- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good evening. We're putting the girls away and
- 0:31I can hear my neighbor off in the distance mowing a lawn.
- 0:34So if you hear a lawn mower, he's mowing a lawn.
- 0:38I, I mean, it's almost dark. It's hysterical.
- 0:40Anyway, OK, so today we are talking about excuses.
- 0:46And I'm not suggesting that sometimes there aren't reasons.
- 0:50I'm talking about a real like when you use an excuse and you
- 0:54know you should have done something and you didn't, and we
- 0:56use an excuse. So what is really an excuse?
- 0:59What is an excuse? And, and when it shows up in our
- 1:01world, to me, it is the barrier, it's the mountain, it's the
- 1:07blockade to what you really want on the other side.
- 1:11That's just the truth. When we have an excuse for
- 1:14something, not doing something, it's it's blocking us.
- 1:17It's keeping things away from us.
- 1:19Because here's the thing, even if you're using an excuse to get
- 1:22out of doing something you don't want to do, it's still you are
- 1:27not handling it in a, in a forthright, in an honest
- 1:31position. So typically that's a blocking
- 1:34energy. And when we start going down the
- 1:36road of looking at energy and why things are the way they are
- 1:39and how they play out in our world, you know, it's always
- 1:42coming back to what energy are you in?
- 1:46And if you are in an energy that does not support creating the
- 1:49life that you want, you're going to keep getting the life that
- 1:52you don't want. It's that simple.
- 1:54It's not complicated. It's very simple.
- 1:57And when we make excuses for stuff, it blocks, it's just a,
- 2:01it's like putting another brick in the wall.
- 2:03You know, as Pink Floyd said, it's All in all, it's just
- 2:07another brick in the wall and the wall goes up and before you
- 2:10know it, we're we're living behind a wall and we don't
- 2:14understand why everything good is on the other side, or at
- 2:17least that's what we believe. So excuses in general are
- 2:22something that we have to watch within ourselves.
- 2:25Question is, how often do you tell the truth when you don't
- 2:28want to do something or something's going on that you
- 2:31need to speak the truth about? These excuses that come, you
- 2:34hear, come out of your mouth. Are you happy with them?
- 2:37Are you proud of them? Do they make you feel like
- 2:40they're, they're really you? Or are they, or are they just
- 2:43showing up because you're so out of sorts that you're taking on
- 2:48the role of like making an excuse instead of just saying,
- 2:50hey, I have to deal with this in a different way.
- 2:53So I, I will look at that for myself and I'll say, oh, you
- 2:57know, I got too busy. Well, really isn't that I got
- 3:01too busy, it's that I didn't have a plan to put it in or I
- 3:05didn't have a big enough desire to put it in.
- 3:07Like when we get really down to, to the nitty gritty, this is one
- 3:12of those things like, OK, springtime is a very, very big
- 3:15time for me every year. I cannot wait to get my stuff
- 3:19out in the garden. And I had a lot of things that I
- 3:22wanted to do this year before I got the plants in restructuring,
- 3:28you know, certain pieces of it, putting the the fabrics, new
- 3:32fabric down, getting the new fabric bins to grow tomatoes.
- 3:37And there was so much that I had planned to do and it took away
- 3:42from me doing other things. And the truth was, I still could
- 3:46have done those other things if I had really made a plan to do
- 3:51it. But I didn't make a plan to do
- 3:52it. Instead, I allowed myself to
- 3:54obsess on plants, seeds, ordering things, getting things
- 3:58growing. And why?
- 4:00Because bottom line is it just brings me joy doing that.
- 4:04And the reality is I didn't really want to do the other
- 4:08things that were sitting there having to be done, like getting
- 4:12all my paperwork in order for the accountant.
- 4:14I didn't want to do it and I knew I had an out saying I could
- 4:18just file an extension. That's the way it works.
- 4:21So I mean, I could sit here and make stories up about it, but
- 4:26that is the truth. So I'm not making an excuse.
- 4:29I just dealt with it as the reality that it was because I'm
- 4:33not going to just make up excuses and say, oh, it was
- 4:35because of this or that. Nope, it wasn't because of any
- 4:38of those things. It was because I was more
- 4:40interested and more focused on what I wanted to do with my
- 4:43plants and my garden and everything else than I was about
- 4:47all this other stuff. And that's just the reality.
- 4:50So I wasn't going to add another brick in my wall by making
- 4:53excuses and making myself feel bad.
- 4:56I didn't handle my business. I didn't handle what I needed to
- 4:58do and put this, put it in the right order.
- 5:00And that's just how it works. So working towards eliminating
- 5:06your excuses frees you because it makes you recognize where you
- 5:09show up and how you show up. And that frees you from feeling
- 5:13the burden of many, many things like guilt or dishonesty with
- 5:18yourself or being dysfunctional about something.
- 5:22Just tell the truth about it. No excuses.
- 5:24I'm not going to make an excuse. I just didn't want to do it.
- 5:26I'm not going to do that. I just, it wasn't right.
- 5:29Whatever, Just tell the truth about it, all right?
- 5:32My friends See, he agrees with me.
- 5:35All right, my friends, have a great day and I will see you
- 5:38tomorrow. Bye.
