- 0:04One day Jesus told this story about a dude that liked to sew
- 0:08Bibles. Wait, he sewed Bibles?
- 0:11How do you sew Bibles? I don't know man with a needle
- 0:15and thread. It was Jesus story not mine.
- 0:18I guess in Bible times people sewed bibles.
- 0:20They were called sewers. That doesn't sound right.
- 0:25It's right if Jesus told it so. This dude was sewing Bibles and
- 0:29some Bible seeds fell on the sidewalk.
- 0:32What's a Bible seed? I don't know.
- 0:35I guess when you sew Bibles together, seeds fall on the
- 0:38ground. That's all I know.
- 0:40That doesn't sound right. Anyways, the birds came and ate
- 0:45the seeds because Bible seeds are bird seeds.
- 0:50Is this story in Mark 4? Yeah, you know this story.
- 0:55It's the story of the Sower sowing the Word of God.
- 0:58Yeah, he sowed Bibles. The Word of God is the Bible.
- 1:03Yes, but the sower is like a farmer A.
- 1:06Farmer sowed Bibles. No, he planted seed in the
- 1:10ground. That's what the word sow means
- 1:13Sow So. What happened to his needle and
- 1:17thread? That's sew.
- 1:19That's what I'm trying to tell you.
- 1:22Jesus is talking about a farmer, that kind of and the seed that
- 1:26he plants in the ground is the word of God.
- 1:29So why is the farmer trying to plant seed in a sidewalk?
- 1:33The sidewalk represents different people's hearts.
- 1:36Jesus talked about four different kinds of hearts.
- 1:39Some people's hearts are hard ground that doesn't receive
- 1:42God's Word, and some people's hearts are good ground because
- 1:46they think about God's Word and it causes their faith to grow.
- 1:50I'm going to have to read that story again, man.
- 1:53It's our job to make sure our hearts are tender so that when
- 1:57we hear God's word, we believe it and do what it says.
- 2:01That's our word for today, Tender hearted.
- 2:04Tender hearted. People with a hard heart are too
- 2:07busy to listen to the word of God, or they don't care what the
- 2:10word of God says. But a tender hearted person
- 2:13loves the word of God and wants to listen so he can learn what
- 2:17it says. Is your heart tender, Paco?
- 2:21Oh yeah, it is. Now.
- 2:23It wasn't always tender. When I was 9 my heart was niner.
- 2:28But then I had a birthday and now my heart is tender.
- 2:32I'm tender hearted but what happens when I turn 11?
- 2:37Will it stop being tender? Never mind.
- 2:42I guess it'll be a lavender. Hey fish, I read mark 4 again.
- 2:51Thanks for helping me understand that the sower was a farmer and
- 2:55planting seed on a sidewalk doesn't work.
- 2:58That's right, a hard heart can't receive God's Word.
- 3:02You got to have dirt in your heart.
- 3:04Wait, what? Yeah, and you got to have a lot
- 3:07of dirt in your heart, because if you only have a little dirt,
- 3:10when the farmer plants the word of God in your heart, the rocks
- 3:13will get the plant and roll it into the sun.
- 3:17Are you sure? I'm sure it's called
- 3:20Rock'n'roll. That doesn't sound right.
- 3:23So if you don't have a lot of dirt in your heart, then you
- 3:26have to have plenty of sunscreen or you'll get sunburned.
- 3:30All because of the rocks. Rock'n'roll.
- 3:34That can't be right. Oh, it's right out of the Bible.
- 3:37I read it this morning, man. People with only a little dirt
- 3:41in their hearts. They really like the word of God
- 3:43at first, but then the rocks come along and cause problems.
- 3:48What kind of problems? I don't know plant problems and
- 3:52the rocks start calling them names.
- 3:55What kind of names? I don't know plant names.
- 3:59Bad plant named maybe? Like Dandelion Lion is a cool
- 4:04name, but not dandy. Now I remember the rocks
- 4:09represent problems in our lives. That's what I said.
- 4:13That's why you have to have a lot of dirt in your heart to
- 4:16keep the rocks buried. OK, first of all, we don't have
- 4:20dirt in our hearts. Our hearts are like the soil
- 4:24that a farmer plants seed in. The deeper the soil, the deeper
- 4:28the roots can grow. The rocks represent problems.
- 4:32They don't cause problems unless we let them in our hearts.
- 4:36Just like a farmer has to dig the rocks out of his field or
- 4:39they will stop the seeds from growing into strong, healthy
- 4:42plants, we have to keep the rocks out of our hearts.
- 4:45How do we do that? Our hearts are supposed to be
- 4:48rooted in the knowledge that God loves us.
- 4:52Rooted in God's love for us. I like that.
