5: Not only that, but we didn't want to go to
- 1:36:16Speaker 5: Russia dolo because we were worried about customs and we
- 1:36:19Speaker 5: really had no experience traveling.
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: If y'all saw Russia immediately, I would put y'all, dude.
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: Two of y'all make one Britney grind.
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: It was sketch, bro. I remember two things.
- 1:36:29Speaker 5: One, my dad ended up being the DJ and it
- 1:36:32Speaker 5: was funny because we had Scott's MacBook.
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: Didn't we do this all for like a thousand bucks, too?
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: The Russian shit? It was cheap.
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: I think it was like something like that, two grand maybe.
- 1:36:42Speaker 4: How'd you even find out they were your fans? Somebody
- 1:36:45Speaker 4: hit us up asking if we... He emailed us.
- 1:36:48Speaker 5: He was a promoter in Russia asking if we wanted
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: to come over there and play a few shows because
- 1:36:51Speaker 5: we had a fan base out there.
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: And we said, yeah, sure.
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: And back then, the experience was cool enough. We didn't
- 1:36:57Speaker 5: care about the money. That was just a bonus. So
- 1:36:59Speaker 5: we went to Russia, did Minsk, Belarus... uh, St. Petersburg
- 1:37:03Speaker 5: and Moscow.
- 1:37:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:37:04Speaker 4: My dad's up there behind us. First of all, hottest
- 1:37:06Speaker 4: fucking shows ever.
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:37:08Speaker 5: And my dad's on the MacBook and we taught him like,
- 1:37:10Speaker 5: this means press the space bar to stop the song.
- 1:37:13Speaker 5: If we do this, that means slowly turn it down.
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: It's funny. He's sitting there with his glasses like, And
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: he was so nervous, dude.
- 1:37:21Speaker 4: He's in his 50s.
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: He's in his 60s now. Late 50s back then, yeah.
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: Oh, that'll age you 10 years, Stan.
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: I could tell he was nervous as fuck. I felt bad.
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: Where was it where they rushed the stage?
- 1:37:33Speaker 4: That was.
- 1:37:35Speaker 2: Minsk?
- 1:37:36Speaker 4: So we're in Minsk.
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: If they rush the stage, hit the space bar.
- 1:37:39Speaker 4: Last song. Last song. Literally, the whole crowd runs up
- 1:37:44Speaker 4: on the stage. I look back.
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: I see Uncle Pablo. I see his dad. just sitting
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: there like surrounded by people. He's, he's flipping the fuck out.
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: I was like, turn it down or space. Yeah.
- 1:37:55Speaker 4: It looked like he was floating. Like they were carrying them.
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: You know, that was the youngest show we've ever played.
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: All those kids were.
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: Like 12, 13.
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: Yeah. It was wow. Minsk was interesting. I'd never even
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: heard of Minsk.
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: It's just right outside Russia.
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: Just the fact that you're even saying that to think
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: that you could make something right, that you could make
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: something on the fucking West bank, that you could make something, um,
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: in a parish, just in a small town in Louisiana,
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: and then there's people in Minsk, Russia.
- 1:38:23Speaker 2: It's crazy. It trips me out, bro. It honestly is crazy.
- 1:38:25Speaker 4: It really does.
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: It's unreal, man. Yeah, and this year we went... went
- 1:38:30Speaker 2: back to Australia and New Zealand.
- 1:38:33Speaker 4: Oh, is that it?
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: Holy shit, bro. That's Russia? I have in Minsk.
- 1:38:37Speaker 4: Holy shit. 1305, 16.
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: Wow, they have 13 months there?
- 1:38:42Speaker 4: Yeah, holy shit. Yeah, what the? Oh, no, they put
- 1:38:47Speaker 4: their days before the month.
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: I remember after this show, this is what, Minsk?
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: Look at him.
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: Look at him. Look at him. Look at him by
- 1:38:56Speaker 2: the DJ. Dad in the back?
- 1:38:57Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: That's my dad fucking DJing.
- 1:39:00Speaker 4: Focused.
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: Damn, focused as fuck, bro. DJ Uncle P. He's like,
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: down Space Park.
- 1:39:07Speaker 4: He was a nervous wreck. Bro, he ain't moving. Of
- 1:39:10Speaker 4: course he ain't moving, bro.
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: He got funny. He looked like a statue. Bro, it's
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: like when you're driving with two foot on each pedal.
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: yeah dude that is so funny that bro shout out
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: uncle p.

- 1:40:17Speaker 1: place y'all would go eat at and stuff? Did y'all ever,
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: when your family would go out to eat when you
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: were kids, was there a spot your family would go
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: that was kind of a nice place?
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: No, Pizza Hut.
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: Pizza Hut when you could sit down?
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: Yeah. You remember that?
- 1:40:30Speaker 4: When it was like, it had that aura to it,
- 1:40:33Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying?
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: Nice, bro.
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: It had that aesthetic. Not anymore.
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: Go in.
