- 2:00Speaker 4: Tuesday edition of the show. Another beautiful day here in
- 2:02Speaker 4: the Kanawa Valley. Want to say good morning to everyone. Everyone,
- 2:06Speaker 4: that is, except for the person who thought running a
- 2:09Speaker 4: red light in Tays Valley at around seven this morning,
- 2:13Speaker 4: at the light turning on to Great Says Boulevard to
- 2:17Speaker 4: get that tutor's biscuit. Everybody that that guy who thought
- 2:21Speaker 4: it was a good idea, the cut in front of
- 2:23Speaker 4: all this traffic running a red light, nearly causing a
- 2:26Speaker 4: major accident. The guy into black Chrysler. I hope you
- 2:30Speaker 4: don't have a good day, and I hope you're Mary
- 2:31Speaker 4: b was worth it. So anyway, that laugh is coming
- 2:35Speaker 4: to us from Kenawha County Commission President at Ben Silangko, Hey,
- 2:37Speaker 4: doing man good.
- 2:38Speaker 6: I guarantee you it was worth it?
- 2:41Speaker 4: Was it really was it really it's a tutor. I
- 2:45Speaker 4: loved you. I had on the network show. I had
- 2:49Speaker 4: a couple of weeks ago we had WU President Michael T.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Benson on the show and we literally was a ten
- 2:54Speaker 4: minute interview Ben, and we spent maybe five minutes talking
- 2:58Speaker 4: about tutors.
- 3:00Speaker 6: We could do an entire show on tutors.
- 3:03Speaker 4: And he did not pronounce it tudors. Uh like a
- 3:06Speaker 4: like a like a former president who shall remain names
- 3:09Speaker 4: did uh but uh, But yeah, well he's he's embraced
- 3:13Speaker 4: the culture, you know. And I said and I kind
- 3:16Speaker 4: of got, you know, a little thing going on the
- 3:18Speaker 4: tax line here been by saying, you know, how do
- 3:20Speaker 4: you know you're a true West Virginia? What do you
- 3:22Speaker 4: if you move here? What do you have to sample
- 3:25Speaker 4: or what do you have to have to be a
- 3:26Speaker 4: West Virginia? And I got all kinds of answers. Of course,
- 3:28Speaker 4: tutors Gino's Pepperoni rolls was number one. Of course. You
- 3:33Speaker 4: know that mister b potato chips, you know, yeah, those
- 3:37Speaker 4: are West Virginia things.
- 3:38Speaker 6: Yeah, those are those are good too, especially the new
- 3:40Speaker 6: three or four style and the flavor. We had those
- 3:44Speaker 6: at the house the other day. I tore him through.
- 3:46Speaker 4: You had those your hand, and uh, we're gonna get
- 3:50Speaker 4: to some serious stuff here to remember. But you and
- 3:52Speaker 4: I were just talking before the show. Chris Lawrence is
- 3:55Speaker 4: on vacation this week. And when Chris is on vacation,
- 3:57Speaker 4: you know, Jeff does the New Jeff and Daniel anuals
- 4:00Speaker 4: every morning. But Jeff does the news, and Chris and
- 4:02Speaker 4: I have the same Uh we like our chair like
- 4:05Speaker 4: the same height, and so when Jenkins has been in here,
- 4:07Speaker 4: we just have and it's fine. That's why they make
- 4:09Speaker 4: them adjustable. But I have to have to adjust it
- 4:11Speaker 4: a little bit. And we were saying, you know, you
- 4:13Speaker 4: said I should have my own chair.
- 4:15Speaker 6: Your own chair. They should carry you out in your
- 4:16Speaker 6: own chair. And I suggested feeding you grapes, but that's
- 4:19Speaker 6: way too healthy, and they should feed you tater tots.
- 4:22Speaker 4: I like it, Ryan, Can you make that happen?
- 4:24Speaker 6: Tater tots?
- 4:25Speaker 4: Can we can we do that?
- 4:26Speaker 7: No?
- 4:26Speaker 4: No, tater tots.
- 4:27Speaker 6: You said sliders and slid.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Chicken wings would be good.
- 4:30Speaker 6: That would be good. That'd be messy, But sliders and
- 4:33Speaker 6: tater tots I think would be perfect. And we could
- 4:35Speaker 6: film that, yeah, and on on, you know, on a
- 4:38Speaker 6: video segment. You could use that to promo your show.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, Or you could just set there just like
- 4:42Speaker 4: toss the man'll throw. Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm sure,
- 4:45Speaker 4: I'm sure you will. All right, So we got some
- 4:47Speaker 4: actually serious stuff to get you, not mentioning the guy
- 4:51Speaker 4: who nearly calls the major act in this morning. Do
- 4:53Speaker 4: you know a good lawyer? By the way, I could
- 4:55Speaker 4: I could get an attorney.
- 4:57Speaker 6: You know, just drive down the interstate. You'll see billboards.
- 4:59Speaker 4: I think I've suffered mental anguish.
- 5:01Speaker 6: You probably, I don't suspect there's a lot of other
- 5:03Speaker 6: mental anguish.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Yeah, it probably it's all like coal, coal mine water
- 5:08Speaker 4: and running through my veins under a Yeah.
- 5:11Speaker 2: All right.
- 5:12Speaker 4: So a couple of things I didn't want to talk
- 5:14Speaker 4: to you about. One of those was the UH and
- 5:16Speaker 4: you you've been on here talking about a new commissioner Wadler,
- 5:18Speaker 4: and I think I had when she was on your
- 5:20Speaker 4: commission tenn and talked about it as well. And that
- 5:22Speaker 4: is the update of the law Enforcement Training centered expansion,
- 5:25Speaker 4: if you will talk about that.
- 5:26Speaker 6: Yeah. So that's if you went out to if you're
- 5:29Speaker 6: at Camp Virgil Tate and instead of going all the
- 5:33Speaker 6: way out to the actual uh the park, you know
- 5:36Speaker 6: where the how the homes are, and you turned left
- 5:40Speaker 6: and you go up into the our current Connaughll County
- 5:42Speaker 6: Sheriff's training facility, which is very rundown. In fact, part
- 5:47Speaker 6: of it's falling over the hill. Imagine that in what's
- 5:49Speaker 6: something falling over hill? Uh. So we were up there,
- 5:52Speaker 6: and you know, Sheriff Crawford has been asking us to
- 5:55Speaker 6: do this for a while, and I went up there
- 5:57Speaker 6: and saw it firsthand a couple of months ago. It
- 5:59Speaker 6: had been a while I've been up there. We have
- 6:02Speaker 6: a nice space. We have a nice space, and when
- 6:04Speaker 6: there's a somewhere around forty two forty three agency use
- 6:07Speaker 6: that space, FBI, state Police, you name it. All the
- 6:12Speaker 6: agencies are coming to, all the municipalities are using it
- 6:14Speaker 6: for a shooting range. But it only goes up to
- 6:17Speaker 6: one hundred yards, and part of it, as I mentioned,
- 6:19Speaker 6: is falling over the hill. So we decided to come
- 6:22Speaker 6: in and basically revamp that, redo it. We're going to
- 6:25Speaker 6: have a covered shooting range and I think it's going
- 6:28Speaker 6: to be up to twenty four lanes. So right now,
- 6:30Speaker 6: when our law enforcement go up there, they have to
- 6:33Speaker 6: basically sit and wait. You know, it's like six lanes,
- 6:36Speaker 6: and they wait for people to finish, and then they
- 6:38Speaker 6: come and they're wasting you know, an hour or two
- 6:40Speaker 6: hours up there for other people for just a spot
- 6:43Speaker 6: to open up. So we're going to redo it. I
- 6:45Speaker 6: mean it's going to be about a two million dollar project.
