- 0:00Speaker 1: What up, y'all? It's your boy Kim on stage.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Tony Baker.
- 0:02Speaker 1: This is the Bob Brothers Podcast. Special edition today. This
- 0:08Speaker 1: topic was on the interwebs last week or so. I
- 0:12Speaker 1: think Ryan Clark, shout out to Ryan Clark and The Pivot.
- 0:13Speaker 1: They got a new licensing deal to be on Netflix, man.
- 0:17Speaker 2: When one door closes, another one opens.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Take that, ESPN.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah, shove it up your ass, ESPN. Shove it up
- 0:25Speaker 2: your ESPN. You know what? Let me... They might want
- 0:29Speaker 2: to work with me in the future. That's it for me. No,
- 0:32Speaker 2: for right now. I'm standing on what I said, man.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Up yours, ESPN. Y'all did them dirty.
- 0:38Speaker 1: But explain what the conversation is, Tony, and we're going to.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Get into it.
- 0:42Speaker 3: So they were saying that Will Smith and Denzel, some
- 0:46Speaker 3: people feel like Denzel can do everything Will Smith has
- 0:50Speaker 3: done in movies, and people feel like Will Smith can't
- 0:53Speaker 3: do what Denzel has done.
- 0:55Speaker 2: So it's basically a Will versus Denzel thing.
- 0:58Speaker 3: And I want to clarify and put it out there that,
- 1:01Speaker 3: you know, black folks, we be having these conversations.
- 1:04Speaker 2: People just be like, why we always got to compare?
- 1:07Speaker 2: Why can't we love both?
- 1:08Speaker 1: Shut the hell up for 96 hours.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Which is valid. Yeah.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Black people, the only people that do this, that's why
- 1:14Speaker 3: I'm going to stop you. We've been comparing Robert De
- 1:17Speaker 3: Niro and Al Pacino for decades.
- 1:21Speaker 2: To this day.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I'm certain in every culture, every race, they be doing
- 1:26Speaker 1: the country music people probably. I don't be on them time.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I don't be in the country time.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I don't know what Luke Bryan can do with Morgan Wayland.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Dwight Yoakam and Clint Black. You can switch.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Who?
- 1:38Speaker 2: The twang. You mean to tell me. You mean to
- 1:43Speaker 2: tell me that Faith Hill. And Carrie Underwood, I'm just saying,
- 1:49Speaker 2: who can carry the country? No. Tim McGraw and Randy Travis.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Certain. They do it, y'all. Yeah. And even if they did,
- 2:00Speaker 1: I don't care.
- 2:01Speaker 2: It's a podcast, and it's a great topic. It is
- 2:05Speaker 2: a great topic.
- 2:06Speaker 1: For a movie podcast. Black folks, we like to argue.
- 2:09Speaker 2: We do.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Me, Tony, and Chance get together once a year at
- 2:13Speaker 1: Angel's party.
- 2:14Speaker 2: As soon as Chance see us.
- 2:15Speaker 1: As soon as Chance.
- 2:16Speaker 2: I got a bone to pick.
- 2:18Speaker 1: So you're telling me Jamie Foxx can't do what Denzel.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I'm talking about no hello. We'll sit down and argue
- 2:25Speaker 1: for an hour and 45 minutes, hug each.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Other, and go back home. We'll come back to it.
- 2:30Speaker 2: We'll leave, go around the proceedings, come back. So you
- 2:33Speaker 2: need to tell me. The held up is better.
- 2:38Speaker 1: What was we arguing about last time? Nas? Something about Nas?
- 2:42Speaker 2: It was hip hop last time.
- 2:43Speaker 3: He was like, Wu-Tang Clan entered the 36 Chambers and it's.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Not that good. It was because me and Tony were
- 2:51Speaker 1: talking about non-skippable albums. Yes. And Chance was saying Wu-Tang
- 2:55Speaker 1: 36 Chambers got skips on it or something like that.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it was even beyond that. He was just disrespecting
- 3:01Speaker 2: that album.
- 3:03Speaker 1: And the last time, he was saying that Jamie Foxx
- 3:06Speaker 1: is the... What was he saying? Jamie Foxx is more
- 3:09Speaker 1: talented than Eddie Murphy? We was arguing about Jamie Foxx.
- 3:11Speaker 3: I think he has Jamie Foxx over everybody in the
- 3:14Speaker 3: talent department.
- 3:15Speaker 1: That's what it was. We were talking about Jamie Foxx
- 3:17Speaker 1: and Eddie Murphy. So we going to argue. That's the
- 3:20Speaker 1: thing I miss the most about a barbershop. Yeah. Pull up, argue, haircut,
- 3:24Speaker 1: no leave, more argue. All right, I got to get
- 3:26Speaker 1: the hell on, y'all.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I got to get the hell on body, y'all.
- 3:29Speaker 1: So yes. All right. So we're going to kick it off. Yeah.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Can Will do this movie? Can Denzel do this movie?
- 3:36Speaker 1: Let's start off with Will's intro to film for most
- 3:40Speaker 1: of us, which is Independence Day. Can Denzel play the
- 3:44Speaker 1: fighter pilot in Independence Day and you enjoy this movie
- 3:47Speaker 1: just the same? Is that the argument? Yeah.
- 3:50Speaker 3: I feel like Denzel could definitely be in Independence Day,
- 3:53Speaker 3: for sure.
- 3:54Speaker 2: As that fighter pilot. Thousand percent.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Charisma. Yep.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Coolness.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Yep. Mustache.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Pull the alien across the.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Getting the job done.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yep.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Black girlfriend.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Vivica Fox.
- 4:06Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Punching the alien in the face. Didn't say I could
- 4:09Speaker 2: do this.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Through the helmet. For whatever reason.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Through the helmet.
- 4:11Speaker 1: We was like, we didn't know that was the helmet
- 4:13Speaker 1: at the time.
- 4:14Speaker 2: No hand shatter. No, it was just. Even if it
- 4:17Speaker 2: wasn't the helmet, that was a bony face. Hand shatter.
- 4:23Speaker 1: He socked that alien dead in the face into this darkness.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Yes.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Like he punched it down into the alien ship.
- 4:30Speaker 2: One hitter quitter. The alien was soft. He was like, bye. Bye.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Can you imagine coming home? Yeah, so I socked the.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Alien out off the rip. What?
- 4:39Speaker 1: Yes. Socked the alien out.
- 4:41Speaker 3: And he was knocked out clean for a whole drag
- 4:44Speaker 3: through the desert. Most knockouts, you probably back up in
- 4:47Speaker 3: two minutes like, oh, it's crazy. That alien was out
- 4:51Speaker 3: for a full trip through the desert.
- 4:52Speaker 1: For the movement. The movement should awaken you. Yes. Can
- 4:55Speaker 1: you imagine an alien coming back like, hey, man, what happened? Man,
- 4:58Speaker 1: humans socked me out.
- 4:59Speaker 2: What is a sock out? Bleep, blorp, bleep.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Bleep, blorp.
- 5:06Speaker 3: And then, in reality, hand shattered, he wouldn't have been
- 5:10Speaker 3: able to fly the rest of the movie because you
- 5:12Speaker 3: need both hands.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I love it in a movie where somebody punches somebody
- 5:15Speaker 1: and they're like, ah! Because that's realistic. Yeah. And that's
- 5:18Speaker 1: human face. Yes. You talking about exoskeleton punch?
- 5:22Speaker 2: Come on, man. Shattered. Either way. Big time.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I believe that if I see an Independence Day with
- 5:28Speaker 1: Denzel cast as Will Smith and I watch that movie,
- 5:33Speaker 1: I don't think it's any less enjoyable. No. then it is.
- 5:37Speaker 3: I feel like you could have threw Denzel in there
- 5:40Speaker 3: because what sold that movie was the spectacle.
- 5:42Speaker 2: For sure.
- 5:43Speaker 3: We just happened to get the Will Smith like, yo, man,
- 5:46Speaker 3: coming off of Bad Boys.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Into that, it was just a nice, you know.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Will Smith is a movie star.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Yes.
- 5:52Speaker 2: That's when it. For sure. Bad Boys, you was like, hey,
- 5:57Speaker 2: I think we got something going here, Will.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Independence Day was a solidification of that. Yep.
- 6:03Speaker 1: All right, Denzel, Tony, pick that movie.
- 6:06Speaker 2: So, could Will Smith do glory?
- 6:14Speaker 1: Okay, let me think. Denzel, that's... Man, I watched that
- 6:21Speaker 1: movie in elementary school.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Let me think. Denzel... What made him great in glory?
- 6:29Speaker 3: His defiance. He was always just... He was on everybody's neck.
- 6:35Speaker 1: He was really unlikable.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Yeah. Right?
- 6:39Speaker 1: You don't feel bad for him until the very end
- 6:42Speaker 1: when they get to the feet.
- 6:43Speaker 2: He was exhausting. You know what Denzel reminds me of? Yeah.
- 6:47Speaker 3: In today's day and age, the people on social media
- 6:50Speaker 3: that are always pissed off about something.
- 6:53Speaker 2: They have good intentions.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:57Speaker 3: You're humanitarian. You're speaking out against racism. But it's always something.
- 7:04Speaker 3: And you just be like, I feel you, but just
- 7:07Speaker 3: shut the hell.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Up for two weeks. Every time you see them, they're
- 7:13Speaker 2: pissed off.
- 7:14Speaker 1: You got to get the shut the hell up shirts going, Tom.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Shut the hell up.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Just for two weeks, man. And Tripp's character, it was always,
- 7:24Speaker 3: so tear it up, y'all.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Tear it up. Tear it up.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Get your hands off me, Grave Digger. Morgan Freeman was pissed.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Morgan Freeman was sick of it.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 7:34Speaker 2: That's why he slapped him. He was just like, damn it.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Morgan Freeman was like, shut the hell up.
- 7:41Speaker 1: He was ready to fight, too.
- 7:42Speaker 2: For the Civil War.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Shut the hell up for.
- 7:44Speaker 2: The rest of the Civil War. Shut the hell up
- 7:46Speaker 2: for the whole Gettysburg. Just shut the hell up.
- 7:48Speaker 1: During the Gettysburg Address, don't you say a word.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Don't you say a goddamn thing.
- 7:53Speaker 2: But he was right, though. He was.
- 7:55Speaker 1: He was.
- 7:56Speaker 2: But he was just like, come on, man. Give me
- 7:58Speaker 2: 15 minutes. I can't see Will Smith playing that role.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Okay, give me a reason why. Because I think I
- 8:05Speaker 1: agree with you, but I don't know if I can
- 8:06Speaker 1: nail it.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Because there's always, not always, but like, we're talking 89.
- 8:17Speaker 2: It's 1989. Time matters.
- 8:19Speaker 3: But there's always a real urgency with Denzel.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Like, I'm serious.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Yes.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Even if I'm smiling, even if I'm talking that shit,
- 8:31Speaker 3: There's always some seriousness underneath. When Will Smith starts to
- 8:37Speaker 3: get jokey with you, you'd be like, oh, we just
- 8:39Speaker 3: having a good time.
- 8:40Speaker 1: He wasn't playing at all.
- 8:43Speaker 2: He wasn't playing at all.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Even while he was smiling, even when he was saying
- 8:46Speaker 3: tear it up, you knew he was dead serious.
- 8:49Speaker 1: On the underneath.
- 8:50Speaker 3: And so with Will, I feel like we would kind
- 8:53Speaker 3: of get lost in the.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Funniness as soon as he starts being serious. Remotely funny.
- 8:59Speaker 1: So now here's the thing, though, Tone. Yes. Alternate universe.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Because that was early. I won't say it's early in
- 9:09Speaker 1: Denzel's career. It's early in my knowing of Denzel. Right.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Right?
- 9:13Speaker 1: We say it was 89?
- 9:14Speaker 2: 89.
- 9:15Speaker 1: So I was six when that movie came out.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I probably watched it in fifth grade. I had seen,
- 9:20Speaker 1: I think at that time, I used to watch Mo'
- 9:23Speaker 1: Better Blues. Did that come out before that?
- 9:26Speaker 2: That was after.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Okay, so I didn't see Glory in real time.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Okay.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I know that for sure. Yeah. So I remember seeing Mo'
- 9:31Speaker 1: Better Blues before.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Okay. Is that the first time you remember Denzel?
- 9:37Speaker 1: Mo' Better?
- 9:38Speaker 3: That was your Denzel debut as a jazz musician.
- 9:41Speaker 1: My Aunt Sadie's house, him and Spike Lee. Yeah. Gets
- 9:46Speaker 1: his lip busted. Yeah. That's, I believe, the first movie
- 9:49Speaker 1: I remember seeing Denzel Washington in. Wow, okay. Yeah.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:53Speaker 1: So if Will came in, because he came in, so
- 9:57Speaker 1: he also, the thing that makes it hard to meet
- 10:00Speaker 1: is Will was framed because of his rap career.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Yes.
- 10:04Speaker 1: So he's rapping. His parents just don't understand. He wasn't
- 10:06Speaker 1: like gangster rap. He was fun. Yeah, silly raps, silly
- 10:11Speaker 1: music videos. Then Fresh Prince, he's very funny. So I
- 10:14Speaker 1: think because of that framing, then it's harder to see
- 10:18Speaker 1: him as that person. Denzel didn't have those things, so
- 10:22Speaker 1: it's easier to see him as Tripp.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Well, Denzel's trajectory was he was on the show St.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Elsewhere. Oh, I don't remember this. That was a TV drama.
