- 1:58SPEAKER_02: Because you are not here in the UK, are you?
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: No, no, I'm not.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: You can tell from my accent that I am from the UK, but I'm not here right now.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm actually living in Cambodia.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: So I'm really, really excited to be on this podcast.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: And also, I just think how cool is this, Karen, that you're in the UK, I'm in Cambodia.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we can still do stuff like this, and I think that is like the power of digital and online and things like that.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, I'm so so happy to be here.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much for having me.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, hello to you listeners.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Um, so my name's Alice.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: It's really difficult to always say like what I am, and yeah, I'm always just actually I'm a coach because I just do so many different things.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: I do coaching, I do consultancy work with organisations, I also deliver workshops to B2B or all for other business owners, and I also do like speaking, writing, content creating, and things like that.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: Um, my real passion topic is what I call creating a life by design, which I I think fits perfectly with like what you're all about as well, Karam.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: You know, using your busy business to live that life that you want, and you know, everyone's got different versions of success, like everyone's different, everyone's lifestyle is different, but I really want everyone to live on their terms, like how they want it to be, and that's what I call it call it a life by design, not by default, because I think a lot of us like get into that default mode of just doing the same or doing what we think we have to or what we should do.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: So, in particular, I kind of like really zone in on time management, energy management, and productivity, they're like my absolute geeky favourite subjects.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: I love that, and I love the fact that you call it life by design because absolutely I think usually if you have started a business or you are wanting to create something in your in your life, the whole premise is aging on your terms, your way, all of that, and that's how we should all be living, not going through life passively, just accepting what comes our way.
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: So I love that fact that term that you use about life by design.
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: I think that's great, and that's what you're doing, isn't it?
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: You're you're actually leading by example.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm like absolutely, and I think that doing it on your terms is so important in life, but also in your business as well.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Like I actually gave permission to the ladies on my mastermind yesterday, where you know, one of them's got kids, you know, small kids, August and December.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: That's tricky with the school holidays.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: She couldn't work as much as August, and she was beating herself up.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: And I was like, You know that you've got your own business, you don't have to do Monday to Friday, nine or five.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: You can make it work for you.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: Like, if you don't want to work in August, you don't have to.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: Like, I didn't work in August, I went back to Japan to see my family.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: And she suddenly was like, Oh my god, yeah, it's my business.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: I don't have to do full-time in August if I don't want to.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: And I was like, It's like doing it on your own terms, right?
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, I'm really, really passionate about that, and everyone's gonna be different.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't have kids, so I wanted August not because it was summer holidays and I've got kids, but because it was a good time for me and my mum go to back to Japan where she's from and see a family that we've hadn't seen for four years.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: Like, that for me is on my terms.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: That for me is my life by design.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Like, I just oh I love travel so much, and I've always knew that I wanted a business that I could do with my passion for travel at the same time.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: That for me is my life by design.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: We need to find that thing, don't we, that we're passionate about that we can sort of build everything around.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: And the fact that you're able to go traveling to have these amazing experiences and still run your business.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: You know, when we talk about building in the online space, this is why this to me kind of sums it up, is because you have the ability to be able to do other things outside of work rather than having to just be at your desk all the time, you're able to kind of go out and create a life and then have work sort of wrap around that to give yourself the freedom.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: And that's why I know in my business, that's why I love doing what I do, because essentially it's building that freedom into our life so that we're not having to constantly be available and be at our desk 24-7.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: And I think if we can if if we can all find that thing that lights us up, that we can incorporate in our everyday life, that we can build work around, then there's there's so much kind of power to that.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: I think that's what I think then elevates who you are, essentially, and and raises your vibration because you're living, like you say, your the life that you want to live rather than a life that you've just fallen into.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: I I actually call it work-life blend because I'm not so hot on the term work-life balance.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: I could do use it because people know what it is.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: But when I was thinking about this, I was like, I love what I do, but like you say, I don't really change my desk 24-7.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: And also, that doesn't serve my clients.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: Like, if I'm coming onto calls and I'm drained and just not bringing my A game, then that doesn't serve them anyway.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: So it's I thought for me, it's like blending work and life into how I want.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: So the fact that I can travel and I can holiday if I want a holiday, but some days I don't want a holiday, sometimes I want to serve my clients because I love what I do.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: It's like for me, it's that work-life blend, but having that freedom and that flexibility is just so so key for me.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: Because I think that's it, isn't it?
