- 2:12worldview.
- 2:13Thank you, sir.

- 2:34Christians, foundations and faith and foundational truth.
- 2:38Brother, you've been busy, Israel Wayne.
- 2:40Good to see you.
- 2:41Thanks for coming on the program.
- 2:43As always, it's great to be back on your show.
- 2:45Yeah, good to see you.
- 2:46And I want to thank master books, master books catalog the curriculum.
- 2:51They sent me this.
- 2:52I was going through this and you, of course, you've got a brand new book, right?
- 2:56On the inside cover, here inside pages, there are a lot of amazing resources in this
- 3:02catalog.
- 3:03And I've glad for you to just mention a few words because you've published with them several
- 3:07books now.
- 3:08Yeah, I've been working with master books for about 11 years and they are one of the world's
- 3:13largest creation publishers, apologetics publishers, but they got into doing homeschool
- 3:19curriculum about 11 years ago and have a full K 12 homeschool curriculum, which is really
- 3:25wonderful.
- 3:26My family uses it and we appreciate what they do.
- 3:30And they are committed to biblical authority and they have great integrity.
- 3:37And I have really enjoyed the last decade or so working with master books.
- 3:41If you haven't checked out their website, do so.
- 3:44It's masterbooks.com and they also have an app.
- 3:47So for homeschoolers who want to plug into a homeschool community, just look up masterbooks
- 3:52app and you can join discussions and learn all kinds of great, they have freebies and all
- 3:57kinds of fun things on the app.
- 3:59So Israel, your book, first of all, let's talk about family renewal dot or you've got
- 4:03three different websites.
- 4:04You can, of course, friends can go to Israel Wayne dot com.
- 4:08The other one that we really like, Christian world view dot net and it's right on the home
- 4:12page.
- 4:13What is a biblical world view?
- 4:16Everyone has a world view and then of course family renewal.
- 4:19Now that's your main site and people can get to your books by going to the store there
- 4:24at family renewal dot org.
- 4:26So just tell us a little bit about your background and because this is the first time we've had
- 4:31you on this show, we've got a lot of newer viewers and we're constantly gaining, growing
- 4:35the audience, praise God.
- 4:37And so just share a little bit about your background and family renewal.
- 4:40Well, I was homeschooled as a student.
- 4:43My mom was one of the pioneers of the homeschool movement back in the 1970s and 80s.
- 4:49And so I grew up in that world.
- 4:50I started working for a publishing company that she founded.
- 4:55She was one of the founders of a longest running Christian homeschool magazines in the
- 5:00country.
- 5:01And so I worked for her publishing company for 20 years.
- 5:05And then about 11 years ago, I just went full time into writing and speaking and I have
- 5:10really enjoyed that.
- 5:11I've been speaking at conferences for over 30 years and just enjoy getting to work with
- 5:17families.
- 5:18We talk a lot about marriage and parenting and Christian education, apologetics, biblical
- 5:22world view.
- 5:23My wife and I have been married over 25 years.
- 5:25We have 11 children ages 24 down to three and we have six, six girls and five boys.
- 5:33So obviously we are definitely in the deep end of the parenting pool.
- 5:38So to speak with all that and I have four teenagers living in my house right now.
- 5:43If that tells you something about my life, but it's a blessing and we get to travel.
- 5:48In fact, this last weekend, I was speaking at the Illinois State Homeschool Conference
- 5:52and my whole family was able to be there.
- 5:54The young ones who are still at home and we were all over there together as a family.
- 5:59And so I love that we get to travel as a family and speak around the country and it's just
- 6:04been delightful.
- 6:05Yeah.
- 6:06God's using you big time brother.
- 6:07But 24 down to three, that is a vast spread out of years and ages and what an amazing.
- 6:16Did you say six and five, yes, six girls and five boys?
- 6:19Wow, may praise God.
- 6:23So let's get to your book and that's why we're having you on because it's so well done.