- 10:33Speaker 3: He was part of the ensemble cast, so he also
- 10:36Speaker 3: had a TV.
- 10:38Speaker 2: kind of lead in.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Even though he had done like Carbon Copy, which was
- 10:41Speaker 3: a comedy and like stuff like that.
- 10:43Speaker 2: And he was doing theater. He started in theater. Yeah.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Then, but saying elsewhere, he was part of the ensemble
- 10:48Speaker 3: with his dramatic television.
- 10:50Speaker 2: So now you're geared for. He's Drama McGee. For the dramatic.
- 10:53Speaker 2: So they both had the TV, TV lead in.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:58Speaker 2: One, one dramatic, one comedy. Right.
- 11:01Speaker 1: But I think that comedy framing for Will makes us
- 11:04Speaker 1: see him in that light.
- 11:05Speaker 2: For sure.
- 11:06Speaker 1: And then he goes, a lot of his movies early on,
- 11:09Speaker 1: he's big charisma. He's not necessarily, he's not, he is
- 11:13Speaker 1: funny in Bad Boys. But he's also handsome.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:16Speaker 1: It's action, but it's like an action comedy.
- 11:18Speaker 3: He's like that good looking dude that has some jokes.
- 11:21Speaker 3: You know, the good looking dudes, they be funny, but
- 11:23Speaker 3: they don't be as funny as.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Richard Gere.
- 11:26Speaker 2: The funny, funny cat.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Yes.
- 11:28Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 11:28Speaker 1: And are we laughing because they're good looking?
- 11:31Speaker 2: You're like, you're so funny. Martin was carrying the comedic
- 11:37Speaker 2: load in that first one. For sure, for sure.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Okay, so you say no. You can't see Will as
- 11:44Speaker 1: in glory.
- 11:45Speaker 3: I can't see Will in glory 100%.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Okay, now you've seen, did you see?
- 11:52Speaker 2: Emancipation. I haven't, though.
- 11:54Speaker 1: See, I saw Emancipation. And I buy it hook, line,
- 11:58Speaker 1: and sinker.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Okay, okay. I haven't seen that one. I was slaved
- 12:01Speaker 2: out at the time. That's the only reason I didn't
- 12:02Speaker 2: watch it.
- 12:04Speaker 3: He called me when I was slaved out, man. I
- 12:08Speaker 3: was slaveried out.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Slaveried out is crazy. This ain't the time. I was
- 12:13Speaker 2: grieving heavy. I was just like, you know what? I
- 12:16Speaker 2: can't do it right now, Will. Because I watch everything
- 12:18Speaker 2: Will's in. Slaveried out is wild. We got Slaveried out.
- 12:23Speaker 2: I didn't watch Harriet. I didn't watch that. I didn't
- 12:25Speaker 2: watch Teal. I just couldn't.
- 12:29Speaker 3: I need a moment, y'all. These are important stories. But
- 12:33Speaker 3: god damn it, man.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Piss. Now I got to look at your back.
- 12:38Speaker 1: No.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I got to look at your beaten back. No, no,
- 12:41Speaker 2: for sure.
- 12:41Speaker 1: And I've already seen that picture.
- 12:42Speaker 2: A billion times.
- 12:43Speaker 1: That picture is edged into my brain. I can see
- 12:45Speaker 1: it right now.
- 12:46Speaker 2: For sure.
- 12:47Speaker 1: But in Emancipation, Will kills.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Okay.
- 12:51Speaker 1: He's very believable. Love Will. Accent. Don't let the accent work. Will,
- 12:57Speaker 1: you know you my nigga. If you want me to
- 12:58Speaker 1: come spend the night, I will.
- 12:59Speaker 3: So you don't like Will Smith doing accents? You didn't
- 13:03Speaker 3: like his concussion accent?
- 13:04Speaker 1: No.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Now let me put this on the table.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Tell the truth. Tell the truth. I was like, man,
- 13:10Speaker 1: I'm going to give myself a concussion.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Let me put this on the table as well. Denzel
- 13:17Speaker 3: tried to do an accent. His British accent worse than mine.
- 13:21Speaker 3: And that's saying something. I keep meaning to make that video.
- 13:25Speaker 2: He did the accent one time, never came back to accent.
- 13:28Speaker 1: He's in Gladiator 2 like, man, I'm Denzel Washington. I
- 13:31Speaker 1: don't know what y'all talking about. What is wrong? I'm
- 13:34Speaker 1: from America.
- 13:35Speaker 2: He a gladiator, too, with the Mount Vernon accent. You
- 13:39Speaker 2: know what I'm saying? Word to my mother, son. I'm
- 13:42Speaker 2: from around the way. I'm leaving here with something.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Hey, why you a saying dead ass in Rome?
- 13:47Speaker 2: Dead ass, B.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Bacon, egg, and cheese in Rome?
- 13:49Speaker 4: You can't.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Chopped cheese, son. Word life, B.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Word, too. Max a million. On my mother, you better
- 13:58Speaker 1: have my bacon, egg, and cheese.
- 14:02Speaker 2: It's brick out here, son.
- 14:03Speaker 1: We'll run this chariot on over you, son.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Word is born. So Denzel was just like, all right,
- 14:11Speaker 2: I'm cool on accents, y'all.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Listen, it's OK. It's OK, man. Some people can do it.
- 14:17Speaker 2: So who does the better accent?
- 14:21Speaker 1: Of the two? Yeah. Will.
- 14:22Speaker 2: I think so, too.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Of the two, Will.
- 14:25Speaker 2: I think so, too.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Didn't tell. Boy, and that accent, I said, oh, man,
- 14:29Speaker 1: I know you lying, bro. Why y'all ain't yell cut?
- 14:32Speaker 1: Because that's trash.
- 14:34Speaker 2: What kind of accent did he have in Emancipation? Southern?
- 14:36Speaker 1: He had like a kind of like southern accent. It
- 14:41Speaker 1: felt like it had a hint of Caribbean in it
- 14:43Speaker 1: for some reason. It didn't take me fully out of it,
- 14:47Speaker 1: but I did notice it a few times where I
- 14:49Speaker 1: was like, I'm like taking mental notes that I don't
- 14:54Speaker 1: like this. Yeah. But performance-wise.
- 14:57Speaker 2: It was great.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Performance-wise, it was great. It wasn't as good of a
- 15:00Speaker 1: movie as Glory overall. Yeah, yeah. But Will delivered on
- 15:04Speaker 1: the acting tip. OK. So for that reason, I think
- 15:06Speaker 1: I could see him in Glory.
- 15:09Speaker 2: OK.
- 15:09Speaker 1: And also, let's just be clear. Part of acting and
- 15:13Speaker 1: casting is the role is very different based on who
- 15:16Speaker 1: you bring to the table.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Right.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Me and you are funny. We're funny in very different ways.
- 15:21Speaker 1: So if we were cast in a movie or something,
- 15:23Speaker 1: it might be something we can play the reverse characters.
- 15:25Speaker 1: It's going to be totally different.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Right.
- 15:26Speaker 1: So we understand that. We're just saying I think he
- 15:32Speaker 1: could do it. Yeah. But I would choose Denzel in
- 15:35Speaker 1: that one.
- 15:36Speaker 2: OK.
- 15:36Speaker 1: All right. So next Will Smith movie, I'm going to
- 15:39Speaker 1: go with Will Smith. What I believe is my favorite
- 15:43Speaker 1: Will Smith movie, Enemy of the State.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Okay.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I love Enemy of the State. Yeah. It's fantastic. Yeah.
- 15:50Speaker 2: It's great.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I do believe Denzel could play Enemy of the State.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Absolutely. A thousand percent.
- 15:55Speaker 1: I don't think I lose anything from Enemy of the
- 15:59Speaker 1: State if Denzel replaces Will.
- 16:01Speaker 2: And it's Tony Scott. Tony Scott loves Denzel.
- 16:04Speaker 1: It's Man on Fire, right? Yeah.
- 16:05Speaker 2: They did four movies together.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. I'm surprised.
- 16:09Speaker 3: I'm willing to even bet they probably approached Denzel to
- 16:12Speaker 3: do the movie.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised.
- 16:14Speaker 3: He probably, he probably, that was around 99. I'm not
- 16:17Speaker 3: sure what Denzel had come out. He probably chose something
- 16:21Speaker 3: over Enemy of the State, but I can easily see.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Denzel in that movie.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't think it loses anything. Denzel didn't get into,
- 16:30Speaker 1: I mean, it's not really action in that movie. Just
- 16:33Speaker 1: like a few running scenes. Yeah. Denzel didn't really get
- 16:36Speaker 1: to too much action in that movie. What was it like?
- 16:40Speaker 3: Well, his first action movie was Ricochet. That was like
- 16:43Speaker 3: a straight.
- 16:44Speaker 1: When was that?
- 16:45Speaker 2: That was like 92, 91, 92. I didn't see Ricochet.
- 16:49Speaker 2: You never saw Ricochet?
- 16:50Speaker 1: No.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Oh, snap, girl.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Is it good?
- 16:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it came out in 91.
- 16:53Speaker 1: It's good. Okay.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a cop. He gets framed. John Lickgall is
- 16:58Speaker 2: the villain. Oh, I love that. Yo, you got to
- 16:59Speaker 2: watch Ricochet.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I'm going to check it out.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm going to check it out.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Okay, in me the state.
- 17:04Speaker 2: In the United States, I can see Denzel doing it.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Okay, you're up.
- 17:06Speaker 2: For sure.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Next Denzel movie, yeah.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Men in Black.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Ooh, with Denzel? Yeah.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I don't know, man.
- 17:17Speaker 1: We was talking about this off camera. Yeah. Straight comedy, comedy, comedy.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Denzel has yet to prove his comedic chops, for real.
- 17:25Speaker 1: In a movie.
- 17:26Speaker 2: In a movie on a successful level.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Yes. He's funny in that Jamie Foxx interview.
- 17:31Speaker 3: He's funny in interviews, but in the movie, he doesn't
- 17:34Speaker 3: have a comedy hit.
- 17:36Speaker 1: No. OK, so what has he even done comedically? Because
- 17:39Speaker 1: I ain't seen it.
- 17:39Speaker 3: So he was in Carbon Copy, which bombed. And he
- 17:44Speaker 3: was in a bomb in Heart Condition, which also bombed.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Those are two comedic bombs early in his career. The
- 17:54Speaker 3: Preacher's Wife is a blend between drama and comedy.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:58Speaker 2: But I guess it leans more.
- 17:59Speaker 1: He's more charming than funny.
- 18:00Speaker 2: He's charming. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:02Speaker 1: So.
- 18:02Speaker 2: I wouldn't even.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Say The Preacher's Wife is a funny movie. It's heartwarming funny. Like,
- 18:08Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying? It's cute. Well, here you
- 18:10Speaker 1: go with cute.
- 18:11Speaker 2: It's cute, dog.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Here you go with cute, man. Cute is a negative
- 18:15Speaker 1: coming from you.
- 18:16Speaker 2: No, man.
- 18:17Speaker 1: No, you always say Sister Act 2, Back in the
- 18:19Speaker 1: Habit is cute. It is. Yeah.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Bridget's wife is cute, man.
- 18:24Speaker 1: It is cute. It's a cute little movie. It's cute.
- 18:26Speaker 2: That little boy and whatnot, the little toy car that
- 18:29Speaker 2: he made. Oh, I never had a siren before. It's cute, man.
- 18:33Speaker 1: But see, the thing about Men in Black, this is
- 18:35Speaker 1: what I think Will does really well. Will can veer
- 18:39Speaker 1: into silliness, and he still maintains his charisma. Yes. And
- 18:45Speaker 1: Men in Black, it veers into silliness, and that's what
- 18:49Speaker 1: makes it fun and funny. I ain't seen Denzel be
- 18:54Speaker 1: silly ever.
- 18:55Speaker 3: I feel like he doesn't have a silly bone in
- 18:57Speaker 3: his body. Humorous bone.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Humorous for sure.
- 19:01Speaker 2: But silly, especially getting physically silly, I can't see him
- 19:05Speaker 2: doing it.
- 19:05Speaker 1: My favorite scene, Will and that egg chair.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Sold me on that movie. And I just can't visualize
- 19:14Speaker 1: Denzel doing that and it coming across as funny to me.
- 19:18Speaker 1: And also, what works in that movie is Old cranky
- 19:23Speaker 1: Tommy Lee.
- 19:24Speaker 2: For sure. Young, full of life, Will.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Yeah. Denzel never really came across young to me. Even
- 19:32Speaker 1: when he was young, he never felt young. Yeah. Because
- 19:35Speaker 1: he's young in glory compared.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:38Speaker 1: But he felt like he wasn't that far in age
- 19:41Speaker 1: from Morgan Freeman. Yeah. You know what I mean? But
- 19:44Speaker 1: Will is very visibly younger and more green than Tommy
- 19:49Speaker 1: Lee Jones, who's the grizzled veteran of the men in black,
- 19:51Speaker 1: you know, core. And I think that's what makes that
- 19:54Speaker 1: movie work.