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: I think everybody has a different idea as to what their perfect life looks like.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: And if you love the work that you do, you're going to be inclined to want to do it anyway, but it is kind of having that balance around it so that you get to have the choice.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: And I and I think, especially if you kind of sort of caught up working for an employer or you're working in corporate or whatever, you don't necessarily have that choice, you have to kind of live by other people's rules when you're when you're in the world of work and and and the career ladder you're on and all of that stuff.
- 8:07SPEAKER_02: But but I think the moment you step into the world of entrepreneurship, the game changes because you get to be more in control.
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: And I think that's the thing that's really important, like whether it's in your in your business, in your career, in in your personal life, whatever, it's having that control.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: It's you kind of almost dictate in how you want to live rather than the other way around.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, oh my god, 100%, 100%.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: Tell me about a little bit about sort of what you do then, because you specialize in productivity and energy, don't you?
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: So what does that mean?
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: And how did you decide?
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: Like, what was that thing that made you think, you know what, this is where I want to niche and specialise in?
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: I think like probably a lot of a lot of entrepreneurs, a lot of business owners, it was my own past pain and my own past me that led me to where I am today and being like obsessed with this time management, energy management productivity concept.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: And for me, time management isn't just about managing time, it's actually also about managing your energy.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: And when I started to shift from just that time management governed by the clock, governed by your to-do list, when I'm moved away from that and more into like the energy management side of things, that for me was a game changer.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: And when I mean energy management, this is just a term that I use, this is not like something that I've like learned from a book per se.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: This is just something that I started to observe that actually, physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, all the different elements of energy that impacts you, how you show up, and how you use your time and your productivity.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: And this this shift for me came in 2019.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: And unfortunately, I burnt out and I didn't see it coming.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: And I had this like, oh, it was severe, it was horrendous at the time.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: I kind of glossed over, I didn't realise how bad it was.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: And I was great at time management, Karen.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: I I was so good at time management when I was in corporate.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: I was always like the person that you give stuff to, you know, that busy person, give it to them, you know, they're gonna get it done.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: I so I had my full-time business, I had a side business, I was on a board for a charity, I did kickboxing, like I even did competitions and won.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: And you know, I'm definitely like that kind of high achiever doing it all, but I also was a party girl, so I could go out the weekend, enjoy myself, you know, sleep in your dead, that kind of thing.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: And my time management was brilliant, I was productive, and you know, I claimed to never watch TV because I'm too busy, almost like it was a badge of bloody honour.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: And I don't know.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: And I was like, hang on a minute, like burnout doesn't happen to people like me.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: I'm great at time management.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: And I realized that yeah, I was, but I wasn't good at looking after my energy.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: Perfectionism, people please are taking on too much, saying yes to every party invite, even though I really just needed sleep, you know.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: The the list is endless, and I suddenly realized I wasn't looking after myself properly.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: It might look like I was because you know, I went to the gym today ticked, but actually, maybe I didn't need the gym that day, maybe my physical energy needed stretching or yoga or something more gentle, or you know, I've had quite a lot of challenges over the years.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: And did I actually, yeah, okay?
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: I went to therapy, but did I actually truly process those emotions and just so many different things?
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: It the burnout really made me question like how I was living and how I was showing up, and the ironic thing as well is now I live more under that energy management belief.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: I am more productive than ever.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: Like people always joke to me that I get more done in a day than most people get done in a week, and I'm like, yeah, because I know how to use my energy, I'm not just being governed by those 24 hours in a clock, you know.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: I'm looking at my energy, and so for me, what does it mean?
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: It's it's it's looking at your time management, but from a slightly different lens.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: And sometimes when we procrastinate, or maybe we don't do things, it it's very unlikely it's because you haven't got the time.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: Sometimes it's because you haven't got the energy, maybe mentally you don't have the energy, maybe physically you don't have the energy.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: Perhaps you're procrastinating because just of that, not because you're lazy.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: Um, so it's often when we look at our time management issues, they're often an energy management issue, and that's why I wanted to niche down into that because I think there's a lot of time management, you know, I don't know what you want to call them, gurus out there that are like hustle, grind, get up at five, you know, stop being lazy, you've got to sacrifice TV.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Uh you listen to these motivational things on like YouTube, I do in the morning, and I'm like half-agreeing, and then sometimes I'm cringing, being like, oh no, the whole muscle grind thing that led me to burnout.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, and I don't believe in tactics like eat that frog, but you've got to do the worst thing and the first thing.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: Doesn't always work.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: So that's why I niche down into looking at energy management because like I was great at fire management and I burnt out.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: I I was going about it all wrong.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: When you when you talk about energy, actually, it's um like you say, it's it's actually really powerful when you do bring that energy to the table and you are kind of working at a time where you're you're really sort of feeling your best, because that's essentially what it is, isn't it?
