- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, we are joined now by U.S. Congresswoman Kat Kamek,
- 0:03Speaker 1: Florida's 3rd Congressional District. Okay, let's talk about something other
- 0:07Speaker 1: than an explosion underground.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Wow, good morning.
- 0:13Speaker 3: You were breaking the news to me, so hopefully everyone
- 0:16Speaker 3: is okay and that there's no injuries and certainly no fatalities, hopefully.
- 0:21Speaker 3: But yeah, thank goodness that I was hearing you talk
- 0:25Speaker 3: about your son and how he just drove past there.
- 0:28Speaker 3: just seconds before it happened. So thank goodness he's okay.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Yeah. We're, we are, we are grateful. All right. We
- 0:35Speaker 1: know what happened there. What you need to tell me
- 0:39Speaker 1: is what is or isn't happening right now in Washington
- 0:42Speaker 1: is everything pretty much like a campaign season. Nothing's getting done.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, unfortunately, Senate left.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Well, let's be fair.
- 0:53Speaker 3: The Senate and the House left with a lot of
- 0:56Speaker 3: work yet to be done. And it's really frustrating for
- 1:00Speaker 3: me because the Senate has proven to be quite useless
- 1:06Speaker 3: this go around. They left about 600 bills that the
- 1:11Speaker 3: House had passed on their doorstep to continue to collect dust.
- 1:15Speaker 2: And there was a number of things that could have
- 1:17Speaker 2: been done that would have improved the lives.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Of everyday Americans, and they chose not to. So there's
- 1:24Speaker 3: a saying, and I know both Democrats and Republicans share
- 1:27Speaker 3: this saying. So it goes a little something like the
- 1:32Speaker 3: Democrats are our opposition, but the Senate is our enemy.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Or if you're a Democrat, you say Republicans are our
- 1:37Speaker 3: opposition and the Senate is the enemy.
- 1:40Speaker 2: And that has never been more true than this year.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Kat, what's the lowest of the hanging fruit that they're
- 1:45Speaker 1: just leaving?
- 1:47Speaker 2: I mean, for Pete's sake, they couldn't even pass a
- 1:50Speaker 2: stock trading.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Ban for members of Congress and.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Simple photo ID. And, you know, I heard from some folks,
- 1:56Speaker 2: they said, oh.
- 1:58Speaker 3: There was there were things in it that they couldn't,
- 2:00Speaker 3: you know, wrap their head around. There were things in
- 2:03Speaker 3: it that were there was poison pills. And I'll tell you,
- 2:06Speaker 3: I read the bill. It was 16 pages and there
- 2:09Speaker 3: were no poison pills. So low hanging fruit. Yeah, it
- 2:12Speaker 3: was things like photo ID, insider trading prohibition.
- 2:17Speaker 2: There were things related to permitting reform that had been
- 2:20Speaker 2: worked through. I mean, there was any number of issues
- 2:24Speaker 2: that they could have picked up, and instead they chose
- 2:27Speaker 2: to focus on college sports. And don't get me wrong,
- 2:30Speaker 2: we have a mess with this.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Whole NIL deal, but does that take the priority of
- 2:34Speaker 3: bringing down the price of gas? No.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Joining me from Florida's third congressional district is U.S. Representative
- 2:47Speaker 1: Kat Kamik. Kat, we were just talking about things that
- 2:50Speaker 1: are stalled, roadblocked, left undone by primarily the Senate because
- 2:55Speaker 1: you mentioned hundreds, literally hundreds of bills passed in the
- 2:58Speaker 1: House that are just sitting there. Did I just see
- 3:01Speaker 1: correctly that there's even a fight now, even including some Republicans,
- 3:06Speaker 1: on daylight savings time?
- 3:11Speaker 3: Yes.
- 3:12Speaker 2: And I'll tell you, it's very telling when we passed
- 3:15Speaker 2: it out of the House. And this is just one
- 3:19Speaker 2: of those things where, you know, some people feel very
- 3:21Speaker 2: strongly about standard time or daylight savings time. But one
- 3:25Speaker 2: thing we can all agree on is that changing the
- 3:27Speaker 2: clocks twice a year is ridiculous. And so there's been
- 3:30Speaker 2: a real strong attempt.