- 6:48Speaker 6: We're going to extend the long gun range, actually build
- 6:50Speaker 6: a new long gun range up to three hundred yards.
- 6:53Speaker 6: One hundred yards long is a lot, but it's not
- 6:56Speaker 6: nearly what our snipers need. So we're going to extend
- 6:59Speaker 6: it up to three hundred yards and then we're going
- 7:01Speaker 6: to a covered facility. Now not enclosed, and closed is
- 7:05Speaker 6: way too limiting. It's just going to be covered, so
- 7:07Speaker 6: three sides of it will be covered so that you
- 7:09Speaker 6: can do pistols. We can we can actually bring an
- 7:15Speaker 6: automobile underneath and practice shooting into and also shooting out
- 7:19Speaker 6: of the automobile. We have we have a contract with
- 7:22Speaker 6: one of the windshield replacement companies locally and whenever they
- 7:26Speaker 6: just have a cracked windshield that they replace, they give
- 7:28Speaker 6: it to us and we put it in a car
- 7:30Speaker 6: and our law enforcement officers train shooting in and out
- 7:33Speaker 6: of it.
- 7:35Speaker 4: And that's very important, I mean it really is, I
- 7:37Speaker 4: mean extremely important.
- 7:39Speaker 6: It changes the trajectory of the bullet and so when
- 7:42Speaker 6: and they've had this situation a few years ago, we
- 7:46Speaker 6: had a situation where one of our officers had to
- 7:49Speaker 6: defend himself by shooting. He was inside the car, had
- 7:52Speaker 6: to shoot out, and it changes the trajectory of the
- 7:55Speaker 6: bullet because of the way the angle of the windshield.
- 7:57Speaker 6: You know, anytime a bullet goes through something, it has
- 7:59Speaker 6: the chance to change the directory. So they have to
- 8:02Speaker 6: train for that scenario. And you know, we're lucky to
- 8:05Speaker 6: have a good corporate partner that lets us have their
- 8:09Speaker 6: old broken windshields and our guys train and girls train
- 8:14Speaker 6: inside and out. And it's very important because they find
- 8:18Speaker 6: themselves in that situation far more than they should well.
- 8:22Speaker 4: And I think it's also important and you mentioned it
- 8:23Speaker 4: there at the beginning. Again, we're talking to Kanawa County Commission,
- 8:27Speaker 4: president of NSULANGO about the number of agencies that use
- 8:30Speaker 4: this when you say like forty fifty something like that,
- 8:32Speaker 4: forty two or.
- 8:33Speaker 6: Forty three, and then in federal agencies all over. So
- 8:35Speaker 6: what we're what we've done is we're gonna the kind
- 8:38Speaker 6: of Conall County Commission has earmarked the money, we've got
- 8:41Speaker 6: the money to do it, and now we're looking at
- 8:43Speaker 6: potentially getting some buy in from other agencies. You know,
- 8:46Speaker 6: we'll talk to the state, we'll talk to the Feds.
- 8:47Speaker 6: We'll see if we'll get some money because they use
- 8:50Speaker 6: it as well, and I think they'll do that. I mean,
- 8:53Speaker 6: I think there's probably an appetite for that. Honestly, even
- 8:56Speaker 6: ICE is using the facility now to train. So we've
- 8:59Speaker 6: got a lot of different agencies that use it and
- 9:02Speaker 6: they benefit from it. So we're going to create an
- 9:05Speaker 6: entirely new pistol range and then also a new long
- 9:09Speaker 6: gun range. But then we're going to shore up the
- 9:12Speaker 6: what we have now. And then we also have an
- 9:14Speaker 6: indoor train, not like indoor range, but like an indoor
- 9:18Speaker 6: It looks like a house that they can breach, go
- 9:20Speaker 6: in clear rooms. You know, they can put something in
- 9:25Speaker 6: there to shoot at or you know, for training, and
- 9:28Speaker 6: they can use they use paintball rounds. But I also
- 9:33Speaker 6: want to try to if we can use this new
- 9:36Speaker 6: facility for training purposes for like kids, you know, to
- 9:41Speaker 6: bring them in, show them how to use a weapon,
- 9:43Speaker 6: show them how you know the safety procedures. You never
- 9:47Speaker 6: point in anything, You only put your finger on the
- 9:49Speaker 6: trigger when you're ready to fire. You don't carry around
- 9:51Speaker 6: a load of gun, you know, make sure there's nothing
- 9:52Speaker 6: in the chamber, those types of things. And I think
- 9:54Speaker 6: that we've got a number of our law enforcement folks
- 9:57Speaker 6: who are willing to do that. You know, have like
- 9:59Speaker 6: a Saturday morning for kids, bring them out, or even
- 10:02Speaker 6: open up the endoor for some some public paintball, which
- 10:05Speaker 6: will be a blast, causeless you're being shot by the paintball,
- 10:08Speaker 6: those things actually hurt. Yes, Yes, I'm aware I took
- 10:12Speaker 6: one in the neck a few years ago and it hurts.
- 10:14Speaker 4: Now. You need a good attorney, right.
- 10:15Speaker 6: That's exactly right. I want to sue the paintball.
- 10:18Speaker 4: There you go. Talking to Knakata Commission Bres, it'd been
- 10:20Speaker 4: sing like, what's our time frame on this ben?
- 10:22Speaker 6: I think we'll be done within a year. We've got
- 10:25Speaker 6: we've put the architectural part out to bid. We're gonna
- 10:29Speaker 6: have to have some engineering because I don't want to
- 10:33Speaker 6: spend a million dollars on a retaining wall, you know.
- 10:36Speaker 6: So there is a section of one of the facilities,
- 10:39Speaker 6: one of the portions of the range that's falling over
- 10:41Speaker 6: the hill. I don't want to have to spend a
- 10:43Speaker 6: bunch of money on a retaining wall, so we may
- 10:45Speaker 6: just have to relocate that and just let that hillside go.