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: You're absolutely right, you get way more done.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: And time for me, I always think is quite challenging because if I was to kind of map out my time in the day, because I do have young children, I kind of get into my work and then I stop, and then because I've got to go and pick them up and I've got to be mum and all of this, and then I start again, then I stop for dinner and all of that.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: It kind of does um affect the momentum.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: Like if I'm looking at being productive in a working day, then I would be looking at the first part of my day when they when they've gone to school, and then I can settle into my work, and then that's where I can focus.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: However, that's not when I'm at my most energetic, that's not when I'm feeling my most productive.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: Do you know what I mean?
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: So, like this so much push-pull kind of feel.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: Yes, I've got the time.
- 14:21SPEAKER_02: Actually, I'm not feeling like I really want to do the thing that actually I've now got the time to do because my energy is not there.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, absolutely.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: And then we start to force ourselves, and then if the energy is not there and we're forcing it, it doesn't feel right, we're probably not going to get the results, probably not gonna be productive, probably not doing scrolling and stuff, or we don't do it, and then we get to the end of the day and beat ourselves up, yeah, and then we go, and then that obviously doesn't help our self-worth, self-confidence, or any mindset or anything like that either.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: So the energy you bring to it and to the task is more important, I think, than the actual like time slot that you've got in your diary.
- 15:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, 100%, 100%.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: I um I every now and again I go through these spells of waking up really early, and I love it.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: Like I'll wake up around five o'clock and it'll just be like my butt, you know, my body's ready to get up, I'm ready, and I wake up and I've got this real sort of clarity, and then I sit down, and if I'm doing something creative, it's so easy because it's it's being at your most productive first thing in the morning.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: And I sort of realize for me, that's even though I try and resist early mornings, because I've always told myself that I'm not an early morning type person, when I actually, in fact, that's when I feel more creative, things flow so much better, and I can get things done way before everybody sort of wakes up and everything, which which then puts me in a really great place mentally because I feel like I've already got out of the way things that needed to be done, and I I can therefore relax and just bed into my day, knowing full well that you know I I've done that, I've done these things that I needed to do, and that's really early in the morning.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: And because I was I went through a period of time where I was doing that quite frequently, and I was finding actually I was getting more done, I was starting to think about the energy side of things.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: Like it was actually I was I was thinking, which is when obviously I met you, and you sort of said obviously about what you do.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: And I thought there there is something here, there is something really powerful because when you're in that place of flow, it it's effortless, you know.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: Just that's what it is, really, isn't it?
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: It's it's flow, it's the flow of energy, the flow of ideas, and people I think people forget that we're human and that we are creatures and we're nature, and in nature, everything is cyclical.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: You know, we don't have the same season, anyway.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: You know, we we have seasons of growth and seasons of like where it starts to wither and rebirth.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: Like we have seasons, we have cycles, and people don't realise within us, they've often heard of the circadian rhythm, but we also have something called an ultradian rhythm, and this works roughly on a 90 to 120 minute cycle, and that's why you naturally get those ebbs and flows and peaks and troughs throughout the day.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Now, when you start to understand that and when yours are, you might be like, Oh, in the mornings, boom, that's when I'm at my creative.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: But I also have clients that are like, nah, no no no, I'm a night out, like 9 p.m., that's when I'm my most creative.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: Well, utilise that then, like, there's no rules, you know.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: And when you've got that flow because you understand your own energy eps and flows, and when you're creative, it is just so much easier.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: And you can do more and give your best.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: And I don't mean more in a kind of like pre-burnout, Alice, give more, but you know, you can show up and just enjoy it as well.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: You enjoy it more when you do flow, don't you?
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, it just feels easy.
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: It just feels easy, you know.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: Like if you're trying to write a blog post or you're wanting to smash out your social media content, or you want to like, you know, work on your online course.
- 18:07SPEAKER_02: I mean, when I was creating my very first course, I was getting up early to get myself time in in the diary before I'd start my working day, and that worked really well.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: So I would have sort of certain days that I'd work on it, but I'd also try and steal a little bit of time in the morning before the kids got up and the house suddenly becomes chaotic and all of that stuff.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: But what I realized is that I was showing up afterwards with this kind of glow because I I was kind of ahead of myself, you know, I'd already got done some of the stuff that I absolutely needed to get done.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: It was already done, it was done first thing in the morning, and I was able to do it quicker than what I'd initially anticipated.