- 19:55Speaker 3: The grown man element of Denzel is a great bring
- 19:58Speaker 3: up because he's always felt like, even in the movie
- 20:03Speaker 3: like Crimson Tide, for example, where Gene Hackman was the
- 20:06Speaker 3: superior man technically the superior in that submarine and also
- 20:12Speaker 3: from an acting pedigree standpoint, you still never felt like.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Denzel was the young upstart, whatever.
- 20:19Speaker 1: He's that mace clip, like, you're not going to big
- 20:21Speaker 1: homie me. Right. Like, I'm not falling for that. He's
- 20:23Speaker 1: never been big homie. You're not going to big homie me.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Somebody on Patreon just said this, and I agree. They
- 20:27Speaker 1: said Denzel could be Tommy Lee Jones, and Will could
- 20:30Speaker 1: still be Will, and that movie works.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Yes. He could be Tommy Lee Jones. He could easily
- 20:35Speaker 2: be Tommy Lee Jones. I can see him as Tommy
- 20:36Speaker 2: Lee Jones for sure.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Rizzo veteran, McGee. 1,000%. Cantankerous. Yeah. Been here before. Cool
- 20:43Speaker 1: under pressure. Yeah.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Slick, yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 3: Another scene in Men in Black that I cannot see
- 20:50Speaker 3: Denzel doing. Remember when Tommy Lee Jones was talking to
- 20:54Speaker 3: somebody and Will Smith was trying.
- 20:57Speaker 2: To deliver that alien baby in the background. Yes. And
- 21:00Speaker 2: that alien was slinging him around. He was like, ah, ah.
- 21:04Speaker 3: He was getting slammed against the roof of the car,
- 21:06Speaker 3: screaming bloody murder.
- 21:07Speaker 2: I can't see Denzel back there screaming.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Will is at his best. Yeah. The beatboxing, I don't
- 21:13Speaker 1: remember which one that was in. The Biz Marquis scene
- 21:16Speaker 1: and Will.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Right.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Man, Denzel ain't beatboxing. Yeah.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Silly McGee.
- 21:24Speaker 1: And watch out. Yeah. So, no, I cannot see Denzel
- 21:28Speaker 1: in any of the Men in Black.
- 21:29Speaker 2: As Agent J.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Agent J, no way, Jose.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Okay.
- 21:33Speaker 1: All right. So, I'm up. What, am I picking a
- 21:37Speaker 1: Denzel movie? Yeah. Yeah. Malcolm X.
- 21:43Speaker 2: I cannot see Will Smith playing Malcolm X.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Even though you saw Ali.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:47Speaker 1: He pulled off the biopic.
- 21:49Speaker 2: I can't see him playing Malcolm.
- 21:51Speaker 1: That is so Denzel. I might be blinded by how
- 21:55Speaker 1: good Denzel is in that.
- 21:57Speaker 3: And Denzel had a leg up in that because he
- 22:00Speaker 3: had already played Malcolm X on stage.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Ah.
- 22:03Speaker 2: So he was already like... Usually when you take actors that.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Have lived in a role on stage first, then it
- 22:10Speaker 3: goes to the big screen, you can see that lived-in experience.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Yes. And so... um so.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Denzel had he had he already was like bathed in
- 22:22Speaker 3: in malcolm yes before they even started rolling camera.
- 22:25Speaker 1: He is malcolm x yeah yeah that was my introduction
- 22:28Speaker 1: to malcolm x was through that movie it was 92.
- 22:31Speaker 2: 92 yeah so i was nine yeah.
- 22:34Speaker 1: So that was everything malcolm x is always compared to
- 22:37Speaker 1: denzel okay and.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Even the real malcolm you compared to denzel well He
- 22:43Speaker 2: was like, let me look at the real Malcolm. He's
- 22:45Speaker 2: not really selling me on it.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Unfortunately for anybody picking up Malcolm, I'm so sorry.
- 22:50Speaker 2: I will say, though, people have done a good job
- 22:53Speaker 2: portraying Malcolm.
- 22:54Speaker 1: But I've never been like, oh, you better than Dan.
- 22:57Speaker 2: No, no.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I was just like, oh, you did good. Like, one
- 23:00Speaker 1: night in Miami, I forgot the actor's name. He was
- 23:02Speaker 1: great as Malcolm.
- 23:02Speaker 2: He was great as Malcolm, yeah.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Mario Van Peebles was- He was Malcolm and Ali.
- 23:07Speaker 2: I thought he did a good job, too.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I thought he did good. Yeah.
- 23:09Speaker 2: But also- They didn't give him a lot of real estate.
- 23:12Speaker 1: That's the thing.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Denzel is Malcolm from Detroit Red.
- 23:16Speaker 2: For sure. We see the full spectrum of who Malcolm was.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Malcolm Little and X.
- 23:22Speaker 1: And X. And the fallout with The Nation. Right. So
- 23:26Speaker 1: it's like, we ain't never seen another full-on Malcolm X biopic.
- 23:32Speaker 1: I haven't.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:33Speaker 2: No, no, Joshua. Malcolm in the middle is crazy. No, Josh.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Okay, so no Will.
- 23:38Speaker 2: I can't see Will doing Malcolm X. I don't think so. Yeah. Love,
- 23:42Speaker 2: love Will.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Love Will. Okay. All right, go ahead.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Denzel is Ali. Can you see it?
- 23:50Speaker 1: Okay, so now Ali has a little bit of an accent. Like,
- 23:53Speaker 1: he has a cadence the way he speaks. For sure.
- 23:56Speaker 1: That I think Will got. And Denzel was Hurricane Carter.
- 24:01Speaker 1: He played the boxer really well.
- 24:03Speaker 2: He was great in the Hurricanes. That's one of my
- 24:04Speaker 2: favorite performances. It is.
- 24:06Speaker 1: You love that. Yeah. But I had no idea about
- 24:08Speaker 1: Reuben Carter.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I had great ideas about Ali. That
- 24:11Speaker 2: was my introduction to Reuben Carter was that movie. I
- 24:15Speaker 2: can't see Denzel.
- 24:16Speaker 3: But could Denzel be Muhammad Ali, who is a big personality?
- 24:20Speaker 1: I feel like Will's larger-than-life persona helps a lot. Okay,
- 24:28Speaker 1: because they're both huge stars.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Do I believe Will's more charismatic than Denzel? Okay, I
- 24:36Speaker 1: think y'all know what it is. Denzel has a quiet charisma. Yeah.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Will Smith has a big charisma. Yeah. Denzel walk into
- 24:43Speaker 1: a room, no words, just on the walk.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:46Speaker 1: That's that nigga.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Oh, gravity. The gravity is there without a word being said.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Will is.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Yeah, he's going to come in.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Hey, y'all, I'm Will Smith, which is how Ali enters
- 24:57Speaker 1: a room. Ali doesn't enter a room quiet. He's laughing.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Angel said Ali did a magic show at her elementary school. Yeah. Right?
- 25:04Speaker 1: That's a big.
- 25:05Speaker 2: For sure.
- 25:06Speaker 1: But Denzel, which is why I think Denzel kills as
- 25:08Speaker 1: Frank Lucas. Yeah. That's a quiet charisma, cool charisma. It's
- 25:13Speaker 1: like George Clooney, that coolness factor.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Right, right, right.
- 25:17Speaker 1: So I think that's why Will works as Ali in
- 25:19Speaker 1: a way Denzel might not work as Ali. Because Ali
- 25:22Speaker 1: was larger than life. And Will's also a large person. Right.
- 25:25Speaker 1: You know, like literally he's like 6'4. I don't think Denzel,
- 25:28Speaker 1: I think he's like 5'11, 6'4. I don't know how
- 25:30Speaker 1: tall he is.
- 25:30Speaker 2: I'm not sure how tall Denzel is. He's not 6'4. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:34Speaker 2: I don't think Will is 6'4. He's not that tall.
- 25:36Speaker 1: No, he is. He's 6'4? I think so.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Then we took that. Well, you're 6'3, so you might
- 25:41Speaker 1: not feel tall to you.
- 25:42Speaker 2: I'm 6'2, man. You always pumping my height up.
- 25:43Speaker 1: You're 6'3.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Denzel's 6'1?
- 25:46Speaker 1: Denzel's 6'1?
- 25:46Speaker 2: Well, that's what the internet says.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Wow. Will Smith.
- 25:51Speaker 2: How tall is he?
- 25:52Speaker 1: Okay, we got too many Will Smiths. They talk about
- 25:54Speaker 1: the character. That says Will Smith 6'2. Yeah.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Yeah, 6'4. He's at least 6'. He's only 6'2? I
- 26:02Speaker 2: knew he wasn't 6'4.
- 26:03Speaker 1: What are you talking about, Kev? I don't know.
- 26:05Speaker 3: He just looks tall, you know, when you watch the
- 26:07Speaker 3: Fresh Prince Carlton in short.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Yeah, he's 6'2.
- 26:10Speaker 4: I was wrong.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:13Speaker 2: How tall was Muhammad Ali?
- 26:16Speaker 1: 6'4.
- 26:17Speaker 2: He looks tall. Let's see. But he would come in hot,
- 26:21Speaker 2: just all personality.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Yeah, he would.
- 26:24Speaker 3: 6'3.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Okay, okay.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Marcus Tankley's 6'4, though. Somebody's going to be 6'4.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Somebody's 6'4.
- 26:28Speaker 1: All right, so no Will. I mean, no Denzel. Where
- 26:32Speaker 1: were we at?
- 26:32Speaker 2: I can't see Denzel as Ali. I don't think I
- 26:35Speaker 2: can either.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't see it. Yeah, I don't think so.
- 26:39Speaker 1: All right, who's up? I'm losing track. It's me. A
- 26:46Speaker 1: Denzel movie.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Okay.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Okay. Let's go training day.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Will Smith in training day.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Now, here's the beautiful part about Alonzo in training day.
- 27:02Speaker 3: He showed us multiple facets of the type of person
- 27:06Speaker 3: he was.
- 27:07Speaker 2: It's some Mike Lowry in Alonzo.
- 27:10Speaker 1: It really is.
- 27:11Speaker 3: It's some Mike Lowry in there. Especially, I'm talking bad
- 27:14Speaker 3: boys too, Mike Lowry.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:17Speaker 3: And I can see I can see Will Smith being
- 27:22Speaker 3: charming to Ethan Hawke.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Charisma McGee.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Charisma all day.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Look, Denzel had the big charisma in that one.
- 27:29Speaker 2: He did. He had big charisma in that. He was big.
- 27:31Speaker 2: He was big in training day.
- 27:32Speaker 1: He was big personality in training day. He was with
- 27:35Speaker 1: the wise men.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:37Speaker 1: With Roger. He was very, not funny, but like charming.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Like that's why it worked.
- 27:45Speaker 2: The charm was there. But here's the thing though.
- 27:48Speaker 3: I feel like Will Smith being charming would make it
- 27:53Speaker 3: harder to believe that he had a darkness to him.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Well, that's what I was going to say. Will Smith
- 27:59Speaker 2: would probably fool me even more than Denzel did.
- 28:02Speaker 1: But then the question is, because I agree with you.
- 28:05Speaker 1: I feel like the Ethan Hawke's character was like, oh,
- 28:07Speaker 1: this guy's great.
- 28:08Speaker 2: He's training me.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Denzel gets to a level of evil when Jake realizes it.
- 28:17Speaker 1: So after the Mexicans, right? I'm surgical with this.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:23Speaker 1: With this girl. Policia, policia.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Hi, papi. Hi, mami.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Yeah. That final scene, King Kong.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Right.
- 28:33Speaker 1: I don't know. I think Will could do that.
- 28:35Speaker 2: You know what?
- 28:36Speaker 1: I think Will could do that.
- 28:38Speaker 3: Because I can see Will going big.
- 28:40Speaker 2: For sure. In the jungle like he did.
- 28:43Speaker 1: And he's a big personality. And....
- 28:49Speaker 3: We've seen Will Smith be desperate. We've seen him, you
- 28:51Speaker 3: know what I'm saying? I feel like Will Smith could
- 28:54Speaker 3: do Training Day.
- 28:55Speaker 1: I think Training Day, I would sign up for just
- 28:58Speaker 1: the same different movie.
- 28:59Speaker 2: He could be charming in the diner. He could be
- 29:01Speaker 2: charming in the whip.
- 29:02Speaker 1: My newspaper.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Giving you laced drugs.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Yes, I read this because of entertainment. You keep interrupting me,
- 29:06Speaker 1: you entertain me. It's cool, but you're interrupting me, you
- 29:11Speaker 1: entertain me. Macy Gray scene. The leading the guy. I'm in.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I can see Will Smith in Training Day.
- 29:19Speaker 1: It's just the dark, dark part. But that's not the
- 29:23Speaker 1: big part of that movie.
- 29:24Speaker 2: No, it's the fooling of everybody that he was doing.
- 29:30Speaker 1: And that's the thing that I think Will's charisma and gravitas.
- 29:34Speaker 2: For sure.
- 29:34Speaker 1: As Mike Lowry with the two guns, you absolutely believe.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Mike Lowry, you can put him.
- 29:40Speaker 3: In that Crip neighborhood, and he going to fire at
- 29:42Speaker 3: y'all two guns blazing.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Absolutely. He's done it.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Okay. All right. All right.
- 29:48Speaker 2: How about this, though?
