- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome into the Falling Out Podcast. It's been a hot
- 0:04Speaker 1: minute since we've seen you guys. Uh, man, we we
- 0:09Speaker 1: took a little bit of a hiatus, didn't we.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, Oh yeah, I think we might we.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I think we quit after Oklahoma beat our ass.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Yeah, we just we tapped out. You know.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I think we threw all our orange ship in the garbage.
- 0:25Speaker 2: By the way, I am I allowed to say ship.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Yeah, go ahead.
- 0:29Speaker 2: We threw all our all of our orange in the
- 0:32Speaker 2: garbage and uh and uh and quit after the Oklahoma game.
- 0:36Speaker 2: But here it is, uh August second, and we're ready to.
- 0:42Speaker 1: We're we're ready to hurt again. We're ready to hurt again.
- 0:49Speaker 1: It's uh, that's like the the I mean, our relationship
- 0:51Speaker 1: with the balls man, it's like the most toxic relationship
- 0:54Speaker 1: you've ever had, you know what I'm saying. We know,
- 0:58Speaker 1: it's almost like getting on the damn time tanic knowing
- 1:00Speaker 1: the boat's gonna ship gonna sink anyway. Yep, But here
- 1:07Speaker 1: we are.
- 1:08Speaker 2: You know, watch that movie for the first time in
- 1:10Speaker 2: my life the other night.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Oh it's a good movie. D it is, it is,
- 1:15Speaker 1: it is. I'll tell you this, though I still crunch
- 1:20Speaker 1: when old Buddy falls off the boat and his leg
- 1:22Speaker 1: hits the hits the propeller.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Yeah, oh man, oh yeah. I mean there's some moments
- 1:28Speaker 2: in there. I didn't even need the Jack and Rose
- 1:30Speaker 2: love story to be interested in it. I was more
- 1:32Speaker 2: interested in the boat sinking. Right. So I've been I've
- 1:36Speaker 2: been on a Titanic uh. Like my my YouTube recommended
- 1:41Speaker 2: videos are all Titanic h videos for the past three
- 1:45Speaker 2: or four days now.
- 1:46Speaker 1: But anyway back to the like, I just want to
- 1:50Speaker 1: see this thing go down.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to know everything about it.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Buddy, man, you know uh uh that we took that
- 2:00Speaker 1: much time off. Life happens when we do come back here,
- 2:05Speaker 1: you know shortly, Uh Bill, our buddy, Billy is out
- 2:09Speaker 1: of town at the moment, but he will be back.
- 2:13Speaker 1: We're gonna come back this year, and we're gonna make
- 2:15Speaker 1: sure we're here every week. Whether it's football, basketball, win
- 2:21Speaker 1: or loss, We're gonna be here the rainer shine. We're
- 2:26Speaker 1: like FedEx rain sleet, hell or snow. We deliver. You know,
- 2:29Speaker 1: we're gonna deliver this year. It's gonna be fun, man,
- 2:34Speaker 1: It's gonna be fun. So let's let's just dive right
- 2:38Speaker 1: into it man, our staff goes this year, Man, we've
- 2:42Speaker 1: got some new hires, uh first and foremost, because I
- 2:45Speaker 1: think it's gonna take a little bit longer to some
- 2:48Speaker 1: of the others. Let's talk about the new hires, and
- 2:52Speaker 1: let's talk about the strength of conditioning staff in particular.
- 2:55Speaker 1: We got Derek Owings from Indiana. He pretty much brought
- 3:01Speaker 1: his whole staff with him. Man, Like it's it's it's impressive.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And if you've seen the pictures on Facebook of you know,
- 3:09Speaker 1: or social media in general of what looks like that
- 3:12Speaker 1: that strength and conditioning program is doing with these with
- 3:15Speaker 1: these kids, they look like grown men. Son I've seen.
- 3:25Speaker 2: I've seen a few photos like Deshaun Bishop specifically I
- 3:29Speaker 2: saw yesterday that has has definitely put on some muscle.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Otherwise, as far as as far as Derrick Owings goes,
- 3:39Speaker 2: getting the guy from the team that just won the
- 3:41Speaker 2: national championship as your strengthen conditioning coach, that's a you know,
- 3:45Speaker 2: that's kind of a big deal. Also when you look
- 3:49Speaker 2: back at like what Alabama and LSU and all those
- 3:54Speaker 2: guys were doing a decade ago before the Niel era,
- 3:57Speaker 2: UH strength and conditioning was UH was always the the
- 4:02Speaker 2: big deal, right, yeah, yeah, Tommy Moffatt, Uh yeahs you
- 4:09Speaker 2: was the was the guy there? Who it's it's that
- 4:14Speaker 2: that is Honestly, I think it's head coach, your coordinators,
- 4:21Speaker 2: and then strength and conditioning.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I think that's the most.
- 4:24Speaker 2: And maybe strength and conditioning more important than the coordinators.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I could see that, Like, I think that's one
- 4:30Speaker 1: of the most underappreciated spots on a staff that you
- 4:35Speaker 1: can have, honestly, you know, And what's interesting to me
- 4:40Speaker 1: about this, like, let's let's just run through this real quick.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Derek Owens strength and conditioning. Players seem to like him.
- 4:48Speaker 1: They say he's real hard, say he's tough. But underneath him,
- 4:53Speaker 1: you've got Carl Miller, Jason Wooding, ads of Football SPOR
- 5:00Speaker 1: Performance a d S like a uh yeah, okay, assistant directors.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I just said Elijah Blackman and Drew Painter, as as
- 5:22Speaker 1: Elijah Blackman and Drew Painter. Drew Painter. That sounds that
- 5:25Speaker 1: name sounds really familiar to me. Was it was Curtis Painter.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Curtis was the quarterback and then Matt Painter is the
- 5:36Speaker 2: coach at Purdue.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Okay, all right, I knew I knew it sounded familiar.
- 5:40Speaker 1: So a Painter, I mean the.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Coach at Purdue in Indiana, and Curtis Painter, the quarterback
- 5:45Speaker 2: from the Colts also in Indiana where we got our
- 5:49Speaker 2: straight the conditioning coach from.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Sorry, you know you're fine. I'm with you, I'm following
- 5:56Speaker 1: you a circle. Then we got Josh Huff Applied performance science.
- 6:04Speaker 1: That's what he's in charge of. So I'm guessing it's
- 6:07Speaker 1: you know, macros and this, that and the other, you know,
- 6:09Speaker 1: the stuff we don't think about. Katie O'Connor, sports performance dietitian.
- 6:19Speaker 2: She's probably in the macro's business. The last guy was
- 6:21Speaker 2: in like the uh, the vitamins business.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm with you, I'm with you,
- 6:29Speaker 1: I'm following you. I'm smelling what you're stepping in. But
- 6:33Speaker 1: now here to me like as important you just kind
- 6:36Speaker 1: of mentioned it. But as important as that entire staff is,
- 6:41Speaker 1: I think the next two, the next two or three
- 6:43Speaker 1: we're going to talk about, are equally as important this year,
- 6:48Speaker 1: especially for Josh Hyper, Jim Knowles defensive coordinator, and Derek
- 6:57Speaker 1: Jones he's a cornerback coach or I'm sorry, Anthony Poindexter
- 7:06Speaker 1: both of those come from Penn State. And then we
- 7:09Speaker 1: got Derek Jones, h cornerback coach, Anthony Poindexter's co DC
- 7:16Speaker 1: and secondary coach. Those two came from Penn State. Derek Jones.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I think that was a higher gym Knowles wanted to make.
- 7:24Speaker 1: What's interesting to me is the strength and conditioning program
- 7:29Speaker 1: came from Indiana. Every new hire we have has some
- 7:33Speaker 1: sort of Big Ten connection.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Well, if we're looking at it now, it's that that's
- 7:42Speaker 2: a good thing, right, The big we get is running
- 7:44Speaker 2: college football.
- 7:46Speaker 1: See that, Well, that's what I was gonna say. Is
- 7:48Speaker 1: to me, the Big Ten has replaced the SEC for
- 7:53Speaker 1: the best conference in the country. I'll say it. I
- 7:56Speaker 1: had no problem saying it. I mean, that's top to bottom.