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: I don't think we really ever went out as a
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: family when I was younger. Yeah, we didn't either.
- 1:40:40Speaker 4: Our.
- 1:40:41Speaker 2: Our biggest. That one.
- 1:40:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: Yeah, that was so nice.
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: Now it's like a trap house for Ragu, dude.
- 1:40:48Speaker 4: Until this, I didn't see past Biloxi.
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: Biloxi was like. Maybe Pensacola.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: Maybe. Oh, dude, when I was growing up, bro, if somebody.
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: Went to Florida, bro. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: You thought they was the fucking richest guy in the world.
- 1:41:03Speaker 2: That's like the yacht.
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: Oh, we're going to Pensacola.
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: You'd see somebody had a t-shirt that said Florida on it.
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: You'd be like, this motherfucker.
- 1:41:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: Look at this fucking Republican. There's like a connection.
- 1:41:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:41:16Speaker 2: That's what you would think.
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: 100%, bro.
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: Look at this fucking Republican over here in Florida.
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: Fucking doing it.
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: There's a lot of Louisiana people in Florida.
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: It must be the Gulf Coast. I don't know. It's
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: just so close, but there's so many.
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: I won't say where, but we're on the panhandle and Yeah,
- 1:41:31Speaker 4: it's a lot of Louisiana transplants.
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: Well, Louisiana was some of the first people outside of
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: Florida to realize what a great spot Destin was, too.
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: Some brave people. I don't even know who it was.
- 1:41:41Speaker 4: Bro, that place was barren in like the 80s. No police,
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: no roads, no nothing. People lived out there. Let's say
- 1:41:48Speaker 4: they bought a house back then for $ 30K. I mean,
- 1:41:50Speaker 4: they're selling for like $ 10 million now.
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: It's nuts. That's crazy, bro. That place is hot right now.
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: You could have bought one, bro. Who? Anybody. I know,
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: we should have. Stupid. Well, it's funny because you said
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: about the Florida thing.
- 1:42:01Speaker 5: I think it was like if your family from Louisiana
- 1:42:05Speaker 5: goes to Florida for summer vacation, if you went to Pensacola,
- 1:42:08Speaker 5: you guys were well off.
- 1:42:09Speaker 2: But if you went to Destin, oh, shit. You were
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: damn royalty, bro. Might as well just, yeah.
- 1:42:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: I didn't know people that went to Dustin. Yeah.
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: Your stepdad must have owned a Subway or something.
- 1:42:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: We had a girl in Covington.
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: Yeah. Stepdad owned a Subway, and they'd always go to Dustin. Yeah.
- 1:42:25Speaker 4: Stepdad owned a K & B or whatever.
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: Those motherfuckers.
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: Dude, I got a blowjob from Jared from Subway's sister
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: one time in the corner.
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: Shut the fuck up. Was it five?
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: Huh?
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: Was it five? Were you like eight?
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: I mean, I was, no, I would say I was
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: probably about five.
- 1:42:39Speaker 4: No, because he was so, he's a pedo, you know.
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, I see. I don't know if he ran
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: in the family or what. I mean, I had a
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: pretty small wiener at the time, but I was young,
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: you know. I had that four-inch round on me. They
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: discontinued it.
- 1:42:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:42:51Speaker 2: Five-dollar footlong?
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: Remember that bread thing? He used to have that four-inch round, bro.
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: They got rid of that.
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: Somebody's always, like, trying new things and getting rid of them. Oh, yeah.
- 1:43:00Speaker 4: Was that before the controversy with her brother?
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: That was, let me see, 2002. 2002?
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: Damn, bro. That was way before the controversy.
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: 2002 to 2006, somewhere in there.
- 1:43:17Speaker 4: That's like right when Jared first started being Jared.
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: But yeah, was it five? I wouldn't say all of that.
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: I don't remember much of it. It was in the
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: quarters late. It was indoors.
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: It was just something to do. Yeah, well, it was, yeah.
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: Was it toasted?
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: It was a crazy.
- 1:43:32Speaker 4: No.
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: It was toasted. Did you get a drink and chips
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: with it? Bro, that would have been crazy, bro. I
- 1:43:41Speaker 2: got a drink and chips with it. Some Miss Vickies.
- 1:43:47Speaker 5: That's a Subway hack. You got to buy a bag
- 1:43:49Speaker 5: of salt and vinegar Miss Vickies and put it on
- 1:43:51Speaker 5: the sandwich. That's the hack.
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: I never done that, man. Trying to think if I
- 1:43:55Speaker 2: got a good hack. I got nothing, man. I got nothing.
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: I can't believe you got blown by Jared's sister. That's insane.
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: Sorry to tell y'all that, too. That's awesome. That's crazy, dude.
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: I forget about it, and then I'm in New Orleans,
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: and I don't know how to say it. Oh, dude,
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: one time I went and saw....
- 1:44:13Speaker 2: Fly like paper, get high like paper. Oh, MIA?
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I went and saw her at... She blew you too?
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: No.