- 29:49Speaker 1: Okay. Pull it up.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Denzel and Hitch.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Absolutely not. Absolutely not. I mean, absolutely not. We was
- 30:02Speaker 1: talking about this before we started. Cool character training Kevin James. Yes.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Yes.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Two-step, I don't know if it's funny, slapping Kevin James. Yes.
- 30:14Speaker 1: But when he was with Eva Longoria.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Eva Mendez.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Eva Mendez. Yes. You knew it. Yeah. That part where
- 30:22Speaker 1: he's head over heels and doesn't know how to be cool.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Kicking her off the jet ski on accident.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Allergic reaction.
- 30:28Speaker 3: Allergic reaction. I can't see Denzel doing that. Going big
- 30:35Speaker 3: and silly and clumsy. I can't see it.
- 30:37Speaker 1: The big face makeup.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Denzel ain't never said, man, laugh at this. I just
- 30:43Speaker 1: don't know if I would be thinking it's funny. Will
- 30:46Speaker 1: is perfect for that.
- 30:48Speaker 2: For sure.
- 30:49Speaker 1: He's perfect for that.
- 30:50Speaker 3: I believed him when he was cool and teaching Kevin James.
- 30:52Speaker 3: I believed it when he was fumbling over Eva Mendes.
- 30:55Speaker 2: For sure.
- 30:56Speaker 1: I want Denzel to do this.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Oh, for sure.
- 30:58Speaker 1: He's 70.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Where's my meet the parents? Where's my analyze this?
- 31:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:06Speaker 1: And you don't have to veer. Robert De Niro is
- 31:08Speaker 1: not being, he's being funny as the straight guy. Yeah.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Not any Ben Stiller or Billy Crystal.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:14Speaker 1: But make me laugh. You've been cool. You're 70.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Come on, man. Nah, man. Equalizer.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Equalizer 4. Okay. So hell nah is Hitch.
- 31:28Speaker 2: So no Denzel and Hitch.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Hell nah is Hitch. I would turn that movie off.
- 31:33Speaker 2: All right.
- 31:35Speaker 3: Because Denzel, and Will Smith has a leg up on
- 31:38Speaker 3: Denzel because he has done comedy at.
- 31:42Speaker 2: A high level. Yes. And a lot of it.
- 31:44Speaker 1: And done it well.
- 31:45Speaker 2: And Hitch was a romantic comedy that sold.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Which you don't even like.
- 31:49Speaker 2: And I loved Hitch.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Right.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Massive hit, but Denzel don't have that.
- 31:54Speaker 3: No.
- 31:55Speaker 1: And you 70D. If you want to get one on Tubi,
- 31:59Speaker 1: I'll listen. If it's a script issue, I know a guy.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Now we're going to pay you sad minimum.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Sad minimum is crazy.
- 32:09Speaker 1: 179 a day.
- 32:09Speaker 2: He 20 million the picture. 20 million pesos.
- 32:11Speaker 1: No. No per diem, no dressing room.
- 32:18Speaker 2: You had to do it for the love, though.
- 32:20Speaker 1: You have as many Uncrustables as you as your heart
- 32:22Speaker 1: can take.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Quarterbaker.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Quarterbaker. Yeah, your dressing room might be a pop-up tent.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Do it for the culture, D.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Man.
- 32:31Speaker 1: You know what you would do to me if you
- 32:33Speaker 1: did a Kev on stage comedy? Come on, Denzel. You're 70.
- 32:37Speaker 2: 70.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Give back. Me, you, and Tony. 80s buddy cop.
- 32:42Speaker 2: You're the captain.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Oh, man. Come on, Denzel.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Denzel is the captain?
- 32:47Speaker 1: Michael Keen's role.
- 32:48Speaker 2: In the other guys.
- 32:50Speaker 1: In the other guys. Yes. Give us that, Denzel. He
- 32:53Speaker 1: was still a straight guy.
- 32:55Speaker 2: He was a straight guy, but he was funny as hell.
- 32:56Speaker 1: He's giving TLC stuff the funny stuff. He keeps quoting
- 32:59Speaker 1: TLC lyrics and acting like they're not. TLC lyrics.
- 33:02Speaker 2: There is comedic gold in playing it straight. Yes.
- 33:05Speaker 3: That's what makes Airplane work. That's what makes the Naked
- 33:08Speaker 3: Gun movies work.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Yes.
- 33:10Speaker 2: That's what makes High Shives Part 2 work. Part 2.
- 33:12Speaker 2: They playing it straight.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Denzel, I know you watching this.
- 33:18Speaker 2: For sure. He watching.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Denzel's watching this.
- 33:20Speaker 2: He watching this.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Hit me up. KevOnStage169 at Hotmail.com is my email address.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Because he got to give us the comedy, man. Please.
- 33:31Speaker 1: You've done everything.
- 33:32Speaker 2: He's done action. He's done drama.
- 33:34Speaker 1: There's nothing. He's done historical drama. He's done romantic. He
- 33:36Speaker 1: was super romantic in a few movies. Yeah. Deja Vu.
- 33:41Speaker 2: He was in Mississippi Masala.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Yes. Chicken Tikka Masala. We'll have that for lunch one day.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Give us the comedy.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Give us the comedy. All right. Can Will do Remember
- 33:52Speaker 1: the Titans?
- 33:54Speaker 2: Yes.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Coach Herman Boone. Yeah.
- 33:57Speaker 2: I think so. I can see Will Smith doing that.
- 33:59Speaker 1: You're not having fun now, are you? Yeah. Not so fun,
- 34:01Speaker 1: are you? Donald Faison was so funny. He was. But see,
- 34:05Speaker 1: that's comedic right there.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:08Speaker 1: But he's never like leaning full in. But I do
- 34:11Speaker 1: think Will could. I would.
- 34:13Speaker 2: I can see him.
- 34:13Speaker 1: I would sign up. I would see it.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Okay. All right. Go ahead, Tom. How about. I feel like.
- 34:22Speaker 2: All right. I am legend.
- 34:26Speaker 1: That's the book of Eli. True. True. He already did it.
- 34:32Speaker 2: He already did it.
- 34:33Speaker 1: And he killed it. There's just more people in the
- 34:35Speaker 1: book of Eli.
- 34:36Speaker 2: For sure.
- 34:37Speaker 1: But everything you did in I Am Legend.
- 34:40Speaker 2: The first half of the book of Eli is I
- 34:42Speaker 2: Am Legend.
- 34:44Speaker 1: It's just, it's all like sepia. It's like, I am
- 34:49Speaker 1: legend deep fried. And he was, Denzel, we just re-watched
- 34:53Speaker 1: the book of Eli. Denzel killed.
- 34:55Speaker 2: Oh yeah, for sure.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I think everything Will did in that, as the
- 34:59Speaker 1: doctor by himself with the dog, with the zombies. That's
- 35:07Speaker 1: Denzel's wheelhouse, really.
- 35:09Speaker 2: That's Denzel material.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Not everybody can carry a movie with nobody else. Denzel,
- 35:16Speaker 1: that beginning of Book of Eli, when he's just walking,
- 35:19Speaker 1: you'd be like, I don't know why this is interesting.
- 35:21Speaker 1: It's interesting because.
- 35:22Speaker 3: I just enjoy watching him live his life. The film
- 35:26Speaker 3: opens him hunting a cat to eat. And then you
- 35:30Speaker 3: see him preparing the cat or whatever, listening to music.
- 35:33Speaker 2: It's just like, and I'm all in. I'm just like, yo,
- 35:35Speaker 2: this is how he living life. He's walking. I'm just like, oh,
- 35:38Speaker 2: we walking now.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Yep. You know the trap is set. He's on top
- 35:41Speaker 1: of it. He smelled the people being musty. Yep. Right?
- 35:44Speaker 1: Saving the girl. Of course he's saving the girl.
- 35:48Speaker 3: That's his wheelhouse. And, you know, I know he could
- 35:50Speaker 3: take it further. Remember that scene in the hurricane where
- 35:53Speaker 3: he was in solitary confinement and he was three different
- 35:56Speaker 3: people within the scene?
- 35:57Speaker 1: Yes. You remember that? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 36:00Speaker 3: So that's Denzel in isolation, you know, tripping. Because, you know,
- 36:04Speaker 3: remember Will Smith had that meltdown with the mannequin.
- 36:08Speaker 2: No! No!
- 36:09Speaker 1: No! I use that gif all the time.
- 36:13Speaker 3: We've seen, you know, Denzel have the meltdown moment in
- 36:18Speaker 3: the solitary confinement, being three distinct individuals.
- 36:22Speaker 2: So, yeah.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Yeah, okay.
- 36:23Speaker 2: That's light work. Okay.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Can Will Smith be Frank Lucas in American Gangster?
- 36:28Speaker 2: Ooh.
- 36:32Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 36:33Speaker 2: I don't know, dog. I'm not really seeing it.
- 36:36Speaker 1: That's the cool. This is Denzel's cool.
- 36:38Speaker 2: This is Denzel's real hot.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Cool charisma, Denzel.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Serious business on the drug tip.
- 36:44Speaker 1: When he killed Idris Elba's character, did you go to
- 36:48Speaker 1: shoot me in the middle of the street? Yeah.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Matter of fact, yes. I can't really see Will in
- 36:54Speaker 2: American Gangsta like that.
- 36:56Speaker 1: There was a coolness in a way that Denzel portrays that.
- 37:02Speaker 2: I just can't, I cannot see.
- 37:04Speaker 3: Like with him going off, him having those moments of
- 37:07Speaker 3: anger with a dude, he just beat the dude down
- 37:10Speaker 3: in the piano.
- 37:11Speaker 2: Yeah. And just like going off.
- 37:13Speaker 1: You talk to Huey.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Going off on his brother, slapping the ice can, and
- 37:16Speaker 3: just like, I'll pack him, man. Y'all done blew my
- 37:18Speaker 3: spot up. And then, you know, he kind of turned
- 37:23Speaker 3: Will Smithy at the end when they had him did
- 37:25Speaker 3: the rights.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Yes.
- 37:26Speaker 3: But everything leading up to that, I don't know if
- 37:29Speaker 3: I can see Will up in that thing.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Just that's.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Nah. Yeah. Nah, man. I can't see. Nah, man.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Nah. They tried to kill my wife.
- 37:43Speaker 2: Okay.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Okay.
- 37:44Speaker 2: All right, you up. Could you see Denzel in the
- 37:51Speaker 2: pursuit of happiness?
- 37:55Speaker 1: Ooh, okay. Okay, this is good.
- 38:00Speaker 2: I can't.
- 38:01Speaker 1: You can't?
- 38:01Speaker 2: Can't.
- 38:03Speaker 1: What makes the pursuit of happiness work to me is
- 38:10Speaker 1: a level of desperation.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:14Speaker 1: I got to make this work. And I don't want
- 38:17Speaker 1: to say a shell of a man, but I'm on
- 38:19Speaker 1: the brink of losing it all.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:24Speaker 1: I do believe it, but what Denzel performance makes you
- 38:27Speaker 1: believe that he could?
- 38:28Speaker 2: John Q.
- 38:29Speaker 1: And there it is. And there it is.
- 38:32Speaker 2: He was Desperate McGee in that movie.
- 38:35Speaker 1: That is absolutely what it is.
- 38:37Speaker 3: And, you know, in the pursuit of happiness, Will Smith
- 38:41Speaker 3: would sit in those desperate moments longer than Denzel, but
- 38:43Speaker 3: Denzel would have those flashes of desperation in John Q
- 38:48Speaker 3: all throughout.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:50Speaker 3: Even within the conversation where, that conversation where he was
- 38:53Speaker 3: talking to James Woods and the people was.
- 38:54Speaker 2: There, and he was just like, no, man, he's a
- 38:56Speaker 2: great kid. You like him.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 39:00Speaker 2: You seeing these, he was just like, no.
- 39:02Speaker 1: You like him.
- 39:03Speaker 2: I won't accept that. Yeah.
- 39:05Speaker 3: You know, you see those desperate moments that's all over
- 39:08Speaker 3: the pursuit of happiness.
- 39:09Speaker 2: So I could absolutely see him in desperate times. Yeah.
- 39:13Speaker 1: OK. Yeah. OK. Can you see Will Smith in Fences?
- 39:20Speaker 2: I cannot.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Fences.
- 39:23Speaker 3: I can't see it. He was so unlikable in Fences, man.
- 39:30Speaker 3: And that's a character that I'm familiar with because I
- 39:33Speaker 3: played him in theater. And so Troy is just a
- 39:37Speaker 3: piece of work, man.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Man, that scene with his son, like you. Why you
- 39:43Speaker 1: don't never like me?
- 39:43Speaker 2: It's heartbreaking.
- 39:44Speaker 1: You think Mr. Wiggins paid me because he liked me?
- 39:46Speaker 1: He paid me because he owed me.
- 39:47Speaker 2: Yes.
- 39:47Speaker 1: To your son?
- 39:48Speaker 2: To your own son.
- 39:49Speaker 3: How come he don't like me, man? Who says I
- 39:51Speaker 3: got to like you? I put a roof over your head,
- 39:54Speaker 3: clothes over your head. Get out of my face with.
- 39:56Speaker 2: This bullshit ass. I got to like you. I'm like, damn, man.
- 40:01Speaker 1: And then he turned around and did Viola Davis so
- 40:05Speaker 1: wrong with the fresh baby.
- 40:06Speaker 2: So wrong.