- 6:27I went through this friends, they were kind enough to send me a copy.
- 6:31So many great questions answered and there's definitions, just there's scripture checklists
- 6:37and everyone has a prayer for the week after every one of them.
- 6:42But I want to start with the word catechism is real because the book is called foundational
- 6:47truths, a modern catechism answering the essential questions of Christianity.
- 6:53Well, this is interesting because for those not familiar with the term catechism, some
- 7:00people might think it's just that's denominational or it's just a Catholic term, but just share
- 7:05why you decided to put a modern catechism on the subtitle.
- 7:11So catechism simply means question and answer.
- 7:15And so when we talk about catechism, it's a means or a method of teaching that utilizes
- 7:20the question answer format.
- 7:22And the church used catechism to teach Bible doctrine and theology for centuries.
- 7:27In fact, the very first Protestant catechism was written by Martin Luther and every Protestant
- 7:34and evangelical denomination used the catechism until about 100 years ago.
- 7:41Some still do, but every church did until about 100 years ago when denominational publishing
- 7:48houses started just putting out their own Sunday school materials, which kind of overshadowed
- 7:53the catechism approach.
- 7:56But I have always felt that there's a benefit in some of the methodology that stood the test
- 8:02of time, if you will, and the approach of asking important vital Bible doctrine questions
- 8:09has been used by churches for new believers in those classes, as well as with children.
- 8:16And I felt like it was time for us to get back to that approach, but to do so in a fresh
- 8:21way.
- 8:22So this catechism is different in that it's not published by particular denomination.
- 8:27It's not pushing a particular sectarian viewpoint.
- 8:31It really is just simply asking the 52 top Bible doctrine questions and answering them
- 8:37as much as possible directly from the scripture itself.
- 8:42And very thorough answer.
- 8:43Thank you.
- 8:44And I just think of your other website, ChristianWorldView.net.
- 8:48You're taking the biblical approach to answer life's tough questions or questions is about
- 8:53the Bible theology.
- 8:54And I had to go back and look up just information on catechisms.
- 8:57And I didn't realize, I mean, even in it says, the need arose in England after King Henry
- 9:03the eighth broke with the Church of Rome in 1536 and the 1545 convening of the Council
- 9:11of Trent.
- 9:12I've talked about all these different catechisms, all these different councils mentions the
- 9:17Westminster Confession of Faith.
- 9:19And so thank you for clarifying that because we need to just understand just because we
- 9:25don't hear that word a lot in evangelical churches or in our, you know, modern language.
- 9:29We don't hear catechism a lot, but that's very, it's a very good because it's question
- 9:34answers.
- 9:35So the next thing I wanted to ask you, when you had, when you were writing this book,
- 9:39who did you have in mind and what did you want the outcome of this particular book answering
- 9:44essential questions for anybody, for children, for families, for seekers?
- 9:51Just share your thoughts on that.
- 9:53Well, I had two groups in mind, my, my, my, the center of the target, if you will, for
- 10:00me was to see fathers and mothers open this up in the living room with their children and
- 10:06do this in the home as a family discipleship resource.
- 10:11That was my number one goal because I think that's the best way to be able to pass on the
- 10:17faith is multi generationally.
- 10:20Just discipling their own children and making sure that their children really understand
- 10:24the Christian faith.
- 10:26So that was my primary goal.
- 10:28And then the second thing was I told the publisher and then when we design it, let's please
- 10:32try not to design it in a way that is childish because I believe this could work in a number
- 10:37of other formats as well.
- 10:39And it has been used in so many places already.
- 10:41In fact, the church and I'm a part of has a jail ministry and they're actually using it
- 10:46in the jail ministry, which is really powerful.
- 10:48And so there are new believers who come into churches that they're using this in new
- 10:53believers classes and adult Sunday school classes, small groups, youth groups, children's
- 11:01churches and, you know, Sunday school classes for children.
