- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: You'd have for better for worse and it's going to be a interaction.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: lately.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like it's been for worse, but that's a good thing.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's good.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, man, keep it saucy.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_02]: Keep it spicy.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_02]: Keep it fresh.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_02]: And we certainly do that.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_02]: So guys and gals, it is this episode is we're recording a bit earlier, but it's going to be releasing the week of Christmas.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: And so for those of you celebrate Christmas, whatever you celebrate Christmas Eve.

- 2:30[SPEAKER_04]: I'm looking forward to it.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, every time I'm in the background, you know, my dad's your dad, dad, share this share this.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_04]: And finally, I'm able to express my opinion on the show here.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm glad to be with you, girls.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, y'all aren't ready for it.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_04]: But today, so recently, a basketball practice, I tore my MCL or sprained my MCL.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm in a knee brace right now.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_04]: So.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_04]: Hopefully the MRI doesn't, doesn't go worse, but, you know, school, the Christmas break just started.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, I love Christmas time.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_04]: My favorite part is being able to buy cards when I'm off a school.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_04]: So, it's been super tough for me when you're at school, too.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_04]: So, what's it there?
- 3:05[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I do, I do it all the time, but, uh,
- 3:08[SPEAKER_04]: But yeah, bind's been super tough lately, but we had a new business opportunity that started me in Big Matt.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_04]: So we've been really grinding about that and it's had a great last two weeks bind.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's just pretty much my week.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_04]: Big Matt Kern.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_04]: Kern, go ahead, buddy.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, so I just gave an update, you know, because we recorded recently, but uh...
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I just want to reiterate what Matt said, prayers to Gary and his family.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously we're planning on having our him on today.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: Originally to discuss prospect talk, but we all felt it was necessary to have Gary on for that.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: But to that point, we've kind of been doing our deep dive into those guys and see who the buys are right now, with the sells are if there are any.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: For me, I mean, I
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: I hadn't been doing a ton of buying at all, like I said, on last week's episode, I have a lot of wax here.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing my rest of it all.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: Cosmic update, I mean, I got a little bit of everything here.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: So kind of having some fun with that before the holiday season.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_02]: So again, Kurn, I understand respect.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: You're not a Santa Claus guy, but if Santa Claus were to bring you a present this year, what would be, what would be in the gift bag?
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: What would you want this year as a nice gift for the holidays?
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: I would like
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's a great question.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: I would have said to the Connor Griffing Super.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: I thought you already got it.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: But that's what it has to be done.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's a great question.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like I have everything I need.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: But I guess I would probably want a $100,000 gift card to David Adams.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: She's not to be too specific.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're being honest.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: We're being kind of being my ass.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, little Matt, Santa Claus this year, what's in the bag?
- 4:46[SPEAKER_04]: So since we already have the trout super I think I love a nice another nice Jordan.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_04]: So I know we got a lot of Jordan, but like a Jordan intimidation nation or like a Jordan platinum portance would be super nice.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: So let me feel you guys in.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_02]: We had a really interesting situation.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: I just want to bring this to everybody's attention.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_02]: We have.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_02]: We're involved in the middle of the situation right now where we bought a card and we think it might be a fake and it's actually a sealed it was a sealed product out of Penini one downtown and it's the first time that this has happened to us and so we're kind of all eyes alert right now sending it off degrading to get it authenticated but it was an odd situation where the card showed up in person in a Penini one case with the seal on it.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_02]: It just so happened to be the day that I got home from having eye surgery.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: So I was still a bit dilated and we're sold at you.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_02]: It was a smart man's breath.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_02]: I'm telling you what, it was the con job of the year.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_02]: If he found the right date and time to get me when I was dilated.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: I know he's working with the doctor.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: I know.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: It is.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: You got to watch out.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_02]: You got to watch those ducks.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_02]: So anyway, we bought the card and afterwards it just didn't sit right with me.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: I started looking in and look like the, you know, the tab on the the sticker, the seal had been tampered with and I started to get that gut feeling like us doesn't feel right.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_02]: The God didn't communicate with me, but was was not willing to refund yet.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_02]: He said send it off and get it off, then to cater each back out.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see, but it would be the first time that I feel like a God got
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm saying, and it was an in-person deal.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_02]: And so just, I guess, fairness to our listeners that during the holidays and stuff, you know, when people times get tough, things happen.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_02]: So just always make sure you have protocols that you go through when you're buying cards to make sure that you don't deal in, you know, forged stuff, fake stuff, etc.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, just my little public service announcement for the day.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so other than that, hamhouse man, we're gearing up for, you know, big Christmas five kiddos around here.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_02]: So it's a busy time of year.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_02]: We got family in town.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_02]: And the week after Christmas, it's actually my birthday.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_02]: When did your birthday?
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: Big 44 this year, the 29th of December.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_02]: Now I have that that weird birthday that falls between Christmas and New Years and gets forgotten.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_02]: but I have somebody on the show who is capable of buying me a present.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_02]: So just a little reminder that I've got a birthday coming up.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, we're going to jump in right now and go ahead and welcome a guest to the show.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_02]: And this is a long time listener of the show, actually, and has become a good friend.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome Joe Christophero to the show.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_03]: Joe, what's up, buddy?
