Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on everybody? Welcome into this edition of
- 0:12Speaker 1: the Checko Daily. It's Andrew de Checo here from Insidethbirds
- 0:16Speaker 1: dot com. Well, there's news out of Eagles Land Monday morning,
- 0:20Speaker 1: and it doesn't sound particularly good as it pertains to
- 0:24Speaker 1: Lane Johnson, Eagles right tackle, the best in the world,
- 0:28Speaker 1: the best in the business, and Adam Schefter from ESPN
- 0:31Speaker 1: says that Eagles five time All Pro offensive tackle Lane
- 0:34Speaker 1: Johnson suffered a list frank injury during Sunday Night's win
- 0:38Speaker 1: over the Lions. For sources, it is not expected to
- 0:41Speaker 1: be a season ending injury, but he could be headed
- 0:43Speaker 1: to injured reserve. It's a tough break for Lane Johnson
- 0:47Speaker 1: this year, who's battled foot, ankle, stinger, and he's been
- 0:54Speaker 1: playing at such a high level and has throughout his career.
- 0:59Speaker 2: It's certainly a damper.
- 1:01Speaker 1: And when you're an Eagles offense that struggle to sustain
- 1:05Speaker 1: any sort of consistency, it's not something.
- 1:10Speaker 2: That you want to take lightly.
- 1:13Speaker 1: And given Lane Johnson's age and situations like that, you
- 1:18Speaker 1: have to always look at it and be a little
- 1:21Speaker 1: bit more concerned than you ordinarily would. That's not an
- 1:24Speaker 1: injury to be taken lightly, certainly not someone who plays
- 1:28Speaker 1: that position, who relies on his athleticism and things like that.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And it's going to be a big loss for the
- 1:33Speaker 1: Eagles because you can make an argument that, well, you
- 1:36Speaker 1: don't have to make an argument. He's one of the
- 1:38Speaker 1: most important players on the team. I don't do rankings,
- 1:40Speaker 1: That's not how I operate. But it's going to be
- 1:44Speaker 1: a huge loss for an Eagles offensive line that has
- 1:47Speaker 1: been battled by battling injuries this season, whether it's Cam Jurgen's,
- 1:53Speaker 1: Landon Dickerson, Lane Johnson, Tyler Stein's been healthy, Jordan mylottis battled.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Through you know some things.
- 2:02Speaker 1: You know, I guess he mentioned back in the summer
- 2:04Speaker 1: or whenever it was that the season that they had
- 2:06Speaker 1: last year.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Really, you know, it takes a toe on you.
- 2:10Speaker 1: So Lane Johnson, We're gonna have to wait and see
- 2:13Speaker 1: the severity of it and the specifics. But right now
- 2:16Speaker 1: it looks like he will be well, he could be
- 2:20Speaker 1: headed into reserve, and that means that Fred Johnson, the
- 2:24Speaker 1: Eagles do it all tackle. He's there a swing tackle
- 2:28Speaker 1: on game day, he stepped in and done a nice job.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Hey, it's Jeff Mosher and if you have a family
- 2:33Speaker 3: and kids at home, like me, you always want them
- 2:36Speaker 3: to be fully protected. That's why I'm thrilled to be

- 2:45Speaker 3: you could actually stop someone from breaking into your home
- 2:47Speaker 3: before they got inside, why wouldn't you. Traditional security systems
- 2:51Speaker 3: only react after a break in, But simply Safe is
- 2:54Speaker 3: different because it stops crimes before they happen. With active

- 3:12Speaker 3: they're being watched on camera and police is on the way.

- 3:44Speaker 2: He will be the guy to step in.
- 3:45Speaker 1: He had a nice outing against the Lions, at least
- 3:48Speaker 1: upon first watch. We'll see how he's able to hold
- 3:51Speaker 1: up for the long period of time. But that trade
- 3:53Speaker 1: that Howie Roseman was able to execute to get Fred
- 3:55Speaker 1: Johnson back in Philadelphia from the Jacksonville Jaguars looks all
- 3:59Speaker 1: the more important.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Right now, and really shrewd, I don't need to.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Say how impact how impacted the Eagles could be without
- 4:05Speaker 1: Lane Johnson. The Eagles are fifteen to twenty three in
- 4:08Speaker 1: games in which Lane Johnson doesn't appear, and they also
- 4:12Speaker 1: have a good track record with Fred Johnson in there
- 4:14Speaker 1: at tackle as well. So optimistic that Frey can step
- 4:18Speaker 1: in there with the pieces that they already have and
- 4:21Speaker 1: steady the ship until Lane Johnson comes back. Will wait
- 4:24Speaker 1: for further information and we'll see where it goes from there.
