- 0:06Life. A place where faith speaks, where history
- 0:10breathes, and where hope finds its voice again.
- 0:14Each episode is crafted to inspire, to strengthen,
- 0:18and to guide you on your walk with God. And now,
- 0:22to lead us through today's journey. Here is your
- 0:27host. Pastor David. Welcome to the Voices of
- 0:31Life Did You Know series, a ministry of the Church
- 0:34for Life. I'm Pastor David. Today is September
- 0:3629th and we'll be looking at three discerning
- 0:39moments in history. On September 29th, 1789,
- 0:43the first Congress of the United States passed
- 0:46an act that officially recognized the Army under
- 0:49the new Constitution. It wasn't the birth of
- 0:53a new force, it was the continuation of a promise.
- 0:56a commitment to defend liberty and to serve under
- 1:00lawful authorities. The soldiers who had fought
- 1:03under the Continental Congress were now entrusted
- 1:05to a nation that had written its principles into
- 1:08law. This moment mattered. It's said to every
- 1:11citizen, freedom requires guardians, and those
- 1:15guardians serve not for glory, but for duty.
- 1:18Think of what it means today, every uniformed
- 1:21man and woman, every family waiting at home,
- 1:24every chaplain, medic, and volunteer. They stand
- 1:27in the same tradition. They remind us that service
- 1:31is sacred. It's not just about the battlefields.
- 1:34It's about the hospitals, the disaster zones,
- 1:37the communities, where people step forward when
- 1:40others step back. For the Church for Life, this
- 1:43story connects deeply, we believe. that faith
- 1:46and citizenship are both acts of stewardship.
- 1:49To serve faithfully, whether in the military,
- 1:52in the ministry, or in daily life, is to honor
- 1:55the God who calls us to protect and to care.
- 2:00So today, we remember September 29, 1789. We
- 2:04give thanks to those who have served. We renew
- 2:07our own commitment to live with courage, discipline,
- 2:10and compassion. Now, Shifts the scenes from the
- 2:14halls of Congress to the green expanse of the
- 2:19polo grounds in New York. It's September 29,
- 2:221954, game one of the World Series. The Cleveland
- 2:26Indians are at bat. Dick Wertz sends a towering
- 2:31drive to deep center field. And then Willie Mays
- 2:36runs. He turns, looks over his shoulder. and
- 2:40makes the catch that baseball fans simply call
- 2:43the catch. It's more than a highlighted reel.
- 2:48It's a picture of focus, preparation, and grace
- 2:51under pressure. But here's the part many forget.
- 2:54Just two years earlier, Mays had been serving
- 2:58in the U .S. Army. He missed parts of two seasons
- 3:01to fulfill his duty with the country. When he
- 3:04returned, he didn't complain about the lost time.
- 3:06He trained harder. He played with joy. And on
- 3:09that September day, he gave the world a moment
- 3:12of pure excellence. That's the kind of excellence
- 3:16that grows out of discipline, service. It's the
- 3:20same spirit that drives a soldier, a teacher,
- 3:23a nurse, a pastor, anyone who gives their best
- 3:28when the pressure is high and the outcome is
- 3:31uncertain. Willie Mays reminds us that faithfulness
- 3:34isn't limited to one field. Whether you're catching
- 3:38a ball, leading a team, or helping a neighbor
- 3:42to rebuild after a storm, your focus can become
- 3:44your testimony. So when life sends a long drive
- 3:49your way, run hard. Keep your eyes on the goal
- 3:53and trust that the strength that God gives you
- 3:56is enough to make the catch. So in our last segment,
- 4:00did you know on September 29th, 1965 president
- 4:04lyndon b johnson sat at the white house rose
- 4:07garden and signed a law that would change how
- 4:09america sees creativity the national foundation
- 4:13on the arts and humanities act established two
- 4:16new institutions the national endowment for the
- 4:20arts and the national endowment for humanities
- 4:22it was a moment of recognition that art music
- 4:29Literature and history are not just luxuries
- 4:32for the few. They are expressions of human spirit.
- 4:36Johnson said that day, That vision still matters
- 4:51because creativity is how we remember, how we
- 4:54connect, and how we heal. Every song, every painting,
- 4:59Every story is a way of saying, this is who we
- 5:02are. For the Church for Life, this story is more
- 5:05than history. It is the mirror of our mission.
- 5:08We believe that creativity is ministry. When
- 5:12we write, sing, record, or tell stories, we are
- 5:15helping people find meaning. Connection and hope.
- 5:20That's so important. The Arts Humanities Act
- 5:24reminds us that faith and creativity walk hand
- 5:28in hand. Both call to see the beauty, to honor
- 5:33truth, and to share the light we've been given.
- 5:37So today, as we remember September 29th, 1965,
- 5:40we celebrate the artists, musicians, writers,
- 5:43and storytellers who help us see the world through
- 5:46grace. Because when creativity serves love, it
- 5:50becomes a form of worship. September 29th carries
- 5:54three powerful lessons today. Service builds
- 5:58character. Excellence honors gifts. And creativity
- 6:04is such an important ingredient in our lives.
- 6:08From Congress recognizing the Army to Willie
- 6:13Mays showing what focus looks like and President
- 6:17Lyndon Johnson signing into law the importance
- 6:20of arts and humanities, we find that each story
- 6:24reminds us that faithfulness in action, is the
- 6:28heartbeat of life and life well lived. I'm Pastor
- 6:33David. This is Voices of Life. Did you know?

- 6:56May the stories we share strengthen your faith,
- 6:59steady your heart, and remind you that God is
- 7:02present in every chapter of your journey. If
- 7:05this episode encouraged you, share it with someone
