- 6:02Kristen says it's been a while. Well, it's good to have you back
- 6:04here, Kristen. So again, this is going to just
- 6:06kind of be a a random ramblings of sorts.
- 6:10And we're going to bring on Patrick Walsh here right now.
- 6:13My brother from another mother there.
- 6:15He is tuning in from Missouri. That is correct.
- 6:22Yeah, is it? You still have snow on the
- 6:23ground out there, bud. Melted.
- 6:25Now a. Little bit.
- 6:27Just a little bit. Yeah, just a little bit.
- 6:30Yeah, it was like 60 something degrees here today.
- 6:33Yeah, but same here. It's about it.
- 6:35Got the 67 at one point. I went on a little hike a little
- 6:40bit earlier this afternoon. Oh, did you?
- 6:43Oh, I had to. I mean, it was, yeah.
- 6:46You know what I mean? Like it's a good day for it.
- 6:49I just almost lit myself on fire here 'cause I realized my
- 6:53incense was burning too fast and I didn't blow it out.
- 6:56And then I tried to pick up the the thing and, well, there you
- 7:01have it. It's just.
- 7:03Thing. Well, there you have it.
- 7:05There you have it. As random as it gets, folks.
- 7:08So good thing I've got another shtick here to to keep going.
- 7:12Maybe it won't burn the house then.
- 7:13Now it won't burn that, Michael. Sorry, you're in Pine Pike
- 7:18County, Kentucky, over there in the mountains.
- 7:20John is he says he's got work doing security during Mardi Gras
- 7:25on Bourbon Street. It's going to be a blast.
- 7:27All right, so you're still in Louisiana.
- 7:29Very cool. Hope you're all doing well
- 7:31tonight. And yeah, like I said before,
- 7:33this is going to kind of be a, you know, ask us anything.
- 7:38You know, guys, this is live and and you can interact with with
- 7:40me and Patrick in real time. So if you have a question for me
- 7:43or for Patrick or for the both of us that you'd like to, to
- 7:46throw our way, feel free to do so.
- 7:50Also, Patrick, you have a, a for folks that are watching on
- 7:53Facebook. You guys might recognize Patrick
- 7:56because he's got a social Media Group that he runs and that I
- 8:02help kind of moderate or, or whatever called the called the
- 8:09Highland Highland tribe mental slash spiritual support group.
- 8:15So Highland Tribe mental spiritual Support group and
- 8:20yeah, Patrick, what do you want to you want to plug that at all?
- 8:23Oh yeah, it's just an amazing group of great people.
- 8:27We all share a, a great love for high lung and all the work that
- 8:32they do. It's just a place for us to be
- 8:35ourselves, you know, to share our struggles as well as our
- 8:40accomplishments. And it's basically what the name
- 8:43says. So mental health spiritual
- 8:46group. Yeah, and so I've posted the
- 8:51link down for the comments or in the comments section on both
- 8:54YouTube and on, on on Facebook over here.
- 8:58So if you're perusing the the Internet Facebook groups and you
- 9:02want to join and, and, and it is a safe place again, you can you
- 9:06can even post anonymously. I know a lot of folks that that
- 9:09watch these things don't always like to comment due to, you
- 9:14know, having a legitimate concerns of their safety.
- 9:17You know, if their identity is is is there.
- 9:20And then, as Kristen says, it's a great group, very supportive,
- 9:23so Kristen knows. Thank you, appreciate.
- 9:25That knows what's up, you know. And yeah, thank you for saying
- 9:28so. I agree.
- 9:28You know, I've been there, man. I don't remember when I came in
- 9:32there, but. Right towards the beginning, I
- 9:35think. Yeah, I feel, I don't remember
- 9:37what your, your group numbers were, but you're you, you got to
- 9:39be pushing close to 3000 almost right, 2600.
- 9:45Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 9:47And you get new members every day, you know, so that's that's,
- 9:51that's really awesome. It's very engaging.
- 9:54Hello there, David Klenn, good to be here again.
- 9:56Yes, good to have you here, Sir. David, it's a heathen down, I
- 9:59believe in the Columbia, TN area.
- 10:02So for those of you wondering, we got a good group of folks in
- 10:06the in the Middle Tennessee area and surrounding places.
- 10:10So but yes, it's good to see everybody.
- 10:13If you have questions again, comment them down below.
- 10:15We'll get to them as soon as we can.
- 10:17We'll kind of get to them in between our own conversations
- 10:20here, because I, I threw, I threw AI threw a bone to Patrick
- 10:25and said, hey, man, you want to come on the live with me
- 10:27tonight? No, no, no, no pressure or
- 10:29anything, of course, but just like a last minute hour and a
- 10:34half away, like, hey, you know, you want to come and, and shoot
- 10:37the breeze with me for a bit. And, and I'm glad you decided
- 10:40that you wanted to because I always enjoy any conversations
- 10:44that we have. And it's great to to do so when
- 10:47we are talking about stuff that we both can connect with, you
- 10:52know, we, that we can both jive with things that are both kind
- 10:54of in our wheelhouse. And you had looked at a post
- 10:59from, I think it was last week's episode about, you know,
- 11:01reconnecting with the Lanvatier. And for those of you folks that
- 11:04hadn't seen it yet again, you can go back to my Patreon page
- 11:08to to watch the whole thing. Just just sign up at at the Carl
- 11:12tier for a dollar to watch the whole thing.
- 11:14Or you can go to Spotify or any of the other audio platforms if
- 11:17you just want to listen to it. But it was about it was actually
- 11:21one of Michaels backer here who's watching from from from
- 11:24YouTube. It was that topic.
- 11:28It was it was him that's that suggested that topic on
- 11:31reconnecting or not reconnecting.
- 11:33But developing a stronger bond or a deeper connection with the
- 11:40spirits of the land, you know, land vetir, land whites,
- 11:43whatever name you put to it. So Speaking of Michael Thacker,
- 11:48did you guys get caught up in those storms last week here in
- 11:52Tennessee? We had a bunch of rain.
- 11:57We did get some snow, but I mean, it was like a dusting.
- 12:00It was, you know, if it if we got an answer to that was that
- 12:03was it. But we've had a lot more rain
- 12:05here recently. So nothing too terribly
- 12:10disruptive about you, Patrick. How's the weather been out there
- 12:14by you? Quite the 180, because for a
- 12:19while we had that cold stretch, Yeah, it's just like high, like
- 12:2520°, but low. But I don't even want to know.
- 12:29Yeah. Like the last.
- 12:32Couple days though, it's just been very pleasant and
- 12:36tolerable. It's funny too, because Sunday I
- 12:41was taking off my friend and I was telling her like, hey, it's
- 12:44going to get up to 40° today. You know, after being in the
- 12:48teens, 40° feels like it's like springtime.
- 12:51Sure does. Yeah, you like, everything's
- 12:55relevant relative, you know, 20s during the day and then you get
- 13:0040s. You're like, yeah, it's a heat
- 13:01wave, you know? Pretty much.
- 13:06Well, yeah, so we're all good though.
- 13:08But so yeah, anyways, you're pretty excited, Patrick, to talk
- 13:14about deepening our connection with the, the the land spirits.
- 13:21So did you get a chance to? I know my I share like clips and
- 13:27stuff around. Have you gotten a chance yet to
- 13:28to listen or watch to to any of the thing that I posted about
- 13:31last week's episode about this? I have not yet, no.
- 13:35Yeah. OK, cool.
- 13:37Well, then we can just kind of build it from the ground up
- 13:40here. Better thing for just one quick
- 13:43moment here. Yeah, yeah, go ahead.
- 13:44I'm going to read Kristen's comment here.
- 13:46If you said that my kindred fell apart and I completely lost my
- 13:51faith with it, the gods, land spirits, and ancestors went
- 13:55silent. Any advice on picking up a
- 13:58solitary practice and reconnecting to one's
- 14:02spirituality? That's a great question.
- 14:07Yeah, I was to say, make sure that you heard all that, Patrick
- 14:10'cause I feel like that's something right by me.
- 14:12One more time, it was kind of cutting down there.
- 14:14OK, so Kristen, Kristen on YouTube said that my kindred
- 14:19fell apart and I'm completely lost my faith with it.
- 14:22The gods, the land spirits and ancestors went silent.
- 14:25And is there any advice on picking up a solitary practice
- 14:29and reconnecting to one's spirituality?
- 14:36So Patrick, you want to go first?
- 14:38Oh yeah, of course. Thank you.
- 14:40Well, I'm really sad to hear about your Kindred and speaking
- 14:46on male behalf, I've been a solitary practitioner for the
- 14:51greater part of my life, like 9095% of that.
- 14:56And going off that, it could be a very low maintenance way of
- 15:01doing things and it works out great because you've read things
- 15:06on your own schedule and your own dependency.
- 15:09You provide everything that you're experiencing for the most
- 15:12part. But with that said, again,
- 15:16speaking as a solar partitioner, it could be very disheartening
- 15:19not having that group of people to celebrate and collect that
- 15:24energy and share that experience.
- 15:29Yeah, yeah. You know, and I've seen 2
- 15:33examples where like kindreds or tribes or groups, you know,
- 15:37there's it, they dissolve for one reason or another, or the
- 15:41structure of things change. Just, you know, due to the, the
- 15:46winds of change. It's, it's not anything that can
- 15:49be avoided. And everybody's subject to it.
- 15:52Everything is subject to it. So when those winds come through
- 15:54and they sweep, you know, there's, there's, we're, we're
- 15:56all subject to, to the results of which, right.
- 15:58Sometimes the storm can, can wipe things out for a reason.
- 16:06And without knowing specifics, without knowing details, you
- 16:09know, it, it's, it's up, I think, to one individual or, or
- 16:12the group, if, if that's the way it's, it's going to be seen as,
- 16:15you know, what did this, what did this storm do for us or for
- 16:20me, you know, did this wind come through and change things to
- 16:23make way for something else that I need to, to, to focus on to,
- 16:28to sort of wipe the slate clean, You know, because that can be
- 16:35what it is a lot of times. And, and, and when, when you
- 16:37have something dissolved that you put a lot of effort into or
- 16:41that a lot of effort was put into that you felt a part of,
- 16:45you know, to see it come apart at the seams and tend to watch
- 16:48it dissolve. That can be really, really
- 16:51discouraging. And it can make you feel like
- 16:54you've lost your, your, your, your touch or your connection
- 16:57with the holy, with the sacred, with the divine.
- 17:00I've, I, I, I can tell you from experience, Kristen, like I, I
- 17:04know all too well what that feels like now.
- 17:11So Patrick, do you have any, like, have you run into any
- 17:14situations for yourself where there's been something or some
- 17:18things that you particularly find helpful for, as Kristen
- 17:22says, you know, kind of reconnecting and and picking up
- 17:26a solitary practice you've had most of your life to do that in.
- 17:29But I know sometimes we all face, you know, like I say that
- 17:32that little time where things are particularly harsher or
- 17:37rough and we have to find another.
- 17:39We have to really dig deep. We have to find something to to
- 17:41to to connect with. So do you have any like
- 17:44suggestions or examples of things that that you found
- 17:47helpful for that? Absolutely.
- 17:49And I appreciate the opportunities.