- 7:58Speaker 1: It's better even the top heavy.
- 8:00Speaker 2: It's very clear. I don't even think it's top heavy.
- 8:03Speaker 2: I think I think stack sixteen to sixteen, which I
- 8:08Speaker 2: think they have eighteen teams, But I think I think
- 8:12Speaker 2: you stack. I think you either way, they're clearly the
- 8:17Speaker 2: best conference. They've won three straight national championships with three
- 8:20Speaker 2: different champions that our run of dominance is over mm hmm.
- 8:29Speaker 2: But I mean, I mean we still got and but
- 8:31Speaker 2: I think the SEC still has a shot at We've
- 8:35Speaker 2: got a shot at it every year. Yeah, yes, as
- 8:37Speaker 2: a conference, but the Big ten is just better right now.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I think the playoffs have somewhat uh l is even
- 8:47Speaker 1: that out? It's just uh I think I think a
- 8:51Speaker 1: lot of it with a lot of it has to
- 8:53Speaker 1: do with the look of draw too.
- 8:56Speaker 2: And an expansion to like you can't just be like,
- 8:59Speaker 2: you can't just add Oregon and.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Right we're still look how good we are, right right?
- 9:07Speaker 1: We got Texas.
- 9:10Speaker 2: We just add the Seahawks.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Well look at us, look at us, look at that
- 9:17Speaker 1: with us.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Yeah, but either way, either way you slice, the Big
- 9:22Speaker 2: ten is is the now.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's that's just the way it is.
- 9:30Speaker 1: It's gonna take. And man, I mean, like I say,
- 9:33Speaker 1: I think it's pretty even. You know, SEC Big ten.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Those are the those are your one A, one B.
- 9:39Speaker 1: And I think any given year you can put in
- 9:43Speaker 1: either spot one A, one B and you wouldn't necessarily
- 9:46Speaker 1: be wrong. But I don't think the Big twelve is
- 9:50Speaker 1: I mean, Big twelve is a clear cut three and
- 9:53Speaker 1: then you got back twelve.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Well, I mean there's I'll say that obviously, those are
- 9:58Speaker 2: the your two best and then everybody else is playing
- 10:01Speaker 2: for third. Third. Yeah, but right now the big tennis
- 10:06Speaker 2: is is the king.
- 10:09Speaker 1: So you know, it sucks to say it, but it
- 10:12Speaker 1: is what it is. I think we all knew this
- 10:13Speaker 1: day was coming up.
- 10:14Speaker 2: You know, I'm not I'm not a I'm not a
- 10:18Speaker 2: I'm not an SEC supremacist.
- 10:21Speaker 1: No me either, me either.
- 10:23Speaker 2: In fact, I hate everybody in the SEC that's not us.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm right there with you. I am right there
- 10:29Speaker 1: with you.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Especially I had a problem with Oklahoma until they joined
- 10:32Speaker 2: the SEC.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean I did. I didn't either. I
- 10:36Speaker 1: think that was I think expansion for the SEC what
- 10:41Speaker 1: as a whole was good. I think it made you know,
- 10:46Speaker 1: it gives you a little bit more depth whatever.
- 10:49Speaker 2: But well, in the long haul, in the long haul,
- 10:53Speaker 2: it's going to be good for college football because we're
- 10:54Speaker 2: gonna get out of which. Are we going to talk
- 10:57Speaker 2: about the linebacker in a few minutes.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Aaron Carter, Yeah, we'll absolutely talk about that.
- 11:06Speaker 2: But otherwise, I think the expansion is fine because eventually
- 11:11Speaker 2: we're gonna break away from the NCAA and YadA, YadA, YadA.
- 11:15Speaker 2: But yes, getting our coordinators to get us back on
- 11:19Speaker 2: track to get it, get getting those coaches from the
- 11:21Speaker 2: Big Ten. Uh? That it. I don't think it's that
- 11:29Speaker 2: big of a deal. I think we got good ones
- 11:31Speaker 2: from the Big Ten.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I will tell you.
- 11:33Speaker 2: It's not like we got you know, Nebraska's defensive coordinator
- 11:38Speaker 2: and Northwestern's strength and conditioning coach, you know what I mean.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I think it's good that we got the strength and
- 11:44Speaker 2: conditioning coach from the national champion from last year. And
- 11:48Speaker 2: we've got Jim Knowles from Penn State. But who was
- 11:52Speaker 2: the defensive coordinator that of a national championship team two years?
- 11:56Speaker 1: Yes, I think I'll just tell you right now, I've
- 12:00Speaker 1: set it for a hot minute. I think that's the
- 12:02Speaker 1: best hire outside of Derek Owings. But I even still,
- 12:07Speaker 1: I think that's the best hire we could have made.
- 12:11Speaker 1: That's a home run higher Grand Slam. Honestly, we hung
- 12:16Speaker 1: on to uh timmy two time for too long and
- 12:22Speaker 1: but but sometimes you's got to move up, move on, rebound, upgraded, upgraded.
- 12:30Speaker 1: So let's let's talk for just a second here about
- 12:33Speaker 1: the newcomers and goers really don't and transfers. Uh, We've
- 12:39Speaker 1: got kaitln Lee. He's four star from Auburn cornerback. I
- 12:43Speaker 1: think that was a good one. Uh, Auburn seems like
- 12:46Speaker 1: they always have a good secondary. To me, it doesn't
- 12:51Speaker 1: matter how bad the rest of the defense is. Their
- 12:53Speaker 1: secondary is legit. I think that's a good higher or
- 12:58Speaker 1: a good higher ship. Uh good, you know, I mean
- 13:02Speaker 1: in the in the n I in the n I
- 13:05Speaker 1: el era. Yeah, I guess, yeah, they're all HighRes. We've
- 13:11Speaker 1: got Xavier Gillen followed Knowles from Penn State. Another defense.
- 13:15Speaker 1: He's I want to say he's on the defensive line.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I didn't chop that down here in my notes. But
- 13:21Speaker 1: here's the big one though, here's the big one. He's
- 13:24Speaker 1: on Brandon, five star quarterback, probably our starter. If he's not,
- 13:31Speaker 1: I bet he is by the by the start of
- 13:34Speaker 1: SEC play.
- 13:37Speaker 2: It's uh, the the talk around the room is that
- 13:42Speaker 2: he is the starter.
- 13:45Speaker 1: You know.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Everything I've heard is he's gonna he's beating out uh
- 13:50Speaker 2: McIntyre for the starting job.
- 13:52Speaker 1: It's it's wild to me though, that we're taking and
- 13:55Speaker 1: I and I hope that's the case, honestly, I really do,
- 13:57Speaker 1: because at some point we're gonna have to start playing
- 13:59Speaker 1: some of these highly recruited kids that you know, we get, Yeah,
- 14:04Speaker 1: they transfer out this, that and the other, or or
- 14:08Speaker 1: we're gonna just stop getting them. But every video you see,
- 14:13Speaker 1: and I and I fully feel like it's calculated by
- 14:16Speaker 1: hipel if you pay attention every video that you see
- 14:21Speaker 1: that gets put out on YouTube, Facebook, whatever. The other
- 14:25Speaker 1: guy George McIntyre is wearing the camera.
- 14:33Speaker 2: So did George McIntyre put on any weight that supposedly
- 14:40Speaker 2: he has put on about fifteen pounds, which that's big,
- 14:43Speaker 2: that's important. It's a lot of weight, it is.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. I just I want whoever, whoever
- 14:53Speaker 1: is the best one for the job. If we kind
- 14:54Speaker 1: of run to all year, who cares if they're both
- 14:57Speaker 1: good and they can both run the offense and Hype
- 15:01Speaker 1: wants to call to one strong suit and the other
- 15:04Speaker 1: strong suit do it, I don't care. Remember Eric Age,
- 15:09Speaker 1: Brent Shaeffer, It was sort of the same thing at
- 15:13Speaker 1: that point in time.