- 7:21[SPEAKER_03]: Man, it is an honor.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_03]: First of all, happy holidays.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_03]: having to watch Zach twice before I got invited was a little punch in the gut, but just to make it up here, guys.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_03]: Super stoked.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: Well, guys, Joe Christopher is Super O's collector on Instagram.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: Arguably, probably the largest Orioles collector by a long shot of a lot of ridiculously cool cards.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: He and Kurn are buddies.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: Joe's been a long time listener to the show.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_02]: And Joe is just
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: a bit of a prototype of listeners to the sports card CEO guys like yourself business owners guys who are getting into the hobby for a variety of different reasons talk a little bit about yeah how you got in your collection et cetera but since you incurred have a bit of a backstory here current outlets you kind of take the lead and get us into the the dialogue yeah man I'm trying to figure out first off
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: how we'd even connected think it was like go ahead.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think I heard of you when we were both trying to buy a card at the same time.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Gunner Handerson Super got it.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_03]: My prize possession you were mythical guy on the other end that was inflating my bid a little bit more and more.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_03]: But after I was able to acquire it that's when we kind of crossed past a little bit.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: But that was interesting.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: But we've been in touch since.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, as Matt just mentioned, Joe is an unarguably the biggest Orioles collector, at least for modern Orioles cards.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: in the world.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: When did you get into the hobby?
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: Have you always been into it or is this reason?
- 9:02[SPEAKER_03]: You know, always been into it as a kid, you know, since the old school days when you could buy cars but not really sell them, you know, and so as I got older, you know, my orals didn't do so good for a lot of years, but you know, I'm the guy that still watched the 30, 40, 50 win seasons, you know, through and through.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_03]: So,
- 9:20[SPEAKER_03]: I think it really changed for me when Adley Rushman hit the major league scene.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_03]: Anyone that follows the Orioles know that that was like a big jolt into our franchise.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_03]: And from there, it's just completely turn around.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_03]: It's been fun.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_03]: You know, watching the younger guys together, too, you know, with their home run celebrations and their beer bongs with the waterbongs.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just spraying in the outfield.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_03]: Again, it just turned really fun again.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_03]: In my opinion, Baltimore really needed that jolt of energy again.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_03]: It's such a baseball town.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_03]: So to have them back again is just really with Tom.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_03]: And it was Ali Rushments first day that really took a thing.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_03]: two comments there.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_03]: Number one, do you own the oddly super?
- 10:01[SPEAKER_03]: I don't, but I've been looking forward for a long time.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_03]: So if you guys know who has it, let me know.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, okay.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_03]: I will.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_04]: I heard that guy's hard to deal with.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_04]: The guy that hasn't.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I've heard he sticks over coms for pretty much anything.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_03]: So it's, I can't walk through that factor first, but you can get in.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: And second off, you guys are taking a peel also.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: No, that's a great signing on.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't see that coming to be honest, because they don't really spend like that.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: They don't sign long term free agents at that big morning.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_03]: They don't, and my initial thought was, if we did, immediately got to be a starting pitcher or maybe Kyle Tucker, because GM has some roots back in the day when that scouting and drafting and stuff like that, but that kind of came out of nowhere, especially considering had a few first basement, but I love it.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_03]: We're, where are you based, you're, for lunch, yep, and for a lot of them.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: As you know, you're in Florida, okay.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why I thought you were in Arizona.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_03]: So I was there when my house was being built, house is finally built.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_03]: Now I'm finally here.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_03]: And as you guys can see, my tan is looking much better.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: But you go.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: Are you, are you, are you, what are you from Baltimore originally though?
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: Is that how you're in Oregon?
- 11:07[SPEAKER_03]: Born in Baltimore, Dad used to work for Black and Decker back in the day, which is based in Maryland.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_03]: And so, yeah, that's kind of my roots there, live there for a while.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_03]: Whole Dad's side of the family still lives theirs.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_03]: You know, that was kind of my childhood family, you know, traditions was Baltimore Orioles game.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_03]: Cow Rippon.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, baby.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: Ripkin to the moon.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_02]: So Joe, the, um, you know, when you make a decision like you've made so bit bit back story, we just talk briefly so you are a business owner yourself if you always been a business owner kind of see talk talk a little bit about your
- 11:39[SPEAKER_03]: career.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_03]: How you got here.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_03]: So I actually went into corporate America.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_03]: You know, got a decent job there was working at Google for a while.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, kind of corporate wasn't really my style.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_03]: I was the guy who would CC the boss and be like, what the heck are we doing here?