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: And I think that's because of where I was in terms of my energy levels and wake up, I'd have a glass of water, then a cup of coffee, and then I'd sit down and boom, it would happen.
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: And I love that.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: I absolutely love that.
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: I because what I do is very creative in my work anyway.
- 19:06SPEAKER_02: I know I know all too well when you know you're in that moment and you just for whatever reason, you can't just you can't do the thing that you want to do because it's just not flowing, and maybe it's down to tiredness or like say, you know, you're just burnt out or whatever, and and that that can really derail you, I think.
- 19:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, do you know what on that note?
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: I have to sometimes give my clients permission so that if it's not it's not flowing at the moment and you're not feeling it, press pause and come back to it.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: And that might be a big project, or that might be just in the moment today, like if you didn't sleep very well, you know, that it was hot and you didn't sleep very well, and you're a bit a bit boggy today, and the big project create a thing that you want to work on today.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: Do you know what?
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: Just do easy admin, less brain drain stuff, and then save that for another day.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: You can switch it up, you're allowed to do that just because you know you you've made this like almost revision timetable schedule type thing for yourself.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: You and it's it's that just like listening to yourself as well, I think, and just okay, how am I feeling today?
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: Am I in fly?
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: Am I creative?
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: I think tiredness is a big one, isn't it?
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: If you're feeling tired or you know, you've got a lot on your plate at the moment, that could be very draining.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: I think sometimes when you feel like that, then trying to get things done can just feel like you're walking through treacle.
- 20:21SPEAKER_02: It's just trying, you're trying, you're trying, and nothing is quite happening, or not to the level that you want it to happen.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: And I think you're absolutely right.
- 20:28SPEAKER_02: You know, when that happens, you have to listen to yourself and and and go and do something else, go and do something that is a is a little bit more easier.
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and sometimes do you know what you just need a break?
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've had times where I'm like, oh my god, I'm so tired, and I'm like, I'm just taking a 10-minute break and I'll go for like a quick lap and then I'll come back and I'm like, I feel so much better now.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: And all I needed just was a 10-minute lap, you know, around the around the corner in nature, or just get some fresh air, or just something like that little glass on this hard because I'm dehydrated, just something as simple as that.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: Sometimes you just need a little grammar.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: Because you're right, sometimes it can just be about the grime, isn't it?
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: If you like me, you've got young children at school, often we are given this six-hour period between drop-off and pickup.
- 21:13SPEAKER_02: So it's like, right, okay, I've got I've got to get my head down and just work, work, work.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: Because I've got six hours, I've got to make the most of it.
- 21:19SPEAKER_02: And yeah, like I say, it's just about listening to yourself and how you're feeling and and then and then going for from there, really.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: So, who do you work with?
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: What type of clients do you work with in your business?
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: So I seem to work with business owners, um, so small business owners, like leaders and CEOs of of large companies, those are typically the people that I work with, which I never set out to do that.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: You know, people tell us to niche down and stuff.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: I never really particularly chose that as a niche, but I guess given the topic that I'm talking about productivity, time management, energy management, I think it's probably just natural that they're the busiest, or you know, they've got lots on their plate.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: So that's that's predominantly who I work with.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: We were talking about your online course.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: So you are a course creator, aren't you?
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: So tell me a little bit about that.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: Tell me about your online course.
- 22:07SPEAKER_02: What made you create an online course?
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: And also what it's done for both you and your business.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: From day dot, when I started my business three years ago, I always knew some things before I even began.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: Number one, I knew that I wanted an international business.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: Number two, I knew that I wanted to be able to travel with the business.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: And number three, I knew that I wanted to serve as many people as possible.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: Like I've got huge ambitions for myself and getting my message out there and just helping people with their time management and their energy management.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: Because for so long, you know, if I go pre-burnout, Alice, that wasn't working for me.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: And now I'm out of it on the other side, and I can see people falling into that trap.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, oh my god, you know, gotta help people, gotta help people.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: And let's be honest, everyone wants more time.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: Like, I've never asked somebody, like, you happy with your amount of hours you've got in a day.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: Everyone wants more time.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: And we can't get that, but we can learn about our time management and energy management.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: So I always knew as well that I've only got 24 hours in a day, and even if I never slept, I could only serve like a certain amount of people every day on a one-to-one basis.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: So group coaching obviously is amazing as well, but then you've got to take that game further.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: Like I've got, as I say, big, big plans.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: I want to serve as many people as possible, and to do that internationally as well, especially when you're traveling.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: And at the moment, I'm now currently in Cambodia, so I'm on a like completely different time zone to the UK now.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: I want to produce an online course.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: So I knew that from very, very early on.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: So even though the course got launched this year, it's probably been like two years in the making because I've I've run the course essentially I've run it live three, four times, and then took the best bits from it, what landed well, what didn't, what worked, what didn't, because you're getting that live feedback, and then that all the golden stuff, that's what's gone into the online time management course.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: I think it's such a brilliant way to test out your idea before you start then sort of really pinning it down into a physical course at the end of it, being able to kind of run it live, like you say, get live feedback, get those insights, get people on board so that you know at the end of it that not only is there a need for the thing that you're creating, you have created something that's that's specific to the needs of the people that are within your live programme, so that you can then obviously serve really well through your online course.