- 15:14Speaker 2: It worked for a minute. I will say, I trust
- 15:19Speaker 2: I trust Josh Hoppel with the quarterback position. Yes, that
- 15:25Speaker 2: that is my that is my sentiment on it. Of course,
- 15:29Speaker 2: I'd love to see Phase and Brandon this year. But
- 15:33Speaker 2: as soon as I can see him, you know, I
- 15:36Speaker 2: want to see him play.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Oh absolutely, But it's like it's almost like Nico. But
- 15:40Speaker 1: I don't feel like phasey On's a douchebag.
- 15:45Speaker 2: But if let's make let's make the best decision to
- 15:51Speaker 2: win football games. But I trust I trust him with
- 15:55Speaker 2: the quarterback position.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely, last, but certainly not least. I feel
- 16:02Speaker 1: like this is the elephant in the room as far
- 16:04Speaker 1: as newcomers and goers, transfers whatever, chess Coleman. He was here,
- 16:09Speaker 1: then he's not. He's here, and uh now he's gone
- 16:14Speaker 1: after we paid him a whole bunch of money.
- 16:21Speaker 2: See. Yeah, yeah, well of course we could use a
- 16:26Speaker 2: you know, we could use a good pass rusher.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Yeah, but who couldn't.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Yeah, has he ended up anywhere?
- 16:35Speaker 1: Uh? Not that I've seen. I haven't been paying attention
- 16:38Speaker 1: necessarily admittedly so, but not that I've seen. I feel
- 16:43Speaker 1: like that's something that either one of us is going
- 16:45Speaker 1: to get a notification from espen about, you know.
- 16:54Speaker 2: So, Yeah, I'm not saying anything because he came from
- 16:56Speaker 2: Penn State.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, he came from Penn State. He came with
- 16:59Speaker 1: you knowles.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Yeah, not seeing uh, I'm not seeing any destination.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Here, but waiting with him, Yes, and Buddy gets down
- 17:10Speaker 1: there and uh, you know, I get it. He's a
- 17:12Speaker 1: young he's a he's a young cat having a hard
- 17:15Speaker 1: time adjusting the stuff.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Uh.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Far away from home, sure enough.
- 17:21Speaker 2: But you know, yeah, it's college.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Do what that's college? Yeah exactly, It's like, uh, you know, buddy,
- 17:33Speaker 1: that's uh, that's life. Let's uh, let's put our big
- 17:36Speaker 1: boy drawers on and let's go. You know, you're one
- 17:39Speaker 1: of the biggest colleges in college football. Uh, let's uh
- 17:45Speaker 1: let him hang and play some football, you know.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think, uh, I think better now than later.
- 17:53Speaker 2: With Chas Coleman, it's very reminiscent of the Boot Carter situation,
- 17:59Speaker 2: very reminiscent of the Nico situation, very reminiscent of just
- 18:03Speaker 2: all the there's I mean, there's plenty of guys.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Well in the n era, that right, that is tough
- 18:14Speaker 2: to say, by the way, But in the in this era,
- 18:18Speaker 2: it is we it's there. There's so many examples of
- 18:26Speaker 2: of these guys like Chaz and Boo and Nico. Yeah,
- 18:31Speaker 2: but this has happened all throughout college football, but it
- 18:36Speaker 2: seems like it's always here. Why is it always here
- 18:38Speaker 2: that these guys just can't stand it in Knoxville.
- 18:42Speaker 1: I think it's a money thing, man, though we throw
- 18:44Speaker 1: we throw enough money at some of these kids that
- 18:48Speaker 1: I mean DGG for example, six million dollars.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Great, let's talk about him.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that's a huge get yeah for next year.
- 19:00Speaker 1: I don't necessarily need him this year. I think he's
- 19:02Speaker 1: good enough to where he would uh make a difference
- 19:05Speaker 1: this year by all means. But yeah, I mean that's
- 19:11Speaker 1: a huge kip man. And he's the highest paid running
- 19:13Speaker 1: back recruit ever.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Well yeah, because they've been getting paid for four years, right, but.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Yeah, get a spring on track, all right, You're no,
- 19:35Speaker 1: It's just, uh, it's one of those things man, like
- 19:38Speaker 1: we're paying all these kids they want to come here,
- 19:41Speaker 1: or they say they want to come here, and then
- 19:43Speaker 1: next thing, you know, it's like, oh, well, you know
- 19:45Speaker 1: I miss mom and dad, now miss him. They can
- 19:52Speaker 1: come here. That's part of your deal too. You can
- 19:54Speaker 1: pay for him to come here. Last I checked. Uh,
- 19:59Speaker 1: you're not a lines is a two way airline, you know,
- 20:02Speaker 1: here and here and back. You know, Like, I don't know,
- 20:06Speaker 1: It's it's crazy to me, man. It's just like the
- 20:09Speaker 1: amount of money we throw out there to some of
- 20:11Speaker 1: these teams and then or some of these kids, and
- 20:16Speaker 1: then we're just like, oh, okay, you don't want to
- 20:18Speaker 1: be here, Okay bye, and we still have to pay it.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Oh miss is suing two players right now, you know, like, Okay,
- 20:29Speaker 1: It's it's crazy, man, it's crazy. It's a crazy time
- 20:32Speaker 1: to be a lot.
- 20:34Speaker 2: I really wish the money hadn't got involved with college football.
- 20:39Speaker 1: It's really you know, for for us, for us as
- 20:44Speaker 1: all fans, I think it's a double edged sword. And
- 20:46Speaker 1: I'll tell you why. I don't think, well, why exactly
- 20:53Speaker 1: Without Without N I l I don't think we're even
- 20:56Speaker 1: sitting here talking about a possibility of a good season
- 21:00Speaker 1: at this moment in time. I think we had buried
- 21:02Speaker 1: ourselves so far down the line with Kiffen Duly coach Cornbread.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Nick saban Is is still at Bama. Yeah, with the
- 21:16Speaker 2: number one, with the preseason number one Alabama team.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Every year every year, and it's it's it's his world
- 21:24Speaker 1: and we're just living in it.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Tenth national title, yeah, or he's already won more
- 21:30Speaker 2: in the past few years.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, that's that's why Nil was good for Tennessee.
- 21:37Speaker 1: And I l is also bad for Tennessee because of
- 21:39Speaker 1: the same reasons.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Honestly, in IOLA is good for Tennessee. Is is as
- 21:45Speaker 2: good for Tennessee as it is bad for college football? Yeah,
- 21:49Speaker 2: that's my my take on it.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I mean it is because essentially we're we're sitting here
- 21:56Speaker 1: and we're watching amateur league football every Saturday, right mm hmm.
- 22:03Speaker 1: They're just not making as much as you know some
- 22:05Speaker 1: of these dudes we watch on Sunday, and that's okay. Like,
- 22:08Speaker 1: I've always thought that some of these players, that these
- 22:10Speaker 1: players should have been paid, but some of the money
- 22:14Speaker 1: that gets tossed out there, bro, some of.
- 22:16Speaker 2: These players should get paid. Yes, I don't know if
- 22:19Speaker 2: it I I don't know if it should get I
- 22:25Speaker 2: don't know if that money should be used in recruiting. Yeah,
- 22:31Speaker 2: I don't And and this goes h We'll go ahead
- 22:37Speaker 2: extend to our to our linebacker situation. Here Arion Carter
- 22:41Speaker 2: with an airplane, right, like, why why is it a
- 22:49Speaker 2: big deal to to pay for for a university to
- 22:56Speaker 2: pay for a four hundred dollars flight to find out
- 23:01Speaker 2: what his na Who cares if you paid it back?