- 10:51Speaker 6: So I think within a year we'll be finished and
- 10:53Speaker 6: we'll be able to open it up. That's that's the goal.
- 10:55Speaker 6: Because there's not really a lot of construction. There's some
- 10:58Speaker 6: tree removal, there's some level, there's going to be some concrete,
- 11:02Speaker 6: but it's not like we're not erecting, you know, giant structures.
- 11:05Speaker 6: We've got this one h three sided covered. But I
- 11:09Speaker 6: don't think that's going to be too significant of a project.
- 11:12Speaker 6: We'll probably have that done with it. Like you know,
- 11:14Speaker 6: once we started, it'll be completed within a month.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Talking again to Kanawh County Commission, bres had been Selanga
- 11:19Speaker 4: a Dave Island showing five eighty Live has brought to

- 11:40Speaker 4: going on there?
- 11:41Speaker 7: You know what?
- 11:41Speaker 6: We have finished the fifth floor, so Judge rich lindsay,
- 11:44Speaker 6: we've he's able to get out of the old courtroom
- 11:47Speaker 6: across the street and is now in his new digs. Uh.
- 11:50Speaker 6: That was That was a big project. That was and
- 11:52Speaker 6: I've said this before, but that was one of the
- 11:54Speaker 6: projects that would keep me up at night because there
- 11:56Speaker 6: were so many moving parts. That was such a complicated project.
- 11:59Speaker 6: You're kind of people would refer to it as landlocked,
- 12:02Speaker 6: but we are street locked. So it's not like we
- 12:04Speaker 6: can build out unless we want to lose Virginia Street.
- 12:09Speaker 6: So there's a lot of stuff going on Virginia Street
- 12:11Speaker 6: to the Mayora. I talked about that last week.
- 12:12Speaker 4: I mean there is I hit town every morning about
- 12:16Speaker 4: seven thirty or so, and I mean it's the buildings
- 12:19Speaker 4: are I mean, these buildings are going These are private structure,
- 12:22Speaker 4: but they're going up like.
- 12:24Speaker 6: They really are. They're doing they're doing a great job
- 12:25Speaker 6: and anxious to have those finished. You can tell progress
- 12:29Speaker 6: in a city when you see cranes. Yeah, that's exactly
- 12:32Speaker 6: what the mayor says. Yeah, that's that's true. That's very true.
- 12:34Speaker 6: And I'm not talking about just putting a new HVA
- 12:36Speaker 6: C on top of the building when they're there for
- 12:38Speaker 6: a while. So we've got we've got the judicial i
- 12:41Speaker 6: an Acts. Now that is a that intersection. People have
- 12:45Speaker 6: to watch out for that intersection that's on the corner
- 12:47Speaker 6: of Virginia and Court Street, and we've tried to block
- 12:51Speaker 6: it off best we can, but it also you know,
- 12:54Speaker 6: goes down. We lose a lane right there in that
- 12:57Speaker 6: in that area, and then pedestrian traffic people have to
- 13:00Speaker 6: really watch out when they're crossing the street because you
- 13:02Speaker 6: have construction and you can be distracted, so you've got
- 13:05Speaker 6: to pay attention. But the construction is coming along. I
- 13:08Speaker 6: think we're going to look at probably on the first
- 13:10Speaker 6: floor part, which was the big part, probably the end
- 13:13Speaker 6: of twenty six, probably the fall of twenty twenty six.
- 13:17Speaker 6: Maybe the end of twenty twenty six is when we'll
- 13:19Speaker 6: be finished. But we initially put that out to bid,
- 13:22Speaker 6: and it came in way over budget, way over budget,
- 13:25Speaker 6: so we took a gamble. We actually broke the project
- 13:27Speaker 6: up in the pieces, rebid it and came in five
- 13:31Speaker 6: and a half million dollars under, which was you know,
- 13:36Speaker 6: I was joking with Lance. I said, we're either going
- 13:38Speaker 6: to look like geniuses or we're going like idiots. I
- 13:40Speaker 6: don't not sure what the coin. Yeah, but it turned
- 13:42Speaker 6: out it turned out really well for us, and we
- 13:44Speaker 6: were able to say five and a half million by
- 13:46Speaker 6: chopping it up and rebidding it.
- 13:48Speaker 4: And that's taxpayer money you're saving.
- 13:49Speaker 6: It's tax payer money. And I think the architects wanted
- 13:52Speaker 6: to kill me when it was over.
- 13:54Speaker 4: But here he comes again.
- 13:55Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah. I was like, no, no, no, we're not
- 13:57Speaker 6: going out. We're not doing this. We can't. We've got
- 13:59Speaker 6: to chop this up. We got to do it differently.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Uh.
- 14:02Speaker 6: I mean, and I said this in the commission meeting,
- 14:04Speaker 6: and I mean it. You know, if this was a
- 14:07Speaker 6: private project like at my law firm or here at
- 14:09Speaker 6: the radio station, and you were five and a half
- 14:11Speaker 6: million dollars over budget, there is no way in the
- 14:13Speaker 6: world you would move forward that project. Well, I mean
- 14:16Speaker 6: if if you were adding on a you know something
- 14:18Speaker 6: to your house, you know, your room or something, and
- 14:21Speaker 6: you were that much over budget, forty percent over budget,
- 14:25Speaker 6: there's no way you So there's no way we were
- 14:28Speaker 6: going to do that with tax payer money. I mean,
- 14:30Speaker 6: that's just foolish. And by chopping it up and kind
- 14:35Speaker 6: of and also scaling it down a bit, we were
- 14:37Speaker 6: able to save a lot of money.

- 17:22Speaker 4: Ben Salang goes here. We'll get a call and let's
- 17:24Speaker 4: go to Joe. You're on with the commissioner.
- 17:26Speaker 7: Go ahead, yeah, thank you Dave. Yes, sir, it's your
- 17:30Speaker 7: commissioner Schlango. I had a question I ever heard of you.
- 17:34Speaker 7: There is traveling pulled off either. I listen you all
- 17:36Speaker 7: pretty regularly. But range you're talking about that you're doing
- 17:42Speaker 7: the improvements on Commissioner is out around Camp vergel Tate. Yes,
- 17:48Speaker 7: and that's part of that Camp virgil Tate County property
- 17:53Speaker 7: is donated by a tape foundation. Is that right?
- 17:55Speaker 6: Well, actually it was. And then so it was odd
- 17:58Speaker 6: that the county actually owned the part of the property
- 18:02Speaker 6: out there where the the dorms are located, and then
- 18:10Speaker 6: the Tate property, the camp Virgil Tate four h owned
- 18:14Speaker 6: the shooting range, and so we did a land swap
- 18:17Speaker 6: last year or maybe a was earlier. This year, we
- 18:19Speaker 6: did a land swap so they would own their property,
- 18:21Speaker 6: we would own our property. So that was initially correct
- 18:24Speaker 6: and then it was swapped out.
