Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Right, the sun has come out from behind the clouds.
- 0:01Speaker 1: For business owners. New data from two degrees shows optimism
- 0:05Speaker 1: is that its highest since twenty twenty one. Forty five
- 0:08Speaker 1: percent of business leaders feel better about their footing than
- 0:11Speaker 1: they did a year ago. Simon Arcus is Business Central
- 0:14Speaker 1: CEO with me this morning. Simon, good morning, Good morning
- 0:17Speaker 1: to you, Ryan. How are you very well? Thank you?
- 0:20Speaker 1: Does this include Wellington businesses?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Look, it does include Wellington businesses. It's good to see
- 0:25Speaker 2: and really really good to also that businesses feel like
- 0:29Speaker 2: the future is looking brighter.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Interesting they also talk about I mean, productivity has been
- 0:32Speaker 1: a bugbear of ours for a long time, but businesses
- 0:35Speaker 1: themselves reporting that they think productivity is trending upwards.
- 0:40Speaker 2: I think it's a really interesting observation, Ryan, that's partly,
- 0:43Speaker 2: I think because the reality is that it's been a
- 0:45Speaker 2: big focus of business in the last or one and
- 0:47Speaker 2: of course the government is driven by raising productivity. Probably
- 0:52Speaker 2: the one thing I'd noted which is really interesting is
- 0:55Speaker 2: this month we had actually contraction in the manufacturing and
- 0:59Speaker 2: the services industry. So there's a piece of data going
- 1:02Speaker 2: the out of way as well, which is really interesting too.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Yeah, how do you marry those things up. I mean
- 1:07Speaker 1: it is one It is one moment, isn't it.
- 1:09Speaker 2: It is one month? And I think I think two
- 1:11Speaker 2: things can be true at once, and you can have
- 1:13Speaker 2: optimism often precedes, you know, a good news, and you
- 1:18Speaker 2: can have a little bad news on the way. I
- 1:19Speaker 2: think the reason for that is the businesses they get
- 1:22Speaker 2: they have a sense of what the future is looking like,
- 1:24Speaker 2: so they've got forward orders, they've got all those sorts
- 1:26Speaker 2: of things. So actually, probably isn't the worry that it
- 1:29Speaker 2: might be any other time, So that optimism is a
- 1:31Speaker 2: good thing.
- 1:32Speaker 1: And no one said it was going to be a straight, safe,
- 1:35Speaker 1: easiy flight path out of the quagmire, right, It's always
- 1:39Speaker 1: going to be a little bit bumpy along the way.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I think bumpy is a great word. I think we're
- 1:43Speaker 2: bumping along the bottom a little bit. There are sort
- 1:45Speaker 2: of haltering momentary things seem to improve, and then we
- 1:48Speaker 2: sink back a little bit. But I think it's two
- 1:50Speaker 2: steps toward, one step back. But the general direction and
- 1:53Speaker 2: the two degrees survey seems to confirm this is good
- 1:57Speaker 2: optimistic feeling.