- 11:05So it's, it's very expandable, you know, can be utilized in a number of formats.
- 11:10But if I was going to pick one, I think families using this as a supplement to their
- 11:15own family devotion, so it was really kind of what I had in mind.
- 11:19You wrote a book years ago, I don't know how many years now, a history of homeschooling.
- 11:24Is that right?
- 11:25I have written several books on homeschooling.
- 11:28I have one that's called Answers for Homeschooling, which in the preface of that, I talk about
- 11:33the history of the homeschooling movement.
- 11:35And that's interesting because how far back did you go?
- 11:38I mean, did you go back to Deuteronomy and mentioned, is it Deuteronomy six, six or nine?
- 11:42I think it's chapter six when it talks, when it, it tells that they're telling their
- 11:46children to, or they're instructed to speak about these things.
- 11:50God's word when they're going about the day, when they're getting up, when they lay
- 11:54down at night.
- 11:55It doesn't mention eating or going to the bathroom.
- 11:57So there are a few times where you would, but it really, if you're raising children in
- 12:04the faith, you want to teach them and talk about the word of God.
- 12:08And this, you've got 52 weeks, lessons, 52 lessons in here.
- 12:13Go ahead and share the importance of that because we forget, but this goes way back to
- 12:17Old Testament, not just just not on modern American thing, the homeschooling movement,
- 12:21right?
- 12:22The Christian education.
- 12:23This is our world view.
- 12:24Go ahead, Israel.
- 12:25Yeah, absolutely.
- 12:26Deuteronomy six talks about our obligation to teach our children.
- 12:29We wake up in the morning when we're inside our house or if we're outside our house.
- 12:34So I always think of how comprehensive that is.
- 12:36And sometimes that's parents like, is there every time when you're, when you're not
- 12:39in your house or out of your house, you know, it seems pretty universal until you lay
- 12:43down at night.
- 12:44And, and then, you know, other passages like this was one that jumped out at me years
- 12:48ago.
- 12:49Deuteronomy 30, it talked about how God commanded his people to gather the whole assembly
- 12:55of Israel from the oldest to the very youngest and read the entire law of God every seven
- 13:01years.
- 13:02And I thought about that as a dad and I thought I get approximately three cycles of that
- 13:09seven year period to be able to teach the word of God to my children.
- 13:14And I thought about how children will receive things at the age of seven and understand
- 13:18it and interpret it.
- 13:20And then at the age of 14 and then as they're leaving our home as older teens, young adults,
- 13:25you know, how we get almost three cycles with them to be able to teach the law of God.
- 13:30And I thought, you know, I want to do that with my children just to be able to be systematic
- 13:34and going through the entire Bible three times with them before they leave my home.
- 13:39And so I've been working on a lot of resources.
- 13:41I created a Bible doctrine curriculum for high schoolers called foundations in faith.
- 13:47It's like a 36 week course on Bible doctrine and theology books on how to do this as a
- 13:53parent.
- 13:54I've one called raising them up parenting for Christians.
- 13:56But I just think it's essential, especially for fathers that we learn how to disciple
- 14:01our kids.
- 14:02And I know it's a long-winded answer.
- 14:03But I think a lot of dads feel very intimidated with discipling their kids because they didn't
- 14:07have the example.
- 14:08Yes.
- 14:09You know, their fathers didn't sit them down and do Bible time with them.
- 14:12They didn't have dads who led them spiritually.
- 14:14And I just want to encourage those dads that it's got to start somewhere.
- 14:18Yeah.
- 14:19You know, you can't just wait and to hope somewhere down the road, somebody else starts
- 14:23doing it.
- 14:24It ultimately has to start with us.
- 14:26Thank you, Israel.
- 14:29You've got the resources available at FamilyRenewal.org to do what a lot of pastors sadly are not
- 14:37doing, equipping the saints and teaching them, ministering to them, getting these truths.
- 14:43Foundational truths is the book, friends.