- 18:27Speaker 7: And my question is if I noticed that camp in
- 18:32Speaker 7: the area, there is a nice area for people in
- 18:34Speaker 7: the area of the community take kids out of hiking.
- 18:38Speaker 7: They do all kinds of My kids go out there
- 18:40Speaker 7: since they were for thirty five years, and I'm a
- 18:43Speaker 7: Canall County Charleston area resident, but there's not a lot
- 18:46Speaker 7: of places you can take kids, to take your dogs
- 18:48Speaker 7: to hike through the woods and stuff. And I guess
- 18:51Speaker 7: the question I have is a lot of that property
- 18:53Speaker 7: has donated, so basically you've stagnated it for public use.
- 18:58Speaker 7: And then that rangs out there a lot of time
- 19:01Speaker 7: was used as a public range, and there's not a
- 19:04Speaker 7: lot of public ranges available, so it's and when you
- 19:08Speaker 7: talk about putting in a thousand range thousand feet shooting range,
- 19:13Speaker 7: that stagnates a whole lot area around that for safety purposes.
- 19:18Speaker 7: It seems like the county has taken all this And
- 19:20Speaker 7: I'm all for law enforcement and what you're doing, but
- 19:23Speaker 7: our tax players money, plus all these foundations were set
- 19:27Speaker 7: up for one hundred years for use of the public
- 19:29Speaker 7: and recreational use. It's being taken over. When the county
- 19:33Speaker 7: if they want to do something like that, why don't
- 19:35Speaker 7: they just go buy a piece of property. There's a
- 19:37Speaker 7: lot of areas south of Charleston and all that are
- 19:40Speaker 7: isolated that would be ideal for that.
- 19:42Speaker 6: Let me ask you a question. How long have you
- 19:44Speaker 6: used that place out there to hike and with your kids?
- 19:47Speaker 6: You mentioned that. How long you been doing that?
- 19:50Speaker 7: How long? Forty years years? My kids and my grandkids
- 19:56Speaker 7: go out there routinely.
- 19:58Speaker 6: Yes, and they know there's already a shooting range there.
- 20:01Speaker 7: Right, Yeah, but the shooting range is not that big, right, it's.
- 20:06Speaker 6: The only thing that's going to change. Basically, we're taking
- 20:10Speaker 6: the existing shooting range and shoring up the part that's
- 20:15Speaker 6: falling over the hill, and then at the end of
- 20:18Speaker 6: where the horse barns used to be, there will be
- 20:21Speaker 6: a three hundred yard range at the end of that,
- 20:24Speaker 6: and then of course there's also a long gun range
- 20:26Speaker 6: on the top of that hill, and so it's basically
- 20:29Speaker 6: going to be in the same vicinity. It's not like
- 20:32Speaker 6: it's going to take over a lot more land. It's
- 20:34Speaker 6: going to be and it's not. It is Kenaw County land.
- 20:37Speaker 6: It's not like we had to go buy a piece
- 20:39Speaker 6: of property. We already owned that property.
- 20:41Speaker 7: It's going to be open to the public.
- 20:43Speaker 6: The no, that's going to be law enforcement facility. That
- 20:47Speaker 6: is going to be just for long, but we are
- 20:48Speaker 6: going to try to open up for the public to
- 20:49Speaker 6: give like kids, the opportunity to learn like proper safety
- 20:53Speaker 6: techniques and handling a firearm.
- 20:55Speaker 7: I understand that, but it was open to the public
- 20:58Speaker 7: to shoot. Now you're taking away for the public to
- 21:00Speaker 7: shoot and using for law enforcement. I understand that, but
- 21:05Speaker 7: it's plus the general public get any use out of it.
- 21:10Speaker 7: It's taken it away from them.
- 21:11Speaker 6: I'm not sure it is open for the public. I
- 21:13Speaker 6: thought it was law enforcement only. I mean, we've got
- 21:15Speaker 6: the facility out there. I've never seen a member of
- 21:17Speaker 6: the public out there shooting. I may be wrong about that,
- 21:19Speaker 6: but I've never seen I don't think it is public.
- 21:22Speaker 6: That's a law enforcement only facility and it's actually run
- 21:25Speaker 6: by the Knaw County Sheriff's Department and then other facilities
- 21:29Speaker 6: come out or other agencies come out and use it.
- 21:33Speaker 7: Before you did the landswamp, it was public, wasn't it.
- 21:36Speaker 6: No, the landswamp. See here was the problem with this
- 21:39Speaker 6: is that four H owned a owned land where a
- 21:42Speaker 6: gun range was, and it wasn't insured for any of that.
- 21:46Speaker 6: So if there was an if there was an issue, uh,
- 21:51Speaker 6: four H didn't even have the insurance for like if
- 21:55Speaker 6: there was an accident out there. And that's something we
- 21:57Speaker 6: started looking at about a year ago when had the
- 22:00Speaker 6: issue that came up with the four H was housing
- 22:05Speaker 6: at risk youth out there because the hotels had kicked
- 22:08Speaker 6: all these kids out of the facility because they were
- 22:10Speaker 6: destroying the hotel, so they were letting them use the
- 22:12Speaker 6: facility there. And then we started doing a little deeper
- 22:16Speaker 6: dive and realized that part of that facility was actually
- 22:19Speaker 6: on land we owned and we weren't properly insured for that.
- 22:24Speaker 6: And then four H actually owned the shooting range and
- 22:28Speaker 6: they weren't properly insured. So what we did was we
- 22:31Speaker 6: increased our monetary donation that we give annually to Camp
- 22:35Speaker 6: Virgil Tate and then did a land swap so that
- 22:38Speaker 6: legally we would everybody be protected and Camp virgil Tate
- 22:42Speaker 6: would have additional monies to run the park out there.
- 22:47Speaker 7: So basically, I mean it, it was open to public
- 22:51Speaker 7: and for years people have been using it. But I
- 22:54Speaker 7: guess there's not a whole lot of places for the
- 22:56Speaker 7: public to shoot in Kanall County.
- 22:58Speaker 6: That is very true. That is very true. I go
- 23:00Speaker 6: down to Kanas State Forest and it's typically packed. That's
- 23:03Speaker 6: where I usually go.
- 23:04Speaker 7: Yeah, but Cannall State Port is not cap up or maintained,
- 23:07Speaker 7: and I don't know how how well it's properly reasured
- 23:11Speaker 7: as well.
- 23:12Speaker 6: Uh No, it's state owned. It's state owned facility.
- 23:16Speaker 7: So so I guess the question is for public shooting
- 23:19Speaker 7: ranges and all that was one that could have been
- 23:23Speaker 7: available for the public and improved, and it's getting it's
- 23:25Speaker 7: getting more and more or less available, uh, for people
- 23:29Speaker 7: to have a place to shoot deer season. We have
- 23:31Speaker 7: a lot of sportsmen in West Virginia and Kenall County
- 23:35Speaker 7: proper and there's no place for them to go and
- 23:38Speaker 7: and and partake or shoot.