- 11:54[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, companies like that definitely got to get into management.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_03]: I knew I was just kind of built for something else.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_03]: So it was really when the founders of Google left new kind of people came in.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_03]: That's when I said, hey, here's an opportunity for me to kind of teach
- 12:09[SPEAKER_03]: How to do this big transitional ship.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_03]: So it's been awesome.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_03]: I love it.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_03]: I get to travel all over the US.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_03]: I get to basically work from the internet.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_03]: You know, if I want to.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_03]: So it kind of allows me to be a little flexible.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_03]: And I got a cool little secret for you on how I get cards here in a little bit too.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_02]: So so what made you so you said you're always into collecting right, but like a moment happens where you go from like collecting gunner Henderson to like going after a gunner Henderson super.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, we all know the hobby or listeners know the hobby.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you're now putting, you know, six figures into these assets.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_02]: So, talk a little bit about your collection, right?
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: And your decision to put that much of an investment into, you know, I mean, the card vehicle as kind of an asset class.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely, you know, and I do my collecting a little bit different on and I understand that, you know, you got to kind of have some financial means to do some of this stuff, but I really thrive on the super rare stuff the stuff that you'll just never be able to find again, tuck it away almost like buying a stock in a way, but that's why I love the modern so much as you still got juice in the game with these guys over the next few years versus again, I love my Cal Ripkin stuff, but
- 13:18[SPEAKER_03]: I'm waiting for, you know, the next unfortunate and that in his life where the car could go up again and this I still got juice in the game up in a little bit of a gamble or that's what I really love about the modern market, but it was really the Orioles making it back to the playoffs during Gunner Henderson's big run, Adley in there, you know,
- 13:36[SPEAKER_03]: Jackson holiday and the wings about to be called up full time.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_03]: That's when I really decided like this is a team I believe in over the future.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_03]: They're young and so I want to make my investment there.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_03]: I was tired of watching my CMBC investment, you know, versus there's just a lot more fun doing this.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm a guy guys.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_03]: No joke.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_03]: The watch is every single baseball game of the years.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're like, you're like the Oriole equipment of Captain Met up here and I can see you guys like in the same, you know, thing just yet you're all into your team and that's cool.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think we're Joe differs like Joe, you don't collect anybody except for Orioles, right?
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's like you don't you don't venture out at all, do you?
- 14:17[SPEAKER_03]: No, not really.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_03]: And that's a good and a bad thing.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I, you know, I look back on if I could have gotten into some vintage stuff or some air and judge stuff or stuff like that.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_03]: But at the end of the day, like, can I ever buy a New Yorkie and keep baseball card?
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I thought the same thing one day to be honest with you.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, dude, I'm just a die hard.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_03]: It's who I buy.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_03]: I buy you on prospects.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_03]: I buy young debut patches.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_03]: I'm all in.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_03]: You know, whether they make it or not, it was still the journey that I got to follow.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_04]: So Joe, you're Oreo's fam, what about the ratings?
- 14:50[SPEAKER_04]: You, uh, you collect any Ravens cards?
- 14:52[SPEAKER_03]: First of all, we've got to talk on the side about all these bacelo sales and how I wasn't the first guy that got the text.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_03]: I would have, ob, would be in any offer.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_03]: What's the bacelo?
- 15:03[SPEAKER_03]: You could start it with me either.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_03]: But I collect a few Lamar Jackson's for fun, you know, football guy too, with a Baltimore Ravens.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_03]: At the end of the day, I'm 99% Orioles, 1% Lamar Jackson and Ray Lewis really, but that's about it.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_03]: I'm really just diheartos.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: So when you look at, you know, for example, it sounds like to me as I hear you talk.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_02]: You love the idea of having the rare card of the guy who's playing tonight.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_03]: Definitely.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_02]: Well, is, do you have any like Ripkin rookie PSA 10 type things like or Jim Palmer was a Brooks Robinson?
- 15:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like those are those in the wheelhouse or no?
- 15:44[SPEAKER_03]: I have a few nothing big like what I have on the modern front bucket list is to over time kind of find a couple of those to fit into it.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_03]: But again, that that's still competitiveness in me.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I don't want to wait around for RIPGIN to pass away for his car values to go up.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_03]: You know, so they're hope Gunner Henderson wins MVP in the next two years.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_03]: So again, just gives me a little bit more juice in the ride over the next few years.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_03]: But my bucket list is to get some big vintage Orioles Jim Palm Murbooks.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_03]: How a boo totally.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: Could you give us a little highlight of your collection?
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: The highlight pieces, most valuable card, favorite card,
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: Toughest one to acquire.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_03]: Just give us a little insight.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_03]: Toughest one was definitely the gutter Henderson, a super, you know, first moment auto.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was the toughest because of who I was going against on the other side.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_03]: You know, but at the end of the day, we kind of got it in.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_03]: So absolutely love that.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you helped me.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_03]: You know, it was fun, Jason, debut patches with you last year.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_03]: that Jackson Holiday was one of my favorite just ended up in a town very close to where I was, you know, old baseball coach and just cool experience kind of meeting that guy stuff like that too.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_03]: You know, got some bestsellers first Bowman too, Jackson Holiday's first Bowman as well.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_03]: And so yeah, again, just really looking for that super, the goal is to lay them all out one day and have, you know, the entire in field.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_03]: the entire outfield of the teams I watched every single game, you know, all year.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_03]: So this is kind of my highlights of what I kind of have right now.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_02]: So massively massively big cards, right?
