- 0:18As veterans, we begin new lives when we leave our military
- 0:22service. What is faith?
- 0:25How do we incorporate faith in service and after what resources
- 0:30are available? Who do we talk with about faith?
- 0:34These are some of the many questions that one may ponder in
- 0:38searching for answers to the meaning of life.
- 0:42Join The Revivalists and let's search for some answers
- 0:45together. Luke 923 Then he said to them,
- 0:50All, Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves,
- 0:54and take up their cross daily, and follow me.
- 1:18There we go. We need to figure that one out.
- 1:23Hey, welcome to the Revivalist Radio show, folks.
- 1:28Sorry, little technical glitch. A little technical glitch on
- 1:32that one. Today is Monday, August 24th,
- 1:36the year of our Lord 2026. Where has the year gone, Daryl?
- 1:44Man, this is crazy. Boom passed us.
- 1:48Yes, I but I don't know about you.
- 1:52How are you dealing with the heat?
- 1:53Trying. To find as much cool air.
- 1:57Yeah, I had the, you know, I had the air conditioner set on 74
- 2:03and last night because it was 109° outside, it was 79 inside
- 2:11and. It was baking.
- 2:13It was warm. It was it was toasty in here.
- 2:17Yeah, I know it was toasty. I I got a lot of repairs done on
- 2:23the RV. Did some demo yesterday morning,
- 2:27'cause I don't know if you know it, guys know.
- 2:29I have two radio shows, have The Revivalist that I'm on every
- 2:33Monday, but the Pain to Purpose show is on Saturdays and I'm
- 2:38going to be at Dominion Racetrack on Saturday, September
- 2:4212th commentating on the race. This is going to be exciting.
- 2:47It's, you know, multi branch, you know, all the branches I
- 2:53think except for Space Force. See, typical.
- 3:00I'm driving across country again.
- 3:05Again, I think I'm a glutton for punishment on that one.
- 3:10I'm reaching across, sorry. Here's the notes, here's the
- 3:12notes. I told you I had notes, notes
- 3:17and I I was like, OK, I use yellow paper and I was like,
- 3:21where is it at? Where is it at?
- 3:22You can get. There, but she's going to have
- 3:25more than notes. Y'all, and then just letting you
- 3:29know. Well, we've talked about having
- 3:31several books that we've talked about writing too.
- 3:35Those, those are all going to be good.
- 3:40So Daryl, will you go ahead and lead us into prayer?
- 3:44Yep. Amen.
- 3:46Father, Son and the Holy Spirit Lord, we thank you for being our
- 3:49Father, God, Lord and Creator. Thank you for your Son Christ
- 3:52Jesus and to our Lord and Savior and the King and of our life.
- 3:56We thank you for the power and glory essence of the Holy
- 4:00Spirit. Get those words of wisdom,
- 4:02knowledge, understanding inside and discernment the only time
- 4:05for you. As soon as we enter into your
- 4:07service, thanks for expression into the Spirit to us, O Lord,
- 4:11we may be blessed and those who come alongside us, those who are
- 4:15standing in the gaps, they too Lord, will be on their mission,
- 4:19serve and service never before. We bless your name, Father, for
- 4:23you be worried and we pray. It's the love and wonderful name
- 4:26that is indeed Christ Jesus and brothers in the Holy Spirit,
- 4:29that your sons, daughters, friends and servants say Amen.
- 4:32Amen. Amen.
- 4:34Father, Son in the Holy Spirit. Amen.
- 4:37Hey, so I am rocking my Camino stuff.
- 4:41I don't know if y'all can see my shell.
- 4:43I I felt kind of called to where the Camino shells.
- 4:49I've got my earrings too. They don't quite match, but it's
- 4:52the shells. And because I, you know, Daryl,
- 4:57when as we have gone through reading the characters and
- 5:01Genesis, you know, this whole walking, walking with God
- 5:08really, really called out to me. And I, you know, I've been on
- 5:13the Camino twice. I've hiked on the Appalachian
- 5:16Trail. You know the saying, it's saying
- 5:20unlike on the Camino, it's all the way uphill to Santiago.
- 5:24Well, but you got some nasty downhills too.
- 5:28Same on the Appalachian Trail. What goes up must come down.
- 5:31And I think, you know, our this whole this, we haven't discussed
- 5:38how many recap shows we're going to do to really encapsulate what
- 5:42we've talked about in Genesis. Yeah, the whole connection on
- 5:48moral injury, healing and recovery.
- 5:51There's lots of science talk about moral injury.
- 5:55But for us, I think we've discussed the, you know, this is
- 6:00really a veteran ministry geared towards DSM 5 of moral injury,
- 6:07healing and recovery. Because if you're only ever
- 6:10talking about moral injury, then where is the solution, right?
- 6:16So when I talk to people, I'm like, you know, we have this, we
- 6:20host this show and we're putting God as the true north of the of
- 6:25our moral compass where he's supposed to be because of
- 6:29society. We have by and large, try to do
- 6:32everything absent God. So even this whole sciency side
- 6:37of things, clinical diagnosis, DSM 5 is still trying to
- 6:43annotate it in a very clinical terms minus God.
- 6:48Would you agree? I mean, I think if I'm thinking
- 6:53about digits, 1 + 1 = 2. Well, if you're you got 1 and
- 6:59you're not including God and you're still thinking that
- 7:02you're going to have two, then you've made yourself God to
- 7:06replace the big G God in order to try to get 2 because 1 + 1 =
- 7:112. But we.
- 7:13Talk about people being their own God and it just not one of
- 7:17us. We have to bend that place at
- 7:18some point. But the Lord tells us to come
- 7:20out of the city, come out of Babylon, come out of the come
- 7:24out of all those strange places. Some affiliate associate
- 7:28acquaintance cells with the ice, cause the ice will take you just
- 7:31as straight to hell as a mark to its goal.
- 7:33So I'm saying each of you, today we talk about moral injury, but
- 7:37there's a root cause of moral injury and it does not always
- 7:42show up in the DSM 5. It certainly shows up in the
- 7:45Sacred Scriptures and the historical timeline.