- 40:08Speaker 1: He did her dirty.
- 40:09Speaker 2: He's like, hey, man, this is what it is. Raise
- 40:11Speaker 2: this baby with me.
- 40:12Speaker 1: Yeah. I've been standing right with you, Troy.
- 40:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I've been standing in the same place.
- 40:17Speaker 1: You know the hardest place to happen in the same
- 40:19Speaker 1: place for 18 years?
- 40:19Speaker 2: Right.
- 40:20Speaker 1: I've been with you, Troy.
- 40:21Speaker 3: I've been standing with you. But I can't see Will
- 40:27Speaker 3: Smith in that role.
- 40:28Speaker 1: I don't. Even though Will is closing in on the
- 40:33Speaker 1: age that's a little bit younger, but with the makeup,
- 40:36Speaker 1: he's kind of King Richard-esque.
- 40:38Speaker 2: You could get a glimpse of him with the King Richard.
- 40:40Speaker 2: With King Richard.
- 40:40Speaker 1: King Richard. Because he wasn't likable, per se.
- 40:46Speaker 2: He wasn't, yeah.
- 40:47Speaker 3: He was protective of his kids. He was definitely leaning Troy.
- 40:49Speaker 3: He was leaning Troy by that time. He was loving
- 40:51Speaker 3: his kids more.
- 40:52Speaker 1: He was loving his kids more. But he had those flashes.
- 40:56Speaker 1: He was riding for them.
- 40:58Speaker 2: He was unlikable to anybody that was getting in the
- 41:01Speaker 2: way of the vision.
- 41:02Speaker 1: 1,000%.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Which is something we respected as an audience.
- 41:04Speaker 1: So could you turn that up? And there's no kids.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Do you now have Troy?
- 41:10Speaker 3: If you age Will Smith up, liking the King Richard
- 41:13Speaker 3: and just make him, maybe.
- 41:16Speaker 2: He might be able to. There's a lane for that.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Because of King Richard.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Because of King Richard.
- 41:21Speaker 1: No King Richard, I don't believe it. But King Richard
- 41:24Speaker 1: in a different, because also Richard Williams was a little
- 41:27Speaker 1: bit terrible. They didn't cover that in the movie though. Yeah.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Like he had another daughter.
- 41:32Speaker 2: They did, yeah.
- 41:33Speaker 1: There was some other stuff about him. Right. If they
- 41:36Speaker 1: honed in on that, you might have Troy. True.
- 41:39Speaker 2: True.
- 41:39Speaker 1: You know what I mean? It's just the story they
- 41:41Speaker 1: were telling is like, here's how his actions helped create
- 41:45Speaker 1: Venus and Serena.
- 41:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 41:46Speaker 1: And because they're black and he's protected father. Yeah. But
- 41:49Speaker 1: them other kids probably know a different version of Richard Williams.
- 41:53Speaker 2: That's true.
- 41:53Speaker 1: And because Will won an Oscar for that role, I'm
- 41:56Speaker 1: led to believe he could deal with that material and
- 41:59Speaker 1: now he might be Troy. Yeah.
- 42:01Speaker 2: I'm not mad at this.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:02Speaker 2: You done sold me.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Yeah. I think I could believe it.
- 42:05Speaker 2: You done sold me.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Will killed that. I was really impressed with him.
- 42:08Speaker 3: He was great in King Richard. I hate that he
- 42:10Speaker 3: slapped Chris Rock. No, it really happened.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Not, you know what I'm saying? No, no, I know
- 42:15Speaker 2: what you mean.
- 42:15Speaker 3: But just that overshadowed what he really did in that movie.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Like, he deserved that Oscar.
- 42:21Speaker 1: And that isn't, you don't, it's, you almost forget he
- 42:24Speaker 1: won an Oscar that night sometimes.
- 42:27Speaker 2: Because that slap overshadowed everything.
- 42:29Speaker 1: And you know who dapped him up in the back?
- 42:31Speaker 2: Denzel.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Denzel. Denzel dapped him up. Denzel was like, my man.
- 42:38Speaker 1: My nigga. Dapped him up. Him and Sam Jackson.
- 42:43Speaker 2: Then he was dapping him up.
- 42:44Speaker 1: That's McKee. Dapper at midnight.
- 42:47Speaker 2: Hey, man.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Go to commercial break. That's what the hell I'm talking about, man.
- 42:50Speaker 1: That's what I would have done. I wish somebody would
- 42:52Speaker 1: have talked about Paul Mack.
- 42:53Speaker 2: I've been wanting to slap somebody in this Hollywood game
- 42:56Speaker 2: for decades. And you really didn't. It didn't have to
- 43:00Speaker 2: be Chris, but we wanted to slap somebody on the
- 43:03Speaker 2: main stage.
- 43:04Speaker 1: On the main stage, Denzel was like, mm-hmm.
- 43:08Speaker 2: Man, but he really was good in that movie. He was.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Okay, so you buy it.
- 43:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I can see, based on the strength of King Richard,
- 43:16Speaker 3: I can see Will Smith in Fences.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
- 43:20Speaker 1: All right, what's next?
- 43:22Speaker 3: So how about, could you see Denzel in Bad Boys?
- 43:30Speaker 1: As Mike Lowry?
- 43:31Speaker 2: As Mike Lowry. You know what? So, do you?
- 43:48Speaker 1: Okay, so Melissa Ford just came in. I wish we
- 43:50Speaker 1: had the mic queued up.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Can we bring her in? Is the mic ready? Let's
- 43:57Speaker 1: bring in Melissa Ford.
- 43:58Speaker 2: Melissa Ford going to come in.
- 44:01Speaker 1: The thing about David Fincher is, man, can you see
- 44:04Speaker 1: David Fincher directing Men in Black 3 is what we
- 44:08Speaker 1: really need to talk about.
- 44:09Speaker 3: See, these movies ain't obscure enough. Bad Boys is too
- 44:13Speaker 3: Hollywood popcorn.
- 44:15Speaker 1: Come on in, Melissa Ford. I'm ready. I'm ready.
- 44:18Speaker 4: I know where this conversation came from. I know where
- 44:22Speaker 4: it came from. It came from an Instagram post, right?
- 44:24Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 44:25Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:26Speaker 4: Yeah. It came from the Instagram post where people were like,
- 44:29Speaker 4: you know, Will Smith or Denzel Washington, like, who's the
- 44:33Speaker 4: better actor kind of thing.
- 44:34Speaker 2: They were like, could they.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Exchange roles?
- 44:37Speaker 2: Internally, could they exchange roles? Because they started making those posters.
- 44:40Speaker 1: They be trying to act like Will can't act.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Yeah, they be trying to do that. I disagree.
- 44:46Speaker 1: I do, too. Will do his job better. Well and often. Yeah.
- 44:51Speaker 1: There's a reason he is who he is.
- 44:54Speaker 2: But Denzel is just.
- 44:56Speaker 1: Denzel. He's the torchbearer.
- 44:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:59Speaker 1: He's our generation's Sidney Poitier.
- 45:01Speaker 2: He's a standard.
- 45:02Speaker 1: He's a standard.
- 45:03Speaker 4: There's other things that just aren't even being considered here. Okay,
- 45:06Speaker 4: first of all, Denzel is. I'm talking without a mic.
- 45:11Speaker 1: No, you're good, you're good.
- 45:12Speaker 4: I'm such an amateur.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Denzel, he's trained.
- 45:18Speaker 4: You know, like, he is, like, academically trained.
- 45:21Speaker 1: Right.
- 45:21Speaker 4: Didn't he go to fucking Yale or something?
- 45:23Speaker 2: Yeah, he was.
- 45:24Speaker 4: Yeah, some upper echelon school for acting. So he has, like,
- 45:29Speaker 4: he has actual training. So with Will, Will is kind
- 45:33Speaker 4: of like.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Sit down, Tone.
- 45:34Speaker 4: For me, Will takes... greater risks than Denzel does.
- 45:39Speaker 1: That is a good point.
- 45:41Speaker 2: I didn't even think about the risk taker.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Yeah. That is a good point. Denzel ain't never trying
- 45:47Speaker 1: Wild Wild West ever in the history of ever, never, never, never.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Oh, Virtuosity? He doesn't.
- 45:51Speaker 1: That ain't Wild Wild West, Tone.
- 45:54Speaker 2: But I mean, it's risky.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Oh, risk-wise.
- 45:56Speaker 2: I'm talking risk.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Well, Virtuosity was like a serious movie, though.
- 46:00Speaker 2: But it was, come on, it was.
- 46:01Speaker 1: I mean, it turned out to be a bad movie.
- 46:03Speaker 2: That's what happened with Wild Wild West.
- 46:06Speaker 1: You know what, I don't believe they were ever trying
- 46:07Speaker 1: to make a really good movie with Wild Wild.
- 46:09Speaker 3: But they were trying to make a big popcorn summer blockbuster.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Okay, let's go back.
- 46:14Speaker 4: And then that didn't work?
- 46:15Speaker 1: It didn't work.
- 46:16Speaker 2: Can Melissa be... I mean, it still made it 100 million, though.
- 46:19Speaker 2: I just put.
- 46:21Speaker 1: All right, where.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Are we at? We were talking about bad boys.
- 46:27Speaker 1: Can Denzel play Mike Lowry, Melissa Ford?
- 46:30Speaker 4: Yeah, he can, because Denzel has proven to be... Hold on,
- 46:34Speaker 4: not right now.
- 46:35Speaker 2: No, no.
- 46:36Speaker 1: OK. So back in the day. In any time in
- 46:38Speaker 1: his career, they brought the bad boys group.
- 46:40Speaker 4: Because Denzel, he gave us Much Ado About Nothing, which
- 46:44Speaker 4: is a little bit more outside the lines that he
- 46:47Speaker 4: usually colors. But he gave us Mo' Better Blues. I mean,
- 46:50Speaker 4: Denzel was slick and shiny and sexy and suave and charismatic.
- 46:56Speaker 4: and all the things that Mike Lowry was. So he
- 46:59Speaker 4: could definitely, at that time, do that character. That would
- 47:03Speaker 4: have literally been like a fucking walk in the park
- 47:05Speaker 4: for Denzel.
- 47:05Speaker 1: You know what I think it is? I do agree
- 47:07Speaker 1: with everything you said.
- 47:08Speaker 4: The role itself, but if you're considering the role opposite
- 47:12Speaker 4: a comedian like Martin, then there's a difference there. That's
- 47:16Speaker 4: another layer that needs to be considered.
- 47:19Speaker 1: Well, that's not even what I was going to say,
- 47:20Speaker 1: but I do agree with that.
- 47:21Speaker 2: OK.
- 47:22Speaker 1: Will, as an action hero, because of his stature, Denzel
- 47:29Speaker 1: is an action person and Will is an action person
- 47:31Speaker 1: are very different action people.
- 47:32Speaker 4: Well, they had different motivations.
- 47:35Speaker 1: Say more.
- 47:36Speaker 4: Will Smith was, you know, he was on First Prince
- 47:39Speaker 4: of Bel-Air. And then after that, he had like significant
- 47:44Speaker 4: financial troubles, right?
- 47:45Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 47:46Speaker 2: He got tax troubles.
- 47:46Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly. So he was, you know, where some people
- 47:49Speaker 4: would have considered, you know, like he might have been
- 47:51Speaker 4: heading towards hitting rock bottom. And then, you know, he
- 47:54Speaker 4: pulled it all together and whatnot. But with his management
- 47:57Speaker 4: team or agent or whatever, he decided... I want to
- 48:00Speaker 4: be the biggest movie star in the world. Denzel has
- 48:05Speaker 4: never tried to be a movie star because at the
- 48:07Speaker 4: end of the day, he is an actor, a theatrically
- 48:11Speaker 4: trained actor who became a massive movie star.
- 48:15Speaker 1: You know what? This is the point I make about
- 48:17Speaker 1: Kevin Hart all the time. Kevin Hart's goal is to
- 48:21Speaker 1: be a comedic rock star, and he chooses his movies
- 48:24Speaker 1: and his stand-up is reflective of what his goal is. Versus, say...
- 48:30Speaker 1: Dave Chappelle, you know, like their approaches are different because
- 48:34Speaker 1: their goals are different. For sure. And I think that
- 48:37Speaker 1: is why Will does a Men in Black and Denzel
- 48:41Speaker 1: might not do that. He does a Hitch and Denzel
- 48:44Speaker 1: might not do that. And why Denzel does Macbeth, you know,
- 48:48Speaker 1: and Will might not do that because their goals as
- 48:51Speaker 1: people are different and that's reflective in the movie choices
- 48:54Speaker 1: they make. My goal is to make much fun stuff
- 48:56Speaker 1: with my friends.
- 48:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:57Speaker 1: So I would be like, Macbeth, there's no room for Tony.
- 49:00Speaker 4: I mean, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Because
- 49:03Speaker 4: there's always a way to kind of like remix what's
- 49:06Speaker 4: going on on stage. I mean, sometimes, there's a play
- 49:09Speaker 4: right now in New York called, I believe it's called
- 49:12Speaker 4: Just Juliet, and it reimagines what happens if Juliet does
- 49:17Speaker 4: not kill herself after finding, you know, after Romeo dies.
- 49:20Speaker 4: It's like, okay, well, what does this girl's life actually
- 49:22Speaker 4: looks like? And it's lit. She just is like, oh shit,
- 49:25Speaker 4: that was a moment.