- 17:18[SPEAKER_02]: And you mentioned in there that you own some supers, and you also own some debut patches.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_02]: So this ongoing debate here on the SportsCard CEO is what has more value, which one is more sought after?
- 17:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like Bowman was the OG, right?
- 17:35[SPEAKER_02]: And so the Bowman auto supers kind of OG.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_02]: But now this debut patch is coming there.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: Now that you own both of them as a super collector of a team, what's your take?
- 17:45[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to have to throw a baseball analogy in here and get you out with a curve ball.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_03]: I'm a tops chrome guy call it weird, but that's when they become a major leap.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_03]: That's when they made it.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_03]: That in my point is a little bit more of a milestone than.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_03]: being drafted and having to go through three different leagues or two different leagues, you know, the minute you made it, I think is a huge milestone.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_03]: So that's why these debut patches are creeping, but I'm a old school Gunner Henderson tops chrome rookie card, Adley Rushman tops chrome.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm a little bit different, but again, I kind of go that more modern approach than some of the more of old preference, right?
- 18:23[SPEAKER_01]: Not like you're taking on value, why, so for overall, correct?
- 18:26[SPEAKER_03]: Correct, that's that's preference, but I do think over time tops chrome catches up to first boom.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_03]: I really do that again.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_03]: I'm a wild card out there, but I do think it's starts to get a little bit more value when these guys go through the rankings and actually get on the field and aware the patch.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_02]: So a little mad, I'm going to ask you this question, when when you look at these debut patches and you look at supers, like you've been around the hobby enough, you know enough hobby people, you follow a lot of different stuff, as kind of a kid in the hobby, what's your take on that debut patch versus supers?
- 18:58[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I feel like for us, the superiors is just, it has that thing because when we got into cards, like Bumman is what we did, and we were chasing the holiday super.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_04]: That's the card we came into the hobby chasing.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_04]: And clearly one of the four of us was able to acquire it, but I feel like the Bumman's super, I like the Bumman's super more, but I felt the debut patch, you know.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_04]: it looks cooler and has a better backstory, but current made this point a lot of episodes ago, but like it's all about what type of game the player has.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_04]: Like Jason Dominguez, I feel like his debut patch has valued more because in his first event, he had a home run off for lander.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_04]: But if a guy goes out there and goes over four and doesn't touch the field, like I feel like there's not as much sentimental value in the debut patch there.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_03]: Dang, dig for my holiday patch, good one.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: Contentional Dix.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_01]: All right, current, you got another question?
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: No, it wasn't a question.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's more just conversation about this.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: Because I think you could have this debate for, you know, well, weeks and days.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_02]: But here in reality, I love this, too, because it's like I've seen YouTube guys like, oh, my screen layout, you're both the side by side that you're above me.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_02]: And like, y'all be two guys own quite a few superstars, quite a few debut patches.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 20:13[SPEAKER_02]: you guys are in the rare air as far as collectors in the hobby who kind of go after that kind of stuff.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's just interesting to get different people's takes on that.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_02]: And certainly, I mean, I about argue about it until the cows come home about which one is, you know, better cooler has more value, etc.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, I think it's just an interesting thing to consider.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_02]: I will say this, going back to the way I think.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_02]: I like Bowman Super's because in that product,
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: When I mean by that is if I'm open and wax and I'm open and boom and wax, you can still make money on first non autos first cromes like if you missed the big card, you still can liquidate, we're actually running yeah, yeah, or if you're buying into breaks or whatever.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you can liquidate a lot of these cards and kind of salvage a bad day versus in like a top's chrome or the update product with the patch.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, I want to rip every pack and is your patch.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, that's just my take.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_02]: True.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think this conversation couldn't really, sorry Matt, this conversation could really only be had like with the better bigger players, right?
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like, because if you're having the conversation of which is more valuable and it's, you know, we're talking Jackson Holiday, right, who's had, who's in the major leagues, he's starting, right?
- 21:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like, like, if it was not Jackson Holiday, it's not like the moment first is worth nothing, right?
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if it's just
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: made his major league debut and is back down to Triple A.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like the Bowman first is probably worth nothing.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: So the floor is going to be higher on the debut patch, right?
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: Just because it's a connection to the player, right?
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and it's probably something he's going after.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: But the bigger ones, the holidays, Cheerios, Caminaro, like those kind of guys, it means that they're having some sort of success.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like, okay, what is more valuable?
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: There is already kind of a floor.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: set with likely floor set with some sort of either private sale that you're aware of or public sale on the moment for super, which really sets that, it's, I mean, it sets the mark for the debut patch.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, the debut patch isn't going to be worth less at this point.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think we've all established that.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's either going to be equal value or it's going to be more.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: And right now, I think with those kind of players, it's showing that it's a lot more.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're new.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think Phenetics on a great job in marketing them.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's really the only way to have the connection to the player.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's brought in a lot of people from outside of the Bowman world and baseball world even that are chasing them, especially now given that they're doing it for soccer and basketball and they'll be doing them for football.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think it's just got a broader
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: You know, a broader interest, you know, customer interest, you know, collector interest being that they're in all different sports and I think what people like is that it's it is a true one of one and that the image is from that game specifically, but see them wearing the patch on the card and, you know, there's no other parallels like in Bowman that have that image, you know, it's an honest with synonymous with the debut batch, right, which which I like as well.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but it's really that connection.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: So what determines the value is who's after that specific Carter player?