- 14:44We've got to take a brief pause with Israel Wayne FamilyRenewal.org.
- 14:48We'll be right back in World View Matters.

- 16:07So check out israelwayne.com and we would love to connect with you.
- 16:11I'm going to be speaking at a home school family camp up in Wisconsin in this later on,
- 16:17I think it's no next summer in 2025 and I get all over the country.
- 16:23So lots of great opportunities to connect with people in churches and conferences everywhere.
- 16:28Awesome.
- 16:29So I want to mention some of the chapter titles in the new book, foundational truths.
- 16:34I saw one on sanctification.
- 16:36I see what is the purpose of God's law, what is justification, when will Jesus return?
- 16:44Why must Christians obey God?
- 16:46Is there any other way to be saved besides trusting in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as
- 16:52the only atonement for our sin?
- 16:55Very important questions, Israel and you've got 52 of them.
- 17:00Anything you want to share about how I'm sure there were a lot more, how you narrowed
- 17:04it down and what was your focus when you did that?
- 17:07But thankfully there were a lot of historic catechisms that have been written over the
- 17:12last 500 years of church history that I drew from and was able to look at the things that
- 17:17were prioritized, you know, the ones that kind of made it into all of the different catechisms
- 17:23and confessions.
- 17:24And so those were things that were important to draw from.
- 17:27We actually wanted to have the scriptures listed in the book right beside the question
- 17:32of the answers.
- 17:33And they're color coded, they're highlighted so that people can see the verses that we
- 17:38drew from for the answers so that they don't just, you know, because we didn't want to
- 17:43just be somebody's opinion about these issues.
- 17:46We wanted to be as much as possible drawing phrases from the scripture itself.
- 17:51And we used the King James version in the book, families who wanted to use a different
- 17:55version could just, you know, supplement with whatever version they wanted to use.
- 17:58But in the book, we use the KJV and just wanted to make it something that's real open,
- 18:03open and go, you know, that you can't mess it up.
- 18:06And there's also like a life application section where we talk about how to apply it
- 18:13to our lives.
- 18:14There's some definitions of terms because there's a few words in the Bible that some students
- 18:19may not be familiar with.
- 18:20So we define a few terms, close the day with a prayer and we also have a shorter catechism
- 18:26if you will.
- 18:27So there's the longer answer, but then we also have just a one liner.
- 18:31So if we want young children to be able to memorize just a one line answer, we've done
- 18:36that as well.
- 18:37Wow.
- 18:38Sounds like you thought of everything.
- 18:39But I just want to show you guys this because you see the colors there.
- 18:43Those are all the scriptures.
- 18:45And then right over on this side, there's a prayer after everyone.
- 18:48Whose idea was that to end the lesson or the week because it's 52 weeks with a prayer?
- 18:54I think that's really good.
- 18:56We have some amazing editors that work at Masterbooks and they actually are really good at
- 19:01kind of, they write, you know, they help to format curriculum.
- 19:04So they were able to kind of round out the elements of this that would be helpful.
- 19:08So I did the heavy listing on lifting on the questions, the answers and finding all the
- 19:14Bible verses that support those things.
- 19:16And then our editors helped us with some of the other elements to make sure it was a fully
- 19:21orbed experience for the user.
- 19:24So you mentioned families, dads, moms using this very easy to go through with your kids.
- 19:30What about churches?
- 19:32Churches could have this kind of curriculum, maybe for Sunday school or I'm sure it could
- 19:37be used in many ways at a church, right?
- 19:39Absolutely.
- 19:40And the 52 questions make a great once a week lesson.
- 19:45It can be short and so you can easily accommodate this in a once a week Sunday school class.
- 19:52And again, it's just beautifully laid out.
- 19:54It's very aesthetically appealing.
- 19:56The publisher did a great job with that.
- 19:58And so yeah, we would love to have churches use this as well.
