- 0:12Speaker 1: And welcome to the Mic Drop Comedy Podcast. We are
- 0:18Speaker 1: here at day two, again, of the Big Pine Comedy Festival.
- 0:22Speaker 1: I'm your host here in Chandler. I'm Sari Beliak, and
- 0:25Speaker 1: I'm very excited to be sitting here with my pal,
- 0:27Speaker 1: Kalia McNeil. Hey. Hey.
- 0:29Speaker 2: How are we feeling?
- 0:29Speaker 3: I'm feeling great. It feels good out here.
- 0:32Speaker 2: It does. The sun went down. I feel like that's a.
- 0:35Speaker 3: That helps in Phoenix Chandler adjacent.
- 0:38Speaker 2: And you're visiting us from.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Los Angeles.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Los Angeles.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Yes. Okay.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Did you fly in?
- 0:43Speaker 3: Did you drive? I drove. Okay. I'm a driver. I
- 0:46Speaker 3: don't mind driving anything less than like 10. I'm okay.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Yeah, what did you do on the drive? Are you music, podcast,
- 0:55Speaker 2: zone out, listen to your own?
- 0:56Speaker 3: I'm one of two. It's music. I'll either split it
- 0:59Speaker 3: music and like a murder pod or straight music. This
- 1:04Speaker 3: trip was straight music.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:07Speaker 3: And by straight music, I mean not gay.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Okay, what was on the playlist?
- 1:13Speaker 1: Um.
- 1:14Speaker 3: I'm going to be honest with you. I was in
- 1:15Speaker 3: the car. There were white people present, so I tried
- 1:17Speaker 3: my hardest not to play anything with the N-word because
- 1:19Speaker 3: if they sang along, now I've got to slap the
- 1:20Speaker 3: shit out of you. You've got to leave them in
- 1:22Speaker 3: court sight or blight. So there was a lot of
- 1:24Speaker 3: Sabrina Carpenter. Okay. There was a lot of Chappelle Roan.
- 1:29Speaker 3: That's what I'm calling her.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Yeah, that works.
- 1:33Speaker 3: You know, stuff like that. Miss Rachel. I don't know.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Oh, some Miss Rachel.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Okay, cute.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Of course. For the kids.
- 1:38Speaker 3: No, no kids. No kids.
- 1:42Speaker 2: So you have.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Been a favorite in a future here at the Big
- 1:47Speaker 1: Pine Comedy Festival. Tell us about what you were doing
- 1:49Speaker 1: today and what's going on at the festival.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Today was a fun day. I am here technically as staff.
- 1:58Speaker 3: So today I ran a trivia. I do a lot
- 2:03Speaker 3: of the comedy education. Like tomorrow I'm doing a panel
- 2:05Speaker 3: on booking terms, how to understand your deals, how to
- 2:08Speaker 3: get better deals, things of that nature.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I love Big Pine. I always have a good time here.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I haven't hit the stage yet. This go around, I
- 2:16Speaker 3: hit the stage tomorrow as far as performing. So very
- 2:19Speaker 3: excited about that. It's been fun to sit back, but
- 2:22Speaker 3: I also, I'm like a busy body. So it's also
- 2:24Speaker 3: been very difficult for me to not just grab the
- 2:27Speaker 3: mic and be like, I'll do it. And it's like,
- 2:29Speaker 3: you're actually not doing it.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yeah. I feel like one of the first times I
- 2:33Speaker 1: met you, it was maybe one of the comedy camps
- 2:35Speaker 1: or at a panel.
- 2:36Speaker 2: And I appreciate it.
- 2:38Speaker 1: One thing I really like about the club and the
- 2:40Speaker 1: festival is that it is very like education and sharing
- 2:43Speaker 1: information and resources. But I remember one time you were like,
- 2:47Speaker 1: are y'all paying attention? You like, you know, like, did
- 2:49Speaker 1: you guys write that down to the comics that were
- 2:51Speaker 1: kind of like, I don't know, like looking at their phone.
- 2:54Speaker 2: It's like, this is great information.
- 2:55Speaker 3: You were guys like, you don't, I just, I don't
- 2:57Speaker 3: do well with wasting people's time. And it's like, don't
- 3:00Speaker 3: come out here just to show face. You're going to
- 3:03Speaker 3: come out here. If you're going to come to the panels, um,
- 3:05Speaker 3: then absorb the information that's being given from people who
- 3:08Speaker 3: are actually doing it. It's always interesting. I participated in
- 3:12Speaker 3: the festival as a participant back in 2021. But when
- 3:16Speaker 3: I started coming back to help and doing comedy camps
- 3:18Speaker 3: and came back as staff or whatever you want to
- 3:20Speaker 3: call it, it's always interesting the way comics treat me
- 3:25Speaker 3: because they just assume, oh, she's just the help or
- 3:28Speaker 3: she's just this, she's just that. And then I'll do
- 3:31Speaker 3: a show and it's like, oh, it's like, yeah, big oh.