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's really what's the terms of value.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: And what is their personal preference?
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it comes down to.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: And what's auction house you're fighting it on the other side?
- 23:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, I was going to go there next little match.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_02]: You have a question.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_04]: No, I was just going to say you're talking about ripping tops chrome.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think you've ripped the pack of tops chrome ever.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_04]: And when I ask about ripping it, you laugh at me.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_02]: So you're right.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_02]: I don't rip wax, but my point.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go back and that's why I don't rip wax.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_04]: I'm expecting.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_02]: Well, listen, Uncle Eric, Uncle Eric has some wax that he can mail you for Christmas little, young man.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_04]: Eric, I only take Disney, I only take Disney wax.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: I got some Mickey Mouse and many diamonds for you, okay?
- 23:55[SPEAKER_02]: And Bavdance.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_02]: So, here's a question.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_02]: Two questions.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of a two-part question.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_02]: So, Joe, did you just come out of the gate and go, yeah, I think I'm gonna go about the super-fractor.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_02]: Or did you like go and buy like an orange color match, Jackson Holiday?
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like, did you go from zero to a hundred?
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: Or did you just...
- 24:13[SPEAKER_03]: I started in the middle, top's chrome.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_03]: This was Gunner Henderson's rookie year, so he was in the rookie of the year race.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_03]: That started with, I believe, a color match top's chrome orange auto and no joke bought it raw off a eBay, graded it into a 10.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_03]: And immediately, obviously saw that, that value that was there.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_03]: Again, still on that card today, when I was like, whoa, this is pretty cool.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_03]: I literally just kind of, I did it, I did it, I did it, whoa, okay.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_03]: So I thought, so I kind of slowly corrected the rainbow for that.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_03]: I have the entire top chrome rainbow for Gunner Anderson's rookie year.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_03]: That's when I started to again really hear about the first boom in being that strong value and I kind of said to myself, darn, I probably should have started there.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_03]: But I kind of liked the way I did it because again, first Bowman, as you know, that's a whole mother level of price points there too.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_03]: So it was nice to have people like current to bounce ideas off.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_03]: You know, he's awesome as far as response rate and just kind of throw in his thoughts out there.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_03]: But it's a little bit harder when you're pricing these bigger first Bowmans as they don't have recent sales sometimes and just to kind of double tail up the last comment on debut patch versus first Bowman in the seller's eyes, whichever one the seller has is the
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: you know, as buyers, is that such a, as far as buying them, like we've had so many text messages exchanges and phone conversations you and I about when you were chasing holiday and and everyone else that I was chasing Cheerio, it was like, where do we value these things, man?
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I was like, here's my thoughts, like, here's my, it was so hard.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: It still is, but like, you get kind of have a better idea than now probably.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, 100%.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, again, you're in your head thinking this is crazy, but when you're able to, you know, bounce an idea of someone who's kind of thinking the same thing as you makes you feel a little bit more comfortable kind of doing something like this, which I'm glad I did, you know.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_02]: So the question I asked earlier was about where did you start, you know, we did have a listener who reached out to us and he said, you know, hey guys, like I love y'all talking about these big cards, but like what do I do as a collector who doesn't have that kind of capital, you know, what do I do as a collector who doesn't have.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_02]: And again, that's what I love about the products is you have the ability to go and collect the non-auto chrome reflector on up if you want to blue gold orange red, whatever.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_02]: You could do that on the non-auto rainbow.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_02]: You could play in the waters with base autos or refractor autos or whatever.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_02]: And their question was about how you climb.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_02]: And it's interesting, man.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_02]: I was actually on another podcast the other day.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_02]: I named Ryan had me on his podcast and he was talking about,
- 26:42[SPEAKER_02]: How did you guys go from Mike Bond $1,500 to buying $5,000 to $10,000 cards?
- 26:50[SPEAKER_02]: And the way I kind of explained this, I said, listen, you know what I mean?
- 26:53[SPEAKER_02]: It takes you to the same amount of time, you know, to deal in as an art card as it does a $50 card.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's just your tolerance level.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_02]: And so, if you build up that tolerance level and variance, then you can just, you know, kind of use and apply the same kind of strategy getting to the higher stuff.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_02]: So I just want to say that to people who might be listening to the show and go, I could never own a debut patch, I could never own, you know, whatever.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's really not true.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_02]: You can, you can continue to hustle and build or whatever until you get to a point where you, you choose to get into that higher and stuff.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_02]: But again, it was interesting to me that you didn't just come out of the gate.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_02]: You actually started and wet your appetite.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I want to tell you one thing, I think it's a little unique, but I use this philosophy in my business and it's worked very well.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_03]: So I use it as a card collector.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_03]: I got very niche.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not the Baltimore guy, right?
