- 0:00Speaker 1: Why From Israel is a special edition of Sharing.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Hello and welcome to my final show this week from Israel,
- 0:12Speaker 2: and first tonight to a world exclusive. Israeli Prime Minister
- 0:16Speaker 2: Benjamin Netanyahu has spoken exclusively to me about the war
- 0:21Speaker 2: he's fighting, the threat of Iran to Western civilization, and
- 0:26Speaker 2: his determination for the Saudi Arabia normalization deal to go ahead.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I was privileged to spend more than forty five minutes
- 0:34Speaker 2: with NETANYAHUO yesterday afternoon in his Prime Ministerial offices in Jerusalem.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Our meeting was held just a few hours before the
- 0:44Speaker 2: Prime Minister took a call with Joe Biden to discuss
- 0:48Speaker 2: the retaliation strike on Iran after it filed two hundred
- 0:52Speaker 2: missiles on Israel last week. Now, there were only three
- 0:56Speaker 2: of us in the room, the Prime Minister, his chief
- 0:59Speaker 2: of staff and me.
- 1:01Speaker 3: It was a.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Confidential conversation and an off the record briefing about the
- 1:05Speaker 2: war and where it goes from here. But the Prime
- 1:09Speaker 2: Minister said that I can share with you three things
- 1:14Speaker 2: that he spoke about Nettna, who spoke strongly about the
- 1:17Speaker 2: threat of Iran. He said, the threat of Iran is
- 1:20Speaker 2: not only to Israel's survival but to the Middle East
- 1:25Speaker 2: and to Western civilization. He said that Israel is fighting
- 1:29Speaker 2: the broader war against terrorists who want to take us
- 1:33Speaker 2: all back to the dark ages, and with the war raging,
- 1:38Speaker 2: he spoke about the prospect.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Of peace he still hopes.
- 1:42Speaker 2: He said that the deal to normalize relations with Saudi
- 1:45Speaker 2: Arabia will go ahead.
- 1:48Speaker 3: This deal was close to being.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Finalized in late twenty twenty three, and it's a key
- 1:53Speaker 2: reason why Iran, through its proxies Hamas and Hesbela, attacked.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Israel on October seven.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Nettiyah who told me he was not just hopeful, but
- 2:03Speaker 2: determined the Saudi deal would go ahead. The rest of
- 2:08Speaker 2: the meeting was confidential, but I can tell you some
- 2:12Speaker 2: of what I shared with Netanyahu during our meeting. I
- 2:16Speaker 2: told him how domestic politics was influencing foreign policy in Australia.
- 2:22Speaker 2: I explained how Anthony Albanesi and Penny Wong's desperate desire
- 2:27Speaker 2: to appease Muslim voters in Sydney's marginal seats in the
- 2:31Speaker 2: West is behind many of the government's hostile policies towards Israel.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I spoke to him of the anger that many Australian
- 2:40Speaker 2: Jews feel towards the Albanesi government over its betrayal of
- 2:44Speaker 2: Israel at its time of need. I explained to Netanyaho
- 2:49Speaker 2: how the Albanesi government had fast tracked visas for nearly
- 2:53Speaker 2: three thousand Gazans without adequate security checks, and I said
- 2:58Speaker 2: this was a big political issue on the front page
- 3:00Speaker 2: of the papers. I also spoke to him about the
- 3:03Speaker 2: problem of anti Semitism that we're facing in Australia, and
- 3:07Speaker 2: I was only half joking when I told him that
- 3:11Speaker 2: I would probably be safer wearing my mug and David
- 3:13Speaker 2: my Star of David necklace on the border with Lebanon
- 3:17Speaker 2: than in parts of Sydney where jew hatred is open
- 3:22Speaker 2: and unabated. I also told him how Peter Dutton, the
- 3:25Speaker 2: opposition leader, had followed in the footsteps of former Australian
- 3:29Speaker 2: leaders in standing firm with Israel. Unlike every Israeli I've
- 3:36Speaker 2: met on this assignment. While Netanyahu is a strong wartime leader,
- 3:42Speaker 2: he is a wartime leader who is desperate for peace.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Israel does not want or desire war, but on October
- 3:49Speaker 2: seventh it was brutally thrust upon it by Hamas and
- 3:55Speaker 2: now by every terror group which wants to destroy it now.
- 3:59Speaker 2: For me personally and certainly as a journalist, this.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Was the meeting of a lifetime.
- 4:06Speaker 2: It was extraordinary to be granted an in depth meeting
- 4:11Speaker 2: with the wartime leader when he's leading his nation.
- 4:15Speaker 3: In major battles.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Imagine having the chance to sit down with Winston Churchill
- 4:21Speaker 2: during his fight against the Nazis.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Well, that's what this meeting was like.
- 4:26Speaker 2: The Prime Minister was strong and tough and very clear
- 4:30Speaker 2: in his vision, but also warm, engaging, open and interested.
- 4:35Speaker 2: He asked questions about Australia, about my family, even who
- 4:39Speaker 2: was looking after my children while I was in Israel.
- 4:43Speaker 2: It's highly unusual for a journalist to be invited into
- 4:46Speaker 2: the very heart of his prime ministerial operations and to
- 4:50Speaker 2: be given so much time.
- 4:52Speaker 3: I can tell you that the criticism.
- 4:55Speaker 2: From Washington that Netanyahu doesn't have a plan or that
- 4:58Speaker 2: he doesn't know what he's doing in this war is
- 5:01Speaker 2: utterly wrong. After speaking with him at length, he does
- 5:06Speaker 2: have a clear strategy for the war, and.
- 5:08Speaker 3: He outlined it.
- 5:09Speaker 2: It's obvious his motive is the survival of the Jewish state,
- 5:15Speaker 2: but he's also fighting the terrorists and Iran to protect
- 5:18Speaker 2: the world from dark forces and Netinya, who's success in
- 5:23Speaker 2: not just weakening but smashing Iran's main proxy groups has
- 5:28Speaker 2: been astonishing. As I've said before, incredible military feats. The
- 5:33Speaker 2: pager and the walkie talkie attacks were the most sophisticated
- 5:37Speaker 2: and targeted strikes of our time. Nettnaho also ended Hassan
- 5:43Speaker 2: Nasralla's thirty two year reign by ordering his execution in
- 5:47Speaker 2: a Bea route bunker. At the moment he was executed, Netina,
- 5:51Speaker 2: who was speaking at the United Nations, It's possible the
- 5:56Speaker 2: last thing the terror leader saw on this earth was
- 6:00Speaker 2: his arch enemy speaking. And all that remains of Hamas
- 6:04Speaker 2: is its leader Yaya Sinhwa, who is too scared to
- 6:07Speaker 2: emerge after watching virtually every other senior terror figure be
- 6:12Speaker 2: executed in cunning moves by Israel.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Natiya, who has taken on.