- 23:41Speaker 6: There are actually a lot there are other ranges. There
- 23:44Speaker 6: are some that you can you have to belong to,
- 23:46Speaker 6: like f OP ranges, and then there's some additional where
- 23:48Speaker 6: you can actually get in. You just have to be
- 23:50Speaker 6: a membership fee, and that's what they used to like
- 23:52Speaker 6: clean it up and to uh make improvements at the facility.
- 23:56Speaker 6: But I don't recall the one that can resitate ever
- 23:59Speaker 6: being at least during my time on the Commission a
- 24:02Speaker 6: public range, it was always always law enforcement, and it's
- 24:05Speaker 6: always there's typically a waiting time to go out there
- 24:08Speaker 6: for law enforcem So they have to sit out there
- 24:10Speaker 6: and wait for an hour just to get a lane
- 24:12Speaker 6: open so they can go shoot.
- 24:15Speaker 7: I can't vergetate, yes, and who else is shooting there
- 24:19Speaker 7: when you have to wait for a lane?
- 24:21Speaker 6: Law enforcement? There are forty three agencies that use that,
- 24:23Speaker 6: I mean every municipality, the state police, the FBI, you name,
- 24:28Speaker 6: if they're out there using it, sheriff's department obviously, So
- 24:32Speaker 6: why are they not using the range? Some of them do?
- 24:36Speaker 6: Some of them do. Yeah, the municipalities sometimes use the fopiece.
- 24:40Speaker 7: So what would I mean this is probably a very
- 24:47Speaker 7: request that when that would probably come to fruition. So
- 24:51Speaker 7: what do you think the County Commission will ever try
- 24:53Speaker 7: to make up and invest in a public range for
- 24:57Speaker 7: the public.
- 24:59Speaker 6: Potentially potentially, I mean we'd have to find the space.
- 25:02Speaker 6: But what we were trying to do is take a
- 25:06Speaker 6: law enforcement shooting range, one that exists now, and to
- 25:10Speaker 6: upgrade it because there were a lot of safety issues
- 25:12Speaker 6: out there, and if you have been out there, you've
- 25:15Speaker 6: seen them. I mean there's one platform that probably six
- 25:20Speaker 6: feet of it doesn't have earth underneath. It's just concrete
- 25:23Speaker 6: kind of hanging over a hill exposed, and you get
- 25:26Speaker 6: the right person step on that and they're going to
- 25:27Speaker 6: roll over the hill potentially with a firearm on their hand.
- 25:30Speaker 6: And so we took an existing law enforcement shooting range
- 25:34Speaker 6: and upgrade it. That's what we've done. We've made it better.
- 25:38Speaker 2: You know.
- 25:38Speaker 6: MY goal is to make sure that we have properly
- 25:42Speaker 6: trained and properly equipped law enforcement. And I know they
- 25:45Speaker 6: appreciate it. I promise you that their families appreciate it.
- 25:48Speaker 6: And I want to make sure that they're out there
- 25:50Speaker 6: using this range and making sure that all the agencies
- 25:55Speaker 6: are able to use this range.
- 25:58Speaker 7: We don't have a lot of time. I appreciate yourself
- 26:00Speaker 7: on that and I support our family. There's law enforcement.
- 26:02Speaker 7: I support that one hundred percent.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Give me thirty seconds joke, because we got to move on.
- 26:05Speaker 4: Give me thirty seconds, go ahead.
- 26:07Speaker 7: The other thing is those fields out there and everything
- 26:09Speaker 7: used for recreational purposes and everything. You're going to have
- 26:12Speaker 7: an increased traffic going out through there, and I've all
- 26:16Speaker 7: been run off the road. My kids go out there
- 26:18Speaker 7: and take my grandkids out there to use the field
- 26:21Speaker 7: to recreate in and stuff around the tape the ball
- 26:24Speaker 7: fields there. What can you do to ensure that the
- 26:26Speaker 7: traffic going in there once you cross that bridge down there,
- 26:29Speaker 7: some communities down here there and everything to have kids
- 26:31Speaker 7: out walking. I think it's twenty five mile on our
- 26:33Speaker 7: speed limit. It's it's awful tough, and you have to
- 26:35Speaker 7: be law enforcement coming through there wide open forty.
- 26:38Speaker 6: Five miles now, well, we've certainly had know. We've let
- 26:41Speaker 6: the sheriff know because somebody else complained about that a
- 26:43Speaker 6: couple of weeks ago that there was I guess some
- 26:46Speaker 6: of the cruisers were speeding down through there. We've asked
- 26:48Speaker 6: them to slow it down.
- 26:49Speaker 7: So when we do, can you put some speed bumps
- 26:52Speaker 7: in there to slow the traffic down in that community
- 26:54Speaker 7: and people coming in out there with their kids and stuff.
- 26:56Speaker 6: I'm not opposed to looking at that. Yeah, I mean
- 26:58Speaker 6: we could probably do some speed bumps.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Joe. We appreciate your phone call. Thanks a lot, a lot,
- 27:02Speaker 4: a lot a lot of info in there for and
- 27:04Speaker 4: I appreciate you taking this phone call there. He obviously
- 27:06Speaker 4: had some concerns.
- 27:07Speaker 6: So no, I mean, listen, I can't go to Walmart
- 27:09Speaker 6: without somebody stopping ask you a question. I'll take him
- 27:11Speaker 6: live on the air. I've never shied away from a question, Dave.
- 27:14Speaker 4: All right, I want to ask you about the security
- 27:16Speaker 4: updates to the Shawnee Sports Complex. Gonna get a couple
- 27:18Speaker 4: more things, and we got to get you down the
- 27:19Speaker 4: road here. There were some security uh updates that were
- 27:23Speaker 4: recently announced.
- 27:24Speaker 6: Yeah. You know, one of one of the problems we've
- 27:26Speaker 6: had out there is we've got how do I phrase this,
- 27:31Speaker 6: I wouldn't say necessarily unruly, but excited, a very excited
- 27:35Speaker 6: parents who sometimes will uh uh get a little mouthy,
- 27:41Speaker 6: and I'll call him on on occasion they they have
- 27:45Speaker 6: gotten violent and so over kids, sports, kids, sports, and
- 27:49Speaker 6: that happens. I mean, you know it, It's not just
- 27:51Speaker 6: Shanny is all like, no, it goes the culture over
- 27:54Speaker 6: the country. And uh so we we made a step
- 27:57Speaker 6: forward and said, wait a minute, if you've got some
- 28:00Speaker 6: repeat bad actors, then we came up with a process
- 28:03Speaker 6: to basically ban them from the facility. I hope we
- 28:06Speaker 6: don't have to use this, I really do. But we
- 28:09Speaker 6: had an incident out there a few weeks ago where
- 28:12Speaker 6: people got in an argument and one guy pulled out
- 28:14Speaker 6: a knife. He's done, like, he won't ever be back
- 28:18Speaker 6: in that facility. I don't care if he's you know,
- 28:20Speaker 6: fifty years from now, he's not coming back.
