Today I'm joined by Dr. Jennifer who's a trauma-informed hypnotherapist, breathwork, and EFT facilitator, Dr Jennifer Schlueter: you emmamma: and supports women navigating endometriosis and other room-related conditions. Her work centers Dr Jennifer Schlueter: you emmamma: on the connection between the subconscious mind and the body and how what we've experienced emotionally and Dr Jennifer Schlueter: Thank emmamma: physically can shape the way our bodies communicate to us. I'm so excited to have you here today. Thanks so much for being here. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: Thank you so much for having me. I'm super excited as well. emmamma: Yeah, so why don't you start by telling just everyone a little bit more about who you are as a human being? Dr Jennifer Schlueter: I am as a human being. So I really love to dance salsa, machata, kizomba. I am a big foodie. I love vegetarian vegan food. I love to travel. I've traveled to over 50 countries and I work online. emmamma: That's great. I love that. So let's dive right into it. What led you like into this work supporting women and how'd you get into it? Dr Jennifer Schlueter: So when I was in my normal job, had a normal job, a 9 to 5 managing editor of 22 newspapers, great job, but I wasn't fulfilled. And back then my friend recommended a hypnotherapist to me because I was also making bad decisions with men and alcohol. So she was like, Jenny, just go to my hypnotherapist, she will help you. I said, okay, let me go there. And... I went there and the next morning I woke up at 5 a.m. and I had made the decision to quit the job and to travel the world. six months later I was on the road and then I began to dive deeper into hypnosis because I really loved it. It has helped me a lot. Like I did more sessions and it really helped me a big, big deal and I explored it and eventually it led me to having sessions with people who had physical issues. So tension in their body, back pain, miscarriages and all of that. And I was able to help everyone within one to three sessions. So I was like, wow, this is quite incredible. And I want to dive deeper into this. I got more, I got to know more about how our emotions are stuck in the body. And if we don't release them, they manifest as illnesses. And I've also worked a lot with women, especially on that front. So eventually I said I want to write my PhD on something like this and I started out with cancer and hypnosis. But when you have cancer, there's a lot you have to fight for when it comes to your mindset because everyone keeps telling you either you're going to die or it's incurable or something else. So it's a big, big mindset shift that you would have to make. So I was like, okay, let me try with something easier first and then I get into cancer again. Something easier happened to be endometriosis because my best friend, helped her getting rid of her back pain and she was like, Jenny, I need you to help my friends because so many of them have endo and I really think you could help them. And so she sent me her friends and I was able to help her within a session to go from PMS, bad mood swings, bad cravings, bad period pain. One session I went with her into her childhood trauma, released it. And we actually got to help her to the point where she had no more mood swings, no more cravings, and she was not annoying her husband on the day of her period, like that she was feeling so bad. And she really emmamma: Mm-hmm. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: improved her relationship and had no barely any more period pain to the point where she went dancing. So I decided to write my PhD on that. emmamma: That's so cool. I love that. So I think so many people, myself included, probably have this idea of what hypnosis is based on like what you see in movies or like at some show or something like that. And I'm suspecting that that's not necessarily like what the way that you do it or like how you could use it for health benefits and things like that. So can you like talk through just like generally what that looks like? So you have a little bit of a better understanding. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: Absolutely. So on the one hand you have street hypnosis and entertainment hypnosis, which is simply for entertainment and people make people eat onions and pretend they taste like apples or they make people cluck like a chicken or something like that, right? That is street hypnosis emmamma: Mm-hmm. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: and entertainment hypnosis. Great thing, works with the same principle, which is simply putting the mind into a trance state, which a trance state is simply a relaxed state of mind. In hypnotherapy, we don't click with our fingers or swing pendulums or anything like that. Talk to you and we relax you with our voice. We could use all of that, but mainly it we relax people with our voice and We do this because we want to turn off the conscious mind we want to turn off the part of your brain that is judging criticizing analyzing and Thinking all the time as we do now right right now as we're talking People are judging me. They're analyzing what I'm saying all of that We turn off that part and once we turn off that part This is where you get to access what is deep within you you? access memories that you don't even remember that have to do something with a pattern or a problem that you're experiencing right now. You can channel spirit, you can go into past lives, you can do all kinds of things with hypnosis, hypnotherapy and spiritual hypnosis is what I call it. This is the main difference. emmamma: Yeah, that's helpful. That's good to kind of differentiate because yeah, I think like, I had not explained it that way. But yeah, but like straight hypnosis entertaining. That's definitely what most people I think initially come to think of. And that obviously is not not the same thing at all. when you're working with people, I'm assuming people are coming from all sorts of states of mind. But do you ever are people coming? With like, overwhelm and like not even wondering, maybe even wondering if this is a possibility of something that could work for them or being a little skeptical and how do you approach that? Dr Jennifer Schlueter: Absolutely. have people, so it's either people trust me completely or it's like people are emmamma: Yeah. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: skeptical, somewhere in the middle sometimes. But I approach it simply in a way that first of all you have nothing to lose if this doesn't work. What do have to lose? Like, I'm not like, hypnosis doesn't have a bad effect on you. So there's nothing emmamma: Mm-hmm. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: to lose on your physical body, on your mental body. But what I say is really allow yourself to relax and feel the magic and the miracles that can happen when you are in a relaxed state of mind. Because when do you do that nowadays? We are constantly inundated with social media, with advertising, with TV, with Netflix, blah, blah, all of that stuff, right? When do we take the time to go deep within, to sit with our yourself to even meditation for 10 minutes does not equal to hypnosis that is for like an hour, an hour and a half. In some cases, some people do it for like three or four hours. That's too long for me, but my usual time is like 90 minutes. When do you take care of yourself that much for 90 minutes that you can go so deeply into your subconscious that you can just do something good for yourself, something beneficial? emmamma: Yeah, that's so true. We're not doing that. We're not taking that time. And like you said, we're inundated with so many different things. And I think that that in itself is powerful to be able to just sit with that. I think you were alluding to the fact that even if it doesn't cure whatever you're coming with in that one session, you at least have that time to be able to sit with yourself and really give yourself some. care that you need and just kind of be in in your own space. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: for it. Emmamma: hey, I'm just popping in real quick to say Make sure you're subscribed to the Cyclical Doula podcast on whichever platform you're listening to. ⁓ And don't miss upcoming conversations. If this episode is resonating with you, please share it with a friend, rate it and write a review. This is how this movement grows, not through algorithms, but through women talking to women. All right, let's jump back into it. emmamma: what do you feel like is the, the biggest shift that's happened either like with you or clients of this healing that's taking place? You kind of mentioned that sometimes you, it's only one session that people need to, to really feel, like a complete shift, but is that typical? Is it typically only one session and what does that kind of look like? Dr Jennifer Schlueter: It depends on the issue, depends on the person, it depends on the day. emmamma: Mm. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: So I always say you can get a breakthrough within a single session. You can become pain free in a single session and resolve your other issues in a single session. But if it is something that is like a, let's say a mental health condition such as anxiety, depression, or anything like that, it will take longer. Suicidal thoughts, anything like that. It will have you have to, you have to a different identity. You have to build the identity without the anxiety, without the depression, without the pain. Who are you without the pain? Who are you without suffering? Who are you without relating to people about your suffering? Who are you without depression? Who are you without all of that? And so I can give you a breakthrough in a session, but then it takes time and effort on your end as well to build a new identity without all of that. And then I have people who come back to me because they want to and they want to work with me for longer because they have something bigger they have like a childhood trauma they want to build their identity together with me so it is very different very dependent on the person anything can happen emmamma: Yeah, absolutely. As you're talking about that, wonder, so if somebody is like thinking, listening to this and they're like, ooh, like I wonder if there's something that could be resolved, even though there's not something that's, do you feel like everybody could kind of use this or is there a certain aspect of symptoms or experiences that people come into really needing this work with you? Dr Jennifer Schlueter: Yeah. So the great thing about hypnosis is we can literally help with anything, which is crazy, but there's nothing that I know that a hypnotherapist couldn't have solved. Like because we have people who can solve anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, pregnancy, even people get surgery with hypnosis instead of anesthesia because it helps turning off the pain. We emmamma: Mm-hmm. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: get kinds of pain, back pain, we chose is allergies, anything, right? And then you have the other side, we can help with money, we can help with relationships, we can help with the lifestyle, like really getting rid of any problem and manifesting anything that you want. Why? Because everything comes down to either trauma that has been stored that needs to be released, building a new identity. And it comes down to self-worth at the end of the day. How much do you love yourself emmamma: Mm-hmm. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: to get rid of the pain? How much do you love yourself to make more money? How much do you love yourself to live the new lifestyle that you want? So that is what it comes down to and that's why it is really helpful in all kinds of areas. emmamma: Yeah, that's awesome. So I wonder, so most of the people that I'm working with, like we're talking about tracking their cycles on a day to day basis so they understand their fertility and using that to avoid pregnancy or to achieve a pregnancy, things like that. How do you think, other than just like women as a whole and like coming into working with you, is there anything specific that comes to mind that you could think about that would be helpful for like their cyclical living? You mentioned endometriosis earlier. What else comes to mind for you? Dr Jennifer Schlueter: The big thing that comes to mind is always that women take care of everyone else first and not themselves. Because in society we have learned that we have to take care of the kids, we are the ones who create the communities, we are the ones who take care of everyone, of husbands, of partners, of whoever. when women put themselves first, especially in their cycle, because right now the world is not built for a woman's cycle, it's built for a man's cycle. So when we start putting ourselves first, when we start working with our cycle, then the world is gonna change. And if the whole world would actually cater to our cycles as well as to the men's cycle, the world would be a different place. emmamma: Absolutely. I completely agree. Is there one thing that comes to mind when you say that about what we could change as a society of living more cyclically in the women's cycle? Dr Jennifer Schlueter: The one thing that everyone can change is to really feel into themselves and see what they need. Where are you emmamma: Mm-hmm. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: in your cycle today? Do you need rest? Do you feel good to go out? Do you need something else? Do you need help? Do you need support? Really? taking care of ourselves, our minds and our bodies and knowing what it is that we need and then communicating that. And then on the other side, emmamma: Mm-hmm. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: understanding what other people need as well. Like really listen to catering to other people as well. Okay, you were there in your cycle? Okay, I got you, I understand you, I know what that feels like. So it's fine, you don't have to come emmamma: Yeah. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: to the event or whatever, right? So it's a mutual giving and taking. emmamma: Yeah, that's so good. I love that. And I think it's one of those things that, like you kind of mentioned, just being able to like be aware of understanding what this looks like can bring a whole new perspective to having these conversations as a whole as a society and really just allowing people to get what they need and be able to just support each other as a whole. What else do you feel like people need to know about either hypnotherapy or the work that you do in spiritual healing to kind of understand if this is something that they'd want to be doing for themselves? Dr Jennifer Schlueter: So I would say that... Whether you meditate or whether you choose hypnosis, it's one of the most powerful things that you can do for yourself is silencing your mind. Whether you do it by yourself or whether you do it with a guide, when you silence your mind, you get clarity, you get creative ideas, you get awareness on where you are, where you stand, what do you think about something. And the more we do that, the more powerful we get to be. Because the more, the longer I work with someone, for example, we explore different things right let's say somebody comes to me with anxiety depression or something that is a bit more big to tackle and we go into all different things we go into your purpose what is your purpose here what's you know what happened in your past lives what has what's happening in the future what are we manifesting for you how are we changing your identity so we're going into all of this and the more we do that the more we go into silence the more we go relax your mind the more self-love you will gain, the more self-trust you will gain, the happier you will be, the less anxious and depressed you will be. So the more we take time to understand ourselves, to work with ourselves and to be in silence, the more our life is gonna change. I'm no longer afraid of death or anything emmamma: Mm-hmm. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: really because I I've just worked on myself in silence where that is no longer an issue. emmamma: Yeah, that's so great because I think that's such a mind block for so many people is that we're coming into our daily life of a lot of fear and a lot of hesitation and being able to really sit in that space is absolutely amazing. Is there something that you'd like to share about like rhythms or rituals that you do on a daily basis to connect with your own body beyond maybe things that you've already shared. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: Yes, absolutely. So I really, really, really enjoy breathwork and there's a great guy on YouTube, his name is Breathe With Sandy. He has all different kinds of breathwork, some for anxiety, some for changing your state, some for trauma relief or grief. And I really, really love that. And you can just, you know, sit with yourself for 10, 15 minutes, do one of his videos. Then there is EFT, Emotional Freedom Tapping. Sometimes I do it by myself, which is really to get my emotions out of my body so that I can feel unblocked again, like when I'm really angry or when I'm really frustrated, I do EFT simply because... EFT helps me release the tension and once emmamma: Mm-hmm. Dr Jennifer Schlueter: the tension is released obviously I feel better and then I dance and for me dancing is the greatest thing on earth to shift your state. Not only am I releasing everything that's no longer serving me but I get all the endorphins, I get happy, I become more confident and it's the best thing and I can just completely let loose and let go of anything that was bugging me or... and I can really connect with my body, with the moment. And I do partner dance, right? So I also get to connect with other people. So it's a really beautiful way to connect with your own body and with other people. emmamma: That's so good. I love all of those things. And I think I've had other people on the podcast talk about EFT before. But I think that's one of those things that can be such a tool for people in breathwork as well. Just in the moment, in a situation of we're feeling overwhelmed in this particular moment in parenting, in work life, in all of these things, and can use those tools right in there. And then I love... the idea of bringing in something like dance too and being able to connect to your body and to others in that way. It's awesome. Yeah, well, I have been loving this conversation. What else do you want to share with people? What comes to mind that you feel like you just want the person listening to hear? Dr Jennifer Schlueter: I want everyone to know that all the answers are within them already. It simply needs silence. Again, I'm stressing the silence really, whether it's meditation or whether it's with a guide on hypnosis, but the answers are already within you. And the most important thing that hypnosis can also teach you when you do it with someone or if you hypnotize yourself is that you really know or you will find out that every answer that you want or need, every next step that you need or want is within you already. You already know what you need to do. and you have all the answers that you need already within you. And if not, if you're suppressed, then your body will tell you. emmamma: Yes, so true. I love that. Well, thanks so much for sharing all of your information. How can someone connect with you if they're interested in working with you or learning more? Dr Jennifer Schlueter: You can find me on Facebook, on Instagram, on TikTok, on YouTube. I have loads and loads of free hypnosis on YouTube. And I also have a website, mindyoursubconscious.com, where you can find out more. emmamma: Awesome. Thanks so much for being here.