- 3:34Speaker 3: But you've already given me your first impression.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:36Speaker 3: So I'm cool.
- 3:37Speaker 1: They've already shown themselves.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yeah, interesting. So speaking of you being a badass, can
- 3:45Speaker 1: you tell us about your, you have a special.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I have a comedy special on Amazon Prime right now.
- 3:51Speaker 3: It's called Smam. It's also an album, which was considered
- 3:54Speaker 3: for a Grammy. Hell yeah. So very excited about that.
- 3:57Speaker 3: My next special, I'll be shooting that. on Friday, May
- 4:01Speaker 3: 8th as part of the Netflix is a joke festival.
- 4:03Speaker 2: That is very exciting.
- 4:04Speaker 3: I saw that.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Congratulations.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Oh, I'm very excited about that. And I'm also on
- 4:09Speaker 3: a new show on Netflix called funny as fuck with
- 4:12Speaker 3: Kevin Hart, which is a standup competition series, which will
- 4:15Speaker 3: premiere on four 20. Why not? Have a comedy show
- 4:17Speaker 3: that premieres on the biggest day of my life.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Yeah. So if people didn't already have plans for 420,
- 4:23Speaker 1: because this may come out around then. Yeah.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Now they have something else to do is to watch.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Watch you kill it.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Roll up.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Watch it. Is this the camera? Roll up.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Look at both of them.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Maybe I'm going to say it more than once so
- 4:35Speaker 3: you can cut. I know how this works. I know
- 4:36Speaker 3: how to cut. You roll up and you watch me
- 4:39Speaker 3: on 420. Do you understand me? And you roll up
- 4:42Speaker 3: and you watch me on 420. That's right. I'm bilingual, quattro, venti.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Do you understand me? I know how to speak it.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Respect me. That's right.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I like it.
- 4:53Speaker 3: I get very serious.
- 4:55Speaker 1: No, we can cut that, I think, as a promo
- 4:56Speaker 1: for you, too.
- 4:57Speaker 3: I think so.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I like it.
- 5:02Speaker 3: I look everybody in the eye. I know.
- 5:03Speaker 2: I appreciate that.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Do you have some advice for comics that are maybe
- 5:09Speaker 1: attending this festival for the first time?
- 5:11Speaker 3: Soak it all up. If you're attending this festival for
- 5:13Speaker 3: the first time, come to everything. Even if you feel
- 5:17Speaker 3: like you know it already. Number one, there's nothing wrong
- 5:22Speaker 3: with reiterating. There's nothing wrong with refreshing. You know what
- 5:25Speaker 3: I'm saying? But there's also nothing wrong with the people
- 5:29Speaker 3: throwing this festival for the industry to see that, oh,
- 5:32Speaker 3: you actually care because you're out and not out and
- 5:35Speaker 3: texting and not out and looking off to the distance.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Like you're out, you're attentive. Listen, I grew up in
- 5:40Speaker 3: the black church. I can look very attentive and not
- 5:43Speaker 3: give a damn. It's just about I am real good
- 5:45Speaker 3: at the.
- 5:50Speaker 2: If you're listening.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Ask me what I was thinking about just now. Yeah.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Not a damn thing.
- 5:54Speaker 1: We had a good furrowed brow going on.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Looking a lot of.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Furrowed brow.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Gazing deep into.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Deep thought.
- 6:00Speaker 3: And then in the middle as well.
- 6:02Speaker 2: But you were elsewhere.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Elsewhere. But you wouldn't have known that. Yeah. I do
- 6:06Speaker 3: that all the time. That's why I'm in a successful relationship.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I love that. Because she'll be like. That's the secret.
- 6:10Speaker 3: And I'm like. I'm looking. Deep furrowed. And every now
- 6:13Speaker 3: and then I get a. Uh huh. And I'll be like. What?
- 6:16Speaker 3: And you don't know what you agreed to. And I
- 6:17Speaker 3: just pray that it's not like. Are you hungry? Are
- 6:19Speaker 3: you hungry? and then I'm like what I'm so sorry
- 6:23Speaker 3: I just had so much on my mind and you
- 6:24Speaker 3: agreed to go.