- 27:39[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not the, you know, I'm a, I'm an owes guy.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_03]: And when dealing with the smaller cards, I got my name out there as the owes guys, but then also negotiating, there are still surprisingly collectors out there that want a card to go home to the right.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, 100%.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think being on the other side, they know, I'm not just going to flip it.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not just going to an auction house, like it's going to a good home.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_03]: That has helped me secure some cards that have then helped me level up too.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_03]: So again, there's all sorts of different approaches, but the more niche you can get, I think it really kind of helps you.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Karen that goes back to our episode a couple of weeks ago where we talked about branding yourself right and you know current you kind of have a brand you know around current cards and certainly Joe you do with super host collector, you know when you put yourself out there like that, it's going to give you these opportunities it might create a little bit of, you know, oh, I'm going to get more out of this guy or whatever, but you know at the same time you're getting opportunities you probably wouldn't have gotten if you didn't brand yourself that way.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_02]: So it's funny, Kerm, we've been talking about this kind of stuff.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_02]: And Joe is almost kind of a prototype of somebody who's done the things that we encourage people to do and certainly is capitalized on it for that.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_02]: Definitely.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_02]: 100%.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_02]: Go, I jump.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_03]: I was going to say, it's been a fun ride, you know, and just the Orioles being what they are and kind of seeing that growth is just kind of again, led it to more of just an investment for me, but kind of, again, feeling part of the team and stuff like
- 29:02[SPEAKER_03]: that.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_03]: So again, current, can't thank you enough for just you being there for some of my crazy thoughts and questions.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_03]: That's for danger.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, but it's definitely been on this ride.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_03]: You mentioned earlier that you have a secret to acquiring cards.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_03]: I want to hear.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's kind of nerdy here.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_03]: So stay with me for a second here.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_03]: But again, going back to the old background is as I knew that there are some people that have an advantage of just scouring the internet a lot, quicker than someone like me who has a day job and and just can't be there all the time.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_03]: So
- 29:31[SPEAKER_03]: Early on, I've learned that social media was exactly where these guys go, breakers, people when they hit their cards, you know, the group.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_03]: So I created a little script that crawls the internet 247, looking for signals, whether social, talking about the cards specifically that I'm looking for.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_03]: which is what helped me land that day be patched and I think gave me a huge advantage.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_03]: I was the first one on the phone with him less than 30 minutes after he posted it on Facebook.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_03]: So having that type of advantage too, I think is pretty crucial getting their quick versus late to the game, but it has definitely helped me find some cool cards.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_01]: So you're using basically AI to scour the internet for all the cards that you're interested in and it gives you results as they hit, correct?
- 30:20[SPEAKER_01]: So are you doing?
- 30:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, kind of think a Google alerts on steroids in a way.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's like matrix stuff, man.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_02]: I get it's like the centenals that are going through and they've got like the radars and their listening for the Nebuchadnezzar.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_02]: That's that's crazy.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_03]: It's creepy, but man, there's so many Facebook groups and so many collector groups and so many just online stuff that it's it's just hard to keep up with so many.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for sure.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_03]: That's super cool.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's cool.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_02]: So a little mad.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_02]: You have any questions.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I like current tells me on a lot of his deals the reason he closes them are because he told me when he closed the
- 30:56[SPEAKER_04]: The deal on a on a big car the other day said it pays to be quick.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_04]: And that's why I feel like a lot of people get their deals done like being right there.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_03]: It does.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_03]: And to double tail off that the throw a real strong offer in the beginning.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_03]: Don't try to lay the gate.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_03]: Come in super low and next week, more and more.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_03]: It just takes too much.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the the quicker you show them your real and then again, going back your all's philosophy of building a brand, you know, how many times I don't have to find references now to buy something.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_03]: They, I have that kind of credibility.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_03]: They know I can afford the card.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_03]: So I think I'm further along in that sales funnel than the next guy on Instagram, that they don't know.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_03]: They don't even know if he has the money if he can afford it, etc.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for sure.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so sure.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_02]: Another question on these debut patches.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_02]: So you you've obviously got the holiday debut patch, you know, you do you ever feel like you would say, man, I'm going to let that one go.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_03]: For some of them, I would, for the right opportunity, I've had a couple players reach out to me.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_03]: Here's what I would love to do with one of the debut patches that isn't my favorite favorite, but
- 32:00[SPEAKER_03]: I'd love to trade it to a player to kind of do a little bit about what current didn't get on the field, shake some hands, cool game at Camden yards, get a couple pictures, show the other fellows like Gunner and Adley that I got some really cool high-end stuff for theirs, and then absolutely if a player wanted enough I would.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if you were going to sell, like let's say a situation happened and you need to look with it, where are you going to go to put that card on the market, current?
- 32:31[SPEAKER_03]: No, honestly, I probably go to fanatics.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_03]: I've been treated well from them.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_03]: To me at the end of the day, it's about a relationship.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_03]: Some of the other places I don't feel like build the relationship facts did a good job early on.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_03]: And I probably go there first, but I definitely go to current value to make sure that we're aligned in that direction.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_02]: Current unit questions?