- 28:22Speaker 4: Are you at liberty to I mean, we don't want
- 28:24Speaker 4: to discuss. But was it somebody that was local or local?
- 28:27Speaker 6: Absolutely local. It was more of a domestic issue than
- 28:29Speaker 6: it was over kids' sports. But if you if you
- 28:31Speaker 6: come out there and you're going to be violent, you're
- 28:33Speaker 6: going to be asked to leave and then we're going
- 28:35Speaker 6: to enforce this new policy. So if it's just somebody,
- 28:39Speaker 6: this is not just a case. You know, this is
- 28:41Speaker 6: not for people that are out there chirping. And we
- 28:43Speaker 6: get that, you know, people that are mad or recall
- 28:45Speaker 6: and maybe they say something, but this is this is
- 28:48Speaker 6: when they take it a step too far. They're waiting
- 28:51Speaker 6: on the ref afterwards, they're you know, going over into
- 28:54Speaker 6: the stands, causing trouble. They're this is for that escalated
- 28:58Speaker 6: incident where quite frankly, kids shouldn't be subjected to it.
- 29:03Speaker 6: People shouldn't be subjected to it. So we're we came
- 29:05Speaker 6: up with this policy. It's getting a lot of good.
- 29:08Speaker 6: I mean, other facilities are contacting us saying, wow, we
- 29:10Speaker 6: did know this. Commission Wheeler came on midday, was talking
- 29:13Speaker 6: about that last week. Yeah, so we've got if this
- 29:16Speaker 6: was a private facility, like if it was just owned
- 29:18Speaker 6: by you or me or whoever, we could kick them out.
- 29:20Speaker 6: But because it's public, we have to have due process rights,
- 29:23Speaker 6: and so we've done a procedure where they will get
- 29:26Speaker 6: an initial notice that they're not allowed back in the facility,
- 29:29Speaker 6: either for you know a matter of months or years
- 29:31Speaker 6: or a permanent band depending on how violent it is,
- 29:34Speaker 6: and then they can come in from the Commission and
- 29:36Speaker 6: plead their case. They actually have an appeal right, a
- 29:38Speaker 6: thirty day appeal right. They can come in and say, hey,
- 29:41Speaker 6: you know what I did X y Z BO cause
- 29:43Speaker 6: of or it was a misunderstanding and of course, we'll
- 29:46Speaker 6: have video there showing and they can they can make
- 29:49Speaker 6: their appeal. So that's that's the that's the new procedure
- 29:52Speaker 6: we've got to take. We've got to do something to
- 29:57Speaker 6: let people know that that's not appropriate, it's not probate. Well,
- 30:00Speaker 6: you know, we have trouble getting referees now, sure.
- 30:03Speaker 4: And not just it shawnee. No, I mean I mean,
- 30:05Speaker 4: are you gonna do it? I mean, are you going
- 30:07Speaker 4: to be a referee. I can stay home, I can
- 30:09Speaker 4: stay home and get yelled at. I don't have to
- 30:11Speaker 4: put on a striped shirt to do that.
- 30:13Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 30:13Speaker 6: No, we've had a lot of trouble getting refs, and
- 30:15Speaker 6: so we're going to try to do more to protect
- 30:17Speaker 6: the coaches, protect the rest, protect the other spectators.
- 30:20Speaker 4: All Right, somebody asked about that incident. I know you're
- 30:24Speaker 4: not at liberty to discuss all of it, but was
- 30:27Speaker 4: the person arrested the person with the knife was.
- 30:29Speaker 6: Arrest Yes, yeah, there is some grainy video footage the
- 30:32Speaker 6: person was arrested, but there are also like ten eye witnesses. Okay,
- 30:36Speaker 6: so that person is arrested and is going to be prosecuted.
- 30:39Speaker 6: I understand it, all right, all right, So let me
- 30:42Speaker 6: read this one. A new training facility for police. One
- 30:46Speaker 6: I'm reading the taxtban one that has.
- 30:49Speaker 4: Urban warfare training, shooting out of cars in a three
- 30:52Speaker 4: hundred yard range, one that Ice gets trained on as well.
- 30:55Speaker 4: Can't wait untill Ice is trained up on drive bys
- 30:57Speaker 4: urban assault tactics, all while having the overwatch of a
- 30:59Speaker 4: t sniper. Ben is facilitating the training of Trump's gestapo.
- 31:04Speaker 6: That seems a bit dramatic. Okay, Oh, it gets better.
- 31:07Speaker 4: When is Ben switching to Republican? Pretty sure? Ice isn't
- 31:10Speaker 4: an organization democrats support.
- 31:12Speaker 6: Well, I tell you what, I don't care what political
- 31:13Speaker 6: affiliation you are. If you're not supporting your local law enforcement,
- 31:16Speaker 6: then then you're the problem. It's not them, it's it's
- 31:19Speaker 6: a U problem. And just like I told Joe, you know,
- 31:22Speaker 6: if he wants to and he called it a sales pitch,
- 31:24Speaker 6: it's not. You know, my had family and law enforcement
- 31:26Speaker 6: as well. I think the more that we can do
- 31:29Speaker 6: to make sure that they're properly trained, they definitely appreciate it.
- 31:33Speaker 6: And this is not some political conspiracy.
- 31:37Speaker 4: But do if we had a question here about the
- 31:40Speaker 4: I promise I'll let you go because you got to
- 31:41Speaker 4: get down the street here about the people paying to
- 31:45Speaker 4: use the facility. There's a law enforcement agencies pay to
- 31:47Speaker 4: use the facilities.
- 31:47Speaker 6: Some of them do, yeah, they and I forget what
- 31:50Speaker 6: the rate is, but they do pay a monthly rate,
- 31:52Speaker 6: and that's for upkeep of the facility. Okay, you know,
- 31:55Speaker 6: changing out targets and trying to do as much as
- 31:58Speaker 6: we can to upgrade the facility. But it is in disrepair.
- 32:02Speaker 6: It really is, and I think if people were out
- 32:04Speaker 6: there they would see just how bad some of it is.
- 32:07Speaker 6: And when I went out there and we started talking
- 32:10Speaker 6: about the limitations of the current facility and just kind
- 32:13Speaker 6: of expanding part of it. That's what brought this up.
- 32:16Speaker 6: When we had we did some overhead drone views just
- 32:21Speaker 6: to see exactly what we were able to expand and
- 32:23Speaker 6: trying to keep it within that same general footprint, but
- 32:27Speaker 6: just make it more more usable.