- 6:25Speaker 1: To like a Sabrina Carpenter concert.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Like let's listen I'm not doing it okay but no
- 6:31Speaker 3: all jokes aside come out soak up everything and meet
- 6:34Speaker 3: people you know people always feel like you have to
- 6:37Speaker 3: network up network laterally yeah agreed and so many comics
- 6:43Speaker 3: that I've met through Big Pine run their own shows
- 6:47Speaker 3: are bookers at different clubs and things like that so
- 6:50Speaker 3: You know, it's just like you never know who's next
- 6:52Speaker 3: to you. Treat everybody kind. That part. Don't come here
- 6:55Speaker 3: with those types of, oh, I'm going to get. Like,
- 6:57Speaker 3: just treat everybody kind. Be funny. And everything will come
- 7:01Speaker 3: to you that needs to come to you.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Agreed.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Especially the be kind part.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Yes.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I feel like that's a big part of it, too,
- 7:06Speaker 1: just being here.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Right.
- 7:08Speaker 2: The networking feels more natural.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I think sometimes, I know for me as a comic,
- 7:12Speaker 1: it's like putting that word on it.
- 7:14Speaker 2: It feels fake and stuffy.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:17Speaker 2: But just connecting with other comics and like, oh, I'm
- 7:19Speaker 2: going to be in your city. I would love to
- 7:21Speaker 2: hang out.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Or, oh, I can get you on a show.
- 7:24Speaker 3: I'll show you around.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Super easy.
- 7:26Speaker 1: It feels nice to have more of a natural... I
- 7:30Speaker 1: don't know why. Just putting the networking on it feels
- 7:32Speaker 1: like we should be.
- 7:33Speaker 3: On LinkedIn and stuffy for it. I understand what you mean.
- 7:37Speaker 2: I noticed also you were a Just for Laughs.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Yes, I was a Just for Laughs New Face 2022.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Would you say that that came from... your experience or
- 7:48Speaker 1: attending the festival here? Were you already on track?
- 7:51Speaker 2: How long have you.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Do you know what's... It's funny that you say that.
- 7:53Speaker 1: What's up? I.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Yeah. Broken Drift is the reason I got into Just
- 7:57Speaker 3: for Laughs. So... In, like, September, August of 2021, I
- 8:04Speaker 3: did a festival called the Sacktown Comedy Get Down, which
- 8:07Speaker 3: is also put on by Broken Drift, based out of
- 8:10Speaker 3: Laughs Unlimited. I grew up not far from Sacramento, and
- 8:14Speaker 3: even though... I am a comedian from Northern California. I
- 8:17Speaker 3: was not a Northern California comic. I started in Atlanta
- 8:20Speaker 3: where I went to college, moved to LA. And around
- 8:23Speaker 3: the time of the pandemic, I went back home for
- 8:26Speaker 3: a while because who knew what the hell was going
- 8:28Speaker 3: to happen. And I wanted to perform at Laughs. Prior
- 8:33Speaker 3: to the pandemic, I had done a guest set on
- 8:36Speaker 3: a show with Lance. And after that, the owner of Laughs, Jenny...
- 8:43Speaker 3: You know, she was like, oh, send me your information.
- 8:45Speaker 3: I waited a few days, sent it to her, waited
- 8:47Speaker 3: a few days too long. By that point, I was
- 8:49Speaker 3: out of her radar, wasn't thinking about me. Excuse me
- 8:52Speaker 3: one moment.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I'm so sorry.
- 8:55Speaker 3: It's okay. Excuse me for that. I was off her radar.
- 8:58Speaker 3: So when I went back home a few months later, pandemic,
- 9:01Speaker 3: they started doing the outdoor shows. She was doing silent comedy, like,
- 9:07Speaker 3: you know, spread out outside on Front Street and blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 9:11Speaker 3: So I did a few of those, and then I
- 9:13Speaker 3: saw Sacktown Comedy Get Down. I had never even done
- 9:16Speaker 3: a comedy festival before. I didn't know anything about comedy festivals.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Wow.
- 9:19Speaker 3: But I'm like, I want to get on this show
- 9:21Speaker 3: because I'm tired of this lady not booking me after
- 9:23Speaker 3: she told me she was going to book me.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Called out, Janine.
- 9:28Speaker 3: No, no, because there's a lesson in this. Yeah, it's true.
- 9:30Speaker 3: I do the Sacktown Comedy Get Down, and every show
- 9:33Speaker 3: that she had me on, she had me close out
- 9:34Speaker 3: the show. Oh, okay. And so I'm like, she obviously
- 9:37Speaker 3: likes me.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 9:38Speaker 3: And I asked her. I had the balls to ask her.