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: No, it would have probably been neat, but she... I
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: saw the guy from Step Brothers there at the concert.
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: John C. Reilly?
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: No, huh?
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: It was like 4 a.m. she finally went on.
- 1:44:32Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 1:44:33Speaker 3: Here?
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: House of Blues or some shoot? 4 a.m.
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: It was over on Warehouse District. No, in Frenchman.
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: Okay. Okay.
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: Trying to think of another good show. Oh, the first
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: show I ever went to was at Rendon Inn. I
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: don't know if you guys remember. It was an old
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: restaurant they used to have. And Marilyn Manson played there.
- 1:44:48Speaker 4: The 90s?
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: Yeah. Late 90s?
- 1:44:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: And we went to there, dude, and it was crazy.
- 1:44:53Speaker 2: The craziest New Orleans venue was like, I think it
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: was called The Warehouse. Yeah. River Road? All the dads
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: loved talking about The Warehouse.
- 1:45:00Speaker 5: They saw The Beatles and David Bowie and all this
- 1:45:02Speaker 5: crazy shit, but that place was dope.
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: Never heard of it.
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. My friend did a documentary on it.
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: It's old for us.
- 1:45:06Speaker 4: Oh, really?
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:45:07Speaker 4: Wow. I think.
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: What's his name played the Riders on the Stone?
- 1:45:11Speaker 2: Jim Morrison. I think he played his last show there,
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: they said.
- 1:45:14Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:45:14Speaker 2: That's pretty crazy.
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: My friend Jesse Williamson did a documentary called The Warehouse.
- 1:45:19Speaker 5: Yeah, they had a lot of artists go through there.
- 1:45:20Speaker 5: That was like the spot back in the day.
- 1:45:22Speaker 4: Where was that?
- 1:45:23Speaker 5: Teenager in the 70s? It was a little outside. By
- 1:45:27Speaker 5: River Road where Uptown becomes Jefferson.
- 1:45:29Speaker 2: Oh, okay. That's where I think it was. Is that right?
- 1:45:31Speaker 2: I think so. It might have been more into the
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: Uptown area. How's that Nick treating you? It's pretty good.
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: You like the flavor? They're hit and miss, bro. They're
- 1:45:41Speaker 4: hit and miss.
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: Sometimes you don't know if vapes, if you're buying them,
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: if they're getting them, if they're remaking them bitches.
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: In the back. I don't know if you'll.
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: Smell like a dude. It's just like the guy's breath
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: at the counter. You're like, this motherfucker just made it.
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: Australia was tough with the vapes. Oh, yeah.
- 1:45:58Speaker 4: The first time we went, no, five years ago when
- 1:46:01Speaker 4: we went, they only had 1% nicotine. That was kind
- 1:46:03Speaker 4: of a bitch.
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: Really?
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: Yeah, and then this last time, I need that five.
- 1:46:06Speaker 5: All the ones that we bought were all these crazy
- 1:46:08Speaker 5: flavors and we're like coughing up all this shit. I'm like, bro,
- 1:46:11Speaker 5: these vapes are not okay.
- 1:46:12Speaker 2: That's why I like these. Yeah. Reliable. This is super light.
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: I don't actually feel like out of commission or nothing.
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: Like too heavy. The early Escobars, bro, was too much.
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: I was doing those on road. You like to get sick, bro. Oh,
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: I was falling apart. I couldn't sleep, bro. I couldn't
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: look at my mother.
- 1:46:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: This is a warehouse on Chapatula.
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: So that's where it was. Um, But, yeah, that's my buddy.
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: Jesse made this documentary. It's so crazy you said that place. Yeah,
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: where did you guys go watch some type of music? Like,
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: was there someplace, a venue that you guys went to
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: when you were young? What was your first show you
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: went to? You did that way more than I did.
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: I mean, the first show I ever went to was
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: when I was nine. My parents bought me NSYNC tickets.
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: That was the first. It was, like, when I was
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: a kid.
- 1:46:49Speaker 2: Damn, you've changed. I've changed.
- 1:46:51Speaker 4: As far as, like.
- 1:46:52Speaker 2: My first one was Britney Spears.
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: Really?
- 1:46:54Speaker 2: Oh, my God. Look at that. I think she's a
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: Louisiana local. Yeah, I know.
- 1:46:59Speaker 4: I'm gonna say 100%, y'all changed. My parents thought they
- 1:47:02Speaker 4: snapped by getting me tickets to Britney. Me and my
- 1:47:06Speaker 4: dad went, it was weird. You and senior went to
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: Britney Spears?
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: Yeah, brother.
- 1:47:10Speaker 5: If you knew his dad, you'd be like, what the fuck?
- 1:47:12Speaker 2: I was like eight years old.
- 1:47:14Speaker 4: They thought they snapped.
- 1:47:14Speaker 2: You probably hated every second of that. Yeah, they thought
- 1:47:16Speaker 2: they snapped. And they did snap. They did.