- 32:30Speaker 4: All right. A couple of weeks away we got trick
- 32:32Speaker 4: or beat going. I know that your law firm, Saving
- 32:34Speaker 4: Away from the County Commission is sponsoring that. Thank you
- 32:36Speaker 4: so much. Tickets are available here at our station. They're free, okay,
- 32:40Speaker 4: but you do have to come by the station to
- 32:42Speaker 4: pick up the tickets during normal business hours Monday through Friday,
- 32:46Speaker 4: you know, eight thirty to five. Again, they're free, but
- 32:49Speaker 4: you do have to pick up the tickets, and they
- 32:51Speaker 4: do sell out. I mean, I know, you can't really
- 32:53Speaker 4: call it sell out if they're free. But we run
- 32:54Speaker 4: out because run of spacing limitation.
- 32:57Speaker 7: You know, we ran out.
- 32:58Speaker 6: I ran out of candy last year. That's how many
- 32:59Speaker 6: kids come to this. There were, I mean there were thousand,
- 33:01Speaker 6: three thousand, three thousand kids. I took in a truckload,
- 33:04Speaker 6: a literal truckload of candy. Again, ran out towards the
- 33:06Speaker 6: end in the second session and had to go get more.
- 33:10Speaker 6: But it's it's a very popular event. We have lots
- 33:12Speaker 6: and lots of kids there. The tickets are free, and
- 33:16Speaker 6: so if you see somebody scalp them them, don't pay,
- 33:19Speaker 6: just come over here to the station and pick them up.
- 33:21Speaker 6: There are two different sessions. It's October twenty eighth and
- 33:24Speaker 6: it's at Gomart Park over there and also good event.
- 33:27Speaker 4: That's also the site for the Light to Night, which
- 33:31Speaker 4: is going to be coming up over to Ballpark November
- 33:34Speaker 4: twenty first through January the first gets your tickets for
- 33:36Speaker 4: that in advance by visiting Dblightthnight dot com.
- 33:38Speaker 6: That's right. And if you're drive by, you'll see they've
- 33:40Speaker 6: been putting up lights now for about a month. As
- 33:42Speaker 6: soon as the baseball season ended, they started putting lights up.
- 33:44Speaker 6: We're gonna have two and a half million lights. We're
- 33:45Speaker 6: gonna have the skating rink, We're gonna have some additional attractions.
- 33:49Speaker 6: Book your corporate parties, you know, call over and talk
- 33:51Speaker 6: to Andy or George. You know, you can do corporate
- 33:55Speaker 6: parties over there. They have different suites so if it
- 33:57Speaker 6: is cold, you actually have a little place to go in,
- 33:59Speaker 6: but you can do a corporate event and then go
- 34:01Speaker 6: out and go through the lights and ice skate and
- 34:04Speaker 6: do whatever you want. But it's a great place for
- 34:07Speaker 6: corporate events, birthday parties, those types of All.
- 34:09Speaker 4: Right, and did you have something going back to Halloween
- 34:11Speaker 4: for a moment out at the Shawnee.
- 34:12Speaker 6: Sports Yeah, I forgot about that. The Shawnee Spooktacular October thirty.
- 34:16Speaker 6: If you jump on the Shawnee Sports Complex Facebook page,
- 34:19Speaker 6: you'll see that we are taking in vendors. There's no
- 34:23Speaker 6: charge and there's no charge for the kids. But if
- 34:25Speaker 6: you want to be a vendor, you just fill out
- 34:27Speaker 6: the form. If we want to promote your company, you
- 34:29Speaker 6: can come out and give away some candy. But that's
- 34:31Speaker 6: always well attended to. It's all always weather dependent. But
- 34:36Speaker 6: you know, if we have good weather, there'll be tons
- 34:37Speaker 6: of kids out there. One year I went out there
- 34:39Speaker 6: in the rain. It was still a lot of kids.
- 34:40Speaker 6: But you know, you can fill out your vendor form,
- 34:42Speaker 6: come out, give out some candy, and bring the kids
- 34:45Speaker 6: over October thirty. All that information is on the Kenaw
- 34:48Speaker 6: County Facebook page and also the Shawne Sports Complex Facebook page.
- 34:51Speaker 4: All right, somebody asked about going back to over to
- 34:54Speaker 4: the ballpark. They ever considered doing a Hounted house or
- 34:56Speaker 4: hanted trail on the field at the ballpark. I think
- 34:59Speaker 4: it probably probably be a question better answered by Andy.
- 35:02Speaker 4: I don't know about that. Andy and Jill on it.
- 35:03Speaker 6: It's a funny whoever sent that in you're you must
- 35:06Speaker 6: be like reading my text, because that's exactly what I
- 35:09Speaker 6: want to do next year. Okay, I want to do,
- 35:11Speaker 6: but there's it's hard to It's hard to do that
- 35:14Speaker 6: because it's so close to the Light the Night event
- 35:17Speaker 6: which starts in you know, mid to late November. Uh,
- 35:20Speaker 6: it would take a lot of effort to get that
- 35:23Speaker 6: haunted trail up and then have and also be able
- 35:25Speaker 6: to do the lights around it.
- 35:27Speaker 11: Uh.
- 35:27Speaker 4: But good idea in theory. It is a it's a
- 35:29Speaker 4: great idea and it would be very very popular. Jay

- 42:26Speaker 4: if you're listening, get an idea for you that this
- 42:29Speaker 4: texture does. I still think refurbishing the unused portable classrooms
- 42:32Speaker 4: to help with shelter overflows all over the state would
- 42:35Speaker 4: make a huge impact. We have such a kind of
- 42:37Speaker 4: generous community of business owners, contractors and citizens who I believe,
- 42:40Speaker 4: if explained the goal and asked to help, would not
- 42:42Speaker 4: hesitate to volunteer time, supplies and funds to repurpose the
- 42:45Speaker 4: insides of those buildings to make them fit for animals.
- 42:48Speaker 4: So many have to be turned away, and sadly we
- 42:50Speaker 4: still have shelters in the say that euthanized to make room.
- 42:53Speaker 4: This could end that. Please consider that. I will make sure.