- 23:04Speaker 2: Right when the kid's getting six million? Is is that
- 23:10Speaker 2: what you said. Yeah, yeah, uh, signing was worth, which
- 23:16Speaker 2: I know at the university is not like University of
- 23:18Speaker 2: Tennessee is not like here's six six thousand dollars or
- 23:21Speaker 2: six million dollars, right, But yeah, I just can't. I
- 23:29Speaker 2: can't wrap my head around I can't wrap my head
- 23:31Speaker 2: around the whole the whole situation. College football is turning
- 23:36Speaker 2: into not even the NFL, it's turning it into something
- 23:39Speaker 2: that is.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Just it's lawless, nonsensical, like it's lawless, but at the
- 23:44Speaker 1: same time it's not you know what I mean, Like, well,
- 23:49Speaker 1: I mean got in.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Trouble two years ago for buying a kid a cheeseburger. Yeah,
- 23:55Speaker 2: that's why he was like, you know what this, I'm
- 23:58Speaker 2: gonna go coach the Chargers and live in Los Angeles
- 24:01Speaker 2: and and that'll have to Can I can buy cheeseburgers
- 24:05Speaker 2: for whoever the fuck I want.
- 24:06Speaker 1: To, right, It's but it's crazy, brother, It's crazy. I'm
- 24:16Speaker 1: with you, I we're we're we're all in on the
- 24:18Speaker 1: craziness here, all right. So I know I know this
- 24:23Speaker 1: topic right here is something you've been waiting to talk
- 24:26Speaker 1: about because we've we've talked about it on on some
- 24:29Speaker 1: other stuff. Let's talk about Heipel's hot seat, so to speak,
- 24:34Speaker 1: quote unquote is it hot? Lukewarm?
- 24:38Speaker 2: Cold?
- 24:38Speaker 1: Ice cold? I mean he's overhauled the entire defensive staff, strength,
- 24:43Speaker 1: conditioning staff. I've said it before. I think Noles was
- 24:47Speaker 1: a helicopter deck higher like that was a good hire.
- 24:51Speaker 1: You bought two years with that one. I think two
- 24:53Speaker 1: years because everybody that knows and has seen what he
- 24:57Speaker 1: does says it takes two years to get his entire
- 25:01Speaker 1: defense in. If his seat was hot, who.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Said who says that a seat can't be hot for
- 25:09Speaker 2: two years?
- 25:10Speaker 1: Oh that's true, that's true. I mean, ask Phil his
- 25:13Speaker 1: seat was hot for starting in ninety nine and he
- 25:17Speaker 1: lasted nine more years, you know. I mean, uh, but
- 25:23Speaker 1: if his seat is hot, what do we need to
- 25:26Speaker 1: see this year to cool it off?
- 25:32Speaker 2: I think one we need to see, did we did we?
- 25:40Speaker 2: We never put the road bug to bed? Right? Yeah?
- 25:44Speaker 1: That thing is still alive and kicking brother.
- 25:48Speaker 2: So we're just we just ignore it now, do we?
- 25:52Speaker 1: Though?
- 25:53Speaker 2: Because well, I mean, well, I'm saying two years ago
- 25:55Speaker 2: that was the thing. It's like, yeah, Hipele's good, but
- 25:58Speaker 2: he can't win on the road. And now it's like, yeah,
- 26:00Speaker 2: Aiffle was good last year. We didn't beat any team
- 26:03Speaker 2: with a winning record. No, I just want to beat
- 26:07Speaker 2: a good team.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Maybe here, I think here is what what kind of
- 26:14Speaker 1: helps put that kind of stuff to bed though is
- 26:17Speaker 1: and this will play into you know, a couple of
- 26:20Speaker 1: our games on the schedule. Here he did go to
- 26:23Speaker 1: the swamp last year and in that streak that was
- 26:26Speaker 1: a bit one for all of us. And that and that,
- 26:30Speaker 1: and the thing is, that was the crown jewel of
- 26:32Speaker 1: last year. It was, it was, And it doesn't matter
- 26:34Speaker 1: how bad Flora was to any of us. We needed
- 26:38Speaker 1: to go down there and see that when happen.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Matters a lot, matters a little how bad they were,
- 26:45Speaker 2: but it was the crown jewel of last season.
- 26:47Speaker 1: If Florda was better, it mattered a lot more.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Sure, but they weren't, because if they were, they would
- 26:55Speaker 2: have beat us.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Yeah, probably, Like I mean, it's hard to mathematically look
- 27:03Speaker 1: at it.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Yeah, every team with a losing record we beat. Every
- 27:06Speaker 2: team with a with a winning record.
- 27:07Speaker 1: We lost to Yeah, I mean that's that's that's fact.
- 27:11Speaker 2: And the thing about it is is here's what I
- 27:14Speaker 2: need to see. Nine wins. Okay, Okay, not nine wins total.
- 27:19Speaker 2: That's this. This does not include postseason play. Okay, nine
- 27:24Speaker 2: out of.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Twelve, nine twelve. Okay, I'm with you.
- 27:27Speaker 2: I'm with you, so and I'll be in and I'll
- 27:31Speaker 2: I'll put my pitchfork back in the closet or wherever
- 27:35Speaker 2: you put pitchforks. I don't know. I've never owned a pitchfork,
- 27:38Speaker 2: but you see what I'm saying.
- 27:39Speaker 1: I'm with you, I'm with you. Nine wins.
- 27:42Speaker 2: That eight and four again is not going to cut
- 27:45Speaker 2: it because of well, let's let's look at the schedule here.
- 27:52Speaker 1: That's exactly where we're going right there. So let's go
- 27:55Speaker 1: ahead and just jump into it.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Okay.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Game one, Furma, three thirty pm. I think we both
- 28:01Speaker 1: got that pencilvan as a dub dub uh. Next one,
- 28:05Speaker 1: it gets a little bit more interesting. Georgia Tech. It's
- 28:08Speaker 1: neutral sight game seven pm kickoff. I still want to
- 28:13Speaker 1: say it's DUB though.
- 28:17Speaker 2: We actually looks like we played that at their home stadium?
- 28:21Speaker 1: Is it? I thought it was a neutral site game.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Okay, my information is telling me that it's at Bobby
- 28:27Speaker 2: Dodd Stadium.
- 28:28Speaker 1: We'll go with Bobby Dodd's stout. We'll go with it
- 28:31Speaker 1: with it being in Bobby Dallad Okay, I don't know.
- 28:36Speaker 2: I feel like so we we always get that early
- 28:41Speaker 2: uh useless acc team, you know a couple of years
- 28:48Speaker 2: stated a couple of years ago Georgia Tech in twenty seventeen,
- 28:53Speaker 2: Virginia Tech in Bristol.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Uh.
- 28:55Speaker 2: We we always get this team and pitt in and
- 29:00Speaker 2: I've always I've always been one of those guys. It's like, man,
- 29:03Speaker 2: this team like we might be in trouble.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Yeah, give me us.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I'm gonna give me us against Georgia.
- 29:14Speaker 1: If it was the uh, the Tech that ran the
- 29:17Speaker 1: triple option, I'd be like, oh, uh no, no, we're done.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Who would ki?
- 29:24Speaker 1: Yeah? But no, I'm with you on that one. Next up,
- 29:28Speaker 1: Kansas State three thirty pm. Think you can go ahead
- 29:31Speaker 1: and pencil that one in as a dub.
- 29:33Speaker 2: I can't believe that's three thirty pm and Texas is
- 29:35Speaker 2: at noon. That's crazy.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Speaking of that's the next team we're gonna talk about
- 29:41Speaker 1: Texas noon. That one. That one right there man in
- 29:49Speaker 1: Knoxville in Knoxville noon kickoff, Why it makes no sense
- 29:58Speaker 1: to me none, what's so ever? But either way, we
- 30:02Speaker 1: got to pick it. Which way you going Texas Texas.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I'm a horns down guy all the time.
- 30:10Speaker 2: But uh yeah, I think I think Texas beats US.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I think that's I think that's one of our swing games.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Uh we win or lose that one. I mean we
- 30:21Speaker 1: win it, obviously, things look a lot better. We lose,
- 30:25Speaker 1: things don't look as bad as they could be.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Man, if we're one with the loss of Texas, it's
- 30:37Speaker 2: not it's not dooming gloom.
- 30:41Speaker 1: No no, by no means we lose at home, I'm
- 30:47Speaker 1: gonna go I'm gonna go with a doub on this one,
- 30:50Speaker 1: and I'll tell you why, because it's at home period.