- 9:39Speaker 3: I'm like, hey, you never... wrote me back after you
- 9:42Speaker 3: told me to write you. Like, what's going on? And
- 9:44Speaker 3: she was like, well, what did I tell you? I
- 9:45Speaker 3: was like, you told me to write you. She was like,
- 9:46Speaker 3: what did I tell you? I said, you told me
- 9:48Speaker 3: to write you. She was like, when? I was like,
- 9:49Speaker 3: you told me to write you. And I just kind
- 9:51Speaker 3: of stopped. She's like, you got to understand, I'd never
- 9:53Speaker 3: worked with you before. If you wait three, four days,
- 9:55Speaker 3: that's six to eight shows and probably 20 comics.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Wow.
- 10:00Speaker 3: I'm not going to waste my time Googling you to
- 10:02Speaker 3: remember if I really told you that or not and blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 10:04Speaker 3: So I just took it as a loss. And I'm like,
- 10:07Speaker 3: from that point forward, when somebody asked me to do something,
- 10:10Speaker 3: I do it.
- 10:11Speaker 4: Wow.
- 10:11Speaker 3: So Sacktown Comedy Get Down rolls around. A month later
- 10:14Speaker 3: is Big Pine, which at the time was in House
- 10:16Speaker 3: of Comedy, Phoenix.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:18Speaker 3: This did not exist yet. Well, not as Mic Drop.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Right.
- 10:21Speaker 3: And so I sent Hillary an email because she wasn't
- 10:24Speaker 3: at the Sacktown Comedy Get Down. I was just like, hey,
- 10:26Speaker 3: thank you so much. Wish I could have met you.
- 10:28Speaker 3: She sends me a message back like, I have a
- 10:30Speaker 3: feeling we'll be meeting each other. I come and do
- 10:32Speaker 3: Big Pine. This is like October 2021. Jenny reaches out
- 10:38Speaker 3: to me because I got Best of Fest and one
- 10:40Speaker 3: of my prizes was a headlining night. And she was like, well,
- 10:43Speaker 3: I haven't seen you do 45 yet. How about this?
- 10:46Speaker 3: She was like, how about I have you feature... And
- 10:48Speaker 3: then I have you come headline. That's two paid opportunities.
- 10:51Speaker 3: I said, sure, why not? I go out and I
- 10:53Speaker 3: feature at the top of 2020. World is still open.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Or excuse me, 2022, top of 2022. Jenny sends me
- 11:01Speaker 3: a message in like March, April of 22. And she's like, hey,
- 11:07Speaker 3: I need you to send me a five minute set.
- 11:08Speaker 3: My first thought was I've already, why do you need
- 11:12Speaker 3: me to send you a set? But I've learned from
- 11:15Speaker 3: her in the past. I was like, okay, so I'm,
- 11:17Speaker 3: Struggling trying to get this set down to five minutes.
- 11:19Speaker 3: She said, just send me what you have. I sent
- 11:21Speaker 3: it to her. Never heard anything back from her. The
- 11:24Speaker 3: day I shot my special, June 30th, 2022, I get
- 11:29Speaker 3: a phone call from Canada. Oh, my gosh. I ignore
- 11:32Speaker 3: the call. The person calls me back because I'm about
- 11:35Speaker 3: to shoot in an hour. I ignore the call.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Calls me back a third time. I pick up. I'm annoyed. hey,
- 11:41Speaker 3: do you know Jennifer Canfield? And I'm thinking like, oh
- 11:43Speaker 3: my God, is she dead? Like, what do you mean
- 11:45Speaker 3: do I know Jennifer? You're saying first, like, am I
- 11:46Speaker 3: next of kin? What's happening? And she's like, oh no,
- 11:50Speaker 3: my name is such and such. I'm the booker for
- 11:53Speaker 3: JFL New Faces. I was sitting next to Jenny a
- 11:56Speaker 3: few months ago when you sent her that video. And
- 12:00Speaker 3: because we all know who Jenny is and how she is,
- 12:03Speaker 3: it wasn't a recommendation that that lady took lightly. And
- 12:06Speaker 3: she was like, if you'd like, I'm offering you the
- 12:08Speaker 3: last spot on JFL. I had, I did not audition
- 12:11Speaker 3: for JFL. I did not, I don't know anything. I
- 12:14Speaker 3: did not even learn about the audition process for DFL
- 12:17Speaker 3: until two years later when I started hosting the auditions.
- 12:20Speaker 3: So a month later I was on a flight to
- 12:22Speaker 3: Montreal and the rest was history.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I love this story.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:27Speaker 3: There's nothing I won't do for, for Jenny or broken drift.
- 12:30Speaker 3: That's amazing.
- 12:31Speaker 1: And I feel like also a lot of great lessons
- 12:34Speaker 1: and advice in there.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Absolutely. Absolutely. Cause I know they have stuff going like, Yes.