- 4:27Speaker 1: And I just want to talk a little bit about
- 4:30Speaker 1: the Eagles defensive dominance yesterday against the Detroit Lions. I mean,
- 4:36Speaker 1: from powar to post, you can look at every player
- 4:40Speaker 1: starting in that defense, and they all made a play
- 4:44Speaker 1: you can look across the defensive line, the linebacker situation,
- 4:48Speaker 1: the secondary, and every player.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Had and made a noticeable impact on that game.
- 4:56Speaker 1: But I think the player who maybe shined the and
- 5:00Speaker 1: I wrote a story about this for Inside the Birds
- 5:02Speaker 1: dot Com, is linebacker Nakobe Dean and I explain why
- 5:07Speaker 1: in my story because Nakobe is a tone setter. He's
- 5:12Speaker 1: extremely physical, he's a leader, an on field coach, but
- 5:16Speaker 1: he's a good blitzer, and I think more than anything,
- 5:20Speaker 1: it's the mindset that he brings, the physicality, the play
- 5:24Speaker 1: on their terms, and when you have a player who's
- 5:27Speaker 1: able to do all those things be a positive influence
- 5:30Speaker 1: to others and everyone there has different leadership qualities. Zach
- 5:34Speaker 1: Bond's great, Jordan Davis is great, Red Blanket Ship's great.
- 5:39Speaker 1: They have a number of players who can do that,
- 5:41Speaker 1: But I think there's something about na Kobe that just
- 5:45Speaker 1: radiates leadership. He's a natural born leader. He has a
- 5:50Speaker 1: coach's mindset about him where he's wiser beyond his years.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I think he's only twenty five years old.
- 5:57Speaker 3: And.
- 5:58Speaker 1: There's something that he brings to the defense that gets
- 6:02Speaker 1: everybody fired up and he holds everyone accountable. He wants
- 6:05Speaker 1: to play the standard, he's not worried about personal accolades,
- 6:09Speaker 1: and he's extremely extremely physical against the run.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 6:17Speaker 3: long lines, We've all been there, but when it comes
- 6:20Speaker 3: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is
- 6:25Speaker 3: the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly,
- 6:29Speaker 3: with plenty of free parking. You'll be in and out fast,
- 6:32Speaker 3: no hassle, no waiting, and they don't just care about convenience.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Camden Apothecary is all about the guest experience. Their staff
- 6:40Speaker 3: makes sure you feel taken care of every time you
- 6:44Speaker 3: walk in. Plus, they carry only the best quality cannabis
- 6:47Speaker 3: at the fairest prices, so whether you're stocking up for
- 6:51Speaker 3: the tailgate, the watch party, or celebrating a big win,
- 6:55Speaker 3: you know you're getting the good stuff without overpaying. They
- 6:58Speaker 3: even show love to the com unity with specials for fans, students,
- 7:03Speaker 3: service members, and healthcare pros. Camdn Apothecary top quality cannabis,
- 7:08Speaker 3: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans. Twenty
- 7:12Speaker 3: one and up.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Talk to him for five minutes and one worthy you're
- 7:16Speaker 1: going to probably hear as it pertains to defense is
- 7:19Speaker 1: physical at least a few times, because that's something he
- 7:24Speaker 1: believes in, but he lives it as well, and you
- 7:28Speaker 1: just go out there and watch the way that he plays,
- 7:29Speaker 1: and it's super evident. You pair him now with Zach
- 7:32Speaker 1: Bond and they're both playing at all pro level. And
- 7:37Speaker 1: that's not to take away from Jehid Campbell, because I
- 7:39Speaker 1: think Jahid Campbell has done some really nice things.
- 7:42Speaker 2: As a rookie this year.
- 7:44Speaker 1: It would serve the Eagles well to keep him in
- 7:46Speaker 1: the mix in the rotation, get him snaps they're going
- 7:49Speaker 1: to because he does offer a little bit of a
- 7:51Speaker 1: different skill set than na Kobe does in terms of
- 7:56Speaker 1: just the ranginess, the length, and I think he has
- 7:59Speaker 1: a unique He has unique dimensions that lend itself to
- 8:04Speaker 1: being able to cover tight ends maybe a little bit better.
