- 0:23Speaker 1: Hi, this is Hank Hennigrath, president of the Christian Research
- 0:25Speaker 1: Institute and host of the Hank Unplugged podcast. This podcast...
- 0:32Speaker 1: is the last in a series, at least for the
- 0:35Speaker 1: time being, on the horrors of Sharia law. In previous podcasts,
- 0:44Speaker 1: I demonstrate that no group is more harmed by Sharia
- 0:50Speaker 1: law than our women. And I went on to talk about,
- 0:54Speaker 1: in another podcast, the centrality of violent jihad in Sharia.
- 1:00Speaker 1: In today's podcast, I want to discuss what life would
- 1:05Speaker 1: be like in Western civilization if we were, even now,
- 1:11Speaker 1: under Sharia law. Now Christians and Jews don't have to
- 1:16Speaker 1: wonder about that. They don't have to wonder what life
- 1:19Speaker 1: in Western civilization might be like under Sharia law. Why?
- 1:26Speaker 1: Because they have already experienced it. They experienced it in Spain.
- 1:33Speaker 1: From the Islamic conquest back in 711 to its final
- 1:40Speaker 1: demise in the year 1492, religion was the law and
- 1:47Speaker 1: therefore Islam was the law. Now during this period, what
- 1:55Speaker 1: is surreptitiously described as the golden age of Islam, Sharia
- 2:02Speaker 1: dictated virtually every aspect of public and private life. Suffice
- 2:09Speaker 1: it to say, in the Andalusian paradise, there was no
- 2:15Speaker 1: separation between Sharia and state. Muslim clerics meticulously micromanaged virtually
- 2:24Speaker 1: every aspect of human behavior. And that includes whether something
- 2:30Speaker 1: touched by Christians could be used for ritual purposes, or
- 2:34Speaker 1: whether a child would even be allowed to enter a mosque.
- 2:39Speaker 1: In this, the supposed golden age of Islam, even musical
- 2:48Speaker 1: instruments were strictly forbidden, as well as singing. Where music
- 2:55Speaker 1: and singing did exist in Andalusia, It did so not
- 3:00Speaker 1: because of Sharia stipulations, but in spite of Sharia stipulations.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Had Islam prevailed in Western Europe, well, there would be
- 3:13Speaker 1: no Gregorian chant. There'd be no organs, no Bach, no Mozart,
- 3:19Speaker 1: no Beethoven, no symphonies, no operas, and heaven forbid the
- 3:25Speaker 1: possibility of jazz music. and also unlawful Islam were artistic
- 3:32Speaker 1: representations of human bodies, much less their dissection. Therefore, it
- 3:40Speaker 1: was not Muslims who paved the path towards modern medical achievements,
- 3:46Speaker 1: but Western thinkers. The plain, unadulterated fact is that Western
- 3:55Speaker 1: civilization thrived on the intellectual traditions that made medical and
- 4:00Speaker 1: mathematical achievements feasible. It was not Islam. And as far
- 4:07Speaker 1: as the freedom of religion is concerned, it simply didn't exist.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Very much like in Saudi Arabia or Iran today, Christians
- 4:18Speaker 1: under the control of Sharia were not permitted to celebrate
- 4:22Speaker 1: faith in the public square. In fact, the display of
- 4:25Speaker 1: crosses and the ringing of church bells were strictly forbidden.