- 12:40Speaker 3: You know, even at the end of this festival, when
- 12:42Speaker 3: you go home, when you get back to your hotel,
- 12:44Speaker 3: your Airbnb, whatever, send those thank you emails. Thank you
- 12:47Speaker 3: so much. It was nice to meet you today. That's simple. Yes. Simple. Yeah.
- 12:50Speaker 3: I know.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I'll, like, freeze.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, I got to wait until I get
- 12:54Speaker 1: a better clip. I want to have the perfect. And it's, like,
- 12:56Speaker 1: just a simple. It was so great talking to you.
- 12:58Speaker 1: I really enjoyed the panel.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Hope to see you again.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 13:02Speaker 2: So much good advice in there. And what a great story.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:06Speaker 3: I love it. It's one of my favorite stories to
- 13:08Speaker 3: tell because. Just, again, just do as you say and
- 13:12Speaker 3: just do your job.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I really, I love that.
- 13:15Speaker 1: And I know Alison Cohn is somebody. That's who called. Yeah,
- 13:21Speaker 1: that is regularly. I don't know if she's here this year.
- 13:23Speaker 3: She's not here this year.
- 13:25Speaker 1: But regularly at the comedy camps here and at the festival.
- 13:29Speaker 3: But, I mean, going back to, again, relationships. I mean,
- 13:32Speaker 3: Allison and I have been acquainted since 2022. I mean,
- 13:36Speaker 3: since then, there have been other major festivals and opportunities
- 13:39Speaker 3: that I've gotten because Allison just called me straight up.
- 13:41Speaker 3: The show Funny As Fuck with Kevin Hart on Netflix.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Allison reached out to me two weeks before the announcement
- 13:48Speaker 3: went out that they were casting and was like, I'm
- 13:50Speaker 3: working on this new show for Netflix. Kevin Hart is involved.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Do you want in before they announce? Not like I
- 13:56Speaker 3: got it, but send me your material. I sent it
- 14:00Speaker 3: to her. Here we are.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Man, that is a cool story. Yeah, you get an
- 14:04Speaker 1: applause over there from the producer. That's a cool-ass story.
- 14:08Speaker 2: We love it.
- 14:09Speaker 1: And a lot of that, I feel like, comes from
- 14:11Speaker 1: a lot of the good advice that we get at
- 14:13Speaker 1: the comedy camps and the panels of, like, you don't
- 14:16Speaker 1: got to be bothering them, but to stay on their
- 14:19Speaker 1: mind and to be professional and.
- 14:21Speaker 2: To have good-ass material.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Thousand percent.
- 14:23Speaker 2: And to be a nice person.
- 14:24Speaker 1: It's like, check, check, check.
- 14:25Speaker 3: And I'm not even nice. You feel me?
- 14:28Speaker 2: You were trying to pick a fight with me earlier, but...
- 14:30Speaker 2: It is hot out there.
- 14:31Speaker 3: For those listening, I'm looking at you.
- 14:35Speaker 1: We're going to make a transition to the trivia, and
- 14:36Speaker 1: I hope you're going to stay mostly nice with me.
- 14:38Speaker 2: I did pick out some good.
- 14:40Speaker 3: I'm excited. Let's do it.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I mean, Carlos wrote these questions, but I picked a week.
- 14:44Speaker 1: I feel like you're going to like these. The 90s
- 14:49Speaker 1: R & B girl group, SWV. Yes. What do the
- 14:53Speaker 1: letters SWV?
- 14:54Speaker 2: Yes, thank you.
- 14:55Speaker 1: That is one point.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Ding, ding, ding. Use your heart and not your eyes. Baby,
- 15:01Speaker 3: just relax.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Oh, they're singing.
- 15:04Speaker 3: We got the producers. Yeah.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Oh, we got both producers singing along.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Oh, shoot.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Oh, we got a good stank face. Kalia, you do
- 15:14Speaker 1: have an excellent stank face.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Use your heart and not your.
- 15:20Speaker 4: Eyes.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Man.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Okay.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Thank you for complimenting my face?
- 15:28Speaker 1: No, the good, nasty stank face.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 15:31Speaker 2: I mean that millennial.
- 15:33Speaker 3: That's a compliment. I practice my facial contortions.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I mean, it pays off.
- 15:37Speaker 4: I do.
- 15:38Speaker 3: True story.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Another music-related question.
- 15:41Speaker 4: Yes.
- 15:42Speaker 1: In 1992, Whitney Houston went to the top of the
- 15:46Speaker 1: music charts with which Dolly Parton song?
- 15:51Speaker 3: I Will Always Love You.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Yes. Are we going to get this one, too?
- 15:54Speaker 4: Oh.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Doom. And I will always love you.