- 17:50So me personally, I've gone through a very difficult chapter
- 17:58in my life. So, you know, as a solo
- 18:02protectioner, I've been taking this time to spend time by
- 18:06myself and more importantly, places that I like to visit out
- 18:11in nature, whether that be hiking trails, a park, a pond,
- 18:17or just out in the woods. That experience can be very
- 18:22healing and very gratifying. So I recommend what I do is on
- 18:28my days off, I'll look on Google Earth, I'll look by nearby
- 18:33parks, trails, and then I'll set a date and go out there and you
- 18:38know, go explore. But when I do so, I do so with a
- 18:41sense of purpose and re establishing that connection.
- 18:46And it's very important to keep that mindset when you're
- 18:49undertaking this task. So you have that, you know, at
- 18:54the back of your head and you go exploring.
- 18:55You perhaps bring an offering and really enhance the sensory
- 19:00experience by maybe bringing some incense and playing some
- 19:03great music. I mean, you can't really go
- 19:06wrong. You could have a, a certain goal
- 19:10in mind when you get there. But again, just being out in
- 19:13nature, it's a. Yeah, it's a huge, it's a, it's
- 19:20good medicine. I think, you know, that's a good
- 19:22way of putting it. I, I being close to the river
- 19:27for me, that's kind of my medicine.
- 19:28You know, I'll go to the, to the river or I'll go out to the, to
- 19:31the trails nearby or something. You know, if I need to, you
- 19:36know, let let what messages need to come to me, let them come to
- 19:43me without the noise and, and everything else that can that
- 19:47can be kind of surrounding us in our day-to-day lives.
- 19:50You know, so there's that, there's that disconnecting from
- 19:55the things that tether us, you know, turn off your phone, you
- 20:00know, leave it in the car. What I mean, you know what I
- 20:02mean, like the technology aspect of things, you know, kind of go,
- 20:06go dark a bit to find your light again.
- 20:13And another thing too is, is like, again, not every situation
- 20:19is the same, but you know, in my situation, what I felt what I
- 20:23had going on was, you know, the, the, the change that happened
- 20:28was the inevitability of the outcome of certain things,
- 20:31right? The behavior of, of one or more
- 20:33people, right? And then so you have to
- 20:37evaluate, you have to look and go this, this wasn't working.
- 20:42The the old thing was not being tended to.
- 20:46It wasn't being nurtured. It wasn't being, you know, kept
- 20:51alive. And then, so if you, if you're
- 20:55not tending to things, if, if, if people aren't doing the work,
- 20:58you know, or if it's only one person's vision and it's not a
- 21:01shared vision, if it's not a shared experience, like a
- 21:04family, you know, which is what you think of when you hear the
- 21:08word kindred or when you hear tribe, that's family, you know,
- 21:11that that is an extension of the family unit.
- 21:14And so if the family unit is dysfunctional, then the
- 21:20extensions of such there's, there's nothing strong for that
- 21:24to, to have a foundation on to, to lay upon.
- 21:28So evaluating that and and seeing, OK, well, you know, do
- 21:33we do we start over? Do we, do we start, you know,
- 21:36something else? It's you know, and some people,
- 21:39some people, when that change comes about, realize that the
- 21:42group thing, the kindred thing, it's not, it's not what fulfills
- 21:46them. You know what I mean?
- 21:48Some people are are just fine and content to be a bit solitary
- 21:54on for the long term. You know, I'm not one of them.
- 21:59I'm, I mean, I'm particularly, I'm OK to be solitary.
- 22:03I'm OK. Like sometimes I need my
- 22:04solitude, right? But I also need that connection
- 22:10with others. I need, I need to have that
- 22:13human experience shared. I need to feel like I'm
- 22:17connected with other people that are also good people, you know,
- 22:22not to be connected for the sake of being connected, but to be
- 22:24connected with the right people who can help nurture me and I
- 22:27can help nurture them. And we, we feed each other's
- 22:29fires, you know what I mean? So I guess, you know, like
- 22:36Patrick was saying, Kristen, you know, nature, of course you're
- 22:38going to hear that answer a lot. I think people that are going
- 22:41to, if you ask 100 people, 100 pagans, a, you know, a mixed bag
- 22:45of, of just whoever that's going to be a recurring answer.
- 22:49You're going to hear that a lot, right?
- 22:51Go back to nature, go out to nature, find, you know, your
- 22:53piece there. And it's true.
- 22:56You know, I would also suggest, you know, that to, to reconnect
- 23:02to your spirituality, find where, where your, why is, why
- 23:07do you feel connected to the, the, the, the, the, the type of
- 23:12spirituality that you do, whether it's Heathenry or
- 23:15whether it's Hellenic, Hellenistic paganism or Celtic
- 23:20paganism or whatever it might be, you know, whatever you feel
- 23:26connected to, Like what, why, why do you feel that way?
- 23:31Once you know your, why in the world and once you know your
- 23:33purpose in this thing, it's, it's not hard to, to, to
- 23:39rekindle it. I had a situation recently, just
- 23:43to kind of throw out another example where like I didn't get
- 23:48the, the, the time to spend at you'll that I like to spend, you
- 23:53know, I didn't have the things going on, the, the, the, the
- 23:58observances, the, the, the stumbles and the feasting and
- 24:01everything. And I didn't get a chance to do
- 24:02it when I wanted to do it with the people who I wanted to do it
- 24:06with and the way that I wanted to do it.
- 24:08And that was very disheartening for me.
- 24:11So instead, you know, later on after the fact, and this came to
- 24:17me as a, as a bit of advice from another dear friend and brother
- 24:21of mine who said, you know, why don't you revisit that?
- 24:25That's that's where you find your, your spirituality.
- 24:28That's where you find your purpose.
- 24:29Is, is, is, is, is observing the heathen ways of your ancestors.
- 24:33So whether or not it's on that specific day with those specific
- 24:35people, recreate it and do it with the people who you are
- 24:38with. You know, and we did that and it
- 24:44meant more doing it that way than going through the, the
- 24:49motions, going through the, the seemingly like obligatory
- 24:55gestures that the first hat, like the first attempt was
- 25:01because it did it, it, it felt unnatural, it felt forced.
- 25:04And I'm like, what is, what is the point of all this?
- 25:09And the point of it is that for me, it was, it was that the,
- 25:14the, the, the, the connection I feel with my ancestors, with the
- 25:17gods around that time of year, you know, I wasn't feeling it
- 25:21with the people who I was doing it with anymore.
- 25:24And that's OK. Sometimes that happens.
- 25:27You know, sometimes people figure out other things that
- 25:29they want to go do and, and whatever makes them content or,
- 25:32or fulfilled, you know, with purpose, let them do it, right.
- 25:39Hello, Wesley. Wesley Curry is commenting on
- 25:43YouTube. Oh, this is great.
- 25:47Hey guys, you want to watch something cool?
- 25:51It says 20 days ago an Angel of Jesus gave you the real bread.
- 25:54OK, Wesley, well, you can go on and, and go somewhere.
- 25:58This is a heathen podcast, my friend says random heathen
- 26:01rambling. So I'm glad that the algorithm
- 26:03found you to comment and to increase, increase the, the, the
- 26:08views on things. But if that's what makes you
- 26:12feel fulfilled, Wesley, then go right on ahead and feel
- 26:14fulfilled somewhere else. This is a heathen podcast and
- 26:16we're talking about even thing, so that'll be the last time that
- 26:19we see Wesley's name pop up on the screen.
- 26:21I'll just. Say it.
- 26:24Goodbye and good riddance. So anyway, Kristen, I hope that
- 26:29helped answer your, your question and I hope that you
- 26:34find your, your purpose and, and, and yeah, don't give up,
- 26:41You know, let, let the time that it, that it hurts, right?
- 26:44Because it does hurt. Those, those things that that
- 26:47happen when they, when they happen, it can be very
- 26:51disheartening and it can be tough.
- 26:54Feel those things, right, Patrick?
- 26:56Absolutely. You got to feel it.
- 26:58You got it, you got it. You know, those emotions and
- 27:00those feelings are there for lessons.
- 27:03You know, they're there to teach us things.
- 27:05Vietnam nature is the absolute best place to be to have that
- 27:09experience. My humble opinion, because
- 27:11there's no judgement, it's just you and the forces around you.
- 27:15Yeah, agreed. So feel all the things I was.
- 27:21Going to say walking has a huge, you know, health benefits,
- 27:25especially with stress. Yeah, yeah, it does.
- 27:31I mean, I get told, I've told people plenty of times, you
- 27:33know, like if you're feeling a certain way, like if you're
- 27:39feeling down, if you're feeling disheartened or you're feeling,
- 27:44you know, any sort of negative way, get out and put your, you
- 27:49know, granted, it's cold this time of year, but but put your
- 27:52skin to grasp, put your face to to dirt, like put your touch
- 27:56your body to earth, right? Reconnect, feel that, feel the,
- 28:00the life that comes from, from the mother, you know, from your,
- 28:07and whether it's barefoot on the ground or your hands on a tree
- 28:11or, you know, hands in the water or something like just get out
- 28:14to nature and, and pause, you know, and stop and just let that
- 28:18be the thing that comforts and heals you.
- 28:20And in minutes, you know, kind of clear your mind.
- 28:23Let let the the troubles and things that that affect you
- 28:27negatively, just let them be absorbed into that nature, you
- 28:31know, and then receive back that healing and it'll comfort you.
- 28:35It'll give you comfort. It'll give you peace.
- 28:37And it's not going to solve the problem for you, but it's going
- 28:39to put you, at least for me, it puts me in a state of mind to
- 28:43work through the difficult things.
- 28:45It it puts me in a state of mind that to better with like to
- 28:50better to better deal with it. I don't know if that's how it
- 28:52works for you, Patrick, but. No, we'll certainly, without a
- 28:55doubt. Yeah.
- 29:02John says I can't agree with non judgmental in nature.
- 29:05The the the fae and whites as a bunch of our judgmental pricks.
- 29:10So are the feral cats. Listen, nature is nature.
- 29:12It's not that they're being judgmental.
- 29:14It's that they are doing what they're supposed to do.
- 29:16Nature is wild, nature is uncontrollable and nature is
- 29:19just going to do what it do. I mean, it's the law of the
- 29:21jungle. It's it's the law of the
- 29:23mountains. The sea is always right.
- 29:25Doesn't matter what you think what you want.
- 29:27I mean, it is what it is and you're, you know, so you're
- 29:30subject to it. We're subject to it when we when
- 29:32we put ourselves into that space.
- 29:34But we are also nature. We come from that same thing.
- 29:38We are a part of all of that. We are part of the same universe
- 29:41that created everything that we touch and see and experience and
- 29:45even the things that we don't necessarily see, but that we
- 29:47feel, we feel it because we are it.
- 29:51So there's, there's this involvement, there's the
- 29:54cyclical nature, there's this, you know, we are all descended
- 30:01from the one great being if you want to look at it that way,
- 30:03right? It was always there it.
- 30:07Was always there. It was always been there.
- 30:10And Kristen says she's going to start going out into the woods
- 30:12again and then she stopped a while ago.
- 30:14Well, I hope it helps. I believe it will.
- 30:15I believe you will find good things for you there.
- 30:20Earth is healing that people forget.
- 30:22It's a great reminder. Thank you for that.
- 30:25Vegas, Vegas, Trina, thank you for that.
- 30:29David also says that he's got to get to work.
- 30:31And may the old gods have favor upon you and you can thank you
- 30:34David, to you as well, Sir. Have a good night.
