Fish Lake near Cheney is getting a major makeover—biologists are using rotenone to wipe out all existing fish, mostly struggling brook trout, to make way for a new warmwater fishery stocked with largemouth bass and bluegill, with possible spring rainbow trout for anglers. This isn’t the first time—rotenone was used back in 2012—but officials hope this will be the final treatment to stabilize the lake. Poaching during off-seasons has also been a persistent problem.