- 4:56Paco. That's our word for today,
- 4:58Rooted. That makes sense to me man.
- 5:01When problems come, or when people start making fun of us
- 5:05because we are Christians, we can draw from God's Word and
- 5:09God's love, just like a plant draws life from its roots.
- 5:13Way to go plan. Don't let those rocks push you
- 5:16around, man. What was that?
- 5:19That was me rooting for the plant.
- 5:22As I was saying, we know God isn't the one causing our
- 5:25problems. He's not the one sending the
- 5:27rocks. So we forgive those who make fun
- 5:30of us, and we tell the problems to get out of our heart so God's
- 5:34Word will continue to grow. We don't give up and quit.
- 5:38We're rooted in God's love. Are you rooted, Paco?
- 5:42Of course I'm rooted. Whenever I play soccer, my Papa
- 5:46comes to the game and roots for me.
- 5:48And when I show my abuelita my report card, she roots for me
- 5:51and gives me money. And when I clean up my room, my
- 5:54Mama roots for me. I'm rooted all the time.
- 5:59Oh, brother. What did I say?
- 6:03I hope you didn't give up and quit.
- 6:06I guess I should have rooted for fish.
- 6:13Hey fish, I'm still reading Mark 4 about the farmer that planted
- 6:16seeds. Did you know he planted seeds in
- 6:18the middle of thorns? He didn't plant them in the
- 6:21middle of thorns. The seeds fell in the middle of
- 6:24thorns. Maybe the farmer should be more
- 6:27careful when he scatters the seeds.
- 6:29Then he wouldn't be having all these problems with the birds
- 6:31and the rocks and the thorns. Pagal, the point of Jesus
- 6:35teaching is not that the farmer is sloppy, it's that our hearts
- 6:40are sloppy when we hear the word of God.
- 6:42That's why we need to guard our heart to make sure that it's
- 6:46always good ground. I guess the farmer couldn't pick
- 6:49the seeds back up because he would get poked by the thorns.
- 6:52I hate getting poked. Anyways, this is what I learned.
- 6:55Thorns come to poke the Word of God out of our hearts.
- 6:59You mean choke? What?
- 7:01The thorns come to choke the word of God from our lives.
- 7:04I'm pretty sure it's poke. I've never been choked by a
- 7:07thorn, but I have been poked by a thorn and I have been poked by
- 7:11a wasp, which is like a flying thorn.
- 7:15And I have been poked by a doctor giving me a shot, which
- 7:17is like a thorn with medicine in it.
- 7:20I don't like any of them. Do you know what the thorn
- 7:24represents? I pain.
- 7:27Actually, Mark 4 says, the thorns in our heart are the
- 7:31worries of this life, the lure of wealth and the desire for
- 7:35other things. What does that mean?
- 7:37Well, to put it simply, worry is a thorn.
- 7:41Do you ever get worried? Who doesn't get worried, man?
- 7:44We all get worried at times, but worry is a trap to keep us
- 7:48thinking about our problems instead of God's promises.
- 7:52I get it. It pokes the word out of our
- 7:55heart. OK.
- 7:58So what's the lure of wealth? Here's an example.
- 8:02If you saw a dollar on the ground, what would you do?
- 8:05I would pick it up. But what if you saw someone drop
- 8:08that dollar? I would.
- 8:09Pick it up quicker. Finders Keepers.
- 8:12That's the lure of wealth making you do that.
- 8:15It's choking the word out of your heart which says not to
- 8:18steal. I was joking fish.
- 8:21I would pick up the dollar before anyone else and give it
- 8:24to the person who dropped. It that's good, Paco.
- 8:28And the last one is the desire for other things.
- 8:31I remember one time I wanted a skateboard.
- 8:33All I could think about was that skateboard.
- 8:36I would go to school and try to listen to the teacher, but all I
- 8:39could think about was that skateboard.
- 8:41It poked math out of my brain, so it makes sense that it would
- 8:44poke the Word of God out of my heart too.
- 8:47It's important that we keep the Word of God first place in our
- 8:50hearts, Paco. By keeping God's word first, we
- 8:53keep it on the throne of our heart.
- 8:55Worries and desires and the lure of wealth.
- 8:58It's come to take God's Word off the throne of our heart.
- 9:01That's our word for today. Throne.
- 9:03That's what we have to ask ourselves every day.
- 9:06Paco, who's on our throne? I don't have to ask it.
- 9:09I get asked it all the time. One time I threw a rock and hit
- 9:13the neighbor's cat. The lady said who hit my cat
- 9:16with that rock and I said I cannot tell a lie.
- 9:18It was thrown by me and one time I threw a ball through my
- 9:22umbrella's window and she said who threw the ball at my window
- 9:25and I said it was thrown by me. Not that kind of throne.