- 6:18Speaker 2: The terrorists all the while facing incredible international pressure from
- 6:24Speaker 2: weak woke leaders. As you know, I often speak about
- 6:29Speaker 2: the weak international leadership that demands a cease fire of
- 6:33Speaker 2: Israel even though there are still one hundred and one hostages,
- 6:37Speaker 2: even when hundreds of rockets are being fired at Israel,
- 6:40Speaker 2: and even when terrorists remain on the doorstep. If Natiya
- 6:45Speaker 2: who would have listened to the international community, including US
- 6:49Speaker 2: President Joe Biden, and how to cease fire, both Hermas
- 6:53Speaker 2: and Hezbla would still pose a major threat to Israel.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Instead, they're all but destroyed.
- 7:02Speaker 2: And speaking of Biden, just a few hours after my
- 7:05Speaker 2: meeting with Netanyahu, he and the US President spoke on
- 7:08Speaker 2: the phone for an hour. Kamala Harris joined the call.
- 7:13Speaker 2: You can see here a photograph of Nettunjahoo surrounded by
- 7:17Speaker 2: his advisers during that call.
- 7:19Speaker 3: It was their first call in nearly fifty days, and.
- 7:23Speaker 2: They discussed the response to Iran's ballistic missile attack last week.
- 7:29Speaker 2: The White House described the call as direct and productive
- 7:32Speaker 2: and said that Biden had affirmed his ironclad commitment to
- 7:36Speaker 2: Israel's security and rite to defend itself. Nettina Who's office
- 7:40Speaker 2: said the call was conducted in a positive spirit. The
- 7:45Speaker 2: upcoming US election will undoubtedly influence Biden's position on how
- 7:51Speaker 2: Israel should respond to Iran. For Nettayaho, his wartime leadership
- 7:57Speaker 2: has seen a resurgence in his support in Israel. According
- 8:01Speaker 2: to the polls, his popularity is now on the rise
- 8:05Speaker 2: after it sank in the immediate aftermath of October seven,
- 8:09Speaker 2: Poland conducted by direct polls shows.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Nettiya, who now leads his two closest.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Rivals, Betty Gance and opposition leader Lapid by thirty points.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Colonel Richard camp who's been living in Israel for the
- 8:24Speaker 2: past year, he explained this on My show last night,
- 8:28Speaker 2: as did veteran of the Prime Minister's Office, Danny Seaman.
- 8:32Speaker 4: He's an extremely strong leader. He's been criticized and vilified
- 8:37Speaker 4: around the world by other leaders, including President Biden, but
- 8:41Speaker 4: everything he's done has shown to be right and proved
- 8:43Speaker 4: to be right.
- 8:44Speaker 5: He's also a leader in the eyes of Israelis of
- 8:46Speaker 5: international standing, once in a generation leader.
- 8:52Speaker 2: It's an assessment Australia's Foreign Minister Former Foreign Minister Alexander
- 8:57Speaker 2: Downer has also made. He wrote that Netto who has
- 9:00Speaker 2: been a hate figure for the center left and fire left.
- 9:03Speaker 2: He writes, of course he has domestic scandals and issues
- 9:06Speaker 2: to deal with, but his political skill and courage over
- 9:09Speaker 2: the past year make him.
- 9:10Speaker 3: A standout leader.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Downa says, as he watched his speech to the UN
- 9:15Speaker 2: General Assembly, I thought he stood head and shoulders above
- 9:18Speaker 2: the hesitant drivel and pole driven cliches of Western ministers
- 9:23Speaker 2: and leaders, and Alexander Downa writes that if Nettayaho had
- 9:28Speaker 2: listened to the demands of Biden and kir Starmer, as
- 9:32Speaker 2: well as the bleeting Australian government, Hermas.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Would still be operating, as would Hesbla. Downa says, what is.
- 9:39Speaker 2: So admirable about Netanyahu is that he defied Biden and
- 9:43Speaker 2: European leaders and did what he thought was in the
- 9:46Speaker 2: best interest of his country security, not Western politics.
- 9:53Speaker 3: And that was the strength I saw in person when
- 9:57Speaker 3: I met Nettiyaho yesterday.
- 10:00Speaker 2: You can see in the photograph he has a large
- 10:03Speaker 2: map of Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Eastern Europe
- 10:07Speaker 2: in his office. It's a constant reminder of just how
- 10:11Speaker 2: tiny the.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Jewish state is.
- 10:15Speaker 2: We've seen that Nettiya, who is not going to ask
- 10:17Speaker 2: permission from weakned international leaders to defend his citizens and
- 10:22Speaker 2: inshore Israel's survival. The future of this single Jewish homeland
- 10:29Speaker 2: in the world now rests squarely on his shoulders. And
- 10:34Speaker 2: it's why any day now we're expecting Israel to take
- 10:38Speaker 2: on Iran and not let the evil Aotolas live out
- 10:42Speaker 2: their dream to destroy Israel, and not just Israel, but
- 10:47Speaker 2: all of us in the West. Now, this next story
- 10:54Speaker 2: is incredible. A young woman is about to tell you
- 10:58Speaker 2: what it was like after she was taken hostage in Gaza.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Elana Gritzuski was kidnapped by her mass from Kibbutz near
- 11:07Speaker 2: Us on October seventh, along with her boyfriend Matan, who
- 11:11Speaker 2: sadly is.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Still being held hostage.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Elana details the brutality of her mass and how she
- 11:19Speaker 2: was deliberately starved, losing eleven kilograms.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Now a warning, this is confronting.
- 11:40Speaker 6: So I picked my dog and I I ran to
- 11:42Speaker 6: the safe room that is our bethroom.
- 11:46Speaker 7: I wake up in Madame.
- 11:50Speaker 6: I wake up a showered to him and wake up.
- 11:53Speaker 3: There is a lot of alarms.
- 11:54Speaker 6: There is no regular talk to your mom and your
- 11:57Speaker 6: sister because also more fucking there is alarms. A few
- 12:04Speaker 6: minutes later, we start listening shootings, a many voices in Arabic,
- 12:14Speaker 6: and I still saw that they in the group of
- 12:18Speaker 6: the keyboods. They tell that they are our house, our house,
- 12:21Speaker 6: our house. So I was in the seat holding the
- 12:24Speaker 6: dog so he makes no noises, and Madame was holding
- 12:30Speaker 6: the door so they can open it. But they started shooting.
- 12:36Speaker 6: So they opened the door, but Mattan threw it all
- 12:40Speaker 6: the things that he found close again after he showed
- 12:47Speaker 6: me open the window, see there is nothing and jump,
- 12:50Speaker 6: I go after you slowly, slowly, hey, I hear the
- 12:55Speaker 6: terrorists someone they in charge of him pulled me from
- 13:00Speaker 6: the from the hair again and take me to the motorcycle.