- 30:36Thank you for chiming in and watching for a bit.
- 30:40So this kind of opens up a good Segway Patrick, to to really get
- 30:43into deepening our connection, right?
- 30:46And and why do we want to deepen our connection with the V tier
- 30:49or the spirits of the land? What are some things that you
- 30:56know, why is it so important to us?
- 30:58Then again, finding the why and the purpose of things.
- 31:00Why do we do those types of things?
- 31:03To connect our or to deepen our connection?
- 31:06That's part of who we are. This is our Earth, all these
- 31:10creatures. Why don't we have that separate
- 31:15connection between all humans and the the animals?
- 31:21And we're really not that far off, though.
- 31:26Yeah, you know, I know. And it's I was talking, I think
- 31:32like last week I was, I was mentioning how, you know, you,
- 31:35you look outside or you walk through the woods and you see
- 31:37all these things. You know, you see the rocks, the
- 31:39trees, the, the, the earth, the river, the animals that, you
- 31:43know, squirrels, chipmunks, armadillos, deer, turkeys,
- 31:46vultures, herons, right? All of the, the various
- 31:51creatures that exist in that, in that space, you know, and to
- 31:54anybody else that that could just be what they are.
- 31:56It's, you know, they're, it's the trees, it's the rocks, it's
- 31:59the birds, it's the bees, it's the whatever.
- 32:02But for so many of us, you know, we recognize that they are the
- 32:08embodiment of spirit, just like we are an embodiment of spirit.
- 32:16You know what you see what we have to, to, to show for our
- 32:21physical selves. It's, it's temporary.
- 32:26It's, it's, you know, it's our rental for the week or whatever,
- 32:30you know what I mean? It's this thing that we were,
- 32:33that we were put in to live and exist a period of time in this
- 32:39form. But it's not what it's not who
- 32:44we are. It's, it's just what we people
- 32:47see. So to a lot of us, you know, you
- 32:51know, heathens especially, but like animistic people that,
- 32:54that, that tend to lean into the animistic side of things.
- 32:56Whether you're heathen or not, whether you use that term to
- 32:58describe your spirituality or not, it's still an animistic
- 33:04view of the world because we recognize and believe in that
- 33:07there is spirit in all things. So the reason why we, we, we
- 33:13wish to, to strengthen and to deepen our connection is, is
- 33:16like what Patrick said, you know, it's part of us.
- 33:18It's who we are and to feel that connection with those, with
- 33:24those beings, it's like a, it's like a, you know, it's like a
- 33:30kinship in a way. I think I used the, the example
- 33:34of like, you know, if you're, if you know Patrick, you and I, you
- 33:38know, we're good friends. We talk almost every day to some
- 33:40degree. You know, we're brothers.
- 33:43We have that connection and that a connection established in a
- 33:47way, but it continued and it became what it has because of
- 33:51the reciprocity, because of the gifting cycle, because of this
- 33:55equal exchange or this constant, you know, cyclical nature of the
- 34:02relationship, you know. And so strengthening our bonds
- 34:08with, with the other spirits of the land is, is when we do spend
- 34:11more time with them, when we are around and in their space, like
- 34:14that strengthens a bond, I believe at least it, it because
- 34:18they're, they're more, they, they see us, we see them, we're,
- 34:21we're around them. They, they recognize us, you
- 34:24know, so it's not like a person who became friends with somebody
- 34:29and then 20 years go by and they never speak.
- 34:31And then they pop up again later on.
- 34:33And it's like, oh, Dang, where have you been, you know, and
- 34:35what have you been up to? It's, you know, it, there's that
- 34:38that connection isn't the same, you know, 'cause they haven't
- 34:44fed that. Sorry, when we're experiencing
- 34:47like spiritual disconnection too, a lot of us, including
- 34:51myself at times, would like to seek out the gods.
- 34:57And while that's a great idea, I think you might have mentioned
- 35:00this before too though, is in some ways that the spiritual man
- 35:07don't receive as much credit as the gods as much as they should
- 35:10sometimes. And also like, I feel like the
- 35:14spirits of the land so are more of like a day-to-day, you know,
- 35:19experience, whereas the gods typically, from my personal
- 35:24opinion, experience is during time of celebrations, crisis,
- 35:30holidays, you know, holy tides. Yeah.
- 35:34Well, yeah, that that kind of touches on a video the the
- 35:38podcast from a couple of weeks ago where I talk about the the
- 35:42concept of the of gods of limited access because they are
- 35:47divine, because they are sacred. They are their existence and
- 35:52their presence is different than ours is because we exist in
- 35:57profane space, profane space and time.
- 36:00And the gods exist and function in in sacred space and time.
- 36:05And they are also, you know, acting of their own agency.
- 36:09They are not able to be in all places at all times.
- 36:12They, they, you know, so to, to, to interact with them.
- 36:18And this is, this is, by the way, this is like a, a very
- 36:20heathen view of things, right? So this is not necessarily the,
- 36:27you know, and it's very a specific type of, of heathen
- 36:30view on things, right? So not necessarily speaking on
- 36:32behalf of every heathen out here that may be listening or
- 36:36watching this, You know, some, some heathens may not agree or
- 36:39believe in the concept of the gods being sort of limited in
- 36:44how we can access them. But to Patrick's point, with the
- 36:50spirits of the land, they're always around because they exist
- 36:54in the same time and space that we do.
- 36:57And all it takes is a moment to go out and engage with them on
- 37:03the land in the in the in nature.
- 37:06You know, this is this is a very common way for for for ancient
- 37:12peoples to think the land was if the land was doing good, the
- 37:17spirits of the land were happy. If there was turmoil, if the
- 37:20land was not doing good, it was because the spirits of the land
- 37:24were upset or they were mad or they were, they were, they were
- 37:26scared or something, right Had had disturbed them to the point
- 37:29what that the land responded accordingly.
- 37:35So, yeah, having those, having those times like you, I think,
- 37:41Patrick, you're saying like in crisis or when it's tough, right
- 37:43to you want to reach out to the gods because they are this
- 37:47greater, larger than than life figures.
- 37:50You know what I mean? They're, they're, they're so
- 37:52powerful and they're, and they're, they're all the stories
- 37:55about them, you know what I mean?
- 38:00And there's something I want to touch on.
- 38:02Sorry to keep cutting you off. I'm horrible talking tonight.
- 38:07There's something I want to touch on.
- 38:08I'm going to answer the call on nature really quick here, but
- 38:13I'll be back very soon to touch on that topic.
- 38:16OK. Yeah, go ahead.
- 38:17I'll catch up on some comments all.
- 38:18Right. Thank you.
- 38:19Yeah, right here. So let's see, John is asking
- 38:24what is your thought on the notion that the gods may view us
- 38:29as living in sacred space as we view them in the same light?
- 38:34Or would you speculate that they have their own divinity that
- 38:38they Revere? It's a good question, I guess.
- 38:47I don't think that the gods are, are, I mean, you have, you know,
- 38:53these old gods, you know, we, we refer to them as, you know, you
- 38:57know, old heathen gods, you know, Odin and Thor and, and
- 39:01tear and, and stuff. But I, I think that there's
- 39:05rankings or levels, you know, 'cause then you go back even
- 39:07further, right? The, the, the, who the gods
- 39:09descended from, you know, the yolked and the like, you know,
- 39:15Emir and, and this all these, these primal or primeval or
- 39:20primordial is the, is the word. I'm looking for primordial
- 39:23beings, you know, So if it were, if we had to think, if there was
- 39:30a divinity that divinity also reveres, I don't think that
- 39:36that's really how it works. But I, you know, I don't think
- 39:41that the gods see us as as the same as we see them.
- 39:45They are the gods. They are maybe not, you know,
- 39:50eternal, but but they have a much higher life.
- 39:55They have a hot a longer life. They have much more power with
- 39:58everything that that that we know of about them.
- 40:02I don't think what we can deduce is that they are seeing less in
- 40:07the same time or the same space as we see them.
- 40:13Maybe. Maybe they have a a view of of.
- 40:17Their descendants, you know, who they came from the primordial
- 40:20forces like, you know, Emir and anger Boda and and these these
- 40:24other, you know, Suter and some of these primordial forces that
- 40:27the gods come from as their ancestors.
- 40:32But that's how I think. I mean, that's me personally,
- 40:34how I think they would view them as is as their own, as their
- 40:37ancestors. So in a much similar way as we
- 40:40would look to our ancestors for strength, you know, perhaps, you
- 40:43know, and this is all, this is all speculative.
- 40:46It's all UPG, you know. So yes, it is an opinion or a
- 40:50thought. But the notion that the gods
- 40:53view us living in sacred space now, I think, I think they are
- 40:57higher than us. They, I think they outrank us in
- 40:59that way. And and that we, they know that
- 41:03their time is, is sacred time. Their space is sacred space and
- 41:07ours is not. We are on Midgard.
- 41:11They are not, not, not in the way that we are, you know, not
- 41:15in the same sort of way. Patrick, you're back now.
- 41:22So we'll get to Michael's question and then we'll come
- 41:24back to the topic there is, is Michael says, do you think that
- 41:29building a coal forge in a very in a vey, do you think that
- 41:35building a coal forge in a vey could provide any benefit?
- 41:40I've been thinking of this as a way to try and dedicate my
- 41:44amateur blacksmithing to the gods, but I know that the land
- 41:48spirits and he puts another comment says dislike worked
- 41:55metals. Yeah, I mean we'll see what else
- 42:03he says. I probably wouldn't actually
- 42:04build the forge. I've weighed the cost, the
- 42:08weighed the cons many times and never have seen enough benefit
- 42:11myself. I mean, it really just depends
- 42:15on what you're what you're going for.
- 42:17Michael, I think you know a coal forge, it gives you got to
- 42:22think, you know what is, what is a vey, a vey or a herger or or a
- 42:27sacred Grove. These are all terms that that
- 42:32indicate that that that is a place that that we go to enter
- 42:40sacred time and space. It is a place for ritual.
- 42:43It is a place for ritual work. It is a place to like I
- 42:49mentioned a few weeks ago, right, Sacred spaces are locked
- 42:54doors and the ritual that we perform is the combination to
- 42:58that locked door. So the locked door on the other
- 43:01side is gives us access to the gods and sacred time and space
- 43:05and all of that. And if we're not doing anything
- 43:08in that space, that is that consists of the ritual work,
- 43:12you're basically just fumbling with a key or, or trying to
- 43:17enter a combination that that that doesn't match.
- 43:22So in my mind, when I think of putting anything in a vay, it is
- 43:28for the sole purpose to facilitate the ritual work that
- 43:32takes place there, the right ritual work, either the
- 43:36combination to that lock, as it were.
- 43:40So I mean, maybe if the, the, the, the Vey was a dedication to
- 43:47Thor himself, you know, and sort of got the, the Thor being, you
- 43:53know, the God that that is most associated with blacksmiths and,
- 43:56and the forge and all of that. And everything that was done in
- 44:00that vey was a dedication and was ritual to, to invoke Thor.
- 44:06Then the coal forge would probably be one of the most
- 44:09powerful things you could put in that space.
- 44:12If you know your, your vey is, is a mixed thing to, to, to
- 44:15connect with all of the gods, both Acer and Vanier.
- 44:19I don't know how how well that would fit.
- 44:24Again, you know, don't you don't have to take my word for it.