- 16:06Speaker 2: I wasn't sure where you were going to pick it
- 16:07Speaker 2: up from.
- 16:07Speaker 3: You can't tell, but my jaw is trembling.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Because that's what Whitney did.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 16:13Speaker 2: I wasn't sure where you were going to pick it
- 16:14Speaker 2: up from. If I should stay.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Hey! I still.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Regularly play that soundtrack.
- 16:27Speaker 3: It is so good. Hey!
- 16:34Speaker 1: Yes.
- 16:37Speaker 2: You know my favorite song from that soundtrack?
- 16:39Speaker 3: I almost got the Holy Spirit, Black Moment. Go ahead.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Queen of the Night is mine. I love that song.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Sing it then. No, I can't.
- 16:45Speaker 2: I got too shy.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Okay, fine. But that's like before, if I need to
- 16:48Speaker 1: get hyped up before I go on stage.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Queen of the Night? Queen of the Night.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good one.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Okay, what's the next? Throw them out.
- 16:53Speaker 2: I'm two for two.
- 16:54Speaker 3: I love it.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Another music-related question.
- 16:56Speaker 3: Okay.
- 16:57Speaker 1: These are easy peasy. Before embarking on a solo career,
- 17:01Speaker 1: Beyonce was part of which group? If you get this wrong, Kalia...
- 17:05Speaker 1: We're sending you home.
- 17:06Speaker 3: You're kicked out of the festival. She wasn't an adult.
- 17:09Speaker 3: She wasn't an adolescent. She was a child, honey, and
- 17:13Speaker 3: a child of destiny. You understand me? Destiny's child. All
- 17:17Speaker 3: my women. Independent. Throw your hands up at me. Is
- 17:22Speaker 3: my vibe too vibalacious for your babe? Pay my bills, bills, bills.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Fuck you talking about?
- 17:26Speaker 2: I don't know what I would have done if you got.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Anybody had gotten that question wrong.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Kick them out.
- 17:33Speaker 2: You're off the festival. I'd be like, Hillary, I need
- 17:35Speaker 2: to talk to you.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Right now.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Casey, we need to ban them from the club. They
- 17:38Speaker 2: need to quit comedy.
- 17:39Speaker 3: From life, quite honestly.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Okay, here we got one for you. Living in California,
- 17:43Speaker 1: I believe you're from the Bay Area. You live in,
- 17:45Speaker 1: you told me, Inglewood. What is California's state animal?
- 17:48Speaker 3: The bear.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Do you know what kind of bear?
- 17:50Speaker 3: The golden bear.
- 17:52Speaker 1: The grizzly bear.
- 17:53Speaker 3: The grizzly bear. Cal, UC Berkeley.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, he is golden on the flag. Eureka! Eureka!
- 18:00Speaker 3: Gavin Newsom. Arnold Schwarzenegger from one time.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Gray Davis.
- 18:06Speaker 2: I love the variety of questions.
- 18:08Speaker 1: So Carlos either goes super difficult and obscure, like weird
- 18:13Speaker 1: sports questions.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Or here we go. Number five is how often are
- 18:16Speaker 2: the Summer Olympics held?
- 18:18Speaker 3: Every quattro years. C. Cuatro Años. I actually just got
- 18:25Speaker 3: tickets to the 2028 LA Games. I'm very excited about that.
- 18:29Speaker 3: I'm going to a couple of women's basketball games.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Hell yeah.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Are you a big WNBA fan?
- 18:33Speaker 3: I'm alright. I've been losing weight, so I'm not that
- 18:36Speaker 3: big of a WNBA fan. Thanks for bringing that up.
- 18:40Speaker 3: We got a good team here, the Mercury. They're really good.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I'm getting into the WNBA.
- 18:45Speaker 3: I do go to Sparks games from time to time.
- 18:46Speaker 3: I'm a huge, absurdly huge Laker fan, though.
- 18:50Speaker 1: True story.
- 18:50Speaker 3: I mean, I'm talking about calm down. You're not on
- 18:53Speaker 3: the court.
- 18:54Speaker 1: What franchise?
- 18:55Speaker 2: What year are we talking? Or just through and through?
- 18:57Speaker 3: I mean, I am through and through, and it's difficult
- 19:01Speaker 3: being that. I feel that.
- 19:03Speaker 2: I'm a Suns fan, I know.
- 19:04Speaker 3: You get me.
- 19:05Speaker 2: It hurts sometimes.
- 19:06Speaker 3: My favorite era, you know, we got Robert Ori, Derek Fisher,
- 19:10Speaker 3: of course, Kobe, Shaq, Rick Fox, fine ass.