- 3:31Speaker 3: To address this issue. And in the Senate, Marco Rubio
- 3:35Speaker 3: had carried that bill for a long time. And I
- 3:39Speaker 3: remember texting him after we passed in the House. I said, hey,
- 3:43Speaker 3: look at this. We're moving along. Your bill might actually
- 3:47Speaker 3: make it across the finish line. And he responded back, said,
- 3:50Speaker 3: if the Senate doesn't screw it up. And look at here.
- 3:54Speaker 3: They sure did. They had every opportunity to take up
- 3:57Speaker 3: the issue. And once again, they did not. It's like
- 4:00Speaker 3: they have an aversion or an allergic reaction to work.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I cannot... wrap my head around what they do all
- 4:09Speaker 3: day long over there in the Senate.
- 4:11Speaker 1: In this case, though, it's Republican Tom Cotton that seems
- 4:14Speaker 1: to be battling this thing, a Republican senator from Arkansas.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. And again, I'm not quite sure what his
- 4:22Speaker 3: opposition is. I believe he's, I think he's advocating for
- 4:25Speaker 3: standard time. But just to, not table, but to put
- 4:30Speaker 3: all this in perspective, when I go and talk to
- 4:33Speaker 3: people around north central Florida, Not once has anyone said, hey,
- 4:39Speaker 3: can you focus on getting rid of daylight savings time?
- 4:44Speaker 2: It's, hey, can you do something about the price of diesel?
- 4:46Speaker 3: Hey, can you make sure that the border is 100% secure? Hey,
- 4:50Speaker 3: can you make sure that we're going after these crazy
- 4:54Speaker 3: insurance companies? companies that are, you know, dropping plans and
- 4:58Speaker 3: jacking up premiums and denying every procedure under the sun.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Like it's, it's real life stuff and people are, are
- 5:06Speaker 3: not interested in us doing anything other than addressing the
- 5:10Speaker 3: issues that are impacting their everyday lives. And unfortunately the
- 5:13Speaker 3: Senate has not done that.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Right now, when you look at, the polling, which can
- 5:20Speaker 1: be incredibly flawed and biased in and of itself. It's
- 5:24Speaker 1: really tough to make out what's going on out there
- 5:26Speaker 1: because on one hand, I feel like the GOP is
- 5:29Speaker 1: fumbling the football. On the other hand, the Democrats are
- 5:33Speaker 1: doing so because they've been taken over by the socialists.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And that's not rhetoric. That's a fact. The extreme Democrat
- 5:39Speaker 1: socialist wing. Kat, what are your people telling you? What
- 5:43Speaker 1: are you hearing, not just about your race, but just
- 5:46Speaker 1: broadly speaking for the House and the Senate?
- 5:49Speaker 2: I mean, I think that if the.
- 5:53Speaker 3: House remains in control of the Republicans, it's not because
- 5:59Speaker 3: Republicans were doing a jam-up job.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Right.
- 6:02Speaker 3: It's because that... Americans are smart enough to know that
- 6:07Speaker 3: if they turn the house over to the socialists, who
- 6:11Speaker 3: that's what they call themselves, like, hey, we're the democratic
- 6:14Speaker 3: socialists of America, they realize that life will get considerably worse.
- 6:20Speaker 3: And I was thinking about this last night, and I
- 6:23Speaker 3: basically started comparing this to You hire somebody to build
- 6:28Speaker 3: you a house, and across the street, people start protesting
- 6:32Speaker 3: you building that house. And the people that you hired,
- 6:36Speaker 3: the Republicans.
- 6:37Speaker 2: To go build that house, they have done a lot
- 6:41Speaker 2: of work.
- 6:41Speaker 3: On foundation stuff, right?
- 6:43Speaker 2: But you're mad because they have not made the progress
- 6:46Speaker 2: that they need. So you consider firing them.
- 6:48Speaker 3: And bringing in new contractors. Well, the protesters across the
- 6:51Speaker 3: street who have been wanting to absolutely destroy your project...
