- 0:01Good morning and a warm welcome to your show,
- 0:05Sunny Mornings in Boston. I'm your host, Melissa,
- 0:09and it's Tuesday, September 15th. You'll be interested
- 0:13to know. 191 years ago, today, in 1835, Charles
- 0:21Darwin arrived at the Galapagos Islands, studying
- 0:24unique species and noting variations that later
- 0:27helped shape his theory of natural selection.
- 0:30So today, take a longer walk to observe nature
- 0:33closely. So now you know. And now, it's time
- 0:40for the weather report. This morning it's sunny
- 0:45and it feels like 56 degrees with 5 mile per
- 0:49hour wind. The sunset will take place at 6 .51
- 0:53and it will rise again tomorrow at 6 .25. It
- 0:57looks like we're in for a sunny day with temperatures
- 1:00reaching around 68, accompanied by a light northeast
- 1:04breeze around 7 miles per hour. If you're inland,
- 1:08it will hit a high of 69 tonight. Expect mostly
- 1:13clear skies with a low of 53 and a calm south
- 1:17wind around 6 miles per hour. The nearshore gooey
- 1:21at Cape Cod Bay reads 66 degrees for the water
- 1:25temperature. Looking ahead in the weather. Wednesday
- 1:31will be sunny with a high near 78 and a light
- 1:34southwest breeze. A slight chance of evening
- 1:37showers and thunderstorms moves in Thursday night