- 44:27But if you're asking, you know, my thoughts or opinions, I think
- 44:31knowing what the purpose of the vey is and, and what it's
- 44:34intended for is, again, it's sacred space.
- 44:36It's, it's, it's design is to be the, the place that the people
- 44:39can go to access the holy and have and get access to the holy.
- 44:45So if the things that are being put into the vey facilitate that
- 44:48and can work towards that, then that's all well and good 'cause,
- 44:55you know, we don't know all of what things were involved or
- 44:58included in, in, in Groves, sacred Groves.
- 45:03There might be some old laws that, that, that prohibit
- 45:06certain items, you know, metal maybe being one of them.
- 45:09I don't, I can't, I can't quote for sure a source.
- 45:13I feel like I've heard that somewhere.
- 45:15I just don't know where. And I don't want to go on record
- 45:17as saying that's for sure, but it's possible.
- 45:19And I would have to look more into it to know if that's a
- 45:23thing. But yeah, there's, there's,
- 45:28there's my answer to that. I hope I answered it well.
- 45:33I can't speak on his behalf of that.
- 45:35That's pretty great answer. And upon that I know I had a
- 45:40point I wanted to make. Yeah, but actually I have a
- 45:42question for you. So I don't have a secure gear, a
- 45:51place so divinity like I have a tree in my backyard I go to to
- 45:57make offerings and, you know, to celebrate the spirits of land
- 46:02and my own backyard. But what if I have a sacred
- 46:06place, for example, the place that I've been visiting more
- 46:09times than I care to count in the last week alone.
- 46:14So this is the place that I know I can perform rituals, but this
- 46:18is a public park. Is this something that's maybe
- 46:23not advised or what are your opinions on that?
- 46:27Because honestly, like I've only wanted to share and I have
- 46:29shared the, this last couple weeks, I just this place, this
- 46:34is where I find my divinity and my inspiration, whether it be
- 46:40I'm feeling happy, inspired, sad, depressed, or seeking
- 46:45inspiration again. It's just it's that kind of
- 46:48place for me, but it's very unconventional.
- 46:51Right. Yeah, that's so much of what we
- 46:54find now and today, right. It's it's non traditional, it's
- 46:56unconventional. It's oh man, you know, I've I've
- 47:01maintained an opinion for the longest time that having ritual
- 47:11right bloat or any sort of official thing like that in a
- 47:17public space is I don't want to say like it can't be done.
- 47:22I just with the way that our world is set up and how diverse
- 47:29everything is, I don't know how effective having a public space,
- 47:37which is accessible to hundreds, if not thousands of people a
- 47:41year, how, how one can maintain the idea of a sacred growth
- 47:49under those conditions. What I do think, however, is
- 47:54that because of nature, being is what it is and as sacred as what
- 47:57it is and, and how we are part of nature, right?
- 48:01We can, we can provide our offerings, we can connect with
- 48:05spirit, we can do things that give us that fulfillment as
- 48:10spiritual beings wherever we find ourselves.
- 48:14It can be at the ocean, it can be at a public park, it can be
- 48:17in the woods, you know, 50 miles off the beaten path.
- 48:23I don't think that we are quite so limited to those conditions
- 48:30or those, those outliers for such things as I'm talking
- 48:35about, right? Connecting with spirit and, and,
- 48:37and the divinity that kind of exists within all of us, that
- 48:40the spirit that is, that is us. I think if you're taking it
- 48:44through a, from a, from a Germanic heathen lens, right?
- 48:48That the Grove, the the the vey, the space, it needs to be set in
- 48:55a place that can be properly kept and maintained as sacred
- 48:59space, you know, free of disruption from outside forces
- 49:08that that don't have any interest or investment in it.
- 49:13You know, and I know there's a lot of like work that's been
- 49:20that's been done over the years by different groups and people
- 49:24that, that, that want to host or hold public events that involve
- 49:28a ritual and or include a ritual.
- 49:30And I think it's great. It's a it's a great gesture.
- 49:32I think it's beautiful done. You know, a lot of times when
- 49:35you get to see some of the the things set up like, you know,
- 49:39mid guards bloat over Norway every year.
- 49:42You know, they really pull it off like they they get the whole
- 49:45they get the big the God poles with the but with the blood and
- 49:48and they you know, they do what it looks like to be, you know, a
- 49:53really authentic looking blow to a ritual and there's so many
- 50:01people that are there. Again, you know, I can't I'm not
- 50:03an authority on it. I just again, in my opinion, and
- 50:08I wouldn't, you know, I wouldn't turn down on the offer or the OR
- 50:11the chance to, to go and participate and see something
- 50:13like that, you know, but I don't know if I answered your, your
- 50:20question. No, you did.
- 50:21And I kind of already have my own answer and the places
- 50:27specifically have in mind will be saved for special occasions,
- 50:32but not on a regular basis. And I know I have places very
- 50:36near to my house available to me to set as such a sacred, you
- 50:41know, space for myself that I could actually 10 But also the
- 50:46your answer makes perfect sense, too, because you have such
- 50:50diverse energies and none of them, a lot of them are probably
- 50:54not going to play to our advantage.
- 50:57I mean, they have, you know, various walks of life.
- 50:59They have, you know, people who have families, you have
- 51:03Christians, you have all walks of life walking this path.
- 51:07And you have people who have, you know, reference for the
- 51:10creatures around. And there are people who walk on
- 51:13hikes who don't have that reference that throw away trash,
- 51:16for example, like. Oh yeah.
- 51:18Just seeing wrappers, water bottles, soda can, it's like,
- 51:23come on, you're coming out here to hike.
- 51:25You got to have some level of appreciation and reference for
- 51:30this place that you're, you know, enjoying and experiencing.
- 51:36Yeah, yeah, that's the thing too is, you know, because everything
- 51:39is, you know the you said that, you know, it's the diversity
- 51:44and, and, and how things may not mix or play well with each
- 51:48other. I'd go right like there's at
- 51:51least with with a heathen vey or a heathen Grove, right.
- 51:55Like, you know, that that's it's for our doing bloat to the
- 52:01heathen gods. You know, it's not just some
- 52:04public, you know, like you walk into and I hate to use these
- 52:09examples, but you know, you've been to like these old
- 52:11metaphysical stores where they got this like little altar set
- 52:13up and it's like every Tom Dick and Harry is in there and you
- 52:16got Athena, you got Zeus, you got, you know, Buddha, you know,
- 52:20you got a a statue of Frey or whatever.
- 52:22And it's like. You have such a mirror in Jesus
- 52:24too. Yeah, yeah, right.
- 52:25They got a crucifix on them, you know what I mean?
- 52:27Like. It's.
- 52:28Very. Yeah, it's wild.
- 52:29And I guess go man, all right. Kind of.
- 52:32It's almost too much to be around, really, because it's
- 52:35like you're in a melting pot, quite literally.
- 52:38Yeah. Yeah, it's Egyptian Papian over
- 52:40here, Greek Christian. Like what's going on?
- 52:43Yeah. So I don't know, like maybe
- 52:46that's just my, maybe that's just me.
- 52:51And in the sense that I think that Heathenry is Heathenry,
- 52:53right. And let's keep it such and let's
- 52:55try to preserve those traditions as what they are.
- 52:57And let's not get to let's not mix the waters up too bad.
- 53:00Let's understand, you know, how how syncretism is and that
- 53:03there's things that come from different cultures that have
- 53:05been formed and have helped build traditions, right?
- 53:07But let's what we know that is even tradition it's it's it's
- 53:11build off of that you know, unless.
- 53:12You want to keep it refined and specific rather than diluted
- 53:16and. Just right, yeah.
- 53:18Mixed together? Yeah, the mixed.
- 53:19Kind of my take on it. Because one of my closest
- 53:22friends, she's very eclectic and I love that respect that very
- 53:26much. And there is times I told you
- 53:28too, where I had my interest into MyHeritage, into the Celtic
- 53:33gods. I'm like, you know, how do you
- 53:35feel about me trying to get my attention to the Norse gods, the
- 53:37Celtic gods? And you know, it took a couple
- 53:40weeks and I'm like, this is just too much.
- 53:43I mean, you have your, your inspirations, you have your
- 53:47deities you've already established a connection with.
- 53:51And I feel like, again, to each their own.
- 53:53Some people can pull this off. Me personally, I couldn't.
- 53:56It's just when you have your daily practice, you're getting
- 54:01inertia. You're creating rituals.
- 54:03A lot of the rituals we do like waking up, making that pot of
- 54:06coffee or waking up going on that hike, or, you know, it goes
- 54:10on and on and on. But when you keep doing it, it
- 54:13just gains that energy, that momentum, and with that momentum
- 54:22carries that weight and that that power, sure, that you gave
- 54:28by doing it so very much. But then sometimes it becomes
- 54:33repetitive, boring, and then sometimes you just want to
- 54:38switch it up and, you know, explore other options.
- 54:45Yeah, I know what you mean. Like having those, those
- 54:50individual practices, the things that we, I've talked before,
- 54:53like hearth cult, you know, individual cultic practices, the
- 54:56things that you do that are unique to your spirituality, you
- 55:00know, doesn't have to be quote UN quote heathen or Pagan or
- 55:05whatever. It's just what Patrick does or
- 55:07what Jesse does or what Michael does or whoever does, you know
- 55:11what I mean? It's our, it's with a purpose
- 55:15and it's, it's our way of, you know, connecting with spirit or
- 55:20connecting with our ancestors or doing what it takes for us to
- 55:22feel fulfilled in that way. And then that's everybody should
- 55:28have that, you know, even heathens, every, you know, every
- 55:31heathen home I think is, you know, whether it's a one person
- 55:34home or a three or four person family or whatever, right?
- 55:38Those those practices, those traditions, those ways of doing
- 55:43things are unique to that family, to that person, and it
- 55:48should be preserved as such. Yeah.
- 55:53What does John Evans say here? Problem is there in America,
- 55:56people gets squeamish when it comes to bloat.
- 55:59And a lot of people in public would crap over everything
- 56:04because they're morons and are usually just trying to to grass
- 56:11stand and they would have no respect for it.
- 56:14And I've tried doing public rituals.
- 56:16Each time they failed miserably. Yeah, Yeah.
- 56:19Like I said, you know, I mean, I've gone to a couple of things
- 56:24that were staged as a public event.
- 56:28I don't wanna say stage like in, you know that it was like a it
- 56:34was, it was available to the public.
- 56:36You know, there was this is what it is.
- 56:38This is everybody knew what it was.
- 56:39Organized. Yeah, but it was, it was not, it
- 56:42was not closed off to the, the kindred or the tribe that hosted
- 56:45it, You know what I mean? Like they, they have their own
- 56:48closed off things that only their, their members can
- 56:50participate in. But then they have, you know,
- 56:54an, an open of or public thing that other people can come and
- 56:59be a part of and, and those types of things because they
- 57:01were well ordered and well structured and everybody knew
- 57:04what it was that we're, that we're engaging in and partaking
- 57:08in that ritual went off well and those rituals go off well.
- 57:14So I said, you know, everything being kind of, you know, you got
- 57:21to, you got to, I guess there's no one universal answer.
- 57:24I just, I think when it comes to like really big, major things,
- 57:27it's, it's, it's tough to, to maintain that, that, that sense
- 57:31of holiness to the ritual. When you get, when you've got
- 57:35people that are coming in that don't understand it.