- 1:47:19Speaker 5: I did go to shows when I was a teenager,
- 1:47:21Speaker 5: being in bands and stuff. I lived in Fat City.
- 1:47:23Speaker 5: So they had Cypress Hall right down the street from
- 1:47:26Speaker 5: the police station on Hesmer. And they had the Lions home.
- 1:47:29Speaker 5: They used to do shows at by the Burger King
- 1:47:31Speaker 5: on Division and Metairie.
- 1:47:33Speaker 4: They had a few.
- 1:47:33Speaker 5: New Orleans was good with the all-ages stuff. They had
- 1:47:36Speaker 5: places for teenagers to go. Me and my friends' bands
- 1:47:39Speaker 5: would put on shows and play. And 100 kids would
- 1:47:42Speaker 5: show up just to have something to do. And then
- 1:47:44Speaker 5: they started, after Katrina, a lot of those places closed down.
- 1:47:47Speaker 5: And then it became mostly bars and House of Blues.
- 1:47:51Speaker 5: But there was a lot of, I was very involved
- 1:47:53Speaker 5: in the music scene when I was younger down here.
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: The hot boy, yeah, when the hot boys were running around,
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: there was so much going on, bro. New Orleans has
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: always been a fun place, too.
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Yeah, I was more on the North Shore
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: around that time. That's when me and you didn't really speak. Yeah.
- 1:48:07Speaker 5: It was during all the high school. I mean, he
- 1:48:09Speaker 5: and I, we didn't hate each other or anything. We
- 1:48:10Speaker 5: were just growing up separately at that point.
- 1:48:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: They had a band from the North Shore, 8 Candles
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: or something?
- 1:48:18Speaker 2: They had one that got really popular. 12 Stones? 12 Stones, yeah.
- 1:48:21Speaker 2: That's it. That dude used.
- 1:48:22Speaker 4: To babysit Kyle or some shit, the singer or whatever.
- 1:48:25Speaker 4: Something like that, right?
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: Really?
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: You grew up next door to that guy from 12 Stones,
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: the singer?
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: Yeah, nice guy.
- 1:48:31Speaker 2: I went to high school. What's his name? Paul McCoy.
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: Paul McCoy, let's look him up.
- 1:48:35Speaker 5: Bro, I heard a story about that guy that, You know,
- 1:48:38Speaker 5: he's on that song, the Evanescence song.
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: Yeah. The wake me up, that song.
- 1:48:41Speaker 3: Wake me up.
- 1:48:42Speaker 5: I heard that they offered him a piece of the song, royalties,
- 1:48:45Speaker 5: or like just flat out 10 grand, and he took
- 1:48:47Speaker 5: the 10 grand.
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: Wow. 60 grand? Still, that song's made way more than
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: 60 grand.
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: But he bought a Lexus, bro.
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: He bought a Lexus. That's the thing, bro. He bought
- 1:48:59Speaker 2: a PT Cruiser.
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: Dude, my boy Gabe Hall. See if you can look
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: up Gabe Hall Cemetery on YouTube. is Gabe Hall's Cemetery Rapper.
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: I don't know if that's true. He's still rapping now,
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: or is this some old stuff? It's some old shit, bro.
- 1:49:16Speaker 2: Cemetery Rapper. Oh, dude, you're going to have to go
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: deep for this.
- 1:49:21Speaker 4: Did you ever chill in the cemeteries being from Louisiana,
- 1:49:24Speaker 4: or no?
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: No. Is that more of like a New Orleans thing?
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: I think it is, bro.
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: Sometime at Halloween, people would go do stuff over there.
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: In our town, people would dig one up every now
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: and then. Really? Yeah, this is him right here, bro.
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: My boy Curly Q. He used to make these videos, bro.
- 1:49:39Speaker 2: Oh, let's go. This is the real shit. You love this.
- 1:49:46Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:49:51Speaker 2: What?
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: This is my doll right here, bro. This is the
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: kind of shit that makes me want to fucking late.
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: Lay on my back with no shirt.
- 1:49:58Speaker 2: On, bro. Oh, let's go. With the misfit shirt. Wow.
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: He just sat on that mausoleum like nobody's business.
- 1:50:22Speaker 2: He's sitting on somebody's chest, bro.
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: Dude.
- 1:50:24Speaker 2: I want his confidence. You know what I'm saying? Bro, he...
- 1:50:27Speaker 2: It's inspiring. The arm movements. Fucking right.
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: Here comes the boy with the fucking dough.
- 1:50:43Speaker 2: Oh, he going crazy. What the fuck? Where is this?
- 1:50:48Speaker 2: Do you know? He all on people's graves, bro. He
- 1:50:50Speaker 2: going crazy. That's north of Louisiana, bro.
- 1:50:56Speaker 4: How do you know this dude? Why are Louisiana people
- 1:50:57Speaker 4: so not self-aware?
- 1:50:59Speaker 2: That dog got me for that.
- 1:51:00Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. I wish I had his confidence.
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: Oh, me too, bro. Look how he did. Pull up
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: the second one. He's got another one where he's on
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: the front porch. It should be right next to it.