- 13:05Speaker 6: Terrorists in front of me, other terrorists behind me. They
- 13:10Speaker 6: he mean so hard that they broke.
- 13:12Speaker 7: My hips.
- 13:17Speaker 6: And they put me like a blank in the nylon's
- 13:21Speaker 6: lank on the heads like and see nothing. All the
- 13:27Speaker 6: way they kicked me, they touched me. In that moment,
- 13:30Speaker 6: I didn't know what is going to happen to me,
- 13:34Speaker 6: that I'm going to be raped, IM gonna be kidnapped
- 13:38Speaker 6: in my gonna be killing.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Miriam.
- 13:41Speaker 2: How did you as a mother coy knowing that your
- 13:44Speaker 2: daughter was in Gaza.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I'm very emotional. I'm a person of it.
- 13:53Speaker 8: So since the first since the day one, what my
- 13:57Speaker 8: friends start.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Praying and they in brain chains.
- 14:03Speaker 8: So I said, the only thing I can do is
- 14:07Speaker 8: pray for her.
- 14:09Speaker 7: Well, do you remember waking up? After that?
- 14:12Speaker 6: They wake me up with the with the perfumed and
- 14:18Speaker 6: the nose, kick me on the face and throw me
- 14:21Speaker 6: water and they put me from the her again so
- 14:24Speaker 6: I can wake up from the floor. And they threw
- 14:28Speaker 6: me the skirt and a hijab and they took me
- 14:33Speaker 6: in the in a car with a lot of terrorists
- 14:37Speaker 6: and make me away from the next stop. We through
- 14:43Speaker 6: to the street of Helene. They told me, welcome to Alsa,
- 14:47Speaker 6: to your new life.
- 14:49Speaker 1: We stay at nine Mothers. Please.
- 14:51Speaker 8: She has a very very big, huge a tree and
- 14:55Speaker 8: I all the tree that day and they said, learn,
- 14:57Speaker 8: I'm hugging you, feel me, okay, feel me, and with you,
- 15:03Speaker 8: nothing is going to happen.
- 15:07Speaker 7: So after that you had your first night in Gaza.
- 15:10Speaker 6: Yeah, in the department when I arrived, that's one that
- 15:14Speaker 6: they stay were in me. That told me that they
- 15:21Speaker 6: are beautiful, that I ain't going to stay in USA
- 15:23Speaker 6: also in this deal, and I am not going to
- 15:26Speaker 6: go out that he and me, I am going to marry
- 15:29Speaker 6: it and be chilled and bring children.
- 15:32Speaker 2: So they told you you were going to get married
- 15:35Speaker 2: and have children.
- 15:36Speaker 7: So that's that's threatening to rape you.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Yeah, Miriam, how painful was it not knowing what was
- 15:45Speaker 2: happening to Alana while she was in captivity.
- 15:51Speaker 8: I cannot describe the pain. It's something you do not
- 15:55Speaker 8: deserve to anyone. It's like a.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Horror movie, know that when.
- 16:03Speaker 3: They tell you that it's kidnapped by a.
- 16:05Speaker 6: Mass We also sleep on the floor with h blank
- 16:12Speaker 6: like this. There are a lot of insects and dirty
- 16:20Speaker 6: in all the house.
- 16:23Speaker 8: And.
- 16:26Speaker 6: Water like a half of litter. I lost the eleven
- 16:33Speaker 6: kilo fifty five days. And then the terrorists in front
- 16:39Speaker 6: turned around to us and told us in inebrio, you
- 16:44Speaker 6: are not going to home.
- 16:46Speaker 7: We are taking you to the tunnels. They must have
- 16:49Speaker 7: been so weak.
- 16:51Speaker 6: I weak. I have no shoes, so my feets were
- 16:56Speaker 6: with blood. I can breathe because there was no osygen.
- 17:02Speaker 8: My success that he was just playing to things, that
- 17:07Speaker 8: she was safe and a life, or it was better
- 17:14Speaker 8: not to suffer her and be better. So I told
- 17:18Speaker 8: him I know she's alive. I know because I feel her.
- 17:27Speaker 8: My cell phone brings and they said medium Ilana said
- 17:30Speaker 8: that list, so I said, please repeat it.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Medium Illinis on the list, so we.
- 17:38Speaker 7: That was a post.
- 17:39Speaker 3: The list meant she was going to be raised.
- 17:42Speaker 8: Yes, So I wake up, my son, I wake up,
- 17:45Speaker 8: and I told everybody Illan is going to be released.
- 17:48Speaker 6: My only believe that I go now when I see
- 17:51Speaker 6: the they.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Read the Red Cross, the Red Cross, And what was
- 17:56Speaker 2: that feeling when you saw the red Cross?
- 18:00Speaker 6: The feeling was that my body is safely, but my
- 18:08Speaker 6: soul is going to stay in the tunnels.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Take me to the moment when you finally got to
- 18:16Speaker 2: wrap her in your arms in the hospital, when she
- 18:19Speaker 2: was free.
- 18:20Speaker 8: Listen and I were right through the hospital and we
- 18:24Speaker 8: hope we cheese would try. I bless her, I thank
- 18:32Speaker 8: God because she made the miracle.
- 18:41Speaker 2: We've got beautiful photographs of the ton all around your apartment.
- 18:46Speaker 2: But how does it feel knowing he is still in
- 18:49Speaker 2: the tunnels after one year?
- 18:51Speaker 6: It's difficult with the empty bed and wake up and
- 18:56Speaker 6: it's the same nightmare. It's continual, But I wake up
- 19:04Speaker 6: strong because if the hostage can survive.
- 19:08Speaker 7: A you're there and fighting for her.
- 19:10Speaker 6: Life as I need to come to wake up all
- 19:13Speaker 6: morning to still fighting for them so they come home, so.
- 19:17Speaker 7: They can come home. Where does your dough get her
- 19:19Speaker 7: strength from.
- 19:22Speaker 1: She's very agian and she will after this.
- 19:28Speaker 8: I know she will fight any fight, anything she has
- 19:31Speaker 8: in front of her, She's going to do it. I'm
- 19:36Speaker 8: very proud of her, and that's it that she.
- 19:43Speaker 2: She's amazing, such a beautiful family, and I just love
- 19:51Speaker 2: spending time with them, so brave with Alana to tell
- 19:53Speaker 2: us her story. Really amazing young woman. Now being here
- 19:58Speaker 2: in Jerusalem. Israelis a flamixed by suggestion that there should
- 20:02Speaker 2: be a ceasefire when terrorist fire rockets every day and
- 20:06Speaker 2: there are steelers. We've just been hearing one hundred and
- 20:09Speaker 2: one hostages in Gaza. I discussed this earlier with the
- 20:13Speaker 2: spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Israel, Iron Mamostin.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Have a look.