- 57:38They don't have the sense of, of, of understanding what it
- 57:41means to set sacred space and to establish sacred space.
- 57:46They don't understand what that means.
- 57:49So when they come and, and they're just, I just wanted to
- 57:51see what it's like, you know, that their heart's not in it.
- 57:53They're they're, they're not coming to experience the true
- 58:00meaning of it. They're just kind of there to
- 58:02well, you know, piqued my, you know, this piqued my interest.
- 58:05Let's see what it's like. So I think in that way it's,
- 58:10it's, you know, doesn't doesn't measure up quite so well.
- 58:20And sometimes it's necessary to have that kind of experience to
- 58:22have that appreciation for when you have that designated, you
- 58:27know, sacred space place. You could actually cultures
- 58:31ceremonies with, you know, without any outside.
- 58:35I mean, I hell, I've been, I've been, I've been at, at some
- 58:38rituals that like again, they were, they were, you could feel
- 58:41the presence of the gods. At least I could.
- 58:44Or what I, you know, what I felt was was the presence of the
- 58:46holy. And then there were others where
- 58:48it was like this just feels fake.
- 58:51It didn't feel right. You know, it doesn't feel the
- 58:56the the intensity of the degree of which the that that felt was
- 59:00different. So you know, you're not going to
- 59:02get the same experience every single time.
- 59:04You know, it's kind of being realistic and being fair.
- 59:07You know, you're not going to have the same experience at
- 59:11ritual twice. You know, it's like I'm.
- 59:15Sorry. It's just like going to a
- 59:18Highland ritual. I've been the five.
- 59:21Never one is the same. Never.
- 59:23Yeah, You know, like my first time.
- 59:25It's funny. They're off in the crowd.
- 59:27They're like this big. And despite them being so far
- 59:31away, I was like, I'm there. It's my first ritual.
- 59:34I'm loving it. And there's other rituals, you
- 59:37know, these have people saying unsavory things or people who
- 59:39are clearly invited by a friend who are wearing like, a Slayer
- 59:43shirt. And you're like, what is going
- 59:45on right now? Right.
- 59:48Nothing wrong with Slayer either, you know.
- 59:50No, don't get me wrong, I love Slayer.
- 59:53You know that's not what I'm enjoying, a ritual.
- 59:59But then again, you meet people who are on your level and
- 1:00:03sometimes you talk to them afterwards and you establish a
- 1:00:06connection that you never imagined possible.
- 1:00:09Yeah, yeah. So.
- 1:00:14I think I'm ready to get to my point.
- 1:00:15Whatever. Yeah, go ahead.
- 1:00:17Yeah, let's go. So and just that's why I add to
- 1:00:23you, Jesse and anyone who's watching.
- 1:00:25I've been struggling talking because I keep hearing my voice
- 1:00:28coming back after each time I talk.
- 1:00:31It's like disrupting my concentration greatly.
- 1:00:34I'm just like oh damn. I'm sorry, that's fine.
- 1:00:38But speaking on my own behalf, again, when we, we have
- 1:00:47established that connection to the spirits of land, we see it
- 1:00:53anytime we go outside. And that's just such a beautiful
- 1:00:58experience. You know, like there's times I'm
- 1:01:01driving out to one of my parks or one of my hikes and on the
- 1:01:05way I just see like a rental hawk flying over or just perched
- 1:01:09above just kind of looking at me.
- 1:01:12Or just the other day I went to Rubber Run Park and I had a very
- 1:01:17special encounter. It's the first time I'm telling
- 1:01:21you, actually, Jesse. But so one day I was just
- 1:01:25feeling out of sorts and I didn't know what to do.
- 1:01:27I'm like, you know what, I'm off for the rest of the evening.
- 1:01:31I'm going to go to Rut Run Park. And you know, if I see some
- 1:01:33deer, some Hawks, cool, whatever.
- 1:01:36And I got in there. I was there for a good deal of
- 1:01:38time and starting to feel discouraged and I'm just like,
- 1:01:40man, I felt weak, felt horrible. I'm just like man, I just
- 1:01:46thought out loud like I just want to see some deer or a hawk
- 1:01:49and then I turn over I see 2 deer and I see a hawk fly right
- 1:01:59in front of the deer. I was speechless.
- 1:02:05Yeah, yeah, dude, those moments when, you know, it's like, OK,
- 1:02:12you know, that that moment was going to happen with or without
- 1:02:16me being there, but it did happen with me being here, you
- 1:02:22know, or you know what I mean? Like this could have happened
- 1:02:25and you couldn't have been there, but you were there.
- 1:02:33So it makes it even more special, you know, to, to, to be
- 1:02:36in their presence when they're doing their thing, you know,
- 1:02:38when they're embraced in the moment, when they're, you know.
- 1:02:43It's just like, again, engaging with that, that appreciation for
- 1:02:49our Earth, the trees, the setting of the sun, the rising
- 1:02:54of the moon. It's when you find the beauty in
- 1:02:58these things, life becomes so much more witching.
- 1:03:03And don't get me wrong, there's going to be plenty of times that
- 1:03:06sometimes I walk outside, I see an amazing moon.
- 1:03:08I'm like, eh, all right, I'll have to go back inside.
- 1:03:11And other times I'm just like, wow, really standing in awe.
- 1:03:16Yeah, yeah. Like, let me just stop here and,
- 1:03:20and appreciate this moment in time, you know, because we, we,
- 1:03:26we, we, we get so engrossed in other crap that it's, it
- 1:03:32distracts us from just the realness, the beauty of things,
- 1:03:38you know, the beauty of nature, the beauty of, of our, of our
- 1:03:41home, of ourselves, you know, and it's, you know, it's, it's
- 1:03:50there, there is beauty in darkness.
- 1:03:52There's beauty in the rough times too.
- 1:03:53Because when you see, you know, nature being brutal, you know,
- 1:03:59when, when you see things that are scary sometimes, or that,
- 1:04:03you know, that, that cause you to respond in, in fear or in
- 1:04:07alarm, or there's beauty in that too, 'cause it's part of it.
- 1:04:12It's part of all of it, you know, And it's like, I can't,
- 1:04:15you know, you can't, you can't just take the, the bright and
- 1:04:18sunshiny days, you know what I mean?
- 1:04:20You can't just think that that's all of what it is.
- 1:04:23It's, you know, sometimes the, the, the storm is, is raging
- 1:04:28hard and it doesn't seem like it's going to let up.
- 1:04:30And that's part of it. And what's really beautiful too,
- 1:04:34though, is he had these natural disasters that occur and it's
- 1:04:40downright horrible. Like those storms have passed
- 1:04:45like last year on far the mountain.
- 1:04:49You see all these place. There's this devastating and you
- 1:04:51see the outreach of the communities really sacrificing,
- 1:04:56offering everything they can. It's just that sense community
- 1:05:01after such a travesty, whether that be again, via, you know,
- 1:05:06storms or personal afflictions. Like Jesse, I've been going
- 1:05:10through a mess of time and seeing you, our tribe, you know,
- 1:05:16my friends, my family out reaching, reaching out to me,
- 1:05:20helping me. You know, it's a horrible time
- 1:05:22for just seeing all these people.
- 1:05:24And when I'm going on my hikes by myself, when I feel lost, I'm
- 1:05:27really not lost. I have so much around me and I
- 1:05:34love those forces or not necessarily with me physically.
- 1:05:38They are most certainly there spiritually.
- 1:05:42Yeah, that's, that's, that's the beauty of it, you know, that's
- 1:05:45these. And because we feel on so many
- 1:05:48levels, right, we, we can connect and feel and feel
- 1:05:52connected and feel engaged and feel part of these things,
- 1:05:55whether they're visible to the naked eye or not.
- 1:05:58It's, they're still there. And we, we, we feel them in
- 1:06:01different ways. And it's whether it's, you know,
- 1:06:04standing there and feeling the, the, I don't know.
- 1:06:07Have you ever had like, moments where you just like, feel
- 1:06:09something and there's nothing really around for you to explain
- 1:06:14or or or give a logical reason why you felt that particular
- 1:06:18thing? Yes, going back to my hikes that
- 1:06:22have been going on again is the the one time I I know I told you
- 1:06:28about I went to the the Dogwood and Woodbine trail.
- 1:06:36I finished both the trails and that's like 3 hours of hiking
- 1:06:39and I got what I wanted but I didn't and I couldn't explain
- 1:06:45why. I just felt this real deep sense
- 1:06:49of appreciation and connection to the earth.
- 1:06:53And I've been there for a while, but this something told me just
- 1:06:57like keep walking, you're meant to be here, you need to heal.
- 1:07:03It's like I almost felt like the man was, like, telling me, like
- 1:07:05Patrick. No.
- 1:07:07Yeah, you think you got what you came for, but you're just a
- 1:07:09little bit longer. Right.
- 1:07:11Yeah, We're not done with you yet.
- 1:07:14Exactly, and I hope that was revellings what you're.
- 1:07:18At yeah, yeah, exactly. You know, like, you know, I've,
- 1:07:21I've had those, those, those moments on the trail or, or, and
- 1:07:26the trail will do that. I think, you know, going out on
- 1:07:29hikes, anything that's, you know, several miles long, your
- 1:07:34endurance is going to be tested. Your, your, your will, your
- 1:07:39spirit is going to be tested on the trails.
- 1:07:42And you have to dig deep. Sometimes, man, sometimes it's,
- 1:07:44it's a tough trail and your physical body wants to give up.
- 1:07:49Your spirit is going to drive you, your spirits going to push
- 1:07:51you. And, and it, it teaches such a
- 1:07:54valuable lesson because that's life.
- 1:07:56That's life, man. Sometimes you just don't want to
- 1:07:58get up out of bed. Sometimes you don't want to get
- 1:08:00up, get dressed. Sometimes you don't want to take
- 1:08:01a shower. Sometimes you don't want to do
- 1:08:02the physical things that you need to do, but your spirit says
- 1:08:07do it anyway. I'd do it anyway.
- 1:08:12Doesn't matter if I'm sad, doesn't matter if I'm mad.
- 1:08:14Does it matter if I'm depressed? Obsessed.
- 1:08:17I do it anyway. And a lot of times, you know,
- 1:08:21we're in that mindset. For example, you know, sometimes
- 1:08:26you don't want to go for a hike or hang out with a friend or
- 1:08:30anything like that. You find yourself and to force
- 1:08:32yourself to do it when you're not feeling like I want to do
- 1:08:36it. It's very beautiful.
- 1:08:38All about the time that Burge like, wow, why didn't I do that?
- 1:08:41Why was I so scared to do that? Like, oh come on, I didn't do
- 1:08:44that again. Right.
- 1:08:46What have I been waiting for? It's just again, like sometimes
- 1:08:48we get to couple with feeling like not feeling sad.
- 1:08:53It's OK to feel sad, but sometimes you need someone like,
- 1:08:57hey, it's OK to feel sad, but come on, come back to us.
- 1:09:01Come. Back to us.
- 1:09:03Come back. Sorry to just say here Kristen
- 1:09:05is gonna go. She said she's feeling sleep
- 1:09:08coming on and she said goodnight to both of us and thanks for the
- 1:09:11advice You're welcome, Kristen. Thanks for thanks for asking
- 1:09:13first of all and. Put yourself by too.
- 1:09:17Yeah, Thanks for thanks for giving us something to think
- 1:09:20about, you know, to talk about because, you know, you're right,
- 1:09:22Patrick, it's, you know, it's, it's, I think it's easy for.