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: And I think that's what is so important.
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: And but you're absolutely right when it talks about cre when you talk about creating impact because you're so limited in capacity when you're sort of working with with people, you know, there's only so many people that you can coach in a day, in a week, in a month, in a year.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: And so, like I say, if you're somebody that really wants to kind of get your message out there and create the impact that you know you can create, it makes sense to sort of put something together so that you can automate that in order to be able to serve more people.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: So, how how are you finding having an online course now?
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: Is that helping you with your travelling?
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: Is that giving you the freedom that you'd hoped it was going to give you?
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: What has your experience been?
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: So I'm still very much in the early days of like having recently launched the course, but for me, I really do see this as being like my signature course.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: This is what I'm calling it.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: I call it my signature course because, as I said, you know, I did three years of research and working with people and put all that into it.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: So this is all like my signature teachings and all my like different theories and stuff like that, all bottled up and popped into this package.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: And I yeah, I really want to use this to, as I say, to help people as far and wide as possible.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: So so far we've got students from uh like I think we've got students from the UK obviously, but we also uh got students from the Middle East, and I just love that as well, that it's starting to become international, it's starting to um build a community around it as well because it also gets I've also accompanied and accompanied it with uh an exclusive group as well, so they get extra hands and support from me and they can ask questions.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: Um, so how cool is that?
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: You know, you can bring this community together internationally as well.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: So for me, it's it's yeah, it's it's about serving so many values, I suppose, within my business of helping people, supporting people, connecting people, and also ultimately giving me a bit of a bit more freedom.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: So I'm not chained at my desk.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: So when you know one of my students logs on, and it is it's at a time that's convenient for them.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: It's not necessarily convenient for me.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: I can be asleep, I can be working with another client, but they're getting what they need at that time with the information that they need from the course, like right.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: That for me is the freedom that I'm I'm aiming for.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I'm just just gonna keep building it and building it and spreading the word about it.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: And you're absolutely right, aren't you?
- 27:11SPEAKER_02: It it's a case of you're you've packaged up all of this good stuff that you know that you know is going to make a difference, that you know is going to have a positive impact on other people's lives, but you're not always going to be available in order to share that with them, at least with an online course.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: They can log in and they can access what they need at a time that suits them.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: And I think again, there's power in that because you're almost kind of giving them the freedom to be able to learn at their in their own time, in their own at their own pace, in their own home.
- 27:45SPEAKER_02: They don't have to go anywhere, they can just consume and learn what they need at that given moment.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: And I think being able to do that as well is really empowering because it's empowering to them, but also for yourself as well, because that's they build and free giving you the freedom so that you're not having to constantly find new coaching clients and and then be at the becking call of those clients.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: I think I think there there is a little bit of um misunderstanding at the beginning.
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: So when you create a product, whatever it is, um it could be tempting to think that I've I've built it, it's ready to go, people are gonna come, people are gonna flock far and wide because I've now got this amazing thing that they can now access.
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: But you and I both know that there's work that needs to go into that.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: You need to launch it, you need to promote it, you need to market it.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: Having said that, I think there's far less work involved in that than there is having to constantly go and find new clients and to you know work one-on-one with people because you can you can obviously build that launch and that promotional strategy around your own energy, around your own time frame, when it suits you.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, I I so so agree with that.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: So I I'm gonna be really vulnerable here and raw and honest.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: And if anyone follows me on Instagram, they know how like tell it how it is and raw and honest I am.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: But I I came at it with the wrong approach a couple of months ago, a couple of weeks ago, actually.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: And I took August off.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: I don't really like that terminology, but I took August off because I wanted to go to Japan and see my family, and I'd written it into my business plan that August was going to be a non-launch month.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: I was gonna be in Japan, and I also it coincided with what would have been my wedding anniversary, and the the the the force is still quite fresh, so I didn't know how it was gonna be.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: So I'd written this into the business plan, but the mindset it got to mid-August, and it was a scarcity mindset that create crept in, and it was a oh my god, I need to I need to just like actively promote and launch something, even though I knew that it wasn't the right month for me energetically, so I panicked and I saw that there was a bank holiday coming, and I was like, right, we'll tap onto that.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: Let's do a let's do a promotion for the bank holiday.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: I did it and it didn't go very well.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: And I I knew that before I even started.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: I I knew before even I went to launch it that this wasn't the right time.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: I just got back from Japan, I was in NACARD, um, and also in hindsight as well.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: People, especially in the UK, when we've got a bank holiday, we just want to enjoy the bank holiday because with this time management coach is rocking up onto Instagram being like, Have you had a productive week?