- 9:29Throne like what a king sits on. Oh, I get it.
- 9:34The Word of God is on the throne of my heart, and the thorns come
- 9:38to dethrone it. That's why we have to dethrone
- 9:41the thorns, so they can't dethrone God's Word.
- 9:44Wow, that's pretty good, Paco. You actually make sense for a
- 9:48change. That's because I keep poking
- 9:51around the Word of God. As long as I poke around God's
- 9:53word, the thorns can't poke the Word of God out of my heart.
- 9:57And when I poke around the Word of God, it keeps the Word of God
- 10:00on the throne. When I let worries and desire do
- 10:04the poking, then they get on the throne.
- 10:06Poke and it shall not be poked out of you.
- 10:10I don't think that's in the never mind.
- 10:15Did I poke too far? Who's on your throne, man?
- 10:23All right, fish. I don't know how the farmer
- 10:25keeps getting into trouble, man. First, the birds come when he
- 10:28throws a seed on the sidewalk. That's talking about the people
- 10:31who hear the word of God but don't believe it.
- 10:34Or maybe they don't understand it, so the Word doesn't grow in
- 10:37their hearts and the devil comes and steals it.
- 10:40That's why we keep our hearts tender and welcome God's Word in
- 10:43our heart by studying it, especially when we don't
- 10:46understand what it means. That's what I said.
- 10:49The birds come, then the rocks come and roll over the plant
- 10:53because there isn't enough dirt. There isn't enough dirt because
- 10:56our heart is full of rocks. Like when we get upset because
- 10:59of something that someone says or does.
- 11:02Nobody's perfect, so we will always have plenty of
- 11:05opportunities to get mad. We have to be rooted in God's
- 11:09love so that we are quick to forgive others.
- 11:11Then we don't give up and quit. That's what I said.
- 11:14The rocks come, then the thorns come and poke the word of God
- 11:18from our hearts. The thorns are the things we
- 11:21worry about, the lure of wealth and desiring other things more
- 11:25than God. All are ways of taking over the
- 11:27throne of our hearts so that we don't have time for the Word of
- 11:31God in our lives. They choke the Word of God.
- 11:34They poke the word of God, They're thorns, remember?
- 11:37But now, when the farmer finally gets to the good ground, I
- 11:41thought it was going to be easy. But now he has the most trouble
- 11:44of all, man. What are you talking about,
- 11:46Paco? All Mark 420 says is.
- 11:49And the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear
- 11:53and accept God's Word and produce a harvest of 3060 or
- 11:58even 100 times as much as had been planted.
- 12:01What trouble are you talking about?
- 12:0330 * 60 * 100 times. The trouble is the math.
- 12:08Jesus is just telling us that the Word of God multiplies the
- 12:11fruit in our lives. That's the problem.
- 12:14Fish multiplying. I can do 30 * 1, I can do 60 *
- 12:181. I can even do 100 * 1.
- 12:22OK, I can do 100 times anything, but the 30 and 60 are not so
- 12:27easy man. The point is, taking the time to
- 12:30plant God's Word in our hearts will always produce a lot of
- 12:33good things in our lives. The Word of God is fruitful, so
- 12:37our lives will be full of good fruit.
- 12:40That's our word for today. Paco.
- 12:42Fruitful. I'll bet God's Word has made
- 12:45your life fruitful. It has.
- 12:47I remember last summer I prayed and got a job picking
- 12:50strawberries. We had to pick them and put them
- 12:52in these little crates and they would pay US money for every
- 12:55crate we turned in. So the first day I put 1
- 12:57strawberry in the crate and then ate the next.
- 13:00I did that all day, so I didn't get paid as much as the other
- 13:03kids. But I was so full of
- 13:05strawberries when I went home, I was fruitful.
- 13:09No, no, no. That's not what fruitful means.
- 13:12Being fruitful means that you are successful.
- 13:16The Word of God gives us wisdom to do what is right.
- 13:19It gives us power to do the good works God has planned for us.
- 13:23The Word gives direction to our lives to keep us on God's path.
- 13:27It helps us to be strong and courageous instead of being
- 13:31afraid, and it gives us all things that pertain to life and
- 13:34godliness. You said the word of God gives
- 13:37us wisdom to do what is right, so will it give me wisdom to get
- 13:40the right answer on my math test?
- 13:42You know like 30 * 17. Can it do that or do I have to
- 13:46keep going to math class and studying my math book?
- 13:49Why do I feel like I'm talking to a sidewalk?
- 13:53Hey fish, where'd you go? I'm just trying to be fruitful
- 13:56on my math test. I guess I better go ask my math
- 14:00teacher for help. At least she doesn't jump in a
- 14:02pool of water when I ask her for help.