- 4:31Speaker 1: And woe to anyone who dared proclaim that Jesus was
- 4:34Speaker 1: divine or Muhammad a false prophet. Far from a portrait
- 4:40Speaker 1: of Muslims and Jews and Christians living in the midst
- 4:43Speaker 1: of a peaceful and illusion paradise of tolerance, non-Muslims in
- 4:49Speaker 1: actuality were subjected by the severity The choice back then
- 4:58Speaker 1: was simple. Shahada, subjugation, or sword. Shahada, of course, being
- 5:06Speaker 1: the mandatory belief and confession that there's no God but
- 5:10Speaker 1: Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And were
- 5:14Speaker 1: it not for Christian discontent with the trappings of Spanish Sharia,
- 5:19Speaker 1: including their exhortation and their extortion as dimmies, their treatment
- 5:28Speaker 1: of women, the rank intolerance of anything other than doctrinaire Islam,
- 5:34Speaker 1: there would have been no reconquest. And if there was
- 5:37Speaker 1: no reconquest, Spain today would more resemble North Africa or
- 5:43Speaker 1: Iran than the Netherlands or Italy. In fact, if it
- 5:50Speaker 1: were not for Christian resistance and reconquest, Spain simply would not,
- 5:58Speaker 1: could not, have recaptured the richness of its heritage. Not
- 6:04Speaker 1: everyone is in line with what I'm talking about right now.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I think of former Republican presidential candidate, Carly Fiorina, who
- 6:15Speaker 1: was effusive in her espousal of medieval Islam. In her
- 6:20Speaker 1: considered judgment, Islamic civilization from the year 800 to 1600,
- 6:27Speaker 1: she said was the greatest in the world. She elaborated
- 6:31Speaker 1: by claiming that Islam was responsible for safekeeping the treasuries
- 6:36Speaker 1: of past knowledge, and then calls Islamic leadership enlightened. And
- 6:41Speaker 1: she's not alone. There are an endless number of modern politicians,
- 6:48Speaker 1: of professors, particularly professors, of pundits who seem bent on
- 6:54Speaker 1: perpetuating this narrative. I've talked in previous broadcasts about President
- 7:00Speaker 1: Barack Obama. He, for one, waxes eloquent regarding the proud
- 7:06Speaker 1: tradition of Islamic tolerance, and then he has gone so
- 7:11Speaker 1: far as to ominously warn Westerners against impeding Muslim citizens
- 7:17Speaker 1: from practicing religion as they see fit. Behind this rhetoric
- 7:24Speaker 1: lurks the ever-present specter of censorship. Because to question the
- 7:30Speaker 1: proud tradition of Sharia is now considered hostility. And to
- 7:37Speaker 1: impede Muslim citizens from practicing religion as they see fit, well,
- 7:43Speaker 1: it's characterized as Islamophobia. Obama could not have said it
- 7:50Speaker 1: more clearly. He said, Islam has a proud religious tradition
- 7:58Speaker 1: and that Muslims must be allowed to practice in the
- 8:02Speaker 1: West as they see fit. The problem with the premise
- 8:10Speaker 1: is that Islam is far more than a religion. I've
- 8:15Speaker 1: said it before and it bears repeating. It is a
- 8:19Speaker 1: comprehensive religion socio-economic, political juggernaut that rides on the very
- 8:26Speaker 1: rails of Sharia law. Far from being a bridge transmitting
- 8:33Speaker 1: ancient erudition and knowledge westward, Islam has and always will
- 8:40Speaker 1: pose a significant barrier. Were it not for the translation
- 8:47Speaker 1: work of Aramean and Christian the heritage of Athens and
- 8:53Speaker 1: Jerusalem would most certainly have died. It would have died
- 8:58Speaker 1: on the altar of Sharia dogmatism and is documented by
- 9:05Speaker 1: what I would call the venerable French historian Sylvain Guggenheim.
- 9:10Speaker 1: He was a venerable historian who said that Sharia jurisprudence
- 9:16Speaker 1: was largely antagonistic to the spirit of Greek civilization. And
- 9:21Speaker 1: I think what's noteworthy about Guggenheim is that he, as
- 9:27Speaker 1: few others in academia at the time, and even in
- 9:31Speaker 1: the present, was willing not only to follow the facts
- 9:36Speaker 1: toward whatever conclusion they might lead, but he was also
- 9:45Speaker 1: willing to suffer the wrath of self-loathing cultural elites And
- 9:52Speaker 1: so predictably, he was immediately branded. He was recast as Islamophobic.
- 9:59Speaker 1: He was recast and branded as racist. And then a
- 10:05Speaker 1: committee was convened to investigate his work. What did they find? Well,
- 10:14Speaker 1: in their opinion, his research was so threatening to the
- 10:21Speaker 1: educational establishment that an international collective of 56 researchers in
- 10:31Speaker 1: history and philosophy found it absolutely necessary to sign an
- 10:37Speaker 1: open letter and to publish it in a Marxist newspaper
- 10:43Speaker 1: attacking his work. And that was just the beginning. Not
- 10:50Speaker 1: one of the 56 academics, the ones who signed the
- 10:54Speaker 1: open letter, deemed it necessary to comment on the need
- 10:59Speaker 1: to demythologize the myth of an Andalusian paradise, or for
- 11:05Speaker 1: that matter, to comment on the draconian effect Sharia's had
- 11:11Speaker 1: on women in both medieval and modern history. And likewise,
- 11:18Speaker 1: no one thought it necessary to comment on Sharia mandates
- 11:23Speaker 1: that have produced 14 centuries of Islamic warfare. Where is
- 11:29Speaker 1: the outrage? Where is the dissent over the Muslims who
- 11:36Speaker 1: are being martyred for converting to Christianity? Or for the
- 11:42Speaker 1: Christians who are being martyred for criticizing Muhammad? In place
- 11:48Speaker 1: of anger, There's accommodation, a disposition among Western elites to
- 11:56Speaker 1: well appease. Some like Rowan Williams. Rowan Williams was the
- 12:02Speaker 1: former Archbishop of Canterbury. He was the most powerful person
- 12:07Speaker 1: in the Church of England. He went so far as
- 12:10Speaker 1: to suggest that British law should accommodate Sharia. And that
- 12:19Speaker 1: beginning with laws on finance and marriage. There was an
- 12:24Speaker 1: insightful short monograph. It was titled Sharia Law for the Non-Muslim.