- 1:09:26I don't think, I mean, it is, it's, it's easy for all of us to
- 1:09:32get absorbed in those emotional traps.
- 1:09:38You know what I mean? It's like it's, it sucks us in,
- 1:09:41you know, when we're feeling down for, for, for a lot of
- 1:09:45people, when we're down, we're down and there's no coming up.
- 1:09:51It seems, you know, like we're just and, and if all we're
- 1:09:57there, yeah, if if all that we're doing is just there in
- 1:10:00ourselves thinking about it. But then you got like you say,
- 1:10:05you got, you got those people that love you and care for your,
- 1:10:08your family, your friends and stuff that are like, hey, get
- 1:10:12up, stand up, dust yourself off. Let's let's, let's do something,
- 1:10:16right? Let's what can I do to get your
- 1:10:17mind off of this thing? And it's not to try to again,
- 1:10:20It's not. I don't think that those
- 1:10:21gestures are are intended to be like distracting from from what
- 1:10:30you're feeling. It's more of a like.
- 1:10:33Reminder. Yeah, you know, like this, it's
- 1:10:37not, this isn't forever. Like you're feeling this way.
- 1:10:39It is what it is. But hey, you know, like there's
- 1:10:43other things too. There's there's this other stuff
- 1:10:46too. And and if, if, if we're only
- 1:10:51ever just because man, you know, life can, can really throw some
- 1:10:58shit at us. You know, nobody's exempt.
- 1:11:01It's, it's we're all, we're all going to feel it from time to
- 1:11:03time. And just how we deal with it is,
- 1:11:07is, is is really what matters. You know, I like, I like to
- 1:11:11think of that one line from The Lord of the Rings where, you
- 1:11:18know, Frodo has the ring and it's a burden and it.
- 1:11:22Sucks and. He can't handle it, you know,
- 1:11:25And he's like, I just, I wish that this thing had never come
- 1:11:28to me. I wish none of this had ever
- 1:11:30happened, you know? And Gandalf says, and so do all
- 1:11:34who live to see such times. And that's not for us to decide.
- 1:11:38All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given
- 1:11:41to us. I.
- 1:11:43Love our lives so much. You know, and it and it and it
- 1:11:47resonates in real life, you know, yes, it sucks.
- 1:11:52Yes, I hate this. Yes, it makes me sad.
- 1:11:54Yes, I'm upset. Yes, you know, I don't want to
- 1:11:58do all these things. Well, you're not alone, you
- 1:12:01know, you might be feeling it a different way than than the next
- 1:12:07person, but you're not alone in what you're feeling.
- 1:12:11So what do you do with that? You know, even the smallest
- 1:12:16things can change the course of the future.
- 1:12:18All it takes is that one step. It starts with that one step.
- 1:12:23It might seem like a big thing to have to overcome on the in
- 1:12:26the, in the grand scheme of things, but you know, hey, it
- 1:12:29starts with one step. Work towards that goal.
- 1:12:33Know what that goal is and start working towards it.
- 1:12:36If you have to chip away at it, if you have to crawl towards it,
- 1:12:39if you have to fall down a little bit along the way, but at
- 1:12:43least you know, advance push, you know, the, the, the goal at
- 1:12:50the end of it is, is worth it. And then when you reach that
- 1:12:54goal, you're better conditioned and you're better ready to, to
- 1:12:58withstand the next thing that comes along because there's
- 1:13:00going to be something else. You know, it, it's just the way
- 1:13:04it is. I, I've had a lot of of chances
- 1:13:12to reflect on my life as a young person growing up into
- 1:13:19adulthood, into the man that I am now.
- 1:13:22And even still, the man that I'm becoming as I'm growing, you
- 1:13:25know, reflecting upon the last, you know, 40 years of my life
- 1:13:33and what I can remember and where I can remember things from
- 1:13:36and seeing and being a part of another person's life who is
- 1:13:41entering into their adulthood years, you know, being a, a, a
- 1:13:47father figure, a mentor to a young man who is becoming a man.
- 1:13:53And it's time to learn things about life that our life, you
- 1:13:58know, and I go man, you know, I was that kid once and I had men
- 1:14:03in my life that helped me learn some things and then get, you
- 1:14:07know, get prepared. And that's, you know, now the
- 1:14:14now the task is upon me and I did I ask for it, right?
- 1:14:18No, I didn't. I didn't ask for this.
- 1:14:22I didn't. You're getting the opportunity
- 1:14:23and you're Susan. But I got it given to me.
- 1:14:27So what are you going to do with it, Jesse?
- 1:14:28What are you going to do with this, this gift that has been
- 1:14:31given to you? Are you going to shrug it off?
- 1:14:34Is it no big deal? And no, I didn't want to do it,
- 1:14:37so I'm not going to do it. Or are you going to man up?
- 1:14:39Are you going to step up to this situation?
- 1:14:44And I'm choosing, I'm choosing that, you know, even if it means
- 1:14:52some other things that I would rather be doing.
- 1:14:55Maybe, you know, my personal desires and this and that aren't
- 1:14:58getting met elsewhere. Like you've got, you've got
- 1:15:02other things to to be focused on now, you know, And that's what
- 1:15:08it means to serve. That's what it means to lead by
- 1:15:11deed. It's what's good for others.
- 1:15:15It's what's good for the rest. It's might be, might be tougher
- 1:15:19for the individual doing it might be tough, but you, you
- 1:15:21push through because everybody else is more important.
- 1:15:24So it's selflessness, you know, But yeah, it doesn't make it
- 1:15:34doesn't mean that it's easy. Doesn't mean that there aren't
- 1:15:36days that I go, man, you got to be kidding me, you know?
- 1:15:42Well, actually I don't like. This one question for you, since
- 1:15:46we're Speaking of the spirits of land, Jesse, for us, for myself
- 1:15:50and the viewers right now, for you, that you find yourself
- 1:15:57reconnecting with your spirit and the spirits of land.
- 1:16:01If so, where and why? Yeah.
- 1:16:04Can you, can you repeat that? Because you kind of you, you
- 1:16:07I'm. Sorry.
- 1:16:08Yeah, I'm sorry. Yeah, smoking a cigarette here.
- 1:16:10So yeah, I just my question is, Jesse, for myself and the
- 1:16:16viewers, is there a place nearby your house or where you live
- 1:16:23that you find yourself gravitating to find reconnection
- 1:16:26with their spirit and the spirits of the land?
- 1:16:29If so, why? Sure.
- 1:16:32Or where? You know why?
- 1:16:33Yeah. I mean Stones River and like
- 1:16:37Stones River is, is practically in my backyard and this and the
- 1:16:40West Fork of the Stones River, particularly, you know, you
- 1:16:44Patrick, you've been in that river with me a couple of times.
- 1:16:49And I and then the, the, the, the trails and stuff nearby,
- 1:16:55like the, the, the battlefield, the some of the trails around
- 1:17:00the Stones River battlefield in there.
- 1:17:03And good evening to Randy Royce and other heathen in the Middle
- 1:17:07Tennessee area. Clarksville Base Halen, welcome
- 1:17:09to you there, Randy. Thanks for joining.
- 1:17:12But yeah, the river has been a big part of my spirituality.
- 1:17:17My my practices have have involved connecting with the
- 1:17:21spirit of the river and especially the spirit of the
- 1:17:26Heron. The Heron has been kind of my my
- 1:17:30Filia, the one that follows and goes before me in my ritual
- 1:17:36practices. I embody, you know, I, I, I take
- 1:17:40on the form of the Heron for my deep, deep spiritual work.
- 1:17:44You know, when I need to go, when I need to be somewhere,
- 1:17:47when I need to be outside of myself.
- 1:17:51In a way, it's the Heron is what carries my Hummer, You know,
- 1:17:56that, that, that part of myself that leaves or the the part of
- 1:18:00itself, the part of the self that leaves the physical shell.
- 1:18:06And so that's, that's where. But in terms of why, why that
- 1:18:11is, it's, it's, I think it was always in me.
- 1:18:14It was, you know, I grew up near the water.
- 1:18:16I grew up near waterways. I, you know, was a lot of my,
- 1:18:23my, my native indigenous ancestry is, is rooted in the,
- 1:18:29the marshlands of the Potawamac and, and which are Algonquin
- 1:18:36Nation, First Nation folks. But the, the being here near the
- 1:18:42river as it just, it feels like home.
- 1:18:48And a lot of my private spiritual work involves being in
- 1:18:51the river it to some degree, whether I'm waiting it, whether
- 1:18:55I'm immersed in it. And it didn't matter, you know,
- 1:18:58it doesn't matter the time of year, you know, I've been out in
- 1:19:03that river when it's 100° outside.
- 1:19:05I've been out in that river when it's 30° outside.
- 1:19:08It's, it's, it's like my life. So that's why, that's why it
- 1:19:16feels so right for me to be connected and, and to find that
- 1:19:20connection in the river. It, it, it's not a, it's not a
- 1:19:25fair weather thing. It's, it's again, I've, you
- 1:19:27know, I've been out in there when it's been pouring down
- 1:19:29rain, icy rain, snow almost, you know, thunderstorms, heat waves.
- 1:19:35I was in there when I had COVID, you know, like it doesn't
- 1:19:38matter. It's just my, it's just, it's
- 1:19:41just a big part of my life. Well, thank you for answering
- 1:19:43that. And that's, yeah, I love that.
- 1:19:47And I I'm hoping you're asking me the same.
- 1:19:50Thing. Yeah.
- 1:19:50What about what about you, Jessie?
- 1:19:53Same question. Oh, man, Rattler State Park,
- 1:20:01without a doubt going back in time about a week or so ago.
- 1:20:08Again, I separate a a personal set back, if you will.
- 1:20:13And you know, Jesse, you know, I go to Reverend Park, the pine
- 1:20:21spot. They go in there a lot.
- 1:20:23And one day I'm just like looking on Google Maps.
- 1:20:28Like this place looks OK and a little too far.
- 1:20:31Oh, this place looks all right in the Babler State Park.
- 1:20:35I I've seen it before, but then I'm like, you know what?
- 1:20:40Sure, it's on the way to the other place I usually go And I
- 1:20:44went there and I had some expectation, but nowhere to why
- 1:20:50what I walked into. And again, this, this park has
- 1:20:55so many trails. Well, I say so many there's so
- 1:20:59let me walk walk you through this.
- 1:21:00So there's the Woodbine Dogwood Trail and the same parking lot
- 1:21:05and they have the Virginia Day Memorial Trail I discovered
- 1:21:11while walking the Dogwood Trail. And then there's the Esquin
- 1:21:16Trail. I told you a lot about that, so
- 1:21:21you more for that later on. That's where it's take too long
- 1:21:24to go into that one. But and then there's the pay
- 1:21:27trail. It's just going here.
- 1:21:30It's just so cool to discover the place that have so many
- 1:21:34different places you can go to. You have places where there's a,
- 1:21:40a nature educational center where you can walk a couple
- 1:21:43trails and can have little trees, have little plaques and
- 1:21:46tell you what kind of trees they are.
- 1:21:48Like wow, that's really cool because when you see these
- 1:21:50plaques like you're walking other trails, like, oh, I know
- 1:21:53what that would, that's a Dogwood tree or such and such.
- 1:21:56You know, educational, It's fun, it's immersive.