- 6:55Speaker 3: and stop you from building your house, they all of
- 6:57Speaker 3: a sudden are like, well, hey, what if we stop
- 6:59Speaker 3: protesting for a second and then go and try to
- 7:01Speaker 3: convince them to hire us to build the house, knowing
- 7:03Speaker 3: full well that they're going to 100% not.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Build you that house, but they're going to tell you
- 7:09Speaker 2: they will.
- 7:10Speaker 3: That's what we're dealing with right now. And you were
- 7:12Speaker 3: just sitting there like.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Just build the dang house.
- 7:15Speaker 3: I hired you to do a job. Just do the
- 7:16Speaker 3: dang job.
- 7:18Speaker 2: But that's the frustration of what we're dealing with right now.
- 7:22Speaker 3: And I've expressed this to our own leaderships. You know me.
- 7:24Speaker 3: I'm an equal opportunity offender. I will be the first
- 7:30Speaker 3: to say that we have not done everything that we
- 7:32Speaker 3: possibly could.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Have we made.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Progress on some issues? Sure. But when you look at
- 7:37Speaker 3: the fact that we have a sick care system, not
- 7:38Speaker 3: a health care system, when you look at the fact
- 7:41Speaker 3: that gas is through the roof for a number of
- 7:43Speaker 3: different reasons, certainly Iran has played a role in this.
- 7:48Speaker 3: But it's permitting reform. It's regulatory reform. It's the fact
- 7:51Speaker 3: that refinery capacity has come offline in the last five years.
- 7:58Speaker 2: There's things that we should have.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Been doing all along that I have been begging leadership
- 8:06Speaker 3: to take care of. And sometimes I feel like they
- 8:09Speaker 3: listen to Washington insiders and pollsters more than they do
- 8:13Speaker 3: the people, and that's a problem.
- 8:15Speaker 1: We could literally spend an entire week of shows talking
- 8:19Speaker 1: with U.S. Congresswoman Kat Kamek. It's just this little thing
- 8:23Speaker 1: called time that doesn't allow us to do that. And maybe, okay,
- 8:27Speaker 1: maybe Augie. All right, maybe having a husband. Okay, maybe that.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I want you to indulge me. I'm going to be
- 8:35Speaker 1: President of the United States for a moment.
- 8:38Speaker 3: God bless you.
- 8:39Speaker 1: And you're a sitting member of Congress. And I know
- 8:43Speaker 1: your predisposition on what's going on in Iran. I have
- 8:45Speaker 1: a good idea of how you feel about these things.
- 8:47Speaker 1: But I, as president, I'm done with the cartels. I
- 8:51Speaker 1: now know that they fired at our military, our Coast Guard.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I know that they're continuing to traffic. I know they're
- 8:58Speaker 1: continuing to run drugs, even though we've made it harder
- 9:00Speaker 1: for them to do so. I am going to meet
- 9:04Speaker 1: with you as a member of Congress, and I'm going
- 9:06Speaker 1: to make this recommendation. Congresswoman, I'm going to ask your
- 9:13Speaker 1: colleagues in the House and the Senate to authorize me
- 9:17Speaker 1: to go to the president of Mexico. I'm going to
- 9:19Speaker 1: meet with her and her leadership, and I'm going to
- 9:21Speaker 1: give them 30 days to get control of the cartels
- 9:24Speaker 1: and to move them off the border and to shut
- 9:26Speaker 1: down their operations as best they can in this country
- 9:29Speaker 1: in a demonstrable fashion. And if they don't, I'm sending drones,
- 9:32Speaker 1: and if needed, I'm sending SEALs, and we're going to
- 9:34Speaker 1: kill them all. Hmm.
- 9:38Speaker 3: So, actually, I've never been asked a question quite like
- 9:44Speaker 3: that before, which I am very interested in, in the
- 9:48Speaker 3: genesis of this.
- 9:50Speaker 2: But I will say this.
- 9:52Speaker 3: I support, and we have, declared that the cartels are terrorists.