- 49:26Speaker 1: You know what I mean? I was tripping, y'all.
- 49:28Speaker 2: I was tripping, y'all.
- 49:29Speaker 1: I was digmatizing, that's all it was. He was toxic, y'all.
- 49:32Speaker 4: Exactly, so, you know, there's always a way to reimagine
- 49:36Speaker 4: a classic. Like, he just did Othello, right? with Jake
- 49:41Speaker 4: Gyllenhaal on Broadway, and it was reimagined in a way
- 49:47Speaker 4: where it was more modern times, and the language was also,
- 49:52Speaker 4: not necessarily the language, it was Shakespearean language, but the
- 49:57Speaker 4: gesticulation that people use.
- 50:00Speaker 2: Oh, hold on now.
- 50:01Speaker 1: You just throw that in there, Melissa Ford.
- 50:02Speaker 2: Let me Google this.
- 50:03Speaker 1: I don't even know. Context clues didn't help me. Gesticulation?
- 50:07Speaker 2: Testicular, what'd you say? What was that you said?
- 50:10Speaker 1: I don't let nobody say no words in front of
- 50:12Speaker 1: me that I don't know.
- 50:13Speaker 4: Basically, just like the way that they, the nonverbal ways
- 50:17Speaker 4: in which they interacted with each other was very modern.
- 50:23Speaker 4: You might slap somebody with a glove in Shakespearean times.
- 50:26Speaker 4: That was not what happened during this period.
- 50:29Speaker 1: The stipulation is different.
- 50:30Speaker 3: As long as they wasn't talking about Shakespeare talk. I
- 50:33Speaker 3: do not like Shakespeare talk.
- 50:34Speaker 2: They were, weren't they?
- 50:35Speaker 1: No, it was.
- 50:36Speaker 2: It was Shakespearean. Artists don't die thus. I can't stand
- 50:39Speaker 2: that shit, though.
- 50:40Speaker 4: Yes, it was the Shakespearean play. Yes, it was the
- 50:43Speaker 4: Shakespearean play.
- 50:44Speaker 1: Okay, so you do buy Will. I mean, you buy
- 50:46Speaker 1: Denzel as Mike Lowry.
- 50:47Speaker 4: Yeah, but because of that of the layer, I don't
- 50:50Speaker 4: see him taking that role.
- 50:51Speaker 2: Well, that ain't part of it.
- 50:54Speaker 1: You ain't his agent. Can you see the role?
- 50:56Speaker 4: I'm sorry, yes. I can see him taking the role,
- 50:59Speaker 4: and I can see him excelling at that role. Absolutely.
- 51:03Speaker 1: And I think the other thing is women loved Will Smith.
- 51:06Speaker 2: He's handsome.
- 51:07Speaker 1: He's dressed well. I don't think you lose any of that.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Yeah, you still got it with Denzel.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Women love Denzel. There's a lot of niggas running around
- 51:13Speaker 1: named Denzel because of how much black women love Denzel Lee.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Our homie Denzel is named Denzel because of Denzel. His
- 51:20Speaker 1: mom was like, you know what? I love you so much.
- 51:22Speaker 1: This one mine.
- 51:23Speaker 2: Denzel. All right. I can see him in there, too.
- 51:27Speaker 1: Okay, you're up, Tom.
- 51:29Speaker 2: Okay. Could you see Denzel in... Hold on. Hold on.
- 51:43Speaker 2: Could you see.
- 51:46Speaker 2: Why is this clicked off? Okay. Could you see Denzel?
- 51:54Speaker 4: Are you going to say Seven Pounds?
- 51:57Speaker 2: No, Seven Pounds.
- 51:58Speaker 4: You hated that movie?
- 52:00Speaker 2: Seven Pounds is easy. That's easy, Denzel.
- 52:03Speaker 4: Actually, you know what?
- 52:04Speaker 1: I was so disappointed.
- 52:05Speaker 4: Hold on one second here. Put a pin in that. Okay.
- 52:09Speaker 4: That's not necessarily easy, actually.
- 52:11Speaker 2: No, it's an easy Denzel role.
- 52:12Speaker 4: No, I don't agree.
- 52:13Speaker 2: Why not?
- 52:15Speaker 4: Because.
- 52:16Speaker 2: Well, let's do seven pounds then.
- 52:18Speaker 1: Do seven pounds.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Seven pounds.
- 52:19Speaker 4: But I do want to know where you were going
- 52:21Speaker 4: to go. But sorry to like Bogart the whole situation.
- 52:24Speaker 2: You Bogart.
- 52:25Speaker 1: You Bogart McGee, gesticulation.
- 52:29Speaker 4: Because... Because it's... automatically assume that that role would be
- 52:34Speaker 4: easy for Denzel to do, that's where I think it's
- 52:38Speaker 4: not necessarily that easy. Because in that role, if you
- 52:42Speaker 4: have not seen Seven Pounds, don't listen to this motherfucker.
- 52:45Speaker 4: It's amazing.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Go watch it. Amazing?
- 52:47Speaker 4: Have a box of clean... Listen, I like to cry. Like,
- 52:50Speaker 4: he likes to have, like, he likes the big dots.
- 52:52Speaker 2: I like to cry, too.
- 52:53Speaker 4: You like to cry?
- 52:54Speaker 2: I cry all the time. Do you know how you
- 52:56Speaker 2: think it's amazing? I... Amazing is lost.
- 53:00Speaker 1: I thought it was borderline forgettable.
- 53:03Speaker 2: No. Seven pounds don't move me. Seven pounds was good, though.
- 53:06Speaker 4: First of all, first of all.
- 53:07Speaker 2: It was good, but it ain't like... She overhyping it.
- 53:09Speaker 1: It's just gesticulation.
- 53:10Speaker 4: It's a really beautiful movie, okay?
- 53:13Speaker 1: I really.
- 53:13Speaker 2: It does have some beauty, too.
- 53:14Speaker 4: It does have a lot of beauty.
- 53:15Speaker 1: It's collateral.
- 53:16Speaker 4: You know, it's... Beautiful. Okay, anyways, so I say this
- 53:19Speaker 4: to say that I feel like Will was, Will kind
- 53:24Speaker 4: of like gives off a sense of vulnerability that Denzel can't.
- 53:31Speaker 4: Because Denzel's him, and he's always him. In every role,
- 53:35Speaker 4: he's him.
- 53:35Speaker 1: But see, but we was just talking about this before
- 53:37Speaker 1: you pulled in Ford Torres. John Q. Denzel is so
- 53:42Speaker 1: vulnerable as John Q.
- 53:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:44Speaker 1: You feel like he is losing something. There is a fear.
- 53:48Speaker 2: For sure.
- 53:49Speaker 1: There is a desperation. There's trepidation. He was scared. I
- 53:53Speaker 1: get it. The Russian roulette scene, he was, he knew
- 53:56Speaker 1: what he was trying to do, but then when it happened,
- 53:58Speaker 1: he was like, whew. Like, there was all that that
- 54:02Speaker 1: Denzel hadn't shown to me prior to John Q.
- 54:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 54:04Speaker 1: That I feel like that's his calling card for vulnerability.
- 54:07Speaker 4: Yeah, but Will's vulnerability in Seven Pounds is a level
- 54:12Speaker 4: of devastation that I've never seen portrayed by Denzel in
- 54:18Speaker 4: any role.
- 54:19Speaker 2: You know, it's like it's John Q. He was devastated.
- 54:21Speaker 4: No, I know that. But there still was like the
- 54:24Speaker 4: steel core of strength running through that man, because at
- 54:27Speaker 4: the end of the day, like.
- 54:29Speaker 2: He had to take a hostage situation.
- 54:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 54:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:31Speaker 4: Like there's still there's still control in the act.
- 54:35Speaker 1: I give you that. We will.
- 54:37Speaker 4: That's the vulnerability. I don't think that Denzel has or
- 54:41Speaker 4: or can do because I just don't think it's just
- 54:43Speaker 4: a part of him.
- 54:45Speaker 2: I think he has it.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 54:47Speaker 2: Listen, I could be surprised.
- 54:49Speaker 3: If you watch Out of Time, he was desperate throughout
- 54:53Speaker 3: that whole film. He was scared shitless and you saw it.
- 54:57Speaker 3: Because that whole movie, he was trying to cover his tracks,
- 55:00Speaker 3: keep the law of his ass cheap. Because he was
- 55:04Speaker 3: looking guilty. So that was one of the first times
- 55:07Speaker 3: you would see Denzel long term just be like out
- 55:11Speaker 3: of his depth. You would get glimpses of that too
- 55:14Speaker 3: in flight. But like, Out of time, though.
- 55:17Speaker 1: That's a good one, too.
- 55:18Speaker 2: Out of time, he was just like, yo, I don't
- 55:21Speaker 2: know how I'm going to.
- 55:22Speaker 1: Get out of this shit. I'm guilty.
- 55:23Speaker 2: I'm on the balcony. I'm hanging. It was just all
- 55:25Speaker 2: kind of stuff. He never looked like he was in
- 55:27Speaker 2: control in that movie.
- 55:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree.
- 55:30Speaker 4: Okay. I don't agree, but okay. I don't agree. I
- 55:34Speaker 4: think that that's where Will has something that is very
- 55:37Speaker 4: different than Denzel's.
- 55:39Speaker 1: So you say no Denzel and seven pounds?
- 55:41Speaker 2: Nope. I say yes. I say yeah. But Will Smith
- 55:45Speaker 2: does have a softer... For sure. He has a softer
- 55:49Speaker 2: vibe to him.
- 55:50Speaker 4: It's a softer vibe, but there's also a hint of inquisitiveness.
- 55:56Speaker 4: And Denzel is so self-assured. You know what I mean?
- 55:59Speaker 4: So it's like, I look at Denzel... Listen, to be
- 56:02Speaker 4: completely honest, there was a point in time in which
- 56:05Speaker 4: I thought that I had seen everything that Denzel could do.
- 56:08Speaker 4: He had been... jumped the shark to a certain extent
- 56:12Speaker 4: for me. I was just like, he is Denzel in
- 56:14Speaker 4: every single role.
- 56:15Speaker 1: You know, the same gesticulation, you know, the same tics.
- 56:21Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 56:23Speaker 4: And so then Fences came to Broadway and I was like, oh, okay,
- 56:30Speaker 4: I take that back.
- 56:31Speaker 1: You saw Denzel, Fences?
- 56:32Speaker 4: I saw Denzel, Viola Davis, and James Earl Jones on Broadway, Fences.
- 56:36Speaker 1: Wait, James Earl Jones?
- 56:37Speaker 2: James Earl Jones was in the play? With them?
- 56:41Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure, yeah. Who do you know?
- 56:44Speaker 1: He could have been.
- 56:44Speaker 4: This was 16 years ago. Let's Google this. Can we Google?
- 56:47Speaker 1: Who did they play? Did they play the same role? No.
- 56:50Speaker 1: James Earl Jones originally played him. That's what I'm saying.
- 56:52Speaker 1: They both played Troy.
- 56:54Speaker 2: Yeah, they both played Troy.
- 56:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 56:56Speaker 1: OK.
- 56:56Speaker 2: Oh, James Earl Jones. He played Troy years ago for Fences.
- 56:59Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 57:00Speaker 4: We're trying to find out. James Earl Jones. So when
- 57:03Speaker 4: Fences was on Broadway in New York in 2010, 2011,
- 57:07Speaker 4: something like that. It was Viola Davis, Denzel, and I'm
- 57:11Speaker 4: positive it was James Earl Jones.
- 57:13Speaker 1: James Earl Jones was the guy, Stephen Henderson?
- 57:15Speaker 2: He must have been his friend.
- 57:16Speaker 1: Stephen Henderson's character?
- 57:17Speaker 4: Yes, if I'm not mistaken. But I might be. I'm
- 57:22Speaker 4: OK to be correct. It was 16 years ago.
- 57:24Speaker 2: He could have been.
- 57:29Speaker 1: That was with Courtney B. Vance, though, right? Yeah, that's
- 57:35Speaker 1: Courtney B. Vance.
- 57:36Speaker 2: Did he come back?
- 57:37Speaker 4: Yeah, no, but when Viola Davis and Denzel were on Broadway,
- 57:40Speaker 4: who was- In 2011? In 2011.
- 57:43Speaker 1: I didn't know they did that.
- 57:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 57:44Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 57:44Speaker 1: Did you know, Tone? What? I didn't know they did
- 57:46Speaker 1: it on Broadway, too.
- 57:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I did.
- 57:48Speaker 4: Well, that's how it's- And Lois Fishburne did it, too. Well,
- 57:51Speaker 4: here's the thing. Denzel Washington, as far as I know,
- 57:55Speaker 4: somebody will correct me if I'm mistaken, but I do
- 57:58Speaker 4: believe that he purchased the rights to all of August
- 58:03Speaker 4: Wilson's plays.
- 58:04Speaker 2: He did?
- 58:05Speaker 1: Yes.
- 58:06Speaker 2: Oh, I think I've heard that.
- 58:06Speaker 4: And they started with Fences. So Fences went from Broadway
- 58:09Speaker 4: to a movie. That was very intentional. And so what
- 58:13Speaker 4: was the movie just recently with his son?
- 58:17Speaker 2: Oh, I know what you're talking about.