- 20:20Speaker 7: Thank you so much for your time, really appreciate it.
- 20:22Speaker 2: I've just met with the Israeli Prime Minister, benjaminette Yahu,
- 20:26Speaker 2: and he made the point that this war isn't just
- 20:30Speaker 2: about fighting for Israel's survival, but for the Middle East
- 20:34Speaker 2: and Western civilization. Do you think the international community has
- 20:39Speaker 2: failed to grasp just the significance of this.
- 20:44Speaker 5: I think the Prime Minister is absolutely right, and I
- 20:47Speaker 5: think perhaps answering your question about the international community, respond,
- 20:53Speaker 5: I think it's important with all the news pouring in
- 20:58Speaker 5: to remind us or why are we at this point
- 21:03Speaker 5: in time? We never wanted this war. This war was
- 21:09Speaker 5: forced upon us on October seventh, completely unprovoked. Hamas launch
- 21:18Speaker 5: the biggest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. Nearly twelve
- 21:23Speaker 5: hundred people were slaughtered, women were raped, families were burned alive.
- 21:32Speaker 5: So perhaps international community Western audience have forgotten. We don't
- 21:40Speaker 5: have the luxury to forget.
- 21:43Speaker 7: So many people have been affected here exactly.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Almost everyone knows someone who has taken hostage or murdered,
- 21:49Speaker 2: or even now injured or killed in battle.
- 21:53Speaker 5: The stories are everywhere, but it's not only the stories
- 21:57Speaker 5: that happen on October seven. It's making sure that those
- 22:02Speaker 5: stories won't repeat themselves. We're fighting with one cause to
- 22:09Speaker 5: make sure that October seventh massacre won't happen again and
- 22:14Speaker 5: to bring our hostages back home.
- 22:17Speaker 2: There are reports that the hostages are being used by
- 22:20Speaker 2: ya Ya Sinoa as a form of protection human shields.
- 22:26Speaker 2: What is the plan to get the hostages to bring
- 22:29Speaker 2: them home? A year on from October seven.
- 22:32Speaker 5: So there are three objectives to this war. The first
- 22:38Speaker 5: one is to remove the threat. Like I said, to
- 22:42Speaker 5: make sure that Hamas has no military and governmental capabilities
- 22:47Speaker 5: to repeat this massacre. The second objective is to make
- 22:54Speaker 5: sure those hostages are back home. And the third objective
- 22:58Speaker 5: is to make sure that the civilians, the people living
- 23:03Speaker 5: in the northern part of Israel, can go back to
- 23:05Speaker 5: their home. And the plan is to put as much
- 23:09Speaker 5: as pressure on Hamas to make sure that there is
- 23:14Speaker 5: no ceasefire without the release of hostages.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Well, turning to Hasbela, we have seen incredible success by
- 23:23Speaker 2: Israel in dismantling the Hasbela leadership.
- 23:27Speaker 7: Can you do the same in Gaza with Sinowa?
- 23:31Speaker 5: You know you mentioned his Bala. And again this is
- 23:33Speaker 5: important because sometimes people are asking why now Lebanon, Why
- 23:37Speaker 5: now Chris Bala. Again, it's important to remember why we're
- 23:44Speaker 5: here at this point in time. On October eighth, just
- 23:48Speaker 5: a day after the massacre, again completely unprovoked, His Bala
- 23:54Speaker 5: attacked Israel with thousands of rockets. Doesn't Israelise were killed,
- 24:01Speaker 5: were murdered by Isabella, including twelve children who were murdered
- 24:06Speaker 5: while they were playing soccer, and sixty thousand Israelis were
- 24:13Speaker 5: forced to be evacuated from their homes. So we're doing
- 24:17Speaker 5: what every country would do for its people. We're trying
- 24:20Speaker 5: to protect the Sevinians, We're trying to protect the families.
- 24:24Speaker 2: In your role, you'd come across a lot of international
- 24:28Speaker 2: journalists and media outlets. Do you have a comment on
- 24:31Speaker 2: the extent of the anti Israel bias that we see
- 24:34Speaker 2: in the mainstream press narrative.
- 24:37Speaker 5: I think sometimes when it comes to the media, there
- 24:43Speaker 5: is a tendency to have a very short memory, just
- 24:49Speaker 5: to look at what's happening right now and not to
- 24:52Speaker 5: look at the big picture. And the big picture for
- 24:57Speaker 5: us israelis is the day to day picture is that
- 25:01Speaker 5: we are being attacked and we're trying to protect our families.
- 25:05Speaker 5: Let me be personal for a second, Like I said,
- 25:08Speaker 5: I have two daughters, one in the age of eleven
- 25:13Speaker 5: and the other is in the age of eight. Last
- 25:16Speaker 5: week they were rushed into shelter because Iran, which of
- 25:23Speaker 5: course is masterminding this attack of Ramas of Rizbala and
- 25:28Speaker 5: directly attacking Israel, launched more than one hundred and eighty
- 25:33Speaker 5: ballistic missiles on Israel. Think of of Canberra being attacked
- 25:38Speaker 5: with more than one hundred eight missiles incomprehensible, truly. So
- 25:43Speaker 5: you know, at the end of the day, there are
- 25:46Speaker 5: people in the story, and this is what we're trying
- 25:50Speaker 5: to do. We're trying to live peaceful life. We didn't
- 25:54Speaker 5: want this war, but now that it is forced on us,
- 25:58Speaker 5: we are forced to it because we don't have another
- 26:02Speaker 5: earlier choice. And this is, by the way, the reason
- 26:04Speaker 5: why we'll win, because there is no other choice for
- 26:08Speaker 5: the people in Israel. If we'll lose, we'll die.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Yeah, no room for failure. I really appreciate your time.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Thank you very much, Jennie, Thank you.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Well.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Still plenty more to come, and dawning allegations against Deputy
- 26:21Speaker 2: Prime Minister Richard Miles from one of the government's most
- 26:25Speaker 2: senior female advisors. I'll discuss that with my panel back
- 26:29Speaker 2: in Australia shortly. Plus the truth about Hermas's rape and
- 26:33Speaker 2: sexual violence against young women and why the world wants
- 26:38Speaker 2: to deny it.
- 26:39Speaker 3: That's after this quick break. Welcome back.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Well.
- 26:46Speaker 2: From the minute the world began to learn of the
- 26:48Speaker 2: tragic events on October seven, there were horrific stories of
- 26:52Speaker 2: women being raped, sexually assaulted, and even violently mutilated by Hermas.