- 19:15Speaker 2: He is beautiful.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Are you listening? Or are you watching? Because you fine
- 19:19Speaker 3: as hell, Rick Fox. Rick is a fox. Phil Jackson
- 19:24Speaker 3: type shit.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Did you watch, what was the Lakers show on HBO? Yeah.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Winning Time. Winning Time. I did. It was very good.
- 19:31Speaker 2: It was really good.
- 19:32Speaker 3: It was very good. It sucks that it ended so abruptly.
- 19:35Speaker 4: I know.
- 19:36Speaker 3: It was very good.
- 19:36Speaker 2: I did enjoy that. So you're talking, you mentioned Shaq.
- 19:39Speaker 3: I did.
- 19:41Speaker 1: We're talking, that's probably like mid to early 2000s, I think.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Because we're here in Phoenix and the sun's gone. Shaq
- 19:51Speaker 1: later in his career. Correct.
- 19:53Speaker 2: The Diesel.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Shaq, as a little girl, I don't know how this happened,
- 19:57Speaker 3: but Shaq was my favorite NBA player for a moment.
- 20:01Speaker 3: I had an Orlando Magic Shaq doll that I used
- 20:05Speaker 3: to sleep with and left it. At the hotel when
- 20:10Speaker 3: we went on Disney trip. Change the subject and change
- 20:11Speaker 3: it quickly.
- 20:12Speaker 1: All right, we're going to go to the next question.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Change the subject, change it quickly.
- 20:14Speaker 1: The Hollywood sign originally spelled out what word?
- 20:18Speaker 3: Ho-wood.
- 20:21Speaker 2: No, not that.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Holly-land. Hollywood-land. Yeah, we got it.
- 20:25Speaker 2: We got it. Applause from the producers.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I like it.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Thank you. Thank you, everyone. Please calm down. Thank you.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Question number seven.
- 20:33Speaker 1: She's killing it. The actor, this actor, notably starred in
- 20:38Speaker 1: the TV sitcoms How I Met Your Mother and Doogie Howser, M.D.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Oh, my God. What is his name?
- 20:44Speaker 1: I know him.
- 20:45Speaker 3: I know Doogie. I'm picturing his face. That was a
- 20:47Speaker 3: cute show.
- 20:48Speaker 4: I wonder if you can stream that anywhere. That was
- 20:51Speaker 4: a cute show. And he's gay. He was also in
- 20:55Speaker 4: Starship Troopers. Love Starship Troopers.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Doogie Howser. He's gay.
- 21:02Speaker 1: We're doing a phone the friend. Here we got Hillary.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Looking stylish as always.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Because it's not Neil Patrick Harris.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:11Speaker 3: It is Neil Patrick Harris.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Neil Patrick Harris.
- 21:13Speaker 2: We got the assist from Hillary.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Hold on.
- 21:14Speaker 3: We said it at the same time, though. I just
- 21:16Speaker 3: needed Hillary's energy.
- 21:17Speaker 1: No, you crushed it. I'm very generous with points here.
- 21:21Speaker 1: I'll get good for effort.
- 21:22Speaker 3: I've been killing it.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:26Speaker 2: We're crushing it.
- 21:27Speaker 3: I feel good. Here we go.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Another film question for you. Actor Jim Carrey first made
- 21:35Speaker 1: a name for himself on which comedy show?
- 21:42Speaker 3: In Living Color. You can do what you want to do.
- 21:47Speaker 3: In Living Color.
- 21:50Speaker 1: In Living Color.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Everybody here is equally fine. Use your heart and not
- 21:57Speaker 3: your mind. Live in color.
- 22:00Speaker 1: These are all questions had you got them wrong.
- 22:02Speaker 3: If you're listening, you're missing out because I'm hip thrusting.
- 22:04Speaker 1: She's throwing ass.
- 22:05Speaker 3: I was just popping pussy just now. She was. Hello.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Put that on the YouTube. Put it on the YouTube.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Okay, then blur out the word pussy.
- 22:14Speaker 1: No, we've been saying it all day.
- 22:15Speaker 3: I was popping pee.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Are you out of breath?
- 22:18Speaker 2: You're good. I feel like you could go.
- 22:22Speaker 1: This one's a little tricky.
- 22:23Speaker 2: This is a different one from Carlos Rodriguez.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Shout out to him.
- 22:27Speaker 2: What do you call a group of porcupines?
- 22:37Speaker 1: A bustle.
- 22:38Speaker 3: A bustle.
- 22:39Speaker 2: I like a bustle.
- 22:41Speaker 3: A bustle.
- 22:42Speaker 2: A smorgasbord.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Oh, God.