- 8:07Speaker 1: But as an overall linebacker as expected as I mean
- 8:11Speaker 1: Nikobe's been in the league since twenty twenty two, he's
- 8:14Speaker 1: the better option. And it's very clear to me and
- 8:18Speaker 1: I'm sure all of you who have watched the Eagles
- 8:20Speaker 1: defense since Nakobe was inserted against the Minnesota Vikings that
- 8:23Speaker 1: Vic Vangio has a lot of confidence and trust in
- 8:26Speaker 1: the Kobe. Again not saying that he doesn't for Jihad,
- 8:30Speaker 1: but there's something to be said for a player whose
- 8:33Speaker 1: intelligence football IQ is on a completely different level. He
- 8:37Speaker 1: reads and diagnoses things at a very quick pace, and
- 8:44Speaker 1: he's just played a lot more football, so naturally, when
- 8:48Speaker 1: he's out there, he's seen pretty much everything that you're
- 8:50Speaker 1: going to throw at him, and he anticipates. He plays
- 8:53Speaker 1: with instincts. Those are things that come with time. But
- 8:57Speaker 1: where the defense is right now, you can see that
- 8:59Speaker 1: Vic van and has a preference.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Hey, I still like a good night out, but I'm
- 9:04Speaker 3: not always in the mood to drink, and that's why
- 9:07Speaker 3: I looked for a great alternative and I found one.

- 10:31Speaker 1: And Nikobe hasn't given Vic a reason to really spell
- 10:36Speaker 1: him at any point. I think when you look at
- 10:39Speaker 1: the linebacker situation last year or even the year before,
- 10:42Speaker 1: I got back to that open practice, not last summer,
- 10:45Speaker 1: the one.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Before it that that was where Nikobe was.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I think Kenny Gainwell got him a couple times in
- 10:53Speaker 1: space in the receiving game, and I know that there
- 10:56Speaker 1: were maybe some who were questioning Nikobe's ability for a
- 11:00Speaker 1: coverage aspect, but he's really refined that area. I go
- 11:05Speaker 1: back to two plays that he had Sunday night against
- 11:09Speaker 1: the Lions where he was in coverage against Jamison Williams
- 11:12Speaker 1: and Ammra Saint Brown, and they were both in completions.
- 11:19Speaker 1: There is a play where I believe he defended a
- 11:23Speaker 1: wheel route. Well maybe the week before that against the Packers.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Teams are going to look to try to do that,
- 11:30Speaker 1: but I think that he's proven that he should be.
- 11:34Speaker 2: An every down linebacker or close to it.
- 11:37Speaker 1: You know, I think you're seeing him start to take
- 11:40Speaker 1: over in a real way if you look at the
- 11:42Speaker 1: snapshare from the game, and in fact, I'm going to
- 11:47Speaker 1: take a look at that in a moment, because I
- 11:49Speaker 1: think that that really sheds a little bit of light
- 11:52Speaker 1: as to the scenario and how players are sort of
- 11:56Speaker 1: slotting in in their roles down the stretch. Here, let's
- 12:01Speaker 1: see Nakobe Dean played forty snaps. That was sixty eight
- 12:06Speaker 1: percent of the total, Johi Campbell played twenty snaps. That's
- 12:09Speaker 1: thirty four percent of the total. Okay, so you're seeing
- 12:15Speaker 1: a little bit of a balance, and that's favoring Nakobe
- 12:18Speaker 1: and I mean, frankly, that should be expected. But Johi
- 12:21Speaker 1: Campbell's going to remain involved and that's something that you
- 12:25Speaker 1: can feel pretty confident. And of course he's going to
- 12:27Speaker 1: be He has a big future here and he has
- 12:31Speaker 1: a defined role within the defense right now. Brandon Graham,
- 12:35Speaker 1: for those wondering, played eight snaps. That was fourteen percent
- 12:38Speaker 1: of the total. Trying to get some key guys here.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Moro Jomo played thirty seven snaps. That's sixty three percent
- 12:46Speaker 1: of a total. Jayalen Carter fifty three snaps ninety percent
- 12:50Speaker 1: of the defensive total. The players who didn't come off
- 12:53Speaker 1: the field from the defensive side Cooper Dejen, Red Blanket, Ships,
- 12:57Speaker 1: Zach Bond, Quinnon, Mitchell, and Drew mccoober. They all played
- 13:01Speaker 1: fifty nine of fifty nine snaps. From an offensive perspective, here,
- 13:10Speaker 1: let's see Grant Kakata thirty four snaps forty seven percent
- 13:14Speaker 1: of the snaps. Kylon Grantson fifteen percent, twenty one or
- 13:18Speaker 1: fifteen snaps twenty one percent.