- 7:49But this whole walk thing was pretty critical very early on
- 7:56when we started reading Genesis. They either walked with God or
- 8:00they did it. Yes, yes, right.
- 8:03I and and. Up to the dead ark being sealed
- 8:06and shut. They, they, God, it rained it
- 8:12never. And then you got people banging
- 8:15on because here comes the waters.
- 8:16It comes to rain. And Noah says, no, I, I don't
- 8:20have the key, only God does. You can't get in.
- 8:23So there we go. And that it had to be a strange,
- 8:27terrible, horrible sight. Because remember, Noah probably
- 8:31had family members, He had friends, he had people that he
- 8:35had, he had, you know, known for hundreds of years.
- 8:37He was 600 years ready. So we, we had to understand that
- 8:41there was some moral injury there too, because you lost
- 8:43loved ones. They didn't heed the call.
- 8:46They didn't heed the cause of who who God was.
- 8:49And thus they perished. What is it, as you said, that
- 8:53here's another word I'm writing down the head that had the power
- 8:58to choose, right? It's all about the power to
- 9:02choose. And when we talk about our
- 9:06military service, you know, I, I was in Desert Storm, boots on
- 9:12the ground. And I remember distinctly going
- 9:16to Mass during war because that was who I was, right?
- 9:22I wore the very thin cross. It's a different chain.
- 9:26But this cross I've had since I was 18 years old.
- 9:31Well, I'm actually actually maybe when I was 16, it was
- 9:34Zales. Mama.
- 9:35Mama said you need to start some credit, go to Zales, get some
- 9:38blank. So I know this is what I started
- 9:45out with. My very first thing was what,
- 9:48Yeah. Was this cross.
- 9:50So, you know, this cross has been around the world with me.
- 9:55But I, I say that because it's a choice on what we do, when we do
- 10:01it, whether we're at war, whether we're not right.
- 10:05And even though we've already been, it's still a choice if we
- 10:09want to do the soul repair, because that's really what we're
- 10:14trying to do as revivalists, is repair our souls.
- 10:18And I don't care whether you served or not, but maybe you
- 10:20have some trauma in your life. You have some, you know, things
- 10:27happen in all of our lives. I don't care black, white,
- 10:32purple, male, female, whatever your sexual right there's
- 10:37probably some kind of trauma that you've endured.
- 10:43You know, there if you have lived life not in a bubble, you
- 10:49have endured some kind of trauma some way somehow, and it has
- 10:54affected you. My.
- 10:59Parents lost their younger son so very quickly.
- 11:06I am the oldest eldest living child.
- 11:10It remains from the union of my mother and my stepfather.
- 11:16My biological father is 13 or 16 of about mid 5.
- 11:21But I've met the other, and I'm not the oldest living child from
- 11:25his. But to have a child and be lost
- 11:32to you as a parent, it has to be something just so critically
- 11:36damaging to you because you're always thinking, from what I've
- 11:40been able to gather, that they're thinking, it's their
- 11:43fault. God, just to God, just to.
- 11:48What do you think about Enoch's family?
- 11:50Enoch didn't show up for the evening meal.
- 11:53God something. Yeah.
- 11:56We, we don't look at the back story of things like that,
- 11:59right? We just look at there's moral
- 12:01injury involved with that. Why is there moral injury?
- 12:05Because those people are US today.
- 12:09Nothing's changed. Nothing's changed.
- 12:11How many times have we said that?
- 12:13Reading all of Genesis? We're still the same people.
- 12:16We haven't learned anything. We're still lying.
- 12:19We're still cheating. We're still having adulterous
- 12:23affairs, still being our own gods.
- 12:28You know, little, right little DI was trying to think of what
- 12:34are some of you know, we're still going through grief.
- 12:40You know, we talked at one point.
- 12:41Daryl, do you remember the Dusty Turner story?
- 12:45That was the naval operator who's a naval seal and he he was
- 12:51wrongly incarcerated, you know, so he's going through this whole
- 12:56process of telling his story. I'm still watching what's
- 12:58happening with him. But you know, in some ways I
- 13:02still saw that parallel between him and what Joseph has gone
- 13:07through the wrongful imprisonment.
- 13:11They so. Story for everybody in.
- 13:15Scripture right, but so part it. Applies today.
- 13:20Part of what and I listen to crime podcast too.
- 13:24Oh, you do I do the so part of the the it's a grief process you
- 13:32have you're grieving the life you would have, could have,
- 13:36should have had, right. And that you get robbed of that
- 13:40opportunity. Now, I don't think Joseph put up
- 13:43the fight. We're kind of jumping ahead, but
- 13:46it's going to make sense when we get there.
- 13:48But you know, he's he's now experiencing all these people
- 13:54with their strangers. How many of us joined the
- 13:57military? And we were all with a bunch of
- 13:59strangers. We grieved our former life when
- 14:03we joined the military. And then it kind of ironic when
- 14:07we get out, we miss the camaraderie, we miss the we miss
- 14:14the culture. And then then we start clamoring
- 14:17back to where are my military friends again?
- 14:21But you have lost time, lost relationships, missed family
- 14:26events. Military people are, you know,
- 14:30especially if you were deployed anywhere, all of those same
- 14:33things happen to missed family events.
- 14:37I don't know how many people I've met where they were
- 14:39deployed, missed the birthdays, missed the birth of a child even
- 14:44right, missed their anniversary. And you have cultivating the
- 14:51relationship you're supposed to have is is difficult.
- 14:56And I want to say difficult the best, especially if you're not
- 15:01In Sync with God. Because if you're not following
- 15:05what God wants you to do in the 1st place, then you're already
- 15:09on the wrong path. You're, you know, I talk about
- 15:13the Camino for a reason. You get lost on the Camino.
- 15:17I, I don't know how you do because the signs are all there.
- 15:21We stop paying, we stop paying attention to the signs.
- 15:25And I thank God I, I don't know how many times.