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: No, by my time management course.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: It they're too busy drinking rose in the beer garden, like that they don't care.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: And loads of people took a took a digital detox over the bank holidays um weekend as well.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: So when I was assessing this, I was like, Why did you do that?
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: You know, you really put that bloody business plan.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: But I'll be honest with you, I came from a minute place of panic, and it obviously didn't work.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: So you're absolutely right.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: Number one, you can't just build a cut horse and think everyone's gonna come flock in.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: Number two, you do have to market it, but you also got to do it when it's right for you, and that's the beauty of the evergreen is that if you don't make a sale bang on today, it's still available tomorrow, and it's not like a live programme where you've got to get everyone through the doors by a certain time because you're starting.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: You know, when I launched my mastermind earlier this year, that was a 12-month mastermind starting in June.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: Well, I can't have people join in in July, we're starting in June, so there's a little bit of you know that pressure, but there isn't that pressure with an online course because somebody can buy it today or they can buy it tomorrow, they can buy it in a year, it doesn't matter.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: And actually, I had just somebody buy the course in enroll, and they were like, Oh my god, I'm so excited about enrolling in this course.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: I've been watching you for like the last couple of months, and I really wanted to join, but I couldn't back in July.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: And and for her, it was a really sad personal reason she couldn't.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: Well, I can't dictate people's personal lives.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: Like when I when there was a promotion on in July, she wanted to, but she she just physically couldn't.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: And I think sometimes we forget that we we can't obviously see in the lives of others, so then we go, why is Mama buying the course?
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: But they are watching and it's evergreen, so it doesn't matter if they buy it today, tomorrow or next month.
- 32:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, what's really um interesting is we tend to put emotional feeling towards outcomes, don't we?
- 32:27SPEAKER_02: And then we judge ourselves based on that.
- 32:29SPEAKER_02: So when we don't make a sale or something doesn't go quite as we expected, we attach emotion and then we make a judgment that then puts us into a negative mindset.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: And I think you're absolutely right.
- 32:45SPEAKER_02: I think you have to come at it with a view of there are so many things going on in different people's lives, and and you just have to be open to the possibility.
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: I I'm in an accountability group and I was talking to one of the guys, and and he was sort of saying we have to come at things with this with a very scientific mindset.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: We have to, especially when you've created something for the first time, you've got to figure out what the perfect formula is because that formula is different for everybody.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: What's right for my audience is not necessarily going to be right for your audience, and so on and so forth.
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: And so you have to give yourself time and grace to be able to test and to figure out what works and what doesn't.
- 33:27SPEAKER_02: But I think what you did, I know it probably came from that place of scarcity, but at the same time, you know, you've just basically validated something that you knew already.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: And you know that if you're gonna sell something or you're gonna launch something, you have to be in the right space energetically.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: In your head, you have to be in the right space, otherwise, you're not going to get the outcomes that you're obviously hoping for.
- 33:51SPEAKER_02: So I think there's this far sort of fine line between kind of almost sort of being unemotional about the outcome.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: Like if one person buys your course, if 10 people with 15, 100, it really doesn't like don't apply it like an emotion to that.
- 34:05SPEAKER_02: It is what it is.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: You can, like you say, you can always launch again, you can always open your doors again.
- 34:12SPEAKER_02: It's never like a one and done scenario.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: You've also got to look in on yourself and ask yourself really honestly, are you in the best place to launch because of all the work that goes into it and and expectations and stuff as well?
- 34:27SPEAKER_02: That that we shouldn't apply emotion, but we're humans and we do.
- 34:31SPEAKER_02: So then it's like, well, okay, am I in the best place emotionally to be able to do this?
- 34:37SPEAKER_02: Can I really bring what I need to in terms of energy to the table in order to make this launch a success?