- 1:43and highs dropping into the low 70s. Then a chance

- 2:27Sunny mornings send you. In local news, as Bruins
- 2:32training camp kicks off this week, one of the
- 2:35key questions is whether Boston will name a captain
- 2:37for the 2026 to 27 season. Since the Bruins traded
- 2:43Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers on March
- 2:467, 2025, the team has not had a captain. with
- 2:50David Pasternak and Charlie McAvoy leading the
- 2:53way. McAvoy emphasized that there is no friction
- 2:57between him and Pasternak regarding the captaincy,
- 3:01highlighting their mutual respect and collaboration
- 3:03as they navigate leadership together. Bruins
- 3:07head Marco Sturm indicated that discussions about
- 3:10the captaincy are ongoing, and a decision is
- 3:13expected before the season starts. Now on to
- 3:21sports. Last night on Monday Night Football,
- 3:25the Kansas City Chiefs dominated the Denver Broncos
- 3:28in a statement performance that began their push
- 3:31to reclaim AFC West control after missing the
- 3:35playoffs entirely in 2025. Patrick Mahomes set
- 3:40the tone early with a 15 -yard rushing touchdown
- 3:42in the red zone, then found Kenneth Walker on
- 3:45a shovel pass for Walker's second score in the
- 3:48second half. Kansas City's defense was equally
- 3:52dominant. Rookie cornerback Mansour DeLayne picked
- 3:56off Bo Nix on Denver's opening drive. The Broncos
- 4:01offense looked disjointed throughout. Nix went
- 4:0517 of 28 for 131 yards with one touchdown and
- 4:10one interception, but the real damage came on
- 4:12the ground. Three fumbles, one lost. With offensive
- 4:17coordinator Davis Webb, Taking over play calling
- 4:20from Sean Payton, Denver couldn't establish any
- 4:24rhythm against the Kansas City onslaught. For
- 4:28the defending AFC West champions, it raised immediate
- 4:31questions about whether they could maintain their
- 4:33window of contention after last season's division
- 4:36title. In local sports, the Red Sox are riding
- 4:41momentum heading to Texas tonight. They have
- 4:45won their last two against Kansas City, including
- 4:48a 4 -1 victory Sunday, and they are 7 -3 over
- 4:52their last ten. Patrick Sandoval takes the mound
- 4:56at 8 -5 against the Rangers' Cody Bradford in
- 4:59game one of a three -game set. At 82 -68, Boston
- 5:04is still in the hunt, and every series matters
- 5:07down the stretch. Sandoval has been sharp lately,
- 5:12and he will need to be against a Rangers lineup
- 5:14that is dangerous at home. The Rangers are fighting
- 5:18for position too, so expect a competitive matchup.
- 5:22Meanwhile, the Celtics made a move in the backcourt.
- 5:26Boston signed Devin Carter to an Exhibit 10 contract
- 5:29Monday after he was waived by Atlanta. The West
- 5:34Palm Beach native and 13th overall pick from
- 5:372024 gets a shot at Boston's final roster spot
- 5:41and its two -way opening during training camp.
- 5:45Carter has had a rough start to his NBA career,
- 5:49shoulder surgery, ankle injuries, back and calf
- 5:52issues, but he has got defensive upside and a
- 5:56homecoming angle with ties to Providence College.
- 6:00For the Celtics, it is at no risk look at a young
- 6:03player with potential. In top news, today we
- 6:09begin a three -part series about a major change
- 6:12happening in the Pacific Ocean. and what it could
- 6:15mean for Southern California this fall and winter.
- 6:19A massive ocean phenomenon called a Kelvin wave
- 6:22is traveling north along Mexico toward California.
- 6:26But despite the name, this isn't a giant breaking
- 6:29wave. A Kelvin wave is an enormous movement of
- 6:33warm water that can travel thousands of miles
- 6:36along the coastline, temporarily raising sea
- 6:39levels as it passes. This one is connected to
- 6:42the rapidly strengthening El Nino in the Pacific.
- 6:47Scientists expect it to travel around the Gulf
- 6:49of California, then continue north along Baja
- 6:52towards San Diego, and eventually farther up
- 6:55the California coast. And here's why we're paying
- 6:59attention. Researchers say the Kelvin wave could
- 7:02temporarily raise sea levels along parts of California
- 7:05by around a foot. That doesn't create dangerous
- 7:09surf by itself. Instead, think of it as raising
- 7:12the floor underneath everything else. High tides
- 7:16and large ocean swells then begin from a higher
- 7:19starting point, potentially allowing water and
- 7:22waves to reach farther inland. That's particularly
- 7:26noteworthy after the damaging hurricane swell
- 7:29Southern California just experienced. Tomorrow,
- 7:33we'll explain where this enormous Kelvin wave
- 7:35came from. and its connection to what could become
- 7:38a historic El Nino. In business news, CrowdStrike
- 7:45and Palo Alto networks lead software stocks to
- 7:48a never -before -seen feat. The software sector
- 7:51outperformed the chip sector to a historic degree
- 7:55in the face of escalating artificial intelligence
- 7:58fears. Cybersecurity stocks were the top performers
- 8:02in the Standard & Poor's 500 on Monday, showcasing
- 8:06how the technology trade has become starkly divided
- 8:09amid escalating warnings about artificial intelligence.
- 8:13Over the weekend, Anthropic Chief Executive Officer
- 8:16Dario Amadei outlined his concerns about the
- 8:19accelerating speed of artificial intelligence
- 8:22development, warning that models could soon become
- 8:25so powerful that they might spur legions of bots
- 8:28to take over the entire internet. In crypto movement,
- 8:33Bitcoin is unchanged at about $78 ,000. Ethereum
- 8:39is down half a percent to about $2 ,000. And
- 8:44XRP is up 3 % to $1 .41. Moving on to a more

- 9:34now, back to the show. Let's talk tech. OpenAI
- 9:40has acquired smartphone camera maker Glass Imaging
- 9:43in a deal valued at over $300 million, according
- 9:47to a report from the Wall Street Journal. Founded
- 9:51in 2019 and based in Los Altos, California, Glass
- 9:55Imaging previously raised about $30 million in
- 9:59funding from investors. The company was established
- 10:03by Ziv Attar and Tom Bishop, former Apple engineers
- 10:06who developed Apple's portrait mode. Glass imaging
- 10:10employs artificial intelligence to enhance smartphone
- 10:13photography, learning about individual camera
- 10:16systems for improved images. OpenAI has not responded
- 10:21to requests for comment regarding this acquisition.
- 10:27And in entertainment news... The Emmy Awards
- 10:30celebrated a remarkable year for television,
- 10:34with The Pit winning the title of Outstanding
- 10:36Drama Series for the second consecutive year.

- 11:13righty, folks, it's time for the quote of the
- 11:15day. And today, our quote comes from the American
- 11:20writer and philosopher, Henry Adams. And he said,
- 11:24The progress of evolution from President Washington
- 11:27to President Grant was a lone evidence enough
- 11:30to upset Darwin. And that's a wrap for this morning.