- 12:32Speaker 1: And in that monograph, Bill Warner, the author, summed up
- 12:35Speaker 1: the dilemma facing Western civilization beginning with Europe. Let me
- 12:40Speaker 1: read that to you. This is what Bill Warner said.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Europe is witnessing a rise in Islamic supremacism and demands
- 12:55Speaker 1: for Sharia law and violent intimidation. Laws passed by European
- 13:03Speaker 1: states and resolutions in European universities and other organizations have
- 13:10Speaker 1: stifled free speech. And, he said, Sharia tribunals operate in
- 13:18Speaker 1: the UK, run by Islamists, who openly defend a man's
- 13:24Speaker 1: right to use violence against his wife. And in the UK,
- 13:30Speaker 1: as well as in Denmark, Sharia-controlled zones have been declared.
- 13:38Speaker 1: And in Germany, Sharia patrols Rome city streets, attempting to
- 13:45Speaker 1: to impose Sharia norms. And all the while, the establishment's
- 13:52Speaker 1: response shows more concern with preventing discussion of these facts
- 13:59Speaker 1: than in confronting them. And of course, what has already
- 14:05Speaker 1: happened in Europe is beginning to duplicate itself in the
- 14:09Speaker 1: United States of America. And while there is little likelihood
- 14:14Speaker 1: that Muslims in places like Iran and Saudi Arabia are
- 14:18Speaker 1: going to dispense with Sharia law, Western elites must come
- 14:23Speaker 1: to their senses. They must insist that Muslims abdicate Sharia
- 14:30Speaker 1: practices that militate against Western jurisprudence. Ayaan Hirsi Ali has
- 14:40Speaker 1: emphatically emphasized, under no circumstances should Western countries allow Muslims
- 14:47Speaker 1: to form self-governing enclaves in which women and other supposedly
- 14:53Speaker 1: second-class citizens can be treated in ways that actually belong
- 14:58Speaker 1: back in the 7th century. As a postscript to this podcast,
- 15:06Speaker 1: let me say this. According to Abdul El-Sayed, who's now
- 15:12Speaker 1: running for the Senate in the state of Michigan, those
- 15:16Speaker 1: who are seeking a ban on Sharia are the exact
- 15:20Speaker 1: same forces that drove native peoples from their lands. That's
- 15:26Speaker 1: the narrative. Moreover, on Jesse Waters' prime time, he asserted
- 15:32Speaker 1: that lawmakers going after Sharia law are quote, deliberately targeting
- 15:38Speaker 1: the Muslim community. All of this despite the fact that
- 15:44Speaker 1: as I demonstrated on a previous podcast, no group is
- 15:49Speaker 1: more harmed by Sharia law than are women. Plainly put,
- 15:54Speaker 1: Sharia law subjugates women in virtually every dimension of their lives.
- 16:00Speaker 1: According to Sharia, the world is divided into two domains.
- 16:07Speaker 1: It's the house of Islam or the house of war.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Those who already live under Sharia and those who are
- 16:14Speaker 1: predestined to Sharia subjugation. Islam is already the world's fastest
- 16:21Speaker 1: growing religion. And the Muslim masses, 1,600,000,000 strong and growing,
- 16:30Speaker 1: perhaps even larger than that right now. They're poised to
- 16:33Speaker 1: fill A vacuum that is left by a Western culture
- 16:37Speaker 1: slouching inexorably towards self-extinction. And that's precisely why I wrote
- 16:44Speaker 1: the book Muslim. What you need to know about the
- 16:48Speaker 1: world's fastest growing religion. This book is written in a
- 16:55Speaker 1: memorable format, in a user-friendly format, and it explains everything
- 17:01Speaker 1: about Islam. Even going to the extent of in an
- 17:06Speaker 1: appendix explaining how we have the Shia and the Sunni.
- 17:11Speaker 1: How did that come about? This book is available through
- 17:16Speaker 1: the Ministry of the Christian Research Institute. You can check
- 17:19Speaker 1: it out on the web at equip.org, or you can
- 17:22Speaker 1: write me at Post Office Box 8500, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28271.
- 17:29Speaker 1: And as always, if you enjoyed the podcast... and are
- 17:33Speaker 1: learning from the podcast, are being equipped by the podcast, rate, review, subscribe.
- 17:38Speaker 1: It helps a lot. Thanks for tuning in. We'll see
- 17:42Speaker 1: you next time with more.