- 15:28It's kind of funny. I'm driving down the road and I
- 15:32read something and then I'm hearing it almost, you know, the
- 15:37radio says the same thing. And I'm like, OK, I'm on their,
- 15:42I'm on the right path. I'm God's checking in with me.
- 15:45I'm OK. You ever had stuff like that
- 15:48happen? Absolutely.
- 15:51So you spoke of people that you lose contact with on Saturday I
- 15:56had the wonderful pleasure again.
- 15:59We did it last year in in the previous year of meeting 2 young
- 16:04men just a little younger than I am.
- 16:07Two men who served on the USS Copeland FFG 25 was me.
- 16:15What kind of what kind of ship is that it was?
- 16:19A Oliver hasn't Harry frigate, so it had a turret in the front.
- 16:27It had phalic system and you had the Gunners, Mason Gunners make
- 16:32gun and gonna make The Who would come out and and shoot if they
- 16:37needed to do so. But the gunman's mates, they
- 16:38handled all of the Armarat on the ship so that the fire
- 16:42control technicians as far as the ailing system and the
- 16:46torpedo systems and such like that, we had a torpedo movement
- 16:49on on the ship too. The point I'm making is that if
- 16:53you lose contact with someone, ordinarily they can't be found.
- 16:59They don't want to be found and you won't find them.
- 17:03But we've made a pact, the three of us, that wherever we are, if
- 17:07we can get to one another, just to have that time.
- 17:10If it's just three or four hours, that time, we always need
- 17:13the Chewy's too. I'm not giving Chewy's a plug.
- 17:16Hey, food was good. But if you find the Chewy's,
- 17:20Chewy's are delicious. We had a great time.
- 17:22We took photos, we did a wonderful thing.
- 17:24But we also know that we have more time behind us than we do
- 17:30in front. I'll be 63, Lord willing, in
- 17:34September. Then the other brother will be
- 17:3762 and the other will be 60. So we're just right.
- 17:41We served together. You know, we, we, we went to war
- 17:44together. We were in the ocean conflict.
- 17:46We went to a couple other conflicts.
- 17:48We, we were in battle groups. We were, we were in general
- 17:52quarters where, you know, in our ship, it was 180 men there.
- 17:57If our ship got hit, it probably was a wrap because it's it was
- 18:00aluminum, fiberglass perhaps. So do your very best young
- 18:05people, because if I'm talking to you, probably younger than I
- 18:09am anyway, do your very best to stay in contact with people, get
- 18:13their phone numbers, get their e-mail addresses, their
- 18:16alternate e-mail addresses, the alternate alternate e-mail
- 18:19addresses. Do something.
- 18:20Even if it's a person that you fell out of favor with, they
- 18:23fell out of favor with you. Contact them because they're
- 18:25still God's people. I would think that it first, you
- 18:30know, there is a certain aspect 'cause I'm still buddies with
- 18:34all of my Desert Storm friends and we got together a couple of
- 18:38years ago in Vegas for a reunion.
- 18:44And the, there's three of us women.
- 18:46We run a if a social media page and you know, one of them
- 18:52stepping away, I need to call her, she's stepping away from
- 18:55social media. Life is just liping, you know,
- 18:58people, people are going through some experiences on things.
- 19:03But it's something that kind of brought brought up with my guest
- 19:07last Saturday with Russ on there, and we were talking about
- 19:13the culture of things and I brought up Noah, you know, the
- 19:18Genesis Chapter 9. And remember when he woke up
- 19:23drunk, you know, Ham found him. Was it Hammersham?
- 19:30I have it pulled up. I forgot Ham.
- 19:33Yeah, Ham found him. And then he went and started
- 19:38telling everybody, right? I mean, he made this big deal
- 19:42about it, but it right he. Sobered up to cursed hand cane.
- 19:49But the whole. He cursed Cane.
- 19:53Why do you think he did that? He cursed Cane because Cane is
- 19:57the one that laughed at him because Noah had had a vineyard.
- 20:03He had a little too much bean over dinner and he he went into
- 20:07his tent and he was uncovered and Ham went and told him.
- 20:11His brother Shim and Japheth and he walked behind him, covered
- 20:14him up, but Katie and the grandson was laughing at his
- 20:19grandfather. He probably was laughing at him
- 20:23and saying some things that were disrespectful and dishonored.
- 20:26Oh for sure, because he was drunk and naked and he couldn't
- 20:31get. Even and say naked, she said
- 20:33naked. Naked.
- 20:35He was naked, but he but he didn't honor him.
- 20:39I mean, it, it, it, it was the whole dishonor side.
- 20:43Why is it it important to bring that up?
- 20:46Because it's something that we touched on while ago about the
- 20:51flood, right? The trauma of the flood and the
- 20:54grief that he, you know, can only imagine what he went
- 20:58through. Think about it.
- 20:59A lot of our veterans who have seen a lot, they seen or done a
- 21:03lot of things in their military service, not unlike what Noah
- 21:09had gone through, seeing the destruction of everybody except
- 21:13for his immediate family. On, on the on the ark that it
- 21:20and, and it gets into the well, why did I drink?
- 21:25I was talking with a friend of mine this morning and you know,
- 21:29the person has had some problems with alcohol and she was
- 21:34talking, it's a she was talking with her therapist and asked the
- 21:40question, well, why did you drink?
- 21:45What what was the expected end result?
- 21:47If you're drinking to get drunk, that's different than drinking
- 21:52because you enjoy. And this is just tea guys.
- 21:56I brewed us some fruit tea and non alcoholic, it's got honey in
- 22:01it. Are you drinking because you
- 22:05like the taste of it or are you drinking it because you want to
- 22:09get drunk and escape something? Those are two different results
- 22:13and what's going to happen. So, you know, I'm making this
- 22:17connection with what Russ was saying Saturday and he has an
- 22:23allergy problem. So that's a whole different kind
- 22:25of that's a third issue. He didn't drink to get drunk,
- 22:30but the liquor itself he is allergic to physiologically, it
- 22:35does something to his body. So he can't even have a sip.