- 30:53Speaker 1: I think they'll get that crowd up. The that's gonna
- 30:56Speaker 1: be that that's the first big game of the year
- 30:58Speaker 1: for us.
- 31:01Speaker 2: With it being the first big game of the year,
- 31:03Speaker 2: that's a good argument. But and I secondly, we lost
- 31:07Speaker 2: at home to Georgia. Last year, we lost at home
- 31:09Speaker 2: to Oklahoma. And I'm sorry that Vanderbilt not put our
- 31:14Speaker 2: ship in.
- 31:15Speaker 1: They leaned our ship in.
- 31:17Speaker 2: But I think I think Vanderbilt bought Neeland Stadium.
- 31:24Speaker 1: They branded it. If they didn't buy it, I don't know.
- 31:30Speaker 1: I'm getting I'm getting there though, I'm on the same
- 31:32Speaker 1: nine and three track as you. I just think we
- 31:35Speaker 1: got a different path getting there.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Well, I'm saying nine to three is the baseline. See
- 31:42Speaker 2: for me to be not one his ass out of.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Here, all right, all right, so you're at you're so
- 31:48Speaker 1: right now, you're at three and one. I'm at four.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I think three one's crazy. Texas is too good, man,
- 31:54Speaker 2: Texas is too good. Uh, arch is arch Manning.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Is he is that guy. We'll see, we'll see. I'm with.
- 32:06Speaker 2: He did we did.
- 32:07Speaker 1: He looked a whole lot better than the last year.
- 32:09Speaker 1: But man, I don't know. I don't know. Next up,
- 32:15Speaker 1: Auburn comes to Neveland.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Alex Golish.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's that's a pretty good storyline right there.
- 32:25Speaker 1: That's student teacher, you know.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:29Speaker 1: I still think we I think we get that one.
- 32:32Speaker 1: I think we start out five.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Oh, but I think that I think this one goes
- 32:39Speaker 2: to o T. I think we're for one.
- 32:42Speaker 1: I can I'm I'm on board with that one too, Okay.
- 32:46Speaker 2: I think I think we might edge Abbret out in talent. Yeah,
- 32:51Speaker 2: this is and I don't know, I don't know what
- 32:55Speaker 2: Auburn's roster looks like I don't know. I follow us
- 32:59Speaker 2: in the off season, and that's it, right, right, So
- 33:02Speaker 2: I don't know what Auburn's gonna look like. But I
- 33:05Speaker 2: think Alex Golish makes a big enough difference. He made
- 33:09Speaker 2: a big enough Excuse me, he makes a big enough
- 33:12Speaker 2: He made a big enough difference for South Florida rather
- 33:15Speaker 2: they competed with Bama two years in a row.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Yeah, so why.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Wouldn't he make that difference with us? Facts, I think
- 33:27Speaker 2: it's a competitive game, but I think I think we'll
- 33:29Speaker 2: beat Auburn.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm with you there.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Put this game at Jordan Hare and then I'd probably
- 33:37Speaker 2: probably flip right right.
- 33:40Speaker 1: So this is where I have a and I hate
- 33:43Speaker 1: to say it, but this is where I have us
- 33:44Speaker 1: picking up our first loss. We got to go to
- 33:46Speaker 1: Arkansas again, mm hmm. Historically that is a very hard
- 33:52Speaker 1: place for us to play. Yeah, new head coach, really
- 33:58Speaker 1: and truly you kind of look at their schedule. That's
- 34:00Speaker 1: one of their first big home games. I just I
- 34:07Speaker 1: don't know, I hate I hate to pick that one
- 34:10Speaker 1: because here's the thing. Do you take this is a
- 34:14Speaker 1: bad loss? If we take it? Yeah, you know, I would.
- 34:19Speaker 2: Rather we usually do at Arkansas and Faville. We we
- 34:23Speaker 2: typically we typically fall. I don't think we do it
- 34:26Speaker 2: this year.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Okay, all right, So I've got us would I would.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Feel more well or I would I would feel more
- 34:34Speaker 2: confident in taking the in saying that we will lose
- 34:40Speaker 2: to Auburn than Arkansas.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Okay, okay, So right now, though I've got us five one,
- 34:48Speaker 1: you got us four two? Yeah?
- 34:52Speaker 2: Uh no, No, my only loss is Texas so far.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Okay, all right, yeah, you're right, you're right. We both
- 34:59Speaker 1: got well hold on, yeah, okay, so we both got
- 35:04Speaker 1: us five to one right now, we just have different losses. Yeah,
- 35:07Speaker 1: different losses. Okay, So Bama, Bama comes to town next.
- 35:17Speaker 2: I'm not even gonna you gotta pick it.
- 35:20Speaker 1: God, I'm not.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Gonna I'm not gonna well, I'm not gonna put the bad,
- 35:23Speaker 2: the bad juju on us. Uh So I'm gonna take
- 35:26Speaker 2: I'm gonna take us to beat Bama.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Man, it's hard. It's hard to not say it because
- 35:32Speaker 1: we have beat them the last two trips. They made
- 35:34Speaker 1: an obstacle. Yes, so I'm with you on that one
- 35:38Speaker 1: six to one. Here's the next, here's one, here's another one.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Our road schedule sucks ass this year because we gotta
- 35:47Speaker 1: go to South Carolina after Alabama Wolf. So I don't know.
- 35:57Speaker 1: I don't know then.
- 36:01Speaker 2: What last time, last time we were down there?
- 36:04Speaker 1: Thanks Connor Stallions.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Yeah, that was that was I made that trip. You
- 36:12Speaker 2: made that trip, went down there. Great stadium, very intimidating crowd. Uh.
- 36:17Speaker 2: I want to say this just for all the Ohio
- 36:20Speaker 2: State fans that may ever hear this. I've been to
- 36:23Speaker 2: a night game at South Carolina and at Ohio State.
- 36:26Speaker 2: South Carolina way more intimidated by orders of magnitude, more intimidating.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Oh, I'm clipping that. I'm clipping that, no doubt, clip.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Clipping if you want to. Yeah, didn't Ohio State beat
- 36:44Speaker 2: our ass? Okay, Ohio State beat our ass because they
- 36:48Speaker 2: had NFL players on that roster, all the way down
- 36:52Speaker 2: the lineup, everywhere you looked. I saw it the first
- 36:56Speaker 2: few snaps of football that they had bigger, stronger, faster.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Guy watch, how could you not?
- 37:03Speaker 2: They did not beat us because of that crowd or
- 37:06Speaker 2: that stadium. There was nothing about that stadium it was.
- 37:09Speaker 2: It looks good. It's a it's a it's a good
- 37:12Speaker 2: looking stadium. That is it it is not intimidating whatsoever.
- 37:18Speaker 2: South Carolina far more intimidating, far more intimidating.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I can't. I can see. It's hard. It's you know,
- 37:27Speaker 1: it's hard. Whenever you're out there at night and you
- 37:29Speaker 1: hear I don't care if I ever hear sandstorm again,
- 37:33Speaker 1: don't care.
- 37:35Speaker 2: I'll say this. It's like you come to you come
- 37:38Speaker 2: to ut Knotsville, and it's like a mid Tennessee team
- 37:45Speaker 2: in Knotsville could be a good team, but just because
- 37:52Speaker 2: of the environment. A mead Ohio State team, which we've
- 37:55Speaker 2: never we've never, we've never seen it in our lives.
- 37:58Speaker 2: A Middle High State team, they're always really good. But
- 38:03Speaker 2: a midd Ohio State team, right, could not use home
- 38:08Speaker 2: field advantage to their favor. They cannot beat a good
- 38:11Speaker 2: team right with home build. They just couldn't. It's not
- 38:15Speaker 2: that it's not that good. It's nothing great, right, it's beautiful.
- 38:20Speaker 2: So a lot of college football history there Ohio State
- 38:23Speaker 2: as a stadium.
- 38:26Speaker 1: All right. So bottom line, you go in winter loss
- 38:29Speaker 1: in South Carolina, in Columbia, I'm going to win as.