- 1:22:01You see so many different birds and I've seen deer 2 times,
- 1:22:08which is cool, but I see a lot of like birds of prey.
- 1:22:11I've seen Hawks, I've seen one bird that looks like a Falcon.
- 1:22:16But again, it's when I first came here, towards the
- 1:22:21beginning, when I first discovered this place, I was not
- 1:22:26in a good headspace. But I'm like, you know, I need
- 1:22:28to be here. And I had joked about this.
- 1:22:32My, my, my parents and my friends.
- 1:22:35I'm like, I'm falling in love with the fucking park.
- 1:22:37Like, what the Hell's going on? It's just after coming here so
- 1:22:41many times, it just really felt this uncanny, never expected
- 1:22:47sense of connection. It's just I feel like my great
- 1:22:51spirit, the gods were just kind of like, hey, This is why you're
- 1:22:55here. This is where you need to find a
- 1:22:57greater pride for healing when you're doing your nature walks
- 1:23:00to find yourself to really immerse not only in my
- 1:23:04struggles, but to not to face my struggles per SE, but understand
- 1:23:10them. And that's something that could
- 1:23:13be overlooked sometimes when we're struggling is like, you
- 1:23:17want to face it, you want to conquer, you want to get over
- 1:23:20it. Leaving me like when we're sick,
- 1:23:23Boy, how did I tell you what, when we get the flu, why is it
- 1:23:26always when it's nice outside? I'm like, come on.
- 1:23:29Like, it's like that's switching weather though, you know,
- 1:23:33Thankfully, you know, I'm all right right now with this
- 1:23:36drastic temperature change. But geez, like, it's just, yeah,
- 1:23:40yeah. Like with those struggles, you
- 1:23:41just want to Fast forward this stuff.
- 1:23:43But no, it's sometimes you just kind of like, again, that's
- 1:23:47where the muddy, the waters get a little muddy and you're like,
- 1:23:49well, you spend so much time trying to understand it.
- 1:23:53And then sometimes you're looking too deep into the abyss.
- 1:23:56And that's where things go awry. And sometimes you might need
- 1:24:01somebody or you know, some, you know, occasions that you need to
- 1:24:08have a necessary reminder to be like, OK, you've done your work
- 1:24:12in understanding it or trying to at least.
- 1:24:15And sometimes you got to get back to the fold.
- 1:24:18You have to get back to who and what has made you the man or
- 1:24:24woman or whatever title you choose to carry to be who you
- 1:24:28are. Yeah.
- 1:24:31Oh, man. You know, I think it's I think
- 1:24:32it's constant work. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:24:35I don't think that was there any saying that the river has to be
- 1:24:38cold right now. Oh, trust me, buddy, it is, it
- 1:24:41is. We've had we've had we've had
- 1:24:43enough sub freezing teens and 20s and single digit nights
- 1:24:48where these little 60° days don't do nothing to warm the
- 1:24:52river up. But, you know, let me just catch
- 1:24:56John's thing real quick. So I know that the waters here
- 1:24:59in the South Louisiana are right now, but everything under 75° is
- 1:25:02chilly to us. Yeah, you're you're yeah, you
- 1:25:04don't, you're not built for the cold.
- 1:25:08But but to that point, you know, like you're Patrick, you're
- 1:25:11talking about like facing things, you know, and, and
- 1:25:13sometimes you've got to, you know, have those reminders,
- 1:25:17whether it's a person or people or, or something to be like, I
- 1:25:21got to get back to snap out of it in a way, you know, like I
- 1:25:25gotta, I can't, I can't stay here.
- 1:25:28I can't stay in this darkness. I can't stay in this thing.
- 1:25:31Who's to say how long long enough really is?
- 1:25:35But facing those hard things. You know that This is why I, I
- 1:25:40love ordeal, right? Putting ourselves through
- 1:25:46suffering with a purpose. The cold plunges, the sweat
- 1:25:49lodges, the things that put us in an uncomfortable state of
- 1:25:53existence because it alters our reality, it alters our
- 1:25:57consciousness. It puts us in a frame of mind
- 1:25:59where you have to dig deep to get through it, right?
- 1:26:02You're not going to, if you, if you commit and say I'm going to
- 1:26:05stay in this cold ice bath for three minutes, you know, let me
- 1:26:08tell you something, 15 seconds feels like an eternity and you
- 1:26:12want to be done with it. But you got it.
- 1:26:14You got to dig deep, you got to push through and you got to, you
- 1:26:18know, yes, there's conditioning and, and what does conditioning
- 1:26:21mean? Conditioning means you don't go
- 1:26:24full bore 3 minutes right off of the RIP.
- 1:26:27It means you train, you condition yourself.
- 1:26:30You go 15 seconds one day and then the next day you do 30 and
- 1:26:34the next day you do 45 in a minute and this and that and
- 1:26:36then you build up, right? So you so my point is, is that
- 1:26:39you go in, right, You do the work and then you come back and
- 1:26:44then you go in again and you come back and you go in again.
- 1:26:46You and the more time you spend in that conditioning, the more
- 1:26:50the ordeal that you're faced with, the more conditioned you
- 1:26:55are to really get into the meat and potatoes of things.
- 1:26:58You know, so sure, right. You know, you may feel like
- 1:27:02you've been, you know, dealing with this thing for however
- 1:27:05long. Well, maybe you've gotten
- 1:27:08everything out of it that you need to right now, and staying
- 1:27:11there is just going to stagnate. It's not going to provide any
- 1:27:14more growth. So let me come back.
- 1:27:15Let me take a lesson that I picked up from this experience,
- 1:27:18and I'm going to come back and I'm going to apply it.
- 1:27:22And then I'm ready to go back in again.
- 1:27:23And I'm going to spend a little bit more time and I'm going to
- 1:27:25dig deeper and then analyze some of the more, you know, minuscule
- 1:27:32things, the more finite things, right?
- 1:27:33And then really do some more digging and then you come back.
- 1:27:37You don't stay there, you come back.
- 1:27:40It's, you know, we go to the gym to work out and then we come
- 1:27:42back and we apply the strengths that we've obtained through
- 1:27:46working out in our day-to-day lives.
- 1:27:48And, and we, we go and we, we, we engage with our, you know,
- 1:27:52our spirit in nature for those times in solitude where we need
- 1:27:58to receive a lesson, we need to receive that medicine.
- 1:28:00And then we come back and we apply the things in our
- 1:28:03day-to-day lives. And then when the thing that
- 1:28:05that caused us to feel that way pops up again, we come, we're,
- 1:28:08we're able to, to, to manage it. We're able to better deal with
- 1:28:11it. Why?
- 1:28:12Because we've gone through that ordeal.
- 1:28:13We've been conditioned to do so. And it's a constant thing.
- 1:28:17It doesn't just end, you know, when it ends, this physical
- 1:28:22shell has expired. And then we got another stage.
- 1:28:26We have another layer. We have another form of
- 1:28:28existence to to to meet and to go through and who knows what.
- 1:28:32That's Lawrence. Yeah.
- 1:28:33But wait, there's no, you know, let's see it.
- 1:28:40Michael Thacker says it might be the whiskey in the rum tonight.
- 1:28:43But it seems that just about everything I wanted to ask for
- 1:28:46the last 30-40 minutes, you 2 have been you, you 2 have
- 1:28:50started bantering on it's it's hit me in a good way.
- 1:28:54That's. Awesome, man.
- 1:28:56That's what these live streams are for.
- 1:28:57You know, I like, I like the real time interaction.
- 1:29:00I like the real time responses 'cause I never know, you know, I
- 1:29:03can look at an analytics page on how much my podcast is engaging
- 1:29:07people or this or that, but that doesn't really tell me much of
- 1:29:09anything real. This is real to me, having the
- 1:29:12real life interactions, the real time interactions, I should say,
- 1:29:16you know. And I want to share something,
- 1:29:18too, on that note with all the listeners now.
- 1:29:21I mean, Jesse, you're already aware of this.
- 1:29:24So listeners, you know, tonight I was feeling a certain kind of
- 1:29:28way this evening, you know, lost my struggles and setbacks and
- 1:29:32just in my rut. And Jesse just gave me the
- 1:29:35invitation. And I took some time to really
- 1:29:41not only understand how I'm feeling, but also seizing
- 1:29:43opportunity. And like I mentioned earlier in
- 1:29:45the stream is sometimes when we push ourselves to step outside
- 1:29:51of our comfort zone. It wasn't really comfort zone,
- 1:29:54but I was like, you know, complacent.
- 1:29:56And coming out of that shell, that mindset has done me a lot
- 1:30:02of good. More importantly, is this again,
- 1:30:07like we're talking about just now, is this coming back to the
- 1:30:10fold, coming back to, you know, where we need to be?
- 1:30:14You know, and like again, we'll all come back.
- 1:30:18Again, speaking collectively, all of us who are struggling
- 1:30:21because we all are in some way or shape or form.
- 1:30:24But sometimes, you know, we got to get back to it eventually.
- 1:30:27But for now, you know, our batteries are charged less, you
- 1:30:30know, persevere. And you know, whether that be a
- 1:30:35few hours, a few days, a few weeks, you know, hey, progress
- 1:30:38is progress. And it's not a race.
- 1:30:40It's at our own pace. This is something that's it's
- 1:30:43easy to fall into those snares. You know, not to go on a tangent
- 1:30:47or anything, but you know, society has expectations and is
- 1:30:50shown on social media. And though we share our personal
- 1:30:55experiences and plights, it's very unfair in the grand scheme
- 1:30:59of things. And when it gets political
- 1:31:02again, Jesse, you, my, my Ken and my family know I'm very
- 1:31:07unmotivated and uninterested because there's too many things
- 1:31:12in our practices that can be corrupted by that.
- 1:31:16But I'm not going to touch on that too much because we're
- 1:31:18having our energy and all that. Not to get included by that,
- 1:31:21but. Yeah, no, man, look, I just, I
- 1:31:27do want to say, man, you know, like not everybody knows what's
- 1:31:31going on in the background with with this, you know, and the
- 1:31:34fact is that I did, I hit you up on a random, you know, hey, I'm
- 1:31:38doing this in two hours. You want to join me?
- 1:31:41And, and, you know, you were, you were in a space, you know,
- 1:31:46you were, you were doing your thing.
- 1:31:47And, and I said, look, man, no pressure, right?
- 1:31:49It's your choice. I also gave you some things to
- 1:31:52say. I gave, you know, some things to
- 1:31:53think about. I said some things out of love,
- 1:31:56you know, and I'm like, hey, it's, it's your choice.
- 1:31:59And I wouldn't have thought one way or the other about your
- 1:32:01brother that if you, if you didn't show up tonight, it, it
- 1:32:03wouldn't have changed anything. But I got to say, you know, the
- 1:32:06fact that you're here and that you took the time and you and,
- 1:32:09and you wanted to, you know, it was your choice.
- 1:32:13Uh huh. Yeah, it was your choice.
- 1:32:14I didn't make you do this. You chose this and I'm glad you
- 1:32:18chose this. I think you've, you've brought a
- 1:32:21lot and, and contributed a lot to the stream, to the, to the
- 1:32:25broadcast, to the podcast for this week.
- 1:32:27This is kind of like, I like to think this is almost like a
- 1:32:30monthly touch base, you know, where people get a chance to, to
- 1:32:33hear from Patrick to as much as they hear from me because
- 1:32:37you're, you're contributing to this whole thing as well.