- 22:40And I asked him after the show, did you ever think about gum?
- 22:44He goes like, what do you mean? I was like, well, you'd be
- 22:46surprised that there's some ingredients in, in gum like
- 22:51erythritol and maltitol. Those are, those are alcohol
- 22:57based sugars that can still 'cause you problems.
- 23:02They make me sick. I, I can't do the alcohol based
- 23:05sugars anyways, but it's a different kind of thing.
- 23:10But I, I'm, I'm bringing that part up because if you are, you
- 23:18know, thinking about Noah, well, why did he get drunk if he just,
- 23:23you know, had had his, you know, great.
- 23:27He's testing out the wine. You know, he's experimenting
- 23:32like my dad does, growing. Only he grew his own grapes and
- 23:38made his own wine. Dad can make some wine.
- 23:42That's some potent stuff, you know, I mean, especially if
- 23:46you're eating the cherries. Dad can do the cherries too.
- 23:51I don't know how I didn't ever have any, but from what I hear,
- 23:55the whole cherries and marinate them, you know?
- 24:00Yeah, apparently they can. They can make you pretty, pretty
- 24:04toasted. So anyways, if Noah.
- 24:08If Noah imbibe too much, that's one thing, but if the if there
- 24:15was the moral injury, healing and recovery side of things that
- 24:19he's trying to escape, the memories of what he saw happen,
- 24:25we can see. That's, you know, all those
- 24:28scripture is silent. Yes, wonderful.
- 24:31People, he was still mortal and human.
- 24:35Exactly. And that's that was his way of
- 24:39coping and his grandson laughed at him and and Ham was very,
- 24:45very fortunate and he didn't laugh and he took took the the
- 24:49route of his brothers, Japheth and Jim and covered him up.
- 24:53And then, you know, God compelled Noah to do the rest.
- 24:57So in by back not heard that word in 25 years.
- 25:03But if you are a wine Bibber or beer Bibber, you know there's
- 25:07enough's enough. But if that's your coping
- 25:09mechanism, I understand that. But for Noah, because Scripture
- 25:13was silent and because we too are human, immortal, we
- 25:17understand there was more. We don't know how many people he
- 25:20lost, his friends and family. Right.
- 25:22I mean, just even having the you know, think about it, Daryl,
- 25:26it's the guilt of I tried telling them right and and they
- 25:31listen right you. He tried bringing them to the
- 25:34water, but he couldn't make him drink it, you know, but they
- 25:38were going to get swallowed by it.
- 25:39You know, he tried and I'm sure to some degree felt like he
- 25:43failed because they didn't want, you know, they laughed at him
- 25:48and they. Did and up to the day sister
- 25:53people were were relationships given in the marriage maybe
- 25:58eating BBQ up to the day and that happened.
- 26:03So it wasn't just knowing that lost people his wife, his
- 26:08children, they lost family and friends too that they're
- 26:12probably close with, but they just didn't he and and the Holy
- 26:16Spirit. Oh my God, the Holy Spirit
- 26:19compels us to listen for those who care to live, those who have
- 26:23an ear this to listen, those who have an eye to see you, you
- 26:29will. Well, there's the other
- 26:30scripture for my my people will not perish for a lack of
- 26:33knowledge, right? I mean, we have not.
- 26:36We have knowledge. We ask not.
- 26:38Right. I think in even for our older
- 26:43population of veterans, I'm talking about the Vietnam, you
- 26:48know, era who came home and right, But if they were treated
- 26:55much like Noah was and not welcomed home, then they're
- 27:01going to they're going to have some feels about this too,
- 27:04right? I, I mean, because I think even
- 27:07in that culture of things, alcohol was the go to medicine.
- 27:12And if you don't trust the VA or if you're not trusting, you
- 27:16know, using pharmaceuticals or abstaining at all, what are you
- 27:22doing? How are you solving the
- 27:23problems? I mean, what, you got to work
- 27:27through something. The moral injury is there.
- 27:31I have no doubt that Noah was probably what our second example
- 27:38of moral injury, because the first would have been Adam and
- 27:42Eve. Well, Oh my God, people go all
- 27:47the way. So Adam and Eve because they
- 27:49lost Abel? Yep, God replaced it with Seth
- 27:52and other children were not named.
- 27:55And then, you know, again, Enoch's family probably had the
- 27:58moral injury because he didn't come home for the.
- 28:00He was gone. And then you had the aspect of
- 28:04Cain wandering the earth. I'm sure his parents missed him
- 28:08on some level, but he was gone. He was cast out.
- 28:12So you had all these dynamics going on, you know, early in
- 28:15Genesis. And then we get to there's some
- 28:19moral injury with Abraham, there's some moral injury with
- 28:23Isaac and. And Sarah.
- 28:24And Sarah? Right and and we must note,
- 28:28because even I've gone back 'cause we debated about this,
- 28:31Sarah was not touched in the ham.
- 28:33Just letting y'all know Pharaoh. He was like he he got the
- 28:38message, don't touch her. Yeah.
- 28:41And so a bill and that years later with Rachel, he touched
- 28:47her either because he knew right, God will speak to
- 28:50everybody because he created us right.
- 28:53So there's more injury in all of this, but the person we we
- 28:56really want to look at today outside of us.
- 29:01Joseph had all sorts of moral. Yeah, yeah, I, I kind of fell in
- 29:06love with his character. I I did.
- 29:09I was, I mean, there was depth to there's even.
- 29:13Vibing on. Joseph, there's depth.
- 29:17There's depth to Joseph, though. I mean it, it just from, it just
- 29:26was present. I mean, he didn't ever let the
- 29:30circumstances dictate how he was going to behave.
- 29:36I mean, 'cause he just left it all I'm here for.
- 29:39He trusted, Yeah, he trusted God.
- 29:41He was walking with God. That's why I put this back on,
- 29:44right, That he was walking with God.
- 29:48The Scripture does not say, oh, he was walking with God like it
- 29:52did earlier in Genesis, but I think it was, it didn't need to
- 29:57be set. Didn't.