- 26:59Speaker 2: These were reports that came from people on the ground,
- 27:02Speaker 2: and I've spoken to several of these witnesses myself, Yet
- 27:06Speaker 2: no one took the account seriously until the UN Special
- 27:09Speaker 2: Representative on Sexual Violence and Conflict confirmed there was reasonable
- 27:14Speaker 2: ground to believe that Hermas terrorists use sexual violence during
- 27:18Speaker 2: the brutal attack. Yet even so many so called feminists,
- 27:24Speaker 2: fraudulent feminists, and international women's organizations have remained all but
- 27:29Speaker 2: silent on this awful reality. Well, one incredible woman who
- 27:34Speaker 2: hasn't stayed silent is co founder of the Dina project,
- 27:38Speaker 2: Ayelet Rasenbetto, and she joins me, now, ayele It, thank
- 27:41Speaker 2: you very much for your time here in Jerusalem.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Thanking from being here.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Now, can you tell us some of the evidence and
- 27:48Speaker 2: tell Australians who might not have heard this from any
- 27:50Speaker 2: of the women's groups.
- 27:52Speaker 3: What did we see? What rape and sexual violence? What
- 27:55Speaker 3: was the extent of it?
- 27:56Speaker 9: By her mus Well, First of all, I'll say we'll
- 27:59Speaker 9: probably never know the full extent because part of the
- 28:04Speaker 9: systematical brutal attack, after the rapes and the mutilation and
- 28:11Speaker 9: the abuse, was to murder and also burn the victims.
- 28:15Speaker 9: We can see this mo in different scenes across the
- 28:21Speaker 9: gaza envelope where the attack was held, So we'll probably.
- 28:25Speaker 3: Never know what really happened.
- 28:26Speaker 9: The scope of what really happened, I will.
- 28:29Speaker 3: Say, though, that what we do see.
- 28:32Speaker 9: Again in the four different main scenes, the army bases,
- 28:36Speaker 9: the kibusin the Nova party and the two three two
- 28:40Speaker 9: road are. First of all, we have survivors and eyewitnesses
- 28:48Speaker 9: to rapes and gang rapes very brutal. Many of the
- 28:53Speaker 9: victims have been shot during the during the rape, and
- 28:59Speaker 9: the apes continued after the victim was dead. We see
- 29:06Speaker 9: footage of mutilation of gender that's gender based violence, of
- 29:12Speaker 9: violence that's aimed at the sexuality at the when.
- 29:16Speaker 2: We talked about mutilation, we're talking about mutilation of female
- 29:19Speaker 2: sexual orchards.
- 29:20Speaker 9: And male Also we see cutting of breasts, shooting at
- 29:24Speaker 9: the pelvic area.
- 29:27Speaker 7: Uh.
- 29:27Speaker 9: We see footage from bodies that were brought to Gayza
- 29:31Speaker 9: of jumping on the pelvis, on the buttocks, touching, spitting
- 29:38Speaker 9: at again everything this violence is aimed at the sexuality
- 29:42Speaker 9: and the genitals of a person, men and female.
- 29:45Speaker 2: There's also a lot of photographs of women, in particular
- 29:50Speaker 2: I'm being stripped, stripped naked. These are by naked and
- 29:54Speaker 2: then paraded around.
- 29:55Speaker 9: By her mus We call this the talking bodies. Bodies
- 29:59Speaker 9: that really either taken and maybe some of them are
- 30:01Speaker 9: still not. Maybe some of them are still being held
- 30:04Speaker 9: in Gaza, and some of them were found on ground
- 30:08Speaker 9: uh uh, stripped, naked fully or partially bodies abuse again
- 30:14Speaker 9: to the sexuality of the person gagged, tiede bound, tied,
- 30:23Speaker 9: no wonder where Bloody pelvises. Yes, And again what's really
- 30:28Speaker 9: important for me to stress is that you see this
- 30:30Speaker 9: in the four main scenes of the attack, and when
- 30:34Speaker 9: you see this, I'm I'm a legal professional. When you
- 30:37Speaker 9: see this in different scenes, you can understand that this
- 30:41Speaker 9: is a pattern. And if it's a pattern, it's free meditated.
- 30:44Speaker 9: It's not some especially brutal unit that got to the Nova,
- 30:49Speaker 9: because you see this in the different scenes.
- 30:52Speaker 2: But before we came on air, I let you were
- 30:54Speaker 2: showing me some of the truly graphic and far too
- 30:58Speaker 2: graphic to broadcast image of women who their bodies, who
- 31:02Speaker 2: had been completely burt to these or corpses.
- 31:04Speaker 3: But you could see the signs, as you.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Say, of them being gagged or mutilation and their legs
- 31:11Speaker 2: left open.
- 31:12Speaker 3: It's just so horrific.
- 31:14Speaker 2: And when you've got that sort of evidence, what do
- 31:16Speaker 2: you say about all of the women's organizations who have
- 31:20Speaker 2: mostly been silent, maybe a bare statement, but certainly not
- 31:24Speaker 2: campaigning against this.
- 31:26Speaker 9: Now I'll say this, I'm heartbroken.
- 31:29Speaker 3: I feel betrayed.
- 31:30Speaker 9: I come myself a professional feminist. All my life, I've
- 31:33Speaker 9: been protesting for women. I truly believe and still believe.
- 31:38Speaker 9: I didn't change the rules on feminism.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Truly believe that.
- 31:41Speaker 3: This solidarity right.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Did the Me Too protest show us that this.
- 31:45Speaker 9: Happens everywhere in every you know, every everywhere in the world,
- 31:49Speaker 9: and every economical status everywhere, and when it happens to women,
- 31:55Speaker 9: to Jewish women israelly women.
- 31:58Speaker 3: Suddenly we need the golden evidence.
- 32:01Speaker 9: Suddenly there's denials, Suddenly there's a reducement of the claims.
- 32:06Speaker 9: Did anyone questions the claims of the Yazdi women or
- 32:10Speaker 9: the Ukrainian women? No, because we believe, because we know
- 32:14Speaker 9: this goes as far as Bible days, the sexual terror,
- 32:18Speaker 9: sexual using the bodies of women as ours.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Yes, it goes back to the Bible.
- 32:25Speaker 9: We called ourselves the Dina Project because Dina is the
- 32:28Speaker 9: daughter of Jacob and Leah who was abducted and.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Raped the biblical character.
- 32:33Speaker 9: Why is it so hard to believe that it happened
- 32:35Speaker 9: here in Israel. There's no explanation because except plain old
- 32:41Speaker 9: good anti semitismism.
- 32:43Speaker 2: And that's what it is that the left wing Jewish groups, sorry,
- 32:46Speaker 2: the left wing feminist groups, so called feminist groups, do
- 32:49Speaker 2: not care about Israeli women being raped.