- 38:37Speaker 2: The resident, as the resident vall downer, I'll take the.
- 38:44Speaker 1: L here, Okay, all right, so you're now at six
- 38:52Speaker 1: and two.
- 38:53Speaker 2: I'm at six and two.
- 38:55Speaker 1: I've got a seven to one because I'm gonna take
- 38:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna take this one. However, if it's at night,
- 39:01Speaker 1: I'd be willing to flip. I'd be willing to flip
- 39:06Speaker 1: if it's a night game in Columbia and you know
- 39:08Speaker 1: it will be Oh, oh, it absolutely will be. But
- 39:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna go seven to one on this one because
- 39:14Speaker 1: I've got two more losses coming up. Uh, we know
- 39:19Speaker 1: what's gonna happen when we play Kentucky and Eland. W Yeah, sorry,
- 39:23Speaker 1: absolutely so eight one, seven to two, next one. Okay,
- 39:29Speaker 1: So the last three games of verse schedule, at least
- 39:32Speaker 1: two of the three are gonna be tough. Uh, who's
- 39:38Speaker 1: to say three of all three of them won't be.
- 39:40Speaker 1: Who knows what Dandy brings up. And it's crazy to
- 39:43Speaker 1: me that we even say that. But we've got to
- 39:48Speaker 1: go to Kyle Field, Texas A and M. I've got
- 39:51Speaker 1: us dropping that one.
- 39:53Speaker 2: I would I'm I'm good taking that as loss. No,
- 39:58Speaker 2: I'm not good but taking it as lost. But you
- 40:00Speaker 2: know what I mean, they were a good team last year.
- 40:06Speaker 2: They're bringing a lot back and that's a tough place
- 40:09Speaker 2: to play, Unlike Ohio Stadium.
- 40:12Speaker 1: Hard, hard place to play, hard place to play, period,
- 40:16Speaker 1: don't matter time to day, it's hard place to play.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Next one, Lane Kells return to Knoxville with a good
- 40:32Speaker 1: L s U team.
- 40:36Speaker 2: This has lost to me.
- 40:38Speaker 1: That's where I'm at, and I say it, but on
- 40:42Speaker 1: the other side of that one, on the other side
- 40:44Speaker 1: of that one, and this is my this is gonna
- 40:46Speaker 1: be my one argument to it. Lane loses to a
- 40:51Speaker 1: team at least once sometimes twice a year that he
- 40:54Speaker 1: shouldn't lose to. Well, that team loaded.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Well, Okay, I don't know are they that good. I
- 41:08Speaker 2: don't think we're like that of a team to lose to,
- 41:13Speaker 2: especially when you have to come to NOx.
- 41:15Speaker 1: We're not. We're not.
- 41:16Speaker 2: But he does, he does appear to have this this
- 41:20Speaker 2: hour of us. Yeah, yeah, he's got he's got this
- 41:27Speaker 2: this this mojo about him. And we we've i mean,
- 41:32Speaker 2: we've not beating him. He's been here, he's we've played
- 41:35Speaker 2: him several times since he left and not we're over.
- 41:41Speaker 1: But now, granted, outside of that twenty twenty one on
- 41:44Speaker 1: this game, he's been with a better team than we were. Okay,
- 41:52Speaker 1: and he probably is this year too. I mean, that's
- 41:56Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying. That's why, that's that's the only
- 42:00Speaker 1: argument I would have for revolves when in this one
- 42:03Speaker 1: it is it's at home and Lane typically tends to
- 42:07Speaker 1: drop one he's not supposed to, because who's to say
- 42:10Speaker 1: we're not Who's to say we're not sitting at you know,
- 42:13Speaker 1: six and four at this point in the season, you know,
- 42:17Speaker 1: because it's a possibility to whether we want to admit
- 42:19Speaker 1: it or not. Who's say we're not sitting at six
- 42:24Speaker 1: and four and just hoping for hoping for something good
- 42:27Speaker 1: to happen. And this is that something good? Because LSU
- 42:31Speaker 1: at that at that point, their schedule is not hard.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Their schedule is not hard. They'll sit they could be
- 42:38Speaker 1: coming in at you know, ten and oh nine and
- 42:41Speaker 1: one who knows, you know, well, here would be something.
- 42:47Speaker 2: Here's something I want to pose to you. Okay, you
- 42:50Speaker 2: know why LSU schedule is not hard ahead because they're good.
- 42:56Speaker 1: That's true. That's true.
- 42:57Speaker 2: You know why our schedule is hard.
- 42:59Speaker 1: Because we're not good.
- 43:00Speaker 2: Because we're not good. Your schedule is a lot harder
- 43:04Speaker 2: when you suck, you know, though.
- 43:07Speaker 1: My thing is, man, is I think I think we're
- 43:10Speaker 1: one of those teams that we're not as bad as
- 43:13Speaker 1: some of our fan base thinks we are. We're also
- 43:17Speaker 1: not as good as some of our fan base thinks
- 43:19Speaker 1: we thinks we will be.
- 43:23Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 43:23Speaker 1: I feel like right now you and I are on
- 43:25Speaker 1: the same track to an extent. But you've got Okay,
- 43:29Speaker 1: so you got l s U as a loss.
- 43:32Speaker 2: I'm gonna take until until we until we exercise that
- 43:37Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin demon. I'm just gonna yeah, I'm just gonna
- 43:42Speaker 2: I'm gonna put that one as a loss.
- 43:43Speaker 1: So at this point, both of us have got us.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Uh what eight and three nine? Two?
- 43:49Speaker 2: No, No, No, we got.
- 43:52Speaker 1: I've got We're both sitting at eight and three.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 43:58Speaker 1: What all right? So last up Vanderbilt at Van in Nashville. Uh.
- 44:09Speaker 2: I don't want to be the first to say this,
- 44:10Speaker 2: but I think Vanderbilt takes a step back. I don't
- 44:12Speaker 2: think I don't think it's Vanderbilt. It was a flash
- 44:15Speaker 2: in the bank.
- 44:16Speaker 1: That's I mean, that's that's where I'm at too, man Like.
- 44:22Speaker 1: It's it's hard to not I'm sorry, and I don't
- 44:25Speaker 1: mean this in a bad way, Actually I do. It's
- 44:28Speaker 1: hard to take Vanderbilt football serious. I'm sorry it is.
- 44:31Speaker 1: They had two good years with with Pavia uh and
- 44:36Speaker 1: dude just got cut by the fucking Ravers Ravens because
- 44:40Speaker 1: he couldn't see over the damn steering wheel on the
- 44:42Speaker 1: golf cart.
- 44:42Speaker 2: All right, No, no, he's gone. But he's gone. Is
- 44:48Speaker 2: Clark Lee? A? Is Clark Lee that good of a coach?
- 44:52Speaker 2: And b like, did they get enough momentum in one
- 44:57Speaker 2: or two good seasons of of an Aisle era not
- 45:02Speaker 2: really football to to justify like any any any sort
- 45:08Speaker 2: of hope.
- 45:09Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Now they didn't get that five star quarterback Jared Curtis.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but but he's gonna matter when you got
- 45:17Speaker 1: two and three stars around him that don't.
- 45:19Speaker 2: He's Yeah, he's gonna be the starter. They're gonna start
- 45:22Speaker 2: him day one, right and so bye week by day
- 45:30Speaker 2: you know, week thirteen? Is he gonna be Either he's
- 45:37Speaker 2: either he's a everything they say. Either he's the five
- 45:42Speaker 2: star that they say is or be.
- 45:46Speaker 1: We don't know, he's Jay Cutler. You know Jay Cutler
- 45:51Speaker 1: was pretty good too, but or okay, okay, okay, okay,
- 45:55Speaker 1: here we go. Either he's everything they say they are,
- 45:58Speaker 1: He's Jordan Rodgers. There you go, Okay, I feel like
- 46:03Speaker 1: that's that's that's fair.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Yeah, not saying that Jared Curtis isn't a good quarterback,
- 46:07Speaker 2: but as a true freshman, if he if he goes
- 46:10Speaker 2: down the gauntlet of the SEC, by the end of
- 46:12Speaker 2: the season, he's either that awesome. He's either a he's
- 46:18Speaker 2: either the a future number one overall draft pick, or
- 46:22Speaker 2: he's already had a bad freshman year.