- 29:59Need to be set we. Saw it.
- 30:01Yeah, right. Right.
- 30:02We. We saw in the mind.
- 30:07You're muted because we were having echo and so it's all
- 30:11going through this microphone. We we understand what God was
- 30:17doing for Joseph. When we get to the end of 5th,
- 30:24we start to see when we get to 50, we get to the middle and the
- 30:29end of 50 we really see how great of a man Joseph actually
- 30:32works. Well, the grace that he gave
- 30:38just all the way through. 'Cause his brothers would have
- 30:40executed him. Well, he was not ever.
- 30:42He didn't ever exhibit anger. He wasn't one of them.
- 30:47Though, right, he was not a knight.
- 30:49He he but he was not he didn't feel he was not filled with the
- 30:54rage that they would have been filled with right, because their
- 30:58propensity would have been for revenge.
- 31:01Maybe outside of? But everybody else wanted to get
- 31:05rid of. Yeah, I, I mean, he just walked
- 31:11with grace. I, I I don't know how to
- 31:13describe what he did. He got.
- 31:16Sold into slavery by his brothers. 30 pieces of silver.
- 31:20See See that arc of 30 pieces of silver throughout right?
- 31:23There's always something villainy associated with that.
- 31:26Then he went to Potiphar's house and his wife.
- 31:30This is the Hebrew name for her, Zulika.
- 31:32Zulika had amorous attentions towards Joseph.
- 31:35Joseph said no, she lied on Joseph.
- 31:38Joseph's in prison. Because he was the pool boy.
- 31:42This probably wasn't her first offense.
- 31:44This. Was yeah.
- 31:47Whatever, right? But he put him in prison.
- 31:50What did God do when Joseph was in prison?
- 31:52He ran the prisoner. Yeah.
- 31:55And then the, the, the cupbearer and the Baker came down with
- 32:00their problem. He interpreted the dreams.
- 32:03The the, the cupbearer knew because Fast forward, if the
- 32:08people that the Pharaoh had asked to interpret the dreams
- 32:12could not, he knew they were going to get executed.
- 32:14So he stepped up and said he got a brother down in the jail.
- 32:20He told me the outcome of me and the Baker.
- 32:22You see, I'm still here, right? He immediately summoned and we
- 32:27know the rest is biblical history.
- 32:30Well, he got donned with everything, right?
- 32:33He got he he got the new ring, got the the rogue, right?
- 32:39Got the wife, got the new house, got the new title.
- 32:43I mean, that was like what you were talking about earlier.
- 32:46He won the lottery that day. What?
- 32:48He is that. Now, yeah, but what he, what he
- 32:54received, he then paid forward and bounced the, you know,
- 32:59bountiful ways. Bountiful.
- 33:01I mean, even when he came across his brothers.
- 33:05And could you imagine that, Darrell?
- 33:07Remember we talked about this when we had that episode.
- 33:11They didn't know. They didn't know who he was
- 33:15'cause he looked Egyptian. He, he had, you know, he was
- 33:19wearing that Egyptian persona and recognizing your brothers.
- 33:24Now you can't eat with them because of the culture.
- 33:27Can't, you know, can't do lots of other things.
- 33:32But I was taken by the scripture that said he went around the
- 33:36corner and he wept. But that was not the first.
- 33:41I mean, yes, he loved them. He didn't have any animosity
- 33:47towards them, even as the story goes on and doing this testing,
- 33:54right? Who are these people?
- 33:56I, I had to know, you know, do they have some, maybe some
- 34:00regrets? They did figure out some of
- 34:02their own character flaws and get back on the right path.
- 34:07That was Judah, right? Judah.
- 34:09Yeah. Judah, I think, had a come to
- 34:13Jesus moment with God. Yeah.
- 34:21They they circumcised and killed the men of of of the place and
- 34:26then he went in and misbehaved somewhere else.
- 34:29This probably would it's it's coming to take this moment being
- 34:33there in jail wondering what's going to happen and then in the
- 34:37aftermath. But I'll go back to what we
- 34:39talked about earlier in the narrative of Genesis.
- 34:44If roles have been reversed, His brothers still with salt
- 34:49hurting. Maybe outside of maybe outside
- 34:52of Reuben and Jury. But the other brothers said he
- 34:55did not care for Joseph. At all so part of one of my had
- 35:02it had it written. They were living in fear because
- 35:08they were fearful. What if he does rule over us?
- 35:15Yeah. I mean, they repeat, they
- 35:17repeated it again. So they acted out of fear early
- 35:21on. And that's how Joseph ended up
- 35:23being sold in the 1st place. And even as the fear, you know,
- 35:28remember they were having a conversation on the donkeys, the
- 35:31back and forth and back and forth and, you know, the fear
- 35:35that was developing. What are we supposed to say?
- 35:38What are we supposed to do? You know, we got to get our
- 35:43yeah, who is this guy? Because they still don't even
- 35:46know who he was. And and then as as you know,
- 35:52Israel passes away. They thought that that he was
- 35:56going to take it out on them again, but he didn't ever do
- 36:00that. And he was still trying to bless
- 36:02them. But that was living, living in
- 36:06fear every time. Even when we go back to all
- 36:11these, look at Darrell, think about all the other stories,
- 36:15talk about fear in some ways too, right?
- 36:18Even Sarah, she was fearful of not having a child, not having
- 36:23inheritance, right? And so fear of, you know, not
- 36:29being able to be the woman she was supposed to be.
- 36:32I get it. I, I was a late blossomer with
- 36:36children and I thought that there was something wrong with
- 36:39me. I I was not, was I not?
- 36:43Yeah. Could I not be the woman I was
- 36:46supposed to be? I'm Catholic.
- 36:47I'm supposed to have a whole bunch of kids.
- 36:49He's. Going to have three basketballs.
- 36:55God, God said no poor is good. You did your Catholic thing.