- 32:51Speaker 3: And that's just a matter. And that includes all of
- 32:53Speaker 3: the UN bodies as well. It's disgraceful. Well, good on you.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Thank you for having the strength to speak out about
- 32:58Speaker 2: such a difficult topic day in day out and sharing
- 33:02Speaker 2: the presentation with the graphic images. You're doing such important
- 33:06Speaker 2: work and the world needs to wake up.
- 33:08Speaker 9: Thank you, I elitt thank you for giving this a
- 33:10Speaker 9: staged course of course.
- 33:12Speaker 2: Now after the break, Anthony Alberezi slammed over his chronic
- 33:16Speaker 2: mismanagement of foreign policy. Plus Richard Miles, chief of staff,
- 33:20Speaker 2: comes out in an emotional press conference, accusing his office
- 33:25Speaker 2: of bullying my panel back.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Home will join me next. Welcome back.
- 33:32Speaker 2: If you're just tuning in, I'm here in beautiful Jerusalem,
- 33:35Speaker 2: but joining me back home in Australia is National Senate
- 33:39Speaker 2: leader Bridget mackenzie and Liberal Senator Holly Hughes. Welcome to
- 33:43Speaker 2: you both well. Explosive revelations today in the Guardian from
- 33:47Speaker 2: the Deputy Prime Minister's chief of staff she's made damning
- 33:51Speaker 2: allegations of bullying. Joe Tanaski claims she's been effectively barred
- 33:56Speaker 2: from her office and has been shunned by Richard Miles
- 33:59Speaker 2: for five months ever since she complained about colleagues undermining her.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Here she was at an emotional press conference earlier today.
- 34:09Speaker 10: I have been plagued with nightmares, flashbacks, symptoms of depression
- 34:14Speaker 10: and anxiety, panic attacks and suicidal thoughts. I am being
- 34:20Speaker 10: bullied out of a job. I loved that I was
- 34:23Speaker 10: doing well. It was a job that I dreamed of
- 34:25Speaker 10: having since I first visited Parliament House as a child.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Bridget this is a senior staff member in the Albanezi government.
- 34:35Speaker 3: Quite shocking allegations there.
- 34:39Speaker 11: Yeah, absolutely, and as she made mention in her comments,
- 34:44Speaker 11: for women to get to the very highest of roles
- 34:48Speaker 11: in this building is quite difficult, and she's at the
- 34:52Speaker 11: moment the most senior female chief of staff in the government. Obviously,
- 34:58Speaker 11: everybody deserves a safe and respectful workplace. We know that
- 35:03Speaker 11: the PWSs has come into force and I'm assuming these
- 35:09Speaker 11: allegations will be forwarded to that body as soon as possible,
- 35:13Speaker 11: if they haven't already.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Holly, what sort of response, do you think we should
- 35:17Speaker 2: be seeing from the Deputy Prime Minister here?
- 35:20Speaker 3: Well, I guess Shari.
- 35:21Speaker 12: One of the concerns that I have, and I think
- 35:23Speaker 12: one of the most difficult things to listen to when
- 35:28Speaker 12: that press conference was going on, was that the Miles's
- 35:32Speaker 12: chiefs for staff she had got a phone call asking
- 35:35Speaker 12: for the code to the safe in her office which
- 35:38Speaker 12: contained national security documents that she was responsible for. Now,
- 35:44Speaker 12: she's done the right thing in my view, at least
- 35:46Speaker 12: of not providing that code, But the fact that whichever
- 35:50Speaker 12: staff in the Deputy Prime Minister's office, in the Defense
- 35:53Speaker 12: Minister's office was making that phone call, that they didn't
- 35:57Speaker 12: have the awareness that those documents that were of national
- 36:01Speaker 12: security importance, that were classified documents that unbeknownst to her,
- 36:07Speaker 12: if she'd have handed that quote over, could have been
- 36:09Speaker 12: opened by anyone and available to anyone. I think that
- 36:12Speaker 12: is something that certainly needs to be responded to by
- 36:16Speaker 12: the Deputy Prime Minister and most likely the Prime Minister.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Well, I'm sure we'll keep on this as the days progress.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Now concerning reports in the Daily Telegraph today that the
- 36:26Speaker 2: nation's e Safety Commissioner has found more than one point
- 36:30Speaker 2: three million Australian children under the age of thirteen are
- 36:35Speaker 2: already active.
- 36:35Speaker 3: On social media.
- 36:37Speaker 2: This is completely flouting the current existing age restrictions. Bridget
- 36:43Speaker 2: you know, the social media companies say they've got age restrictions,
- 36:46Speaker 2: but they're clearly not working at all.
- 36:50Speaker 11: Absolutely Sharhi, I think it's really tough environment, not just
- 36:54Speaker 11: for young people who are subject to a whole lot
- 36:58Speaker 11: of negative influences on social media, but parents who are
- 37:02Speaker 11: trying to keep their children safe, and for platforms to
- 37:07Speaker 11: say they have an age restriction and they're not in
- 37:10Speaker 11: any way ask for verification of age really just allows
- 37:16Speaker 11: these platforms to be open to abuse. So we've been
- 37:19Speaker 11: calling for a long time for age verification to be
- 37:22Speaker 11: part of our regulatory environment here. There is debate about
- 37:28Speaker 11: how young we set that, but at the very least
- 37:30Speaker 11: we should be making sure we do everything we can
- 37:33Speaker 11: to protect young people. And it was fascinating to see
- 37:36Speaker 11: two premiers out to labor, premiers from the right wing
- 37:40Speaker 11: malanowskis Amns promoting the fact we need to keep our
- 37:44Speaker 11: children safe online. The Coalition federally has been promoting that
- 37:48Speaker 11: for a long time. It'd be great to see federal
- 37:50Speaker 11: labor catch up.
- 37:51Speaker 2: It's going to be a big generational shift, though, Holly,
- 37:54Speaker 2: to have to see parents try and get their kids
- 37:58Speaker 2: offline when there's already one point three million children under
- 38:01Speaker 2: the age of thirteen. Now we're talking about raising the
- 38:04Speaker 2: age restrictions to fourteen or sixteen. So this is going
- 38:08Speaker 2: to be a big cultural change that families are going
- 38:11Speaker 2: to have to try and adjust to.
- 38:14Speaker 12: Absolutely it is, and I've been reading The Anxious Generation
- 38:17Speaker 12: by Jonathan Hayde, which ties the introduction of smartphones to
- 38:21Speaker 12: an increase in anxiety and depression, particularly around young girls,
- 38:25Speaker 12: but across this new generation that have grown up with smartphones.
