- 0:12Hello friends, it's shown here. It is Tuesday, it is the 22nd of
- 0:17August, and it is time to put down whatever busyness you have
- 0:22in your day and join me as we read together another chapter of
- 0:26God's Word. And yes, after we've read the
- 0:29Bible, the bird song will break forth as we pray and head out
- 0:32into our days. And let's just set the record
- 0:35straight. A few of you over the weekend
- 0:37said to me, Sean, those birds that that's recording from like
- 0:41YouTube or something is that. No, no, that is definitely birds
- 0:45from my place. Birds that I recorded just
- 0:47outside the dining room. We live in some beautiful forest
- 0:52and all around us the bird life is fantastic in the mornings.
- 0:56So that is the sound of the birds of the Tasmanian wet
- 1:00Sclerophyl forest. I think that's what it's called.
- 1:04Yep, I think that is forest of Tasmania.
- 1:06Waking up in the morning to draw you up and out into the day with
- 1:12me. And that is all I'm going to say
- 1:15about birds. Because it is time for us to
- 1:18read another chapter together. And today the people continue to
- 1:23praise God for His faithfulness to them as we read together.
- 1:27Isaiah chapter 26. In that day, everyone in the
- 1:42land of Judah will sing this song.
- 1:45Our city is strong. We are surrounded by the walls
- 1:50of God's salvation. Open the gates to all who are
- 1:54righteous. Allow the faithful to enter.
- 1:57You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you.
- 2:01All his thoughts are fixed on you.
- 2:03Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal
- 2:07rock. He humbles the proud and brings
- 2:11down the arrogant city. He brings it down to the dust,
- 2:15The poor and depressed trample it under foot, and the needy
- 2:19walk all over it. But for those who are righteous,
- 2:24the way is not steep and rough. You are a God who does what is
- 2:29right, and you smooth out the path ahead of them.
- 2:32Lord, we show our trust in you by obeying your laws.
- 2:37Our heart's desire is to glorify your name.
- 2:41In the night I search for you. In the morning, I earnestly seek
- 2:45you. For only when you come to judge
- 2:48the earth will people learn what is right.
- 2:51Your kindness to the wicked does not make them do good.
- 2:55Although others do right, the wicked keep doing wrong and take
- 2:59no notice of the Lord's majesty. Oh Lord, they pay no attention
- 3:04to your upraised fist. Show them your eagerness to
- 3:08defend your people. Then they will be ashamed.
- 3:12Let your fire consume your enemies.
- 3:15Lord, you will grant us peace. All we have accomplished is
- 3:20really from you, Oh Lord our God.
- 3:23Others have ruled us, but you alone are the one we worship.
- 3:27Those we served before are dead and gone.
- 3:31Their departed spirits will never return.
- 3:33You attacked them and destroyed them, and they are long
- 3:37forgotten. Oh, Lord, you have made our
- 3:40nation great. Yes, you have made us great.
- 3:45You've extended our borders, and we give you the glory.
- 3:49Lord, in distress, we searched for you.
- 3:52We prayed beneath the burden of your discipline.
- 3:55Just as a pregnant woman writhes and cries out in pain, and she
- 3:59gives birth, so were we in your presence.
- 4:02Lord, we too writhe in agony, but nothing comes of our
- 4:07suffering. We have not given salvation to
- 4:10the earth, nor brought life into the world.
- 4:13But those who die in the Lord will live.
- 4:16Their bodies will rise again. Those who sleep in the earth
- 4:20will rise up and sing for joy. For your life giving light will
- 4:25fall like Jew on your people in the place of the dead.
- 4:30Go home, my people, and lock your doors.
- 4:33Hide yourselves for a little while until the Lord's anger has
- 4:37passed. Look, the Lord is coming from
- 4:41heaven to punish the people of the earth for their sins.
- 4:45The earth will no longer hide those who have been killed.
- 4:48They will be brought out for all to see.
- 5:01Our Lord, we hear in Isaiah's words such a timely reminder
- 5:06that everything that happens is according to your will, this
- 5:12life that we live. This is your life that you have
- 5:16gifted to us, and that each day, as we go about doing what we do,
- 5:22we do this as part of your story.
- 5:27So today, Lord, I pray that you would sharpen our hearts so that
- 5:32we would see with our hearts you and your presence and not with
- 5:38our eyes all the the seemingly important things around us.
- 5:44We are yours and you are our God, and we worship you.
- 5:47And we look forward to the day when we see you face to face.
- 5:53Thank you for your provision for us today, Lord, we pray all of
- 5:58this in your name, Jesus. Amen.