- 46:26Speaker 1: That's either way. Either way, he's still But.
- 46:30Speaker 2: I think we I think we'd bet Bandy this year.
- 46:32Speaker 1: Uh yeah, I'm with you. So I think we both
- 46:35Speaker 1: got his finish in nine to three, and I think
- 46:38Speaker 1: we both feel like that could be optimistic. I think
- 46:41Speaker 1: ten and two's the ceiling.
- 46:43Speaker 2: Brother, I was very optimistic on that one.
- 46:46Speaker 1: I figured you were. I do think ten and two's
- 46:50Speaker 1: the ceiling. I think Arkansas is the game. That is
- 46:53Speaker 1: the difference between nine and three ten to two. I
- 46:56Speaker 1: also think that there's a real possible we start out
- 47:01Speaker 1: uh the SEC play four. I mean that's the way
- 47:05Speaker 1: it is.
- 47:06Speaker 2: We've got Yeah, I'm dude, I think not nine and
- 47:09Speaker 2: three is my ceiling. It's my floor. It's my floor.
- 47:13Speaker 2: To be happy with Josh Appel, but it's my ceiling.
- 47:17Speaker 2: As far as what I think we will finish. There
- 47:20Speaker 2: were there were, there were several wins there.
- 47:23Speaker 1: It's iffy. It's iffy both ways.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Several wins I gave us that I think are I
- 47:29Speaker 2: don't know. Auburn. I think I think we could lose.
- 47:33Speaker 2: I think we could lose.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Auburn South Carolina.
- 47:38Speaker 2: I think we could we could lose Bama. I'm not
- 47:41Speaker 2: picking it as a loss because, like you said, third
- 47:45Speaker 2: trade trip to Knoxville, let's go, let's get another one. Yeah,
- 47:48Speaker 2: I'm hungry for another win against Maama and Knoxville. But
- 47:54Speaker 2: we could very well be a loss.
- 47:57Speaker 1: Now all this say, all this to me though, and
- 48:01Speaker 1: I'm just gonna I'm gonna throw this out there. I
- 48:04Speaker 1: feel like this season has got twenty twenty two vibes.
- 48:07Speaker 1: I feel like twenty twenty two, if you go back
- 48:09Speaker 1: to it, we weren't expected to be as good as
- 48:12Speaker 1: we were. Everybody thought, well, you know, they could be
- 48:15Speaker 1: pretty good. I don't think anybody picked us to be
- 48:19Speaker 1: bad that season because we had so much coming back.
- 48:24Speaker 1: We had. We had a good quarterback coming back in
- 48:27Speaker 1: I think quarterback is the one spot this year that
- 48:30Speaker 1: everybody that and the defense is a unit. I think
- 48:34Speaker 1: those are the two spots that are that are keeping
- 48:38Speaker 1: everybody from being like, you know what, Tennessee could be
- 48:40Speaker 1: a fringe playoff team this year.
- 48:44Speaker 2: Well, that's the one spot that all eyes are on
- 48:48Speaker 2: the quarterback. Yeah, all eyes It goes for every team
- 48:53Speaker 2: that's ever existed. But what I'm what I mean is
- 48:58Speaker 2: we can't beat the ship out of Furman and think
- 49:05Speaker 2: whoever the quarterback is at that time is the guy. Yeah,
- 49:11Speaker 2: we'll we'll definitely see. We'll definitely see both against Furman.
- 49:15Speaker 1: I think we'll see both of Georgie through the first
- 49:17Speaker 1: three games.
- 49:17Speaker 2: Honestly, for Tech, we we well, what I'm saying is
- 49:22Speaker 2: what what we see through those first three games, we
- 49:24Speaker 2: cannot rely on. No, no, we can't rely on We
- 49:29Speaker 2: can't rely on anything until we see what happens against
- 49:32Speaker 2: Texas at home. Whichever whichever quarterback understand that for that
- 49:38Speaker 2: for for the first snap against Texas, that that's the
- 49:46Speaker 2: quarterback we need to that that's that, you know, that's
- 49:49Speaker 2: what we'll we'll see. We can't when when when Faizon
- 49:52Speaker 2: Brandon comes in against uh Kennesaw State and throws five
- 49:55Speaker 2: touchdowns in the second half. Yeah, we can't be like
- 50:00Speaker 2: Peyton Manning.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Yep. Uh huh right right, it's uh. I don't know, man,
- 50:08Speaker 1: it's it's gonna be fun this year. It's weird to
- 50:11Speaker 1: me that we don't have Florida and Georgia on the schedule.
- 50:14Speaker 2: It sucks. It sucks. I'm gonna talk about that for
- 50:19Speaker 2: a second. It sucks. I hate. I hate that those
- 50:23Speaker 2: teams are not on our schedule anymore. I really do.
- 50:26Speaker 2: It sucks the most because we lost to Georgia the
- 50:28Speaker 2: way we did. Yeah, the last time they were they
- 50:31Speaker 2: were a permanent opponent. Ah. We'll never hit that one back.
- 50:38Speaker 2: That that that goes up there with the one of
- 50:40Speaker 2: the most painful losses of my of my memory.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Yeah, because.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Possibly the most painful loss.
- 50:50Speaker 1: It was up there. It was up there.
- 50:53Speaker 2: But it sucks them.
- 50:57Speaker 1: I do think though, Bama is a must for us
- 51:00Speaker 1: this year because it's at home.
- 51:03Speaker 2: I gotta win this one.
- 51:05Speaker 1: I don't think that one's debatable. I think we need
- 51:08Speaker 1: to get Texas at home. But if we don't, we don't.
- 51:13Speaker 1: I would here here.
- 51:14Speaker 2: I don't think we do.
- 51:15Speaker 1: Here's one for you, though, are you taking beating Texas
- 51:19Speaker 1: at home or or kiffing it in Knoxville.
- 51:26Speaker 2: Like, if I had to pick one as a win, Yeah,
- 51:28Speaker 2: if you had to.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Pick one or the other, which one you dealing with?
- 51:33Speaker 1: I see, I would go with that because Texas and
- 51:35Speaker 1: and here's me thinking, like big picture, we can we
- 51:39Speaker 1: can afford an early year law, an early season lost
- 51:42Speaker 1: to Texas, that LSU game later on in the year,
- 51:46Speaker 1: depending on how we positioned ourselves, that could be the
- 51:49Speaker 1: difference in you know, okay, we're you know ten and two,
- 51:53Speaker 1: were we finished ten and two. To me, we finished
- 51:56Speaker 1: ten and two. That LSU game is one we take
- 52:00Speaker 1: because I remember it's late. Yeah, that's one's gonna matter. No,
- 52:05Speaker 1: I'm with you. That's what I'm saying is I'm with you.
- 52:09Speaker 2: I'm with it because like we're talking about the school
- 52:13Speaker 2: that just fired their coach and they got a new
- 52:15Speaker 2: coach versus a school that's where Sarcagian has been established.
- 52:20Speaker 2: At Texas, They've got they've got all this coming back
- 52:23Speaker 2: there there. I'm thinking more Texas is loaded.
- 52:29Speaker 1: I'm thinking, though, you know you hear all the time, well,
- 52:31Speaker 1: Texas is the real yout you know, warned it down well,
- 52:34Speaker 1: that's not true at all. No, it's not, it's not.
- 52:36Speaker 1: But you know that's that's one. That's one like to me,
- 52:39Speaker 1: that's a bragging rights game. That's not a that doesn't
- 52:42Speaker 1: that doesn't make or breaker season.
- 52:44Speaker 2: You know, well, no, those see those bragging white those
- 52:48Speaker 2: bragging rights happened three hundred years ago. Uh you T,
- 52:53Speaker 2: Tennessee is the real you T?
- 52:55Speaker 1: That's right.
- 52:56Speaker 2: It doesn't matter what happens in that in that game.