- 42:56Speaker 4: If he's not, I don't know if he was heading

- 47:08Speaker 4: As if it weren't complicated enough already. Judge Michael Froebel
- 47:11Speaker 4: will not enter a final written order about the class
- 47:14Speaker 4: certification for another week or so, and the overall final
- 47:17Speaker 4: order is not going to come till the end of November,
- 47:20Speaker 4: leaving everybody kind of in a state of whatever until
- 47:25Speaker 4: that time. It's a very, very complicated. I don't pretend
- 47:28Speaker 4: to understand it. Brad Michael Henney does write about it
- 47:31Speaker 4: lead story this morning wv Metronews dot com, and he's
- 47:33Speaker 4: actually gonna join us during the two o'clock hour on
- 47:36Speaker 4: Metro News Midday today to explain it a whole lot
- 47:39Speaker 4: better than I could. I also say this, if you
- 47:43Speaker 4: didn't catch Midday yesterday, well then shame on you. You
- 47:45Speaker 4: need to go back and listen to it. On the
- 47:48Speaker 4: show yesterday, we had the new Rabbi I've ben a
- 47:51Speaker 4: Jacob here in Charleston, Adam Berman, who's got a very
- 47:54Speaker 4: unique perspective on Gozam, the hostages and so on and
- 47:59Speaker 4: so forth, because he was actually living in Israel on
- 48:02Speaker 4: October seventh when that occurred, and he knew several people
- 48:06Speaker 4: who were killed on that day back in twenty twenty three,
- 48:09Speaker 4: when the fighting really escalated. I mean it was going on,
- 48:12Speaker 4: but it really escalated. Then go back and listen to
- 48:14Speaker 4: the show, and then Jeff Jenkins wrote a story about
- 48:16Speaker 4: it this morning. It's posted at wv metronews dot com.
- 48:21Speaker 4: Texas's suspicable how desperate Democrats are trying, with their darkness
- 48:25Speaker 4: to give Biden the credit for any of this war
- 48:27Speaker 4: and freeing the hostages? G Could it be? Could it be?
- 48:31Speaker 4: Because they want to try it to get us all
- 48:32Speaker 4: to forget how badly Joe completely destroyed Trump's Afghanistan withdrawal policies.
- 48:38Speaker 6: Texas Day.
- 48:39Speaker 4: Ben will never be governor in West Virginia because he
- 48:41Speaker 4: aligns himself to the Democratic National Party. Ben has done
- 48:43Speaker 4: a lot of great things for our communities and states.
- 48:47Speaker 4: Bigley Piggley Wiggly hotline three zero four three four five
- 48:49Speaker 4: fifty eight fifty eight Tony the Taylor Text three zero
- 48:52Speaker 4: four nine three five five zero zero and ask you
- 48:54Speaker 4: this question real quick. Are we getting dumber? Well, there's
- 48:59Speaker 4: a very unique I thought it very interesting. Unique's not
- 49:03Speaker 4: the right, We're very interesting. Op ed in the Gazette
- 49:06Speaker 4: mail this morning, and it looks at it was a
- 49:10Speaker 4: study conducted by Microsoft and Carnegie Mellon University, and it
- 49:14Speaker 4: found out workers who rely heavily on AI suffer a
- 49:18Speaker 4: decline and critical thinking. Now, this was also done on
- 49:21Speaker 4: the quantum in reporting the quantum record. Studies show that
- 49:26Speaker 4: students who rely on AI tender form more poorly on
- 49:29Speaker 4: tests and the problem is actually getting worse. Continuing engagement
- 49:35Speaker 4: with AI and social media platforms deprives attention, says the
- 49:40Speaker 4: study for more traditional forms of learning. This is what
- 49:44Speaker 4: I found interesting, and this actually goes a little bit
- 49:47Speaker 4: before AI. Most of this research course is new, but
- 49:51Speaker 4: there is a differite correlation between high technology and declining
- 49:56Speaker 4: cognitive skills. It showed those that had achieved higher levels
- 50:02Speaker 4: of education were less likely to find their thinking dulled
- 50:05Speaker 4: by using a I. I just for some reason, I
- 50:08Speaker 4: just thought that was it was fascinating. There was another
- 50:11Speaker 4: study done by Northwestern University showing that I accused declde
- 50:15Speaker 4: in the early twenty and twenty tens, particularly in the
- 50:18Speaker 4: areas of verbal reasoning, matrix reasoning, so on and so forth.
- 50:24Speaker 4: And it's the first time I accus in America have
- 50:29Speaker 4: trended down after a nearly century of the obvious or
- 50:35Speaker 4: century of not declining. I should say kind of obvious
- 50:39Speaker 4: to me as to why I cus are going down.
- 50:43Speaker 4: Mister meadows back from vacation. Did you rest up a
- 50:47Speaker 4: little bit, bunny?
- 50:47Speaker 6: I did.
- 50:48Speaker 4: Did you shoot some golfs? We played top golf? Okay,
- 50:51Speaker 4: all right, we did that with the kids.
- 50:52Speaker 6: I didn't go, of course, did you.
- 50:54Speaker 4: I don't know if you read that, you heard me
- 50:56Speaker 4: reference and they just wanted in the studio. There was
- 50:58Speaker 4: an op ed in the gazette this morning where they
- 51:00Speaker 4: they actually called upon some other studies, Carnegie, Mellon and
- 51:02Speaker 4: so on and so forth, And you can one portion
- 51:06Speaker 4: of it, TJ was about AI, okay, but a bigger
- 51:10Speaker 4: portion shows that our IQs have been declining in America
- 51:13Speaker 4: since the early two thousands. Oh what prey tale came
- 51:16Speaker 4: around and became popular in the early two thousands? Was
- 51:21Speaker 4: it the iPhone?
- 51:23Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 51:24Speaker 4: And social media and social media there you go.
- 51:27Speaker 16: Look, if you don't use your brain at rots, right,
- 51:30Speaker 16: I mean no, I would say this. I think AI
- 51:34Speaker 16: can be a great tool to sharpen your brain if.
- 51:37Speaker 4: You if you're more educated. According to the study, if
- 51:40Speaker 4: you're more educated, you're less likely to suffer the bad
- 51:45Speaker 4: effects of AI. That's what they're saying.
- 51:47Speaker 6: I could see that.
- 51:47Speaker 4: But a bigger picture to me than AI, though, is
- 51:51Speaker 4: going back to the early two thousands, first generation that's
- 51:54Speaker 4: actually getting dumber, and why are we getting dumber? M
- 51:58Speaker 4: social media iPhones.
- 52:01Speaker 16: There's a lot to go into there in like sixty seconds.
- 52:04Speaker 16: But do I feel like we don't teach kids how
- 52:09Speaker 16: to think critically today as well? Yes, I absolutely feel
- 52:13Speaker 16: we are missing the elements of critical thinking and the
- 52:16Speaker 16: importance of teaching our children to think critically.
- 52:18Speaker 4: And that's not all on the teachers. That's also on
- 52:20Speaker 4: Mam and dad starts with mom and dad, then it
- 52:22Speaker 4: goes all right, absolutely, mister Meadows. Quickly, what you got
- 52:25Speaker 4: coming up on the SHOWDA to talk line Riley Moore

- 52:39Speaker 4: went back and he took some shots, a spirited debates
- 52:42Speaker 4: anything like that. All right, hopefully not it won't be.
- 52:46Speaker 4: I'm sure you guys are both the gentlemen. Well, at
- 52:48Speaker 4: least he is. All right, jeez, I don't know why