- 20:01And some of the historic catechisms, you go back all the way to earlier affirmation,
- 20:06for example, some of the early catechisms were like one denomination, kind of taking
- 20:10pot shots at another denomination if I'm honest about it.
- 20:15And so we wanted to make sure that this was not that that we were focusing on the things
- 20:19that we all agree upon within biblical Christianity.
- 20:24And so rather than highlighting some of the secondary doctrines or highlighting the differences,
- 20:30we really wanted students to become grounded in the things that the fine biblical Christianity
- 20:36and that really all true believers in Christ would believe and hold central as core doctrines.
- 20:44Excellent.
- 20:45I'm just going through that looking at the chapters again, are there more gods than one
- 20:50who created everything?
- 20:52How did God create things?
- 20:55For what purpose?
- 20:56I think of Colossians, is it?
- 20:58All things were created through him and for him, mentioning Jesus Christ.
- 21:02Absolutely.
- 21:03I just want to read something, a book quote here that I got, Israel, just have you expound
- 21:08on that.
- 21:09It says, there is no substitute for the Bible, creeds, confessions and catechisms are not
- 21:17ever to be a replacement for the Bible, they are simply tools that can help Christians
- 21:22understand in a more systematic way what the Bible teaches and that's the approach you
- 21:28take on this.
- 21:29Go ahead and share more.
- 21:30Yeah.
- 21:31I mean, if anybody goes to church and they listen to a pastor sermon, he doesn't just read
- 21:35the Bible to you for 30 to 45 minutes.
- 21:39He takes a text from the scripture and he helps to explain it, helps to teach what does
- 21:44this mean and how do we apply it to our lives.
- 21:46And so just as a pastor's sermon is a great supplement to the scripture that hopefully
- 21:51he's handling it correctly and all of that, there are other resources that can be helpful
- 21:57for us as Christians as well.
- 21:59And like I said, as much as possible, we wanted to just take these essential ideas of what
- 22:05is Christianity and what is important about Christianity, but then to draw the answers
- 22:10from the Word of God because no human, no church, no counsel, no author or speaker is
- 22:19infallible.
- 22:20We all are subservient to and under the Word of God.
- 22:25And so as much as possible, we wanted the verbiage, the wording of these answers to be
- 22:30drawn from the Bible itself, again, because we don't really care about people's opinions.
- 22:36We care about what did God say and how does God answer these questions?
- 22:39Himself from the words of holy scripture.
- 22:42So that was our goal and our intent.
- 22:44Yeah.
- 22:45Well, you said something I thought of Ken Ham and how he explains things, sometimes
- 22:48talks about the authority of the scriptures and we don't think we don't say what does
- 22:53this mean to me or it's what did God say, right?
- 22:57He always focuses what did God say?
- 23:00What does he mean by that?
- 23:01Not what what it means does because we can make the Bible into something that it's not
- 23:05and we often do.
- 23:06That's where interpretation comes in.
- 23:08So mention some other chapters or was there some sort of a layout the way you what you
- 23:16started with?
- 23:17In other words, I see that you did not start with creation, but you did start with the
- 23:21existence of God.
- 23:22Number one, how can we know there is a God?
- 23:25So share a little bit more about the progression of how you put the book together, Israel.
- 23:30Sure.
- 23:31Well, part of it, we kind of wanted to follow a chronology of how the Bible deals with
- 23:35doctrine.
- 23:36And so, you know, you just read one of the first words of the Bible itself in the beginning
- 23:40God.
- 23:42And so the Bible doesn't set out to prove the existence of God.
- 23:47It presupposes the existence of God.
- 23:50And so it states and declares his existence and then it explains not just that God exists,
- 23:57but what he did in history and then it talks about creation.
- 24:01So, you know, we move from the nature and character of God who he is to the creation.
- 24:08And then we go from there into the Bible itself, right?
- 24:11Because if we don't understand that the Bible is God's inspired and fallible and errant
- 24:15word, then we really can't trust anything that's in it.