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: And if it's a no, then it's about sort of just okay, well, let's just pause, try again at another point.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: But I don't absolutely and this goes back to what we were saying earlier, you know, you might have the time, but you might have the energy, like exactly time over the bank holiday weekend because it's not a bank holiday in Cambodia, so I didn't have the usual like heavy social weekend, so I had the time, but I didn't have the energy, yeah.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, absolutely.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: We we just we need to think about that as well when it comes to our online stuff as well.
- 35:15SPEAKER_02: So, have you got another launch plan?
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh it is it is evergreen, so you know, people can purchase anytime so they've seen like a blog or you know an Instagram post and they want to just buy it, they can, but I am actually at the moment of of recording this.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: Um, it's my September celebrations, September is my birthday month, so every year this is my third January that I've had my September celebrations, my business is three years old, and I just thought it's a lovely way to extend the celebrations to my audience.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: So I've always always done like a little offer, and this year, as part of the offer, I've got four things on offer, but the online time management course is one of them.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: So I've scooped it up in my September celebrations.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: But again, you know, some if if people that aren't ready yet, I'm not gonna push people into being like you gotta buy now while there's this offer on.
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: Like, if they're not ready, they're not ready.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: And if they want to buy next month or next year, that's cool as well.
- 36:10SPEAKER_02: Do you have some top tips that you can offer the listeners to help them better manage their energy, be more productive, get more things done in a way that's not going to drain them or sort of put them in that place where they just feel like it afterwards?
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: Definitely, definitely.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: The first thing that I would say is it's really easy to just shoot straight into like practical tips, you know, get this plan, I'll do this.
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: But again, it's very like clock time management.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: What I'd say is first of all, decide what truly matters because I look back to pre-burnout, Alice, and I definitely was busy for busy sight, and I definitely was doing stuff that didn't really need to doing.
- 36:52SPEAKER_01: And I would try and I'd be that person that had to do like everything from scratch, and there's a time and a place to do things from scratch, and there's time and a place to like shortcut it and like you know, buy the cupcakes, not like handmake them, you know, that kind of thing.
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: And it's about knowing what truly matters for you in the bigger picture, but also in the day-to-day and on that project.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: And I think we just put so much pressure on ourselves to do it all, we just put so much pressure on ourselves to do everything from scratch and everything perfect, actually, just kind of start prioritizing, you know.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: That is true productivity.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: Productivity is not doing everything, productivity is doing the right things, yeah, and when you start to cut some of the crap that doesn't actually matter, you're gonna be more productive automatically.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: So I would say that would be the like the first place to start.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: And I think it would be I think it's gonna be liberating for people going, well, actually, I don't need to do that, or I don't need to do that 100% to that land level or standard, and it's not about dropping your standards or anything like that, it is just about knowing what matters to you or not, or know what's a value to you as well.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: Like I've I've been very clear that my values in life are things like learning, having fun.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: So if it falls into one of those categories, I'm game, I'm up for it.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: And if it doesn't, I don't want to do it.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: So I also think as well, from a practical perspective, knowing your energy drainers and fillers, everyone's different.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: So things that light me up are going to be very different from the next person.
- 38:22SPEAKER_01: So things that light me up and things like this, I love like chatting and podcasting and connecting and collaborating.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: So I get off these calls and I'm I'm buzzing, like I'm but if I had to do like two hours of accounts, I'd come off it drained and being like, oh my god, like pass me a glass of wine.
- 38:37SPEAKER_01: So I couldn't do a whole day's worth of accounts, like they're the kind of tasks that I would have to chop up and spread across the week.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: But I could be on Zoom calls 10 hours straight and still be violent high.
- 38:48SPEAKER_01: So it's about knowing your energy drainers and fillers, which also takes me on to another tip of knowing your natural ethics and flows.
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: So if you are starting to feel a bit, ooh, my energy's dropping here, that's natural, that's normal.
- 39:04SPEAKER_01: That doesn't mean grab a cup of coffee and keep plowing on.
- 39:07SPEAKER_01: That means maybe take a break, maybe switch up, change environment, pop to a coffee shop, go for a walk, maybe switch out for an easier task that's not so like brain drainy.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: So I think we just we need to kind of listen to ourselves more as well.
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: So that that would be like my starting tips.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: I'm sitting here thinking, because this morning I was I was having to do some some uh tasks that I I don't mind them, but it requires a lot of me having to think, you know, like I've got proposals to write and things like that.
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: I don't particularly enjoy that kind of thing, I would rather be creating or designing.
- 39:44SPEAKER_02: That's where I get my my lift, if you like.