- 1:51:06Speaker 2: Look at him dab, bro. This is hard.
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: Yeah, he fucking goes hard with it. Right there next
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: to a game hall.
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: How do you know the dude? Grew up with him, man. Oh,
- 1:51:13Speaker 2: no shit. So you knew this dude?
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:51:15Speaker 2: He had the trap house. Fucking right. Let's go, bro.
- 1:51:28Speaker 2: Every white person I know in Louisiana smokes cigarettes. 100%, bro.
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: They'll smoke them through their nose, bro. If their mouth
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: is missing. This is part of the culture, bro. They
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: don't give a fuck, bro. If your mouth missing, people
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: fucking smoke them through their.
- 1:51:39Speaker 2: Nose, bro. Yeah.
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: But, dude, the best is his girlfriend's filming this and
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: she keeps stepping on briars in the grass and yelling
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: at him.
- 1:51:47Speaker 2: Nuh-uh.
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: Stepping on what? Like little briars that are in the grass,
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: little sticks.
- 1:51:50Speaker 2: Little sticklers or whatever.
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: Anyway, shout out to my boy Gay, man.
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: Shout out to you.
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: I never thought about that, but it's crazy to see
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: the things that people do to put their creativity out there.
- 1:51:58Speaker 2: I love it.
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: Everybody's got something, man. That's some Louisiana shit, bro. You're
- 1:52:03Speaker 4: not going to see that in any other state.
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: That's some Louisiana shit. You ain't. He's the best, man. Yeah,
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: it's a different kind of swag right there, bro. Yeah,
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: Gabe's a G. Was there anything else in the news
- 1:52:13Speaker 2: we wanted to look at? I can't remember if anything
- 1:52:15Speaker 2: else happened.
- 1:52:16Speaker 4: Have you ever seen the video of them testing the
- 1:52:18Speaker 4: babes in China?
- 1:52:20Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, but them China men, bro,
- 1:52:25Speaker 2: they got a different type of lungs, bro.
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Ooh.
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah. Good thing I still smoke. Somebody got to
- 1:52:34Speaker 2: do it. I'm glad I still smoke Juul pods. Fuck.
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: That's an L4 factory. I'd be honored to share their
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: fucking DNA, brother. I don't care. They hard working, bro. Yeah.
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: Ooh, they hitting them a little too hard, though.
- 1:52:46Speaker 2: That dude. That guy's hooked. This little dude breastfeeding, bro. Bro.
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: You're like a damn hummingbird.
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: Why is he exposed on it? Like, this is something bad.
- 1:52:55Speaker 4: Because he can't be doing that shit, bro.
- 1:52:58Speaker 2: Bro, what are you talking about, man?
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: This is fucking breastfeeding in Laplace, homie.
- 1:53:04Speaker 2: Yeah. Ain't nothing, bro.
- 1:53:06Speaker 4: Yeah, bro.
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: Suicide Boys, man. I'm so excited, bro. I'm so excited
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: just to see. And I think you guys are just
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: such a place of inspiration for people. you know, even
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: just talking with you guys today to see you create
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: your own world, you know, and that it doesn't have
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: to be something that mainstream accepts or even sometimes even sees,
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: whether they do see it or not, you know, but
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: they don't claim to. It's the same thing with podcasts
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: and kind of like, they rarely ever reference podcasts. It's like,
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: but that's because they're not involved in it. It's not
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: their shit and that's okay. But you guys just have
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: such a loyal fan base. What are your fans like,
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: do you think, man? Because That's one of the things
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: that's so intriguing about you guys to me is y'all's
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: fans are, it's just different, man.
- 1:53:49Speaker 4: We've actually, we've developed relationships with some of our biggest
- 1:53:53Speaker 4: ones and actually brought them in the fold to like
- 1:53:56Speaker 4: help us out with certain stuff. I mean, dude, when
- 1:54:02Speaker 4: they tell you, when they're like, dude, you saved my life.
- 1:54:05Speaker 2: You did this, you did that. I mean. It's hard
- 1:54:07Speaker 2: to hear. A hundred percent. It's hard to process.
- 1:54:10Speaker 4: Yeah, it wasn't my intention. But at the same time,
- 1:54:15Speaker 4: and this might be more on like a spiritual recovery tip,
- 1:54:19Speaker 4: ever since getting sober, I feel like I have this
- 1:54:24Speaker 4: responsibility to let these people know that have seen us
- 1:54:31Speaker 4: at our worst, know that, because I never thought there
- 1:54:35Speaker 4: was a way out.
- 1:54:36Speaker 2: I really didn't.
- 1:54:37Speaker 4: I was like, I'm fucked, this is it. This is
- 1:54:40Speaker 4: just what it is. But to let them know that
- 1:54:43Speaker 4: there is a way out. Yeah, there's hope. Don't ever
- 1:54:47Speaker 4: give up. If me and him can do it, bro,
- 1:54:49Speaker 4: we can get drugs delivered on speed dial in the mailbox, bro.