- 38:29Speaker 12: I do think whilst there is an obligation on the
- 38:31Speaker 12: social media giants to make sure that there is age verification,
- 38:35Speaker 12: I do think that there are things that parents can do.
- 38:37Speaker 12: You know, if your kid needs to have a phone,
- 38:39Speaker 12: that's great, but maybe not a smartphone because we know
- 38:43Speaker 12: some of the bullying that goes on online and the
- 38:46Speaker 12: reason it continues both in and outside of the school
- 38:49Speaker 12: yard is because it's constantly available on the phone. So
- 38:53Speaker 12: perhaps if we saw kids go back to maybe the
- 38:55Speaker 12: old I don't know, was it Nokia three ten or
- 38:58Speaker 12: something that we had that the game on.
- 39:00Speaker 3: It was snafe.
- 39:01Speaker 12: You could send a text message and receive a phone
- 39:04Speaker 12: call about keeping kids safe. And maybe it is parents
- 39:08Speaker 12: at schools coming together and say that's it. We're not
- 39:10Speaker 12: allowing kids to have smartphones until they're sixteen or fourteen,
- 39:15Speaker 12: and parents get together, so you're not having the peer
- 39:18Speaker 12: pressure within the classroom at the schools.
- 39:21Speaker 3: So it's not just about government intervention.
- 39:23Speaker 12: I do think it's time that parents start to take
- 39:26Speaker 12: some responsibility here and say, you know what, you are
- 39:29Speaker 12: too young to have access to this technology twenty four seven,
- 39:32Speaker 12: and we're going to do something about it.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Jarie.
- 39:35Speaker 11: It's not just about bullying et ceter that comes online.
- 39:39Speaker 11: We've got young men in particular being exposed to, you know,
- 39:43Speaker 11: pornography like you know Penthouse and Layboy, which was the
- 39:48Speaker 11: dajuur in the seventies and eighties when I grew up.
- 39:52Speaker 3: It is just so explicit. It is violent, is.
- 39:55Speaker 11: Violent, and it is contributing to the treatment of young women.
- 40:01Speaker 11: And if we really want to see this generation of
- 40:03Speaker 11: young people grow up as happy and healthy and well
- 40:05Speaker 11: adjusted adults, we need to stop filling their minds with
- 40:09Speaker 11: such negative and atrocious material.
- 40:12Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, said, okay, we'll just quickly to end.
- 40:14Speaker 2: In a huge insult to Albanesi, John Howard has accused
- 40:18Speaker 2: him of chronic mismanagement of foreign policy and compared it
- 40:22Speaker 2: to even Mark Latham. Back in two thousand and four,
- 40:26Speaker 2: The Australian reporting that the former Prime Minister said that
- 40:29Speaker 2: Labor doesn't really have a significant grasp on the nuancewers
- 40:32Speaker 2: of foreign policy in the Middle East. The government can't
- 40:35Speaker 2: even make its mind up about what to do over
- 40:37Speaker 2: Gaza and Lebanon Holly. These accusations from John Howard are
- 40:43Speaker 2: utterly one hundred percent correct.
- 40:47Speaker 12: Absolutely they're correct, and I think we can all be
- 40:50Speaker 12: grateful that Mark Latham never got the keys to the lodge.
- 40:53Speaker 12: Unfortunately Albanesi did. His incompetence is on display every single day.
- 41:00Speaker 12: We saw with his Turettes outburst this week the quality
- 41:03Speaker 12: of his character, and I think we're seeing that it's
- 41:06Speaker 12: found very wanting. But his position on Israel has consistently
- 41:11Speaker 12: shown he's trying to talk out of both sides of
- 41:13Speaker 12: his mouth. He doesn't know how to stand up for
- 41:16Speaker 12: our friends and allies, and he's too busy trying to
- 41:19Speaker 12: play undergraduate politics and appease certain members of his party.
- 41:24Speaker 12: He is absolutely not up to this job. He's not
- 41:26Speaker 12: up to this job on foreign affairs. He's not up
- 41:28Speaker 12: to this job on domestic issues either.
- 41:31Speaker 3: Bridget twenty seconds.
- 41:34Speaker 11: Well, you know today this week we came together for
- 41:37Speaker 11: October the seventh, the world said generations ago, never again.
- 41:42Speaker 11: The Holocaust didn't start with gas chambers and Jews in
- 41:46Speaker 11: cattle trucks. It started with protests, it started with hate speech,
- 41:51Speaker 11: and it started with antisemitism being normalized. In the last
- 41:54Speaker 11: twelve months, we've seen anti Semitism being normalized in our suburbs,
- 41:59Speaker 11: Jewish businesses, academics and students being attacked, and most recent
- 42:04Speaker 11: was reported today. It's time for all of us, not
- 42:07Speaker 11: just Anthony alberneath it, but all of us to stand
- 42:10Speaker 11: up and be counted when our community needs us.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and we're so grateful for the support of both
- 42:16Speaker 2: of you, strong women, Bridget Mackenzie, Holly Hughes, thank you
- 42:18Speaker 2: very much for joining me. Now coming up, how Penny
- 42:21Speaker 2: Wang has given eighty two million dollars to Gaza while
- 42:26Speaker 2: Jews around the world have to fund donations to Israel.
- 42:29Speaker 3: Plus my reflections on.
- 42:31Speaker 2: This significant week of reporting in Israel that's after this
- 42:35Speaker 2: quick break, welcome back.
- 42:40Speaker 13: Well.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Penny Wong has given eighty two million dollars in taxpayer
- 42:44Speaker 2: funds to Gaza and the Palestinian territories since the October
- 42:48Speaker 2: seven terror attacks against Israel. Yet it's been up to
- 42:52Speaker 2: Jewish communities around the world to raise funds to give
- 42:56Speaker 2: personal donations to Israelis affected by this war on October
- 43:01Speaker 2: seven and six.
- 43:02Speaker 3: We're joining me now.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Is the world chairman of UIA, that's the United Israel Appeal,
- 43:08Speaker 2: Sam Grundwerk.
- 43:09Speaker 3: Sam, thank you very much for your time.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Why are donations needed in Israel and who do they support?
- 43:17Speaker 13: So UIA United Israel Appeal. We've been around for over
- 43:21Speaker 13: one hundred years as one of the founding national institutions
- 43:23Speaker 13: of the State of Israel and Australia and the communities
- 43:27Speaker 13: across Australia, the great Jewish communities, but also our Christian
- 43:31Speaker 13: friends of Israel have always supported Israel, but especially now
- 43:34Speaker 13: in the last year, since October seventh, the needs are tremendous,
- 43:38Speaker 13: helping making, helping humanitarian, social relief. We help funds of
- 43:44Speaker 13: victims of terror, the family members of those that were murdered, kidnapped, injured,
- 43:52Speaker 13: and we also are assisting the tens of thousands of
- 43:56Speaker 13: families that are displaced from their homes. And you've seen
- 43:58Speaker 13: this yourself sharing the last week that you've been here.