- 22:45Speaker 3: I'm stressed now. Okay. Okay. You want to finally make
- 22:48Speaker 3: me get one wrong. Okay. It's not a bustle. A
- 22:52Speaker 3: group of porcupines.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I did not know this one.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Hella porcupines. Is it called hella porcupines?
- 22:59Speaker 2: I mean, it could be.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Heck of porcupines.
- 23:04Speaker 1: I do think, I mean, the question is worded, what
- 23:06Speaker 1: do you call a group of porcupines?
- 23:08Speaker 2: I feel like.
- 23:09Speaker 3: If I saw a group of porcupines, I'd be like,
- 23:11Speaker 3: god damn, really?
- 23:12Speaker 2: Hella porcupines.
- 23:14Speaker 1: You know, the real answer is a prickle.
- 23:17Speaker 2: But I feel like.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I feel, okay, our producer Eliana was going to come
- 23:23Speaker 1: up with that one.
- 23:23Speaker 3: A prickle of porcupines.
- 23:24Speaker 1: The question is worded. To be fair, it says, what
- 23:27Speaker 1: do you call a group of porcupines?
- 23:29Speaker 3: Hella porcupines. I mean, I'll give her. Hella prickles.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Some prickly motherfuckers.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Hella prickles. I say that.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Question number 10. Which number does every major league baseball
- 23:42Speaker 1: player wear on April 15th?
- 23:45Speaker 3: On Jackie Robinson Day.
- 23:47Speaker 4: Oh.
- 23:48Speaker 3: What was Jackie Robinson's number? Fuck. I'm going to lose
- 23:54Speaker 3: a black card for this.
- 23:55Speaker 2: No, these are all.
- 23:56Speaker 3: I'm very aware. I immediately knew it was Jackie Robinson Day.
- 23:59Speaker 4: Yes.
- 24:00Speaker 3: From the Brooklyn Dodgers.
- 24:01Speaker 2: How many points does Kalia have right now?
- 24:03Speaker 3: I've gotten all but one.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:05Speaker 3: I know.
- 24:06Speaker 1: We're very generous with points.
- 24:08Speaker 2: I'm like, you tried hard.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Jackie Robinson wasn't 21.
- 24:10Speaker 1: No.
- 24:11Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no.
- 24:15Speaker 4: Shit, man.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Honestly, I don't remember Jackie Robinson's number. It was 21. No.
- 24:21Speaker 2: But, like, double that.
- 24:25Speaker 1: 42?
- 24:25Speaker 2: Yeah, 42.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Excuse me. My Kobe wore 8. I'm going to come
- 24:30Speaker 3: over this table on you right now.
- 24:31Speaker 1: We just gave a shout-out to the early 2000s Lakers.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Rest in peace, Kobe Bryant. She's starting fights.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Put your arm up because I'm about to jump on
- 24:42Speaker 3: this man.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Um... So I think that's the first time anybody's gotten,
- 24:46Speaker 1: I would say, 11 out of 10.
- 24:49Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 24:50Speaker 1: We're making Mic Drop Comedy Podcast history here at Big
- 24:53Speaker 1: Pine Comedy Fest.
- 24:54Speaker 2: I love it.
- 24:55Speaker 3: I am Mic Drop.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Kalia, this has been very nice getting to chat with you.
- 24:58Speaker 3: I should be. It was nice to chat with you all, too.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Where can people keep up with what you're doing?
- 25:04Speaker 3: Kaliamcneil.com. Spell it with two L's. Kaliamcneil has two L's
- 25:09Speaker 3: at the end. Kaliamcneil.com. At whatever, Kalia, across all platforms.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Join my email list. And I'm telling you this, I'm
- 25:17Speaker 3: not a spammer. I don't have time for it. Punchup.live
- 25:22Speaker 3: slash Kalia McNeil gives you if I'm in your area.
- 25:25Speaker 3: You only hear from me if I'm in your area.
- 25:27Speaker 1: I love that.
- 25:27Speaker 3: And it's just a quick, I'm in your area.
- 25:29Speaker 2: This is the link.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:31Speaker 3: You can't even respond. Because I don't want to answer it.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Remind everybody what is going down on 420.
- 25:36Speaker 1: 420.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Funny as fuck with Kevin Hart on Netflix.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:41Speaker 3: If you're in the Los Angeles area, May 8th, come
- 25:43Speaker 3: out to my Netflix is a Joke show at the

- 25:48Speaker 1: Amazing.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Second special.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Congratulations.
- 25:50Speaker 3: This is so cool.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Thank you so much for joining us.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Thank you very much.
- 25:53Speaker 2: We will see you guys next time.
- 25:54Speaker 3: In La Vagada. You can do what you want.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Bye. Bye.