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what's the other, are there any cards you're currently after right now that you're in the midst of talking about?
- 33:01[SPEAKER_03]: I'm glad you said that.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_03]: Glad you said that because now I get to announce a little bounty today in front of all of the Christmas listeners.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do it.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_03]: Go.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_03]: It's more of an investment, a little bit more of a long term, but the Picello debut patch.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_03]: That is on.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_03]: I number one Christmas list, I am okay waiting till next Christmas for that just to make sure how high it up in my list.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_03]: I would like to offer out live here on TV of bounty of $65,000 cash, meet anywhere in the world, preferably the United States, but again, anywhere in the world, really would love to add that to my super first moment.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_02]: Fantastic.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_02]: There you have it.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_02]: You heard it here on the SportsCard CEO, a Supros Collector Joe is offering us something dollar bounty for the San World Bassayo debut patch, which will be out next year, right?
- 33:54[SPEAKER_02]: And that was just 20 seconds.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_02]: And you get the first one on the table.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_02]: So speaking to that, I have two thoughts, take me through your thought process as a nose guy with a guy like Samuel Busaya, because I love his hit tool and just his ex of velocities, dude, he's just ridiculously just tons of power, he's a great catcher as well, but now that you've got the polar bear at first base and you've got Adley behind the plate, like what do you see the organization doing with the guy with that kind of talent level?
- 34:24[SPEAKER_02]: I don't see him as a DH guy.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like he needs to play.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_02]: Like it feels like to me, they're kind of loaded up.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_03]: Are they going to trade somebody?
- 34:30[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I think you're on to something, definitely pitching is what Baltimore needs.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_03]: And the question is, is, is, can Baltimore get into what it costs to bring down a brick free agent?
- 34:41[SPEAKER_03]: So we definitely got an overload of first base.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, we got young prospects to Dylan Beaver's amazing.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_03]: But you can tell the owes about you hitting.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_03]: If you hit, they will find a place for you to play.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_03]: They also love players that are multi-positional because that's how you they love to keep you in the line up as far as there.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_03]: So I unfortunately think at least the odd man out.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think right now because of him coming off of two injury-prone years.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_03]: But all he has to do is start taking off a little bit and I do think he unfortunately becomes the odd man out, which slides young gun in right there.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_03]: And then we go try to figure out how to afford Westy Gunner holiday.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_03]: Which as you know, we probably won't be able to get all three of them, but if we could get two.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_03]: I'm the happiest guy in the entire world.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_02]: So, go ahead, Kirk.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I was going to say, so a guy like Simmel Bassaya, right?
- 35:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like came into the bigs last year.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_02]: You know, average wise not really impressive, like his average.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_02]: He struggled with the average, but he did hit some balls ridiculously hard.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_02]: His carate was really strong.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_02]: He's a guy we've loved.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_02]: Is he a guy that, you know, again, as we would say, like not the glazing,
- 35:53[SPEAKER_02]: has that type of potential to have a rookie of the year run.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_03]: Let's just say if you logged into my sports betting app, it's on M2 when rookie of the year.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_03]: You're ready to go.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_03]: What do we value in baseball home runs?
- 36:08[SPEAKER_03]: What did I do?
- 36:09[SPEAKER_03]: He pops.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_03]: what did everyone love about Nick Kurtz, you know, so he just, he's got the tools.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_03]: Again, he got brought up at the end of the year after a long, minor league season.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_03]: He just got married this year.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_03]: He just got paid this year.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he's coming in fresh and remember, always this, he's the first signing of new ownership for Baltimore Orioles.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_03]: So I think that's key in where they value him to as well.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Matthew, we still have one desire, right?
- 36:35[SPEAKER_02]: A gold.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_04]: I, one of the first big card me and my dad ever bought was a Gunner Henderson true orange.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_04]: Just to go like, now we look flip card and stuff, but we didn't know about cops at this point.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_04]: So to decide whether to buy the card or not, I think me and Big Matt set our couch and watch Gunner Henderson highlights for like 30 minutes.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, we clearly saw that he had all start potential as a rookie and so did you.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_04]: So I just want to put that.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_04]: That's one of the, that was the first big carbon ball.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_04]: So we always have loved Garner since owning that true orange color match.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_04]: And that's when we definitely want to get back.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I got a great story that got me all in on him.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_03]: They interviewed the three funny guys, Adley Colton better.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, would you do with your first big paycheck as a major league?