- 1:54:52Speaker 4: If me and him can do it, there's hope for
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: them too. And we used to, when we could, after
- 1:55:00Speaker 4: every show, we would take time out and meet with
- 1:55:03Speaker 4: all the fans afterwards.
- 1:55:05Speaker 2: We never liked charging them.
- 1:55:07Speaker 4: For meet and greets and stuff like that like oh
- 1:55:09Speaker 4: someone got more money than this person so they get
- 1:55:11Speaker 4: to meet us i know we didn't really like that
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: but now unfortunately it's it's it's gotten too.
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: Big to where we we can't do that sometimes it's
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: true the venues won't let you stay those are things
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: that happen we try to meet in the lobby yeah shows.
- 1:55:23Speaker 5: And not only how do you look at it we've
- 1:55:25Speaker 5: been doing this for a long time and when we're
- 1:55:27Speaker 5: on tour bro it's not like it's it's work dude
- 1:55:30Speaker 5: it's hard it's it's you got to be on point
- 1:55:33Speaker 5: every night, you know, any little thing you can do.
- 1:55:35Speaker 5: If you smoke a blunt afterwards, it could fuck up
- 1:55:36Speaker 5: your throat. Like there's a lot of stuff that you
- 1:55:38Speaker 5: got to keep in mind. And sometimes dude, you know,
- 1:55:42Speaker 5: not every show is good and not every day on
- 1:55:44Speaker 5: tour is fun. There's times where like we might be
- 1:55:47Speaker 5: going through it and we have to take some time
- 1:55:49Speaker 5: for ourselves and sorry. Like, I know it sucks that
- 1:55:52Speaker 5: we can't meet you this particular night, but you know,
- 1:55:54Speaker 5: I need to like kind of decompress a little bit.
- 1:55:57Speaker 2: So yeah.
- 1:55:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: You got to make sure the show is good for
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: the next night. I mean, that's the most important thing.
- 1:56:01Speaker 2: It's true. Touring is hard.
- 1:56:02Speaker 4: It's hectic.
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. And, yeah, people don't realize you want to
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: be as good as you can be for the show
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: you just did, you know.
- 1:56:10Speaker 2: But, no, we love and care about them.
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: And even if some of them are still using you,
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: there's no.
- 1:56:17Speaker 4: No, but not at all.
- 1:56:18Speaker 2: Because you know why? We get it. Right. I get it, bro. Like,
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: I get it, dog.
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: And a lot of people can party and they can
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: do it. I tell them that.
- 1:56:27Speaker 4: Whenever I talk to everybody at the end of the night,
- 1:56:30Speaker 4: I feel like it's important to say that.
- 1:56:32Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? If none of this applies
- 1:56:34Speaker 2: to you, keep doing what you're doing. Fuck, if you
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: can have a good time and do it. Right. My
- 1:56:39Speaker 2: hat's off to you, bro. Yeah, you win.
- 1:56:41Speaker 4: Yeah, you got it, dog.
- 1:56:44Speaker 2: You got it. But I don't know.
- 1:56:48Speaker 4: That speech that started at the end, real quick, that
- 1:56:52Speaker 4: started for me. We just got back to doing shows.
- 1:56:56Speaker 4: We were at Lollapalooza right after COVID. I was feeling
- 1:57:01Speaker 4: self-pity and feeling bad for myself and all this.
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: So I was.
- 1:57:06Speaker 4: Given this sappy, like, poor pity me at the end
- 1:57:11Speaker 4: of the show that we did at Lollapalooza, but it
- 1:57:13Speaker 4: just somehow it turned into something else. Personal speech. Yeah,
- 1:57:18Speaker 4: into what it is.
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:57:20Speaker 5: I mean, dude, one of the guys that works for us,
- 1:57:22Speaker 5: he like helps us run our social media accounts and
- 1:57:24Speaker 5: he works with us on tour doing merch. You know,
- 1:57:27Speaker 5: we met this kid as a fan. That's our boy Six.
- 1:57:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:57:30Speaker 5: We met him as a fan because he created the
- 1:57:32Speaker 5: at G59 Records Twitter. And this was so early that
- 1:57:35Speaker 5: Scott and I hadn't even gotten around to making our
- 1:57:37Speaker 5: own fucking Twitter yet.
- 1:57:38Speaker 2: We had fans.
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:57:39Speaker 5: We had like a few thousand fans, whatever. But he
- 1:57:42Speaker 5: was super in tuned with underground music and he knew
- 1:57:45Speaker 5: about us and loved us. And we messaged him being like, yo,
- 1:57:47Speaker 5: can we have that account?
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: Like, yeah.
- 1:57:49Speaker 5: You know, it's our name. He's like, yeah, I was
- 1:57:52Speaker 5: just making it so nobody else would.
- 1:57:53Speaker 2: You can have it.