- 44:01Speaker 13: When you talk about resilience and the mental trauma and
- 44:06Speaker 13: the help that thousands and thousands, if not even greater,
- 44:09Speaker 13: we're talking about a nation in trauma, a bereaved nation.
- 44:14Speaker 13: And so the communities across Australia have been unbelievable. There
- 44:19Speaker 13: are great Australians who are strong friends and supporters of Israel,
- 44:24Speaker 13: both the Jewish community and our Christian friends there.
- 44:27Speaker 2: And you know, a lot of people forget that there
- 44:29Speaker 2: have been eighty thousand Israeli families displaced from.
- 44:33Speaker 3: The northern border.
- 44:35Speaker 2: The people in the Kibltzim all of their homes completely
- 44:38Speaker 2: burnt down. They've lost everything, which is why the donations
- 44:42Speaker 2: are so important.
- 44:44Speaker 3: Now. Stephen Lowie's part of your organization.
- 44:46Speaker 2: He gave a very powerful speech recently in Sydney where
- 44:50Speaker 2: he spoke about the anti Semitism that we're seeing.
- 44:53Speaker 3: He showed leadership in speaking publicly about this.
- 44:56Speaker 2: You know, what's your comment on this anti semitism that
- 44:59Speaker 2: spread well, Steve.
- 45:01Speaker 13: The Lowi and I work extremely closely together for the
- 45:04Speaker 13: last six years, and he's a great example of a
- 45:07Speaker 13: product of Australia and the opportunities that Australia has given
- 45:11Speaker 13: to the Jews that have come there, especially since World
- 45:15Speaker 13: War Two and the Holocaust. Stephen gave a critically important
- 45:19Speaker 13: speech about anti Semitism and the importance to standing up
- 45:23Speaker 13: against anti semitism, having the moral clarity to call out
- 45:27Speaker 13: what is singling out the Jews, and having double standards,
- 45:31Speaker 13: and he made a very important point to say that
- 45:34Speaker 13: it always starts with the Jews, but it never ends
- 45:36Speaker 13: with the Jews. And so it's a very important message
- 45:41Speaker 13: from a leader, not just a Jewish leader, but a
- 45:43Speaker 13: leader in the business world who supports culture, medicine policy.
- 45:50Speaker 13: And so we've been we're working very close together and
- 45:54Speaker 13: fighting and standing out against anti Semitism is incredibly important.
- 45:57Speaker 2: I think it's also important to mention that the oganization
- 46:00Speaker 2: Uia doesn't just help Jews, it helps all Israelis and
- 46:05Speaker 2: it's a very multicultural society and a lot of the
- 46:08Speaker 2: victims of October seven, actually not a lot, but some
- 46:11Speaker 2: of the victims actually weren't.
- 46:12Speaker 13: Jews absolutely, and a lot of the support also that
- 46:14Speaker 13: we do. I mentioned it's humanitarian for the civilians, for
- 46:19Speaker 13: our citizens. We also provide a lot to helping with
- 46:23Speaker 13: the medical care and the first responders. And like you say, Shari,
- 46:27Speaker 13: there's no distinction between We have almost ten million citizens
- 46:31Speaker 13: here in Israel and about two million or so are
- 46:35Speaker 13: not Jews, and there's no distinction. And we are there
- 46:38Speaker 13: to help the people of Israel and all of those
- 46:40Speaker 13: that are suffering and the connection. I'll give you just
- 46:44Speaker 13: an example. In a period of just twenty four hours
- 46:47Speaker 13: this week, I went to visit nine different homes of
- 46:51Speaker 13: bereaved families we call sitting shiva, that are mourning their
- 46:57Speaker 13: loved ones. And when I go and introduce myself that
- 47:00Speaker 13: I'm from UIA, United Israel Appeal, and that I'm representing
- 47:04Speaker 13: the communities and our friends in Australia and in forty
- 47:07Speaker 13: five other countries around the world, and that I'm bringing
- 47:10Speaker 13: my condolences and to console them in the name of
- 47:14Speaker 13: all of those communities. So powerful, it really resonates.
- 47:17Speaker 3: All right, Sam Grundwerk, thank you very much for joining me.
- 47:20Speaker 13: Thank you.
- 47:23Speaker 2: Now, before we go, I'd like to share a final
- 47:25Speaker 2: reflection on the week that I've had here in Israel. Yes,
- 47:29Speaker 2: we've covered anguish and suffering and trauma. As you know,
- 47:33Speaker 2: I've spoken with two former hostages, family members whose loved
- 47:37Speaker 2: ones were killed on October seven, and Israelis who are
- 47:40Speaker 2: still desperate to bring their loved ones home from the
- 47:44Speaker 2: tunnels in Gaza. We've had tears and grief and again
- 47:48Speaker 2: bewilderment that the international community doesn't stand with Israel in
- 47:53Speaker 2: its darkest hour as it tries to defeat the terrorists
- 47:57Speaker 2: who did all of this and would do it again
- 47:59Speaker 2: if left unchecked.
- 48:01Speaker 3: But what will stay with me the most is.
- 48:05Speaker 2: The warmth, the love, the solidarity, the strength, the friendships
- 48:10Speaker 2: forged here, the heartfelt connections made. I have felt the
- 48:15Speaker 2: strongest connections with almost everyone I've interviewed. Aviva Siegel, who
- 48:20Speaker 2: was trapped in guars and dungeons so small she could
- 48:23Speaker 2: barely breathe, Elana, who you heard tonight was starved during
- 48:28Speaker 2: her time in captivity, and the leaders fighting for our survival.
- 48:34Speaker 2: We all shared determination to survive, resilience to rebuild, and
- 48:40Speaker 2: hope for a future where Israel can live in peace
- 48:43Speaker 2: and security with its neighbors, free from the constant threat
- 48:48Speaker 2: of terror. That's what the Prime Minister told me he's
- 48:52Speaker 2: working to was the number of homes that you see
- 48:55Speaker 2: when you're driving around Israel with the Israeli flag waving outside.
- 49:00Speaker 1: So many.
- 49:01Speaker 2: You'd never see anything like it in Australia because there's
- 49:03Speaker 2: so much pride here to be Israeli. This has been
- 49:08Speaker 2: a week of reporting that I'll never forget and I'm
- 49:10Speaker 2: so pleased I've been able to share these incredible stories
- 49:14Speaker 2: and experiences with you at home in Australia. I'll see
- 49:19Speaker 2: you back home next week and until then, here's James
- 49:22Speaker 2: Morrow hosting for Paul Murray.