- 24:19And so we need to know that the 66 books of the Bible are indeed the word of God.
- 24:26And then we talk about the fall and how did how did things go bad, right?
- 24:31Where did sin come into the world?
- 24:32Whose fault was that?
- 24:33And so we talk about the nature of man.
- 24:36And then of course, we talk about God's judgment because God is a holy God.
- 24:41And so being holy, he has to judge sin, which leads us of course to the remedy for sin,
- 24:47which is the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 24:49And so we have the laws, the schoolmaster that brings us to Christ, but Christ and his
- 24:54atonement on the cross ultimately is what brings us back into a right relationship with
- 25:00God.
- 25:01And so then from there, of course, we want to talk about Jesus, who he is, what he did,
- 25:05and then moving forward into what is the church.
- 25:07And then aspects of the church, we talk about communion and baptism and just being part
- 25:12of the body of Christ and then our life as Christians, our responsibility to share our
- 25:17faith with others and sanctification, how once we're saved and we talk about justification,
- 25:22what is that?
- 25:23That's when we are declared righteous before God because we have a toning work of Jesus
- 25:27Christ.
- 25:28Sanctification, what is that when God helps us to grow into mature as believers?
- 25:33And so it really is just fairly fully orbed in terms of the content and the scope of what
- 25:38we're trying to address, but in a simple and concise way.
- 25:41So the website familyrenewal.org, we're with Israel Wayne and we just have a few more
- 25:46minutes.
- 25:47I'm just looking at the very back number 52, week 52.
- 25:50What is the final destination for Christians in eternity?
- 25:5451 is, must believers tell others about the gospel of Jesus Christ, but I want to touch
- 25:59on, have you touched on number 49 is real, prayer is aligning our will to God.
- 26:07It seems very basic maybe for many of us, but a lot of people think it's asking God for
- 26:12things, but that's not what it is.
- 26:15Go ahead and share your thoughts.
- 26:16That's a very important one.
- 26:18Well, I just had a lady two nights ago at a conference in Illinois, Chicago, asked me
- 26:22that question.
- 26:23So my son says, why do I keep praying?
- 26:24I pray it doesn't work.
- 26:25And I said, well, it depends on what you mean by work.
- 26:28Are you thinking God's a genie in a bottle is going to answer every prayer request?
- 26:32Prayer is aligning our will to the will of God.
- 26:35And so there's so many things to teach our children in the back of the book too.
- 26:38We have like the 10 commandments.
- 26:40We have a Psalm 23.
- 26:41We have the Beatitudes, just some really basic things in the Bible that children can memorize.
- 26:46That's a lot in this resource.
- 26:48It is.
- 26:49And I'm glad you used the word resource, phenomenal guys, foundational truths.
- 26:52You can check it out at familyrenewal.org.
- 26:55It's by master books.
- 26:57Israel, it's so good to reconnect with you again, brother.
- 27:00I know you're continuing to do God's work and put it out great books.
- 27:04So I know Lord willing will talk to you again in the near future.
- 27:07God bless you and your family, brother.
- 27:09Thank you.
- 27:10Appreciate you, brother.
- 27:11Thank you.
- 27:12Thank you so much.
- 27:13Again, guys, the websites, you can go to his personal website, israelwayne.com.
- 27:17Also you can go to ChristianWorldview.net, but his main site, familyrenewal.org, really
- 27:25phenomenal.
- 27:26If you look through this book, whether you have kids or not, a great teaching tool, maybe
- 27:30for your church, think about it or as a gift.
- 27:32But thank you guys again, just for supporting the show and allowing us to bring on excellent
- 27:37guests that can help equip, inform, and sometimes challenge us in our maybe comfortable Christianity
- 27:45and not much in the Bible about that being comfortable.
- 27:49But anyway, God bless you, friends, and as always, keep speaking the truth about things
- 27:55that matter.
- 27:56See you next time.