- 1:57:53Speaker 5: And we're like, okay, cool. And then a few months later,
- 1:57:56Speaker 5: we're actually going to do a little Texas tour doing Houston, Dallas,
- 1:57:59Speaker 5: a few shows.
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: And he's there?
- 1:58:01Speaker 5: And he's in Dallas. And he was like, we're like, dude,
- 1:58:02Speaker 5: come meet up with us, whatever. And he also could
- 1:58:05Speaker 5: get us drugs, get us some Percocets, some Xanax, some weed, whatever.
- 1:58:08Speaker 5: And we met him, and we realized we liked this kid.
- 1:58:10Speaker 5: And we're like, you know what? You took the initiative,
- 1:58:12Speaker 5: that's yours. And that's how he became the guy who
- 1:58:15Speaker 5: runs our social media, is through that. And that was
- 1:58:19Speaker 5: back in 2014, 2015. And to answer your question, that
- 1:58:22Speaker 5: was a fan who is now part of our team.
- 1:58:25Speaker 2: I lived with him for two years. He's like a
- 1:58:26Speaker 2: family member. Oh, damn.
- 1:58:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:58:28Speaker 4: Yeah, man.
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: Well, that's how I met Nick, one of our early producers.
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: He emailed and just said, hey, man, I like the
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: podcast and and I think I can help. You know,
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: that's how there's this kid named Aiden. He showed up
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: at a show in Buffalo.
- 1:58:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: And shook my hand in the parking lot.
- 1:58:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: And he's like, hey, I can be your photographer tonight.
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: And I was like, all right, photographer.
- 1:58:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: Come on in, bro. So fast forward, the show starts.
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: I'm out there an hour later. I see this dude
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: just walking up by the side of the stage, bro,
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: with his cell phone.
- 1:59:00Speaker 4: Let's go.
- 1:59:01Speaker 2: What the fuck, dude?
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: So the whole time, bro, he got fucking just, he's
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: like laying on his back and shit on the floor.
- 1:59:08Speaker 2: Just unbelievable, dude. I respect the initiative. Oh, he finessed
- 1:59:12Speaker 2: me so much, man.
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: But fast forward two years later, he's at the show
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: with his family. He's got cameras now and he's a
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: real photographer.
- 1:59:19Speaker 2: No shit.
- 1:59:20Speaker 1: And so it's just like. Hey, at least he was
- 1:59:23Speaker 1: fucking grinding with what he had. A hundred percent, Brian.
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: He just kind of caught you at the right time.
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: I was walking in, coming up the little tour bus
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: and it was just like, you know. hey, what's up, man?
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: I can be your photographer. And you kind of respect,
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: you know, sometimes things got to catch you in the
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: right moment. But yeah, somebody that can see your Twitter
- 1:59:39Speaker 1: and see that you have a capability before you can
- 1:59:41Speaker 1: even see it sometimes.
- 1:59:43Speaker 2: It's crazy, man. The equipment doesn't give you drive or talent. Dude,
- 1:59:47Speaker 2: all of our videos were iPhone.
- 1:59:49Speaker 4: Shot with an iPhone and I just edited it on
- 1:59:50Speaker 4: Final Cut. He was using GarageBand to make the beats,
- 1:59:53Speaker 4: you know.
- 1:59:53Speaker 2: A free program that comes with Mac.
- 1:59:56Speaker 5: I downloaded Photoshop. I illegally pirated Photoshop and cracked it.
- 2:00:01Speaker 5: And the only languages available for Photoshop were Spanish and Hebrew.
- 2:00:06Speaker 5: And I chose Spanish because I took Spanish in high school.
- 2:00:09Speaker 5: So I learned Photoshop all in Spanish, just like figuring
- 2:00:13Speaker 5: it the fuck out. So I didn't shell out all
- 2:00:15Speaker 5: this money. I learned it myself because if you have
- 2:00:17Speaker 5: the drive, you have the talent, the equipment does not matter.
- 2:00:20Speaker 4: We got gold and platinum records that were done on
- 2:00:24Speaker 4: that free platform that comes when you buy a Mac.
- 2:00:27Speaker 4: That's the whole reason I bought it was because it
- 2:00:28Speaker 4: was free.
- 2:00:29Speaker 5: Two of our biggest songs are royalty-free samples. Anybody has
- 2:00:33Speaker 5: access to it.
- 2:00:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It really is, man.
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: It's inspiring, dude. I feel so lucky to have gotten
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: to do this today, man.
- 2:00:40Speaker 2: Same, dude.
- 2:00:41Speaker 4: I'm glad that we met. I remember when you showed
- 2:00:44Speaker 4: up at the 12-step meeting. Oh, yeah, it was cool, man.
- 2:00:50Speaker 4: And when you showed up, I know how that is.
- 2:00:54Speaker 4: You're stoked. I didn't want to go up to you,
- 2:00:56Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying? Because I know what it's
- 2:00:58Speaker 4: like to be in a meeting and it's kind of sacred.
- 2:01:01Speaker 2: I saw him.