- 58:18Speaker 4: The red piano.
- 58:20Speaker 2: Yeah, the piano. It's something to piano.
- 58:22Speaker 1: Oh, no, no, I'm wrong.
- 58:23Speaker 2: With John David Washington, Sam Jackson. I watched that joke.
- 58:27Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
- 58:28Speaker 2: Something to piano. I'm sure the Chatsworth movie. What was
- 58:30Speaker 2: that piano movie, Chatsworth? It's called The Piano.
- 58:33Speaker 1: Yeah, there we go.
- 58:34Speaker 2: Okay.
- 58:35Speaker 4: I didn't know that.
- 58:36Speaker 2: That's great.
- 58:37Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So Joe Turner's Come and Gone was
- 58:40Speaker 4: just on Broadway as well. If it's not still there,
- 58:42Speaker 4: I can't remember. Really wanted to see that. Taraji's in it.
- 58:46Speaker 2: Oh, with Cedric? Mm-hmm. OK, gotcha, gotcha. Mm-hmm.
- 58:50Speaker 4: Did we figure it out?
- 58:51Speaker 1: What was the final question?
- 58:56Speaker 2: Oh, was James Earl Jones in the 2011 live? OK,
- 58:58Speaker 2: hold on. OK.
- 58:58Speaker 1: Let me see.
- 58:59Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't see who he would be, though. His
- 59:08Speaker 2: friend from work?
- 59:12Speaker 3: Nope.
- 59:12Speaker 2: Melissa Ford would be lying, man.
- 59:14Speaker 1: Hold on.
- 59:15Speaker 2: Let's talk about that.
- 59:16Speaker 1: Testiculation, man.
- 59:17Speaker 2: Testiculation. Testicular.
- 59:20Speaker 4: Who is the cast?
- 59:21Speaker 1: Am I doing Will movies or I'm doing Denzel movies?
- 59:23Speaker 2: You said what?
- 59:23Speaker 1: Am I doing the Will movies or I'm doing the
- 59:25Speaker 1: Denzel movies?
- 59:25Speaker 2: You've been doing Denzel.
- 59:26Speaker 1: Denzel?
- 59:26Speaker 2: We've just been going back and forth. Okay, cool.
- 59:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, then I got my next one after you
- 59:30Speaker 1: find out if you're wrong or right.
- 59:31Speaker 2: What it is.
- 59:32Speaker 1: Kat said no.
- 59:34Speaker 2: James Earl Jones wasn't in there.
- 59:35Speaker 1: He was too old. He could have been the baby.
- 59:38Speaker 4: This is driving me crazy.
- 59:39Speaker 2: Come on now, Google.
- 59:40Speaker 4: Just give me the thing.
- 59:42Speaker 2: Okay.
- 59:42Speaker 3: There's going to be a picture of James Earl Jones
- 59:45Speaker 3: on stage.
- 59:46Speaker 2: And in the background, you're going to see her sitting
- 59:48Speaker 2: in the audience. I told you.
- 59:50Speaker 4: Who was in Fences on Broadway with Viola Davis and
- 59:53Speaker 4: Denzel Washington?
- 59:55Speaker 1: Listen for it.
- 59:56Speaker 2: Why are you looking it up? All right, what's the
- 59:58Speaker 2: next one?
- 59:58Speaker 1: The next one, I'd be really curious what y'all see.
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: Okay, you know what? I was wrong.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: We know. We know.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: We should have told you that.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: We've been telling you the last three minutes.
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: You was wrong.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: He just Googled what you're Googling.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: She had to see what it was.
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: I am ashamed.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: We told you ten times.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: We told you ten times.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: They both would have been Troy.
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: Who was the bestie? Who was his best friend?
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: Oh, I can't remember his name.
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: Corey Jim Jones.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: Corey Hardwick?
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: No, no, the names of the characters.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: Oh, oh.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: Okay. It was Steven Henderson, right? Okay.
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: I am so upset with myself right now. Of Ken,
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: it was 16 years ago. And honestly, it's Denzel and
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: it's Viola. So it's hard to see anybody else.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: I'm trying to tell you, man.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: You put your dude James Earl Jones in there, man.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: It wasn't like you just threw in a random actor.
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: I'm mixing up another play then, OK? Listen, OK, honey?
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: I go to Broadway a lot, OK? So sometimes the.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: Shit over there.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: It's James Earl Jones, though. It's not not the script,
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: hot working actor. It's James Earl.
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: I do have to shout out, Russell Hornsby was in
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: that production, and so was Micheletti Williamson, who I'm obsessed with.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: I got that.
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: No, we know that.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: Oh, they were both in the movie.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: All right, here we go. Here we go. Yeah. Can
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: Denzel play the genie in the live action Aladdin?
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: Absolutely not.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: No.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: And we don't want him to. Absolutely not.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: No, we don't. I can't see that at all.
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: We don't want to see that.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: He don't do silly. Yeah. No, he doesn't.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: I can't see it at all.
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: The genie is silly. Yeah. And Denzel wouldn't have been
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: the different life. Man, the genie's kind of mean and scary, y'all.
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: No, he's serious business.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Ain't no wishes. I guarantee it.
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: He came out. What are you asking me for? Why
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: are you rubbing the lamp so hard? Let me show
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: you how to rub the lamp properly. You know what
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: I'm saying? No, I can't see him in that at all.
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: You know who did play a good genie was Idris
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: Elba in 3000 Years of Longing.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: I don't even know what that is.
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: Wow, cricket, cricket, chirp, chirp.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: Big cricket.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Melissa Ford going to watch the movie.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: Here you go again, man.
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: Melissa always got a movie two people have seen.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: If the movie did $ 73 at the box office, Melissa
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: Ford was like, I was there in the front, bro.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: I know the director and producer.
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: Our group chat is called Melissa Ford's Obscure Pics. What
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: about under her skin?
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: Y'all got no clue.
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: The movie she wanted us to watch for the episode
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: later today, subtitled Spanish flick.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: I was like, man, I'm going to take it to
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: the group chat.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: Tony was like, Melissa Ford, pick a movie seven people
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: have seen. I'm so sorry.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: The audience is going to be like, man, what the hell?
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: All right, you're up, Tom.
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: Okay, so we did Aladdin, so I'm going to do
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: a Denzel joint. All right. All right, let's see. Could
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: Will Smith be in Philadelphia?
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: I don't think there's anything that Denzel did that.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: Will couldn't do.
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: He was bigoted. And so I don't know. Are we
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: considering choice here?
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: What do you mean choice?
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: Like in terms of would they actually?
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: No. No, we're not worried about that. We already told you.
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: We're just doing a swap.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: I'm sorry.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: Okay. We're not an agency.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: Um, yeah, I don't. Where's the WME, man? Watch out.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: See, at that time in their career, it wouldn't have, nah, man.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: Can you go and watch a video?
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: Is it good?
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: I think, I think Will could do it. I don't
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: think he would have been as good as Denzel because
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: there's certain aspects to the characters that they play that,
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: I just don't think that they like overlap, you know?
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: And that's it.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't, there's nothing about that movie specifically that
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: I think Will, it's not Denzel, I agree, but I
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: don't think we like, oh, I don't want to watch this.
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: And it's so much different that I don't enjoy it.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: You know, I feel like Will, he would do his
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: thing in that. You know what I mean? That was
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: a kind of like a, I don't want to say
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: muted performance, but like they were both kind of like,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: you know, like, I guess muted is the thing. It
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: was kind of like a very somber movie. So I
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: think Will could, you know.
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: And even keeled.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: Even keeled.
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: There's not a whole lot of undulation.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: There's not, yeah.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: All right, Scrabble McGee. Come on.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: You up words with friends.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: Man, I got to get the sores going.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: All right, jumping jaws. All right, next one. Could you
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: see Denzel in iRobot? Yes. I think so.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: That's one of the easy word.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: I think that might be. I think that one might be.
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: That's virtuosity.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: There I say.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: It's virtuosity. It already happened. Denzel had a robotic arm
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: in virtuosity. It's the same movie.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: The Will Smith running is the only thing. We'll be
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: looking like an action star.
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: Yeah, he sure does.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: Yeah, he sure does. He just comes off. You got
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: to have a good run. Sterling K. Brown had a
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: great run. Aaron Pierre, that's Mufasa, had a great run
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: in Lantern.
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: Denzel has a great walk.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: Oh, his walk is legendary.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: Have we ever seen him run in a movie?
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: Ricochet. I need you to watch Ricochet. You just told
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: me today. He was running in his drawers in that movie. Ricochet,
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: he runs out the house in a robe and his drawers,
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: no shirt on.
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: I remember that.
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: This L can run.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: Hold on a second. Ricochet was like 1996. That was 92. Okay,
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: even more. That was like 33 years ago.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: But I'm just saying, we're not worried about time.
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: We're not doing that.
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: Okay. I mean, Will Smith could probably still do that
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: sexy ass I Am Legend run, you know, or the
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: Enemy of the State run.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: But he's not 70.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: No, no, he's that age. In this world, he's that age. Okay.
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: Because they had him running in the later Bad Boys joint.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: They had him running again.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: Will still has a good run. Tom Cruise has a
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: good movie run, too.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: Oh, Tom Cruise has an epic run.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: Even though he's small.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: He's fast.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: Yeah, he is. His hair be going crazy, though. I
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: want him to get a haircut. I don't like long hair.
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: He ran with the short haircut in the firm.
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: He did. Booking. I love The Firm.
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: He was booking. That was a good movie.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: We need to do this with Robert De Niro and
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: Al Pacino.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: We do. Let's do it.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: Let's do it.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Next up.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: Those are the main comparisons that people always do. Those two. Okay.
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: We're on Denzel. Okay. Could Denzel be in Shark Tale?
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: The Voice?
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: The Voice. Will Smith as The Voice. What's his name, Oscar?
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: I've never seen Shark Tale. You ain't? But I'm just as, nah.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: I used to work at the daycare when Shark Tale
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: came out. I've seen Shark Tale seven million times.
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: No.
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: Them kids were like, man, Shark Tale. I was like,
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: my nose is bleeding, y'all. Man, Shark Tale.
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: Was Will, was it a big character? It was a
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: big character. It was big fun. No Denzel.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: I don't see it. I don't see it. I like
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: how Martin Scorsese was in, was he in Finding Nemo?
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: He was in something. He played the voice. No, maybe
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: he was in Shark Tale.
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: No, Robert De Niro was in Shark Tale.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Okay, so I'm thinking Martin Scorsese was in something. He
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: was the voice in something. I'm blanking.
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: He might have been. But I know Robert De Niro was.
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: At Shark in Shark Tale. So y'all ain't buying.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: Nope. No, I can't. I can't hear it. No.
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: I mean, I'm just have this visual of like Denzel.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: He was the puffer fish in Shark Tale.
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: Oh, he wasn't there.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: He wasn't there.
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: Okay. I thought I was tripping.
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: I just have this image of like Denzel, you know,
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: like in a studio doing ADR being like, oh my God.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: Nah, I can't see it.
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: I can't see it.
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: I can't see it.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: Hey man, turn the, cut the mic, turn the lights
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: off y'all. This ain't.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: I can't see it. Hey Denzel, I love you man.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: Get the hell on brother.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: Tone you up.
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: All right, let's do, am I doing a Denzel pick? Mm-hmm. Okay.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: Let's do, could you see Will Smith in Devil in.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: The Blue Dress? Man, I love that movie.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: I love that movie. That's a really good movie. That's
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: top five Denzel for me, personally. Personally.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: Man, that. It's such a Denzel movie. It's really hard
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: to even think of it. That is a quintessential Denzel.
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: And that was another movie where he wasn't in control
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: of everything.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: No, he wasn't.
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: He was desperate. He was up against the racist police.
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: He was up against the racist gangsters. He was out
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: of his element. But he was just trying to just,
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: you know, he got laid off. Trying to keep my house.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: I'm going to do this private eye thing and find
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: this white woman.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: You were right. He wasn't Denzel at his maximum powers. No.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: It wasn't the Denzel we'd be like, oh, that's Denzel.
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: He needed Miles' help.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: He needed Miles.
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: To come in there and gangster the shit up. Miles
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: was like, you want me to shoot this dude easy?
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: He was ready to blast anybody.
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: No.
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: I don't know. Could Will Smith be a devil in
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: a blue dress? I think, hold on. Now let's break
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: it down.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: Come on.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: It's so Denzel. It is. It is so, that's like,
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: could Kev on stage do a voiceover? Technically, yes. But like,
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: Tony Baker does voice. It's like that level of, you
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: know what I mean?
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: Could Will Smith.
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: Come in and play an ex-military guy in the 40s,
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: Los Angeles?
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: Homeowner on the.
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: GI Bill, just got laid off from his job down
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: there at the plant. And they offer him a problem. Yo,
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: you find this white woman, I'm going to give you
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: $ 100 or $ 200 or whatever. And everything keeps unraveling from there.
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: I think Denzel could, I mean, Will Smith could do
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: something like that. And you got the wild card homie
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: from back in the day. that you call for help
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: because shit is getting gangsta out here, so I need
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: somebody to watch my back.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: Nah.
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: I think if Will Smith does that role, it turns
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: into a completely different role.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: So much. This is what I was toying with. It
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: is so different. I don't even know if it's the
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: same movie. Because I think the game has to be,
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: is it a good enough movie?