- 1:32:41And I'm really proud of you for for reaching a point that you
- 1:32:47decided you wanted to be here. It's great and I appreciate it
- 1:32:52so. Thanks.
- 1:32:52I appreciate it. Even in equal parts, if not
- 1:32:55greater in some regards, just, you know, it's very nice to have
- 1:32:59people who are there to challenge me because I feel like
- 1:33:02we're in a society a lot of times that people compliment how
- 1:33:06you're feeling more so to the level they don't want to get
- 1:33:09involved. And again, no judgement given
- 1:33:13from that point because again, we all have separate lives to
- 1:33:17live. We have things that we talked
- 1:33:19about and a lot of things we don't talk about and rightly so.
- 1:33:22But again, it's just nice to have those challengers like you
- 1:33:27and, you know, some other individuals as well.
- 1:33:30It's just really, you know, again, sometimes like we're in
- 1:33:34that dark space, sometimes we like we're struggling to keep
- 1:33:38our head, but well, our head above water.
- 1:33:41And sometimes we start sinking and we need that hand immerse
- 1:33:46itself. And when a hand is coming from
- 1:33:49above, a situation above you, but often times those people,
- 1:33:54those hands are coming down are also submerged as well.
- 1:33:58And our, our hardships and you know, even our endeavors,
- 1:34:03sometimes we're trying to figure something out, whether it be a
- 1:34:06new job, a new hobby, It's, it's tricky.
- 1:34:10And. Sometimes, you know, we're so
- 1:34:11enraptured in the idea of being doing something right.
- 1:34:15It's like, well, it's like I told you with group chats, it's
- 1:34:19like, man, I'm not talking about anything.
- 1:34:22I'm just like scared to say anything and I'm scared to come
- 1:34:26back to this because like I feel like I'm not doing a good job.
- 1:34:29Well, if I'm not really doing a good job, quote UN quote, it
- 1:34:34would have been addressed, but it wasn't.
- 1:34:36It's just. Yeah, well, I like the fact,
- 1:34:40like you say, you know, it's a hand coming down to to to lift
- 1:34:43you up, you know, and sometimes those hands need to pick up more
- 1:34:47than other times, right? Sometimes you need a bigger leg
- 1:34:51up. Other times that hand, that
- 1:34:54gesture is more of a presence to be like, Hey, man, I'm here, but
- 1:35:03also you need to be here. Stand up, get up.
- 1:35:07I'll, I'll help you out. But you got to put, you got to
- 1:35:10put the work in, man. You got to stand on your own 2
- 1:35:12feet here like it's I'm here to support you.
- 1:35:15I'm not here to do it for you. Sometimes there's that need to,
- 1:35:21I got to carry you, you know what I mean?
- 1:35:25Other times it's more of a just a that, that emotional support,
- 1:35:28that, that, that, that, you know, psychological support.
- 1:35:31The, the, the spiritual support is I've, I, you know, I've had
- 1:35:35times too, man, where I've been carried more than I've walked,
- 1:35:40you know, for, for, for a stretch, you know, sometimes I
- 1:35:43just didn't have it in me and I needed to break down and I
- 1:35:46needed to just be vulnerable. I needed to, I needed to bear it
- 1:35:50all and just be like I can't right now.
- 1:35:53And I had people in my life and still do who understood that and
- 1:35:57realized that I was having that moment where I just, I needed to
- 1:36:01be, you know, it's, it's, it's, it's the thing about love.
- 1:36:10It's the thing about compassion, you know, is, is understanding
- 1:36:15when to apply the pressure and when to let off.
- 1:36:20It's, it's, it's a delicate balance.
- 1:36:23Compassion is, I feel 'cause there is, there's that, there's
- 1:36:28that tendency sometimes when you feel like, I know they've got it
- 1:36:31in them, they've got, it's in there, right?
- 1:36:34And you and you want to see them do it.
- 1:36:37And then, and then that, that's not what they need.
- 1:36:40You know, that's not what's needed at the time.
- 1:36:42It's, it's a softer approach. Yeah, yeah, we are, we are,
- 1:36:49we're all experiencing different things at different times.
- 1:36:51And, and it's good to have people in our lives that can,
- 1:36:57that know each other, that know one another, that know what is
- 1:37:00needed, right? Or even ideas, you know, like
- 1:37:04earlier, going back to early in the podcast, like the one
- 1:37:08person, I forgot the name, but you know, practicing, you know,
- 1:37:12alone. Sometimes we need those ideas,
- 1:37:16you know, or the one gentleman mentioning the forge.
- 1:37:19I mean, I don't know heathenry and paganism or Norse paganism
- 1:37:25as well as you, but I felt in my mind you were saying a lot.
- 1:37:29What I was thinking is like, if you feel a strong poor or should
- 1:37:33do something, do it because you shouldn't ignore that call.
- 1:37:38You know, like going on my hikes, going back to that, I
- 1:37:42told you about the Six Mile hike again, I'm still trying to
- 1:37:46figure out this trail because it's very it's not super
- 1:37:50familiar with me, but you know, it's something that you know, if
- 1:37:54you feel a call to do something to change, you know, your
- 1:37:57practices or your hobbies, your career path, don't ignore that
- 1:38:02call. You know, or you hear you're
- 1:38:06feeling a certain way. If you get a reminder or several
- 1:38:11reminders from a loved one and a best friend, you know it's OK to
- 1:38:16feel the way you're feeling Again, it's just but.
- 1:38:20Yeah. Yeah, don't get too complacent
- 1:38:24because just like the seasons, you know, like I thought spring
- 1:38:27would arrive much sooner than it has, but hey, you know, it's
- 1:38:31running its course. Yeah, dude as hell.
- 1:38:33It's still February. Still like a little bit.
- 1:38:36I told my friend like, oh, I guess this is the last snow
- 1:38:39this, you know, Nope, I'm done talking now.
- 1:38:41We're done here. Catching the time out now,
- 1:38:45Missouri. So sorry, Missourians.
- 1:38:48You know I said it. Yeah, hell, man, we could still
- 1:38:52get, we could still get a Wicked Snow in March, you know?
- 1:38:55I'm OK with March, but April especially later in April around
- 1:39:00my birthday if I get snow I'm going to cry because I'm already
- 1:39:04prepared for spring by that point.
- 1:39:08Well, as long as it doesn't snow next month when I'm in North
- 1:39:11Carolina. For the Viking experience, that
- 1:39:13would be. Cool, I so wish I could join you
- 1:39:15there brother. But you know, money is funny.
- 1:39:18Many of us. Yeah, which by the way, for
- 1:39:22those folks not don't know, Oxford, NC, the weekend of March
- 1:39:2622nd, 23rd, I'll be there at the Viking Experience.
- 1:39:30You can find out more at the vikingexperience.com.
- 1:39:33But it is an annual event. This year they're doing it 2
- 1:39:35weekends, so 22nd and 23rd and then the weekend after that.
- 1:39:40So they're doing it 2 weekends end of March.
- 1:39:43But I will be there the the weekend of the 22nd, 23rd with a
- 1:39:45tent or you know, a canopy, whatever you want to call it,
- 1:39:49providing rune reading services. And you can find out more on my
- 1:39:57social media pages on Facebook and Instagram.
- 1:40:01I think I've posted something on my YouTube channel as well.
- 1:40:04But when this comes out for the audio platform listeners like
- 1:40:07Spotify and stuff. If you're interested and want to
- 1:40:09find out more, they'll be information LinkedIn the in the
- 1:40:14podcast show notes. But again, I will be there 2
- 1:40:18days, it's Saturday and Sunday in Oxford, NC.
- 1:40:21You can buy your tickets at the vikingexperience.com and then I
- 1:40:24will be there on those grounds to provide room reading
- 1:40:29services. So if you're in the area and you
- 1:40:30want to come out to the Viking Experience, there's a lot of
- 1:40:34great things going on there, a lot of cool vendors, a lot of
- 1:40:37of, of you know, just really cool things that I've seen.
- 1:40:40It's my first time experiencing it or going to this event.
- 1:40:43But from what I've seen in the past, it's going to be an
- 1:40:45awesome good time. Even if you just come by my tent
- 1:40:49and say hi, grab a picture, tag me on your socials, whatever, it
- 1:40:52would be cool to see you. And just you had a question
- 1:40:55before I do. So many of the viewers may or
- 1:40:59may not have the opportunity to get a room ridden from you.
- 1:41:03But as far as room sets go, if you don't mind sharing, if you
- 1:41:07have any room sets in mind, you're going to bring to the
- 1:41:09biking experience? Well, I mean, I'm not going to
- 1:41:14be making any to sell, just be providing my services of reading
- 1:41:18runes. And I have one set of runes that
- 1:41:20I use for reading that I do publicly.
- 1:41:25So I I mean, I have multiple sets of runes that I have the
- 1:41:30one set that I use to looks like Patrick dropped for a second.
- 1:41:35He'll be back, I'm sure or hopefully.
- 1:41:38But Yep, here he comes. Let's bring him back on here.
- 1:41:40Here you are. Yeah, I was like, what happened
- 1:41:43there? It's.
- 1:41:43Yeah, he dropped for a second, but I was saying is I, I'm not
- 1:41:47going to make any rune sets to bring or sell.
- 1:41:50I'm just offering my services. But the rune set, the rune set
- 1:41:55that I use for that is the same set that I use for my patrons on
- 1:42:01Patreon for public readings that I do.
- 1:42:04It's the Maplewood set from a branch of a tree from our from
- 1:42:10our tree in our yard here that we had a trim and, and pruning
- 1:42:15up some years ago. So I've I, I have a, a rune set
- 1:42:18that I use for that. And it's my set.
- 1:42:21Nobody else uses it. I use it.
- 1:42:26So that'll be what I use. Yeah.
- 1:42:29But yeah, I think we're going to wrap this one up here.
- 1:42:33And I appreciate everybody that has tuned in and watched tonight
- 1:42:37on the live stream to Michael Thacker, Randy Royce, John and
- 1:42:44Kristen, and even to the fine gentleman, what's his name?
- 1:42:51Wesley. He had some choices.
- 1:42:53Oh, yeah. Wesley.
- 1:42:54Yeah, he was, I don't know. That was a bot account or what
- 1:42:56That was a that was a rando that came through just like Jesus is
- 1:43:00all. He's mad at you.
- 1:43:02He's going to tell you about it or what?
- 1:43:03I don't know. But even even even for the
- 1:43:06engagement, I think nothing else.
- 1:43:07Thank you for that. I appreciate that, you old dirty
- 1:43:11bastard, you. But anyway, Patrick, do you have
- 1:43:15anything else that you want to say to people before we before
- 1:43:17we wrap this up? Yes, never underestimate the
- 1:43:24healing powers of being out in nature.
- 1:43:26You know me personally, again, I have places that I can visit, be
- 1:43:31it near or far, but being out there helps a lot so go hide.
- 1:43:39Good advice. Yes, get out there, get your
- 1:43:41feet in the ground, get your face in the sun, Right.
- 1:43:46Just be out there. Be a part of it.
- 1:43:49Have a good night to you as well.
- 1:43:51And to to Randy and to John and everybody.
- 1:43:53Good night and thank you. Tell Jesus to go make us some
- 1:43:57tacos. Yeah, I already make some really
- 1:44:00good tacos. All right, folks.