- 52:59Speaker 2: But they are better football team than us, right right,
- 53:02Speaker 2: and they have a better coach than us. I won't
- 53:05Speaker 2: I won't even say arguably a better coach. They have
- 53:08Speaker 2: the better coach.
- 53:10Speaker 1: Really you think so? I mean he's proved, he's proved
- 53:12Speaker 1: a lot though, Like yes, you know, okay, that'd.
- 53:15Speaker 2: Be so that would be interesting. How many coaches are
- 53:18Speaker 2: we gonna line up head to head this year and
- 53:21Speaker 2: say Haipple is the better coach.
- 53:25Speaker 1: I think there's only Sark two on the scale. I
- 53:31Speaker 1: think those are your two.
- 53:34Speaker 2: I'm not convinced the Board is not a better coach.
- 53:37Speaker 1: I don't think he is. And it ain't because of
- 53:41Speaker 1: where he's at. It's not because of where he's at.
- 53:45Speaker 1: Aipples two and one against him.
- 53:48Speaker 2: I'm not convinced Galish isn't a better coach.
- 53:52Speaker 1: We'll find out a lot in that one. We're gonna
- 53:56Speaker 1: learn a lot that game, whether we want to learn
- 53:59Speaker 1: it or not. It's gonna be like that movie bird
- 54:01Speaker 1: Box where they're like, you know what I'm saying, We're
- 54:05Speaker 1: gonna learn a lot that game.
- 54:06Speaker 2: But we've not had that sense of dominance really since
- 54:11Speaker 2: Golish left.
- 54:13Speaker 1: We've not. We've not. Man, It's just it's gonna be
- 54:19Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be a fun year though, whether
- 54:21Speaker 1: we win, loser, draw, I think it's gonna be a
- 54:23Speaker 1: fun year. Now.
- 54:25Speaker 2: I'm just kidding.
- 54:28Speaker 1: Oh uh yeah uh. Anyway, they still might beat us,
- 54:37Speaker 1: but you're right, you're right.
- 54:39Speaker 2: So imagine being a South Carolina fan.
- 54:43Speaker 1: And screaming go Cocks. I know, I cook.
- 54:45Speaker 2: It's gay just being stuck with Shane Beemer as the
- 54:49Speaker 2: coaching Oh it is like he's gonna he's gonna win
- 54:54Speaker 2: enough to stay at South Carolina.
- 54:56Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Like that's that. That's the that's the standard
- 54:58Speaker 1: of you never getting rid of it. That is the
- 55:00Speaker 1: most meaty ocre football program in the country. Literally, they
- 55:07Speaker 1: have like a five hundred record, one way or the other.
- 55:10Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 55:12Speaker 2: Yeah, So AnyWho, uh steves ten years to make anything
- 55:18Speaker 2: out of that program.
- 55:19Speaker 1: It did, it did, and all for Shane Bieber and
- 55:24Speaker 1: will must championship on it.
- 55:28Speaker 2: I'd rather have God. I couldn't imagine being stuck with
- 55:32Speaker 2: much champ either, but out of way, the point being God,
- 55:36Speaker 2: that must.
- 55:37Speaker 1: That much suck. It sucks. So final thoughts on the season.
- 55:43Speaker 1: I think you and I are both kind of We're
- 55:45Speaker 1: on the same We're on the same mindset this year.
- 55:48Speaker 1: I'm taking however you're you're you're saying you're optimistic, and
- 55:52Speaker 1: I'm taking more of a optimist approach, so approach. So
- 55:58Speaker 1: I think that's uh. And we've got the same record.
- 56:02Speaker 2: Mm hmmm, we've got the same records.
- 56:05Speaker 1: Twelve and oh because I know better.
- 56:07Speaker 2: My record to my my record's off to Moss's. I
- 56:12Speaker 2: don't mind. I don't think that five five wins is
- 56:17Speaker 2: probably off the table. I don't think six wins is
- 56:21Speaker 2: off the table. A six and six record, I don't
- 56:24Speaker 2: think it's off the table at all.
- 56:26Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't think there's a world with
- 56:30Speaker 1: this schedule. I'm tough, but there's not six teams on
- 56:34Speaker 1: this schedule. I think that beat us. We got the first.
- 56:41Speaker 1: I think we're better than South Carolina. We're better than Kentucky,
- 56:45Speaker 1: We're better than Manby. Those are those are my six.
- 56:48Speaker 1: If I had to pick six guaranteed wins out of
- 56:53Speaker 1: this schedule, and I'm not guaranteeing of myself, if I
- 56:56Speaker 1: had to pick six, those are my six.
- 57:00Speaker 2: I would agree. I would agree with those that were
- 57:04Speaker 2: absolutely better than Do you think we lose to a
- 57:07Speaker 2: team that we're not better than?
- 57:10Speaker 1: Yeah, we gotta go. We got to go on the
- 57:12Speaker 1: road to one of them. That's South Carolina. That's that's
- 57:16Speaker 1: one that I think we could lose. That I really
- 57:19Speaker 1: think we'd lose.
- 57:20Speaker 2: So you're in the teams, do you think we're better
- 57:23Speaker 2: than we're five and one? Yeah, five and one, potentially
- 57:28Speaker 2: six and O five and one potentially six and right
- 57:32Speaker 2: the teams that we probably aren't better than.
- 57:36Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, I mean with the exception of Arkansas. Let's say,
- 57:41Speaker 1: let's say with the.
- 57:41Speaker 2: Exception of that team, yeah, man, yeah, see, so you
- 57:47Speaker 2: feel the same way about Arkansas that I do about
- 57:50Speaker 2: South Carolina. And I actually I don't even know if
- 57:54Speaker 2: I've seen us win at Arkansas. Uh, to be confident
- 57:58Speaker 2: and winning that game, I just don't, just more so
- 58:03Speaker 2: it's Arkansas.
- 58:05Speaker 1: When we get into the season preview and we start
- 58:07Speaker 1: breaking down these games, I go through series history, We'll
- 58:10Speaker 1: we'll talk about that. We'll talk about that, because it's
- 58:13Speaker 1: been it's been a hot minute since we won in Fayetteville. Okay, So.
- 58:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I think six and six is well on the
- 58:27Speaker 2: table for us.
- 58:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I think six and six is well. I
- 58:30Speaker 1: think I think six and six is. I think ten
- 58:33Speaker 1: and two is. I think six and six is more likely.
- 58:36Speaker 1: I don't think ten and two is the only two
- 58:38Speaker 1: games that I could see us ropping for sure if
- 58:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna go, if I'm picking ten and two and
- 58:44Speaker 1: I'm like, all right, I'm gonna let them hang. The
- 58:47Speaker 1: only two I could see us dropping for sure Texas
- 58:50Speaker 1: and LSU. I think we've got a better offense than Texas.
- 58:55Speaker 1: A and M has a defense. BAMA comes to Knoxville.
- 59:00Speaker 1: I think we're better than South Carolina. I think we
- 59:03Speaker 1: do something where probably a lot of people will say, well,
- 59:06Speaker 1: you're not supposed to go to Arkansas and win because
- 59:08Speaker 1: of how things have been. I think that's when we get.
- 59:13Speaker 1: The rest of them are games we should win. I mean,
- 59:15Speaker 1: that's just my thought. But I'm not saying that's gonna happen.
- 59:18Speaker 2: I'm saying if it, well, if we were ten and
- 59:22Speaker 2: two at the end of the season, I would say
- 59:26Speaker 2: those are probably the two teams two games we lost. Yeah,
- 59:29Speaker 2: Texas and LSU.
- 59:33Speaker 1: I could I could see that, Yeah, yeah, because they're
- 59:37Speaker 1: both at home.
- 59:38Speaker 2: I don't. I don't think ten and two's on the
- 59:40Speaker 2: table for us. I really don't.
- 59:43Speaker 1: I really I think I think by the time Texas
- 59:46Speaker 1: leaves Neland about five pm on a Saturday, on that Saturday,
- 59:52Speaker 1: will know what we'll know what to expect the rest
- 59:55Speaker 1: of the way.