- 13:22Speaker 2: That's a lot.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a lot for both of those tight ends.
- 13:26Speaker 1: It's a shame because Cameron Latsu played just one snap
- 13:30Speaker 1: and one snap on offense, and he made He laid
- 13:33Speaker 1: a really nice block on Aiden Hutchinson on a play
- 13:36Speaker 1: than which looked like it was going to be a
- 13:39Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley one yard or touchdown run. They ended up
- 13:42Speaker 1: moving it to the one after deeming that he didn't
- 13:45Speaker 1: get in. But cam Latsu on his one play made
- 13:48Speaker 1: a nice block. Looked like in the Packers game there
- 13:52Speaker 1: was a play where he ran a wheel route.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Up the right sideline.
- 13:58Speaker 1: I want to say so I would like to see
- 14:00Speaker 1: cam Lato involved in the offense a little bit. Again,
- 14:03Speaker 1: when you're looking at the personnel groupings, I think I've
- 14:07Speaker 1: seen some a willingness from Kevin Patula to shake things up.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Whether it was Will Shipley being involved and Tank Bigsy
- 14:14Speaker 1: being involved more in the opening and throughout the game
- 14:17Speaker 1: against the Packers, or whether it was Kylie Grantson receiving
- 14:22Speaker 1: two targets against the Lions, one on that third and five.
- 14:28Speaker 1: You know, Tank pigsby having a role, they're just finding
- 14:33Speaker 1: different ways to get players involved. And you have to
- 14:36Speaker 1: wonder if you're going to a lot, if you can
- 14:39Speaker 1: do something to get someone like Cameron Lattu, who was
- 14:42Speaker 1: a terrific blocker, extremely physical, rangey on special teams, if
- 14:48Speaker 1: he starts to rack up double digit tackles on special teams,
- 14:51Speaker 1: I can tell you this right now, he has special
- 14:54Speaker 1: teams Pro Bowl upside. I've seen a lot from him.
- 14:59Speaker 1: He he prides himself in his job. But take a
- 15:02Speaker 1: look at him on kickoff, just taking charge and running
- 15:05Speaker 1: down the field, dominating the person in front of him,
- 15:08Speaker 1: clearing the way and getting after it and from a
- 15:12Speaker 1: tackling prowess perspective and just playing physical, willing to mix
- 15:16Speaker 1: it up with the other team. And you know, that's
- 15:19Speaker 1: something that I think is inherent and he has that,
- 15:22Speaker 1: and I believe that he can be an asset in
- 15:25Speaker 1: that regard and setting the you know, the tone at
- 15:28Speaker 1: the point of attack as a blocker on offense and
- 15:31Speaker 1: have just more of an expanded role because you have
- 15:33Speaker 1: Dallas Goddard, Grant Kakata, as I mentioned for years, is willing.
- 15:37Speaker 1: That's not his forte, that's not Kylon Granson's forte. Cam
- 15:41Speaker 1: lots who can absolutely do that. He has the frame
- 15:45Speaker 1: for it, he has the mindset, and he's willing to
- 15:47Speaker 1: do whatever it takes for the team. And I just
- 15:51Speaker 1: there's been enough that I've seen on tape, and there's
- 15:54Speaker 1: been you know, just talking to him. I think that
- 15:57Speaker 1: that is something if you're the Eagles and you're trying
- 15:59Speaker 1: to find way to increase physicality, pay running lanes and
- 16:03Speaker 1: optimize your personnel, maybe that's something that they can look at.
- 16:07Speaker 1: But as I sit here on this Monday evening, these
- 16:10Speaker 1: are some of the.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Thoughts that I have. That's gonna do it.
- 16:13Speaker 1: For this edition of The check of Daily, this is