- 1:10:10Speaker 4: It's not the same movie. Because you think about it, too.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: Can we actually acknowledge how the audience shows up to
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: a movie for that person? Can we acknowledge that in
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: this conversation?
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: Well, I think if these two people, that's a good point.
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: Will Smith is going to make more money.
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: Yeah, they showing up for either.
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: Yeah, but we're showing up.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: But they showing up more for Will.
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: Traditionally, yeah.
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: Box office numbers back that up. Will Smith slapping the
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: shit out of Denzel. If we talking show up, it's
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: not even close. It's not even close.
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: Well, I know that because Denzel will be more likely
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: to choose an arthouse film than Will would.
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: It's not even our house.
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: Like, Will isn't doing big movies.
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: This has been a major... I think Demi Lovato's big movies.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: Will made them big movies. You know what I mean?
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: Will was a.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: He was the most bankable for some... It was like
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: the summertime Will... Guaranteed $ 100 million.
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: Will Smith's face could sell movies in China. His only
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: rival is Tom Cruise. Globally, his face could sell movies
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: on movie posters across the globe. And as a black man,
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: as a black actor in general, that he stands in
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: a very, very tiny class. And I don't necessarily know
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: if Denzel can say the same thing he said the
- 1:11:31Speaker 4: same about Denzel.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: As far as selling tickets, people doing this?
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: We talking hard numbers?
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: Will Smith is only rivaled by Tom Cruise. That's it.
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: And Denzel has been in big pictures that should have
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: grossed like popcorn flicks. He's not just our house McGee.
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: He's been in Thames and Tide. He's been in The Siege,
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: Courage Under Fire. It's like he's been in major... Pics,
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: action movies, Man on Fire, you know what I mean?
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: Which is what we got to come to eventually. The
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: Devil in the Blue Dress didn't set the box office
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: on fire.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: No, no.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: But I loved it. I'm going to say no, Tom.
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: I'm going to say, I'm going to disagree with y'all.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: That's okay. I think Will Smith could be in there.
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: I'm going to say no.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: You said no? I said no. All right.
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: It becomes a different movie.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: Let's see. Could Denzel play Deadshot in Suicide Squad?
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: Yes. You think so?
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: Yeah. For sure. Because we've seen Denzel be an ex-con.
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: He got game. You know what I'm saying? I'm going
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: to do this for my son.
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: He was a little bit more selfish and cold, and
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: he got game than I would say Deadshot is about
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: his daughter.
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: But Deadshot is also an assassin. I've killed people. Equalizer.
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: And we know Denzel can get busy on the action tip.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: For sure.
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: So, yeah, Suicide Squad is an easy yes.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: You're up, Tom.
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: Will Smith in Man on Fire. No.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Creasy Bear? No. Yes.
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: Yeah, Melissa Ford.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: Okay, hold on. Saving a white baby?
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: Saving a white baby.
- 1:13:09Speaker 4: He's Wilson putting a bomb up a motherfucker's ass and
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: taping him to the car and then igniting.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: Is he doing that?
- 1:13:17Speaker 4: I don't see that.
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: This is what I said about training. Denzel can cut
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: into an evilness that I think is more believable when
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: Denzel does it than when Will does it. That's the thing.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: When Denzel's not playing, he's not playing more than when
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: Will's not playing, he's not playing. I think you might
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: play Will. If Denzel's crossing me, that nigga not playing
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: for real. He's bombing my butt.
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: Denzel might not.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: Be bombing my butt. I mean, Will might not be
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: bombing my butt. Denzel is. That's what I said about
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: Training Day. I think it's just that evilness. Denzel is like...
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: He got it.
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: I believe it.
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: I believe it.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: I believe it.
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: And the reason why I can see Will Smith in
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: Training Day, but I can't necessarily see him in Man
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: on Fire because Man on Fire, he's darker. He's dealing
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: with more demons. They're dealing with demons. I haven't really
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: seen Will Smith dealing with the demons yet.
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: Fair enough.
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: The only one was seven pounds, really.
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: But even then, it wasn't like... It was more of
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: a sadness. It wasn't like a.
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: It was a devastation, but it was dealing with.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: That's Will's next role.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: Man on fire.
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: He was dealing with demons of like, yo, I killed
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: people for a living. I've done some terrible things to people.
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? I've lost people. Just a
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: whole life of just killing bloodshed. No telling what he
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: was doing.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: Rough shot. Running rough shot.
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: And drinking and just hating himself until he meets this
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: little girl who.
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: Brings him back to life. So if I want to
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: see Denzel in something, it's a hard comedy. Even if
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: he's the straight guy. Robert De Niro, analyze this, meet
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: the parents, meet the fuckers. If I want to see
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: Will in something, evil, mean, demon. No redeeming qualities. No charisma.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: You are a bad person. You are rotten to your core.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: Can I see you play that? That's the thing I
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: haven't seen Will be like. Has Will ever been unlikable?
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: Fully unlikable.
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: What was that role where he was like a superhero
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: that didn't want to be Hancock?
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: I loved Hancock though.
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: I loved the first half of that movie.
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: First half was incredible. I want to kill the.
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: People who wrote the second half. I was just like,
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: this is two different movies.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: They didn't play by their own rules. No. I hate it.
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: So wasn't he a dislikable character in that?
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: He was likable when he was drunk and mean and
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: didn't care. He was super still likable. He was funny.
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: He was likable, though.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: He was really likable. What you want, boy?
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: Like when that little boy woke him up on the
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: parking lot.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: What you want, boy?
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: It was funny.
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: I felt that.
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: Will Smith has like that perma smile in his face.
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: Like, no matter where he is, like, no matter what
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: he's doing, he has, like, it almost looks like he's
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: right about to smile.
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: That's the softness I'm talking about with seven pounds.
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: Exactly. And Denzel does not have that. He has that
- 1:16:12Speaker 4: charismatic scowl, you know?
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: Denzel's not playing. You're getting a whooping. Denzel, Will might
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: forget and fall asleep. Denzel, he never forgetting that he
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: was supposed to whoop you. Yeah. He's never forgetting that
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: he was supposed to whoop you. Will might be like,
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: all right, man, you know what? Never mind. Yeah. Denzel's like,
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: you thought I forgot? Right.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: I never forgot.
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: Take them pants off.
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: I'm like, God, dog, you ain't never forgot a woman
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: my whole life.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: We was having a good time in the in-between.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: I ain't forgot. I guarantee.
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: I guarantee it. Okay, so you say.
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: What was we doing, Man on Fire?
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: Man on Fire. I still say yes. I don't know
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: if I could... I just think he's not doing... I
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: think I agree with y'all. I don't know how, I'm
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: struggling now because I don't know how different it is
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: with that part that made you feel like.
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: Are you believing like an assassin with those ears?
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: He could hear the target. I'm sorry. I just feel
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: like there's a level of coldness in Man on Fire.
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: that Denzel has, that he only really warms up for
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: the girl, even barely when he's half dead, more than
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: half dead at the end. He's hanging on by a thread.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: There's a cold calculatedness on Man on Fire that will
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: he's got an internal warmth, I think. You know what
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: I mean? That's a good way of putting it, internal warmth.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: He's just like, man, you want to introduce him to
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: your parents. And you know he could just tell you
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: that he got your daughter pregnant. And you're like, I mean,
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: how bad is he? I take this guy on as
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: a son-in-law. I feel like even if he is bad,
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: I feel like we're on the meat line.
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: I can live with this guy long term.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: He's bringing the trash cans up.
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: Denzel got your daughter pregnant? You're like, man, I don't know.
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: I got to deal with a guy because of the kid,
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: because the grandkid's so big. That could be worse. I
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: don't know if I can see Will Smith in Man
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: on Fire.
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: I'm going to stand by myself.
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: I would like to see it. I've stood alone several times.
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: Alright, so it's me.
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: Can you see Denzel in.
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: Hold on, we did this? We're running out. We're almost done.
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: Yeah, we're getting slim.
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not that much. I don't want to talk
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: about After Earth. I don't want to see anybody in that.
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: Can you see Denzel in Hancock?
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: Yes. Yeah.
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: Yeah. He actually might be unlikable.
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: What Hancock could have been, Denzel actually might be like, oh,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: this guy actually sucks, man.
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: I could see him in that.
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: He shouldn't be a superhero. He might be Homelander. Mm.
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: Homelander's a douche.
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: He is the worst.
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: He's the absolute worst.
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: Denzel could be that level. Like, man, this guy is
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: the worst person to have superpowers. Yeah. He is.
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: He's got an intensity that. Yeah. Hancock might have been
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: a better boy. Wouldn't have been as funny. No.
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: But he. The movie itself, the first half.
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: It's the storytelling.
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: If they would have followed that same story path, it
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: still would have sucked in the second half.
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: I don't care who they... They could have had Jesus
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: Christ in the role.
- 1:19:42Speaker 3: I'd be like, the second half of that Jesus movie
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: was horseshit.
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: The second half.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: Of that Jesus movie?
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: First half was brilliant.
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: Second half just.
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: Man, they fumbled that movie so bad, man.
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: This is me all, dog.
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: I was in the theaters like, all.
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: Right, man.
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: Oh, I was just like... Just cut it off. Hell no.
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: Just cut it off, man.
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: All right, we're going to do rapid fire.
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: Rapid fire.
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: Rapid fire.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: Rapid fire.
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: Real quick.
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: I'm going to just go down the Denzel run. Could
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: y'all see? Just give me a hot yes or no.
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: Okay. Because we've been doing this for a while. Crimson Tide,
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: Will Smith.
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: Yes. Yeah.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: Okay. Virtuosity.
- 1:20:20Speaker 4: For Christ's sake.
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: Sure. Courage Under Fire.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: No. I think so.
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: I'll say yes.
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: Preacher's Wife.
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: Might even be more. You might want him to smash
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: the human even more.
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: The movie would have made more money.
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: For sure. For sure.
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: Preacher's Life?
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: Fallen.
- 1:20:43Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: Oh, man. I don't know.
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: I say yes.
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: I love Fallen.
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: Fallen's great.
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: Fallen is great.
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: Time is on my side. Yes, it is.
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: Fallen is great.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: I'm going to say no.
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: Okay. The Bone Collector.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: No. No. Ooh, I wouldn't, nah. Nah.
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: Yes, but no.
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: You know what it is? It's yes, but no.
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: He can.
- 1:21:07Speaker 4: I would never want to see it.
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: Think about Will Smith in the hospital bed and the
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: Fresh Prince.
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: Give me the gun, Carlton. That's pretty much him.
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: Watch out.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: I can't see him in that either. No, no, no.
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: John Q.
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: Yes. Yeah, for sure.
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: Okay. Out of Time.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: Is that the one we were just talking about?
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: Eva Mendez. Oh, that's Deja Vu.
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Then he smashed.
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: So wait a minute, Cam.
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: When I was talking about Out of Time at length
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: 20 minutes ago, you had no clue what I.
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: Was talking about. I knew, I knew. Because you act like,
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: I just brought this up.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: Out of thin air right now.
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: So the whole time you was just listening.
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: I think I thought I was talking about Deja Vu.
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: I always get those two confused.
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: Deja Vu has Paul in it.
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: And Out of Time has Has even been dead.
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: Yeah, and Sanat. And Sanat lived it.
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: That whole time I was talking about Undertale, you was
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: out of here.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: Man, that's a lot of movies. I was out of time.
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: Watch out, man.
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: I was out of time.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: Inside Man.
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah. Deja Vu.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Didn't tell me to make a better detective, though,
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: but yeah. Okay.
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: Flight. Flight.
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: I'm drunk right now. I'm drunk right now. Nope.
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: No. Man, that's such a....
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: This Zell got some good ass movies, though.
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: He was sweaty in there.
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: He was.
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: He was sweaty in there.
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: He was going through it. He was great in flight.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: He was great. Yeah.
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: I say no.
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: I'll say no. I say no.
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: I think it's too different of a movie.
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: Okay. And then I'm just going to end it with,
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: because we can just go on for hours. All right.
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: The Equalizer franchise.
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Although there's a version that Denzel makes
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: it much better. Yeah. All right, here we go. Rapid
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: Fire Will Smith movies. Can you see Denzel in.
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: Concussion? Yes.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: Focus?
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: Yes. Yes. Emancipation? Yes.
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: Yes. Gemini Man?
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:23:16Speaker 4: I don't know that movie.
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: That's the one where he had played an assassin. It
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: was like a. time travel thing. He was fighting his
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: younger self. Oh, yeah. I didn't like that movie at all.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: Looper was better with that same concept. Yeah, Looper is
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: the better one. I think it needs to be a
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: different person. Legend of Bagger Vance. Yes.
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: No.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: No? Collateral Beauty.
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: Yeah. Bright. I fucking hated it. Oh, my God.
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: I hated it.
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: I can see him in it, though.
- 1:23:52Speaker 4: I can't even say, because I refuse to watch more
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: than five minutes.
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: Of that shit.
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: I hated that movie.
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: Oh, I fucking hated it.
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: I can see. I didn't like that movie, but I
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: can see.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: Him in it. Before it going off.
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: It made me so angry.
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: I did not like that movie.
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: It wasn't good.
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: Wild, Wild West. No.
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: No.
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: The Rapid Fire. No.
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: Given the tone of it, no.
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: No. All right, we're done.