- 37:00The Lord would have a special, special place in heaven for you,
- 37:03right? And so we, we, we look at though
- 37:06that's one of those things, because this happens more a few
- 37:09times than scripture, particularly with Sarah and
- 37:12Sarah and Hannah, Samuel's mother, right?
- 37:16Because she was promised a child.
- 37:18And so here we are. And John the Baptist's mother,
- 37:22Elizabeth, right? She had him.
- 37:24She, she was an older woman when she had John the Baptist.
- 37:30So when God says that your age does not matter, your product
- 37:35shall come forth, He means that. One of the things that think you
- 37:41and I talked about the other day, sometimes we talk offline
- 37:45if, you know, between shows. We had an opportunity the other
- 37:48day and I had made some notes about sins.
- 37:54So, you know, we know the 10 commandments, right?
- 37:58And there's I think evidence of all of the 10 commandments being
- 38:05shown or displayed throughout even Genesis, although you, you
- 38:11have to, I think we have to see it being the stage set for it to
- 38:16understand why we get the 10 commandments when it comes
- 38:19around. But one of my notes here, intent
- 38:24is a moral issue. And what I mean by that, well,
- 38:28if you think about even what the intent of Joseph's brothers
- 38:34were, their intent was a moral issue.
- 38:37They, they were ice. They did not have God as their
- 38:41moral compass, right, as their true north.
- 38:44So their intent was, was airing, it was airing with quite a few
- 38:50other people as well. And that's the difference
- 38:53between walking with God versus not walking with God.
- 38:57And I think the difference for many, many military members.
- 39:02And I'm going to go like, you know, with some of the most
- 39:05prevalent, you know, our operators, you know, the
- 39:08operator syndrome is a huge thing.
- 39:11And if you look at the intent was not to be morally injurious.
- 39:19The intent of the operator's mission was to fulfill the
- 39:23mission that was given to them by higher authorities in the
- 39:29military. So the intent is not a personal
- 39:33thing. And I think we have to be clear,
- 39:34helping as the revivalist side of things, move the needle from
- 39:39moral injury to healing and recovery, that the intent of the
- 39:44actions that some of our folks may have taken was not from the
- 39:51sinful nature side because they were following military orders.
- 39:55So if you're looking at trying to how do you fix the soul?
- 39:58How do you, how does that soul repair happen?
- 40:02Understand that the intent of what you did is the root cause
- 40:08of. Is it a personal action that you
- 40:12are responsible for and you've got to go to God for that, or
- 40:17you're, you followed orders and yes, you had a conflict with
- 40:23your moral compass because you had a moral compass there.
- 40:26But you've got to reconcile and give it to God still yet in
- 40:31order to make sure that you're having the absolution that you
- 40:36deserve, that you can have the healing and recovery side of
- 40:40things. So you were talking about the RV
- 40:46yesterday and and patching and pasting?
- 40:49My demo. I'm doing demo lesson yesterday.
- 40:53We can't do demo properly unless we have the plan to do so.
- 40:59Yeah, we have to be a willing participant and actively willing
- 41:03participant, A proactive participant to have the, the
- 41:09Reformation, the restoration of us to occur.
- 41:14Because if we're just patching and plugging, it doesn't work.
- 41:18We need to have surgery on the soul.
- 41:22And even brought up the things that people do.
- 41:25They brought up the, she brought up the adultery, which includes
- 41:28fornication, which includes a lot of different things in that
- 41:31whole sexual sect. The, the misbehaving, the
- 41:35alcoholism, the drug abuse, misuse and use the, the, the
- 41:40physical and emotional and mental abuse of people, the
- 41:44sexual assault, all sorts of things which are sinful that you
- 41:49detest, but there's somebody close to you in the shadows.
- 41:55We're doing it. So we look at Joseph not as a
- 42:00perfect man, but he's probably as close to perfect as we were
- 42:03ever going to find based on the narrative, if we could strive to
- 42:07be more like him. Remember, this man was in prison
- 42:10for 13 years. He was in a he was in prison,
- 42:15not the county jail or the city jail.
- 42:17He went, he had no baby at all. He went straight to prison and
- 42:22he flourished there because he allowed God to use him when you
- 42:26want your soul repaired. Something that you and I were
- 42:34talking about yesterday was Game of Thrones, right?
- 42:38Remember that? And you know, who do you bend
- 42:43the knee to? Think about that, folks, who or
- 42:48what do you bend the knee to? Because you, you, you've
- 42:52probably been in the need of something and but you, if you
- 42:59don't identify that and you're not trying to figure out who the
- 43:04true north of your moral compass is, then you're still missing
- 43:08part of the equation. It's that thing I was talking
- 43:10about earlier, 1 + 0. If you have no God or substitute
- 43:17it as your little G God to equal 2, that is not the same thing as
- 43:24one plus big G God to get to 2. Because it's really 1 + 0 you
- 43:31think is equaling 2. You're only lying to yourself.
- 43:36I don't know. I thought that was.
- 43:37So we we said because I use this all the time before I could be
- 43:44person. You don't like what he did say,
- 43:48so I will bring you the Hill act out of sort of food.
- 43:58Why? Because you don't have to.
- 44:00I bet you all this tough God talk about God's not this and
- 44:04doggone Jesus and who is the Holy Spirit.
- 44:07That's a lot of tough God talk. You're not going to say that
- 44:09when you did. You're not going to say that on
- 44:11on resurrection day. You're not going to say that in
- 44:13the judgment day. You're not going to say any of
- 44:15that. You're going to be scared to
- 44:17death. So we have to start now with
- 44:20healing the soul. It's behavior modification, it's
- 44:26spiritual. It's spiritual healing and
- 44:29health that goes along with that.
- 44:31Nobody's preaching to anybody here.
- 44:33We're just telling the truth. What is work for other people?
- 44:37If you buy into it, it'll work for you as long as Scripture is
- 44:41backed up by it. It's the choices we make and,
- 44:45and if we're not making the right choices, once I heard
- 44:49somebody talked about it today, if you're, if you are double
- 44:55guessing yourself, am I making the right choice and you're
- 44:59having to have that conversation, then chances are
- 45:03you might not be making the right choice.