- 9:58Speaker 3: They're a terrorist organization. And we have to remember that
- 10:02Speaker 3: they were killing 100,000 people a year in the United States.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Through the drug running.
- 10:08Speaker 3: And it was a very inconvenient fact for the Biden
- 10:10Speaker 3: administration that they wanted to ignore. And they were adamantly
- 10:14Speaker 3: against declaring the cartels terrorist organizations because nearly 40% of
- 10:21Speaker 3: Mexico infrastructure organizations industry is controlled by the cartels.
- 10:27Speaker 2: So while I would say, yes, it is important.
- 10:29Speaker 3: To work with our partners abroad. And in this case,
- 10:33Speaker 3: it would be the president of Mexico. There needed to
- 10:35Speaker 3: be an understanding that there would actually be consequences rather
- 10:42Speaker 3: than just threats. And, and for them, they get, so
- 10:49Speaker 3: much money off of the drug trade coming out of
- 10:53Speaker 3: Mexico into the United States that they would have to
- 10:56Speaker 3: weigh whether or not looking at trade deals, doing the
- 11:01Speaker 3: suspension agreements and terminating those, all of that, and whether
- 11:05Speaker 3: or not it was worth going to effectively war over.
- 11:10Speaker 3: I think that there needs to be massive massive anti-corruption
- 11:17Speaker 3: change made in Mexico. That is the only way for
- 11:22Speaker 3: the government of Mexico to actually affect real change and
- 11:27Speaker 3: the policy then effectively to change with Mexico and the
- 11:31Speaker 3: United States. That's the problem, is that the cartels are
- 11:36Speaker 3: so firmly embedded in every fabric of the country that
- 11:41Speaker 3: I would say even going and negotiating is a problem.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Because then, you know, what are they going to say? Like, oh, yeah,
- 11:47Speaker 2: we're going to stop our business.
- 11:51Speaker 3: I think it requires a multi-front operation. I mean, that's
- 11:54Speaker 3: basically the fundamentals of war is you open up a
- 11:57Speaker 3: second front. And for the longest time, it's been the
- 12:00Speaker 3: United States, you know, the everyone. What we need is
- 12:05Speaker 3: for them to feel that pressure from everywhere, right? and
- 12:09Speaker 3: make it impossible to operate in this hemisphere. And I
- 12:14Speaker 3: think that's honestly what Rubio has been doing and working towards.
- 12:17Speaker 3: And he really does understand this in that in our
- 12:22Speaker 3: efforts to take on China and expand into the Indo-Pacific,
- 12:27Speaker 3: a lot of our neighbors have been forgotten in our
- 12:30Speaker 3: own hemisphere. And that has opened up. And I know
- 12:33Speaker 3: we're going down a complete random rabbit hole here.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Not at all.
- 12:36Speaker 3: But- We talk about how we're taking on China. Meanwhile,
- 12:40Speaker 3: China has been establishing itself in our own backyard because
- 12:44Speaker 3: we have forgotten our backyard. So it is more than
- 12:48Speaker 3: just a bilateral, hey, let's go direct and we're going
- 12:52Speaker 3: to do this. It requires a well thought out strategy
- 12:57Speaker 3: that includes consequences.
- 13:01Speaker 2: And I feel that.
- 13:02Speaker 3: After Obama's years of red lines that just, you know,
- 13:06Speaker 3: were magically erased and, you know, it was a perpetual moving,
- 13:10Speaker 3: you know, uh, end zone, you know, people start to
- 13:14Speaker 3: question our credibility.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Well, okay. I'll make a deal with you, Congresswoman. I'll
- 13:19Speaker 1: talk to Marco before I authorize the seals and the,
- 13:21Speaker 1: and the drums.
- 13:24Speaker 3: I think, I think us declaring them terrorists was the
- 13:26Speaker 3: smartest thing that we've done yet.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I agree. Uh, Congresswoman, thank you so much for the time,
- 13:31Speaker 1: as always. Talk to you in a couple weeks, hopefully.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Yes, sir. Have a good one.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Thank you. U.S. Congresswoman Kat Kamik with us on The
- 13:37Speaker 1: Morning Show with Preston Scott.