- 39:47SPEAKER_02: And um, and I was thinking, you know, I don't know if I can do this right now.
- 39:51SPEAKER_02: And it's almost allowing yourself the permission to be like, you know what, I'm gonna put a pin in this, I'm gonna come back to it later because right now, this is a stuff I can't bring to the table what I need to bring in order to get this task done.
- 40:06SPEAKER_02: So needless to say, I haven't got those tasks done.
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: I did put a pin on it, but yeah, it's just like say, it's listening to yourself, isn't it?
- 40:14SPEAKER_02: And you know, understanding what your body's trying to tell you and and and then give yourself permission to be okay with that and to listen to it and go and do something else, yeah.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: And it's very different from procrastination, it's very different from going, oh no, I need to do it and I'm not, and I keep putting it off.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: You know, that's just pure procrastination.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: And we can sometimes mask procrastination with activity by I don't know, jumping on social media or like cleaning out the kitchen cupboard, and we're like, oh see, I'm being reductive.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: And again, that's why I'm like I feel like you're watching me.
- 40:43SPEAKER_02: I feel like you know what I'm gonna do.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: It's like really knowing what is gonna move the needle forward, right?
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: Being honest with yourself and going, do you know what?
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: I'm not bringing my A game to this proposal.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: We're putting a pin on it, I'll come back to that tomorrow or the day after.
- 40:58SPEAKER_01: So actually, what I'm gonna do instead is blah, blah, blah.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: That is that is different.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: That is energy management, and that is gonna serve you so well.
- 41:06SPEAKER_02: There are things that I do, there's key things that I do that I love to do, and I always find myself, it's almost like you're refilling the cup just by doing them.
- 41:15SPEAKER_02: And what one of my favorite things to do, because I like because I'm a designer, I love designing, but I love it when I put my music on, I put my favorite music on.
- 41:23SPEAKER_02: I'm a real country fan, so I love it.
- 41:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I love it, I love it.
- 41:27SPEAKER_02: I've got I go my playlist, I go to, and then I I I shut the door, I just put my music on full blast, sitting there singing away, creating whatever it is I'm creating, and then oh my god, I'm like on Cloud9.
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: That that to me is where my happy place is.
- 41:41SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, I guess it's kind of figuring out, isn't it, where that place is for you as well, and then spending some time there because that's where you're gonna get that that refill, isn't it?
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I've got another little sneaky tip for your listeners, actually, which I've got to credit to my client Jamie.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: This is his tip.
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: He actually colour coded his diary because he just was so like, oh my god, there's too many drug energy drainers in my day.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so he colour coded his diary, and if there was too much grey, like because that was colour colour, there was too much grey in one day, he changed it because it made him actually physically see oh, Tuesday, I've an energy draining day.
- 42:21SPEAKER_02: It's just being really aware, isn't it?
- 42:23SPEAKER_02: Like you say, I'm I'm with you, I can't do accounts, I hate accounts, I hate bookkeeping, I hate anything like that.
- 42:29SPEAKER_02: I'm anything to do with numbers, I'm just not like it does it.
- 42:33SPEAKER_02: Being aware of that, and then like not avoiding it, but but just maybe that is a thing that you can do at a time when maybe you're more geared to do it, and just like you say, and then taking ownership of your calendar.
- 42:44SPEAKER_02: So rather rather than running a to-do list, maybe it's an energy list, maybe it's a case of right, okay.
- 42:49SPEAKER_02: Well, in the morning, this is how I feel.
- 42:51SPEAKER_02: So these are the tasks that best suit that time, and then you know, in the evening, you're gonna do X, Y, and Z and just taking ownership over that, I guess, as well.
- 43:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and especially if you are a business owner's owner and you've got a bit more control of your diary.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: Like, I've got a really, really long day today because obviously with the overlap with England and stuff like that.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna be waiting until about midnight tonight, and that's okay, I've done that.
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: That's like choice.
- 43:17SPEAKER_01: So I took four hours out this afternoon to um have a call with one of my mates, go to the gym, and I've that revived and refreshed me.
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, I will be raring to go into the midnight tonight for the next six hours because I've I know what fills me energy and fills me up and what doesn't.
- 43:35SPEAKER_02: So just moving away from running a task list, just thinking about things a little bit differently and and kind of approaching it in a way that is more serving to you as opposed to kind of draining, which is what we want to avoid at all costs.
- 43:47SPEAKER_02: And I I've been there at burnout and it's not fun.
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: So if we can avoid it, then then we must do uh in whatever way possible.
- 43:55SPEAKER_02: So thank you so much for sharing.