- 37:25[SPEAKER_03]: One of them said, oh, I bought a truck.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_03]: The other one said, oh, I bought a house.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_03]: Gunner came up.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_03]: I built a batting cage in a baseball field in my backyard.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_03]: Nice.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I'm all, I'm all in on a guy like that.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_03]: have you had any situations guys have been traded and you had a ton of them and what is the plan when that happens or if it hasn't happened what is the plan when it does that's a good question that's a great question and i'm still trying to figure that out i'll be honest with you for me seeing them if i saw them come up in the farm enough their warriors to me you know we might have traded them for corporate burns one year rental you know type stuff that i don't know if that was the best but again to me they were orials they were drafted by our organization so
- 38:06[SPEAKER_03]: I actually have Kyle Stower's entire top chrome rainbow.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_03]: Love the kids, kid can hit.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_03]: I think that was a foolish trade, even though Trevor Rodgers is great.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_03]: But I like to hang on to the guys.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_03]: If there's somebody like me that is a huge Kyle Stower's fan out there and had to have that card, that's something that I would like to put in the right collection type stuff as my mindset.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_03]: But as an Orioles fan, once you get drafted by us, you bleed orange.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I like that.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_02]: So, I have a question here.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_02]: This is, this is maybe, you know, the, the carrot can fan that I am.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, I've shared this before when I was 10 years old, a nine years old, my parents actually knew the trainer for the Toronto Blue Jays.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_02]: So, we got tickets to the 1991 All-Star Game in Toronto, Canada, and drove in a Mark III van with my parents
- 38:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and straight up went to the 91 all star game.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_02]: Ripkin wins the home run Derby.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_02]: Ripkin wins the all star MVP.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_02]: He wins the MVP for the major league that year and I was just kind of locked and loaded as a ripkin fan forever and I had I didn't know I had these, but I had my ticket stubs that I had kept in my
- 39:15[SPEAKER_02]: at my little pegboard in my room, and my mom found him when we got into cards and said, hey, I found your rip can tickets, and rip can ended up being a signer at the national in Cleveland, Ohio, and so I actually have my original 1991 rip can home run Derby ticket, sign Val Rip can, and all start ticket.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, talk about rare price list.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_02]: like honestly.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm asking you as like the the duper owes collect like when you get in to stuff that's like cards versus memorabilia like there's a thing right now is looking at heritage options the other day and there's a Mike trout game used jersey that's like 10k
- 39:59[SPEAKER_02]: right now on bids or something crazy, right?
- 40:03[SPEAKER_02]: You talk about Jordan game use stuff.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_02]: You talk about ripkin when you deal with stuff like that, memorabilia versus cards.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_02]: As a true super collector, what's your take on that?
- 40:14[SPEAKER_03]: I am game worn.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_03]: Through and through, love that.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_03]: I have the unique advantage of getting game worn rookie memorabilia, which I think is even more dialed into.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, Gunner Henderson, Jackson Holiday Adley, I have all their rookie game worn jerseys.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_03]: Actually, current gave me the good advice to to try to find a jersey that had a moment in time.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_03]: Like little Matt said, you come in, you do good.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_03]: You know, that's a huge value.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_03]: So, whether it's a home run or something like that.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so all of them have a unique history.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_03]: Gunner Henderson's first home run, Jackson Holliday's first home game.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_03]: You know, all little types of history like that, Jordan Westburg.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_03]: I love that stuff.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_03]: You know, my family thinks I'm weird, because I'm the only guys that order mannequins for their home.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_03]: You know, so we could put the game mourners on and show them all.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god, yeah, we go that far.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_03]: But again, I like to, again, celebrate this type of stuff and experience it a little bit.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to say, I think the guy in sound so lambs did that, too, but he had for different reasons.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's pretty hate.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, yeah.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's based on, yeah, what was the name Ed Heik?
- 41:19[SPEAKER_01]: Ed Ed.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, again.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, again.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_02]: That's crazy, though, man.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you could literally set up like the starting infield in the living room and like how a little display.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_02]: That's awesome.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_02]: You don't you need to do for your Christmas decorations.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_02]: You need to put them on the little train, right?
- 41:34[SPEAKER_02]: Like Kevin McAllister and Hummelone.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, with Michael Jordan and having just running around the living room.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_02]: Fantastic.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Karnin, we kind of wrapping up the show today.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_02]: A little mad either you guys have any final thoughts for Joe before we kind of wrap up the show here.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_01]: You go.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_01]: And then I, I, I, I was excited to have you on.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate you coming on good conversation.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, you're.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_01]: You're a weekly listener, so we appreciate that and I keep doing what you're doing.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's really cool to see somebody collecting at your level with the, you know, with the focus on that, you know, on their specific team that they love and it's not just all about investment, although it is a piece, but like you just you're collecting the team that you love and the players that play for that team.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're collecting the collecting the guys in the front of the jersey not necessarily the back So it's really cool.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_01]: So keep doing what you're doing.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely guys.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_03]: It has been an honor Honestly as someone who's watched since episode one, you know really cool to end up here one day Please wish by best to Gary and the family.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_03]: Um guys season three four.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_03]: Don't forget about your boy
- 42:44[SPEAKER_02]: I said here, man, I thank you so much for joining us and guys, it's guys like you that actually are the lifeblood of the hobby, like if there were not guys out there who were going after these rainbows who were going after these supers of their team, you know, that the hobby basically just becomes this
- 42:59[SPEAKER_02]: you know kind of weird trading card game.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_02]: So guys like you who are going after stuff truly do acquire it and have it as part of a collection, you know, that type of in user collector is so vital.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_02]: As are the other parts, like it all works together to create, you know, kind of an organism of the hobby that is vibrant.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for being who you are, man.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks, you know, so much for listening and certainly thanks for joining us today on the sports