- 2:01:01Speaker 1: I was like, this guy's not doing well. We lucky
- 2:01:07Speaker 1: to have this.
- 2:01:10Speaker 4: So I, we didn't talk that night. And then when
- 2:01:13Speaker 4: I left, I sent them a message on Instagram.
- 2:01:15Speaker 2: And he called me. He's like, bro, you know, he's
- 2:01:16Speaker 2: in my fucking meeting. He was stoked. I was stoked
- 2:01:18Speaker 2: too that he met you. Yeah. That's cool, man.
- 2:01:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:01:20Speaker 2: I think I met Cheddar first. Did you?
- 2:01:23Speaker 1: Yeah. I think I did. I don't remember how, but, um,
- 2:01:27Speaker 1: but he's just been such a great guy to get
- 2:01:29Speaker 1: to know, man. And yeah, dude, it's inspiring, man. I'm glad,
- 2:01:32Speaker 1: you know, you keep people alive. And I know you have,
- 2:01:33Speaker 1: you know, guys that you support in those rooms.
- 2:01:35Speaker 2: It ain't me, bro. I wish I could take the credit. Yeah.
- 2:01:39Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 2:01:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:01:42Speaker 2: I'm glad we got a higher power that's trying to help. Yeah.
- 2:01:44Speaker 2: That's helping us help ourselves. Yeah.
- 2:01:48Speaker 1: From flooring to ceiling, bro. From flooring to who knows
- 2:01:52Speaker 1: what heights, man. Thank you guys so much just for
- 2:01:54Speaker 1: the inspiration, man. I think to so many young artists
- 2:01:56Speaker 1: and people that if you're sitting somewhere thinking, can I
- 2:01:58Speaker 1: do this or How do I do this?
- 2:02:00Speaker 2: I mean, this, you know, it's unreal. Just do it.
- 2:02:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:02:05Speaker 5: That's literally it. Just fucking do it. That's the advice
- 2:02:09Speaker 5: I always give is, you know, how did you, what
- 2:02:11Speaker 5: did you do to get here? Whatever persistence, consistency. fucking drive, dude,
- 2:02:16Speaker 5: and just taking that first step is the biggest step.
- 2:02:19Speaker 2: Because you know what?
- 2:02:20Speaker 5: You may think you want to be a fucking rapper
- 2:02:22Speaker 5: or whatever, but you might actually go to do it
- 2:02:24Speaker 5: and realize, I don't want to do this.
- 2:02:25Speaker 4: This sucks.
- 2:02:26Speaker 2: And you're not going to know unless you take that
- 2:02:28Speaker 2: first step. Right.
- 2:02:28Speaker 1: And then I'll lead you to the next thing.
- 2:02:30Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 2:02:31Speaker 1: You might miss the next thing because you don't go
- 2:02:33Speaker 1: to the first thing.
- 2:02:34Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 2:02:35Speaker 5: And it's all timing. It's all chess game. Just don't
- 2:02:38Speaker 5: overthink it. Just do the damn thing and everything will
- 2:02:40Speaker 5: start to fall in place at some point if it's
- 2:02:41Speaker 5: supposed to.
- 2:02:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:02:43Speaker 2: The new album? New World Depression, June 14th, baby. Drag
- 2:02:48Speaker 2: them to the river. I'm excited. Put your body in,
- 2:02:50Speaker 2: check y'all.
- 2:02:52Speaker 4: Fuck yeah.
- 2:02:53Speaker 1: What was that song?
- 2:02:53Speaker 2: I can't.
- 2:02:54Speaker 1: Put your rope around the neck. He's a bad.
- 2:02:57Speaker 2: Ass yellow boy. Oh, you want some.
- 2:03:01Speaker 4: Wow man Who UNLV I'm from that UNLV I couldn't
- 2:03:05Speaker 4: think of it Where were.

- 2:03:21Speaker 1: so much, man. Best of luck on tour. And shout
- 2:03:24Speaker 1: out Tyrell Shaw for this beautiful art, man, for letting
- 2:03:26Speaker 1: us sit in the back here. That might be Louis Armstrong, man.
- 2:03:29Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 2:03:29Speaker 2: It's a saxophone, so it might not be, but it's
- 2:03:31Speaker 2: a jazz player. Either way. Either way.
- 2:03:33Speaker 1: He's got a studio right over here on, I think
- 2:03:35Speaker 1: this is Child Patula?
- 2:03:37Speaker 2: Carondelet?
- 2:03:38Speaker 1: On Carondelet, yeah. So here we are. Suicide Boys.
- 2:03:41Speaker 2: Thanks. Oh, yeah. Gang.
- 2:03:45Speaker 3: Now I'm just floating on the breeze and I feel
- 2:03:48Speaker 3: I'm falling like these leaves. I must be cornerstone. Oh,
- 2:03:57Speaker 3: but when I reach that ground, I'll share this peace
- 2:04:00Speaker 3: of mind I found.
- 2:04:01Speaker 2: I can feel it in my bones.
- 2:04:06Speaker 4: But it's gonna take.