- 45:06You know, I mean, you just got to look at it that way.
- 45:09One of my other notes that I made, and this is going back
- 45:13about Joseph again. Oh Page.
- 45:17What I mean, it's what I do when I drink my coffee because God
- 45:23works with me. I mean, he he does.
- 45:26Give him. The glow, not a good price.
- 45:29So thinking about Joseph and his weeping, and that's the evidence
- 45:34of moral injury. And I'm going to take a quick
- 45:36pause on there because I know that there are people who cannot
- 45:39cry. I think that's evidence of moral
- 45:43injury as well. You need to know what the signs
- 45:46and symptoms look like. I, I, I, I, I, the people that I
- 45:53know that they, they want to be able to cry, but for some reason
- 46:00there's a barrier there and they can't release it.
- 46:04They can maybe get a couple little tears, but, you know, to
- 46:08really weep. And, and, and that's to me, the
- 46:12way the Bible depicted it for Joseph was that he wept.
- 46:17Weeping is a different type of crying than just a cry.
- 46:23I mean, you know, how many of us can cry at a sappy movie?
- 46:28Weeping is not the same thing as crying at a sappy movie, you
- 46:32know, But he was he was learning to forgive, but not forget the
- 46:42hurt, the lost years. So this is going back to the,
- 46:46the moral injury and grief side of things, the lost years, the
- 46:50personal pain, the trauma experience, because, you know, I
- 46:54both know there are some, you know, Cray Cray things that
- 46:58happened in prison, right? I mean, the moral compass is
- 47:03severely missing in in prison settings.
- 47:09And you know, that's got a that's a trauma experience
- 47:15probably in and of itself. But he but the difference for
- 47:19Joseph was that he was wise enough to know why it happened,
- 47:24because this all goes back to the original dream that he had
- 47:31that he foretold to them. He, he knew this early on that
- 47:37this was something significant in his life and it wasn't
- 47:42comfortable, I'm sure to and he was.
- 47:45Explaining. It right to endure any of that,
- 47:47but he was a willing participant and bent the knee to fulfill
- 47:52God's wish. The.
- 47:56The scriptures teach us, and they're very sacred, everyone.
- 47:59The sacred scriptures teach us that.
- 48:03When you just look at the story of Joseph, he was without fault.
- 48:08He was a precursor to Christ, if you will.
- 48:13So you know, you're about Mchelzenit and such that king.
- 48:17When we talk about Joseph, he's nearly perfect because the way
- 48:23he's outlined in the Sacred Scriptures, he's perfect.
- 48:28I mean, who wouldn't want to strive to be this brother?
- 48:30I mean, you got a whole collection of folks that you
- 48:34could want to strive to be. Why would you not want to be
- 48:37strive to be? Joseph?
- 48:38He was only second in favor of the Kingdom.
- 48:41Yeah. Over all of the other tips,
- 48:45right? He was the outsider as the
- 48:47number two. Could you imagine any major
- 48:50country working like that now these days?
- 48:53Could you imagine that? #2 running.
- 48:56Everything that would be that would be wild for that to
- 48:59happen. Some of the the other biggest
- 49:03thing that I wrote on my page was Bubba's greed about their
- 49:10dad passing away. Do you remember that?
- 49:14Well. I want, I want all the animals,
- 49:17I want the property. I I mean, Can you imagine all of
- 49:20that greed? But.
- 49:21But he'd already, Jacob had already told them what they're
- 49:24going to get. Right.
- 49:26But now, right, It's well, he's not here now.
- 49:29Maybe you know. No, he's told you what you're
- 49:32going to get with. And Joseph probably, we don't
- 49:35know, 'cause Scripture, silence, probably bless them with such a
- 49:38sister, 'cause remember, they had the best land, they had the
- 49:41best part. Of the land, right, right.
- 49:43But they took dad back and buried him in the family tomb.
- 49:50I but I could, you could just imagine them having those
- 49:53conversations with each other and thinking, wow, he's, he's
- 50:00going to do this. He's going to do so they're
- 50:03they're after all, they've gone through all the rescuing that he
- 50:07had done, save them from famine, and yet they're still trying to
- 50:12get down and just be petty about this stuff.
- 50:16They had. They hadn't learned anything.
- 50:19They had. Not evolved.
- 50:22I, I mean, that's The funny thing about it is they hadn't
- 50:24evolved. If Joseph was all about, hey,
- 50:27we've moved past this. Where?
- 50:30Where? You.
- 50:36Still there. Yeah, interesting.
- 50:38You're thinking about the small things.
- 50:42Yeah, right. But ironically, Joseph was the
- 50:47first of the kids to go, right. I mean, that was the, that was
- 50:52the sad part. They were older than they were
- 51:00older. Than him but.
- 51:02Obviously, but his purpose? Is.
- 51:05Great. But think about it though, just
- 51:07like in some of those other earlier characters, I think God
- 51:13gave him a few more years. Maybe they'll figure it out.
- 51:16You know, it's give him a little bit more time and they just have
- 51:20had it right. He didn't need to live 150 years
- 51:24or 500 years. 110 was good enough and God just so we're all
- 51:31clear the Lord our God gave Jacob 13.
- 51:35I'm sorry 17 interviews with this sound of jokes isn't that
- 51:39amazing left when he 17 gave me 17 more.
- 51:42So we are very very fortunate to know that God already had a plan
- 51:47for the 22 people who are viewing this.
- 51:50Thank you. We really do.
- 51:52We really thank you because you could be watching the Looney
- 51:54Tunes and Mary Melody watching us, and we certainly appreciate
- 51:58your time and your effort. Absolutely.
- 52:00When we tell the when we tell these stories come straight from
- 52:02script. That's the only thing we making
- 52:04up. It's right here now.
- 52:06We're expounding upon it and it can be expanded for you.
- 52:10So when you go back and read it, you'll see exactly where we came
- 52:13from. But we again, we without your
- 52:16viewership, without your notes, without your, your, your attic
- 52:20girls and Atta boys, you know, we're just talking heads to We
- 52:23don't ever feel like we're talking heads, you know, we're
- 52:26proclaiming the gospel to. I like what you said about the
- 52:30scripture, Daryl, 'cause I think a lot of people think, you know,
- 52:34that was a story that happened way back when.
- 52:37And yeah, it feels like we are missing bits and pieces that,
- 52:41you know, the filler, the in between the all the list of
- 52:44questions that I have been writing about, you know, in
- 52:47Genesis. I think in some ways it's kind
- 52:52of like the way I even I wrote welcome to my people garden.
- 52:56I I didn't ever feel like I needed to get into the weeds
- 53:00until the nitty gritty of stuff because I wanted people to know
- 53:05just enough to plug and play their own lives.
- 53:09And they know the rest of the story.
- 53:11They they don't need to know my gossip weeds, you know getting
- 53:16into the the dirt and and you know going in deep because we
- 53:22can I. Never.
- 53:25Knew what that meant. So I can't get in the weed.
- 53:27Yeah. But you know, I think it's
- 53:29important for people to be able to read the Bible and plug in
- 53:34for themselves and apply it in their life.
- 53:39And that's OK. If something does not apply to
- 53:41you, don't totally discard it. Take it for a mental note
- 53:47because it might be something that you see later, but you've
- 53:51got the critical thinking skills that having having understood
- 53:57now. And this is the first time I
- 53:59ever read the Bible like this and us having this active
- 54:03discussion week by week, because I tell you when I, I'm
- 54:08contemplating things week to week and I get a, you know, I,
- 54:14I, I, I don't know, God works with me on it.
- 54:18Yeah. And I'm like, oh, that's oh,
- 54:21snap. That's what he means by that,
- 54:24right? The whole grieving thing, for
- 54:27those of you who don't know. Hey, guys.
- 54:31MJ popped in, she's one of our hosts and Joel's got us out
- 54:38there on TikTok and, and ex and everything.
- 54:44I didn't, you know, I lost both of my ex husbands in 2014 and
- 54:482015. I feel like I'm an expert on
- 54:52grief. You know, you don't know what
- 54:56it's like to raise children without their dads until it
- 55:02actually happens. And you know, I have 4 kids,
- 55:05never in a million years that I think that I'd have 4 kids and
- 55:08no dads around to help me. And, and I have people like, you
- 55:13know, gosh, I live vicariously through you.
- 55:17Hey, be careful. It this hasn't been easy, right?
- 55:22It it is not been easy and it's and somebody told me yesterday
- 55:28that I made it, made something. And she says spying on us,
- 55:33laughing. I don't do it.
- 55:36I don't do and share things to make it feel easy.
- 55:40But guess what guys? If I can do something, you can
- 55:43do it. And I and the characters in the
- 55:46Bible, if they can do it, we can get through things too.
- 55:53Absolutely. And the reason why we can is
- 55:55because we trust who God is. We trust him, right?
- 56:00And it hasn't always been that way because, you know, we, like
- 56:03sheep, have gone astray. But we do know this.
- 56:07There's going to be a time, a place, and a date that we're
- 56:10going to have to give an account of all of our lives, what we've
- 56:13done and what we have not done. You have an opportunity to
- 56:16become a servant for people. That's what you do.
- 56:19Because it's not about you. It's not about accolades, not
- 56:23about Confederate parades. It's about what is our
- 56:26relationship with God, to be a servant, because Christ Jesus,
- 56:30our Lord, Savior, demon king, that's exactly who he remains to
- 56:34us, a servant. So what do you want to do?
- 56:40Do we, are we going to go ahead and do another discussion next
- 56:44week, next week? Until we can't discuss it
- 56:47anymore. Did this, this particular
- 56:49family, this particular family, we can, we can go up and down
- 56:56the line. There's moral injury, there's
- 56:58spilling everywhere. Yeah.
- 56:59There's spilling even with the concubines, even with the.
- 57:02Oh, for sure, yeah, 'cause we have not talked about Rachel,
- 57:06haven't really talked about Sarah.
- 57:08So we have plenty of people to talk about next week.
- 57:11So this is what we're going to, you know, we'll, we'll do
- 57:14another recap next week. And that's because I feel like
- 57:19there's room for us to really make those correlations with
- 57:24society today and make sure that, you know, we have this
- 57:30framework as as revivalists and discussing DSM 5 moral injury,
- 57:37healing and recovery. Because if we don't put God back
- 57:41in as the moral compass, then we're still, you know, as true
- 57:45north as true north, then we're still, we're still misguided.
- 57:51So we've got to get back on the path.
- 57:53You know the sacred scriptures really quickly before we get
- 57:56off. They always when it's important,
- 58:01it outlines what a person looks like, It said.
- 58:05Joseph was handsome and well built.
- 58:09What did the what did the scripture say about his mother
- 58:13say the same thing Boss Sarah. It hinted at that.
- 58:17So so Jacob, Isaac and and and Abraham and or every wives from
- 58:22this right. Hey, we don't know what they
- 58:25look like. We didn't know that they have to
- 58:28be wives. But we also know that Joseph
- 58:30because that was Rachel's son. He probably was a reflection of
- 58:34her in male form. Could be.
- 58:39All right, I'm going to go ahead and lead us in the closing
- 58:41prayer, OK? Yep.
- 58:43Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for bringing us together today
- 58:47and discussing the great people in Genesis that we are not any
- 58:54different. And hopefully the stories about
- 58:58their characters and what they've endured is something
- 59:03that we can all do some self reflection on and work on our
- 59:08own moral injury, healing and recovery.
- 59:11Thank you, Father, for your blessings, for nourishing our
- 59:15bodies and healing us. And many prayers to all of those
- 59:19who are out there going through trials and journeys.
- 59:22Come and join us as a revivalist.
- 59:25And may may God's word impact you for today, tomorrow,
- 59:31forever. In your name we pray.
- 59:33Amen. Well, it's done.
- 59:34Always fear. All right, we'll see you guys
